So obviously he's not totally inept if they keep asking him to come back. I should have said: "they'd probably have made it, too." Dawson made it because not only was he an electric talent, but he also didn't fall off the face of the earth like those guys. He was good for a looongg time. He excelled at what was at the time perceived to be "everything" - hitting, hitting for power, running, fielding, throwing. He didn't excel at walking, but it's hard to compare the standards of a much more sabermetrically-inclined era to one wherein things like OBP were not considered a priority. sorry i wasn’t more clear.
