Oh, and there was no decree that Phil had to be perfect to finish the game. Bringing in Mo was Joe’s call, not Phil’s. I’m sure he would have been happy to, and capable of, finishing the game.

If that’s your criteria for failure, then yes he failed and I hope you never coach Little League. Why so many people are worked up about Mariano throwing 5 pitches in a World Series game is baffling to me, but hey, you’re entitled.
