Swisher day-to-day with biceps strain

Update (11:01pm): The MRI came back negative, thankfully, and Swish is day-to-day. They’re calling it a slight sprain. I’m assuming he won’t play tomorrow, and if we don’t see him until Monday, I won’t complain.

8:33pm: It is indeed the biceps, and Swisher has been taken to the hospital for a “precautionary MRI.” The absolute last thing the Yankees need is an injury to another outfielder right now.

8:04pm: Nick Swisher was removed from tonight’s game after three innings and one at-bat for an unknown reason. He missed yesterday’s game with a sore biceps, and was shaking his arm while at-bat and in the field earlier this game. Hopefully it’s just a little sore and they’re playing it safe. We’ll update this post if we find out anything more.

    nick swisher doesn’t leave games…

  2. rek4gehrig says:

    It’s his bicep, isnt it?

  3. NYC says:

    Just great…

  4. Jon G says:

Ugh, Randy Winn. It’s never good when you’re a reject of the SF Giants non-existent offense…

I predict he’s gone by mid-season. We need better on the bench…

    • Captain Jack says:

I mean, over his career he’s been an above average defender in the corners…and an average-ish hitter. I mean, he’s a shit ton better option than Golson or who ever else…I mean who else can you sign that’s a borderline regular for the bench? Maybe if the Angels fall out of it a guy like Juan Rivera becomes an option…but as far as realistic trade options none are much better than Randy Winn. Hopefully Granderson comes back and he’ll be back on the pine.

273/.429/.409 this month in 29 AB’s. SSS, but not terrible.

    • Jon G says:

I was responding to the numerous times he’s taken the gaspipe the last few games with runners in scoring position…

      • Sweet Dick Willie says:

the numerous times he’s taken the gaspipe the last few games

Oh, so you’re looking at the big picture.

  5. JobaWockeeZ says:

I don’t even want to look at the outfield if Swish misses time.

  6. The Yankees should totally trade for Jack Cust says:

Cashman should get Jack Cust from the A’s. They’ve banished him to AAA, it shouldn’t take much to get him.

  7. EvoLuTioN says:

    slight strain in his bicep

    listed as day to day

    according to kim jones

  8. ShuutoHeat (Gardy = Thunder&Lightning) says:

Good news is that its a “strain”. I’m no physician, but there isn’t any structural damages when its a strain.

  9. Jon G says:

What do we do with the bullpen given that both lefty’s have been useless?

Marte won’t go anywhere, but when Park comes up do we see:

    1) Park up, Logan down
    2) Melancon up (for Aceves), Nova Down
    3) Mitre back to long man

I am pulling hard for Melancon to stick the next chance he gets…

    • mike c says:

marte gets some more time to get into shape, he proved his effectiveness in the postseason, so you let him try to regain form and pitch him a little more

  10. Jon G says:

Marte has been overall bad for the Yanks, except for the playoffs last year.

Maybe if he gets a strained, um, glut, we’ll see if Royce Ring can be any better.

Was Marte rusty tonight from lack of use? He was once so good — what happened?!

    • Captain Jack says:

The Marte trade was worth it for Michael Kay’s line at the ring ceremony:

“He was hurt a bit at the beginning of the year, but when he’s healthy he’s one of the best relievers in baseball. If you don’t believe me just ask Ryan Howard”

I’ve never seen a team’s announcer just totally throttle an opposing player like that.

  11. Captain Jack says:

My heart jumped when Swisher went down…from a “fan” standpoint (as in someone who actually likes the players on the team, not really concerned with who produces the most and therefore helps the team win the most) Swisher would be tougher than just about anyone not named Jeter or Rivera. Apologies for overreacting in the g/t.

  12. mike c says:

    lay off the bph swish!
