Been riding a 9 all since the end of the WS. Might drop a little if the FO goes with Phil over Joba as that hurts the current team and does not build much confidence in future plans.

I am holding at an 8 but becoming much more wary of the Rays with their young stud pitching being main competition this year rather than Red Sox. Would hate to see Tampa invigorated with early success against Yanks in first week series in Tampa although last year’s Jekyll and Hyde performance against the Red Sox should have cured me of putting too much importance on early season results.

    • Do Not Feed The Trolls!

Yes but Tampa Bay seems opposed to increasing payroll. The team despite its great farm needs to increase payroll to compete with the Yankees/Red Sox year after year.

      • steve s

Agree but from what I’ve been reading Tampa has a sense of urgency focusing on just this year and if they are in it they are going to hold on to their potential free agents rather than try to get something for them.

  • Drew

At 9 still. The only way I bump to 10 is if we make a move and acquire some new toys for the Farm. Or, if some of the lower level guys step up.

I’m a 9 ’til Mo goes out in the clinching game of the WS. Anything can happen.

Still at an 8, primarily due to the fact that they’re counting on a 36 year old SS, a 38 yo catcher and a 40 yo closer and have nothing in-house to cushion the loss of either position player to injury :-/ And they have their 3b locked up til he’s 42, which makes it harder to hold the line on said 36 yo SS and not give him a big-money 6 year deal. And first base is locked up for the next 7 years too.

    • WIlliam

You’re worried about Jeter and Mo?

      • whozat

I understand that they are exceptional cases. That said, ignoring the risk of injury and regression that is present for ALL players of that age would be foolhardy.

And still, I’m at an 8 overall. They certainly could stay healthy and produce well, but the chance that they don’t is a lot higher than, say, eight years ago. That contributes to the 8, instead of a 9.

With all of the hype around individual game tickets going on sale I thought I would try to get four. Usually I do not have the money when they go on sale and am forced to shell out $$$ to Stub Hub later in the year.

So this year I clicked on at exactly 12:00 noon and found myself at the prompt telling me I had a 6 minute wait… not bad I thought…

Well, six minutes came and went and the screen told me they found nothing. Then I checked other games for an hour just to be told the same thing no tix available other than the ridiculous priced field level where no ordinary Joe can afford to take a family.

This is sooo frustrating… I live 7 hours away upstate and have to plan out the trip and save the money to make the trek with the family.

Wish I knew the secret. isn’t there the pre-sale lottery? That had something to do with it probably..

At a 10, since the acquisition of Javy. The team last year was 9 and have only gotten better.

Like Pearl Jam’s first album, I’m at TEN.

    From 9 to 8:
I feel OK about this year, but not great. We had a shitload of good luck and overperformances last year, while the Sox and Rays seemed to underperform. So I think this year will be very tight.

    However, for the future:
    1) We did lose a lot of farm talent over the last 12 months.
    2) The ARod, CC, Teix and AJ contracts still loom large.
    3) Some of the numbers I hear Jeter might make are nuts.
I really believe that 3/$50m is still overpaying, yet I’m hearing numbers from $60m – $100m. We could have $190m tied up in less players that to fill the field. Cano is getting expensive and Joba and Phil will start making real money soon, if they perform well.

Unless Cashman is planning on going to $220m or above, and considering our Farm, I think finances are a MAJOR issue. And that’s assuming nobody get’s seriously hurt and falls off a cliff.

Sox won 95 games. That’s underperforming?
