Vech leads Trenton to sixth win in a row
ByUpdate (10:36pm): As an astute commenter pointed out, the Sally League transactions say that Graham Stoneburner has indeed been promoted to Tampa, while Jairo Heredia takes a step back to Charleston.
Josh Schmidt’s first foray into the Triple-A level lasted all of one day. Walt Ibarra’s back off the DL as well.
Triple-A Scranton was rained out. They’re going to play two tomorrow.
Double-A Trenton (2-1 win over New Britain) that’s their sixth win in a row
Justin Christian, LF, Austin Romine, DH & Brandon Laird, 3B: all 0 for 4, 1 K – Romine scored a run … he hasn’t caught in a few days either, I wonder what that’s about
Austin Krum, CF: 2 for 4, 1 CS
David Adams, 2B: 1 for 4, 2 K – still OPS’ing over .900
Dan Brewer, RF: 1 for 3, 1 K
Jose Gil, C & Luis Nunez, SS: both 0 for 3
Marcos Vechionacci, 1B: 2 for 3, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI – that’s his third homers of the year, he had two all last year
Jeremy Bleich: 6.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 1 HB, 8-4 GB/FB – picked a runner off first … that’s his best start since his first one of the season … he needed an outing like this, just to build some confidence
Cory Arbiso: 1.2 IP, zeroes, 2 K, 3-0 GB/FB – dude’s allowed three hits in 12.2 IP this year
Grant Duff: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, 1-2 GB/FB
High-A Tampa (6-2 loss to Fort Myers)
Jack Rye, RF & Addison Maruszak, DH: both 1 for 3 – Rye drew a walk & drove a run in … Maruszak scored a run
Walt Ibarra, LF: 0 for 3, 1 BB, 2 K
Corban Joseph, 2B & Mitch Abeita, C: both 0 for 4 – CoJo K’ed all four times, Abeita just once though
Bradley Suttle, 3B, Melky Mesa, CF & Jose Pirela, SS: all 1 for 4 – Pirela scored a run, K’ed twice & committed three errors (fielding, two throwing)
Myron Leslie, 1B: 1 for 2, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Adam Warren: 4 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 2-3 GB/FB – not sure what the short start is about, but it seems like they’re cutting back on everyone’s workload a bit this week
Phil Bartlewski: 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 1 HB, 1-2 GB/FB
Tim Norton: 2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 1-2 GB/FB
Trenton Lare: 1 IP, zeroes, 1 K, 0-1 GB/FB
Low-A Charleston had a scheduled day off.

Warren got hit around a little. DFA him! He is a bust!
Promotion for Adam Warren? Dellin Betances will be coming off the DL soon, Stoneburner has been promoted there seems to be a big starting pitching glut in Tampa.
Stoneburner promoted to Tampa; Jairo Heredia demoted to Charleston. According to MiLB transaction page:

Graham Stoneburner was promoted today from Charleston to Tampa, and Jairo Heredia was sent down from Tampa to Charleston.

It would suck if Jairo needed surgery. He hasn’t been the same since the shoulder problems last year.
No surgery. He showed up to camp last year really overweight and out of shape, so they held him back in ExST. He dealt with some shoulder soreness too.
do you think demoting him is the right move though? i would think you would try to let him work through the tough times. sending him down seems like a step backwards
I like the move. Jairo is clearly not right let him pull it together against weaker competition.
Bleich looked solid, but not special. 87-89 with FB. Touched 90 once or twice. 77-80 with curve which looked like a slider. Got a few Ks with it and a lot of grounders. I saw a few changes early, but he was strictly FB/CB from inning 3 on. We were behind home, and he looked solid, but not special. I didn’t see any 2-seamers, but I wasn’t in much of a position to tell, so it’s possible that he mixed them in. The only hard hit ball was a booming double in the 7th. He was taken out after getting an out and that run was charged to him after he was already out. Other than that, he breezed through the lineup.
Vech’s shot was on a line to deep center. It was easily the hardest hit ball of the night, but Tosoni’s double was close.
Oh, and Adams looks to be 3 years too old for the league. Everything he hit was crushed. He might have only had one hit, but he hits the ball HARD.
I was also in New Britain last night. Romine is supposedly going through a “tired” arm period hence the no catching. This was easily the best start I have seen Bleich make. Duff was wildly effective to put it nicely.
Morning Mike
If you see this, how high are you on Cory Arbiso & what are we taking ceiling wise?
Cheers
