Thanksgiving Day Open Thread

By

"My giblets!"

The three of us are out with our family doing the whole Turkey Day thing, and hopefully you are too. Use this thread to talk about whatever you want during the day before and after the big meal. The Packers and Lions are on at 12:30 ET, the Raiders and Cowboys at 4:15pm ET, and then the G-Men and Broncos at 8:20pm ET. What are you thankful for? I’ll start…

I’m thankful for being a Yankee fan.

The Blue Jays signed alex gonzalez.

    Oh, nevermind, it’s Alex Gonzalez….phew.

    • Evil Empire says:

One less option for Boston, and one more reason why they may give up a first round pick for Marco Scutaro.

      • Evil Empire says:

…except the Blue Jays might not offer arb to Scutaro in the first place now that they have Gonzalez and that other schmuck.

        Oh well.

        • Salty Buggah says:

No, I think they still offer it. If he accepts, which he won’t I think, considering he’s coming off a career year and will want to cash in, they can easily trade him for something decent.

So my sister comes home from college, I pick her up at Newark (what a mess that was), we come home. Sounds normal so far. I then see one of our cats (not the one that wears a diaper) eat another’s poop out of the litter box (I’m hoping it wasn’t their own). The cat then greets my sister and licks her all over.

Is it wrong of me not to tell her?

    • RobC says:

if she is pregnant you should definately tell her
Pregnant women should not be around cat feces.

    • ColoYank says:

Yes, Overshare, it was wrong, but I wouldn’t have, either. I’m thankful that I didn’t have to make the choice!

    • Steve H says:

Don’t tell her, what’s she gonna do now anyway? After all that the cats mouth is still probably cleaner than a humans (especially pat…..and you).

You should train all of the cats to eat the poop, you’ll never have to clean the litterbox again.

Obscure reference: Police Academy (1 or 2) when Bunky the cat took a shit in the guys cereal.

  3. Andy in Sunny Daytona says:

I’m thankful for Melvin Croussett, RAB and jalapeno cornbread.

Happy El Festival de la Masacre de Turquía, to everyone!!!

  4. JMK aka The Overshare says:

Ohhh, and one more question. I pondered this while watching Sportscenter yesterday, where they showed a highlight of some 23-foot tall woman dunking a basketball.

If a female basketball player dunks on the court and no one is around to see it, does it raise awareness of breast cancer?

  5. Riddering says:

I am thankful that the Yankees made it so worthwhile for dragging me back into being an every day/every game baseball fan this year.

Oh, and for family, health, shelter, food, employment, and RAB.

    • ColoYank says:

      Well said, Riddering.

I have never spent a day of my adult life not following the Yanks every game, every day.

And that covers a LOT of years, I readily admit.

      Happy Turkey/Pigskin Day!

  6. RobC says:

I’m thankful the good Lord sent me a beautiful wife who gave me 2 wonderful sons, that she gave them her good looks and great throwing arm and I am thankful my oldest son made me a Yankee fan.
I had been a Phillies fan until 03.

Jorge Posada, C, Yankees. Signed to four-year, $52.4 million contract prior to 2008. The Yankees don’t like saying goodbye but when a catcher is on the backside of 30, caution is advised. There’s only so much wear and tear the body can take. In two years since signing the deal, he has started 130 games behind the plate. Posada can still produce offensively, but because of his limited catching time he has to get some time at DH, which is why it’s hard for the Yankees to try and re-sign both Johnny Damon and Hideki Matsui.

Yep I’m sure the Yankees are dying that Jorge is still on the team.

    • Steve H says:

That’s asinine. Sign Posada in 2008, he’s a key guy in winning a title in 2009. Big regret/blunder.

What’s even worse is the guys he’s lumped in with in this article, Zito/Bradley/Willis/Silva, etc. Unreal.

Speaking of this list, any reason to think we could bring in Carlos Lee cheap prospect wise (and maybe with some $ thrown in)? He’d be a good DH, scared by the 3 years/$50+ million left, but a good RH bat and would easily fill the DH spot. If it were 2 years left I’d be very interested and potentially have the DH spot open for Montero in 2012 (if he can’t cut it as a C or LF/RF)

    • Steve H says:

      Even worse is this line.

And the Dodgers are a better team with Juan Pierre, who signed a 5-year, $44 million deal before the 2007 season, in left field.

  9. Steve H says:

Nick Swisher isn’t happy for Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving is happy for Nick Swisher.

  10. Keanu Reeves says:

Now that I feel sufficiently fat…I’ll settle on the couch for the rest of the day.

    Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

  11. Dog says:

Interesting photo choice..I am thankful that we only have 3.25 years left of our current turkey president… Love watching his approval numbers drop by the day.

  12. Salty Buggah says:

I just woke up at almost 1. I couldn’t sleep all night because of my damn upper back pain. It’s been hurting for 2 days now and I can’t move, lay down, or breathe without a lot of pain. This sucks

Hope everyone is having a great Thanksgiving.

  13. Keanu Reeves says:

Something interesting that Olney had in his blog today:

Given his (Kevin Towers) longtime friendship with Yankees general manager Brian Cashman, it figures that he will wind up working for the defending champions.

I would really love to see this happen.

    • Evil Empire says:

I read that too and was equally pleased. Towers is a smart and respected man, the Yankees would be fortunate to throw him into their think-tank.

  14. Salty Buggah says:

    Happy Thanksgiving Yankees Fans

I am thankful for Papelbon single handedly ending the Red Sox season.

  16. Rockdog says:

Happy Thanksgiving all. I am thankful for RAB, which is a daily read for me — just lots of great, great stuff on my beloved Yankees. I am also tahnkful to have seen the Yankees in 11 World Series, with 7 championships since I became a fan in 1976.
