Nick Johnson will walk his way into our hearts. Who needs hits anyway?
Kind of glad to see K-Rob and not Joba.
I’m sorry, but Joba looks fat and out of shape to me. And he has for most of the past year. Most players lose weight as the season progresses, he looked like he gained over the course of 2009.
alright, auditions are open
joba to the 1st!!!
robertson. daddy likes.
please don’t fail.
Is there anything sweeter than seeing an opposing pitcher walk a run in?
Seeing the opposing overrated closer walk YOUR superhuman closer to force in a run.
There were so many great moments in 2009. This was one of them.
Awesome moment for sure!
Guess they didn’t like what they saw from Joba on Sunday.
“This is telling.”
No, it’s not. It’s the second game of the season. We don’t have an 8th inning guy yet. Everyone will get more than one shot. Ass.
Maybe they figure Joba would hit Youk. You know. Like always.
Fuck these YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU chants. It’s close enough to a boo so use that instead.
Dammit, I hate when the thread spills over as I am typing in a comment.
Second guessing not letting Ace start the 8th??
Let’s fuckin’ go, D-Rob. Bear down here, kid. Show us that future closer in you.
just. use. d-rob.
If Marte was going to face Ortiz, how was he not ready?
Short outing for Robertson, eh?
WTF one batter? Come on.
Damaso coming in. This is telling!
K-Rob for just one batter? Why not just leave in Aceves?
because that would just be too easy
No evidence no apologies and no regards…
and making no sense…
Joba also threw 100 million pitches on sunday and robertson threw like 5.
thank you. we’ll be in touch. next.
Robertson has a .608 OPSA vs. LHB in 147 PAs.
Nah, he had a similar split on the minors. He’s always been good vs Lefties, his fastball has some natural cut to it.
DRobb ever gonna get a chance to do anything?
He came in. He gave up a hit.
Marte has one job on this team. To get lefties out.
I really hate matchup games.
Can we just remove all the lefties from the bullpen? I hate to say this, but the bullpen may need to be Girardi-proofed.
I dont want to see Joba in a tight game right now. And I certainly dont want to see Jorge catching Marte either.
Steven Goldman is shouting “Coffee Joe!” at his television set.
Are you fucking kidding me?
How many mistakes are the Yankees planning on making in this series exactly?
Marte needs to go on the DL, like, last week.
d00d. Learn to throw the fucking ball.
Relax, buddy. All will be well.
What the heck was that?
What in the FUCK are you doing, Marte? It’s Kevin Fucking Youkilis. He isn’t going to steal!
At least this time it will take 3 wild pitches for Youk to score.
Make that 2 wild pitches and an errant pick-off throw.
Or a Damaso error and 2 wild pitches.
aughghhghhghhg. C’mon Marte.
you’ve gotta be fucking kidding me
why are they trying to hold youkilis on in the first place? where is he gonna go???
…Just get 2 outs. Then Mo. 2 outs.
I fuckin hate Mrte again.
Awesome. This is looking good. Damaso is having trouble pretty much hitting any target.
Way to keep Youkilis close. Lord knows he’s a huge threat on the bases.
In the context of the game, that was a HUGE mistake.
Tex is not playing a very clean defensive game, is he?
Not much Teix can do when the pitcher throws a changeup into the dirt.
That ball was not far away from him. It’s more Marte’s fault, but he still should have caught that ball.
Posada called for it
this sloopy pla is disgraceful
my spelling is disgraceful
Hang on Sloopy?
jeezus, such sloppy baseball
Can they keep Marte under wraps until October?
I agree, they are just trying to make the Sox think he sucks and then in the ALCS he’ll shut down the whoever he sees.
Worked last year.
Hate the move. Don’t want to see Chamberlain blow the game after Marte leaves…and Marte does something dumb.
Fuck this shit.
Chuck Knoblock throw to first.
Marte thanks for the WS ring but if you don’t start picking it up your going to be cut.
No, he’s not going to be cut.
He is owed just 8 million. Sox cut Lugo and he had 9.5 million this year only that they were owed plus part of his salary last year.
Okay fuck it. Cash make an early visit this year. This is more sloppy then an Ortiz AB.
that made me laugh. CRAZY SCREAMING!!!!!
I guess the Sox noted Grandy’s arm.
marte needs to pitch in games. all that needs to be said. It’s game 2 guys.
as does Joba.
I’m starting the official Not-Questioning-Joe’s-Bullpen-Process Bandwagon. Who’s with me?
Sadly, no one.
Speeding up the games FTW.
I’m now very nervous.
Did Kay just say that Marte did his job? I do believe that the runner still advanced.
But Ortiz didn’t reach.
Still, he earns a C for that.
Geez, Joba looks fucking fat.
He ain’t skinny…
Running out of the bullpen, he was jiggling all over the place.
My fingernails don’t like this pitching change.
Here comes the loss…goddamnit.
Can I see your crystal ball? Mine’s foggy.
Never mind, apparently yours isn’t quite right either. Hmmm…
Joba against Drew and Cameron? Oy.
At least that plays to his strengths — Drew has had trouble with him in the past, and Cameron is a high-K hitter.
Whoops, Beltre and Drew. Cameron if one of them reaches.
I dont have a good feeling on Joba. D-Rob could have taken care of Ortiz and then faced Beltre.
okay, Joba. Please be good.
Prediction: Joba does not throw a fastball on the fat part of the plate to Beltre.
Cuz that would be smart.
He’s wearing his Phiton necklace tonight, he doesn’t need location when he can throw through brick walls with that thing.
at this rate we’ll get joba, chop, mitre, mo and hughes for one out each (he’s a relief pitchaaahhh!!!)
God, are we going to go through this 3-pitchers-an-inning thing every time there’s a left-handed batter sandwiched between 2 right handers?
No 3-2 sliders, Joba. No 3-2 sliders.
Bring in Mo!!!! Just kidding I know its only the 2nd game of the season. Well lets see if Joba is up to this, nice early test for him.
…No screw it bring in Mo.
Nah, lets see if Joba can get out of this.
I really want to know why Joe brought in Robertson for one freaking guy.
Is that a waste of resources or what?
Following the lead from the FO.
I keed, I keed.
He came into get an out. He failed. Get over it.
Nah, it really didn’t.
If you’ve payed attention to Joe over the past couple years, you’d know how he manages the game. Whether it’s right or wrong, whether you agree with it or not, it’s how he plays it.
In a matchup situation, if he asks you to get an out, and you don’t, he’ll probably pull you. We’ve seen it many times. We’ll see it many more.
Get over it.
He’s doing what he did last year: trying people out to see what he’s got and who he can trust. As much as it’s killing us to watch, this is a process that needs to occur, and these games are as close to meaningless as regular season games get.
In spite of the fact that we can’t stand it when we lose to Boston, Joe’s keeping his eyes on the prize.
that. moreover, it goes beyond “trying people out”. Quite simply, Marte HAS TO PITCH to become the dominant lefty reliever he can be. Which we want him to be, because that makes our bullpen, and therefore our team, better. Same goes for Joba. Other than Aceves, who needs as much practice going multiple innings as the other relievers do getting 1/2/3 batters out, everyone just needs to pitch in a bunch of games right away and get into a routine. It might cost us a game here and there early on, but that’s how you turn middle relievers into effective weapons.
That’s not the point. I didn’t talk about Marte. I was talking about using your resources in a smart manner. Using one of your best arms in a close game for one out is not using your resources in a smart manner.
Joe is a good long-term bullpen manager. He could use some work on his in-game tactics.
Are we all feeling better now?
Play nice, boys.
Odds Joba hits Youkilis with a pickoff throw?
please joba pretty please
LOL at that 2nd pitch being called a ball.
I can’t believe he swung at that.
Nice. I like this Joba.
one more, bulldog, one more
I don’t want to hear a status update on velocity on Joba’s EVERY PITCH.
Joba shakes off Jorge for the K!!!!
Shit, MLBN had that fastball to K Beltre at 96 mph.
So did YES.
Again, its because he’s wearing the Phiton necklace.
Those things look so dumb to me. It’s a hunk of plastic, what’s the attraction?
Well that calmed me down a bit. Thanks for expanding the zone, Adrian.
*grunt and fart*
Fantastic. LOL for real.
Nice Joba. 96.
TEH SET-Up, FARTING< SNORTING BULL LOOSE IN A CHINA SHOP IS BACK!!!!!111!!!1
(The errors in spelling and punctuation merely add emphasis.)
TEH FIST PUMP!!!11!!!!11!1
your handle accurately portrays you
He’s a reliever…. funny how he’s back up to 96….. which in reality is probably 93-94.
Is this sarcasm?
You mean the velocity he held into his 100th pitch back in 2008?
2007/2008 Joba isn’t back. He won’t be unless he can start hitting 99 with regularity.
Nothing is wrong with Joba’s velocity tonight I’ll say that much. Looking filthy so far.
That was a nasty slider.
FIST PUMP BITCHES!
oh thank you Joba THANK YOU
Drew simply cannot deal with the slider. I’m ok with it.
What the hell don’t these guys understand about pitchers gaining velocity out of the bullpen?
His ball doesn’t lose speed as it moves closer to the plate?
Well, neglecting air resistance . . .
/how a solid percentage of my academic life elapsed . . .
This is why my dick chafes so much???
hey, i remember this guy!
Its 2007 all over again!!!!!
2-1 slider-lookin’ good Joba and he takes something off the 2-2. Awesome. Mo time!!!!
Fist pump!!!! FTW
Thank God my predictions are terrible. Thank you, Joba.
Fist pump! Very nice.
Pump that fist!
Same pitch, same location, same result.
Don’t fucking fistpump. More fuel to the B-Jobbers.
Yet it pisses off Sox fans. Meh.
finally Joba looks like a major league pitcher for once…His slider was nasty
See, that there fist pumping and farting clearly demonstrates the bullpen is where he belongs.
not gonna lie, i just giggled.
Poor JD Drew. Imagine hitting amidst all of that grunting and farting.
Plus the snorting and fearing the fist pump in the end.
That was reminiscent of 07. Fastballs down in the zone, high 80′s sliders up with the bottom dropping out.
94-95 with the fastball as well. Not 99, but to be honest he doesn’t need to throw that hard and I’m not sure they want him to. Some doctors think guys that throw that hard are just doing damage to their shoulders.
This year, I’m going to try and avoid gun-watching until June, at least, until the pitchers build up strength.
happy hour’s from 5-infinity brah. hang loose.
Hello, B-Jobbers coming to post on how they were right all along.
(Ready for the onslaught)
Wow…that was nuts, I saw a couple of 95s there on Gameday and on the NESN gun.
That’s the Joba I think we all want to see…bullpen or rotation.
Hey JMK at the overshare of deez nutz, i haven’t been around much because i have been studying for the CPA exam. I will be back in business when i finish the last test (audit) on may 5th
i’ll bring the bayonets
Nice, good luck to you Del.
thanks man, i’m almost done passing all four parts
Pshaw. Try the actuarial exams, bay-bee!
(7 down (I’m counting the FAP IA and FA as exams), 4 to go… ugh).
Very positive Joba-changing speeds for strikes-best part about this game so far…
it’s funny to think of joba like pigpen from peanuts. just a cloud of farts of grunts surrounding him at all times.
If we get an A-Bomb here, gamesetmatch.
if anyone cares Tampa Bay walked off against Baltimore and won 4-3.
show me ’07 ARod now too and I’ll be a happy man
attaboy Joba!!….calling an A-bomb….
Jesus, Kay, we did see that from Joba as a starter in 2008. And in spurts last year. Talk about confirmation bias …
Fallacy of the predetermined Kay comment?
No fallacy there.
“Jesus, Kay, we did see that from Joba as a starter in 2008. And in spurts last year. Talk about confirmation bias …”
thats why you have to question if ppl really watch the games or not.
Holding back so you can last longer.
I know how that is.
Damn, that was close.
goddammit JD Drew stop being good at baseball
i heart this comment
Drew and his damn +10 UZR.
Arod = Centaur
Joba = Minotaur?
Pedroia = Pixie
The pixie is not a figure in Greek mythology.
(And Clayton Kershaw already has “The Minotaur” on lockdown)
Pedroia = nassty Hobbitses.
Damn Fenway. That’s a homerun in New York.
I don’t care if JD Drew is on my fantasy team, watching that fist pump by Joba was beyond awesome.
Don’t you know!!
You my boy, Robbie!
Woot. Cano motherfuckers!!
<3 Robbie <3
Gotta give Mo that cushion.
Don’t ya know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Insurance runs FTW!
Robbie, gotta love those no RISP AB’s
Anyone else here forced to watch the yanks game on NESN?? You do not know painful game calling until you’ve watched a yankee game on NESN.
haha I actually like the NESN callers…
errr guys that do the commentary. If they had a radio station and they had callers, they would probably be horrific.
Trust me, you do NOT want to listen to WEEI.
It’s pretty much exactly the Sox version of sports radio here in New York.
WEEI is absolutely terrible.
I’m sorry, you cannot be serious. You can actually tolerate listening to these guys state “that woulda been a dinger in yankee stadium” everytime theres a fly ball to right field??
much better than the espn announcers, that’s for sure
Ugh, I hate seeing Robbie swing at those pitches in the dirt.
AND THEN…he makes me look stupid with that blast!
Even with nobody on he’s batting them in! Go Ribbie!
Cano doesn’t need men on base to get an RBI
lazy bastard, he just wanted to jog around the bases.
I hate you.
Lazy Dominican asshole, hitting home runs so that he doesn’t need to use energy running the bases.
Robbie is going 30/120 this year
oh Robinson you beautiful creature
where does robbie stand on the Pettitte-Leiter list?
(he’s pretty much on top of the mancrush list)
he’s got a great smile
plus he’s really good.
I think this going to be a monster year by Cano, he’s even taking pitches now too!
So I guess those years of slow starts for Cano are over, huh? That was just crushed.
It was only a matter of time. The way he always killed in Spring ball. Hopefully the weather and his bat stays warm.
I guess Jeter has started going to Mo’s barber.
I love the was Cano drops the bat after he hits one hard.
Definitely my second favorite Yankee. After that bum A-Rod.
Where’d the Joba farting on the mound meme come from?
Apparently it was printed in the post:
“Scouts” and the abomination that is George King say that Joba should be a reliever because he is a “grunt and fart” guy. I shit you not.
I’m still a bit shocked they have this pseudo-Japanese guy in after giving up a lot of hard contact.
I love it when Cano knows right away that he hit it out. He drops the bat, watches it, and has a shit eating grin as he rounds the bases
Oh sure he can hit them out when nobody’s on, but where’s his clutchiness. I mean clearly he’s not clutch if he’s only hitting a home run in a one run ball game in the bottom of the 8th.
He’s clearly taking his cues from A-Rod.
“LOOK OUT, Nick!”
Don’t do that. This shit takes long enough to load as it is. There’s already a lot to scroll.
Get a computer with better RAM
And internet Service Provider
Please be courteous. The request was pretty simple and straightforward.
But he didn’t say please
Would you have done it again if he had said please, though? Really? Be honest with yourself.
Shit, I didn’t realize I’d been so rude. Excuse me for not asking politely. In the future, would you please refrain from posting a large list of repetitive nonsense that does nothing to further the discourse or spark any kind of new and engaging thought?
Maybe you could even change it up by sprinkling in a tidbit about how nice the weather is or the challenges municipalities in NY/NJ face with their cut in state aid?
Pwetty, pwetty please?
I heard there was a fist pump
you are quickly becoming RAB’s most annoying commenter
Not a strike.
That would have hit a RH batter.
alright, it’s mo time, it’s been too long
That is a terrible call.
That was not a strike.
Angel Hernandez needs a good shanking.
…not to hurt him, just to send a message.
Yeah, after how Singleton talked against instant replay the umps have been noticeably off so far this season.
Here’s a dagger: †
Use it well. Angel’s no angel.
I forgot what an insurance run looked like.
Umps want to go home. I want to go to bed. Thank Mo it’s time for Mo.
If anyone wants to laugh at the Boston fans…there’s always this clip..I want pizza..:
Oh my Mo I totally forgot about that. Incredible.
Yeah, I saw that, it was bizarre. Jerry Remy kept giggling about it throughout the whole game.
I believe that was also the game where Boston came back down like, 4 runs in the 9th inning against the Orioles bullpen.
Sleep with one eye open/Gripping your pillow tight
dude 6 closers blew games, 1 took a loss in a tied game, and the other was Mo.
First pitch strike. Of course.
zomg is he spitting?!?!?!?
How many times has Winn played in Fenway? The, again, I guess he may as well get used to it now.
Im sure a shitload of times with Tampa I assume.
Word, my b.
Damn, Costas just said that Mo, Jeter and Posada are the first pair of teammates in North American team sports (MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL) to play together for 16 straight seasons.
Was Houston really worth it, Andy?
Was it really?
that there is an interesting tidbit.
Obviously I meant trio of teammates not pair of teammates since its 3 of them.
Damn, Costas just said that Mo, Jeter and Posada are the first pair triumvirate of teammates in North American team sports (MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL) to play together for 16 straight seasons.
Wouldnt trio work too?? I did correct myself btw right above this reply!!
Trio actually works better.
I just like the word “triumvirate”.
You are a well educated man with one helluva vocabulary
My R-squared value is statistically significant.
1 down for Mo!
The man does not waste time.
how in the world was that not a strike
That was a ball to Scutaro, but Swisher’s was a strike?
I know dude, I was thinking the same exact thing.
Where the fuck is this call for the Yankees.
Screw inconsistent AND wrong umpires.
I unlocked my pitchfork and torch shed…get the angry mob ready.
Okay, maybe the shanking should hurt him.
angel hernandez is a joke
Nice to see Atchison getting the big zone but the newcomer Rivera getting squeezed multiple times.
Soooooo, where is the range from Gardner there????
Meh, Ellsbury and Pedroia? Not worried.
Should have been out but hey. Can’t go against Boston ever.
Gardner should have had that. He hasn’t played left enough.
feck. C’mon Mo.
One hop to the wall? Someone probably should’ve got that.
i hate all the idiots that sit behind home plate!!! That wave at the camera!!!
I only hate the idiot wearing a mask and saying wrong calls all day.
I hate Marco Scutaro for what he does to Mo.
Also the home plate umpire, because he’s been terrible tonight.
Still hate Fenway.
ugliest shot of Youk ever
I think it was tie with every other shot of him.
agreed. he is red sox incarnate in the worst possible way.
Isn’t that every shot of him ever?
it was especially bad
More like: Was there ever a not-so-ugly shot of him?
show the kid who’s boss
well, i’m glad to get that call, angel.
THANK YOU! I was worried that might be called a ball for a split second.
Yup, Mo’s so nasty sometimes he fools the umpire AND the hitter.
Holy shnikes that pitch was nasty.
Eww overreacting Red Sox fans FTL.
Tomorrow’s headline in the Philadelphia newspapers?
YANKS AVOID SWEEP.
The quest for 161-1 is still intact, thank Mo.
2 down for Mo!!!
“When he decides to go in the backdoor they just stand there and take it.”
I love Ken Singelton
Sounds like something Cone would say.
Ken Singleton: Black Dynamite.
Boom goes the Kenny Singleton?
Gotta love Mo.
sound advice from kenny:
when mariano decides to come in the back door, just stand there and take it
3 errors should mean you lose but the Yanks won. The season is saved!!!!
I’m confused. I was told two nights ago that our bullpen was eptastically horrible. I cannot square these two conflicting pieces of information.
Wallace Matthews just cursed because he doesn’t have anything to write about for tomorrow.
Back to .500, baby.
Tomorrow they go over for good.
BALL GAME OVER, SEASON SAVED WOOOOOOOOOOO
I just fistpumped all Joba-esque.
OMG THE YANKEE BULLPEN IS SO BAD!!!!!
Somehow we overcame Jorge’s inadequacies and won! Woohooo
and now for the probing post-game questions from our crack staff at Yes
There’s an obscene joke in there somewhere.
But I‘m not gonna make it.
Damn, how is the MSM going to turn this into a negative?
Nice! Good job by Mo, but I think today’s biggest star is Ace.
Cano was big. A single, a walk, a sac fly, and a homer.
Thank Mo for Mo!
Mo the gigante!!!…good guys win!!!!!
Alright, who was the asshole who called me a Red Sox fan…they won I’m here, come get some.
He said come get some! Now duel, or step aside JMK!
I’ll need to borrow Rebecca’s swords.
This is how I roll
Here’s some of my work:
It wasn’t me, but you basically acted like the team sucked and everything was going to go wrong for them, and right for the other teams. Then you came by later with a MUCH saner post.
Retroactive sanity FTW!
I don’t know if you’re talking about me…
but if so, here I am.
And so are you. So you’re not a Sox troll. But you sure acted like one.
Yes, he is. He just wants to fool everybody.
Then I was right!
I don’t know that for sure, but I very much suspect it.
Oh, I remember you now. Yeah, you were a bit of an alarmist last season. I’m not questioning your fandom, but it was a little too much Chicken Little for many last year. That tends to rub people the wrong way at RAB.
You’ve been solid this season from what I’ve read.
Then you weren’t paying attention.
And work down.
Oh, hadn’t seen that. I’d been working off a Shake Shack hangover at the time.
Make sure you get all the highlights:
I hate Joba Chamberlain thoroughly, and thought Lester/Becektt was a better playoff 1-2 in the playoffs.
“I hate joba chamberlain”
*shakes head * wow
So you’re calling out the person that thought you’re some troll? Look at some of your comments and picture someone else saying that.
You’ve gotta take the good with the bad and vice-versa. No offense, but you sound like the type of person who is a Yanks fan when they’re doing well but bashes them to no end when they’re doing bad.
Have a lil faith in the team, don’t start bitching/moaning/crying/whining when someone gives up a hit/run. We can complain about bad moves, but don’t shit all over the team when they’re down a run or so.
HERE I AM!!!!!!!!!!!!
Are you happy the season isn’t completely lost?
Hey, buddy, there’s only room for one asshole in this thread. Move over. I was here first.
well i was the one who told him to cheer for the Sox, he was getting on my nerves. I got carried away
I think it was poster and I who used the word “troll”, but you’re welcome to some of the blame if you want it!
I don’t take it back either. Comments like, “Here comes the loss. Goddammitt.” When Joba comes in still have me convinced that he’s just trying to piss people off. I mean, there’s pessimism, which is natural, then there’s taking the time to make sure you post exactly how badly you think things will go, when you know everybody will get pissed off at that. He’s a troll.
Go to the link I posted, and do a search in the page for “Oaktag”, “O:S”, and “O;S”.
You’ll find about 10 hits, or more…and they’re all on his posts.
I do thoroughly loathe Joba Chamberlain, I didn’t think a small lead (one run IIRC) with a man in scoring was safe at the time. Given the last few times we’ve seen him pitch, that should be understandable.
Saying “Getting kind of worried here” and “Here comes the loss. Goddammitt.” Are two different things. You’re a troll.
I find that I’m less disappointed with a negative outcome if I predict it.
Perhaps there’s a confusion of days here. Did you make that remark tonight?
Poster and I used the “T”-word in the Open Thread yesterday.
There’s still time for that to happen.
A sloppy but exciting game. A win is a win. And hey, the bullpen was really good today.
It’s amazing what happens when they don’t let Chan Ho Park pitch.
Yeah, that’s what made EVERYONE who came out of the pen that night give up runs and/or let inherited runners score.
It’s all teammate Rallying Ability.
Robertson didn’t allow a run, and the majority of the ass was blown by Park. Really don’t like the move, and I would have much preferred Chad Gaudin or even one of the FA lefty relievers. I’m guessing McAllister or Melancon will take his job soon enough.
I don’t think it has anything to do with Park. It’s just that bullpens are inconsistent. We can’t draw too much of a conclusion after two outings. Maybe he will be a complete zero. Maybe he’ll be mediocre. Maybe he’ll be really good. Too early to say.
I admit he makes me nervous out there, but so does Joba and Marte. But that’s true of all teams.
Repeated for emphasis.
The best bullpen in the majors is still constantly on the verge of implosion. No team ever feels safe with their relievers.
Unless their last name’s Rivera.
What’s that have to do with your point? You’ve picked an example that is practically unique to make what has become a strawman point.
Jesus Fucking Christ, I can’t even worship at the Altar of Mo infront of you assholes. I wasn’t really making a point.
Mo is still GOD.
posada future manager?
I love him but no.
My girlfriend asked me this same question just the other night; I replied with the exact words you just used.
I may have inserted a verbal comma before “but”, though.
I hope not.
I’ve got a feeling that would be a bad thing.
let’s at least hope it’s not with the yanks, yikes. he’s like a human shill for talking points.
it worked out well for Jorge tonight. He overcomes slow and unintelligent baserunning (should have hustled to third on grit’s humpback and scored on a sac fly) to get it done…
Umm no, you dont advance on a line drive until you KNOW it’s not going to be caught.
Yeah, I’m the first one to say Jorge is baserunning-challenged, but considering his speed, or lack thereof, I’m can’t blame him there.
It’s much worse to go when you’re not sure, as Zack said, and get thrown out by 30 feet. We’d all really be killing him then.
I actually think he’d be good. Catchers generally make good managers, and Posada is a guy who commands respect.
And hatred. From certain people. But whatevs, point is I think he’d be a fine manager.
He look good to me outta da bullpen
Yay Mo! Yay first win of the year!
did Aceves get the vulture win already? luls
and Okajima is already 1-1. Weird
Finally, all is right with the world again.
Damn, you guys buried my post, so here it is again:
Tonight the Yankees beat the Red Sox and the Knicks beat the Celtics. Screw you Boston!!!!
Someone said this the year the Giants won the Superbowl:
Boston’s deal with the Devil has expired.
nj with the awesome triple slash .000/.500/.000
Gotta love it, who needs hits.
When I see Joba hit 100 on the radar gun, then I’ll believe he’s back. Now he’s still the Joba of last year, throwing 93 as a starter and 96 as a reliever. That’s what we saw tonight. The Joba of 2007 and 2008 pre-DL is still a memory.
Nice to see Mo operating at 91-93. Good sign for him. IIRC he was 89-92 late in 09.
I am here to announce that in light of Marcus Thames being an atrocious excuse for a baseball player, I actually like Brett Gardner now.
I would, however, prefer that he not uppercut everything since he, you know, has the power of my deceased hunchback Grandmother.
Has hell frozen over????
Yep. Thames has an ice cube machine.
grit is to left field inside out swing what Jete’s is to RF…
well maybe not yet
I never really liked Gardner, and I’m not high on Thames…but for a bench player or a platoon partner Thames isn’t awful. I’m guessing Cashman wants Crawford in 11, or might look to acquire a good LF to replace them and bring on Thames’ DFAing.
updates from around baseball if anyone cares:
Rays walked off against Orioles
GO MINNESOTA BEAT THE ANGELS WOOOO
The Astros have a bad offense.
The Astros have a bad team in general, “bad” isn’t just limited to the offense.
yeah, it was an understatement. They’re really terrible.
joba joba joba. goodness gracious.
The funniest thing is reading these comments after the game. No matter how smart you guys are, you always fail to remember that baseball season is 162 games. Most of you guys were ready to cut Marte and were talking like Joba was the worst pitcher in history. Let the season play out. And there’s no reason why Joba is not your 8th inning guy. DRob is good, but he’s no Joba…and ACE IS THE MAN.
You’re going to fucking nail that dissertation.
No. You’re wrong. There was only a small percentage of bridge-jumpers; the same ones that are always on the ledge.
Perhaps you mistook humor for seriousness?
Even though Burnett’s results weren’t pretty, 5 IP 1 BB, 5Ks, he had a 3/2 G/F IIRC, and really only got beat by Victor Martinez. Not an awful start all things considered, something to build on for sure.
this. Considering how he did at Fenway last year, I will take it for now.
He will get better, hey he pitched better than Lester
Things I didn’t realize: JD Drew is a right-handed thrower.
With his athleticism, I’m surprised he didn’t wind up at 3B or even SS.
Girardi was saying AJ was great. He missed a pitch to Martinez but he was ahead of the hitters…he pitched really well.
He didn’t pitch terribly, but he wasn’t great shakes out there. Mediocre is the best word for it.
Joe G has been reading up on a book about positive reinforcement.
Yeah, at first I was afraid that the mythical monster “Bad A.J.” had shown up; but he worked through it.
I’m not too worried, though; same as C.C. opening night, I just chalk it up to rust. I’m glad he didn’t implode on the mound as he was wont to do at times last season.
Girardi said AJ was great? Send Girardi down to AAA until learns some respect for the game of baseball.
/reaction if Girardi was Joba
Smart minds think alike.
Gee, where’s Rhode Island Sawx Fan tonight?
Not here? what a surprise.
Anyone play beat the streak? I picked Chone Figgins to get a hit tonight, so I’m watching some of the Mariners-A’s game, and damn Braden is pitching really well.
Earlier today, I predicted AJ’s outing:
Over/under 5 IP for AJ? I think goes six, 2 BBs, 6 H, 5 Ks.
I was close on everything, as I was off by one on everything except the Ks.
