Game 21: Almost home

By

It’s hard to believe that the Yankees are 21 games into their season and the month of April is basically over, but they’ve only played in front of their home fans six times. Considering that they’re 63-19 at home dating back to last May (including playoffs), it’ll be nice to for the Yanks to come home for six games before going back out on the road yet again.

Before they can do that though, the have to deal with Brian Matusz and the Orioles tonight. Matusz, the 4th overall pick in the 2008 draft, has been Baltimore’s best starter this year, pushing a 2.79 FIP with a 9.85 K/9 in his previous four starts. He touches 95 with the fastball, and backs it up with a slider, a curve, and a changeup, all of which can be legitimately used to put batters away. Oh, and he’s lefthanded. It’s like the quadruple whammy. I know Matusz is just 23-years-old, but the Yankees are going to have their hands full in this one.

Here’s the lineup…

Jeter, SS
Swisher, RF
Teixeira, 1B
A-Rod, 3B
Cano, 2B
Thames, DH – thank goodness he won’t be playing the field
Granderson, CF
Cervelli, C – Jorge Posada‘s knee is still bothering him, but he’s available in an emergency
Gardner, LF

And on the mound, Allen James Burnett.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm ET, and the game can be seen locally on YES or nationally on MLB Network. Enjoy.

  1. Daniel says:

some help please….do i start matusz tonight in fantasy!?

    • JobaWockeeZ says:

If you’re desperate for pitching stats go for it. I am and will.

      • Daniel says:

my stats are solid thus far this week, i i had feldman pitch today which was solid, and i have Clayton Kershaw pitching tonight. I think i might sit Matusz, i feel a big day for home runs…its been a few games since we had a barrage of homers

    • Mike Axisa says:

I am. I’m about 6 behind in K, tied in W and tied in QS. I’m behind in ERA and WHIP, but not by much. I figure it’s worth the gamble with three more days left to play after this.

  2. Jack says:

Considering that they’re 62-19 at home dating back to last May (including playoffs),

Out of curiosity, from what date forth are you counting? Because after May 7, they were 6-7 at Yankee Stadium, and they finished 65-25 last year, counting the playoffs as well. So they were 59-18 from then on, and 64-19 counting their 5-1 mark this year at home.

    • Mike Axisa says:

After May 7th, so did I miscount? It’s very possible.

      • Mike Axisa says:

So wait. They were 6-7 at home on May 8th, and finished the year at 57-24 at home. That means they went 51-17 the rest of the way. They won seven games at home in the playoffs (2 vs Twins, 3 vs Angels, 2 vs Phils), so that’s 58 wins. Add the five wins from this year, and shouldn’t it be 63?

      • Jack says:

57-24 during the regular season, 8-1 in the playoffs.

        51-17 + 8-1 = 59-18 + 5-1 = 64-19

Nevermind the fact that putting this in a real calculator wouldn’t actually work…

Anyways, all I get from that is that the Yankees went from a team that struggled to win at home to a team that pretty much never lost. That’s well over a .750 win percentage since May 15th of last year.

  3. JobaWockeeZ says:

Since my fantasy team is doing horrible I have decided to bench Granderson since he’ll face a tough lefty.

Meaning he’ll go 4-4 with a HR and 3 RBI’s with a SB as the icing.

Well anyways going to my first game this season n Saturday. They better get their first walk off.

  4. Camilo Gerardo says:

whaddya think? avoid Kay and give the network a go?

  5. First Time Poster says:

Granderson should sit tonight and Thames should get the start in CF.

  6. I saw Matusz beat the Yanks in person last season, I believe.

    Dude is good.

  7. Steve H says:

So work Matusz for about 100 pitches through 5 and destroy the pen?

  8. Tommy Fusco says:

    home? what’s/where’s that?

    Craziness: A-Jax .330!
    even crazier: he didn’t K!

    :0

ok guys, whats ur ‘predict the player’ stat of the night?

    I say Marcus: 1-4 HR 2rbis 1k

  9. whozat says:

I’m curious, RABbis. Posting exclusive content on FB drives eyeballs there…what benefit does RAB get by doing that?

  10. Matusz is pronounced “Mattis”?

    I had no idea.

    • JGS says:

The only time I ever went to Camden Yards (in the mid 90′s when the stadium was new and the Orioles were good) we were able to get 12 or so seats in the third row on the third base side at the box office shortly after first pitch

  11. Poopy Pants says:

Nick Johnson looks scary in that one YES commercial. Did they have no budget for decent lighting?

  12. WIlliam says:

Jeter batting less than 260 v lefties this year. He needs to get that up. Nice hit just now!

  13. bexarama says:

I know. I know. Teixeira is having a crappy April. CAN WE MOVE ON?

  14. JobaTheHeat62 says:

    a TEX sighting

  15. Accent Shallow says:

Hey, it’s almost as if Teixeira isn’t a bad hitter!

  16. WIlliam says:

    Yay!!!!!

  17. Hangoverologist says:

April isn’t over yet, Tex. YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO SUCK!!!111

    /mediot’d

  18. Mike Axisa says:

Three batters, three hard hit balls.

  19. WIlliam says:

    Juuuuust missed.

  20. ShuutoHeat says:

Robo Tex is on his way back to full capacity.

  21. Steve H says:

    SAM (Boston)
You seem to have an opinion on everything…usually negative. What is your opinion of UZR rating. Does it actually help win games in your view?

    Klaw
I think that is the worst question I have ever received in a chat.

Even if you don’t like KLaw, why would you ever bait him. He’s gonna outsnark you.

  22. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

    If this was Yankee Stadium…

  23. JobaWockeeZ says:

Hey Kay there is a thing called a small sample size. Learn it.

  24. WIlliam says:

    Gardner says hi Mr. Kay.

  25. Steve H says:

So good AJ, bad AJ, or the rarely seen bad AJ early and settles down (though he’s already hit his quota for the year on that)?

  26. So A.J. Burnett likes yard work and Victor Martinez (who’s not playing tonight) homered off him?

Thanks for that awesome scouting report, YES. Kudos.

  27. Oh, it’s pronounced “WEE-ters”? I thought it was pronounced “ma-TOOZ”.

  28. Accent Shallow says:

    Outs is outs.

  29. Johan Iz My Brohan says:

    Good AJ inning!

  30. Steve H says:

I’m predicting a big night from AJ. Baltimore is just a couple of hours from Philly, meaning AJ will be able to feed off of Halladay’s vibe.

  31. ShuutoHeat says:

Gardner doing his best Thames impression.

  32. Camilo Gerardo says:

damn you johnson blocking the beautiful Robinson Cano

  33. Dela G says:

man thames rapes left handed pitching

  34. WIlliam says:

I wonder if Kay realizes that a walk is just as productive as a bases empty single. Considering the amount of pitches a walk accounts for, it’s probably better.

  35. Camilo Gerardo says:

granderson has such a level swing, yet he generates so many more fly outs… Maybe there really is something wrong with his eyesight.

  36. Lex says:

How many of you guys/gals miss Damon in the two hole?
    Damon DH > Johnson DH

  37. JobaWockeeZ says:

High production caused form a high amount of luck.

  38. WIlliam says:

Gritty ab by Gardner so far!

  39. JobaWockeeZ says:

Kay your jokes about the put outs are NOT FUNNY.

    Shut up.

  40. Steve H says:

Two guys not very well liked here but a funny store nonetheless.

    http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/bl.....mlb,237594

  41. WIlliam says:

This record help by many thing is getting really annoying. He could at least change the wording.

  42. The GEICO caveman in an NHL commercial featuring the Washington Capitals… there’s a joke in there somewhere.

  43. LB says:

hate when the baseball package doesnt offer the YES feed and I have to listen to these tool Baltimore announcers

  44. Why does YES bother with scouting reports?

    Brian Matusz:

“Has both eyes, once snuck in a candy bar to the movies.”

  45. Is Kim Jones cold? Her lips are purple tonight.

    (blatant pat-baiting)

  46. AndrewYF says:

Jorge doesn’t need to bend the knee.

    Cowards Bend The Knee.

  47. Stop swinging at the first pitch, Derek!

  48. bexarama says:

it BETTER be the Rangers and White Sox because I said they’d win the division (commence laughing at bexy here)

  49. CS Yankee says:

Tampa has KC at home? No loss ground being made up tonight, ehh?

  50. Camilo Gerardo says:

    highlight reel material?

  51. LB says:

    unreal CANO

  52. Accent Shallow says:

    Sweet merciful crap, Robbie!

  53. Yankee1010 says:

    Yowzers, Robbie. Unreal

  54. Nick Markakis is Nick Sobotka. Competent, underrated and underappreciated. On the up and up.

  55. bexarama says:

So this Cano guy! Pretty good!

  56. dkidd says:

one of the best plays i’ve ever seen

    wow

  57. Steve H says:

Since almost everyone bought into the Halladay helped Burnett narrative, I’m buying into the A-Rod helped Cano narrative.

  58. Jake H says:

    That was very impressive.

  59. JobaWockeeZ says:

Actually when Jim Rice is the HoF then you are correct in another level beyond the HoF.

    What a joke.

  60. Accent Shallow says:

I did not know this about Tommie Smith

  61. First Time Poster says:

    That good, eh? Description?

  62. CNight_UP says:

where the fuck was that pitch???

  63. CNight_UP says:

Cost him 3 pitches and an out….fucker

  64. ShuutoHeat says:

I likes what AJ is bringing to the table tonight.

  65. Solid swing by Eric Davis Jr., my favorite Oriole.

  66. AndrewYF says:

What happens to Cervelli next year if the Yankees want Montero in the majors?

I can’t imagine the Yankees sending Cervelli down. The pitchers like him way too much.

Maybe they let Johnson walk and let Posada DH.

  67. LB says:

cmon lets get out of this inning

  68. Jake H says:

So Jon Heyman said that Howard was a better hitter then Teix is just crazy.

  69. bexarama says:

It actually sounds kinda noisy at Camden Yards.

  70. LB says:

    thank you a rod

  71. Camilo Gerardo says:

yea, she doesn’t measure up to Kim Jones, right….

  72. bexarama says:

A-Rod has had SUCH AWFUL LUCK this series. Smoking the ball everywhere, but does he have ANY hits?

  73. LB says:

    Robbie on fire

  74. Hangoverologist says:

    RIBBIE!!!

  75. Camilo Gerardo says:

    We are all witnesses.

  76. Dela G says:

    holy cano!!!

  77. Yankee1010 says:

Cano is playing a video game right now.

  78. BklynJT says:

    This guy is a beast!

  79. Mike Axisa says:

Robinson Cano is completely unsane right now.

  80. pat says:

Robbie is gonna show dusty what real MVP numbers should look like.

    CANO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  87. dkidd says:

a-rod to thames: spare some babip?

  88. Accent Shallow says:

Isn’t Thames supposed to hit lefties hard?

(I don’t care, it’s a line drive in the box score)

  89. First Time Poster says:

Not very many ground-ball hits/outs. Is this a tenancy for Matusz?

  90. I’m going to start calling Frankie “BABIP Cervelli”.

  91. ShuutoHeat says:

    Cerved!!

  92. Kannon965 says:

Sux to be out of town and get stuck with the Baltimore announcers on the MLB feed…”douchy” doesn’t describe it.

  93. Mike R says:

When is A-Rod gonna actually do something? I’m regretting drafting him 2nd in fantasy baseball he hasn’t got a hit this week. Clearly his power is down from last year, and I’m hoping he warms up, and fast. I can’t even start the guy if he’s gonna have a .000 batting average for a full fantasy week. The guy also can’t even get on base infront of Cano who is smoking the ball..

  94. tito says:

Who saw the new south park yesterday? It was freaking sweet lol

  95. AAAAAAAAAAAAA-AAAAAAAAAAAAAH-AH-AH-AAAAAAAAH…

  101. LB says:

  102. My man Dave Winfield still doing commercials. He’s the best.

  103. dkidd says:

reggie jackson’s world series ops: 1.212

  104. A Baltimore Chop…in Baltimore….What a coincidence.

  105. NC Yankee Fan says:

MLB Network blacked out the game here, having to watch it on Gameday. MLB Network put the Royals Rays game on.

  106. Fun Fact: HOK/Populous, who built Camden Yards, has built over half of the current stadiums in use in the big leagues.

  107. Drew says:

Woohoo. Sick birthday present, tix to May 15th vs the Twins in section 128.

  108. LB says:

    guess not

  109. bexarama says:

    People need to stop predicting A-Rod will go deep every at-bat. Predict he’ll strike out or something. ;_;

  110. dkidd says:

duke shat the bed in toronto tonight

    /setting it up on a tee’d

  111. Mike R says:

You’re right A-Rod will hit, and yes I am in fact watching every Yankee game. Yes A-Rod has hit the ball hard at people example at Tejada in Game one. He should of had the hit in the 9th to tie the game but lucky the orioles played him well. It’s just a little frustrating to see the guy flail at fastballs off the plate when Cano a younger and more immature hitter has been able to reduce his tendency to chase pitches in just one year.

  112. Yankee1010 says:

I know I shouldn’t be surprised, but Kay and Singleton are showing that they have absolutely no idea what “valuable” means.

    • First Time Poster says:

      lol

    • bexarama says:

Seriously. I love Mariano Rivera like an insane amount. But he’s completely skewed the value of relief pitching.

      • First Time Poster says:

Which is just a testament to how good Mo is… an intentional testament.

        But yeah, I agree. E.G. 2010 Twins.

      • Yankee1010 says:

I recently had an argument similar to this with some of my friends who aren’t as stat intense and seemingly too influenced by the MSM. It’s unreal that this is even up for debate. Honestly guys, Mariano is more valuable than Ruth?

I love Mo. Love him. But Posada, Jeter, Bernie, A-Rod, the multiple aces during the run, etc. have been far more valuable than Mo. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great to have him and I’m 100% confident every time he comes in, but a pitcher who pitches about 60 innings a year just CANNOT be as valuable as everyday players and aces.

      • poster says:

        Meh. He’s no Papelbon.

For Diamond Cutters, I’m Peter Gammons, ESPN.

  113. Chip says:

Good AJ makes me happy. Man, nobody can touch his fastball when he’s locating it, just sick.

  114. AJ’s spotting beautifully tonight. Only 71 pitches midway through the 5th? Daddy likes.

  115. Bob Stone says:

Let’s start a collection at RAB to bribe Kate Hudson to date A-Rod again.

  116. Dela G says:

    cano = god

  117. bexarama says:

This is like a joke at this point.

  118. Camilo Gerardo says:

first pitch swinging, we like it this year

  119. poster says:

    Fuck man. This is ridiculous.

  120. LB says:

almost put that one out too

  121. Accent Shallow says:

It’s Robbie’s world. We just live in it.

  122. Reggie C. says:

    This is becoming Pujols-esque.

  123. Really? 1st pitch fastball right down the middle? Really?

    /Seth & Amy’d

  124. AndrewYF says:

Everyone needs to develop a cutter just so they can get Cano out.

  125. First Time Poster says:

No surprised… I actually expected at least a triple.

  126. Kannon965 says:

    Unreal. Don’tcha know.

  127. Camilo Gerardo says:

lol; CC laughing with a huge lip in

  128. Brad Toughy says:

In 8 ABs, Austin Jackson and Johnny Damon saw a combined 15 pitches.

  129. Marcus Thames >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> the haters

  130. Dela G says:

    man, thames destroys lefties

this is why i pick him up and drop him when facing a lefty

  131. Drew says:

I’m getting tired of calling Cano a freak. I need to get more creative.

Woot Thames is a freak vs lefties!

  132. Chip says:

Just not fair with Cano anymore, guy is ridiculous

  133. For Lack of a More Creative Name.. Alex says:

Cano has such a beautiful swing. Every time they show a side view, I have to go back on DVR and put it into slo-mo.
    And YEA THAMES!

  134. kunaldo says:

    holy hell.

  135. Across the pond says:

Marcus is fairly ridiculous himself….well only against the lefties.

  136. AndrewYF says:

And what the hell is up with Thames?

I’m perfectly okay with him getting starts against LHP as a DH. Just someone tell Girardi not to play him in the field.

  137. JobaWockeeZ says:

Cano is the MVP SSS be damned. Show Pedroia what a real second baseman can do.

  138. Brad Toughy says:

Marcus Thames is making some people look very stupid. Given, one of those people is himself when he’s in the field, but he sure is hitting lefties.

  139. LB says:

I got nothing from Pujols today….should I trade him???

  140. mustang says:

    They should DFA Thames.

    LOL

  141. First Time Poster says:

I love the skewed batting averages. Our bottom half of the line-up is hitting like… .697.

  142. Chip says:

Anybody else think it might be time for Granderson to take a game off?

    • First Time Poster says:

Nah. He had one off a couple games ago when Johnson was riding the pine. He needs to get these AB’s.

  143. First Time Poster says:

I wish Granderson and Thames could combine into one player…

  144. Drew says:

Coming out of left field with this one but… Has anyone heard the new Shyne Po? It took some getting used to but I think I can dig it.

  145. Kid Kelly says:

Granderson a blistering 4-25 with RISP. Absolutely ugly.

  146. Bob Stone says:

TJSC – What happened to aka Ridiculous Upside. I thought you said you were bringing it back after Spring Training. It suits you so well.

  147. BklynJT says:

So is there a thought of playing Thames as a DH against lefties and bench NJ with rotation of Gardner and Swisher in the 2 hole ?

  148. mike c says:

Cervelli’s magic helmet vs. Posada’s muddy helmet, discuss

  149. Chip says:

Man, even when Brett isn’t hitting he rarely has less than a 5 pitch at-bat

  150. EB says:

Damn, Grandy juts pops out/softly flies out to Left Centre every AB which he doesnt Kvs lefties. Its painful at the moment.

  151. Mike Axisa says:

I’m actually happy the Yankees didn’t score any more there. I needed a quality start from Matusz in fantasy.

  152. AJ says:

So tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a The Mayor of the Draft, that’s three games that Nick Johnson missed with and injury and 0 for Johnny Damon. This is bet is gonna be a layup in the WNBA.

  153. Dive, you primadon…….(struck by lightning)

  154. First Time Poster says:

I love this game… but fuck you Ceasar Izturis… you are not good.

  155. Bob Stone says:

Isn’t it great to have some outfielders that can run down a long fly ball. I am liking this team more and more every day.

  156. Drew says:

Has there been retribution for JoPo yet?

  157. First Time Poster says:

Big pitch to Nick coming up here.

  158. First Time Poster says:

Who would you rather have: Matusz or Wieters?

  159. Long Legs Johnson says:

The guys on WCBS 880 just made a great point…

If the Orioles lose tonight they will be 13 games back of the Rays

Yeah… 13 games back and not even out of April

How can you even go through a whole season when your season is done in April?

  160. Chip says:

Uh oh, bad AJ is trying to make a comeback!

  161. Bob Stone says:

I am sitting in a hotel north of Boston watching the game on MLB.com, commenting on RAB and checking stats on ESPN with a brand new Dell Studio 17 and the machine is challenged. Anyone elsee have this problem. I’ve implemented a few tricks. Does someone have any other ways to max out the experience?

      • Bob Stone says:

Slow. Had to kick it out of Max HD mode to the lowest setting to get a continuous stream as well as reducing security settings to minimum. My connection is a wired 100mbps so I would expect that I could run full HD quality without interruption but it just keeps cutting out at the best quaity level.

        • JobaWockeeZ says:

Yikes the reviews have terrible things to say about it. I didn’t bother looking up the specs but I think it might be outdated. Probably not enough RAM.

          Just a hunch.

  162. LB says:

how is tejada still in baseball?

  163. bexarama says:

That gave me a bit of a heart attack off the bat.

  164. Dela G says:

  165. Camilo Gerardo says:

    jaja, Tejada flexed teh guns

  166. Accent Shallow says:

Almost had a heart attack when Tejada struck that ball.

  167. WIlliam says:

No runs, 1 walk and 2 hits through 6. Domination.

  168. Kid Kelly says:

Warning track power, Tejada! Go back to taking those “Vitamin B” shots you and Palmeiro shared.

  169. bexarama says:

How many did Matusz strike out tonight? 1? 2? 2 I think, right?

  170. Bob Stone says:

IPK had a victory today. I always liked him. I’ll keep following his career. Curious to know if Cash made the right decision on that one. Anyone else have the same doubts?

  171. Dela G says:

    good god, die wigginton

  172. bexarama says:

AJ Burnett is a pretty funny guy.

  173. Sheepmeister says:

How do the Orioles do this, Izturis is not good, Wigginton is not good, yet these are all battles.

  174. Frank Robinson is one of the most underrated players ever. Virtually nobody talks about him (at least in my non-scientific sample size circle of acquaintances.)

    • V says:

Agreed. The other bizarre one is how Joe Morgan doesn’t really seem to understand how good Joe Morgan was.

    • For Lack of a More Creative Name... Alex says:

      +160 (his career wRC+)

    • Accent Shallow says:

He’s so underrated that one of his players with the Nationals asked “Skip, you ever play in the majors?”

(Here’s how bad the Year of the Pitcher was: he slugged .176 that year!)

He was a hell of a hitter, there. Great at all facets of the game.

  175. Drew says:

Will we ever see another player manager?

  176. Will says:

Just had to stop by to say this: On MASN, Jim Palmer just referred to Cano as The Magic Wand. I dunno if he’s ever been called that before, but it really needs to stick. That is all.

  177. Robbie’s coming up. I’m already excited. FEEL THESE NIPPLES!!!!

  178. bexarama says:

    This has not been A-Rod’s road trip ;_;

  179. Hey ZZ says:

October-Rod does not care for the month of April any longer.

  180. damn yanks says:

How is our record so good, when Arod and Tiex have been pathetic at the dish?

  181. Camilo Gerardo says:

let’s see what you got, Castillo

  182. JobaWockeeZ says:

    ROBBBIIIIIIIIIII MVPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  183. Camilo Gerardo says:

    JAJAJAJAJAJA

  184. Dela G says:

    cano is on fire!!!

  185. Chip says:

It’s Cano’s world and we’re all just living in it

  186. BOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGG!!!!!

    /Jay’d

  187. Accent Shallow says:

Worst commercials are by far the Imus ones. Fuck. People listen to talk radio?

And you can’t stop Robbie, you can only hope to contain him.

  188. Fucking Robbie is DAH BEAST!!!!!

  189. Reggie C. says:

    AL PLAYER OF THE MONTH.

  190. poster says:

    Ho-lie shit.

  191. T.J. says:

    WOOOOOOOT!!!!

    RBIson is unstoppable right now.

  192. Accent Shallow says:

In other news: Marcus Thames is hitting .588, and that could certainly go up.

  193. Hangoverologist says:

    Cano is beast.

  194. Dela G says:

man, this is too easy for thames now

  195. kunaldo says:

    Jesus Melvin Montero Rivera!

  196. Hey ZZ says:

Seriously, someone went into Cano’s body and turned everything up to 99 like that insane video game character we have all created at some point.

  197. Dela G says:

wow that was lucky as hell

  198. Accent Shallow says:

Granderson had two decently hit balls tonight off LHP, but they both found gloves.

  199. craggy (formerly crapula) says:

He’d be at .500 if he wasn’t so lazy.

  200. bexarama says:

Cano has gotta be AL Player of the Month for April, no?

  201. JobaWockeeZ says:

If Cano continues he HR hitting pace, improves to .250/340/460 with RISP and walks a bit more he’ll definitely contend for MVP. He definitely deserves it because of that stupid lazy tag. And to show he’s the best second baseman int he AL.

  202. Anyone else notice Melky’s hitting about .150 and Robbies hitting .407?

I think that Robbie used to give Melky pity hits off his average by sacrificing dog-faced porn stars to the baseball gods. But now that Melky’s gone, he’s keeping all his hits for himself.

  203. Hangoverologist says:

Seeing as how this game is practically won, I took a look at the upcoming schedule for May. The Yanks’ competition:

Six game homestand against the White Sox and Baltimore
Seven game road trip against the Red Sox and Tigers
Seven game homestand against the Rays, BoSox, and Twins
Six game road trip against the Mets and Twins
Four game homestand against the Indians

Other than the BoSox and Rays, May will be total domination.

    WE.
    WILL.
    NOT.
    BE.
    STOPPED.

    • W.W.J.M.D. says:

The Tiger and Twins shouldn’t be overlooked.

      • bexarama says:

This. They’re good. Hopefully the Mets cool down too.

        • bexarama says:

(For reference’s sake, I am not scared of the Mets. Hopefully their LOB% and WHIP and stuff even out against us… if not before then.)

        • poster says:

          You know what?

I have absolutely no faith in the Mets to keep up anything close to their current level of play. None. Zero. I think they win 78 games, and I’m guessing no more than 82, and that’s a stretch. They are riding such a ridiculous wave of luck right now that I have no doubt in my mind that it will not be long before they stop playing way over their heads and become sucky again.

      • Hangoverologist says:

We only play them seven times a year, but I agree, I shouldn’t have omitted them. They’ll be tough to beat, but not intradivison tough.

    • poster says:

Other than the BoSox and Rays Especially when we play the BoSox and Rays, May will be total domination.

      FTFY

  204. JobaWockeeZ says:

Oh and I cannot wait someday the best 3-4 combo in the game with Teix and A-Rod will be replaced with Jesus-Cano.

  205. BklynJT says:

    Favorite pitcher to watch: Hughes
Favorite hitter to watch: Cano, fa sho

  206. Dela G says:

    AJ = filth

  207. LB says:

    AJ…complete game?

  208. Poopy Pants says:

One of my fantasy teams has Cano at 2B with Uggla and Kelly Johnson at UTIL (Yahoo).

  209. bexarama says:

Goooood job AJ. That last at-bat was just nasty.

  210. V says:

Serious question: if the JESUS becomes Posada, exactly, over the next 14 years… great success, no?

    • JobaWockeeZ says:

Meaning he’ll stick at catcher? Then yes I’d say so.

    • For Lack of a More Creative Name... Alex says:

Yes. Of course we dream of Jesus hitting 45 homeruns a year, and winning MVP awards, but Posada has been a top-of-the-line hitting catcher every year for a long time. There is no way that is not a success.

    • JobaTheHeat62 says:

to have 30 straight years of catching between 2 people both of which win multiple world series and average a .280 25 90 type numbers then its an epic success.

    • Drew says:

Well, the switch hitter is a big issue. If he can have no split, matter fact, regardless of the split, if his #’s line up with JoPo, it is a tremendous success out of our farm.

    • If his bat turns out to be Jorge, I’ll actually be a bit disappointed. As good a bat as Jorge is at his position, I think Jesus should have more pop. Jorge in his prime was a 20 HR/.850 OPS guy. Jesus has the skills to be a 35-40 HR 1.00 OPS guy in his prime from what I’ve read.

      • Drew says:

Man, you gotta lower them standards. As much as I’d like to believe he’s the next Manny/Miggy/hateva, I’m going to let him be him. If he has a career like Jorge from the catcher position, that’s a sick career. A tremendous success.

        • “from the catcher position”

Are we sure about that? I’m assuming he winds up as a DH, which is the general consensus and why I suspect he’ll be traded at some point for a big arm.

          • Drew says:

Ah, well that’s a different story. If he’s not a catcher, the comp to Jorge doesn’t make sense imo. That’s what I was working with.

      • JobaWockeeZ says:

I’m going to kinda agree on this one. While being Jorge is far form a failure it would be a bit tiny disappointing seeing the hype on him.

But I’d take him being Jorge no doubt.

        • Dalelama says:

I think everybody is getting way ahead of themselves. The guy hasn’t had a major league at bat yet. They said the same things about Jake Gibbs and Ron Bloomberg.

  211. For Lack of a More Creative Name... Alex says:

Cano’s swing makes me VERY excited.

  212. JobaTheHeat62 says:

i cannot believe how well the marcus thames project has went

  213. The Three Amigos says:

I know they are capable, but is anyone concerned after the heavy work load for starters last year, Girardi pushing CC and AJ into the mid 110′s this early in the year with the game in hand and a severely under worked bullpen.

    • JobaWockeeZ says:

CC’s used to it. We may not like it now but at the end of the year we’ll praise Girardi for his management.

    • mbonzo says:

Nope, if Girardi thought they were hurting he’d pull them.

    • craggy (formerly crapula) says:

I’m sure they all talk about it. I don’t think Girardi is just riding them for the sake of riding them.

    • Drew says:

You say “pushing” as if he is making them over-exert themselves. Not one pitching performance that I have seen this year had me thinking, “Damn, X is tired, he’s being over-worked.”

    • Hey ZZ says:

It seems there is a reason for it.

Girardi is making a concerted effort to gets his starters to the 110 range. Most of these games have been pretty much in hand so there is probably other motivations here.

Could be wanting to get them at full arm strength early in the season. Maybe he is trying to make 110 the new 100 and make sure these guys can give him an extra inning when it counts later in the year.

  214. craggy (formerly crapula) says:

Grit has to steal home one of these days.

  215. Stryker says:

    robinson cano is unreal.

  216. Hangoverologist says:

Trembley is going all Girardi with his bullpen.

  217. craggy (formerly crapula) says:

It’s the AJ and Robbie show. We don’t need no stinkin’ anyone else.

  218. bexarama says:

“It has been a coming out month for him.” Teehee.

  219. Camilo Gerardo says:

I wanted the CGSO!… have AJ starting

  220. bexarama says:

This guy is still on the team?

  221. Camilo Gerardo says:

    let’s go Mo or Let’s go O’s? I can’t tell

  222. For Lack of a More Creative Name... Alex says:

    2 seamer?

  223. LB says:

a little more B and you can catch up to that fastball

  224. Accent Shallow says:

Mo hits 93! (That’s 92.9, per Gameday, and >86 as it reaches the plate. Gas)

  225. Yanks win.

OK, now it’s time to root for the KC Royals to come back from an 11-1 deficit to the Rays.

  226. bexarama says:

    This game pretty much ruled.

  227. Accent Shallow says:

“Managers are going to have to stop pitching to you.”
“I don’t want that to happen.”

    Heh.

  228. WIlliam says:

If it wasn’t for Liriano, we’d have the AL hitter and pitcher of the month in the bag. Ah well, 1 out of 2 ain’t bad.

  229. Tommy Fusco says:

first time poster wins the ‘predict the player’ tonight

we were all off tonight by a bit lol
no one took the easy one in cano! lol

    First Times Jeter Line: Jeter: 3-5, 2 2B, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1K,

    Real Jeter: 2-5 1run

he had a single right, and a run scored
thats enough for the win for tonights game.

  230. texburnathia says:

this will be the first time the yankees dont have double digit losses in april since 2003

  231. AJ says:

OOOhhhhh Man it doesn’t get any better than this!!

    /Kay’d
