Game 100: And on the 100th game, it rained

By

That photo came courtesy of Mark Feinsand about 20 minutes ago, and you can see the Yankees scattering off the field after batting practice while the grounds crew runs out to get the tarp on the field. The AccuWeather guy said during the pregame show that the game is likely to be delayed for an hour so, but there’s enough of a window to play tonight.

It also rained during A.J. Burnett‘s last start, when he held the Royals scoreless through five innings before getting washed out. Both Sergio Mitre and Chad Gaudin are available at length tonight, though I’m sure Joe Girardi doesn’t want to use both guys tonight with Dustin Moseley starting tomorrow. Thankfully the Indians are throwing Fausto Carmona tonight and not some rookie no one’s ever heard of. The Yanks have actually seen this guy before.

Here’s the lineup, which features a somewhat less-achy Jorge Posada

Jeter, SS
Swisher, RF
Teixeira, 1B
A-Rod, 3B
Cano, 2B
Posada, DH
Granderson, CF
Cervelli, C
Gardner, LF

And on the bump, it’s A.J. Burnett.

In case you haven’t heard, the Indians traded Jhonny Peralta to the Tigers within the last few minutes, so he won’t be around to make four outs on six pitches tonight. For shame. Whenever the game starts, you can watch on YES. In the interim, the Mets and Cardinals are on ESPN (and SNY, of course). Enjoy the game, hopefully it starts soon enough.

Update 7:10 p.m.: The Indians say first pitch is now schedule for 7:40 p.m.

  4. baby carlos says:

Saw today that Soria from KC also had the Red Sox, Cardinals, Cubs, Phillies, Tigers on his no trade list.

Even as bad as the Cubs are this year, it would seem this guy is afraid of the spotlight…. Must be why he is still in KC.

    • Mike Axisa says:

Those teams are on his NTC because he could get the most money out of them when they try to convince him to waive it.

      • Steve O. says:

        This.

        • Snakes on the mother elfin temple of doom says:

He has bonus $ tied to # of games completed I believe. So any team with an established closer would be a situation in which he’d be less likely to get that bonus.

Yes, this is just another reason to try to extract more $ from any landing spot. But I thought it interesting.

    • Steve O. says:

Heard this: Soria and Greinke for a package started by Chamberlain, Montero, Romine, Banuelos, McAllister, Nova, Noesi, Nuñez, Sanchez, Heathcott, Murphy, and Ramirez.

      /Olney’d

      • Pat D says:

Why does everyone seem to pick on Buster? Just because he says “heard this?” Wow, so a little humility and telling people that’s what he’s “heard” instead of pretending he’s the Great and All-Powerful Oz and knows everything?

Be glad he’s not such a blatant homer like Stark. Or a wooden robot like Rosenthal.

  5. ZZ says:

For your enjoyment. Joba’s first ever relief appearance.

    Do you recognize this man?

    • Accent Shallow says:

The slider in the video seems to have more horizontal break. It is nice to see v.2007 Relief Joba throwing 94-95 at times, though.

  6. I wonder if Kay brought up the HGH stuff during the interview.

    • Pat D says:

      Something tells me no.

    • NYY626 says:

He did. There’s an interview on the YES Website

      • bexarama says:

Pettitte pretty much brought it up himself.

        • Kit says:

Yeah. It doesn’t look like he really shies away from it. I think Kay once mentioned the fact that Andy is pretty honest in regards to whether he has a place or not in the HOF, knowing that the steroids scandal will definitely hurt him despite his numbers. I respect him more for that.

          • bexarama says:

            http://web.yesnetwork.com/news.....038;vkey=4

you can see his comments about HGH and whatnot there. To be honest, I don’t know if I can really believe him about him just using it those two times, especially because he wasn’t honest the first time around. But I do appreciate his honesty at least now that he’s been found out.

            • bexarama says:

Also I don’t think Pettitte is a HOFer even without the HGH stuff. I can see him getting voted in, though. I think he has more of a chance than Posada, which I find very sad.

              • Kit says:

I think he’ll get voted in as well. Maybe not the first time around, but eventually. And you’re right, he wasn’t honest about it the first time, which I forgot about completely, and I don’t believe the “only once or twice” thing either. I’m just a little more inclined to accept Andy admitting his use and respect him for it because I’m still disgusted by Ortiz insinuating that someone set him up or something while talking to Sean Farnham on FOX sports radio.

                • bexarama says:

Totally agreed all around. Even if I don’t completely believe Andy, at least he admitted to something. That is more than Ortiz can say, that whole thing was just bullshit.

  7. Total Dominication says:

Do people agree with the fangraphs thing about the best and worst trade chips that a-rod is the most un-tradeable (bad) player in baseball with his contract? I don’t know, I much prefer having him then Wells or Soriano.

    • Not Tank the Frank says:

I agree with it completely. They’re not trying to say he’s a “bad” player. But he is absolutely THE most untradeable player in baseball. Without a doubt.

      • Chris says:

A-Rod has $174M left on his contract. Wells has $86M. I’m confident that A-Rod will be significantly more than twice as valuable as Wells over the remainder of the contract.

Heck, just the attendance increase while he’s chasing the home run record will bring the relative values of their deals closer together.

  8. Accent Shallow says:

Days like this make me wish all MLB stadiums were domes. Then I remember how much I hate artificial turf, and 80s-style baseball.

    Argh.

  9. So to those here who did/do play ball, did you ever/do you play for your dad? My dad was never one of my coaches and I’m pretty glad about that, actually. I don’t think I’d want to coach my son if/when I have one.

    • Pat D says:

My dad was an assistant on a couple of my teams, but never the head coach.

    • Steve H says:

I never played for my dad, but he was an umpire for about a million of my games. To make sure he wasn’t showing any favoritism he went the other way and totally screwed me both pitching and hitting.

    • Sweet Dick Willie says:

My Dad never coached a team I played for, but I coached all 3 of my sons. I enjoyed it immensely. Can’t say for sure they feel the same, but for me, it was a great 10 years.

    • esteban says:

Not only was my dad my manager most of the time, he was the league president. I enjoyed it definitely. Less pressure

    • Ed says:

My dad never coached, so I can’t comment on that aspect. However, most of the teams in my Little League had dads as managers. I was usually on a team where the manager had a son. The son and his best friends always pitched and got their choice of positions. Those years, I usually got thrown in the outfield and put in the bottom third of the lineup. The one year I had a coach who didn’t have a kid, I would play half the game at SS and pitched the other half. Split the year between the 2 and 3 spots in the batting order. I’m sure you can guess how I felt about having a teammate’s dad coach the team.

    • hogsmog says:

My dad probably coached 4 or 5 seasons for me, as well as a couple for my brother. He was very fair in my opinion, and cared more about playing kids where they wanted to play than winning. He didn’t treat me or my friends any better than the rest of the guys; he actually took the position because he was annoyed with favoritism all around. Now that I look back, I realize how good of a coach he was- not playing favorites with your kid while simultaneously not overcompensating and being too tough in order to look like you aren’t playing favorites would be very difficult.

    • Hey Bexy, did you get my e-mail? I’m doing a ‘bloggers weigh in’ piece on Joba featuring short summaries from a variety of people. The question being asked is “What’s your next move with Joba?” 1)Trade him 2)demote him 3)stay the course?

If you want, just reply here. I’ll copy it and add it to my piece and credit it to you with a link back to YCPB. If not, that’s cool also. Your call.

      • bexarama says:

        I rarely check the YCPB e-mail so I didn’t :X

Um, I say trade him if it’s for the right piece, especially if they want to keep him a reliever. Otherwise, I want to send him down to the minors (like, the low minors) to work on everything, but I’ve basically given up on that happening. Basically, I’m pretty tired of talking about Joba, to be honest. It just bums me out. =/

  11. You know what would fucking SUCK? If A-Rod hit his HR and the game got called before the fifth.

    • Angelo says:

      Don’t f#@*%^ jinx it!

      I’m watching you Matt!!!!

    • Steve O. says:

I think it would be cool. Because they would probably make it up on off days that both the Indians and the Yankees share an off day which would be September 9th. So he would technically hit 600 after he hit several more homeruns.

      It would be awesome.

  12. Wow, that Delmon Young HR was DEEP.

  13. Pat D says:

Here’s a rain delay question: Has anyone (everyone?) here read Olney’s “The Last Night of the Yankee Dyanasty?” If so, does anyone ever think it could work as a movie or miniseres, like “The Bronx Is Burning?”

    • Mike Axisa says:

I read it a few years ago, enjoyed it. Not sure if it’d work as a movie though.

    • bexarama says:

I read it, liked it (except for the ending which made me want to stab myself). Wouldn’t work as a movie. Birth of a Dynasty might work better as a movie though. Buuttt… did they already do that with Joe Torre: Curveballs Along the Way????

      http://www.dailymotion.com/vid.....re-cur_fun
(SFW, absolute must-watch, you will never stop laughing)

      • Pat D says:

Of course the ending sucked. Still the worst night of my life.

I don’t think it would work as a movie, either, or even a miniseries, if you followed it the way it was written. The flashbacks and everything. If they tried to tell it in a linear style, maybe, but then the book is nothing more than source for lines of dialogue and stuff.

      • Kit says:

        Wow. That is really terrible.

  15. Accent Shallow says:

    Oh, Carmona’s pitching tonight?

    I hate that guy.

  16. Mike, I thought you raised a very interesting point about Joba. That his confidence is likely shot, a demotion to AAA wont help his confidence and could even make it worse.

I agree that you run that risk, but isn’t his lack of confidence related to his poor performances? If he starts blowing away hitters again, maybe he ‘finds’ whatever has been missing the past two years. Also, anyone who would be destroyed by a demotion to AAA doesn’t have not what it takes to succeed at the highest level. I hate blaming organizations when a players own makeup is (I think) the prevailing factor. Guys who get crushed by a demotion would have eventually been crushed by something else in the bigs, and the good ones find their way back.

    • That his confidence is likely shot, a demotion to AAA wont help his confidence and could even make it worse.

Here’s how you demote Joba without making it a hit to his confidence:

Tell him “We still have faith in you and want you to be a starter for us. We’re sending you down to give you the chance to stretch yourself back out and build up your innings and stamina and work on mechanics and secondary pitches. The things you need to work on can’t be worked on here in the bullpen, so the minors is the best and only environment that works.

You’ll be back up here soon, in the rotation, if you work hard. We believe in you.

  17. bexarama says:

Sweet start for Santana tonight :(

  18. Brooklyn Ed says:

Heard on ESPN radio that the Yankees are the front runners for Adam Dunn.

Take that for what it’s worth

  19. Nice hustle, Tex! Thought he was dead, haha.

  20. forensicnucchem says:

    Atta boy Tex!

    Let’s go A-Rod.

  21. Accent Shallow says:

Most AB between home run #599 and 600? What a choker!

/storyline is never going away, is it?

    • forensicnucchem says:

      Nope, it’ll take him 150 AB’s to go from 699 to 700…

And then 700 will be an inside the park homer.

  22. That’ll do, Alex.

  23. Mike Axisa says:

There we go. Nice piece of hitting.

  24. forensicnucchem says:

    That’s a nice start!

  25. Hummingbird S. says:

    Nice Alex!

  26. Brent says:

I can’t take Kenny saying “Shin-SO Choo” anymore.

  27. Get into beast mode, A.J. I want that K-Rate to climb back up.

    • Kit says:

I’ve been using the “beast mode” phrase a lot recently and I was wondering where it came from. I now have my answer.

  28. forensicnucchem says:

I didn’t get to watch yesterday’s game yet, but I see Singleton STILL doesn’t know how to pronounce Choo’s name.

  29. Not Tank the Frank says:

I’m greedy. I want to see a straight up dominating AJ tonight.

    7.2 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 11 K

  30. Is it just me or has Alex been playing way off the line this whole series?

  31. forensicnucchem says:

Indians lying to AJ about the start time. It’s a conspiracy!!!

    /halfkidding’d

  32. baby carlos says:

Mike Axisa – thanks for the answer above…. interesting perspective on Soria..

Chickshit on his part but it is a business and they need their money – even if they are not worth it.

    • It’s not “chickshit”, though. It’s just negotiation tactics, that’s all.

Soria probably asked for a blanket NTC, the Royals said no, so they settled on a limited NTC. To maximize it’s value, you’d put the 10 teams most likely to want to trade for you on the NTC. Nobody would have an NTC blocking their team from trading them to the Pirates or the Royals, because those teams wouldn’t trade for anyone anyway (since they suck).

  33. Dave says:

Looks like AJ might have a favorable strike zone tonight.

  34. Good play by Cervelli considering the pitch.

  35. Ross in Jersey says:

Oh my god, a caught stealing?

    /faints

  36. lily-bk says:

i just want to see some timely hitting and a dominating aj

  37. Dave says:

Man Crowe must have had a terrible jump.

  38. bexarama says:

    That was very nicely done.

  39. forensicnucchem says:

Well, that caught stealing sure is important now.

  40. ARX says:

I am really fucking sick of this guy…

  41. Accent Shallow says:

On a breaking ball in the dirt, no less! Nicely done, Cervelli!

  42. Hold ‘em here, A.J.

  43. Ross in Jersey says:

I remember last time Cleveland was in town, Choo really didn’t do much. He’s making up for it now… dude’s a heck of a player.

  44. Mike Axisa says:

Nice pitch AJ. Fooled the kid completely.

  45. j_Yankees says:

    Nasty Hook there..

  49. Accent Shallow says:

Looked like a successful check swing to me.

  50. esteban says:

Cleveland radio announcers shitting on granderson right now.

  51. Mike Axisa says:

Whaaaaaaaaaaaa Granderson. His .327/.373/.527 batting line over the last three weeks just went up.

  52. forensicnucchem says:

Come on Granderson, need some more aggresiveness on the bases the rest of the season.

  53. Dammit, that was a ball. Gradnerson may’ve had the bag.

  54. Wow. Francisco Cervelli must have dirty pictures of BABIP.

  60. forensicnucchem says:

    NICE!!!!!!

Abusing that 3.5 hole so far.

  61. Ross in Jersey says:

Wow, hell of a slide by Granderson. Choo fired a laser, too. Thought he was dead.

  62. Dave says:

Wow heads up slide. I thought he was dead to rights with that throw

  63. bexarama says:

    Great slide by Gardy. :D

  64. Cy Farnsworth says:

Great slide by Granderson. Man does Choo have a gun.

  65. j_Yankees says:

Whew…takes guts to go there on Choo.

  66. Ross in Jersey says:

Something in the air please Jeter!

  67. Dave says:

  68. forensicnucchem says:

Please steal quickly Gardner, before the DP.

  69. All Star Carl says:

    Would Gardner steal damn

  70. Fausto Carmona is doing his best Patrick Ewing impression w/all that sweat.

Ugh. Someone needs to hire a necromancer to bring Jeter back from the dead.

  74. CS Yankee says:

couple of RBI’s out there Swish

  75. esteban says:

  92. So, the Tigers got Peralta for minor league pitcher Giovanni Soto.

It saddens me that Detroit couldn’t instead have trade that prospect to the Cubs for something (Ted Lilly? Ryan Theriot?). It would have been awesome to watch a Giovanni Soto-Geovany Soto battery.

  109. All Star Carl says:

    I love the Grandy Man.

  110. Granderson coming alive!

  111. Mike Axisa says:

    Curtis Granderson, beast.

  112. forensicnucchem says:

    Granderson OWNS Carmona!!!

  113. Accent Shallow says:

Clearly, Granderson should have been traded back to Detroit for Damon and Jackson.

    /didn’t some dope say that?

  114. Damn, Grandy’s on fire lately.

  115. Reggie C. says:

Grandy’s finally above .250. The man is turning it around!

    just a beautiful swing there.

  117. Carlosologist says:

    Granderson is the triples man.

  118. Not Tank the Frank says:

  119. Curtis “Regression to the Mean/BABIP correction” Granderson, holmes.

    • Carlosologist says:

Is Granderson’s regression going to be like his 2008 line of .280/.365/.494/.374 wOBA? Because that would be awesome if he regresses that much.

  128. Mike Axisa says:

Supposed to rain again in 45 minutes. Get those next nine outs quickly, AJ.

  129. ARX says:

6 runs is not enough. I want blood.

  130. Reggie C. says:

Okay. Carmona’s got nothing tonight. What a horribly located FB.

  131. forensicnucchem says:

    Boy, Carmona is cooked tonight.

All this after Flaherty says after the first two batters that it looks like he’s got good stuff because of 2 ground balls…

  132. Kevin in Delectable Princeton says:

    I love beating the Indians.

  133. bexarama says:

Just a gorgeous swing by GGBG there.

  134. phughesisgod says:

C’mon Alex. Get your 600 right now and stat pad that rbi count!

  149. forensicnucchem says:

Good thing Singleton reminded us that he has 599 homeruns. I had no idea what was going on…

  150. Pat D says:

Slightly off topic, but today’s trade chips article was linked to from ESPN’s Rumor Central. Mike, are you proud or horrified about this?

  151. EFF says:

    A-Rod with bases loaded in 2010: .538/.556/.1.308

  152. Carlosologist says:

    CHOKER

  153. forensicnucchem says:

    Doh…

  154. Not Tank the Frank says:

    Looooong swing.

  155. Dave says:

    Anti Climactic.

  156. Reggie C. says:

Alex swung and missed a pitch right down the middle. Yeah…his swing has gotten long and slow.

  157. All Star Carl says:

What a choke job you are Alex!

  158. claybeez says:

    A little sad, really.

  159. bexarama says:

But I thought A-Rod only hit HRs in blowouts so wouldn’t he hit one here?!??!!

  160. Accent Shallow says:

Wishlist: Jeter and A-Rod to get their OBPs above .350, preferably into the .370 range.

  161. Andy says:

Wow I can’t believe he completely missed that pitch. Right down the middle.

  162. So the Dodgers got Scotty Pods. Torre must be elated.

  163. bexarama says:

    Trivia answer: Cone?

  164. Yay Robbie.

    And the answer is Coney.

  165. baby carlos says:

I need clarification. Does this count as an offensive explosion?

  166. ARX says:

Cano, how do I love thee, let me count the ways…

  167. forensicnucchem says:

    Crushed.

  168. I’m excited. I want us to top that 17-1 beatdown from the other day. Let’s make this a 22-0 victory.

Payback for the opening series of YS3.

    /yesIreallyreallyhatetheClevelandIndians’d

  169. Accent Shallow says:

    Robbie is so good.

  170. Did the Yanks sign any IFAs this year? I know they’re waiting for the kid from Mexico to turn 16, but I honestly can’t remember even a minor signing after July 2nd. There was the catcher from Columbia (who seemed fringy) but that’s about it.

  171. Cy Farnsworth says:

I’d like to say that Cervelli’s taking weak hacks because of his elbow, but I’m pretty sure he just sucks.

  172. Carlosologist says:

I love how this game is approaching two hours and we’re not even through three and a half innings. Joe West must be livid.

  173. Cy Farnsworth says:

If I could’ve paused time right when AJ fielded that ball, I would’ve bet anyone $100 that Burnett would throw the ball away.

  174. forensicnucchem says:

How can the Angels never beat the Sox, but constantly give the Yanks trouble???

  175. Cy Farnsworth says:

Damn, Jete just can’t catch a break.

  176. The one time Jeter hits the ball hard…

  177. larryf says:

I haven’t read every post here but does anyone find a game/series without Kay more enjoyable?

  178. Three quick outs, A.J.

    /avoid the rain

  179. Fuck you and your drum, you stupid tasteless Indians fans.

  180. Mike Axisa says:

    Oh Swish, you so pretty.

  181. I don’t care what your stupid nerd stats say, Nick Swisher is a bad defender.

  182. bexarama says:

Swisher!!!!! SO BAD DIDN’T DESERVE TO GO TO THE ASG AMIRITE GUYZ.

  183. Mike Axisa says:

Just get the last out dammit. It’s going to start raining the tears of Cavs’ fans any minute.

  184. All Star Carl says:

Go back to dat change up

  185. Burnett is killing it with the breaking ball.

  186. Kit says:

    Beautifully done, AJ.

  187. Accent Shallow says:

    Jess Todd?

Clearly, a pitcher with a girl’s name is going to yield #600.

  188. Kit says:

    Hilarious, Alex.

  189. bexarama says:

A-Rod is maybe the most awkward man in the world. I love him for it.

  190. Carlosologist says:

    LOL A-Rod.

  191. Kevin in Delectable Princeton says:

    A-Rod is a weird person.

  192. All Star Carl says:

    Only A-Rod lol

  193. EFF says:

LMAO!!!! Funniest thing I’ve seen in baseball for a while…

  194. Ross in Jersey says:

Why does Alex always seem to be involved in the weirdest stuff you see on a baseball field?

    • EFF says:

When I was thinking of the other funnier things I’ve seen in baseball, they all have A-Rod connected with it! Luis Castillo and Dallas Braden’s ‘kingdom’. Yea, this one will rank up there.

  195. Kevin in Delectable Princeton says:

As long as A-Rod keeps hitting the ball like that, the homerun will come. I could really care less about it.

  196. aznsensation says:

That’s how you steal a base right there

  197. Imagine if Alex went the rest of the year and didn’t hit another Home Run?

For the first few weeks it would be torturous, then after it would get annoying and pathetic. But by around mid-September, it would actually be pretty funny.

  198. Reggie C. says:

Cano! Show Alex how its done.

  199. Marcus says:

For the Gameday-ers out there, what exactly did A-Rod do?

  200. Granderson homers here. Book it.

    /predictionssuretogowrong’d

  201. larryf says:

Let me be the first to say this is now the minor league game we have all wanted Joba to pitch in. Bring him in Joe and let him throw a few changeups and work on his mechanics!

Oh and have D-Rob warming in the pen just in case….

  202. bexarama says:

Alex’s face for anyone who has Gameday or whatnot:
    http://tweetphoto.com/35483238

    • Not Tank the Frank says:

That’s priceless. I wish I could get a still of him on his back with the base and frame it. He looked like a cat with a ball of yarn.

  203. forensicnucchem says:

Wow, Mets. Actually showing a little life?

  204. Ross in Jersey says:

Wow, how do the Cardinals ever let the Mets tie that game.

  205. Andy says:

I’m not much of a Mets fan but this is such a blow out I’ve been watching a little. Awesome game.

  206. larryf says:

Damon HR tonight but Tigers lose again!

  207. forensicnucchem says:

Wow, Marlins had an even bigger comeback than the Mets to tie it.

  208. forensicnucchem says:

Randy Winn pinch hitting for the Cardinals. Boy, I long for the good ole days of April and May in NY.

Course now he’ll probably get a hit since I said this.

Or not, weak grounder, as usual.

  209. Not Tank the Frank says:

Singleton – Invitation to the party. Gotta get up to get down. LOOK OUT!

Kay – Back! Track! Wall! See Ya! An inauspicious beginning for ____ And a derisive cheer from the crowd. And ____’s struggles continue. I went to Fordham. I love Kim Jones.

Flash – He’s proud of his fastball.

    O’Neill – Eats a lot.

Am I missing anything? Long game…

  210. baby carlos says:

when miranda smiles he looks like bubba from forest gump

  211. Carlosologist says:

    Nice play by AJ.

  212. bexarama says:

    Hilarious, AJ.

(If that was Pettitte I’d be crying GET ME SCREENCAPS RIGHT NOW!!! however.)

  213. Carlosologist says:

Even though it’s a low leverage situation, I’d much rather see Robertson than Joba.

  214. j_Yankees says:

    JOBA IN TEH 8TH!!!111!!!1!!!

  215. forensicnucchem says:

    The 7th-inning blowout guy?

It has a ring to it…

    /notreally’d

  216. A balk?

THIS KID CAN’T HANDLE THE PRESSURE OF A BLOWOUT 7TH INNING SEND HIM TO THE MINORS IMMEDIATELY!

    /kiddingbutnotreally’d

  217. Ross in Jersey says:

    Joba balked cuz he’s fat!

    /StevePhillips

  218. Kit says:

That is a seriously intense look there, AJ.

  219. All Star Carl says:

    3-2 slider. He fooled me.

  220. forensicnucchem says:

Hit 97′s but still hung a slider, though that last one was a bit better.

  221. Brian says:

    A-Rod’s up third… here comes 600 (Finally!)

  222. j_Yankees says:

    Klapisch:

‘Confirming @SI_JonHeyman re #Yanks’ interest in Dunn. They’re still waiting to hear what #Nats want in return.’

  223. ZZ says:

How the hell do you balk in an 8-0 game with the 1B playing behind the runner?

This comes a few days after a game where Joba completely ignored the runner on 1B when it actually mattered.

The things that he does on the mound are just baffling at times.

  224. WHY THE FUCK IS MY BURRITO TAKING THIS LONG TO COOK IN THIS MICROWAVE?!??!??!??!??!???!

  225. Sergio probably needs the work, but I wanted another inning from Joba. If he’s going to be a mop-up man, let him have lots of those mop-up innings.

  226. bexarama says:

2-for-5 with a booming double is UNACCEPTABLE A-Rod!!!! (I kid.)

  227. j_Yankees says:

MITRE TEH NEW 8TH INNING MAN??1?!

    ::takes sip of Diet Coke::

    WHERE IS JOBBER??!??!?!

    /Francesa’d

  228. Rafael says:

what’s the point of using Mitre and Gaudin today if Moseley will start tomorrow?

  229. forensicnucchem says:

The long national nightmare is over.

Chone Figgins now has his first homer of the season…

  230. Pat D says:

No runs since the 4th? What a bunch of punchless 4A players.

  231. I’m sorry, Jon Stewart, I can’t laugh at your jokes through that horrible mustache and goatee.

  232. bexarama says:

Just end. The game. I want. To watch. Andy Pettitte. Thank you.

  233. But I thought Swisher had no range!

  234. forensicnucchem says:

“Adam Wainwright’s a good hitting pitcher”

He’s hitting .148. The NL makes me sad…

  235. bexarama says:

Yankees win! Does this mean that we’re gonna get a bunch of people saying this is the “best win ever” and we’re “locks to win the WS”? Because whenever we lose we have to hear about how it’s the worst loss ever and every team is better than us.

    /unnecessarily snarky’d?

  236. forensicnucchem says:

I’m almost kind of glad that A-Rod hasn’t hit 600 in this series. If he did, then we’d have to listen to Singleton and Flaherty on Yankees Classics.

  237. forensicnucchem says:

The Mets just let their lefty specialist pitch to Pujols with a guy on 3rd, two outs, and an open base…

    Brilliant!!!
