Cano, Jeter named All Star starters

Robbie Cano and Derek Jeter were named the AL’s starting middle infield for this year’s All Star Game in Anaheim. The rest of the AL starting nine consists of Joe Mauer, Justin Morneau, Evan Longoria, Ichiro, Josh Hamilton, Carl Crawford, and Vlad Guerrero. Can’t say I disagree with any of those picks.

CC Sabathia, Phil Hughes, and Mariano Rivera were named to the AL pitching staff. Sabathia lines up to start the Sunday before the All Star Game, which makes him ineligible to pitch in it according to the new rules. He’ll be replaced on the roster, and it could be by Andy Pettitte. Francisco Liriano and Jered Weaver are certainly deserving of that spot, though.

Alex Rodriguez was named as a reserve, and Nick Swisher is on the Final Vote Ballot. Let’s get that man to Anaheim!

  4. VO says:

    Obviously Mariano

  5. JGS says:

“Cliff Lee is a control type in some ways”

Some ways? The guy has 5 walks all year. 5!

  6. Vinny the Bull says:

So Andy will replace CC, yes?

  7. JGS says:

Way too many relievers–did Liriano really not make it?

  8. JobaWockeeZ says:

I disagree with Ichiro but since he’s a brand name he’l always get in.

  9. Kiersten says:

Usually the fans aren’t so good at this, but I think they did a damn good job this year, with the exception of Ichiro, but he always gets it.

  10. bexarama says:

    Where’s Pettitte. >:(

  11. Vinny the Bull says:

    Time to get Swish in.

  12. JGS says:

There are 12 players in the majors currently wOBAing over .400. Four of them–Youkilis, Votto, Willingham, and Konerko–did not make their respective All-Star teams. That is just wrong.

  13. Frigidevil says:

Just voted like 30 times for Swisher and Votto, because that’s an inexcusable snub

  14. Joe says:

    so did I lol

  15. jesse says:

Remember what the Phillies and Tigers fans did last year? What if we could do that with the Reds fans, just to make sure Swish + Votto get in?
