Posada ahead of schedule, able to run the bases
ByFor the first time since suffering a hairline fracture on the bottom of his foot a few weeks ago, Jorge Posada ran the bases and did sprints in the outfield today. He’s been hitting in the cage the last few days and declared himself ready to go, but Joe Girardi wasn’t as gung-ho about it, mentioning that a minor league rehab stint was a possibility. Posada is eligible to come off the disabled list tomorrow, but I suspect he won’t be activated right away just to give him more time to get up to speed.
As Will Carroll mentioned in today’s UTK column, running and hitting won’t be the problem, squatting behind the plate will. The last thing the Yanks need is to lose Posada and his (SSS) .441 wOBA to go down with a setback.

I agree the squatting will be a problem, but you can always DH Jorge, until he gets totally healthy. Adding Jorge and deleting Miranda will lengthen the lineup quite a bit.
Adding Posada and deleting Cervelli would lengthen the lineup a lot more.
Cervelli’s not going too far. It’s clear over the past three seasons that Posada has become more injury prone as he moves into his late 30s. That means Posada is going to DH a bit more.
That doesn’t change the fact that Miranda is a better hitter than Cervelli. If Posada’s healthy, he’s still gonna catch 2/3 of the time.
I actually like Miranda in the lineup. He’s Nicky J with more pop, less OBP. And working meathooks.
I’m pretty sure that meathooks wasn’t the word you were looking for.
You could make that point of any hitter that has more power and less on-base skills.
Not exactly an insightful statement.
As for meathooks…ummm…?
Meathooks. Arms. Not particularly dexterous ones at that.
Send him to Scranton, and while he’s there he can yell at Montero.
This is actually a hilarious and solid suggestion.
Midway through June, Montero will go on a mashing rampage from which there will be no survivors.
Calling it.
He should play two games at Scranton DH the first and catch the second. Bringing guys back without or with shortened rehab assignments is not good.
Unrelated: Who’s excited for NOVA NIGHT tonight?
This is how the news makes me feel:

SFW
I read a quote from Girardi that he didn’t think Posada would have to do a rehab assignment. If so, Posada maybe only days away from activation.

I think when he comes back, Posada should catch three days a week, DH three days a week, and get one off day. That allows Girardi to use a rotating DH four days a week to give ARod/Jeter/etc some rest and I think Cervelli has earned a right to start half the week. I think Posada catching everyday or almost everyday is just gonna lead to more injuries.
