Alls i gotta say is wow. So many people(Yankee fans) are crying over Damons departure. They dont know how spoiled they are. Off the top of my head heres there lineup:
SS Jeter
DH Johnson
1B Teixeira
3B A-Rod
2B Cano
C Posada
CF Granderson
RF Swisher
LF Winn
Some fans would kill for this kinda of powerhouese in that stadium.
Sure ill admit Cashman didnt hav the offseason he had last year but seriously ur(yankee fans) going to be uspet with this lineup. And i bet next year they'll explode again in the market, despite the age of some guys, i expect them to be good, they have an all star almaost everywhere

I agree. This offseason for the yanks was not what i expected, this guys not an idiot just a little dramatic on the fact that the yankees kinda screwed up. Yes they should have brought back matsui, yes at their own price, but Nick Johnson? Cmon. And the randy Winn thing dosent make me all that happy either.

Sad to say but the ship has sailed.

Does anyone think that if the Yankees wanted him he wouldnt have been signed?

Cashman obviously didnt want him for whatever reason. We're just going to pay the price for that during the season.

Why is it so much to ask that Gardner become merely average? Why is it so hard for Granderson to revert back to 07 form in his late 20's? Or so hard for a DH to stay healthy? And why is it so obvious that Damon and Matsui will totally give you 2010 production as they approach 36 -37 years old? Where were you when Matsui battled knee injury all season and Damon made every play in OF an unnecessary adventure? Stop being seduced by lefthanded power numbers from that bandbox in the Bronx. Your heroes are old and next year their somebody else's problem.

Not one good conspiracy theory the whole thread??? What would be the best way to gain maximum leverage on Johnny Damon? Well fill up the roster and spend all the money. Now Cash has him just where he wants him. This was his plan all along. He has a side deal for Gardner with someone for something valuable (young outfielder maybe, could add any of Gaudin, Ramirez, Pena, Russo, Corona to sweeten deal) all set to go. Golson was picked up to replace Gardner (I know he is not as good but for a pinch runner/ defensive replacement he'll do fine). All the knashing of teeth over Winn was because he might be the 3rd outfielder (warranted). But Cash knew all along he was going to just a 4th outfielder which is right in his wheelhouse. Winn comes in every night after Johnny's 3rd or 4th at bat and he isn't terrible with the stick if he comes up to the plate.

I'm not suggesting this is what I'd do but I think sll signs point to an ingenious Cash plan.

I'll take Winn's 2010 over Dye's 2010. And I'm not at all excited about Winn's 2010.

Any news on where Damon's going and for how much. If he goes too cheap it's going to make the Winn signing look really stupid and a waste of $2m that could have been used for Damon. I don't understand the Winn signing when Cashman kept bloviating on and on about a righthanded bat when Winn set the poorest right handed batting numbers since 1954.

Couldn't agree with you more, the Yankees will have to be very involved at the trade deadline or sooner, should have just signed Damon and wasting $2m on Winn was absurd.
