Open Thread: Another win

By

Photo Credit: Frank Franklin II, AP

The Yankees won again this afternoon, and it feels like the second half of last year all over again. The starters are pitching well and the lineup is (for the most part) clicking. Mark Teixeira is still mired in his April slump, though he did pick up an infield single today. All four of his hits this season have come on Saturday’s, which means nothing but I guess is fine open thread fodder.

Anyway, here’s your open thread for the evening. You’ve got both playoff hockey and basketball on tonight, plus the Tigers and Mariners are on MLB Network. Talk about whatever you please, just be cool.

    1) Yankees win

    2) I used my gift card for B+N so well that I stopped only because I couldn’t carry any more–and I still have money left on the card.

    Conclusion:

Life is good, and Nick Johnson is the OBP Jesus.

  • bexarama

I just got home in time to find out Texas’ starter didn’t make it past the third, A-Rod homered, and Teixeira somehow had an infield hit. Plus, NJ walked with the bases loaded cuz he’s not a real man or something. Life is good :)

    • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime (Optimovelist Primus)

      Copycat.

      • bexarama

haha your post wasn’t there when I started typing. Apologies :)

        • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime (Optimovelist Primus)

          Apology accepted.

  • Brad Toughy

Jamie Garcia a pretty nice fantasy pickup this week.

My pitching is ridiculously awesome, but my hitting could use some help.

    • http://richardiurilli.wordpress.com/ Richard Iurilli

      RAB league?

      • Brad Toughy

Yep. Picked him up and all he’s done is toss up 2 quality starts.

  • http://richardiurilli.wordpress.com/ Richard Iurilli

    Dear Jim Johnson,

    Thank you for sucking tonight.

    Sincerely,

    My fantasy team

  • Johan Iz My Brohan

CB Bucknor umping the Mets game, in which they are getting 1 hitted through 10 innings. Good stuff, I do not feel sorry for the Mets at all.

    • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime (Optimovelist Primus)

Seriously, today is kind of awesome.

      • Johan Iz My Brohan

        Yeah it is!

        • bexarama

          it totally is :)

  • radnom

    Screw “Party in the USA”.

should be Nick Johnson’s intro music.

  • http://janeheller.mlblogs.com/yank_c.jpg T-Dubs

UP on Blu Ray is amazing. Just FYI.

    • whozat

“I hid under your porch because I LOVE YOU!”

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime (Optimovelist Primus)

Biggest early season MLB surprise so far is….

    • bexarama

the team with the biggest lead in its division? Oakland

    • Jose

      Team: Oakland
      Player: Vernon Wells

    • radnom

Too early. Not even that many surprises – looking at the division leaders the only one that would really blow my mind if they were in 1st at the end of the year is Oakland. Most of the favorites are out in front of their respective divisions.

As for players – think its too early for that too. No one really stands out, maybe Cruz if he can pull a Chris Shelton and keep it up another week.

    • Brad Toughy

Nationals over .500 eleven games in might be up there. But other than some hot individual starts (Vernon Wells, Alex Gonzalez, Pudge) there hasn’t been much that’s overly surprised me.

Even the A’s are understandable because they have got some great young pitching that, if they pitch well, the A’s can contend the whole year.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Alex Cora just dove into the stands after the ball and fucked some lady up. Wow.

    • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime (Optimovelist Primus)

Holy shit, how the fuck did a Met catch that?

    • bexarama

I’m all upset because I was like “this game is gonna end on a walk-off walk cuz it’s the Mets”

    • Jose

Those are the intangibles that Alex Cora has. Alex Cora wins games.

    • Johan Iz My Brohan

That was a nice catch by Cora for the Mets…

but the Derek Jeter still 1 UP’d that with the catch for the Yankees where he dove into the stands and got a bloody nose (can’t find video to add to the effect).

Everything is better when the Yankees are involved, sorry metsies.

      • Jose

The July 1st 2004 game. Sheff playing third. Jeter diving into the stands. Game lasting thirteen innings. Manny homering in the top of the 13th and the Yankees come back. That game had everything.

        • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

          That game had everything.

          Except good pitching.

          • Brad Toughy

And a little too much Kenny Lofton.

    • Poopy Pants

I thought the dive part wasn’t necessary.

  • http://richardiurilli.wordpress.com/ Richard Iurilli

What happens to fantasy players in this delayed BOS-TB game?

Do the stats count? For yesterday or today?

    • bexarama

isn’t the new game supposed to start at 7:45? Uh, what if the ending of the other game goes later?

      • Brad Toughy

        Joe West craps himself.

      • Brad Toughy

Plus, it can’t do anything but disadvantage Boston and Tampa Bay, so I’m cool with it.

  • countryclub

Has anybody heard anything on why Jeter came out after the 7th? I assume it was just to give him a blow in a 7-0 game, but i havent seen anything one way or the other from the beat writers.

    • Brad Toughy

Just bc it was 7-0 and Ramiro Pena can’t sit on the bench all season long.

      DJ’s just fine.

  • http://richardiurilli.wordpress.com/ Richard Iurilli

Gameday and At Bat are all messed up for the Rays/Red Sox continued game. Seems to only be updating at the end of the inning.

    • Jose

Mets/Cardinals is screwed up also. Not showing path of pitch or classification, just where it ends up.

  • WIlliam

What’s the official RAB stance on the Sox-Rays game? We all hate the Sox, but the Rays are ahead of them right now, and might have the better team.

    • http://richardiurilli.wordpress.com/ Richard Iurilli

I want Brignac to do well and the two teams to bludgeon each other to death.

    • Brad Toughy

I actually don’t mind the Rays at all. I kinda like them. So for me, it’s an easy choice to root against Boston here. As long as the Yankees beat Tampa Bay, I have no problem pulling for them.

      • bexarama

this. There are some players on the Rays I dislike but I like far more and I want to see Boston just collapse this year. It’d bring me much joy.

  • Alex S

I was offered Jon Lester and Prince Fielder for Albert Pujols and Jonathan Sanchez(My players). what should i do? 10 team H2H league

    • Johan Iz My Brohan

I would do it, Fielder and Pujols could very well have similar stats, but Lester is levels above Sanchez.

    • http://stateofmlb.blogspot.com/ Hangoverologist

Keep Pujols. That’s like highway robbery there.

    • Brad Toughy

I’d hold onto Pujols. Lester will be the better fantasy bet over Sanchez, but if you can avoid Sanchez’s clunkers, he’ll rack up strikeouts for you.

  • Brad Toughy

So Jonathan Papelbon’s wife had a kid today, named Gunner.

Starting off behind because of that ridiculous name, hopefully the kid get his looks from the mother’s side. Although she’s kinda weird looking as it is.

    • http://janeheller.mlblogs.com/yank_c.jpg T-Dubs

      I think you mean “Grunter”

    • Hughesus Christo

At least he stayed with his HS sweetheart, or whatever.

  • http://stateofmlb.blogspot.com/ Hangoverologist

Lol, Mets inning ended because of a caught stealing.

  • http://richardiurilli.wordpress.com/ Richard Iurilli

Yo, Cueto, you’re killing my fantasy team.

  • WIlliam

Longoria just seriously messed up. He could have gotten a dp, now it’s bases loaded with 0 outs.

    • http://richardiurilli.wordpress.com/ Richard Iurilli

Whaaa? Gameday just updated with Zobrist flying out!

      • WIlliam

Guys on 1st and 2nd, no outs, Youk sharply gorunds to Longo, who mishandles, and insteasd of an easy dp, everyone is safe.

        • WIlliam

Now a force out at home. A ground ball saves the Rays.

          • http://richardiurilli.wordpress.com/ Richard Iurilli

Gameday just showed Pedroia’s single. This is ridiculous.

            • WIlliam

              Get MLBTV, it’s awesome!

              • WIlliam

Wow, they get out of it on a dp. That’s some clutch pitching.

              • Jose

It says on Gameday that it was an error on Bartlett. Was it him or was it actually Longoria?

            • http://richardiurilli.wordpress.com/ Richard Iurilli

Whoa. I turned on the audio just in time to hear the double play.

    • Hughesus Christo

That’s what happens when you can’t hold your liquor.

      Wait… what?

    • bexarama

see, he was just doing that to eff with ‘em ;)

  • vin

Anyone see Joe Maddon carry a glove when he went out for the pitching change? Not sure what that’s about.

    • vin

Nevermind… it must have been Zobrist’s infield glove.

They do, later in the season as the Yanks get closer to October

they do?? I must had been sleeping then. lol.

    • Alex S

it would be awesome if the Yanks made commercials like that

    • Johan Iz My Brohan

The Yankees do make commercials, sort of: CC and the Subway commercial, Jeter and the shaving commercial. Damn Yankees trying to make money by advertising with large corporations!

After watching several episodes of Torchwood and Dr. Who, I have concluded that “TV hot” women in England are less attractive than women I see on the street in the financial district of san francisco. And that the BBC seems to have only about $300 to spend on every show it makes. Per season. Seriously, Star Trek: The Next Generation had better special effects than these in 1992.

    • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime (Optimovelist Primus)

      But it’s the Doctor!!!

    • Bees

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Pujols had 811 walks in his first nine seasons. Bonds? 811.

      No joke.

      • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

However, Pujols had 679 more plate appearances.

        • http://www.facebook.com/pages/Bring-Melvin-To-America/193013541601?ref=sgm Andy In Sunny Daytona

Good luck keeping up with Bonds’ later pace.

What, no faith in Pujols’ ability to draw 232 walks at age-39?

TWO red sox losses in one night! Let’s go Rats!

  • bexarama

you know the game (Cards/Mets) has gone really long when: pitchers are pinch-running. Also I fear for John Maine’s health and want to buy him a milkshake.

    • Johan Iz My Brohan

Yeah, this is a serious health hazard for the Mets, overexposure to the field and vigorous activity definitely is not good for them.

      • bexarama

        haha.

          You weren’t lying

  • bexarama

I’ve been seeing players on other teams get their various hardware (Gold Gloves and Silver Sluggers). Do the Yankees have any sort of mini-ceremony for that?

Odds that Pujols pitches for the Cards before this game is over?

    • Brad Toughy

As cool as that would be, doesn’t he have an elbow issue on the backburner? Herd to see the Cards risk something like that against the Mets.

      • bexarama

I forgot about that. Yes, he does. So… yeah, I can’t see them risking their prized asset by having him pitch. It was mostly a joke anyway ;).

Cards pitcher getting squeezed right now, you’d think they’d expand the strike zone in the freakin’ 14th

    • bexarama

also, I didn’t know that Ortiz was up with nobody out and the bases loaded in extras and couldn’t get the run home. Heh.

Also my God every time I see him I am reminded that David Wright is so cute. Like Pettitte-level hotness. Too bad he’s a Met.

  • Hughesus Christo

    This Mets game is RIDICULOUS.

HOW THE MITRE DO YOU DOUBLESWITCH HOLLIDAY OUT OF THE GAME?

HOW DO YOU ALLOW PITCHERS TO HIT TWICE IN EXTRAS?

    • bexarama

supposedly Holliday is sick but yeah that’s ridiculous

      • YankeeJosh

So then you pinch hit for Holliday. My biggest issue is how you can have the pitcher’s spot behind Pijols. He’s as good as out of the game now. Who wouldn’t walk Pujols to face the Pitcher or a weak pinch hitter?

  • Alex S

    F the NL

  • Brad Toughy

How do you say fist pump in Japanese?

  • Johan Iz My Brohan

National League Baseball is fucking boring.

    Let’s go Ubaldooooo!

  • Pasqua

Tony LaRussa should be taken out back and shot.

What a “managerial genius.” No…you save the backup catcher, Tony. I’m sure it’ll be well-worth it.

    • YankeeJosh

How on earth do you have the Pitcher’s spot batting behind Pujols? That’s just an insanely stupid double switch.

  • Frigidevil

Ok mccarver has officially gone off the deep end. He just explained that the advantage of having runners on second and third instead of first and third is now you can steal home!?

And dear god how did they get out of that. Mets got 2 ks and walked pujols to laod the bases, the cards leave their pitcher in to hit, and he watches strike three down the middle.

    • Pasqua

Heard that too. Thought for sure I was not hearing him correctly. Holy shite.

      • Frigidevil

Some things are just so ridiculous, you can’t make them up. Kenny Albert needs to pair with mccarver more often, he contributes NOTHING to the rambling incoherence, making it that much better.

        • dkidd

i actually love how much dead air albert has allowed in this broadcast. it’s nice when announcers don’t babble on every second.

  • http://richardiurilli.wordpress.com/ Richard Iurilli

    La Russa is an idiot.

How the heck do you double switch Holliday out of the game and allow the pitcher to hit behind Pujols?

If Girardi did this, he would be chased out of New York by an angry mob. He would be lucky to escape with his life.

    • YankeeJosh

My thoughts exactly. I could maybe excuse Holliday being double switched out, but you can never put the Pitcher’s spot behind Pujols. That pretty much assures he’ll be walked for the rest of the game. Just an insanely bad move.

    • Pasqua

Notice that McCarver comments on the Cards leaving the bases loaded in 3 of the last 5 innings, but NO mention of the fact that 2 of those 3 instances saw a relief pitcher hitting instead of a bench player.

One must not question The Great LaRussa.

  • http://www.soxandpinstripes.net JGS

…and the Mets forgot who was up. well done Jerry

  • Hughesus Christo

What the hell is this now? What is the point of pinch hitting Jon Niese for Takahashi?

    • Johan Iz My Brohan

You know how scary it is watching asian pitchers run the bases?

    • Pasqua

Jerry saw Tony do it and figured it MUST be the right move. He is trying to save his job after all…

  • bexarama

It looks COOOOOOLD in Boston. Also Buchholz is awful with men on base.

    • Johan Iz My Brohan

He’s not allowed to throw to first anymore, unless the dugout calls for it.

      • bexarama

I knew that. He just looks soooo rattled every time anyone is on. I know Crawford is a steal threat, but really.

        Go Pena!!!

    • YankeeJosh

Well at least he has his many laptops to keep him warm.

  • http://mystiqueandaura.com/ pete

hokay so. Open thread I thought I’d put the question out there:

I was on FB earlier, and saw a picture of my friend at a club dancing next to a truly homely woman. He was online so, in jest, I asked him what the creature was. He got really upset about it. She’s a friend of his, apparently. Is this normal? I feel like objectively catagorizing the physical appearances of women is supposed to be an intarnishable pastime of all men. Who is more wrong?

    • http://yanksgoyard.com Andy_C_23

      You did the right thing

      • http://mystiqueandaura.com/ pete

Thank you for your words of wisdom. I feel validated

  • Brad Toughy

    Whoa. Dexter Fowler!!

  • Hughesus Christo

Oh look, here’s the one prospect in the system that they’re currently wasting as a mop-up reliever for an 80-win team.

  • bexarama

Joe Maddon and his horribly douchey ways besmirch the wonderful baseball hat with the flaps.

      PITCHING & DEFENSE!!!!!

  • http://stateofmlb.blogspot.com/ Hangoverologist

The Phillies, of all teams, are getting shut out by the Marlins.

  • Jose

So Ubaldo is at 105 pitches. He has a no hitter going. Still throwing 96-97 last innings. You leave him out there until he finishes the game or gives up a hit, right?

    • http://stateofmlb.blogspot.com/ Hangoverologist

What inning is it? If he gives up a hit, he’s out. Conserve his arm for the later part of the season.

      • Jose

Through 8 IP. He has 114 pitches. Yeah, at this point you have to leave him in there to go for the no-hitter.

    • Alex S

      leave him in

  • Hughesus Christo

Brendan Ryan: King of the F-Bombs

  • Alex S

lets see what this Mejia kids got

  • bexarama

    Brendan Ryan might cry

  • Brad Toughy

Ubaldo Jimenez never tires it seems. He’s throwing straight-up gas.

Has pitched from the stretch since about the 6th inning and has been even better.

  • ShuutoHeat

Bucholz getting lit, gotta love it.

    • bexarama

Burrell is killing the Sox today.

Also, Buchholz walked three and threw like 45 pitches in the first inning and obviously got rattled by an error behind him? TO TEH PEN!!!!!

  • WIlliam

Is there anywhere to watch the Met’s game? I can’t find it on the TV.

    • bexarama

      Fox

        Thank you.

    • KyleLitke

      Yup.

  • Brad Toughy

Jimenez leading off the top of the 9th, at 114 pitches.

    • Jose

I’m surprised MLB.com hasn’t made it free to watch yet. They usually do that.

      • Jose

They just did. Anybody can now watch it.

        • Frigidevil

Took them long enough, and I’m very dissapointed in every single sports network for not getting the feed. espn ususally gets no nos late, and huge fail for MLB network for staying on the mariners game.

  • YankeeScribe

Should Cervelli become CC’s personal catcher?

“In 12 career games working with Cervelli, Sabathia has a 2.37 E.R.A and batters have hit .180 against him. In 16 with Posada, Sabathia has a 4.47 E.R.A. and batters have hit .265.”

    • bexarama

It’s far too small of a sample size.

    • whozat

NO, NO, I CAN’T BELIEVE WE’RE EVEN HAVING THIS DISCUSSION!!

Who caught CC last april when he struggled? In a sample this uselessly small, those 5 starts would skew the whole thing. Have you controlled for the strength of the lineups he faced in those games? If not, your data doesn’t mean anything.

Also, did you watch the post-season? When CC annihilated all comers? Who caught him every time? How, after that, can you try to argue that who catches him makes a bit of difference?

  • Alex S

Wow Jimenez with 6 walks thus far. I’m glad i drafted him

  • Alex S

is there any way to watch the Rockies game right now?

  • WIlliam

A lot of good names tonight. Mets v cards, Jiminez no-hitter(as of now), rays walk-off, and of course the Yankees crushing the rangers.

    • Jose

      Agreed. Good night of baseball.

  • bexarama

      totally epic baserunning fail

First time I drafted Ubaldo was in 08. I’ve always been a fan of his. Ever since 08 I’ve drafted him every year since. I’m glad to see him succeed

    • Jose

I have a friend of a friend who met him and says he is a humble person who is a real class act. It is great when people like that succeed.

      • Alex S

yea they wouldn’t quit talking about how humble he was on the MLB.tv broadcast

      • http://www.mystiqueandaura.com Steve H

Smart too, I guess he was planning on being a Dr. if this pitching thing didn’t work out.

  • bexarama

Atlanta fans booed Jimenez? Not surprising.

    • bexarama

also, Johan with the rally cap? ADORABLE

      • Frigidevil

Why is Mccarver so hung up on Santana being in the dugout cheering for his team to win the game he started???? Does he think pitchers just pitch until they’re done and leave the ballpark?

        • bexarama

I still remember Rick Sutcliffe in Game… 4? of the 2005 Astros/Braves NLDS. It was 18 innings long and I think both teams used every player… except Andy Pettitte. Sutcliffe was totally freaking out. “WE DON’T EVEN KNOW WHERE PETTITTE IS!!!!” Then it turns out he was at home taking a nap. wtf.

This is the game that will not enddddd

          • Jack

Yes, it goes on and on, my friend.
Some people started playing it, not knowing what it was,
and they’ll continue playing it forever just because…

  • http://www.mystiqueandaura.com Steve H

    My fantasy team this week has a 1.07 ERA…..and a 1.10 WHIP

    • Jose

Heh, that is an interesting combination.

      • http://www.mystiqueandaura.com Steve H

I’ve had 3 guys all week give up runs, two are Scherzer and Frasor who I have since cut.

      • http://www.mystiqueandaura.com Steve H

Even better, I benched Sheets, who had a 0.00 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP.

I’m glad we don’t have FIP, I’m sure I wouldn’t be doing quite as well.

    • Kevin

      That’s nothing, I have a 0.534 ERA and 0.670 WHIP.

  • Alex S

Wow in all the excitement for Ubaldo I didn’t notice Nolasco’s final line. 9 INN, 5 HA, 3 BBI, 4 K, ER, W……against the Phillies

    • WIlliam

      Another great game.

  • http://www.mystiqueandaura.com Steve H

So Gardner is slugging .296, but I’d say he’s exceeding expectations so far (in a very SSS).

Can LaRussa be fired mid-game? What the fuck is this shit? Selig needs to use the best interest of baseball clause.

You kidding me? I love this type of shit happening every once in a blue moon.

      • WIlliam

        It’s hilarious¡

      • Jack

        +1

An infielder pitching to a pitcher, who gets tagged out at second by your outfielder who’s playing third? Awesome.

    • Alex S

Really? you would fire LaRussa for this type of game. Blame the Mets instead. lol

  • Brooklyn Ed

Kyle Lohse in the outfield? NO WAY…

      • Alex S

true. but the ridiculous level is going off the charts

  • WIlliam

    Weirdest game ever.

  • Frigidevil

And now this is officially the greatest game I have ever watched in any sport.

    • whitty

The last game I watched that stretched this long was Rockies – Padres, 22 innings:

      Baseball-Reference

But this takes the cake. Felipe Lopez pitching in a tie game, double-switching the pitcher behind the hitter, NO RUNS, getting thrown out at second after a fielding error, the winning run stupidly getting thrown out at home… this is AWESOME.

      • bexarama

you forgot the pitcher playing the outfield o_O

        • whitty

You know it’s a great game when the pitcher is playing in left field and it doesn’t even make the list of reasons why said game is awesome.

I think Busch Stadium fell down the rabbit hole.

  • PaulF

My fantasy starting pitchers today: Johan Santana, Tim Lincecum, James Shields, and Ubaldo Jimenez.

  • http://stateofmlb.blogspot.com/ Hangoverologist

This game is epic. I think that Lopez will be the first player to ever hit a grand slam and then get a win if the Cards have some walkoff magic. Holy shit.

    • http://richardiurilli.wordpress.com/ Richard Iurilli

I demand that my fantasy team get credit if Lopez earns the W.

  • WIlliam

A no-hitter is being shown up, wow.

  • Frigidevil

Wow Mccarver actually managed to be funny. “The cardinals need to win this now because the Mets have the record for the most runs scored in the 19th inning”

    • Alex S

yea i actually cracked up. they must have no pants on by now

  • Alex S

Ok lets start placing our bets. Over/Under on 20 innings played. I’m taking the over with The Mets winning it then somehow losing it

    • Conchobar

Under. I think it either ends right here or in the 19th.

    • Jose

haha. The Mets scoring and then K-Rod blowing it would just be the ultimate addition to this game.

      • bexarama

        THIS!!!!

      • Alex S

        Castillo dropping a popup!!?

        • WIlliam

K-rod blowing it on a Castillo dropped popup, ala 2009.

  • WIlliam

    Pujos the pitcher, pleeeeease.

    • Jose

Way too risky, not gonna happen. You’ll see every other position player pitch before they let Pujols do it.

      • WIlliam

A man can dream, can’t here?

        • Jose

It’d be cool, imagine if Pujols pitched the top of the inning then had the game winning hit. That would be epic.

  • http://www.retire21.org Mike R. – Retire 21

If this game isn’t over by the end of the 18th it will be declared a tie and to make up for it tomorrow’s game will decide home field advantage in the world series.

          • Alex S

This game can only end one way. On an intentional walk to Pujols with the bases loaded

    • Alex S

Pujols is due up 2nd this inning

      • Frigidevil

Doesn’t have to be this inning, I’m hoping for at least one more.

    • whozat

Nah. Unintentional walk-off walk to LF Kyle Lohse.

  • bexarama

    Someone please drop a game-ending pop-up

  • whitty

I fully expect the Mets to find a way to lose this game on something ridiculous like a Lohse walk-off or the pitcher screwing up the intentional walk and leaving one too close to the plate for Albert or… you get the idea.

    • Alex S

didn’t that happen a few years ago with the Orioles and another team. I’m pretty sure they were intentionally walking Miguel Tejada and the ball was in the zone and he slapped it to right for a hit

      • bexarama

        it was Miguel Cabrera

        • Alex S

yes! now i remember. I was going to write that but wasn’t sure. do you have the exact date?

          you’re right

  • WIlliam

When was the last game this long?

  • camilo Gerardo

cards’ unclutch offense aside, it is pretty sad that the mets got their only run on a position player

  • bexarama

    C’mon Kyle!!!

  • http://richardiurilli.wordpress.com/ Richard Iurilli

Why the hell was Ludwick running? Even if he was safe, they would just walk Pujols.

    • http://www.soxandpinstripes.net JGS

  • Alex S

  • http://richardiurilli.wordpress.com/ Richard Iurilli

    Go Yadier.

  • Alex S

    Dear Santa,

  • Jose

It all comes to the man who has caught 19 innings. If I was him I wouldn’t even be able to concentrate at the plate.

    • Alex S

      somehow he did….

    • whozat

If I was him I wouldn’t even be able to concentrate at physically walk up to the plate.

      Fixed that for me.

  • Jack

    Steal Home!

  • Alex S

    Dear Santa,

I know it’s not Christmas for a few more months but could you pleasssssssssssse make this game continue?

      • Alex S

I Knew you were real! I just knew it! Gee Golly!

  • camilo Gerardo

how many runs do you think the yanks would be able to score given 19 innings verse the mets or piniera-less cards?

    • Frigidevil

      97

      • whozat

NJ would be 0-0 with 12 walks by this point in the game facing this pitching.

  • Alex S

    YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you Santa!

  • whozat

    HAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA

  • http://richardiurilli.wordpress.com/ Richard Iurilli

  • danny

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHA

  • http://richardiurilli.wordpress.com/ Richard Iurilli

  • http://www.retire21.org Mike R. – Retire 21

LMAO!!!! He’s been squatting for almost 7 hours.

  • PaulF

Now that it’s tied are you guys rooting for the Mets to lose or the game to continue?

    • http://www.soxandpinstripes.net JGS

more baseball. this game is insane

      • PaulF

Yeah, me too. Although I can only listen to the Cardinal radio broadcast because of the blackout.

    • http://stateofmlb.blogspot.com/ Hangoverologist

I’ve been watching this game for seven straight hours. I want the Cards to win it.

    • Jose

Go on a little longer, I want the Cards to win.

  • Yankees #1 Fan

I just want the game to go on and on forever. It’s sooooooo entertaining

  • whozat

Yeah, Frankie, great call NOT walking Yadi to get to that chump.

  • Hughesus Christo

Meanwhile, Celtics and Heat just got into a fight on the court.

Oh, and Ubaldo Jimenez just threw a no-hitter.

Oh, and the Yankees won or something.

  • http://stateofmlb.blogspot.com/ Hangoverologist

How many people want to bet that Pujols can touch 99 MPH?

  • Rey22

What time did this game start at?

    • http://stateofmlb.blogspot.com/ Hangoverologist

      4 ET/3 CT

    • whozat

      around 4-ish eastern?

  • Brian

    SO who pitches next?

  • bexarama

Albert Pujols would strike out the side if the Mets were up against him

    • http://stateofmlb.blogspot.com/ Hangoverologist

With his 77 MPH curve and 100 MPH fastball.

      • Jose

        His outpitch is a gyroball.

        • http://stateofmlb.blogspot.com/ Hangoverologist

          Albert Pujols’ pitching scouting report:

100 MPH fastball he uses to paint the inside corners
77 MPH curveball with 14″ break
82 MPH changeup that can get the greatest hitter to look like a little girl
?? MPH gyroball that is a strike anywhere and returns to Pujols’ hand like a boomerang

          • http://www.mystiqueandaura.com Steve H

            All left-handed.

          • Marcos

Pujols’ Gyroball has been also known to not only return to his hand, but also leave the ballpark for a HR… in St. Louis’ favor of course.

  • Yankees #1 Fan

    Jason Bay.

  • Johan Iz My Brohan

Tony please use a real pitcher ok?

  • bexarama

LaRussa wants to lose this game

  • http://richardiurilli.wordpress.com/ Richard Iurilli

Mather has 32 pitches and 10 strikes.

  • http://www.mystiqueandaura.com Steve H

If Bobby V. were still managing the Mets, would he put on a mustache and pitch the 20th?

    • bexarama

this comment is amazing. And yes.

  • Yankees #1 Fan

    noooooooooooooooooo

  • http://richardiurilli.wordpress.com/ Richard Iurilli

    Joe Mather sucks.

  • Alex S

    K-rod blows it again?

    • Jose

      Probably not.

  • Rey22

Aww…it was fun while it lasted. There is only so much Tony can do to hand the game to the Mets.

  • Jose

Where is Casey Kelly when you need him? He would be able to pitch and field well.

  • http://www.mystiqueandaura.com Steve H

    Kyle Lohse has a +13.7 UZR/150

    • Jose

      haha. You’re killing me here.

  • bexarama

how many walks would the Yankees have at this time? 70852?

    • http://www.soxandpinstripes.net JGS

how many walks would the Yankees Nick Johnson have at this time? 70852?

      FTFY

    • http://stateofmlb.blogspot.com/ Hangoverologist

Nick Johnson would have 64597 of those walks.

  • Brian

Mather with the walk-off to give himself the win?

    • bexarama

      I would DIE

  • http://richardiurilli.wordpress.com/ Richard Iurilli

Felipe Lopez will hit a home run in this inning.

  • Brad Toughy

If the Cardinals can’t score, K-Rod gets the win.

    • bexarama

and Pelfrey with the save o_O

    • Alex S

another reason why wins are a stupid stat

    • http://www.soxandpinstripes.net JGS

      It’s because he’s a winner

  • http://richardiurilli.wordpress.com/ Richard Iurilli

    • whozat

did you get a hold at least?

  • Yankees #1 Fan

    Exactly!

  • http://stateofmlb.blogspot.com/ Hangoverologist

Aw, I wanted the Cards to win, but it was twenty long innings of amusing baseball.

  • Yankees #1 Fan

  • Yankees #1 Fan

  • dkidd

    • bexarama

LaRussa managed even WORSE in this particular game

  • http://richardiurilli.wordpress.com/ Richard Iurilli

What’s with the echo on the Mariner’s audio feed?

    • bexarama

Mariners announcers are the worst ever so it’s only fitting their feed is an epic fail
