A tier-y goodbye

Although many Yankee fans have assumed that the team would be getting their 2009 World Series rings at the team’s home opener on April 13, a recent report suggests otherwise it turns out they’re right. According to gossip site TMZ, the Yanks will be receiving their rings on April 13th at home against the Angels, the team they vanquished in the ALCS to reach the World Series. TMZ originally said they would receive their rings on the 14th, but they changed their story earlier today. The team, though, has yet to confirm this report.

If only the the the seasoned opened with BOS @ NYY instead of the other way around. We could have the rings there… in front of the Sox.

I’d rather do it in front of the Angels, who the Yankees beat on the way to winning that ring last year.

Eh. I’d rather do it in front of the Sox.

Yeah, I vote for the Sox also.

can we play the angels at fenway and do it then?

i agree, i like to see godzilla get his ring to an epic standing ovation

        • god

never thought godzilla would get mentioned

The Sox did it in front of us, right?

But frankly…I don’t really care. They’ve won twice in the past decade, and so have we…so it just doesn’t seem to matter as much as in past years. Maybe it’s just me; but I’m not worried about them that much. Yeah, they’ve got a good team; but we’ve got a better one, and I think our pitching, rotation AND bullpen combined, is better.

I hope we do the rings with the Angels in town…because, as Richard said below, I want Matsui to get an ovation, as I expect he will.

I can’t believe we’re actually citing TMZ as a source (and I use we because I did it, too)

So how/when will the players that are on other teams(like Hinske,Hairston, etc.) get theirs? Mail perhaps?

  • Richard Iurilli

How will Matsui get his ring? Is he likely to participate in the actual ceremony or will he get his the same way as the other former Yankees?

It would be pretty damn cool if the guy got an ovation while getting his ring with his former teammates.

      i hope thats the case

I assume that’s the way it will work. From what I’ve seen, former players are asked to “take a bow” during the ceremony. For some reason, I vividly remember Derek Lowe getting permission to leave the Dodgers and fly to Boston to be part of the ceremony. He came out in street clothes…huge ovation, etc.
