  • AJ

I just got here. Has anyone complained yet that the umpire didn’t warn both benches after the 2nd HBP?

    • bexarama

someone did. IMO none of the HBPs were intentional and I think the umpires know that. Things were ugly after Hunter crashed into Teixeira but they’ve calmed down now.

      • bexarama

by “things were ugly” I mean it seemed like a fight was imminent but it wasn’t.

        • Pat D

          Well which was it?

          /semantic’d

          • bexarama

            haha.

It seemed like a fight was about to break out. However, said fight did not happen.

            • Pat D

I’m in the minority, I’m sure, but I’d love to see a brawl.

You know, so long as there were no major Yankee injuries or crippling suspensions.

  • Johan Iz My Brohan

Dela G, Posada didn’t listen to you!

    • Dela G

      he doesnt like me :(

  • Pat D

    First!

    Aw, shoot.

    • Johan Iz My Brohan

      Commenting Guidelines:

9: Don’t tell us that you were “first” to post in a thread. We don’t care. This is a one-strike offense. You do this; you get banned.

      —-
      tsk tsk tsk

      • Pat D

Wow, two bad things I’ve done in as many days. Inexcusable on my part. I meant it in sarcasm anyway, but, yea, just stupid.

        • Johan Iz My Brohan

Ha, I just wanted to call you out for it, no biggie.

          • Pat D

Just not thinking clearly. So distracted by my friend’s wedding tomorrow. Is it normal to worry that another friend might sabotage it by his mere presence?

  • bexarama

good GOD those Giants uniforms are HIDEOUS!

  • nathan

Just saw the replay of Teix running over Wilson, brought back memories when Teix ran over Posada at the stadium … the 13-11 or something game… that was a strong hit

  • Chip

If you’re not busy during the break, good eye candy on Jimmy Kimmel right now

    • Johan Iz My Brohan

      Who?

      • Chip

Alyssa Milano has the ladies out right now

    • cjc

      old

      • Ojas

        still hot

  • JobaTheHeat62

    Lincecum= good

    • JobaTheHeat62

speaking of Lincecum, one of my so not so intelligent friends thinks its a “lock” Lincecum will be a Yankee in 4 years..I think that is borderline retarded and will never ever happen.

      • dark side of the goon

is he one of those guys who hates the Yankees and says I will never be one?

      • Ojas

lol, after I read that I transposed “borderline retarded” and “not so intelligent” … funny

        • Ojas

I ACCIDENTALLY transposed them, to be clear

      • Pat D

Can’t see it. The pot fondness and the high probability of major injury.

        • Ojas

Yeah, how long do you think Lincecum pitches for? And for how long do you think he’ll remain top-2 starter (of a rotation) good?

          • Pat D

A few years at least, but by the time he’d hit free agency and the Yankees potentially sign him, I’d be afraid it would be the second coming of Catfish Hunter in terms of money spent vs. health and production.

        • JobaTheHeat62

lets hope the bullpen isn’t too rusty…god fuck the rally monkeys

    • Ivan

      Real Good.

  • cjc

not a good feeling about this inning hope its just my dinner

  • dark side of the goon

Ice cream sandwiches and beer. Seemed like a good idea at the time.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

A.J.’s gassed, he’s down to 90-91. Those first few innings took a lot out of him.

    • Chip

Yeah and suddenly he learned to somewhat locate that fastball

      • Chip

        Spoke too soon

  • Devil In A Blue Cap

    That. Is. Not. A. Slider.

Mo, give me the strength to survive John Flaherty.

    • vin

Better than the awful Angels announcers I have to listen to here. Damn blackout restrictions.

      • ThatGuyGreg

Seriously… it kills me, the Angels radio guys are great, but their TV guys are really making me appreciate the YES guys.

        • bexarama

you mean you don’t appreciate Victor Rojas SCREAMING ABOUT EVERYTHING!!!!! ?

        • Ojas

This would be the only circumstance where I’d wish we could replace what we have with what the Mets have. I think their booth trio of Cohen, Darling, and Hernandez is REALLY good

  • Dela G

man Aybar knew that he was done… ha

  • larryf

Aybar praying for the walk but not tonight. See ya! oooo-sounded like Kay

  • bonestock94

Player of the game = Tex. I appreciated his terrifying home plate performance.

    • dark side of the goon

I was at a football practice and a baseball game broke out.

      • Pat D

I was at a fight and a hockey game broke out?

  • charles poet

Man Tex looks lost at times

  • JobaTheHeat62

they need to go to the bullpen

  • Devil In A Blue Cap

Wow, he’s missing by feet now. Take him out Joe. Please.

  • nathan

Which Angel player irritates you the most…

Aybar would be mine… he is constantly shaking his head east-west as if he does not agree his own thought process

    • Pat D

All of them. Because they play for Mike Scioscia.

      Matsui excluded, of course.

      • nathan

if it were NBA he wud be thrown out so many times… he has his right hand over the railing, he torso facing his coaches, face arched like a buffoon and complains abt balls n strikes..

i have no idea how he can ever get a good look at pitches from that awkward an angle… tht wierdo

        • Chip

As a coach you can only see height of pitches, you go out and complain based on the reaction of your players and the fans

    • bexarama

Aybar, I think. Kendry Morales is so ugly and he has such a perpetually ugly look on his face, too…

Figgins and Lackey were up there.

      • bexarama

oh thank you Pat D. The obvious answer is Scioscia.

    • http://www.thechuckknoblog.com/ JobaWockeeZ

Ervin Santana. He complained about the umps on his performance. Now this BS today.

    • charles poet

      most of them.

  • Dela G

    good god abreu give up

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

D-Rob for one batter now, then Marte for Matsui.

    • Chip

I hate that, Girardi knows Matsui has a reverse platoon split and D-Rob also has a reverse platoon split

    • Ojas

why not keep Robertson in for Matsui? He has a reverse platoon split

  • BigBlueAL

Here comes Robertson for 1 batter.

  • nathan

was that the same binder that Joe G used in the ALCS… i wonder how often they print new copies with updated stats… lots of color print cartridges

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

I bet they have updated stats for every series. That binder is probably a day or two old.

      • nathan

It has to be for the whole AL right… that big a binder hopefully not for one team…

    • vin

They are the Yankees, ya know. They can afford it.

      • Chip

        They’re on a budget!

        • nathan

Yeah.. and we are already over 200 mill .. haha

        • vin

They send a portion of their ink to the small market teams like the Royals, Pirates, and Red Sox.

  • Ivan

Not a bad outing by AJ.

  • Devil In A Blue Cap

Bad AJ showed up but managed to hold things together long enough to give the Yanks a chance. Other than wishing for good AJ, can’t ask for anything more.

  • Johan Iz My Brohan

    David Robertson sighting!

  • bexarama

    Rally Monkey. F-ck. ;_;

  • larryf

I’m guessing Joe G said first man on and I’m getting him out of there. Not a bad hangin’ in there effort considering he didn’t have his best stuff and threw about 3 curves for strikes. I love Robertson’s drop and drive. His front foot hits the mound way down the mound…

  • Dela G

    cmon drob

  • JobaTheHeat62

    Hip Hip Jorge!

  • BigBlueAL

    Jorgie with the chooch!!

  • AJ

    Que la chupe!

  • bonestock94

    OUT YOU SACK!!

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Sit the fuck down Bobby. Right on the money with the throw.

  • Dela G

    HE GONE!

    • Devil In A Blue Cap

I cannot read that without hearing Hawk Harrelson’s voice. It haunts me.

  • ShuutoHeat

    GET OUT ABREU! SIT DOWN!

  • vin

Jorge threw that from 3 years ago.

  • http://richardiurilli.wordpress.com/ Richard Iurilli

Can Tex run over the rally monkey!

    • Pat D

Funny, I thought they had put it down? Did they resurrect it or something?

  • Chip

Posada > anybody catching for the Sox

  • bexarama

I really love Jorge Posada. And yes, I did before that throw.

  • Johan Iz My Brohan

    Watch and learn Victor Martinez.

  • WIlliam

    Yeah!!!!!

  • Joe D.

    Hip!

Only one for now. Gotta save one for the game willing HR he’s gonna hit.

    • Joe D.

      game winning, too.

  • Chip

Wow, D-Rob must be well rested, he’s hitting 93-94 now

  • ShuutoHeat

Jorge’s expression and reaction after throwing out Abreu was hilarious+epic.

    • JobaTheHeat62

what did he do? I started typing in excitement lol

      • bexarama

he like fist-pumped and twirled around. It was pretty awesome.

      • ShuutoHeat

lol he turned his upper torso like some boxer and puffing

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Drop a douche on him D-Rob!

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Or give him the high cheese. Past-eur-ize.

  • Ivan

    D-Rob Bitches!!!

  • bexarama

    D-Rob is a man.

  • charles poet

    Robertson>>>Hunter.

  • bonestock94

I’m pumped, lets blow it up c’mon!!

  • Pat D

Hurts my fantasy team (sadly have Hunter), but I want this game!

  • Chip

    SIT DOWN TORII

  • JobaTheHeat62

D-Rob says FUCK YOU RALLY MONKEY!!!!

  • Dela G

    robertson says “FUCK YO COUCH!!!”

  • Ojas

    BOOM

  • ThatGuyGreg

    Wooo! K-Rob!

  • nathan

Spare a thought for Bobby Abreu.. his last two clubs won the WS after he left… once he leaves Angels they might win too.. the Mike Mussina club

    • Pat D

More like the Buck Showalter Club.

    • bexarama

Phillies took a bit to win the WS after he won though.

Moose was obviously just cursed ;)

      • nathan

        Yeah that sucked… poor Moose

    • Devil In A Blue Cap

Except that the Phillies won the WS two years after the Abreu trade. And of course the Orioles became a bottom-feeding, perpetually destroyed sad sack franchise after Moose left.

But other than that, yeah, totally accurate.

    • Ojas

He’s the Marian Hossa of MLB

  • AJ

I’m sorry Slomin’s Shield but if I heard a noise in my house and I thought someone was inside I wouldn’t just go back to sleep because “the alarm is set”.

    • Pat D

They sent the burglar, of course. It was just a test of the emergency response systems. Had this been a real break-in, you’d have most likely been fucked.

    • Johan Iz My Brohan

Screw an alarm, all you need is a Louisville Slugger by the bed.

  • EB

Curtis takes Rodney deep here. What are thinking Scocsia?

    • AJ

My fantasy team would like it.

  • vin

So have we nixed the K-Rob monikor? Too similar to K-Rod? I’m fine either way.

    • WIlliam

      I call him k-rob.

    • Pat D

I prefer to say “F-Rod,” instead of “K-Rod.” Just sound it out.

  • ShuutoHeat

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m all fired up after Abreu got picked off and Hunter got K’ed. I even got up to signal the punch out when Hunter went down in strikes.

  • AJ

Wait, so Fuentes is back as the closer?

    • Hangoverologist

Yeah. He then blew a save against the Tigers. What are the odds that Scioscia brings in Fuentes and he promptly blows it by giving up a homer with two outs.

    • vin

      LOL, yeah.

  • Dela G

aah, rodney throws 99, and can’t locate

    love it

    • Dela G

hmm i guess he isnt throwing 99 anymore? he was doing it last year

      • Johan Iz My Brohan

        He has Joba Syndrome?

  • Chip

OK this is hilarious, the ANGELS station has a text poll going to see if the Angels or Yankees will have more wins this year, the Yankees are killing them

    • bexarama

thaaaat’s hysterical. What are the announcers saying?

      • Chip

They’re literally BEGGING the Angels fans to start texting in and are complaining about Yankees fans clogging up the lines. Comedy at it’s finest

        • vin

          They’re awful.

        • ThatGuyGreg

          The truth hurts

    • AJ

I wonder what the Royals, Astros and Pirates text polls say.

      • Ojas

If a nationwide poll asked whether the Yanks would have more wins than the Astros and Pirates combined, what are the odds that the percent saying yes is greater than 30%?

  • AJ

    Damnit..

  • JobaTheHeat62

so I pitched a no hitter today on mlb 2k10, heres the kicker tho…2 runners reached on errors after Jorge failed to throw out a runner on a strikeout. FAIL

    • AJ

That sounds about right. You weren’t playing at Johan Santana were you?

      • AJ

Nm. I need to read the whole post.

    • ecology

      u likin 2k10?

  • http://www.thechuckknoblog.com/ JobaWockeeZ

Unlucky Yanks, extremely lucky Angels, nothing new.

  • Joey C

My goodness,Tex and Nick 14 hits combined this year, what a joke.I am tired of hearing bad april starts, thats bull.Austin Jackson has more hits than both of them.

    • http://www.thechuckknoblog.com/ JobaWockeeZ

      Sigh.

    • bexarama

      o:s

    • nathan

Appreciate your sincere efforts to add some humor today

    • JobaTheHeat62

      the sky is falling

    • Devil In A Blue Cap

You appear to be lost. Did you mean to comment on this site?

      • Pat D

Was that a link for WasWatching? That site has been dead to me since they decided to rip Dave Winfield quite unnecessarily a few months ago.

    • http://mystiqueandaura.com/ JMK the Overshare’s Mystique and Aura

Time to take off the dunce cap.

  • nathan

I have only witnessed one Grand slam in person, it was in 07 i think, Torii Hunter hit a walk off grand slam against the Indians, the stadium just rocked that day…

a pet peeve i have with Angel stadium is that, they shoot Angel t-shirts during 7th inning stretches into the crowd, man a melee breaks out every time… once a fat dude bent over the seat below him and fell over and it got real ugly

  • AJ

I just realized, no pie yet this year.

    • bexarama

we don’t want pie in this situation o_O

      • AJ

O_o I was just saying in general. Pie would be impossible in an away game.

        • bexarama

ah. We just don’t want pie for the other team is what I meant.

    • nathan

Did you know that Ike davis got a pie for going 2/4 in his debut.. the standards that the mets have are amazing

      • AJ

They should give their Starters pies for getting through a game without a several injury.

        • nathan

          I bet they do… lol

        • AJ

          Severe***

      • Devil In A Blue Cap

        1. They are the Mets.

        2. That’s pretty much all the joy they’re going to get. Might as well celebrate something.

        • nathan

          true that

i bet soon they will have incentive clauses like, if you only make 2 DL trips you get 100K

  • poster

    Gardner with the HR?

    • poster

      BB works too.

  • Chip

Wow, Gardner is definitely getting the rookie treatment by the home plate ump

    • Dela G

he just got a GRRRRREAT call there

    • Chip

And then gets strike one thrown to him after 5 straight balls

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Run like a motherfucker Brett. Napoli couldn’t throw you out from the pitcher’s mound.

    • http://mystiqueandaura.com/ JMK the Overshare’s Mystique and Aura

Ahem, that’s “Bradenia” to you, buddy.

      • http://www.thechuckknoblog.com/ JobaWockeeZ

        Golf clap.

      • bexarama

        haha. people are fuuuuunny.

      • Pat D

        All hail King Dallas!

      • JobaTheHeat62

im glad Nomaas finally responded to the story..for a second there I thought they were passing on a great oppurtunity

        • bexarama

NoMaas didn’t do the Bradenia thing.

          • JobaTheHeat62

I know, they did a photoshop tho of AROD grabbing a chicks “mounds” and the face was Braden

  • http://www.thechuckknoblog.com/ JobaWockeeZ

    EAST COAST BIAS!

    • bexarama

      A+

  • JobaTheHeat62

ok Gardy steal 2nd, 3rd, and Home…and MO cutters his way to a W

  • AJ

Wow he throws hard. If only he had the control of a 13 year old boy who got to pitch for the Cubs throwing about the same velocity, all fastballs, no movement. I’m sorry Rookie of the Year drives me insane.

  • ShuutoHeat

Hah! GGBG on the base paths…be afraid be very afraid.
    FINISH THEM CAPTAIN!!

    • http://www.thechuckknoblog.com/ JobaWockeeZ

      Give them a FATALITY.

      • http://mystiqueandaura.com/ JMK the Overshare’s Mystique and Aura

        Caliooogan!

  • charles poet

    Send Gardner…WTF

  • Chip

Wow, that’s a ballsy pitch to go changeup first pitch with Gardner over at first

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

It’s been the same pattern for each batter. Change, fastball, now comes the change…

      • charles poet

So that would now mean change up coming

  • Ivan

    Gardner do ya thang.

  • dkidd

would have been safe even if it was a force play

  • Dela G

    GARDNER STEAL!

  • Johan Iz My Brohan

    Now steal third!

    • http://mystiqueandaura.com/ JMK the Overshare’s Mystique and Aura

What good would that do with 2 outs?

  • Chip

No chance at all, man he’s fast

    • Devil In A Blue Cap

Is a grounder back to the pitcher better or worse?

  • ShuutoHeat

Seriously now, that’s fucking Brett Gardner aka GGBG aka Fastest White Guy In the World on base…. Do you really think you can throw him out at 2nd?

  • Ivan

    Lets go Jetes.

  • poster

    Fucking tease.

  • bexarama

Not optimal, Jeter :( but a good at-bat.

  • Dela G

    &*&#)$*#&*&$#(*&#$!!!

  • Hangoverologist

At least he didn’t ground to short.

  • http://www.thechuckknoblog.com/ JobaWockeeZ

    NJ-Teix-A-Rod

    They get it done.

  • http://mystiqueandaura.com/ JMK the Overshare’s Mystique and Aura

I’m still up and this game is an exercise in blue balls.

  • ThatGuyGreg

    OH FER F… god dammit.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Does anyone else remember that fan who climbed into the rocks last year (maybe 2008)? He raised his hands to salute the crowd, then dove into the water below, but it was like, an inch deep and he basically facepalmed?

Or did I dream that up?

    • ThatGuyGreg

That happened, and it was awesome.

    • Pat D

High comedy. I’d have remembered that if I saw it, but I did not.

    • bexarama

no, it was during the playoffs last year I think and it was hilarious

      • vin

        yeah, it was.

    • http://www.thechuckknoblog.com/ JobaWockeeZ
    • Dela G

      lol i remember that

i def think it was last year

    • Ojas

I remember that, I think it was last year. Definitely awesome

    • http://mystiqueandaura.com/ JMK the Overshare’s Mystique and Aura

      Faceplanted?

      • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

        Yeah, my bad.

  • Pat D

At least we haven’t seen a Six Flags commercial tonight.

    • ShuutoHeat

Fucking Six Flags, I hate that fucking commercial with the old geezer…

Its supposedly a chick under all that old geezer makeup…

      • Pat D

A chick? No wonder it never talks. Oh, wait, it does ever so briefly in the last one I saw.

The creepiness quotient is now set to infinity.

      • http://mystiqueandaura.com/ JMK the Overshare’s Mystique and Aura

That’s why I’m oddly attracted to “it”. See, that’s normal. Thanks for the confirmation.

  • http://www.thechuckknoblog.com/ JobaWockeeZ

Huh Joba only has 3 walks? Seems like more.

  • dkidd

    kenny es muy authentico

  • Ojas

We should hire Gus Johnson as our play-by-play guy and slide Kenny over to color commentator. Gus would make cans-of-corn seem like must-see TV.

    • Pat D

That’s one of Bill Simmons’ laws, I think. Gus Johnson broadcasts everything.

I’m just worried he’ll die during a game.

  • Dela G

man if god is listening, he will give the yanks a win

  • BigBlueAL

Marte had a nice outing in the bullpen warming up.

  • bonestock94

I need fist pump this inning.

  • http://mystiqueandaura.com/ JMK the Overshare’s Mystique and Aura

So about 65% of us call him “K-Rob” and the rest say “D-Rob.” Why can’t we just call him “Rob”?

  • BigBlueAL

Fuentes warming up, Tex and Arod smiling.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Nice play by Swish to hold him to a single.

  • bexarama

    freaking long single

  • ThatGuyGreg

It ain’t over ’til Fuentes puts a men on second & third with 1 out.

  • Ojas

Reggie Willits — a starter on Bill Simmons’ Reggie Cleveland All-Star team

  • Dela G

man i wish drob couldve stayed a couple more batters

    oh well

  • charles poet

Would be a nice time for Nick and Tex to find the strike zone and get some hits.

  • ShuutoHeat

    LOL Willits.
I remember last season they said Willits is the Angel’s answer to Gardner and then 2 seconds later Willits gets thrown out (my memory might be playing games, so I could be wrong).

  • http://mystiqueandaura.com/ JMK the Overshare’s Mystique and Aura

2 runs against Rodney or Fuentes? Not even close.

      Joba just looks atrocious though.

    • Ivan

      No it isn’t.

  • Ivan

    Nice Job Chamberlain.

  • Devil In A Blue Cap

    Yeah…no.

  • Dela G

    holy shit

looks like i’m goin out to drink

    night folks

  • V

Joba to the bullpen! Bull in a china shop! Grunts and farts!

  • Johan Iz My Brohan

    DAMN IT

  • Ojas

    Fuck

  • cjc

    fucking hate the west coast

  • BigBlueAL

    Is Marte still warming up??????

  • poster

Fuck. Same old Yankees in Anaheim story. Never get the breaks.

    Joba looks awful, doesn’t he?

    Not a happy camper today.

  • daneptizl

You could sense it coming…. sign…

  • JobaTheHeat62

    fucking Joba

  • AJ

Don’t be such negative Nancies. IF he gets out of the inning alive, their closer is Brian Fuentes.

  • vin

    Oh fiddlesticks.

I would’ve brought in Marte to face Matsui and turn Morales around.

I guess Nick and Tex will have to get on so Alex can drive them in.

    • Devil In A Blue Cap

For that to happen we’ll need Mo, Jesus and any other deity you can think of.

  • http://richardiurilli.wordpress.com/ Richard Iurilli

I stayed up until 1 a.m. for this?

  • ThatGuyGreg

Holy cow – did they set off the fireworks at ground level?

    • ShuutoHeat

The fireworks have always been obnoxious.

  • Johan Iz My Brohan

and he’s getting squeezed too. shit.

  • Pat D

I guess no spillover thread tomorrow.

  • cjc

you can call it a classic second guess but I would have stuck with robertson

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Meh, it’s not over when Brian Fuentes is their closer.

    • http://richardiurilli.wordpress.com/ Richard Iurilli

Especially with Johnson, Teixeira, and A-Rod due up.

  • http://richardiurilli.wordpress.com/ Richard Iurilli

Man, I hate these stupid in-game fireworks.

    • http://mystiqueandaura.com/ JMK the Overshare’s Mystique and Aura

Whaa? I do that shit every time I manage to not piss on the seat. We should set off fireworks for every accomplishment, no matter how small it may seem.

  • bexarama

    that was annoying.

  • http://mystiqueandaura.com/ JMK the Overshare’s Mystique and Aura

We’re definitely not dead, but the numbers are not in our favor. I’m more upset that Joba looks pretty bad so far.

    • Devil In A Blue Cap

He’s really looking terrible. It’s kind of depressing. And by “kind of” I mean “really.”

      • http://mystiqueandaura.com/ JMK the Overshare’s Mystique and Aura

Missing spots and everything is getting hit hard.

        • bexarama

the really annoying thing about it is that he’ll do that one appearance, and the next, he’ll be awesome. Aaargh

          • http://mystiqueandaura.com/ JMK the Overshare’s Mystique and Aura

He lacks consistency in both roles.

  • JobaTheHeat62

wow bullpen anyone? Joba is offering about what I would offer to a major league mound right now.

  • Pat D

Morales now 5-7 vs. Joba? Jeez. Why didn’t he just leave Robertson in?

    • http://www.thechuckknoblog.com/ JobaWockeeZ

      Meh SSS.

      • Pat D

True, but, still smacks of total domination.

    • ShuutoHeat

It is puzzling, you would expect Girardi to notice Morales’ track record against Joba.

      • http://mystiqueandaura.com/ JMK the Overshare’s Mystique and Aura

Meh, as JWZ said, it’s a small sample size.

        • ShuutoHeat

          true true.

  • BigBlueAL

Well Joba is the 8th inning guy.

  • charles poet

Joba has nothing tonight. Man he is erratic.

  • Ojas

    Get Joba out of there.

  • http://www.thechuckknoblog.com/ JobaWockeeZ

Joba kinda needs to learn to pitch and not throw fastballs and sliders as hard as you can.

    • Zack

But everyone tells me you dont need to think or throw pitches as a reliever. Just let it all go for an innings and throw as hard as you can.

  • ShuutoHeat

Com’on they can do this shiet, they’re the fucking Yankees.

  • poster

We’re far from dead. Two runs against Rodney or Fuentes isn’t quite the same as two runs off of say Soria, Mo, Papelbon, or Nathan (assuming all are halthy). They’re all hittable.

  • Ojas

    Wow, God bless speedy outfielders.

  • stuart

noce outing by joba. nice hanger.

who is playing worse… look at strike 3 down the middle tex or ditto nick johnson

the 2 and 3 hitters are hitting about 150…………

    • JobaTheHeat62

we should trade them both for Mike Napoli

  • Coach6423

games like this is why i hate bullpen roles…

  • The Three Amigos

Im just sick of Girardi warming up every guy in the pen, only to sit them down. Then Robertson beasts for his first appearance in 9 days, and he is pulled after 6 pitches. Joba who could use another day off after a lot of work lately gets thrown in and give sup the game. Aceves hasn’t pitched in 7 days and Marte once in 7. Whatever happened to using all your guys.

I just hate how he marginalizes Robertson, let the kid pitch already.

    • bexarama

Robertson was at a funeral for his grandmother for a few days, I think. I don’t understand why he didn’t stay in there other than TEH 8TH!!!!!. But I agree, he seems to use Joba too much.

      • http://mystiqueandaura.com/ JMK the Overshare’s Mystique and Aura

I’m telling you, Girardi has a fantasy team which is why he makes many seemingly perplexing bullpen choices.

  • Hangoverologist

I’m reinvigorated: Maybe we can take a shit on the Angels’ fans hopes by hanging four runs on them off their terrible closing options?

  • Devil In A Blue Cap

Geez, even his throws over look bad.

  • JobaTheHeat62

hopefully A-ROD can get his Fuentes on in the next inning

  • http://www.thechuckknoblog.com/ JobaWockeeZ

    Joba’s getting hit hard.

  • Cecala

    BUT TEH 8TH!!!!!!111!!!!1!!!!!eleven1!!!

  • BigBlueAL

Maybe Joba is like Mo, cant pitch good in a tie game!! lol

    • Ojas

I thought Mo’s struggles were in non-save situations

      • http://www.thechuckknoblog.com/ JobaWockeeZ

        Yeah non-save.

  • Johan Iz My Brohan

I miss the old Joba, I still love the new one, but the old Joba was filthy.

    • Jon G

As soon as I saw Joba throwing 92-93 on the gun, I knew we were in trouble.

      When he’s at 95-96, he’s siiick.

Why the inconsistency? That’s BIG inconsistency for a reliever.

      WTF, Joba?!

  • Devil In A Blue Cap

For the love of all that’s good and holy, please throw strikes, Joba.

  • Chip

Serious question, do you pinch hit Thames for Johnson next inning?

    • ThatGuyGreg

      Yes, 1000 times yes.

    • cjc

I do but its probably an emotional overraction

    • http://mystiqueandaura.com/ JMK the Overshare’s Mystique and Aura

Against Fuentes? No. He’s wild, NJ is patient. We need runs. I still like Nick in that spot.

    • Chip

Wow, I didn’t think they’d actually do it

  • Slu

My faith in Joba is at an all time low. I feel lucky every time he escapes an inning. It is time for me to admit they made the right choice for the fifth starter.

  • ThatGuyGreg

Before this inning is over, the way this game has gone, mark my words, Joba will manage to drill Kevin Youkilis.

    • JobaTheHeat62

it would all be worth it then…nothing makes me happier than when he gets hit by a baseball

  • larryf

Ok-we may lose on my birthday but tomorrow-we win on my birthday! I mean today… Joba needs to lose weight-I hate his mechanics. Falls off to the left-not centered-all arm

    bad stuff

    • http://mystiqueandaura.com/ JMK the Overshare’s Mystique and Aura

Did you get yourself a pitching biomechanics book for your birthday?

      • larryf

nah-I have always felt that way about Joba. I did like his big whale flop last year in Cleveland to catch that bunt :-) great mechanics there.

  • JobaTheHeat62

    thank god…terrible inning

  • charles poet

Only 9 strikes and three of those were hits. Not good.

  • http://mystiqueandaura.com/ JMK the Overshare’s Mystique and Aura

Even all three outs weren’t exactly weak pop-ups.

    • bexarama

      Seriously, they were bombs. Yikes.

  • Hangoverologist

Something interesting: Brian Fuentes had recorded 30% of his career save total in 2009.

  • dkidd

pinch-hit thames if fuentes is closing

    • dkidd

not really, but nj stinks right now

    • JobaTheHeat62

never thought any of us would be requesting this one

  • Cecala

Did he just say, “He hit it straight to Grit Gardner?” By the way, as much as that HR by Joba sucked, Swishers attempt was very entertaining.

    • JobaTheHeat62

would have been funnier if he fell over the wall (and not get injured of course)

    • bexarama

I actually kind of agree about the Swisher thing. Damn, Swish!

  • Pat D

I know it’s been said, but man I hate the fireworks. Considering how long the smoke lingers, I’d pull my team off the field until it was gone.

    /Won’t get midged again’d

  • larryf

backup catcher swinging on 3-0. I know he’s got power but….

    • bexarama

Napoli shouldn’t be a backup catcher.

      • Pat D

        Napoli shouldn’t be a catcher.

  • AJ

    An A-BOMB from A-Rod! A 3 run….signal annoying monologue by Suzyn Waldman.

  • BigBlueAL

This is odd, Joba’s fastball was the same as a reliever as Hughes’ fastball was as a starter the other night. But Joba to the pen makes him throw 103 mph!!!

  • AJ

    Don’t we need baserunners?

  • charles poet

    Interesting move.

  • JobaTheHeat62

wow they actually did pinch hit Thames

  • poster

    DON’T SWING 2-0!

    …Dammit, he swung 2-0!

  • V

Why did Thames swing at a ball on 2-0?

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Cheating on a fastball. He started swinging as soon as the ball left Fuentes’ hand.

      • V

Another reason why Johnson should have hit.

So, Girardi’s cool with Thames’ SSS against lefties this year, but ignored the SSS of Morales vs. Joba.

  • JobaTheHeat62

blown away by the ol’ 89 mph

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

I don’t get the pinch hitter. You need guys on base, which NJ is far more likely to do than Thames.

    • http://mystiqueandaura.com/ JMK the Overshare’s Mystique and Aura

Yup, exactly what I said. Just threw a shoe at the TV.

    • JobaTheHeat62

he wouldn’t have swung at that 2-0…thats for damn sure.

    • Johan Iz My Brohan

I don’t get how Thames couldn’t drill even one high fastball. Suddenly. Fuentes turned into Papelbon of old.

  • Chip

    Right down the middle

  • V

Thanks Girardi. That sure worked. Sit your top OBP guy for a hacker.

  • ShuutoHeat

    God I hate Fuentes’ form…

  • AJ

That was the worst excuse for an at bat I”ve ever seen. Not to overreact, I did see Beltran look at strike 3 in game 6 of the NLCS.

    • V

No. I totally agree with you. Swinging and missing on those 2-1 and 2-2 meatballs is inexcusable.

  • charles poet

Never knew an 88 mph fast ball could make a ML hitter looks so foolish

  • poster

Also, why is a man with like a 400 career OBP on the bench when we need one base runner on before we get our power hitters up?

  • AJ

Ha imagine a Tex message now.

  • cjc

fuck this goodnight andy better have his A game because this team never hit Pinero before Duncan got a hold of him

    • http://mystiqueandaura.com/ JMK the Overshare’s Mystique and Aura

Are we playing Mad Libs? That was incoherent.

      • Zack

what you dont like when people type like this make multiple points in one phrase without punctuation

  • Chip

I seriously hope they intentionally hit Tex and ARod hits one to tie it

    • Johan Iz My Brohan

I seriously hope they intentionally hit ARod and ARod Cano hits one to tie it

      • Johan Iz My Brohan

        HTML FAIL

        • Jed Pain

          Human Error

  • larryf

Tex swings at ball 2 when we need runners

  • charles poet

God Tex is just awful right now. Just awful.

  • ThatGuyGreg

I love how every time the Angels folks tell this story of Tex & the big bad collision, they start the story there – not with Tex being HBP. Homer farks.

  • http://mystiqueandaura.com/ JMK the Overshare’s Mystique and Aura

Even when Thames does well, I still wish ill on him and his family.

I no longer hate Gardner. Thames and Winn have replaced him.

  • poster

This game has put me in such a bad mood. These guys really need to stop swinging at pitches when down by two in the ninth and up in the count. We need a baserunner, not a HR.

  • Pat D

Grrr. Never like dropping the first game of a series.

    Especially against this team.

    Especially in this stadium.

Where the Yankees Sucks chant is now out.

  • ShuutoHeat

Fuentes is scurred, he still has nightmares ever since Arod took him deep.

    • Pat D

      1-2, ARod’s coming for you…

  • V

    Proud of his fastball!

  • larryf

Good news-we didn’t lose in extra innings.

  • Ivan

    Get em tomorrow.

  • ShuutoHeat

    Meh, there is always tomorrow.
    Keep them heads high.

  • bexarama

    Well that was annoying.

Okay I need sleep so I’m getting out of here before the bridge-jumpers come around. Do it tomorrow, Andrew.

    • JobaTheHeat62

      im jumping off a bridge!!!

    • V

Yeah, I’m heading to bed also. First 2 game losing streak of the season, definitely not the end of the world.

I love how when our 1-2 pitchers have HORRIBLE OUTINGS, it’s 8 IP, 3 ER and 6.1 IP, 4 ER.

      • bexarama

that. Though I’m more annoyed by the bullpen management tonight than anything else.

Okay now I’m really going to bed

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

    Oh well. Go get’em tomorrow.

  • http://mystiqueandaura.com/ JMK the Overshare’s Mystique and Aura

What a shit game. I usually defend Girardi’s moves but I don’t fully understand tonight.

  • V

This loss is on Girardi and Joba. Wow.

    • Zack

Weren’t you bitching to take AJ out after the 4th inning?

      • V

I didn’t expect him to fix the problem (he’s never shown that ability before, really). His outing was a pleasant surprise post-4 ER.

  • poster

This game=EASILY most infuriating game of the year.

    • bexarama

blowing a 5-1 lead to the Red Sox was worse IMO

      • bexarama

but I understand why this was frustrating because of the weird managerial moves

      • poster

I kind of expected that. Never did I feel comfortable in that game or feel that we just “gave it away” like this game. I felt like at times in this game the Angels just got tremendous breaks and the Yankees would hit shit luck, plus the weird managerial moves. I hate the Anaheim stadium more than Fenway though.

  • dkidd

i blame brett gardner’s (lack of) bunting ability

    • V

Yeah, that was annoying. d00d needs to go to AAA and bunt 100 straight ABs.

  • nathan

that sucked… get them tomorrow boys

  • Devil In A Blue Cap

Well that sucked. It only stings a bit because the Yanks have the better bullpen…as long as Joba Chamberlain isn’t pitching, apparently.

    • The Big City of Dreams

but i thought joba was made to be a reliever

  • Coach6423

Victor Rojas just blew his load….Angels announcers talking season defining victory…

    • Pat D

Angels announcers = even dumber than I could have imagined.

    • bexarama

when you BEAT THE YANKEES you’re MAKING A STATEMENT!!!!

    • poster

That is now one of the five dumbest baseball comments I’ve ever heard about.

      • bexarama

Victor Rojas caught a bad case of the dumbs when he left MLBN for the Angels broadcasting booth. It’s like they told him to be a ridiculous homer, and those were the only parameters he was given

        • poster

April statement games though? Really? REALLY?

  • ThatGuyGreg

This wouldn’t really be so bad, if I hadn’t been forced to listen to the Cali broadcast… now I’m just in a crap mood, and I’m all outta beer.

  • BigBlueAL

So, the whole battle of the bullpens clearly in the Yankees favor tonight didnt come to fruition. Oh well, cant imagine Piniero shutting down the Yankees again tomorrow.

  • charles poet

So what does it say when a .216 BA looks like .300 – when you have your #2 and #3 hitters batting .135 and .117 respectively. Yikes.

    • Johan Iz My Brohan

      stop.

    • http://mystiqueandaura.com/ JMK the Overshare’s Mystique and Aura

Eh, I really don’t think the BA is important for the #2 hitter. It’s about OBP. For Teix at #3, yeah, that hurts. Still, we need to keep in mind that our 3-7 hitters are all fairly interchangable. Most of them would hit 3rd-5th in any other lineup, so we can absorb those struggles other teams wouldn’t be able to handle.

      • charles poet

I think Tex looks lost at the plate. He has found a few mistakes and turned on them but otherwise, he looks like he has no idea what is coming – hope it is just April for him.

Johnson, not so concerned with. He will even out.

    • Pat D

Yea, I’m gonna panic after 16 games.

Talk to me after 46 games.

      • charles poet

no one is panicking. But there is a difference in the ball just not dropping for a hit and staring at pitches in your hot zone.

Why is that always everyones response – “talk to me after x number of games” – WTF you running for office?

        • Pat D

Of course it’s annoying. But I remember what Teix did last year and I know what Johnson can do, so unless they’re still struggling like this and taking pitches like those in another month, I’m just not going to get too worked up about it.

Marathon, not a sprint. Every other cliche that’s out there.

        • Pat D

And while I’d love to run for office, I just couldn’t do so. I’m too opinionated, I curse a lot, I am not religious, I think pot should be legalized and I’d rather rule the entire world like a classic cartoon villain instead of having such a finite amount of imaginary power.

          Among other things. :)

        • Zack

Because it takes time for everything to equal out.

Austin Jackson is hitting over .308 with a .488 BABIP and a 37% K rate, if someone is saying OMG he’s a great hitter, we say- talk to me after 30 more games when everything evens out.

Nick Johnson has a .167 BABIP, so yeah- talk to us in another 40 games and when his OBP isnt ~.380

  • Mark

Is Nick Johnson beginning to annoy you guys yet?
A DH that doesn’t hit, great concept.

    • V

He’s doing better than Teixeira, that’s for sure.

    • Hangoverologist

      O:S

      /dalelama’d

    • Pat D

I seem to have heard this somewhere before…

    • Devil In A Blue Cap

His >.400 OBP is SO annoying, you’re right. I wish he put more balls in play and made more outs. Why are so you so good at baseball Nick Johnson? WHY?

  • Hangoverologist

If we end up getting swept or losing two of three, the good thing would be that we’d be going against non-contenders in Baltimore and Chicago. Two sweeps or winning 4 of six would be great.

  • Hey ZZ

That was just an absolutely terrible job by Girardi. There is nothing special about the 8th inning but Joe just basically said tonight Joba is TEH 8th inning closer. The direction bullpen management is going in today’s game is truly troubling.

Nothing about bringing in Joba there made sense. First, Robertson was throwing the ball great and had thrown only 6 pitches. But, since it is the magical 8th inning apparently Robertson can’t go back out there.

Ok, Joe you do not want to bring D-Rob back out. You have a guy in your pen who is historically great against LH and Matsui up at the plate. Then you have Kendry Morales on deck whose SLG last year was 115 points higher against RHP. Not only that, but he is 4-6 with a HR in his career against Joba. It may be a small sample, but when you have 4 hits in 6 at bats against a guy there is reason to be concerned.

And Joe just said the 8th inning is Joba’s “role.” Ridiculous.

    • bexarama

I agree it was a bad job by Girardi with the bullpen management tonight, but Matsui crushes lefties. I would have just kept D-Rob out there. The mystical, magical 8th inning thing is so stupid, especially with someone as infuriatingly inconsistent as Joba has been.

      • Hey ZZ

I would have stayed with Robertson as well. Was just saying if you were going to make a change Marte made much more sense especially with Morales on deck. Also, Matsui hits lefties the same as righties, so it is not like he is better against lefies.

It is just mind boggling that a guy who threw 6 pitches and looked good doing it was yanked for “the 8th inning man.” The whole concept is just so ridiculous.

        • bexarama

Yeah, I totally agree with everything here. I’m always nervous with Matsui against lefties, though. He is pretty even throughout his career (actually slightly worse against LHB), but last year his OPS was higher vs. LHB by nearly 150 points.

The idea of the eighth inning man needs to seriously die. Your last paragraph is really perfectly stated. Girardi is normally pretty good with the bullpen, but I don’t know why he’s in love with this idea.

          why am I still up

          • Hey ZZ

It is even more confusing because Girardi is so obsessed with matchups at times.

    • Pat D

“I lost with my best” will always be a more acceptable excuse than “I played by the numbers those crazy stats guys are always churning out.”

      More or less, anyway.

It’s basically as if they’re saying they expect Joba to be Mo’s heir. Personally I think Robertson should get a crack at that.

  • bob

AJ did a good job of keeping us in the game even though he didn’t have his best stuff. Oh well, on to the next game.

    • poster

      True that.

      We win tomorrow.

  • Tom Zig

Fact: The 2009 Yankees lost 59 games

Fact: The 2010 Yankees are on a better pace than that.

    Fact: I’m not worried.

    ok heres the deal
tomorrow, I want NJ and Tex benched.
    both!

f it, thames at DH and Posada at first!

Bout time to start the Brett Gardner for All-Star team campaign. They start the voting this early to glorify those who start off with great SSS.
