It may or may not rain heavily in Detroit, and that’s both good and bad for the Yankees. It’s good because they can use the extra day off to rest up their injured players as well as avoid giving Sergio Mitre another start, but it’s bad because they aren’t scheduled to make another trip to Detroit this season. To make this one up, they’d have to return to MoTown on a mutual off day (June 7th and Sept. 16th appear to be the only realistic options for a makeup date), which is something neither team wants to do, or they’d have to wait until the end of the season and make it up only if impacts the final standings. That doesn’t happen very often and the league hates doing it, so expect them to lose a future off day if they can’t get the game in today.

Sterling and Waldman said there weren’t any. Of course, expecting those two to be correct about anything is a fool’s errand.
There are some, but those two are the only ones that could realistically work. They have a mutual off day next week, but Detroit will be in LA then in AZ. Not going to fly home for one game while on that trip.

Yeah, exactly. Well who thought Phil Hughes was going to start out like Roy Halladay? lol. Things certainly have not gone as planned by any means…but the results are there regardless.
The 22-11 is the suprising part for me. I was expecting another 15-15 start, OMGz Yankees suck are too old headlines, then they start their run in June.
Hopefully it doesn’t differ THAT much lol. I’d still like to have that run in June and so forth

The odd thing is, he hadn’t put up a “holy shit, this fucking guy” season until 2009. 2006-2008 weren’t bad, but they weren’t quite dominant.
(His current ERA+ is 95. I hope the Yankees can push it into the 80s)

No, I haven’t. I even looked in the spam filter, and there was nothing there. If it happens again, let one of us know right away. It’s a litle hard to figure out a few hours after the fact.

In our last 19 games we’ve had 2 seperate stretches now where we’ve lost 4 out of 5 (this one’s over), that to me just doesn’t speak to good pitching.
we’ve had mitre, JV (the offense lost the game, not the pitching), hughes, and a rare CC stinker. We have the best starting rotation now with phil huge and the promising return of JV’s fastball, the best bullpen highlighted by the best setup and closer in the game

He was fine last year, he will be fine this year
Looks like his era is a lot worse this year than last. Yea, true “ace”.
It looks worse because he gave up 6 runs but, honestly, Verlander against a sub-par Yankees line-up was going to be a tough task anyway. On his game, Verlander’s probably better than CC straight up. A lot of things conspired — injuries and the weather foremost — to make this a lost series. It’s a long season. Shit happens.
I know…overall he’s still fine. I’m sure as teh summer rolls on he’ll be fine. but its always a little disheartening to see your ace give up 6. I know its unrealistic but i think we always want our ace to be unbeatable.
What happened to Zumaya’s control problems? Career 5.4 BB/9 and 1.71 K/BB before this season, 0.9 BB/9 and 12.0 K/BB this season.
