For luck …

  1. AJ says:

I just got here. Has anyone complained yet that the umpire didn’t warn both benches after the 2nd HBP?

  2. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

Dela G, Posada didn’t listen to you!

  3. Pat D says:

    Aw, shoot.

    • Johan Iz My Brohan says:

      Commenting Guidelines:

9: Don’t tell us that you were “first” to post in a thread. We don’t care. This is a one-strike offense. You do this; you get banned.

      tsk tsk tsk

      • Pat D says:

Wow, two bad things I’ve done in as many days. Inexcusable on my part. I meant it in sarcasm anyway, but, yea, just stupid.

  4. bexarama says:

good GOD those Giants uniforms are HIDEOUS!

  5. nathan says:

Just saw the replay of Teix running over Wilson, brought back memories when Teix ran over Posada at the stadium … the 13-11 or something game… that was a strong hit

  6. Chip says:

If you’re not busy during the break, good eye candy on Jimmy Kimmel right now

  7. JobaTheHeat62 says:

    Lincecum= good

  8. cjc says:

not a good feeling about this inning hope its just my dinner

  9. dark side of the goon says:

Ice cream sandwiches and beer. Seemed like a good idea at the time.

  10. Mike Axisa says:

A.J.’s gassed, he’s down to 90-91. Those first few innings took a lot out of him.

  11. Devil In A Blue Cap says:

    That. Is. Not. A. Slider.

Mo, give me the strength to survive John Flaherty.

    • vin says:

Better than the awful Angels announcers I have to listen to here. Damn blackout restrictions.

      • ThatGuyGreg says:

Seriously… it kills me, the Angels radio guys are great, but their TV guys are really making me appreciate the YES guys.

        • bexarama says:

you mean you don’t appreciate Victor Rojas SCREAMING ABOUT EVERYTHING!!!!! ?

        • Ojas says:

This would be the only circumstance where I’d wish we could replace what we have with what the Mets have. I think their booth trio of Cohen, Darling, and Hernandez is REALLY good

  12. Dela G says:

man Aybar knew that he was done… ha

  13. larryf says:

Aybar praying for the walk but not tonight. See ya! oooo-sounded like Kay

  14. bonestock94 says:

Player of the game = Tex. I appreciated his terrifying home plate performance.

  15. charles poet says:

Man Tex looks lost at times

  16. JobaTheHeat62 says:

they need to go to the bullpen

  17. Devil In A Blue Cap says:

Wow, he’s missing by feet now. Take him out Joe. Please.

  18. nathan says:

Which Angel player irritates you the most…

Aybar would be mine… he is constantly shaking his head east-west as if he does not agree his own thought process

  19. Dela G says:

    good god abreu give up

  20. Mike Axisa says:

D-Rob for one batter now, then Marte for Matsui.

  21. BigBlueAL says:

Here comes Robertson for 1 batter.

  22. nathan says:

was that the same binder that Joe G used in the ALCS… i wonder how often they print new copies with updated stats… lots of color print cartridges

  23. Ivan says:

Not a bad outing by AJ.

  24. Devil In A Blue Cap says:

Bad AJ showed up but managed to hold things together long enough to give the Yanks a chance. Other than wishing for good AJ, can’t ask for anything more.

  25. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

    David Robertson sighting!

  26. bexarama says:

    Rally Monkey. F-ck. ;_;

  27. larryf says:

I’m guessing Joe G said first man on and I’m getting him out of there. Not a bad hangin’ in there effort considering he didn’t have his best stuff and threw about 3 curves for strikes. I love Robertson’s drop and drive. His front foot hits the mound way down the mound…

  28. Dela G says:

    cmon drob

  29. JobaTheHeat62 says:

    Hip Hip Jorge!

  30. BigBlueAL says:

    Jorgie with the chooch!!

  31. AJ says:

    Que la chupe!

  32. bonestock94 says:

  33. Mike Axisa says:

Sit the fuck down Bobby. Right on the money with the throw.

  34. Dela G says:

    HE GONE!

  35. ShuutoHeat says:

  36. vin says:

Jorge threw that from 3 years ago.

  37. Can Tex run over the rally monkey!

  38. Chip says:

Posada > anybody catching for the Sox

  39. bexarama says:

I really love Jorge Posada. And yes, I did before that throw.

  40. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

    Watch and learn Victor Martinez.

  41. WIlliam says:

  42. Joe D. says:

Only one for now. Gotta save one for the game willing HR he’s gonna hit.

  43. Chip says:

Wow, D-Rob must be well rested, he’s hitting 93-94 now

  44. ShuutoHeat says:

Jorge’s expression and reaction after throwing out Abreu was hilarious+epic.

  45. Mike Axisa says:

Drop a douche on him D-Rob!

  46. Ivan says:

    D-Rob Bitches!!!

  47. bexarama says:

    D-Rob is a man.

  48. charles poet says:

  49. bonestock94 says:

I’m pumped, lets blow it up c’mon!!

  50. Pat D says:

Hurts my fantasy team (sadly have Hunter), but I want this game!

  51. Chip says:

  52. JobaTheHeat62 says:

D-Rob says FUCK YOU RALLY MONKEY!!!!

  53. Dela G says:

    robertson says “FUCK YO COUCH!!!”

  54. ThatGuyGreg says:

    Wooo! K-Rob!

  55. nathan says:

Spare a thought for Bobby Abreu.. his last two clubs won the WS after he left… once he leaves Angels they might win too.. the Mike Mussina club

  56. AJ says:

I’m sorry Slomin’s Shield but if I heard a noise in my house and I thought someone was inside I wouldn’t just go back to sleep because “the alarm is set”.

    • Pat D says:

They sent the burglar, of course. It was just a test of the emergency response systems. Had this been a real break-in, you’d have most likely been fucked.

    • Johan Iz My Brohan says:

Screw an alarm, all you need is a Louisville Slugger by the bed.

  57. EB says:

Curtis takes Rodney deep here. What are thinking Scocsia?

  58. vin says:

So have we nixed the K-Rob monikor? Too similar to K-Rod? I’m fine either way.

  59. ShuutoHeat says:

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m all fired up after Abreu got picked off and Hunter got K’ed. I even got up to signal the punch out when Hunter went down in strikes.

  60. AJ says:

Wait, so Fuentes is back as the closer?

  61. Dela G says:

aah, rodney throws 99, and can’t locate

    love it

  62. Chip says:

OK this is hilarious, the ANGELS station has a text poll going to see if the Angels or Yankees will have more wins this year, the Yankees are killing them

  63. JobaTheHeat62 says:

so I pitched a no hitter today on mlb 2k10, heres the kicker tho…2 runners reached on errors after Jorge failed to throw out a runner on a strikeout. FAIL

  64. JobaWockeeZ says:

Unlucky Yanks, extremely lucky Angels, nothing new.

  65. Joey C says:

My goodness,Tex and Nick 14 hits combined this year, what a joke.I am tired of hearing bad april starts, thats bull.Austin Jackson has more hits than both of them.

  66. nathan says:

I have only witnessed one Grand slam in person, it was in 07 i think, Torii Hunter hit a walk off grand slam against the Indians, the stadium just rocked that day…

a pet peeve i have with Angel stadium is that, they shoot Angel t-shirts during 7th inning stretches into the crowd, man a melee breaks out every time… once a fat dude bent over the seat below him and fell over and it got real ugly

  67. AJ says:

I just realized, no pie yet this year.

  68. poster says:

    Gardner with the HR?

  69. Chip says:

Wow, Gardner is definitely getting the rookie treatment by the home plate ump

  70. Mike Axisa says:

Run like a motherfucker Brett. Napoli couldn’t throw you out from the pitcher’s mound.

  71. JobaTheHeat62 says:

ok Gardy steal 2nd, 3rd, and Home…and MO cutters his way to a W

  72. AJ says:

Wow he throws hard. If only he had the control of a 13 year old boy who got to pitch for the Cubs throwing about the same velocity, all fastballs, no movement. I’m sorry Rookie of the Year drives me insane.

  73. ShuutoHeat says:

Hah! GGBG on the base paths…be afraid be very afraid.

  74. charles poet says:

    Send Gardner…WTF

  75. Chip says:

Wow, that’s a ballsy pitch to go changeup first pitch with Gardner over at first

  76. Ivan says:

    Gardner do ya thang.

  77. dkidd says:

would have been safe even if it was a force play

  78. Dela G says:

  79. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

    Now steal third!

  80. Chip says:

No chance at all, man he’s fast

  81. poster says:

No grounder to short please Jeet?

  82. ShuutoHeat says:

Seriously now, that’s fucking Brett Gardner aka GGBG aka Fastest White Guy In the World on base…. Do you really think you can throw him out at 2nd?

  83. Ivan says:

    Lets go Jetes.

  84. poster says:

    Fucking tease.

  85. bexarama says:

Not optimal, Jeter :( but a good at-bat.

  86. Dela G says:

  87. Hangoverologist says:

At least he didn’t ground to short.

  88. JobaWockeeZ says:

    They get it done.

  89. I’m still up and this game is an exercise in blue balls.

  90. ThatGuyGreg says:

    OH FER F… god dammit.

  91. Mike Axisa says:

Does anyone else remember that fan who climbed into the rocks last year (maybe 2008)? He raised his hands to salute the crowd, then dove into the water below, but it was like, an inch deep and he basically facepalmed?

Or did I dream that up?

  92. Pat D says:

At least we haven’t seen a Six Flags commercial tonight.

  93. JobaWockeeZ says:

Huh Joba only has 3 walks? Seems like more.

  94. dkidd says:

    kenny es muy authentico

  95. Ojas says:

We should hire Gus Johnson as our play-by-play guy and slide Kenny over to color commentator. Gus would make cans-of-corn seem like must-see TV.

    • Pat D says:

That’s one of Bill Simmons’ laws, I think. Gus Johnson broadcasts everything.

I’m just worried he’ll die during a game.

  96. Dela G says:

man if god is listening, he will give the yanks a win

  97. BigBlueAL says:

Marte had a nice outing in the bullpen warming up.

  98. bonestock94 says:

I need fist pump this inning.

  99. So about 65% of us call him “K-Rob” and the rest say “D-Rob.” Why can’t we just call him “Rob”?

  100. BigBlueAL says:

Fuentes warming up, Tex and Arod smiling.

  101. Mike Axisa says:

Nice play by Swish to hold him to a single.

  102. bexarama says:

    freaking long single

  103. ThatGuyGreg says:

It ain’t over ’til Fuentes puts a men on second & third with 1 out.

  104. Ojas says:

Reggie Willits — a starter on Bill Simmons’ Reggie Cleveland All-Star team

  105. Dela G says:

man i wish drob couldve stayed a couple more batters

    oh well

  106. charles poet says:

Would be a nice time for Nick and Tex to find the strike zone and get some hits.

  107. ShuutoHeat says:

    LOL Willits.
I remember last season they said Willits is the Angel’s answer to Gardner and then 2 seconds later Willits gets thrown out (my memory might be playing games, so I could be wrong).

  108. cjc says:

    not awesome

  109. bonestock94 says:

    Game over good night

  110. Hangoverologist says:

    This game is over.

  111. Ivan says:

    Nice Job Chamberlain.

  112. Devil In A Blue Cap says:

  113. Dela G says:

    holy shit

looks like i’m goin out to drink

    night folks

  114. V says:

Joba to the bullpen! Bull in a china shop! Grunts and farts!

  115. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

  116. cjc says:

    fucking hate the west coast

  117. BigBlueAL says:

    Is Marte still warming up??????

  118. poster says:

Fuck. Same old Yankees in Anaheim story. Never get the breaks.

    Joba looks awful, doesn’t he?

    Not a happy camper today.

  119. daneptizl says:

You could sense it coming…. sign…

  120. JobaTheHeat62 says:

    fucking Joba

  121. AJ says:

Don’t be such negative Nancies. IF he gets out of the inning alive, their closer is Brian Fuentes.

  122. vin says:

    Oh fiddlesticks.

I would’ve brought in Marte to face Matsui and turn Morales around.

I guess Nick and Tex will have to get on so Alex can drive them in.

  123. I stayed up until 1 a.m. for this?

  124. ThatGuyGreg says:

Holy cow – did they set off the fireworks at ground level?

  125. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

and he’s getting squeezed too. shit.

  126. Pat D says:

I guess no spillover thread tomorrow.

  127. cjc says:

you can call it a classic second guess but I would have stuck with robertson

  128. Mike Axisa says:

Meh, it’s not over when Brian Fuentes is their closer.

  129. Man, I hate these stupid in-game fireworks.

  130. bexarama says:

    that was annoying.

  131. We’re definitely not dead, but the numbers are not in our favor. I’m more upset that Joba looks pretty bad so far.

  132. JobaTheHeat62 says:

wow bullpen anyone? Joba is offering about what I would offer to a major league mound right now.

  133. Pat D says:

Morales now 5-7 vs. Joba? Jeez. Why didn’t he just leave Robertson in?

  134. BigBlueAL says:

Well Joba is the 8th inning guy.

  135. charles poet says:

Joba has nothing tonight. Man he is erratic.

  136. Ojas says:

    Get Joba out of there.

  137. JobaWockeeZ says:

Joba kinda needs to learn to pitch and not throw fastballs and sliders as hard as you can.

    • Zack says:

But everyone tells me you dont need to think or throw pitches as a reliever. Just let it all go for an innings and throw as hard as you can.

  138. ShuutoHeat says:

Com’on they can do this shiet, they’re the fucking Yankees.

  139. poster says:

We’re far from dead. Two runs against Rodney or Fuentes isn’t quite the same as two runs off of say Soria, Mo, Papelbon, or Nathan (assuming all are halthy). They’re all hittable.

  140. Ojas says:

    Wow, God bless speedy outfielders.

  141. stuart says:

noce outing by joba. nice hanger.

who is playing worse… look at strike 3 down the middle tex or ditto nick johnson

the 2 and 3 hitters are hitting about 150…………

  142. Coach6423 says:

games like this is why i hate bullpen roles…

  143. The Three Amigos says:

Im just sick of Girardi warming up every guy in the pen, only to sit them down. Then Robertson beasts for his first appearance in 9 days, and he is pulled after 6 pitches. Joba who could use another day off after a lot of work lately gets thrown in and give sup the game. Aceves hasn’t pitched in 7 days and Marte once in 7. Whatever happened to using all your guys.

I just hate how he marginalizes Robertson, let the kid pitch already.

  144. Hangoverologist says:

I’m reinvigorated: Maybe we can take a shit on the Angels’ fans hopes by hanging four runs on them off their terrible closing options?

  145. Devil In A Blue Cap says:

Geez, even his throws over look bad.

  146. JobaTheHeat62 says:

hopefully A-ROD can get his Fuentes on in the next inning

  147. JobaWockeeZ says:

    Joba’s getting hit hard.

  148. Cecala says:

    BUT TEH 8TH!!!!!!111!!!!1!!!!!eleven1!!!

  149. BigBlueAL says:

Maybe Joba is like Mo, cant pitch good in a tie game!! lol

  150. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

I miss the old Joba, I still love the new one, but the old Joba was filthy.

    • Jon G says:

As soon as I saw Joba throwing 92-93 on the gun, I knew we were in trouble.

      When he’s at 95-96, he’s siiick.

Why the inconsistency? That’s BIG inconsistency for a reliever.

      WTF, Joba?!

  151. Devil In A Blue Cap says:

For the love of all that’s good and holy, please throw strikes, Joba.

  152. Chip says:

Serious question, do you pinch hit Thames for Johnson next inning?

  153. Slu says:

My faith in Joba is at an all time low. I feel lucky every time he escapes an inning. It is time for me to admit they made the right choice for the fifth starter.

  154. ThatGuyGreg says:

Before this inning is over, the way this game has gone, mark my words, Joba will manage to drill Kevin Youkilis.

  155. larryf says:

Ok-we may lose on my birthday but tomorrow-we win on my birthday! I mean today… Joba needs to lose weight-I hate his mechanics. Falls off to the left-not centered-all arm

    bad stuff

  156. JobaTheHeat62 says:

    thank god…terrible inning

  157. charles poet says:

Only 9 strikes and three of those were hits. Not good.

  158. Even all three outs weren’t exactly weak pop-ups.

  159. Hangoverologist says:

Something interesting: Brian Fuentes had recorded 30% of his career save total in 2009.

  160. dkidd says:

pinch-hit thames if fuentes is closing

  161. Cecala says:

Did he just say, “He hit it straight to Grit Gardner?” By the way, as much as that HR by Joba sucked, Swishers attempt was very entertaining.

  162. Pat D says:

I know it’s been said, but man I hate the fireworks. Considering how long the smoke lingers, I’d pull my team off the field until it was gone.

    /Won’t get midged again’d

  163. larryf says:

backup catcher swinging on 3-0. I know he’s got power but….

  164. AJ says:

    An A-BOMB from A-Rod! A 3 run….signal annoying monologue by Suzyn Waldman.

  165. BigBlueAL says:

This is odd, Joba’s fastball was the same as a reliever as Hughes’ fastball was as a starter the other night. But Joba to the pen makes him throw 103 mph!!!

  166. AJ says:

    Don’t we need baserunners?

  167. charles poet says:

    Interesting move.

  168. JobaTheHeat62 says:

wow they actually did pinch hit Thames

  169. poster says:

    DON’T SWING 2-0!

    …Dammit, he swung 2-0!

  170. V says:

Why did Thames swing at a ball on 2-0?

  171. JobaTheHeat62 says:

blown away by the ol’ 89 mph

  172. Mike Axisa says:

I don’t get the pinch hitter. You need guys on base, which NJ is far more likely to do than Thames.

  173. Chip says:

    Right down the middle

  174. V says:

Thanks Girardi. That sure worked. Sit your top OBP guy for a hacker.

  175. ShuutoHeat says:

    God I hate Fuentes’ form…

  176. AJ says:

That was the worst excuse for an at bat I”ve ever seen. Not to overreact, I did see Beltran look at strike 3 in game 6 of the NLCS.

  177. charles poet says:

Never knew an 88 mph fast ball could make a ML hitter looks so foolish

  178. poster says:

Also, why is a man with like a 400 career OBP on the bench when we need one base runner on before we get our power hitters up?

  179. AJ says:

Ha imagine a Tex message now.

  180. cjc says:

fuck this goodnight andy better have his A game because this team never hit Pinero before Duncan got a hold of him

  181. Chip says:

I seriously hope they intentionally hit Tex and ARod hits one to tie it

  182. larryf says:

Tex swings at ball 2 when we need runners

  183. charles poet says:

God Tex is just awful right now. Just awful.

  184. ThatGuyGreg says:

I love how every time the Angels folks tell this story of Tex & the big bad collision, they start the story there – not with Tex being HBP. Homer farks.

  185. Even when Thames does well, I still wish ill on him and his family.

I no longer hate Gardner. Thames and Winn have replaced him.

  186. poster says:

This game has put me in such a bad mood. These guys really need to stop swinging at pitches when down by two in the ninth and up in the count. We need a baserunner, not a HR.

  187. Pat D says:

Grrr. Never like dropping the first game of a series.

    Especially against this team.

    Especially in this stadium.

Where the Yankees Sucks chant is now out.

  188. ShuutoHeat says:

Fuentes is scurred, he still has nightmares ever since Arod took him deep.

  189. V says:

    Proud of his fastball!

  190. larryf says:

Good news-we didn’t lose in extra innings.

  191. Ivan says:

    Get em tomorrow.

  192. ShuutoHeat says:

    Meh, there is always tomorrow.
    Keep them heads high.

  193. bexarama says:

    Well that was annoying.

Okay I need sleep so I’m getting out of here before the bridge-jumpers come around. Do it tomorrow, Andrew.

    • JobaTheHeat62 says:

      im jumping off a bridge!!!

    • V says:

Yeah, I’m heading to bed also. First 2 game losing streak of the season, definitely not the end of the world.

I love how when our 1-2 pitchers have HORRIBLE OUTINGS, it’s 8 IP, 3 ER and 6.1 IP, 4 ER.

      • bexarama says:

that. Though I’m more annoyed by the bullpen management tonight than anything else.

Okay now I’m really going to bed

  194. Mike Axisa says:

    Oh well. Go get’em tomorrow.

  195. What a shit game. I usually defend Girardi’s moves but I don’t fully understand tonight.

  196. V says:

This loss is on Girardi and Joba. Wow.

  197. poster says:

This game=EASILY most infuriating game of the year.

    • bexarama says:

blowing a 5-1 lead to the Red Sox was worse IMO

      • bexarama says:

but I understand why this was frustrating because of the weird managerial moves

      • poster says:

I kind of expected that. Never did I feel comfortable in that game or feel that we just “gave it away” like this game. I felt like at times in this game the Angels just got tremendous breaks and the Yankees would hit shit luck, plus the weird managerial moves. I hate the Anaheim stadium more than Fenway though.

  198. dkidd says:

i blame brett gardner’s (lack of) bunting ability

  199. nathan says:

that sucked… get them tomorrow boys

  200. Devil In A Blue Cap says:

Well that sucked. It only stings a bit because the Yanks have the better bullpen…as long as Joba Chamberlain isn’t pitching, apparently.

  201. Coach6423 says:

Victor Rojas just blew his load….Angels announcers talking season defining victory…

  202. ThatGuyGreg says:

This wouldn’t really be so bad, if I hadn’t been forced to listen to the Cali broadcast… now I’m just in a crap mood, and I’m all outta beer.

  203. BigBlueAL says:

So, the whole battle of the bullpens clearly in the Yankees favor tonight didnt come to fruition. Oh well, cant imagine Piniero shutting down the Yankees again tomorrow.

  204. charles poet says:

So what does it say when a .216 BA looks like .300 – when you have your #2 and #3 hitters batting .135 and .117 respectively. Yikes.

    • Johan Iz My Brohan says:

    • Eh, I really don’t think the BA is important for the #2 hitter. It’s about OBP. For Teix at #3, yeah, that hurts. Still, we need to keep in mind that our 3-7 hitters are all fairly interchangable. Most of them would hit 3rd-5th in any other lineup, so we can absorb those struggles other teams wouldn’t be able to handle.

I think Tex looks lost at the plate. He has found a few mistakes and turned on them but otherwise, he looks like he has no idea what is coming – hope it is just April for him.

Johnson, not so concerned with. He will even out.

    • Pat D says:

Yea, I’m gonna panic after 16 games.

Talk to me after 46 games.

      • charles poet says:

no one is panicking. But there is a difference in the ball just not dropping for a hit and staring at pitches in your hot zone.

Why is that always everyones response – “talk to me after x number of games” – WTF you running for office?

        • Pat D says:

Of course it’s annoying. But I remember what Teix did last year and I know what Johnson can do, so unless they’re still struggling like this and taking pitches like those in another month, I’m just not going to get too worked up about it.

Marathon, not a sprint. Every other cliche that’s out there.

        • Pat D says:

And while I’d love to run for office, I just couldn’t do so. I’m too opinionated, I curse a lot, I am not religious, I think pot should be legalized and I’d rather rule the entire world like a classic cartoon villain instead of having such a finite amount of imaginary power.

          Among other things. :)

        • Zack says:

Because it takes time for everything to equal out.

Austin Jackson is hitting over .308 with a .488 BABIP and a 37% K rate, if someone is saying OMG he’s a great hitter, we say- talk to me after 30 more games when everything evens out.

Nick Johnson has a .167 BABIP, so yeah- talk to us in another 40 games and when his OBP isnt ~.380

  205. Mark says:

Is Nick Johnson beginning to annoy you guys yet?
A DH that doesn’t hit, great concept.

  206. Hangoverologist says:

If we end up getting swept or losing two of three, the good thing would be that we’d be going against non-contenders in Baltimore and Chicago. Two sweeps or winning 4 of six would be great.

  207. Hey ZZ says:

That was just an absolutely terrible job by Girardi. There is nothing special about the 8th inning but Joe just basically said tonight Joba is TEH 8th inning closer. The direction bullpen management is going in today’s game is truly troubling.

Nothing about bringing in Joba there made sense. First, Robertson was throwing the ball great and had thrown only 6 pitches. But, since it is the magical 8th inning apparently Robertson can’t go back out there.

Ok, Joe you do not want to bring D-Rob back out. You have a guy in your pen who is historically great against LH and Matsui up at the plate. Then you have Kendry Morales on deck whose SLG last year was 115 points higher against RHP. Not only that, but he is 4-6 with a HR in his career against Joba. It may be a small sample, but when you have 4 hits in 6 at bats against a guy there is reason to be concerned.

And Joe just said the 8th inning is Joba’s “role.” Ridiculous.

    • bexarama says:

I agree it was a bad job by Girardi with the bullpen management tonight, but Matsui crushes lefties. I would have just kept D-Rob out there. The mystical, magical 8th inning thing is so stupid, especially with someone as infuriatingly inconsistent as Joba has been.

      • Hey ZZ says:

I would have stayed with Robertson as well. Was just saying if you were going to make a change Marte made much more sense especially with Morales on deck. Also, Matsui hits lefties the same as righties, so it is not like he is better against lefies.

It is just mind boggling that a guy who threw 6 pitches and looked good doing it was yanked for “the 8th inning man.” The whole concept is just so ridiculous.

        • bexarama says:

Yeah, I totally agree with everything here. I’m always nervous with Matsui against lefties, though. He is pretty even throughout his career (actually slightly worse against LHB), but last year his OPS was higher vs. LHB by nearly 150 points.

The idea of the eighth inning man needs to seriously die. Your last paragraph is really perfectly stated. Girardi is normally pretty good with the bullpen, but I don’t know why he’s in love with this idea.

          why am I still up

    • Pat D says:

“I lost with my best” will always be a more acceptable excuse than “I played by the numbers those crazy stats guys are always churning out.”

      More or less, anyway.

It’s basically as if they’re saying they expect Joba to be Mo’s heir. Personally I think Robertson should get a crack at that.

  208. bob says:

AJ did a good job of keeping us in the game even though he didn’t have his best stuff. Oh well, on to the next game.

  209. Tom Zig says:

Fact: The 2009 Yankees lost 59 games

Fact: The 2010 Yankees are on a better pace than that.

    Fact: I’m not worried.

  210. ecology says:

    ok heres the deal
tomorrow, I want NJ and Tex benched.

f it, thames at DH and Posada at first!

  211. sleepykarl says:

Bout time to start the Brett Gardner for All-Star team campaign. They start the voting this early to glorify those who start off with great SSS.
