Mets asked for Matsui’s medicals

Power meetings begin in Tampa
Breaking News: Chapman is a risk

NPB Tracker passes along a report (translated article) that says the Mets have asked agent Arn Tellem for the medical reports on Hideki Matsui‘s knees. We’ve already seen some speculation that the Mets could bring Godzilla to Flushing, possibly to play first base.  Despite his fantastic year with the stick, Matsui is a man without many options. There are more available DH’s than DH spots (like every winter), so Homer-deki needs all the leverage he can get, even though he’s going to use it against the Yankees.

Are the Mets trying to convert Citifield into a research hospital? They don’t need another injured player, which is what Matsui would become if he played a position.

Wow, this is the closest I’ve ever seen anyone come to explaining Omar Minaya’s personnel moves.

    • Eric Solomon

      LOL’d

  • A.D.

This would be a great idea for the Mets, and by great I mean terrible, a team coming off a injury riddled year doesn’t need to sign more oft injured players to try and play positions they shouldn’t be at.

Knowing the Mets, they were probably asking for the medicals on KAZ Matsui’s knees.

(Actually, knowing the Mets, they were probably asking for Hideki’s medicals, but if Tellem gave them Kaz’s instead, they’d never know until it was too late and they’d give Hideki a 3yr/30M deal to play 2B.)

  • Crazy Eyes Killa

    hahahaaa

    1) he can’t play the field
    2) he’s not Spanish

It feels great having nothing to do at work for a change, I’m all over RAB today

Don’t the Mets do this every time?

They’re always interested in ex-Yankees we still have interest in bringing back. We went through a more serious episode during Posada’s free agency a few years back…

There were stories for Arod, Rivera, Bernie Williams, etc.

    • Mattingly’s Love Child

Well if Matsui’s agent thinks this will drive up the price with the Yankees, he’s got another thing coming!

I can’t think of anything dumber than the Mets signing Matsui to play 1st base, except maybe someone signing Placido Polanco to play 3rd for 3 years….oh wait, that happened, shit, sorry Phillies!

      • king of fruitless hypotheticals

        signing sheffield to play anything?

    • Jeremy

And yet they end up with Andy Phillips.

    • Rose

Well in their defense…they have an advantage that the player was/is already in New York and has a condo or whatever and the transition is much easier…but still…you ain’t got no alibi, you ugly!

    • A.D.

Yup and they always parade out how player x “Knows how to play in NY” thus its a good fit.

      • jsbrendog

playing in ny? flushign is like playing in that part of ny that isnt really upstate but when you mention it to anyone from the city theyre like, oh upstate

Who in the blue hell thinks flushing is upstate?

          • jsbrendog

no one. you missed the point. people in ny could care less about the mets. that was the point. the forgotten team. like how everyone form the city thinks putnam county is upstate.

like how everyone form the city thinks putnam county is upstate.

              Putnam County = upstate

              Book it.

  • ColoYank

As a native of upstate, I consider anything north of the imaginary line connecting the northern boundaries of Westchester and Rockland Counties as being upstate. You could also look to the Bureau of Labor Statistics for a definition (don’t know if you’ll find one, actually).

Most New Yorkers consider Flushing part of Long Island, in a way that Brooklyn definitely is not.

    • radnom

      You are insane.

Upstate is anything north of Albany.

      • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

        I disagree.

Anything between the top of the Bronx and White Plains is “Westchester”.

Anything between White Plains and Albany is “upstate”.

Anything north of Albany is fucking Siberia.

Syracuse and Buffalo may as well be on Mars.

Are you saying that you’ve never thought about one day packing up the family and heading to Wellsville for a long weekend?

            I know lots of things.

I do not know where “Wellsville” is.

            • Rose

Where did you go to school if you don’t mind me asking? You certainly do know lots of things…I’ll give you that.

I hear ya. I’m working full time and going to grad school at night (and every other Saturday’s) at Rensselaer right now…I could think of a million other things I’d rather be doing…like falling down a flight of stairs…or impaling myself on a picket fence…

        • ColoYank

Actually, yes. The Downstate, or Tri-State area, is really very geographically and demographically isolated, a unique, and deservedly so, area in the world. The rest of New York State can’t keep up with it, compete with it, or outvote it.

          • Rose

            or outvote it

Sure they can…but either way…nobody under the age of 60 votes on much of anything other than important elections. The banning of smoking indoors was mainly voted upon by retirees with severe breathing problems or other people not working due to being ill.

            • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

The banning of smoking indoors was mainly voted upon by retirees with severe breathing problems or other people not working due to being ill.

Almost all smoking bans have been enacted by state legislatures or city councils, including the ones in NYC and NYS. Many smoking bans were never put to public referendums.

Those legislative bodies are not “retirees with severe breathing problems or people not working due to being ill”. They’re 40-60 year olds, for the most part, and healthy. Furthermore, the lobbying organizations behind those bans do contain some seniors groups, but for the most part are environmental organizations staffed and run by 30-somethings.

              /tiny nitpick’d

              • Rose

Agreed…let me rephrase then. While there are clearly some current health organizations lobbying for better health situations…a lot of which is started by civilians. And younger people don’t really care about it (for the most part)…especially when compared to the old grumbling people who have nothing better to do than complain. I don’t smoke, and to be honest, I love the fact that there isn’t smoking in MOST places…but I feel if a dive bar wants to enable smoking…certain establishments should be able to do so. Don’t go to a dive bar at 2am for a beer if you don’t feel like inhaling smoke. Don’t cry to the government to change everything around you because you’re too lazy to make simple changes.

Anyway, enough with the rant. Sorry. I went on a tangent there…I apologize haha.

            Agreed.

I wouldn’t mind Hideki going to the Mets. After the Yankees I watch more Mets games than anything else. That way I could still watch him, but if he fell apart it wouldn’t hurt the Yankees.

Leave it to the Mets to think Matsui could play first base, or the outfield for that matter. They are running some team over there. Here is to thanking the man upstairs my father was Yankee fan. Unfortunately he also stigmatized me as a Jet fan. In Sanchez and Ryan I trust?

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

Unfortunately he also stigmatized me as a Jet fan. In Sanchez and Ryan I trust?

      Why wouldn’t you trust them?

Sure, they’ve both made some rookie mistakes… they’re rookies. They’ve both also shown amazing promise and potential, not to mention talent and smarts.

      The future is bright.

      • Mike HC

I hope so. I like Ryan. But he is dyslexic. I really don’t mean to offend anyone, but can that really be non factor when it comes to coaching? I don’t know. I guess it does not matter, but after I read that, it keeps popping into my head.

And Sanchez, to me, has become a running joke in the pocket. I hope he improves and he should improve, but it is straight ugly watching him play. All I can do is laugh half the time. Such is life as a Jets fan though. Glad to see at least one Jet fan in this world thinks the glass is half full.

We still could have had Favre under contract. We cut him.

        • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

I’d rather have Mark Sanchez than Brett Favre every day of the week and twice on Sunday. I don’t regret that gambit in the least.

Favre is better than Sanchez NOW, yes.

He won’t be better than him for long. Brett’s at the end of the rope. We have our QB for the next 10 years now. Good shit.

          • Mike HC

Favre will probably be better than Sanchez even when he is 50.

But I do appreciate the faith you have in the team. You are a better fan than I. Or at least a more optimistic one.

  • Bo

Talk about a team doing it on the cheap.

There are 2 all star power hitting lf’s out there for free and they want the guy who cant play the field anymore.
