  1. I suspect that Jesus will get hotter as the season goes on correct?

    • Also, I just noticed Noesi’s line. That’s pretty impressive. What is Noesi’s potential upside? Any comparables in the bigs now?

      • Reggie C. says:

Noesi is 23 years old so he’s older than the opposing hitters by a couple years. He’s been in the system since Dec. ’04, so I wonder if Noesi is another failed hitter turned pitcher. Nice start indeed to the season I agree, and it’ll be interesting to see how long Noesi can keep it up as everybody expects Warren to be the first guy promoted to Trenton. Maybe Noesi is up for the challenge.

    • Stuckey says:

Montero sort of did this his first week in Trenton. Nothing impressive, picked up a hit most nights, and then he took off.

He’s just calibrating this swing. That he’s hit in every game is a good sign.

  2. Please prove me wrong, Nova.

Hope to see that headline on ESPN/MLB.com someday, though I wouldn’t mind if Noesi is replaced with Chamberlain, Hughes, Brackman, Betances, Banuelos, Stoneburner, Ramirez, Warren, Heredia, McAllister, Garcia (one last hope), etc. Noesi would be fine too.

(Btw, I would’ve said Arodys only but we don’t have him anymore, though I still think it’s worth it.

  4. Noesi definitely gets the line of the night award.

  5. KoFH says:

You guys have to break out Venditte by arm…

  6. A.D. says:

Like Russo getting some SS in

  7. A.D. says:

    3 pretty good SP performances.

  8. Stryker says:

can we really believe in ivan nova? i have my doubts (the padres of all teams sent him back..) but what i’ve been seeing here in these DOTF’s is VERY encouraging.

    • Steve H says:

      The Padres screwed up.

    • Salty Buggah says:

Well, the Padres sent him back because he struggled in ST and they knew he wouldn’t be able stick in the majors for a full year. Last year, he somewhat brokeout with a string of solid starts, though overall he wasn’t as great as some thought he was. I just want him to build on 09 and establish himself as a legit MLB-ready pitcher.

  9. Reggie C. says:

When Montero notches a 2 extra base-hit game, the watch really starts. Alot of top prospect hitters are off to starts worthy of their respective top prospect status. Montero isn’t one of ‘em.

Is it possible Montero’s conditioning has affected his hitting early on? Apparently Montero had to work extra-hard to shed excess weight this offseason. That extra conditioning he undertook could’ve worn him out a bit.

    • “Alot of top prospect hitters are off to starts worthy of their respective top prospect status. Montero isn’t one of ‘em.”

It’s been 6 games. Not even a week. I know you’re not killing the kid or anything, but even saying this much is just out of line this early in the season. The kid has played 6 games at AAA and has a hit in each of those games, along with 2 walks and 3 Ks. He has not been a disappointment so far, and nothing much can be taken from his performance so far other than that he seems to be healthy and that he’s hitting just fine.

    • rbizzler says:

Can we please not micro-analyze everything that Jesus does? The last thing that I want to see is him turn into Joba 2.0 where every single thing that he does gets parsed out to an exhaustive and nauseating degree.

If he is hitting .180 at the break and is a passed ball machine, maybe, just maybe, I will be a bit worried. Right now he is the youngest guy in the league and is riding a 6 game hitting streak. No too shabby.

  10. Nickel says:

Just wondering- Who would likely be the first call-up if the Yankees need a bullpen arm? Albaladejo? Melancon?

And I just want to say that as someone who loves going to Thunder games that I am eagerly hoping for a Venditte promotion sometime this year.

  11. Brad Toughy says:

At what point do the Yankees push Venditte up a level? I would guess that eventually they’ll have to see if he’s more than a low-level novelty act.

    • whozat says:

Yeah, there’s no reason not to push him. He’ll be 25 this year, I think. I figure a early june is as soon has he’d make it to AA, and that’s kinda unlikely. More like July. That’ll be a real test…there’s a lot of difference between A+ and AA.

  12. Kaz's Anal Fissure says:

I’m curious, still no sign of Brackman so far. Is he in extended spring purgatory training?

  13. plank says:

Jesus is going for the record of “Least Impressive Hitting Streak Ever”

  14. Nickel says:

Okay…random question- What happened to Kanekoa Texeira?

  15. RollingWave says:

So far in his minor league career, Venditte has more strike outs than total bases allowed (TB+BB)

    mind blown.

  16. Dexception32 says:

EJ at Yankee U has some interesting analysis going on Pat Venditte and his prospect status, most interestingly the pattern the Yankees have maintained with true prospects in relief. He predicts Pat is going to move up fairly quickly based on how he’s being used.

    • Dexception32 says:

But perhaps most importantly that he may no longer be a novelty act.

      • Don W says:

I’m of the opinion that a lot of folks are missing it with PV. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t see him as a top of the bullpen guy, more like a middle reliever in tight games. PV has loogey stuff as a lefty and mediocre stuff as a righthander. Not to impressive. However, put them together and factor in that the guy doesn’t have the problem that most mediocre stuff pitchers have…opposite handed hitters kill them. The guy is two middle relievers that can be used interchangeably in the same game. This saves a roster spot and that provides a great amount of flexibility and value.

  17. Stu H says:

Montero’s hitting streak has to be the most boring hitting streak ever. 6 straight games, all 1-4. Can’t complain about a lack of consistency, certainly.
