Open Thread: CC goes home

By

The Yankees are in the Bay Area, so that means CC Sabathia is back in his old stomping grounds. The Yanks’ ace threw out the ceremonial first pitch before the first night game in the history of North Vallejo Little League’s Thurman Field on Monday night, which he helped rebuild. This certainly isn’t the first time Sabathia has gone back to his hometown and helped out, just Google “CC Sabathia Vallejo” and look at what comes up. He’s clearly a world class athlete that gets it.

Anyway, here’s the open thread to hold you over until tonight’s game, which starts at 10pm ET. The Cubs and Mets are back at it, plus the Phillies and Braves are on the MLB Network. You’ve also got a ton of NBA and NHL playoff action. Enjoy.

  1. I guarantee that #16 does not hit as well as Posada.

  2. Cecala says:

Is Ike Davis a super 2 now?

  3. How to spend an evening while waiting for a west coast game:

Write in Jesus Montero for the All-Star Game.

  4. Brad Toughy says:

Late night west coast games make the eventuality of your baby’s midnight escapades easier to deal with!

  5. Salty Buggah says:

It sucks Edinson Volquez got suspended for PEDS. He probably won’t win ROY now…

    • Brad Toughy says:

True. He’ll probably only get 1 or 2 votes now.

    • ARX says:

More like ‘fined for PEDs’, for all intents and purposes. And only 133k or so, at that.

      • RichYF says:

Best part is the “uproar” about how his suspension should start after he’s off the DL and not immediately which essentially turns it into a fine as you said.

The good news is, Sergio Mitre “served” a 50-game suspension in early 2009 right around when the Yanks signed him. I forget the exact time line, but it’s basically the same situation. I’m not shocked that nobody cared.

  6. I need a 1B in one of the RAB leagues. What kind of return should it take to get someone like Paul Konerko?

    • Brad Toughy says:

Depends on what the guy who has Konerko’s team looks like. And what you have available to deal.

If he can afford to deal Konerko, I’d wager a guess that his offense is decent enough and that he’ll have a fair replacement. Maybe look to deal some pitching, if that’s an area of strength.

    • 28 next year says:

      what RAB league?

  7. JobaWockeeZ says:

Rangers take an early 1-0 lead over the Sox in the first.

  8. bexarama says:

    Raul Ibanez is odd-looking

  9. JobaWockeeZ says:

Anyone check out the new SB Nation blog covering the MLB Draft? Pretty awesome.

    http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/

The talk about AJ Cole makes me hope he falls a lot.

  10. Brad Toughy says:

Should I start Ryan Sweeney or Swisher tonight for my fantasy team?

  11. That kid better hurry if she wants to meet Ortiz as a member of the Red Sox. I have no doubt that she’ll live a long life, but his future is a lot more cloudy

  12. Mike HC says:

The Red Sox tinkered with the lineup tonight. They have Drew hitting second, Pedroia third and Martinez 5th. They are obviously trying to mix it up a little bit to get kick started.

  13. Jose says:

Today is 4/20. Red Sox fans should just sit back and relax. Not worry about the team anything.

  14. Tom Zig says:

Come on Big Z. Shut the Mets down and help my fantasy team!

  15. Tom Zig says:

I’ve been thinking about this for a while now, why does Jamie Moyer still have a job?

  16. JobaWockeeZ says:

I’m being offered Mark Reynolds for Kevin Youkilis straight up. Should I do it?

  17. Al says:

I’ll be watchin the Yanks in person tonight…. I’m going to be enjoying those $4.25 beers.

  18. Jose says:

Texas is running wild on Boston. Andrus stole 2nd and 3rd. Vlad just stole a base!

  19. Drew says:

Vlad just stole a base off V-Mart and Wake.

  20. Brad Toughy says:

Vlad just stole second off Boston.

  21. bexarama says:

    Decently funny:

The Orioles preview is still probably the funniest of all.

  22. Drew the Robaht with a running catch. He still sahks.

    /Boston fan’d

  23. Little Dusty knows that he can hit the ball over that center field wall. He’s gonna keep on trying, just like that ant on the rubber tree plant.

  24. Mike Axisa says:

The Rangers have six stolen bases against the Sox tonight. It’s the third inning. Vlad even stole two. Vlad!

  25. This team is running around like they’re on coke……..wait a minute…..Ron Washington is back to his old tricks.

  26. bexarama says:

    Make it 7

    • bexarama says:

notable, yanked from another place: in less than four innings, the Rangers have scored more runs off Wakefield than they did off all the Yankee starters in the last series

  27. Why don’t they just go for force outs all night?

  28. Andrew says:

MLB 10 The Show gives me gray hairs. That is all.

  29. STOPPP

    /Molly Ringwald’d

  30. Drew says:

I’d liek to know the last time Vladdy’s line included 1 single, 1 BB and 2 SB’s.

  31. Hangoverologist says:

What channel is the Rangers-Sox game on? I must see these failures.

  32. John Oscar Dickshot, commonly known as “Ugly” Johnny Dickshot (January 24, 1910–November 4, 1997) was a Major League Baseball outfielder for the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1936-38, the New York Giants in 1939, and the Chicago White Sox from 1944-45. He won the nickname “Ugly” because of his self-proclaimed status as the “ugliest man in baseball”.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnny_Dickshot

Man, that’s just wrong. If your last name is Dickshot, you should at least be blessed with rugged good looks or some other thing that would help you with the ladies. Having an effed-up name AND being horribly ugly? That’s just unfair.

Not that I’d know anything about that.

    Sincerely,
    Kevin Pukeilis

  33. I hear that the Red Sox are gonna play “Love on the Rocks” instead of “Sweet Caroline” tonight.

    BAHAHAHAHAA

    DUCWIDT? Classic Andy.

  34. Linda McMahon is running for Senate? WTF is going on in this country?

  35. Pasqua says:

ESPN 30 for 30 documentary tonight is “Silly Little Game,” which is about the invention of rotisserie / fantasy baseball. It’s very well done – funny and interesting – and is being replayed on ESPN2 at 11:00 tonight. Thought many of you would get a kick out of it.

  36. More from the 2010 Louisiana Senate race:

The Libertarian challenger against incumbent David Vitter:

    That’s a plus-plus name.

  37. Punky Brewster hitting the ball 310 feet the opposite way. Good for him.

  38. Hangoverologist says:

The Mets announcers are talking about SSS. Progress!

  39. poster says:

Anybody who cares: Do the Devils except Brodeur look shitty or do the Devils except Brodeur look shitty? GIVE THIS MAN SOME HELP.

  40. With Cameron out 2 months, anyone think the Sox should give Jermaine Dye a look? You can live with his horrendous defense in Fenway’s LF, he’s insurance if Big Sloppy doesn’t get going and can still hit some. For a few mil?

  41. Hangoverologist says:

Ryota Igarashi has contracted Mets disease. He apparently did something to his foot and now he’s out.

  42. Reggie C. says:

Jason Taylor now rocks the green. Weird. Weirder, though only b/c I haven’t heard of any rumorings before this afternoon, are reports of Faneca, Bryan Thomas, and Shawn Ellis all available or outright candidates for release.

Mike Tannenbaum has got to cede the backcover to Jerry Reese one of these days. I’m confident in Reese’s ability to avoid drafting JPP or Iupati and land one of the fan’s faves … Spiller, McClain, or the trade down option.

  43. Poopy Pants says:

Did/will Nady get a World Series ring?

  44. Longo says:

Lowell just got put in for ortiz with men on 1st and 3rd 2 outs…big deal?

  45. Jose says:

Victor Martinez just had a pinch runner. Does that make Varitek a late-inning defensive replacement?

  46. Steve H says:

    What’s the deal with Billingsley???
