Game 69: Ace vs. ace, redux
ByCC vs. Johan. Lefty vs. lefty. YES vs. SNY. Big brother vs. little brother. Bronx vs. Queens. Good vs. evil. North vs. South. Humanity vs. vuvuzelas. It’s all on the line today … well, maybe not. Should be a fun game though. Here’s the lineup…
1. Derek Jeter, SS
2. Nick Swisher, RF
3. Mark Teixeira, 1B
4. Alex Rodriguez, 3B
5. Robbie Cano, 2B
6. Jorge Posada, DH
7. Curtis Granderson, CF
8. Frankie Cervelli, C
9. Brett Gardner, LF
And on the mound, the best pitcher in New York, CC Sabathia.
First pitch is scheduled for 1:05pm ET, and can be seen on either YES or WPIX locally, or TBS nationally. Enjoy.

Heh, today is game 69.
Immaturity aside, I hope the Yankees shell Johan like they did last season. CC continues his reign of terror with 8 IP of one run ball.
And on the mound, the best pitcher in New York, CC Sabathia.
Somewhere, Andy Pettitte sheds a single tear.

::DFAs self::
Jesus, how did I mess that one up?
You’re commenting like a first baseman out there.
I’m online for like five seconds on Father’s Day (I am a terrible daughter) but hey hey hey. I think I’ve been pretty objective. It was stupid when Michael Kay said he’d take Andy over CC yesterday, and I’m pretty sure I said that.
Andy is however, the most *wonderful* pitcher in New York. And the universe. So there.
The meme > you
Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there. This is a special day for children everywhere to be thankful their father banged their mother.
Interesting outlook there.
LOL!!!! that has to be the greatest father’s day comment EVER!!!!!
Happy Father’s Day to all the great dads out there especially my dad.
Ken Singleton FTW!
Can you tell me what tendinitis feels for you?
I’m not sure I understand the question.
I was making a joke of your handle.
i know lol.. the wording of the question just screwed me up.. i didn’t know where to go to continue on with the joke. LOL
lol knowing how tedinitis feels like is crucial to keeping your handle
A-Rod looks out of whack and completely lost with his swing right now.
This is exactly why i’m predicting a 2 HR game from him today
wow i just woe up, and the yankees are on! yes!
woke*
those are always the best feelings upon wakening!
amen!
I would love to see CC buzz the back of Reyes’ head, trim those ugly ass locks
Michael Kay sounds very happy this afternoon.
he’s generally a pretty happy guy
If you were pulling down tail that far over your level, you’d be constantly happy, too.
So why do all the radio guys want Pagan to sit instead of Franco if/when Beltran returns? That seems to not make sense.
Don’t radio guys make livings off sounding like dumbasses?
See: Mike Francesa
Gotta love Ken Singleton.
Kay: “The Mets are good because Reyes and Wright are performing like they should be.”
Singleton: “They’re getting good pitching.”
come on CC.. we need a scoreless 1st inning here.. for the first time this series
CC looks to have his fastball command.. good sign
Porcello sent down to AAA. On the one hand, without him in the rotation last year, they probably don’t make it to game 163. On the other hand, he certainly could have used the seasoning.
man don’t tell this to francesa
LOL.. how hilarious was that last year
Unsurprising. Kid can’t miss a bat to save his life. He’s still just 21, he’ll be fine.
Not too sound too much like a sycophant, but I agree completely.
That said, I wonder how much 2009 in MLB v. 2009 in AA/AAA will affect his future development. I’d imagine it can’t hurt too much, but wtf do I know.
CC’s bad inning will be in the 5th. Yanks will be up 5-2 by then
he just had his bad inning for the day in the 1st..
Yikes, CC almost got hit with the throw to second.
And Cervelli almost takes out Sabathia.
god i love that changeup
I love Sabathia making lefties look silly.
Why is Tatis their DH when they still have Bobby Bonilla on the payroll?
my first New Yankee Stadium experience: the 15-0 sunday game last year
I was there for that game, too.
man i thought jeter hit that much better than he did
That 10 ER outing for Santana really killed his ERA this year. Not including that one outing he has a 2.01 ERA in 98.1 IP.
love Swisher’s at-bats
ruh roh, here comes the change to tex
and he threw it… and tex swung through it…
he is just lost right now. not consistent at all.
David Price vs. Josh Johnson right now
great match up
people were actually questioning on the radio whether or not Josh Johnson will (or should) make the all star team. LOL
Seriously? What more do they want out of him?
Yeah, how stupid is that. Three earned runs in his last seven starts.
Bay’s splits (wOBA/IsoP)
Home: .401, .205
Away: .308, .088
Citifield = Bandbox
so you’re telling me it’s citi field…..
[/sarcasm
cmon zz, more control please
Gardner did well in the leadoff spot yesterday. Do you think that Girardi would consider putting him in that spot with Jeter in the 2-hole? Gardner’s speed would prevent Jeter from hitting into too many double plays and at the same time, Gardner would be able to have better chances at base-stealing.
Gardner – L
Jeter – R
Teixeira – S
A-Rod – R
Cano – L
Posada – S
Granderson – L
Swisher – S
Cervelli – R
Is this a lineup you would like to see? I quite like the lineup as it is, but this could be an interesting alternative once in a while.
this would be an awesome lineup, but gardner was exposed as a 2-hole guy in may
Exposed in the lineup — or he went thru a 2-wk slump? What if that slump came in Apr or June … would you say the same thing?
That will result a whole lot of GIDPs from Jeter.
Not if Gardner is on second every time he is on first
He’s not going to steal every single time he’s on first. He’s attempted a steal 24.2% of the time this year.
Fair enough. I figure he would have to be more aggressive if he became the full-time leadoff man.
i agree.. Gardner’s much more of a SB threat than Damon was.. and i think that would reduce Jeter’s DP propensity compared to what it was with Damon there..
Barajas looked like a little leaguer during that AB. Wow.
Barajas had hit Sabathia really well in his career before that AB. He was 9-22 with 2 or 3 doubles and 3 HRs.
Hopefully, Sabathia kicks his ass from now on.
So do the Mets really not have anyone else to be a bench hitter aside from Tatis?
R.A. Dickey is hitting .375-.375-.375, that’s an upgrade over Tatis.
Alex Cora or Chris Carter–take your pick
damn that was a nice K
I hate you, BABIP
goodness that blew
I hate you, baseball.
CC has apparently brought the good shit to the table today.
epic at-bat for A-Rod there
Babe Ruth was 26 years old when he became the all-time home run leader. That guy was good at baseball.
Kelvin DeLeon will be 25 when he becomes baseball’s all time HR leader. Then he will enter his peak.
man the eric hinske effect is crazy
i expect the braves to be in the WS
The Braves have been playing so well I had to adjust my playoff brackets.
AL East – Yankees
AL Central – Tigers
AL West – Rangers
AL WC – Rays
NL East – Braves (formerly Phillies)
NL Central – Reds (formerly Cardinals)
NL West – Padres (formerly Dodgers)
NL WC – Giants
I’m sticking with my preseason picks:
Yanks, Twins, Angels, Rays (WC)
Phillies, Cards, Rockies, Braves (WC)
My AL picks remained the same, the NL was the thing that changed.
i’m sticking with those same picks
Cano’s plate discipline FTW…
what a moronic shift, regardless of the fact that he was hit
exactly.. combine that with how many pickoff throws they’ve made when Cano’s been on first.. where the hell are the Mets getting their scouting reports from?? LMFAO!
where the hell are the Mets getting their scouting reports from??
the shake shack menu?
Ouch. Hit Cano.
Fucker.
it was a breaking ball (on a full count no less).. relax
(Relaxin’)
Off-speed, but I’m sure it still stung. Hopefully it didn’t get him on a bad spot near the wrist.
here comes the change
wow he threw a fastball!
good job jorge!
this was the inning where it all started last year
LET’S GET IT STARTED!!!
Hip Hip.. JORGE!!
Surprise us and make contact vs. a lefty Grandy!!
Let’s go, Curtis. Take a walk if you have to.
/lowered expectations vs. lefty’d
0 for 12 vs. Santana.. means the odds are in OUR favor!
/gambler’s fallacy’d
dammit!
well cmon cervelli
Cervelli if i’m not mistaken got the first RBI in last year’s 15-0 game.. it came in the 2nd inning with 2 outs and runners in scoring position
at least the yanks have the pitch count up
Santana’s K’s only went up the year he first arrived in the NL
Good at bats by Granderson and Cervelli, can’t argue with that. Santana looks hittable.
damn, carlos santana just hit a nice home run against the pirates
damn just missed it
still can’t believe the Dodgers traded him for freakin’ Casey Blake.. LOL
Five extra base hits, seven walks, two strike outs in his first eight games, so not including today.
2 strikeouts???
jesus…
jason bay is like a cold sore.
Rays down 1-0
Might as well by five against JJ.
Holy shit, Kim looks awful.
i agree :/
2 days in a row
I’d still hit it, though
I think the Braves have decided that they’re just not gonna lose another game for the rest of the season.
Until the WS when they run into the Yankees.
/what I predicted in April
Look at Mariano Jr. rocking out the letter. Good for him kickin’ it old school.
Scherzer goin’ up against Arizona
Against IPK, no? Two guys essentially traded for each other.
Mo IS a rock. He’s been closing for thirteen years with not a terrible season.
David Price is just disgusting.. my goodness! straight filthy
I am unimpressed by Price.
In that, I am probably alone.
Nice quick inning. Go sit in the air conditioning, CC.
I remember in ’08, I think, the ump got hit in the mask w/a foul ball and had to be replaced. During the delay, the Yankees jogged off the field to the dugout–except for Melky; he hung out in the air conditioned bullpen. Good call, Melky. Good call.
::Inserts lazy Dominican joke here::
I thought the dugout was air conditioned as well. If not, they lie during the stadium tour.
4-0 Braves in the 1st inning already
Atlanta pen will blow it. Kawakami isn’t allowed to get a win
You know what’s ridiculous? The Braves are playing so well right now, but Kenshin Kawakami is still 0-9.
that’s really amazing.. the odds of that almost seem impossible
It’s not even like he’s having a bad year. ~4.30 ERA.
Another reason wins suck as a stat. Kawakami has a FIP and xFIP of 4.43 and 4.58 respectively.
Shit the strap to my sandal just broke.
Ugh, that sucks. Been there. I’ve splurged for high end sandals since.
rainbow sandals FTW
Confirm/deny: it’s impossible to look good wearing sandals.
I don’t wear them outside, but do wear them in my apartment (no A/C).
I have now stapled my sandals back together. I realize now just how cheap I am.
Oh you’re home? Mine broke on me in midtown a few years ago.
My sister’s once broke at Universal Studios in FL and had to buy a new pair there. They cost $19 after she used her friend’s employee discount. The new sandals broke in like a month.
i didn’t realize McCutcheon was as good as he really is.. i knew he was a beast, but geez.. i underestimated his power
Gardner’s really provin’ me (and a lot of us) wrong with the way he’s handled every-day duties. He rarely has a bad at-bat.
Rays pen is completely gassed after yesterday (they used James Shields and warmed up Wade Davis last night in extra innings). And Price is already at 60 pitches after 3 innings
Sonnanstine got the save last night after throwing 55 pitches the night before.
I would laugh if Maddon turned to Sonnanstine after throwing a combined 85 pitches in the past two nights.
that’s almost inexcusable.. seriously
there had to have been someone else available and some way to avoid using him. u gotta sacrifice the battle for the war sometimes.. that’s just insane
Price is up to 61 pitches in the fourth inning. Price is an ace in the wings and you don’t sacrifice the future of his arm for a meaningless win in June.
47 pitches for Johan with no outs in the third.
Derek has been the equivalent of A.J. Burnett of hitters this year. He’s either hot or cold. No in between game. Hopefully he can break from that.
time to capitalize this inning.. Santana looks very vulnerable right now
Makes up for A-Rod’s thing.
jeter planned that… nice
Never bunt w/Nick Swisher. Ever.
Wow.
/Matt was wrong
LOL, where did that come from?
Bunt? Can’t believe Kay even asked that question. He hates bunts. And, of course, it actually worked this time.
So, around the horn GIDP*
*not a typo
Hilariously enough, I meant to say GITP! God, I love being wrong.
Swishaaaaaaaaaaa
STOP BUNTING.
Lucky that shit worked.
That’s the one good bunt Swisher will have all year.
hahahahaha mets fail
i’m only gonna say 1 thing.. it worked..
i have no further comment about this Swisher at-bat.
Gotta love that rare Swisher push bunt
Make that: Gotta love that Tex grand slam following that rare Swisher push bunt
shit tex is up.
http://sadtrombone.com/
this would be more appropriate than sad trombone…
shit, I just ate my whole foot….
Tex >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>me
you were “off the mark” on this one
/you can’t predict baseball
/sterling’d
NICE!!!!!!
Bunting there is stupid…but Swish really couldn’t have executed more perfectly.
absolutely.. bunting is just plain retarded for a guy with 30 HR ability.. but that was as perfect as you could possibly get
TEEEEEEEEEIIIXXX!
Mea culpa!
HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!!! Welcome back to the land of the living Tex!
Black hole!
TEX MESSAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BOOM.
TEXERSLAM!!!
HOLY SHIT TEX TOOK THAT ALL THE WAY!
That was awesome.
Welcome back Tex, we missed ya!
The Teixtitcle going deep.
TEXY SLAM!!
BABIP 2, A-rod 0
IETC
what an incredible play by wright
big guy needs to start warming up. im liking it the last two days
moments like those make me forgive any negative this team produces from time to time…an amazing bunt followed by a huge Grand slam..LOVE IT!!!
Pssh. That wasn’t really that impressive. I, the Great Bam-Cito would’ve hit a 5-run homer and recorded an unassisted triple play before the next inning even started.
/1st round draft pick’d
Cito Culver speaks French…in Russian.
He’s the life of a party he’s never even been too.
ha i like that
Cito Culver can end a sentence with a preposition.
He ALSO prefers Dos Equis.
Tex coming around
must be funny for Mets pitchers to play in a park where they don’t get rewarded for making mistakes
to be fair, balls haven’t been flying out the stadium as much as they did last year
*see jason bay’s long fly ball in the 1st inning*
yes indeed.. i think a few factors for that (and there are many) are the disassembling of the old park, and Chien Ming Wang is no longer pitching at 40% health
yea Citi field is crazy…I would hate it if Yankee stadium were like that even if our pitchers never gave up HRs
Attn Baby Carlos: Even better:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JOfXc1haEoA (safe)
at least Nohan got his New Yankee Stadium ERA under 27..
Carl Crawford solo shot.. tied up 1-1 in south florida
Answer to the trivia: Jim Rice
Lol oops never mind wrong answer.
this inning is important for the yanks
must answer with a good inning
just like that a GIDP
CC likes DP!
/Kay’d
/TMI’d :p
Jeter may not have the range, but few in the game turn a smoother double play. He makes it really easy for Cano.
Cano’s got that leg kick working.
I heart Cano’s arm
silly Ike
man, throw that to ike davis over and over until he gets it that he shouldnt swing
i think the Mets have allowed the most grand slams in the majors this year.. and they’re close to the top in bases loaded walks (Ollie P FTW!)
That was Tex’s first grand slam since the one he hit off Edwar.
i’ll never forget that game
he made the score 9-8 angels, and then the yankees come back and win 10-9 i believe
After Christian got picked off and on an error or some shit. Crazy game.
indeed
i’m watching the WPIX broadcast. i’m not in the mood for Kay today
When compared to Keith Hernandez, Kay is the definitive lesser of two evils.
If you’re gonna listen to a Mets broadcast, I suggest the Howie Rose radio call. Now that guy’s a great play by play man.
conor jackson is batting 3rd in oakland
holy hell!
it’s good to know that kenny is always humble about the hall of fame
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why Ken Singleton’s a class act and Jim Rice is a jackass.
Independently, Singleton shouldn’t be in the HOF. But if you want to play the “Well, player X is in so Singleton should be in” you can do that, esp. when player X is the aforementioned Rice.
I agree totally–Singleton’s not a hall of famer, though he had a great career.
My point was more that Singleton humbly declines HoF speculation, while Rice openly lobbied for it and has used his status as a bully pulpit to judge others since the moment of his induction.
Word.
I am watching the Mets broadcast. What did Singleton do or say?
Kay said that Singleton should be in the Hall of Fame, and Singleton politely disagreed. One of those little moments that remind me how much I like Singleton (and how much I miss Jim Kaat.)
It’s that humbleness that kept him out. If he more aggressive and angry, he would be more feared and thus in the HOF.
But seriously, Ken Singleton seems like a hell of a player and a hell of a guy.
that was textbook by wright.
nice fielding
There really should not be David Wright commercials on YES.
yeah but who does his eyebrows?
hey the pitch count is at 70
now lets hope ZZ can keep on doin the same with his pitch count and keep it down
poor Kawakami…
Gardner!!!!
goodness i thought that could’ve been a homer
wow. Gardner!! Carl Crawford who!!!!!!!!!
That ball took forever to come down. Damn.
we really don’t need to sign carl crawford
completely agree
let someone else lose the picks
I hope we don’t.
The fact that that jumping catch wasn’t at the wall makes it that much more awesome.
Gardner! Great jump right there.
That was a Bobby Abreu-esque approach to the wall
Great catch though, as long as he comes down with it I’m happy.
2-1 Marlins! terrible TERRIBLE play in right field by whoever’s out there for Tampa today.. turned a single into an RBI triple
Zobrist
+3.5 UZR FTL
You mean UZR isn’t necessarily 100% accurate?
/head explodes
i voted for the griffey family
Ah, Father’s Day. Remember, lads: the best thing about children … is fathering one with your ‘mate’s wife and pretending the spawn is his.
Wisdom from Old Hoss.
good job ZZ
he’s pitching as if he could go 8
If they tack on some more runs, I wouldn’t be opposed to taking him a little earlier because of the heat. Off day tomorrow, built in rest for the bullpen.
Or maybe not, off day’s Thursday. My bad.
this has to be the best we have seen from CC this year…I think the ACE is warming up for 2010
That game against Texas in the rain was pretty sweet.
yea I guess I meant in this little pedestrian stretch he has had, He looks like himself.
this has to be the best we have seen from CC this year
Agree to disagree
tru dat
On my birthday too. I was so hoping for a no hitter as a gift but oh wells.

Ok that was totally hilarious. Well done, sir, very well done….Love Scrubs!
god job jetes
So the scouting on the Yankees is – if you have a legit pitcher, i.e. Halladay, Santana, Beckett -don’t pitch them. Instead, pull up some dude from AAA or run some soft toss throwing Moyer type.
Throw faster than 85, and we will destroy you
Psych 101 classes should use the “bad pitchers dominate the Yankees” myth to teach freshmen about confirmation bias.
Please don’t put Beckett in a triplet of Halladay and Santana. Please.
damn johan, that was filth
Wow, Kay really knows how to grind that axe. Mentioned all the thing he’s looking forward too in the Dodgers series, basically everything but Torre.
I’m going to be away during that Dodgers series.
dang, i thought that ball 4 was strike 1, but ill take it
Heh, Atlanta blew the lead.
Why does it seem like every 3-0 they swing at they fail miserably? Sigh.
they usually do.
‘Cause they all think they can do what Swisher did that one time in Seattle last season.
swinging at 3-0????
bad idea, joe…
Why the fuck is he swinging…. C’mon ARod…
i’m pretty sure joe g called for that
because he has 590 HR’s in his career and we’re hoping that he can still hit an 89 mph fastball hard that’s right down the middle of the plate
good lord A-Rod………….
Eeesh.
Damnit A-rod!
Damn, the luck is just not with Alex today
“God put the lights on”
Once again, creepy Kay is creepy.
Even if he’s not walking, Cano puts up some good at bats.
oh well, at least the pitch count is up to 93!
4-1 Marlins!
No matter how poor we’ve played recently, the Rays have played even worse.
Francoeur to Pagan: “Can you believe they’re gonna play me over you when Beltran returns?”
Francoeur to Pagan: “Can you believe they put OBP on the scoreboard?”
I lol’d….. a lot.
What are these outs Cano are making?
Cano started off hot this year so he could slack off for the rest of the year. Luckily the Yanks play the Dodgers soon, so Bowa can get on his ass.
marlins up 4-1 on the rays
Kay, you’re an idiot.
I muted it. What did he say?
I assume it has to do with:
http://twitter.com/yesmichaelk.....6636994847
Le sigh
CC’s 28-6 after the ASB in the last few years or something. I think.
I was more annoyed at. “Oh, well his ERA is higher than this point last year, but he has one more win and one less loss, so he’s actually doing better!”
HAHAHAHAH!!!
unbelievable.. did he really say that?
You can’t make this stuff up.
Wow, that was totally a ball. Good frame job, Frankie.
a-rod defense FTW
Alex’s groin is fine.
Kate Hudson can attest to that.
Nice Job A-rod, now let your deffensive play momentumize* you into another 35 homer season.
*may not be a real word
It’s a perfectly cromulent word.
hahahahahahaha kay
“it’s really hard to give yourself a birthday present. I’ve tried, but it’d really hard”
it’s*
Way to work the pc Mets.
what a play by pagan
Met’s, this is the guy you’re taking out?
Maybe it’s because I’ve only really watched Pagan during this hot streak of his, but this guy seems like he can play.
Oh, he’s firmly ahead Francuer, he should be a starter.
Shocker, Maine had a setback
chip clip night??
lol that sucks
It’s actually pretty useful. Better than most of the crap they give away.
ha true dat
The ws replica ring I have is pretty fucking awesome.
no fair! Me and my friend tried getting one of those. But they said you had to be 14 or younger. We tried telling them that we were, but they didnt quite believe us lol.
15 is close enough for me. Just had to shave before the game.
John Mayer’s brother looks exactly like John Mayer.
not a bad guy to look like
Would you want to pretend to be your brother to meet girls? God knows I wouldn’t.
Frankie!
Cerved!
That was a truly epic at bat.
fucking hilarious
the Pride of Venezuela….
Cervelli with his third triple.
That was also awesome. Great AB and then a triple. Cerved, indeed.
what’s with all the NHL goal songs playing at the stadium?
Kay forgot to mention K-Fraud when it comes to the celebration overload..
i personally don’t care either way.. but if the Mets are seriously gonna complain about Cervelli?? what a joke
great inning by the yanks, even though no runs scored
Damon would have gotten three rbi’s in that situation.
we’ve had a ton of guys on base in this game.. i wouldn’t be inclined to say that “Santana’s only made 1 mistake” in this game
wow talk about lucky
Does Cervelli switch helmets once he’s on base?
I’m pretty sure during his AB he was wearing the big gazoo helmet, but when they showed him crossing home after Gardner’s grounder, i’m pretty sure he was wearing the normal helmet… weird
yes he does
It’s effed up, but I’m gonna laugh when he gets hit in the head by a thrown baseball while on the basepaths wearing the smaller helmet.
Frank-Vitchard-style. THIS IS GETTIN’ RI-GOD-DAMN-DICULOUS!!!
I’m all for him wearing the big helmet, but i think that he should have to wear it while on base also if he makes the decision to wear it while hitting. Otherwise the bat/ballboy has to bring it out to the base he’s on, just doesn’t seem right.
Not a major thing at all, and in the grand scheme of things, it means absolutely nothing. Just a thought
I feel like they do that anyway to retrieve batting gloves
I thought usually the 1B/3B coach usually just held onto them? Maybe not.
Otherwise the bat/ballboy has to bring it out to the base he’s on, just doesn’t seem right.
Ambrose, you’re big. Don’t be afraid to throw the elbow. If you break someone’s collar bone, that’s a good thing, that’s what the medic’s for. Otherwise he’s just sittin’ around. All right! You hear me!
Josh Johnson.. dealing… what a monster
the most underrated pitcher in baseball

It won’t be. Any comedic abilities possessed by Msrrs. Rock, Sandler, and James will be totally undermined and ruined by the perpetually unfunny David Spade and Rob Schneider.
The only two good parts of that movie will be Salma Hayek.
GIDCC.

wow, i’m happy that the yanks turned two but there’s no excuse for tatis not beating the throw there. robbie had nothing on it.
Sabathia >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>mets
i approve this message
Josh Johnson’s through 8 innings.. up 4-1 on Tampa.. this could be that magical day when we’re in 1st place dolo
At least Tatis will always have his two grand slams in one inning to keep him warm.
Hey, they were off Chan Ho Park! Man, he sucks.
I love it when CC goes into beast mode at this time of the season.
Talk about wasting a prospect.
(looks up from copy of Lincoln Journal-Star)
Huh? What? What were you guys just talking about?
/Joba’d
To be fair, they’re planning to Hughes him. but you have to be scared of Jobafying him.
if he becomes too good, Francesa will force them to keep him in the 8th inning as the heir apparent to K-Rod
i love how kay mentions the precedent of hughes succeeding as a starter after pitching in the pen, but “forgets” joba.
Well. Joba did have sucess, but he was shut down anyway. Here’s hoping he starts next year!
i love singleton’s reaction to mejia being compared to mo
“…ok…”
I had the same reaction.
Mets, didn’t you learn anything from Joba?
All I learned from Joba is that shoulder injuries are a bitch.
Well, that, and the media won’t stop rooting for the story.
Hopefully, I’m wrong and the Yankees start him next year. Please Yankees?
cosigned
Tex last few days have looked better
but we’ve been here before where he’s looked good for a few days at the plate, and then slides back into a 3 for 23
oh well, at least the game is movin right along
even for me, joe west jokes have become too easy
Does Tex have an encore HR in him?
Guess not.
Leo Nunez.. 1 down.. 2 to go in the 9th
i know alotta guys are in love with UZR, but i’ve seen NOTHING at all that coincides with all the horror stories we heard about from Detroit about Granderson’s CF defense
…i’ve seen NOTHING at all that coincides with all the horror stories we heard about from Detroit about Granderson’s CF defense
Neither did UZR.
well i never checked, but i thought i remember hearing that his numbers were down somewhere..
either way, Leyland and the whole Tiger organization was reacting like they were fed up with his play in the field as if it was terribly, horrifyingly bad
well i never checked
Aren’t you a funny guy.
Pavano shuttin down the Phils in Citizens Bank.. just 1 run allowed through 7.1

hahahaha jose reyes swingin through like a lunatic
Rays lose!
had both Price and Johnson on my fantasy team starting. couldnt have asked for a better result.
Rays lose!
Does CC come out for the ninth?
do the yanks have any more games against the twins? i’d love to beat the ever-living daylights out of carl pavano
No. I’d like for Jeter to hit a line drive up the middle and burn off Pavano’s mustache.
Maybe in the play-offs
holy crap are you serious??
a rain delay?
gimme a break
it is a thunderstorm.
hey, you’re back…
ha… I am not a regular poster.
rain delay? It’s clear up here in Westchester
Same down here in Central NJ.
I disagree Kay, the Blue Jays are most definitely going to go away.
They should just call the game. It would give CC his third CG on the year.
yeah… it would save our time…lol
man did anyone see carl pavano’s mustache? took it from a screenshot using mlb.tv
http://i49.tinypic.com/f0521c.jpg
Pavano is no Donnie Baseball.
Co-sign the shit out of this
It suits him. In a douche bag sort of way.
there goes CC’s shutout.. it’s all good.. shutout in my eyes
heh? the so is still on.
about all star game to favor the home advantage for World Series, I think it should be dropped. I think a league that wins the most interleague games will be awarded the home advantage in WS. If tied, league swiches from last year’s home advantage team. Good idea?
I think it should just be whichever team has the better record gets home-field advantage. What way is more fair than that?
not enough interleague games to justify the best record in the MLB.
I meant that of the two teams in the World Series whichever has the better record gets home-field.
What happens if the teams have the same record or if a team has an unmade-up rain out and end up a 1/2 game back?
Good point. If either of those situations were the case, there could be a backup method. Maybe they could do whoever wins the All-Star game or interleague records if there’s a tie. If a team is a 1/2 game back then they are just screwed I guess. I just think it’s BS to use an exhibition game to decide the fate of home-field advantage in the WS.
If the two teams have the same record, then you go by play-off record. And if that’s the same as well (very unlikely situation), I suppose you can use the All-Star game as the tie breaker. At least that lessens the significance by a ton
An unmade-up game can help or hurt their record, so if they fall off by one game, that’s just too bad for them.
What happens if the teams have the same record
Then there’s a tiebreaker system of some sort, probably involving divisional/league/interleague W/L records or head-to-head (in the event that the teams actually played each other that season). I bet this is far less common than you think it would be, though. The NBA has simple home-court advantage for the NBA Finals, and I can’t remember an instance where both Eastern and Western Conference champions had identical final records.
…or if a team has an unmade-up rain out and end up a 1/2 game back?
Then they end up a half-game back and don’t have home field. Tough titties, that’s the way the cookie crumbles. Perhaps if this scenario presented itself, the teams would insist on making up the rainout, and everyone wins.
ever since the “Chipper considering retirement” story, Chipper just started raking.. LOL.. he just stole 3rd after tying the game with an RBI double with 1 out
they calling the game?
pavano beats halladay and the phils with a complete game 4 hitter (1 ER)
wow
:head explodes:
yay the game is back on
Uch, A-rod!
Robby hits a homerun in the second deck. I’m calling it.
Oh noes, I’m wrong
Send CC in!!!
am i still allowed to be upset over how our offense has performed today with so many runners left on base?
/spoiled
lol.. i know i know.. i just would’ve loved to rub it in the Mets that much worse
i hope you’re alright a-rod
i’m doin’ ok.. just gettin a bit of a rest… gotta long flight
The Yankees are now sitting pretty at the top of the AL East.
with that out by david wright, mo has retired 21 consecutive batters. that is the longest such streak in his career
yankees win!
First place.
Gotta keep the Rays at bay.
Lol@Mets
Thanks for a great first Father’s Day, Tex, CC, and Mo.
Happy Fathers Day TSJC!
This is your first I believe.
Indeed, and thanks.
+1
I just got home to see – the Yankees won this game? That’s impossible. On Friday, everyone told me they’d never beat a good team.
The Mets are a good team?
/jk
Haha I knew that was gonna be SOMEONE’S comment.
They won back all the good will they lost against the Phillies!
Tex hit grandslam, CC shut the Mets down for 8 innings
And that’s the game
sole possession of first place sounds great
Order restored…alone in 1st
Mariano might be having one of his best seasons…25 IP 9 Hits…Crazy good!
Time to pull out those articles about how it might be over for Mo? Nah, too early.
His WHIP is currently 0.600, which, yes, would be the lowest of his career. He probably won’t sustain that, though.
FWIW, his 2008 WHIP of 0.665 was his lowest full-season mark.
2008 was ridiculous.
Mo put up a 1.40/2.03/2.32 E/F/x, had only one blown save all year long, and had a 77/6 K/BB ratio.
In 2008, the three lowest raw OPS amongst qualified batters belonged to:
Bobby Crosby – .237/.296/.349 (.645)
Willy Taveras – .251/.308/.296 (.604)
Michael Bourn – .229/.288/.300 (.588)
Mo’s raw OPS allowed? .165/.190/.233 (.423).
Thaaaat’s not real. You made that up.
Seriously. Mariano Rivera. Pretty good.
Thus far in 2010: .117/.190/.208 (.398)
