Open Thread: Yet another YouTube video
ByHere’s your open thread for the evening. The Islanders already won, but the Devils still have to play. The NBA Skills Competition is on tonight, as are the Olympics. Anything goes, so have fun.

I’m so ready for baseball.
I finally went and bought the Bill James baseball abstract today. I feel accomplished.
Also, gift cards are the greatest thing ever.
So the http://www.yankees.lhblogs.com isn’t good enough for you anymore? TRAITOR!!
Cool Yankees video.
No offense but some of the LoHud comments can get very aggravating.
I have come to totally hate lohud.
Nice clip from the official DVD.
Can.not.wait.till.baseball
1. I was out to dinner before and I saw someone with a hat that said SBGL (not sure if that’s the order people prefer but that’s what the hat said) and I laughed.
2. My mom watched the Mike Cameron 4 HRs game that was on MLB Network today (from 2002!!!), which means that a. I had to listen to the Mariners announcer, who is the WORST and b. now she’s babbling on about how Mike Cameron is “the difference-maker” and how much better the Red Sox are than the Yankees now. Because of JUST Mike Cameron.
3. I am now nervous to do the /’d in a post since there are so many rules.
4. John Henry’s Twitter should be on that meme list. Curse of MT indeed.
Also, this video reminds me that I tried to watch “The 2001 World Series: Destiny in the Desert” the other day, and I got oh, about four minutes in, and they had John Sterling yelling “The Yankees are THREE OUTS AWAY from their fourth World Series in a row!!!”, and then I had to shut it off because I knew it would just make me all upset.
Oh I feel ya there. Eight and a half years later and I can’t make myself watch it. Just can’t do it.
I’m still angry at Michael Kay for that awful Mt. Olympus comment
Nice little article about Montero. It talks about his working hard on his defense and other stuff. Good read.
http://www.nydailynews.com/spo.....8Sports%29
Everytime I read something on Montero improving his defense, I get more and more excited for him.
This is bullshit. We know Montero will never work as hard as Matt Wieters.
You know it’s funny, there are Yankees fans who are just finding out who he is. I love following the minors.
Yea, I’ve noticed on twitter. People who read blogs like us have liked from the beginning.
I just started following it last ST(due to the hype surrounding AJax) and it makes baseball ten times more amazing.
Thank for the link. I also am excited every time i hear he is working on his D, though it seems like it is at least mentioned once a week. But that means he is getting closer and closer to the Bronx, right?
I can see why he’s wearing a ski cap. It’s cold down here. It’s colder in Daytona Beach right now than it is at the Olympics. Crazy ass weather.

I’m not used to this crap. I have no idea how you all do this every year.
The trick is sweaters. And scarves. And hats. And layers. It’s a real pain in the ass to walk around with 10 pounds of clothing on.
My advisor in grad school used to bike to work year round — in New Hampshire. He had an entire neoprene bodysuit, including a faceguard like Ninja Cano has.
Simple, booze.
It isn’t to bad here in SW Fl, but they maybe cause im use to my BX weather.
My favorite part:
“Montero always wanted to sign with the Yankees. Asked what other teams got close to inking him, he says, “Second was the Mets. Boston, the Indians. But I liked the Yankees. I hope they don’t trade me because I want to be with them the rest of my life.”
Don’t worry Jesus, we feel the same exact way.
Just a friendly reminder, but his brother is a proud member of “Bring Melvin to America”.
The Montero family is awesome.
Voy a segundo esto.
I’m going to 2nd this?
My Spanish is weak now so I’m not sure.
yea, she tried
Heh, I couldn’t tell. I wasn’t doubting her, just asking if that’s what it meant. Seriously, I have forgotten most of the Spanish I learned. I’m disappointed in myself.
That’s a great article. I love seeing new pictures of Jesus. I know it is better for him to spend the year in Scranton, but I want him now!
Kenny Smith is unbearable. This HORSE competition is booooring.
You mean you don’t enjoy bank-free throw shots and out of bound 3 pointers?
I didn’t say that. I enjoy MADE bank-free throws and out of bound 3 pointers. I do NOT enjoy an hour of missed shots while 3 fat has-beens make themselves the center of attention.
After the ending though I think I would’ve watched an hour of Kevin Durant shooting alone in an empty gym. He’s so nasty.
Rajon was surprisingly holding his own. And while Made bank-free throws are nice, its an NBA HORSE competition, make it more difficult then a shot i can make, and im rather terrible at the shotting of hoops.
Wait. The NBA All Stars are actually playing a game of Horse on national television?
And we wonder why we prefer baseball…
Making money >>>>> making sense.
Remember the days when good players participated in the Dunk Contest? Not to say these guys won’t come up with sick dunks.. It’s just not the same.
Does anyone know where you can get the rest of that video?
buy the DVD
Reggie Miller is acting like this is a game of chess.
I’m assuming I haven’t missed the dunk contest yet.
Jesus’ dad and brother are also named Jesus. Who does his dad think he is, George Foreman?
“Kepner thinks the 10-year, $275MM contract that Alex Rodriguez signed with New York after the 2007 season may serve as a benchmark for Jeter’s next deal.”
If Al is the benchmark, Jetes is worth less than 15 mil.
We all love DJ, but they are two completely different players and their contracts should have no correlation.
+1000
But Jeter is the icon. I have these nightmares of Jeter and A Rod playing at ages 40 plus at their present positions. Oh the horror. I’ve been good. I survived the George years, now this.
Alex will still be mashing at 40. Mark that shit down. He’s a freak.
would he still be dating women older than him by then though?
Damn it, Pierce won.
did he say he was “one of the best shooters in NBA history”???? REALLLY?
You play on a team with Ray Allen, THE best shooter in NBA history.
But NO, you’re right Paul. YOU are one of the BEST shooters in NBA history…
…I guess he is close to the leaderboard in “shots taken”
What a dick. Remember when he got stabbed?
What a dick. Remember when he got stabbed?
What does one have to do with the other? Call him a dick, but not sure why you bring up the guy almost getting murdered. If not for his leather jacket, dude would be dead. And he didn’t miss a game.
just reminiscing. at least it was a humbling experience for him.
Ok cool. No matter what anyone thinks of him, he is one tough S.O.B.
bringing up the stabbing is a very ignorant thing to do.
Does anyone know what time the Slam Dunk Contest is on? Have I missed it?
I think it’s about to start.
Thanks
Starts now, I reckon.
Thank you
Reckon you make me some biscuits.
I like them French fried potaters.
I reckon you go out back an fix me some taters.
Mmm hmm.
I apologize in advance if this is a dumb question but I don’t follow basketball closely, but didn’t Lebron say that this year he would be in the contest this year? What about Dwight Howard?
Howard ran out of ideas. Lebron wimped out.
LJ is above this. This is the worst dunk contest I’ve ever seen.
I know Nate is short, but he did something that 80% of NBA players could do.
“LJ is above this”
No he’s not.
Was it me or was this years dunk contest extremely mediocre?
Yup. It was a mountain of “meh”. A couple were decent but yeah, not a classic.
It was horrible. I was more entertained watching Durant make 7 3′s in a row at the end of the HORSE competition.
I regret only watching the Dunk contest now. I built it up to be so good that I wouldn’t have to watch anything else.
It sucked. Last year was so epic I thought the epicness would travel to this one. Especially with LeBron saying “HEY I’M PUTTING MY NAME IN” then taking it out.
And Howard left. Then it was Nate by himself though DeMar was pretty good.
Exactly, I didn’t realize that Lebron took his name back, and that Dwight wasn’t in it. Between the past two years I expected great things this year.
It was ATROCIOUS!!! Seriously though, it stunk. I’m thinking about participating next year and if this continues, I’ll win. Easily.
Yeah, easily. LOL.
Alright, I’m getting restless for baseball season. Today I watched the ’96, ’98, ’00, and ’09 season dvd highlights. I don’t think I can wait much longer.
What happened to 99′?
I wanted to watch the dunk contest and i had to choose between 2000 and 1999. I choose 2000 because I was talking to a Met fan at the time.
Yeah, 99′ is kind of “the year that time forgot”, sandwiched in between one of the greatest seasons of all time and a very memorable subway series win. 99′ didn’t really have anything special marking it except perhaps validating the Yanks as the team of the 90′s.
I always laugh when I hear the radio call of some call declaring the Braves the team of the 90s. Little did these guys know…
Heh, that was Bob Costas. At the time, of course, it wasn’t a stretch to say the Braves were the team of the 1990s. Then, after the Yankees won in 1999, he was like, “Team of the Decade!” Damn straight. (I can deal with people calling the Braves “the team of the ’90s” more than I can deal with people calling the Red Sox “the team of the ’00s”)
You know, I didn’t account for the absolute joy that comes from watching Americans beat Canadians on their home soil. The Women’s moguls were amazing.
Watching the South Koreans mug Ohno to take the 1-2-3 positions with one lap left and then wipeout to hand the US two medals was also great.
The Olympics are awesome.
We do not share the same sentiment.

Dear Mr. Axisa,
On the outside chance you read this, I implore you to add some sense to MLBTR. The conversation currently being held about the “Yankee Captain” is both appalling as well as uneducated. As a person currently in their employ, it is my most sincere wish you school these miscreants on the finer points of DJ. It pains me to read such blatant haberdashery (the urban definition), and view you as a perfect candidate to rectify the situation.
Thanks for the time.
There’s little hope for MLBTR comments.

Saw meets Die Hard
Except with John Cena
Im gonna miss Melky’s enthusiasm.
I don’t like the trade we did to get rid of him.
I will miss his arm the most, however his batting was average at best. Considering the Yankees gave him up along with a low a player for a veteran such as Vazquez it is worth it. Hopefully, Melky has a great career and I will be rooting for him in 99% of his games.
I just want to know how you name a video the “2009 New York Yankees” and don’t cover the WS win at all. How do you go and stop with the AL pennant? Really?
The best part about it is that this was taken from the WORLD SERIES DVD and still doesn’t include anything on the WORLD SERIES. Ridiculous…
