A-Rod’s 500th home run ball sells for $103,579

By

One day, maybe I’ll have this kind of money to spend on a baseball. Alex Rodriguez‘s 500th home run sold in an anonymous online auction last night for $103,579. I’m wondering the same thing as Big League Stew’s Kevin Kaduk: did A-Rod himself buy the ball? He earned $28.5 million that year, $27 million in salary and a $1.5 million bonus for winning his third MVP award under the old contract. The ball would have cost him four-tenths of a percent of his salary that season. At that point, why not?

My wife and I went to four games that week, trying to see him hit that homerun. We were there for the game where the Yankees hit EIGHT homeruns, but A-Rod did not hit one of them. He ends up hitting 500 on the first pitch he saw the next day…but we were in the car driving to her parents. First pitch.

Dems the breaks. You just can’t predict baseball.

He’s at 583, so he’s only 17 away from entering a much more tony neighborhood, although with Sosa on the same street, it’s not as exclusive as it once was. Perhaps 600 HRs is the new 500.
