Game 103: Fat Elvis is in the building
ByIt sure was a busy trade deadline for the Yankees, with the biggest pick up being the man you see above. Lance Berkman steps right in as the Yanks’ new designated hitter, and his impact is immediately noticeable. He’s batting second in tonight’s lineup, pushing both Curtis Granderson and Nick Swisher down towards the bottom third of the order. On days Jorge Posada catches, you’re looking at a lineup that could hurt you one through nine with zero breaks for opposing pitchers. Heck, Derek Jeter is the team’s worst offensive regular right now.
In other news, the Yanks are playing a pretty big game tonight. They dropped the opener last night on one bad Phil Hughes pitch, but lost among the bad pitch and the trade deadline was that the Yankees had just one hit after the 1st inning. That simply can not happen again, and I’m sure Fat Elvis will do a long way towards making sure it doesn’t. A win restores the Yanks’ two game lead in the division, a loss puts them in a tie with Tampa.
Here’s tonight’s starting nine…
Jeter, SS
Berkman, DH
Teixeira, 1B
A-Rod, 3B
Cano, 2B
Swisher, RF
Granderson, CF
Cervelli, C
Gardner, LF
And on the mound, it’s Javy “score me some damn runs” Vazquez.
First pitch is scheduled for a little after 7pm ET, and can be seen locally on YES and nationally on MLB Network. Enjoy the game, folks.

Lance looks good in pinstripes. They’re, you know, slimming.
And yet, this team is definitely deep and thick.
/JohnHart’d
We won’t actually see him in pinstripes until next week against the Jays. I’ll be attending the second game of that set. It’s very exciting.
I’ll be at Tuesday’s game too. Where you sitting?
This feels like I’m watching an episode of “To Catch A Predator” unfolding live before my eyes.
I’m not a cougar, ass.
You know I’m just messing with ya.
I’ve been in Rebecca’s presence, I can vouch for her for anything.
Haha, well played.
I’ve actually seen that show on multiple occasions.
Oh wait, I just remembered that we got tickets to the Wednesday matinee. Apologies for the misleading information. But, my dad and I are sitting in section 129, row 30.
Good job, kid. Play it cool, pretend you’re not onto her. Don’t let her buy you any alcohol.
He’s on a roll.
/SeeingWhatHeSaysNext’d
Hold on, lemme go let Sensitive RAB Guy’s wife know I’m in here slinging the good shit.
This has been a long undercover assignment by carlosologist, pretending he’s 14 for months now
Oh wait, I just remembered that we got tickets to the Wednesday matinee. Apologies for the misleading information.
Translation:
Uh oh, this isn’t looking good. Quick, make up an excuse, apologize, and back away slowly.
You New Yorkers are so lucky, being in New York and all. I’m in NC and can only catch interleague games versus the Braves, which never happens.
I hear ya. The main games I get to go to are in Anaheim, and we all know how well those usually go…
At least you can attend games, I’m in Guatemala
A-Rod gets #600 in the 3rd inning tonight with one on and one out to make it a 4-0 game.
Hey, if you’re going to make out there predictions, go big or go home…
Like HR #300, HR #600 will be hit at Tropicana field. Unlike #s 300 and 400, it will not be to opposite field. Unlike #500, it will not be down the line. #600 will be a MASSIVE shot to straightaway left reminiscent of his 53rd HR (a GS) of 2007, which hit a catwalk over the seats in left field.
cant we go with Puma over Fat Elvis
Fat Elvis >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Big Puma
I dont know , when I think of Fat Elvis it makes me ill,but Big Puma, Thats a bad ass cat
Puma sneakers don’t go with the Bronx.
I like Fat Elvis better, if only for the ‘Fat Elvis has left the building’ homerun call.
that would kick ass
We’re obviously going to be no-hit because Javy is on the mound and we can’t score runs for him and the pitcher tonight just threw a no-hitter.
/hopingforreverselock’d
Over/under on the use of Deep and Thick on tonights thread ?
I’ll take the over with 20.
50. I’ll take the over.
Brian Cashman: Great GM trader, or best GM trader?
I dunno, Ned Coletti’s giving him a run for his money. When you can trade Carlos Santana, Andrew Lambo, James McDonald, Brett Wallach, Lucas May, and Blake DeWitt for Casey Blake, Octavio Dotel, Ted Lilly, Ryan Theriot, and Scott Podsednik, well, you’ve just got to do that.
That was sarcasm right? I haven’t followed the non-Yankee deals being stuck in a car for 8 hours, but I’ve been hearing the deal sucked for the Dodgers especially so I’m going with that.
Yes, sarcasm. Thought I laid it on thick enough. FailME.
damnit…we have fat elvis now and still cervelli finds a way to get in the lineup. Damn you posada and you’re old body.
oh..and i’m not really sure how the yankees will find a way to win games with Thames still here and Curtis in AAA. ::rolls eyes::
Yeah, because that exactly what I was saying.
haha you got it…you got the sarcasm.
anyone want to guess what # Wood would be getting? obviously #34 and 43 is taken. I would say he would choose #39.
#99.
/Bruney’d
Wood could be wild at times. sounds awesome. lol.
For the number junkies among us, Lance Berkman will don 17, and Austin Kearns will carry 26 on his back. I guess John Flaherty and El Duque won’t live to see their pinstriped numbers retired.
Late addition from the prior post, I wonder if they’ll beat that into the ground like they do with O’Neill and 21…
Damnit, failed again…
What were you trying to do? Maybe I can help.
Damn, that was very polite
SHUT THE F#$% UP YOU ASS!!!! I’M TALKING TO FORENSICNUCCHEM!!!!
/irony’d
thats more like it
I got it now I think. Spelled out bold instead of using b. Never done my own webpage or anything beyond some C++ (many years ago), so I’m trying to pick it up now just for some use here.
Yeah. Quick and dirty:
Bold – <b></b>
Italics – <i></i>
Strikeout – <strike></strike>
Quote/cite – <blockquote></blockquote>
Those are probably all you need.
Thanks.
I’ll take Jeter over Cervelli. Sure Cervelli isn’t really a regular but damn he sure is playing a lot. Too much for my tastes.
(new prospect crush)
(in addition to the ones I already have)
http://web.minorleaguebaseball.....pid=570717
Born 1992, holy crap I’m not even old and that makes me feel old.
In 1992 I played the Wicked Witch of the West in the Kindegarten play.
I still have the hat.
I think I was either in kindergarten or 1st grade then.
In 1992 I personally organized a field trip for 100 of my high school classmates to go see a matinee of Malcolm X.
Born 1991… maybe I should start playing baseball again in College… already missed my high school draft year.
Jesus I feel so bloody old. I was born in the 1980s, man, the 1980s!
in 1992, i was in the 2nd grade picking on girls. yeah i was a very shy kid.
Born in 1981, stop making me feel old!!
hmm….ghostbusters came out 2 months before i was born. LOL
/1984′d
Yea, I’ll be 30 in 6 months and I’ll have to stop bullshitting myself that I’m still young, relative to what I’ve accomplished in life (nothing).
Don’t feel so bad, Pat D. You did that one thing that we all agreed never to talk about again for national security reasons, that was pretty awesome.
I’m telling this to my dad right now.
He’s not getting the joke.
Doesn’t matter. Those evildoers deserved to die. Hold your head up high, friendo.
When I was born the Red Sox lost in the WS. Unfortunately it also meant the Mets won.
The ass whole Mets at that.
*asshole
/brainfart
In 1992, I was nonexistent.
do I want to know how this deep and thick thing started?
John Hart said the Yankees had a “deep and thick” lineup on MLBN today
Oh my Jesus Montero.
Deep and thick. Uh huh.
Bitches love that shit, yo.
Raise your hand if you forgot Tino Martinez worked for YES.
(raises hand)
I want beleive that we’re really deeper and thicker until I hear Suzyn Waldman say so
It’s all about A-Rod’s special balls.
Jeter grounding out on the first pitch? Probably the most predictable thing in baseball.
/shotatJeter’d
New lineup… same old Jeter.
That one was almost a hit. Keep swinging at the first pitch!
Wow, that’s a very shiny helmet.
Urinal fresh.
/HomerSimpson’d
If he doesn’t hit a homer here, he’s a bust and we should have gotten Dunn.
I’m starting to hate Derek Jeter.
That wry little smile he always has while jogging back to the dugout really bugs me for some reason.
Not to be rude or anything but he’s pretty much had that for his entire career. It probably only bugs you now because he’s having a crappy year.
Well, it’s bugged me for awhile, but yeah, it’s moreso now that he’s kinda sucking.
Someone tell him it’s 2009.
Someone tell him it’s 1999.
I have to say, as long as we win the WS, I’d much rather win despite Jeter then win with the help of Jeter. The difference? About 60 million dollars. Of course, if we lose, and Jeter sucks in October, it’s a different story.
don’t worry, the 4/100 deal he’s about to sign this offseason will make you feel better, as will the litany of assholes responding to any skepticism with “ARE YOU STUPID!??! IT’S DEREK JETER!! DEREK FUCKING JETER! THEY SHOULDA PAID HIM MORE THAN AROD GETS!!!”
/Heyman’d?
Or was it /Olney’d?
ietc
He won’t get that, not anymore.
Why is our worst regular batting 1st?
/not sure whether to be happy or depressed by this
So he can’t ground into a DP in the first inning?
I was reffering to batting on the other side of the order.
Imagine the shit Girardi will get from the fans. Even if it makes sense, fans won’t want anything to do with ‘insulting’ Jeter.
And I hate that I know it’s impacting team decisions.
/CalRipken’d
+2
seriously…berkman does look weird with the gray uni
Damn Jeter…
Go Berkman!
Bust.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
A flyout?! Why didn’t we get Dunn!!!!
At least he had a 6 pitch AB, something we haven’t seen Jeter do in what seems like forever.
BUST
DAMN the shift
Fucking Longoria.
Jeter’s 66% GB rate has to regress at some point right?
I’m sorry, it’s literally impossible to make me want to buy any of your product with those ridiculous commercials, Izod.
I wish we had a leadoff hitter like that.
/2009 Swish’d
God damn.
AHHH the most annoying play
I wish we had a Carl Crawford-type leading off.
Oh wait…
damn, not a good start.
I think they should have maybe been expecting that…
Quick, somebody steal Evan Longoria’s hat!
ENOUGH….DEREK JETER WILL COME THROUGH FOR US WHEN IT MATTERS THE MOST……I hope
And this is when the Rays look about a hundred times better than the Yankees.
Teams that are winning games at a certain time tend to look better. Shocking, really.
but…they are not
Looks are deceiving
Watching the Sox-Tigers game on Fox.
Announcer: Ken Rosenthal the Dodgers were very active during the deadline
Ken: Thats right, very active (D)dick.
I’m actually not even mad. Javy getting Longo to *only* sac fly has to be considered a win.
Even with the correctly guessed pitch out.
If cervelli can’t throw a guy out, even on a pitchout, what value does he have to this team?
His .400 AVG with RISP.
/MSM’d
He’s so CLUTCH!!!!
Yup, though I don’t see the perfection in that throw that they did. It was up and slightly to the 3rd base side.
Yeah. And both Kay and John called it a good throw. Better throw would’ve been to first base side
Heard this: Carl Crawford is fast.
/Olney’d
Gardy, pay attention, you are fast too
… and white, so that means you are gritty. Use that Grit!
Oh I forgot the whole #600 thing. Oy.
PUMA WATCH!!!!
how could you forget the special balls ?
A-Rod probably has the biggest strikezone. That’s so god damn annoying that the bais against him can actually be sued against him in game. Where are my robots?
Deep and thick, Alex
Kay and Flaherty were talking about Matt Joyce’s homer last night, correcting themselves for having held it as a mistake by Phil. Eiland said it was a great pitch, give the credit to Joyce.
I had noticed by scanning the papers over the last couple weeks that Matt had won several games with clutch hits. He seems to have the “it” factor, and I am glad he didn’t get replaced by Dunn.
Plus he’s hot.
/bexy’d
/SixDegreesOfEdwinJackson’d
WTF are they booing ? fuckin redneck cowbell ringers
A-Rod worked a good at-bat there.
For the most part since #599 he has had alot of good at-bats just no HR’s.
WOOOOOOOO CANO
Beast.
DEEP AND THICK
This needs to be on a t-shirt. Immediately.
gotta be a street vendor listening somewhere
Yeah, Robbie.
Yeah Cano. Let’s go now boys!!!
Whenever i see Phil Coke, i’m thankful the Yankees have a facial hair policy. Could not see that mess every day
He is a ridiculous mess since going to the Tigers. He just looks awful.
He looks like a trucker. And a rapist. It’s really gross.
I want that facial hair policy enforced for Old Timer’s Day as well.
I’m looking at you, Goose.
The fact that he’s on his way to blowing the game against the Sox certainly doesn’t help.
That too
Cano set this up perfectly.
Swish at the dish!
Phew, I don’t owe forensicnucchem a hot tub full of blonde, bodacious women.
http://riveraveblues.com/2010/.....nt-1000539
I would have enjoyed watching you attempt to procure such a thing.
Good ol’ Billy Goat isn’t going to no hit us.
haha, I’ll take the win instead though.
And forensic is shorter for those of you who don’t want to type so much.
I’ve always wondered about your name. Is it short for Forensic Nuclear Chemistry?
And, if so… what the #$%# is Forensic Nuclear Chemistry?
Wow, not bad, people don’t usually get the second part. It’s for Forensics and Nuclear Chemistry. It’s from when I couldn’t decide what to do with my life many years ago.
meant to say Forensics and Nuclear Chemistry separately. No, there is no forensic nuclear chemistry.
Nice.
Yeah, it works. I used to post on ESPN’s message boards as forensicyankees or 4nsicyankees (again, shorter), but for some reason didn’t do that here (guess it’s a given that I’m a Yankee fan if I’m on here).
If you have vast knowledge of Forensics and Nuclear Chemistry, you are way too smart for this site. lol
haha, don’t really agree, but thanks though.
that was one choice offer. I almost wanted to see it happen.
Yikes, Coke with the IBB to Youk to bring up Papi w/ the bases loaded and the Sox down 2.
And gives up the walk-off.
Figures. Where is that dude who has been crying over Coke. I am sure he will be MIA for the time being.
Pretty sure that was the now-banned Cookiepuss/Muffindick.
Ahhh, I see. Definitely won’t be seeing him anytime soon. Although, I am pretty sad about being proven right.
Swing the bat fool
Yeah can’t complain.
Wow that curve was viscous
We are now gonna hear from YES about how Swisher cant bat 6th for the rest of the season.
Striking out after getting to 3-0 is very frustrating.
That was out Maddon.
Wow, Papi with the bases clearing double in the bottom of the ninth off of Coke.
Good job Coke, Ugh.
Nice, always a good move to put the winning run on base.
Yeah, but if you’re stuck with Coke, you’d rather have him facing Ortiz with a possible double play than Youkilis.
It’s an arguable position. I’m of the opinion you just don’t put the winning run on. Especially with a guy who can hit the ball very far coming up.
But I was specifically told by a reliable authority that Phil Coke was worth more than Curtis Granderson all by himself. This new information you provide me thus does not make sense.
/muffindick’d
There you go, Grizzle.
We’ll counter with our own sac fly.
Yea good at-bat
Javy Happy
“If Granderson doesn’t start hitting…” Where’ve you been fool?
Austin Jackson is gonna play LF vs LHP for the Yankees according to Kay.
Kay FAIL. Just called Granderson Austin Jackson. Are they all the same to him?
And earlier on the season I think he mixed Granderson with Mike Cameron too.
Jim Leyland is a terrible manager. He put in his best reliever yesterday in a none-save situation in the 8th and left him in for 59 pitches. Today he was forced to go to Phil Coke who promptly lost the game. Pretty predictable.
Definitely not a shining moment for him.
The same terrible manager who out-managed Joe Torre in the 2006 ALDS?
Doesn’t take much to out-manage Torre.
OH SNAP!!!!111!!!
.and put the winning run on base
Cadillac’n.
of course Cervelli hit the ball hard and it was caught. payback for those 45 hoppers thru the holes.
I was hoping BJ would take 3 steps in first and then it would go over his head.
I can’t wait to see a lineup that has Posada catching, Berkman DHing, and more importantly Cervelli on the bench. I love Cervelli, but geez.
Gotta go with Astros.
I think I’d say Royals.
Then again, I think Wallace will hit and he alone is probably worth more than any of the Royals’ pickups.
why are the red sox not one of the trivia choices ? They picked up a soon to be third string catcher
Wow, Kay learned to read fly balls.
When do you think Swisher might master that skill?
Oooooh, that’s a really good Toyota Text Poll.
“Of the Sellers at the trade deadline, who did the best?”
D-Backs, Royals, Indians, Astros
… can I go off the board and pick either the Nats or the Pirates? Getting Lambo/McDonald for Dotel and getting Ramos/Tatusko/Roark for Capps and Guzman, those are dynamite pickups.
I will say that the D’Backs really didn’t get much of anything, nor did the Indians. I think the Pirates and Nats are probably better choices.
The Nats would have been runaway winners had they been able to trade Dunn for what they wanted.
Yeah, the Indians being on there didn’t make sense. Giovanni Soto, Corey Kluber, and some PTBNLs for Peralta, Westbrook, Wood, and Kearns? Meh.
The D-Backs did well, though, IMO. Hudson, Holmberg, Skaggs, and Corbin + Joe Saunders’s above league average reliability is a good haul of quality pieces for Haren and Jackson. They might not have gotten every single possible drop of blood from the Haren turnip, but they did well in adding young talent, IMO.
Is it strange that I feel like the Royals actually did a pretty good job during the trading deadline? They actually dumped some of their deadweight veterans. You could make a good case they sold high on Podsednik and Farnsworth, too.
Washington getting Ramos for Capps is a win times thirty times ten million though. No question.
Yeah, I like the Royals haul as well. Just like the impact pieces the Nats and Pirates brought in a bit more.
I’d go with the Nats. If they can extend Dunn, they will have all the pieces in position to make a run for the NL East in 2012.
The Nats didn’t trade Dunn, so they’re automatically eliminated.
Meh, not trading him was probably a good thing. That franchise needs to extend Adam Dunn and keep him around anyway.
They haven’t worked out an extension yet, so why would you assume they’d resign him before the end of the season? They should have pulled a deal like the Orioles did with Ponson – trade him at the deadline then resign him in the offseason.
What makes you assume they’d be able to resign him in the offseason? Maybe they trade him somewhere and he loves it and signs an extension.
Cuts both ways.
I like this Javy
He’s been dynamite since the four game set in Detroit.
Did anyone else notice that PA announcer ? WTF?
It’s the Trop. There’s a lot of weird shit that goes on in that dome.
He’s not going to set-up for Mariano idiot.
That was not a swing, damn ump.
Just for the record: if Kerry Wood becomes “the 8th inning guy” we’re in trouble.
Who is ?
Joba or playing to match-ups with D-rob/Logan.
Unpredictable Joba > than Wood ????
Probably, yes.
David Robertson, Damaso Marte > Unpredictable Joba > Wood
Yeah, because our eighth inning guy was great last postseason…

Wow, I’m shocked that Cashman said the moves are upgrades. I fully expected he would say ‘Boy, I sure am an idiot. I wish I hadn’t made any of those trades.’
…are we SURE that Kearns is a better hitter than Colin Curtis?
What in Curtis’ track record suggests he can hit at the ML level?
Yes.
Colin Curtis has a career .710 OPS in the minors and hasn’t had a season over .725 since his first (half) season in 2006. Kearns has a career .779 OPS.
That.
Gardner woulda had it. Wait … what?
Gardner woulda had that.

NJ had the most upside out of that lot. Other than that there was an extremely large mustache and Cervellian surplus.
Kearns looks out of place with #26. It’s nothing but backup catchers and utility infielders.
How did I not notice that Johnson wore 26 and then so did two other guys already this year?
I’m in the same boat. Totally forgot what NJ wore. It’s been awhile…
Did I miss something? If NJ ‘has’ it this year, then how does Kearns have it?
NJ switched to his old 36 in May before his injury.
Yea, I forgot that too. Thanks to BRef for reminding me.
That too.
Ah, forgot about that. Out of sight, out of mind I guess. Thanks much.
NJ’s not on the active roster. Once you go down, you lose your rights to the number.
I also love how El Duque makes the post-El Duque list. Did I see an article the other day that he’s still pitching somewhere at like 45 years old?
I wouldn’t be surprised.
Oil Can Boyd is attempting a comeback. Yes, at 50.
He’s still playing with the Nats AAA team I believe.
BR has him in their rookie league, but with only one game pitched. The article I saw was probably for that one game.
Is it just me or does Berkman also look like Bruce Campbell?

Trivia answer: Buehrle?
Question?
Last pitcher to start against the Yankees in his first start following a no-hitter.
Wilson Alvarez. LoHud had this earlier.
why thank you kind sir.
I do what I can.
Nevermind, it’s not Buehrle.
That Bangladesh sign? Absolutely retarded.
I think the Rays play the most aggressive shift against Teixeira.
He has a .644 OPS against them, so they’re doing something right against him. Only the Angels and Tigers are lower.
We look so bad against this team.
ROBBIE DOESN’T
This.
He’s our best player
Were you whining about this two weeks ago at the Stadium? Probably not.
No
Yes, well, teams that are losing games generally tend to look worse than the teams that are winning them.
The Rays have great pitching. That makes other teams look bad.
Cano’s gotta carry this team.
Cano is beating as usual.
I meant to say “beasting” but I guess beating works too…
Cano has the sweetest lefty swing since Bonds.
I agree
When Cano’s hitting the ball the other way with authority, he’s scary good.
C’mon, Swish. You need to come through here.
That thing on Garza’s chin had one big pointy hair on the end.
Flaherty sounds so surprised that there are more RBI opportunities when you’re batting behind someone with a .390 OBP instead of a .330 OBP.
It’s almost like RBI are based on other players in front of you instead of just yourself.
It also almost like how the pitched ball slows down when it gets to home plate.
Wait, what?
/McCarver’d
I dont think Flaherty majored in Nuclear Chemistry.
Or in forensics.
Geez, I’m going to regret this now, huh?
There were just too damn many Pat’s on here already.
I blame Lady Gaga.
Man, crickets in here when it comes to A-Rod’s suckitude. Saving it up for Jetes?
How long as A-Rod’s suckiness lasted? How long has Jeter’s? Okay then.
that
ARod has been bad for about two months, looking at his splits. Course, Jeter’s been a) worse, and b) bad basically all season.
Okay. Yourself. I know you love Keith Law, Mike, and your impression is spot on lately! Guys were bashing Jeter after ’08. Then in ’09 all is forgiven. Now, he’s struggling again. Maybe, he’s done. He is blowing. But, I wouldn’t count him out. And A-Rod. He’s helping the most in RBI. Your favorite stat.
Seriously, I take it lightly. Tongue in cheek. But, there is a gap here, maybe generational. Most guys on here are just as much fan boys of A-Rod as the Jeter fan boys they crack up over. To me, Jeter, Mo, Bernie, Posada, Andy and others (El Duque, Leyritz…) ended an 18 year long nightmare during my youth. I’ll always appreciate them even when frustrated. Maybe that’s my bias, but you have yours.
A-Rod’s power numbers are down. I believe his ISOD is down. I’m pulling for him, but sorry I’m just as/more worried about a guy with a hip injury at 35 (see Lowell) who’s around 7+ more years and potentially in decline than I am a 2-4 yr deal for Jeter. Jeter may already be in Cooperstown while A-Rod’s still on the field. I’m not wishing A-Rod ill. I want him to bounce back. But, how bout a little balance?
If Alex’s career 106 WAR sucks, I don’t know what’s good.
Don’t remember saying this. Strawman, much?
I’m still curious as to what number Kerry Wood wears. He’s worn 34 his entire life in the bigs, but it’s taken (AJ) and 28 through 38 are all either currently in use or permanently retired.
He can’t invert it, either, since 43 is Marte. And half of 34 is 17, now issued.
27?
25 (which would be one less than 3 and one more than 4)?
47?
68 (34 doubled)?
No good choices.
Ummm…who’s using 35?
And I think Teix might want to keep 25.
Whoops, my bad.
Touché.
Until the team has the balls to start issuing them, I’m considering 6, 21, 35, 51, 55, to all be quasi-retired.
I can’t see any of those numbers actually being retired except 6 and 51.
And 6 will only be retired when someone says, “I’m sorry.”
I’m with you, but if the team refuses to issue them, it’s effectively the same thing without the pomp and circumstance (and permanence).
Well, 21 is the only one that’s really entered that territory. I think they’re waiting on Bernie for 51 to be retired, or maybe for him to finally appear on the HOF ballot.
It’s been less than 2 years for 35 and less than 1 for 55, so I’m not sure.
True. We’ll see.
Meanwhile, BRef doesn’t show numbers of manager, so I still don’t know what number Joe McCarthy wore.
McCarthy didn’t wear a number. When Bill Dickey replaced him, he became the first Yankee manager to wear a number.
http://yankeenumbers.com
Live it, love it.
Thanks!
According to wikipedia, he chose not to wear a uniform number with the Yanks and Sox.
I would hate retiring all those numbers. I just think it’s getting pretty out of hand at this point.
Numbers whose retirement could/should be questioned: 1, 9, 10, 15, 23, 32, 44, 49.
Can’t argue too much with 23 and maybe 49 being retired. But the others sure.
If you’re taking #9 down for Maris, that’s fine, but leave it up for Nettles.
Agreed. When’s he get his due?
I actually think Guidry’s number being retired is the worst, actually.
For Martin, Maris, Rizzuto, Munson, Mattingly and Howard, their numbers were retired purely for overly sentimental reasons.
For Reggie, it was just the postseason stuff, but for a guy who only played 5 years for the team, it’s somewhat excessive.
I love it. Embarrassment of riches, yo. Glaring ostentatiousness. I love being the only team in baseball good enough to worry about running out of numbers for Spring Training.
I want #6, #11, #15, and #51 retired immediately.
11 and 15?
Lefty Gomez and Red Ruffing.
It is slightly strange their numbers aren’t retired, being that they are in the HOF. But I don’t see it happening, and I’m sure they won’t retire 15 again.
Is 102 taken ? Its 34 tripled
6
There would be some sort of cosmic justice to giving the number of a manager who broke good pitchers with horrid overuse to Kerry Wood.
Give him 21 for the shits and giggles.
He could go with 77 (3+4=7).
I like that.
You dont like 102 ? It makes the roster look Deeper and Thicker
You make a compelling argument, and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.
ah the great wood mystery.
ah the great wood mystery.
TWSS
along with the deep and thick yankees, its must see tv
61? Adds up to 7. Don’t know why he wears 34. Although, I don’t know if you’d want to have 61 out there again so quickly. It didn’t go so well for the last guy…
Yeah, I was staying away from the Park-stink.
Well then go with 70.
Someone should give Kerry Wood 36. Then, when he leaves after the season with his very first World Series ring, you give 36 to Cliff Lee.
I doubt we’d actually give #36 away until Nick Johnson is actually legally dead (or his contract option is declined).
that’d be in poor taste if nick the stick actually died soon.
Didn’t you say that if someone if 60 day DLed that they lose their rights to the number? That’s why I suggested 36.
True, but it’s still common courtesy. If Nick hadn’t given up #26, they probably wouldn’t issue it.
Did Michael Kay ever check the teams Javy was on?
That’s not important. What’s important is that his radio show is on 1050 ESPN.
From 3-7!
Can someone please get Garza a pair of scissors?
did javy throw an eephus on the second pitch?
I like how even Vitale’s shirt is loud.
I wonder if Linda Hogan and her fiance are at the game tonight.
combination of linda mcmahon and hulk hogan?
it does make sense.
Oh my God Phil Coke STILL does that thing with the pointing on what he thinks is a pop-up
I love how neither Jackson nor the LF appeared to want to, ya know, FIELD THE BALL!!!!
No Kay, those are NOT trades
It was nice of Boesch and Jackson to discuss who should pick up the ball at the wall for awhile there.
Beat me to it, dammit!
haha, sorry. Great minds you know…
Ugh. I feel for Javy. Hate this.
He needs more tRA.
If Javy had a good tRA, he could be like Joe Saunders and could net us Dan Haren or someone like that.
Garza looks moorish. His goatee looks like the Pharaoh.
I don’t think the Moors and the Egyptians were the same people.
Indeed.
I’m kinda vague about the Egyptian racial identity way back then. Moorish or arabic doesn’t seem too far off. But, please, improve my education.
I’m not talking about race, just ethnicity. The Moors were descended from the Arabic Berbers, and both the Berber people and Arabic people in general are ethnic groups that coalesced much later than the Nubian/Kushite/Ethiopian roots of Ancient Egypt.
The link isn’t strong enough to claim they’re the same people.
wow, sounds like you know something, tommiesmithjohncarlos. I’ve heard of Nubian, seen the sarcophogii of dead pharoahs, and the wall art, but beyond that it’s all unrequited curiosity. Ethiopian? Kushite? as in Hindu-Kush? Sounds like a gem of information, please. And what is the distinction you make between race and ethnicity?
Someone tell the Yankees Javier Vazquez isn’t pitching.
Was anybody here hanging out with Snookie when she got arrested yesterday?
What exactly is the Jersey Shore show? I hv never watched it but is it just another show where the camera follows aimlessly as non-descript lead their lives and gain publicity for it?
Are you sure you have never seen the show because you nailed the plot perfectly!
Lol, never.
power hitting, run padding Yankees… good thing they outscored the indians in the last game to keep that RS number high.
You’re right, they’ve totally lucked their way to the best record in baseball.
Yes, that is a great response. Beating up on Baltimore, Toronto, KC, Seattle has nothing to do with it. My fault.
Would you rather they not beat the bad teams? They can’t control their schedule.
Show me a good team who doesn’t beat up on weaker competition and pretty much break even against good competition.
Go ahead, I’ll wait.
Seriously. Why do people only bring this up when it comes to the Yankees? I blame WasWatching
Yea, cuz the Rangers don’t play so many times against two barely .500 teams and one terrible team, right?
Whereas the Yankees have one terrible team, one .500 team, and two really good teams.
Oh, and once again, fuck Was Watching.
You mess with Dave Winfield, you mess with me.
Doesnt everyone in the league play the same teams ? They have the best record because they have been the best team so far. And now they are Deeper and Thicker….(using it every time I see a chance)
Beat the bottom feeders : Was supposed to happen
Lose to the bottom feeders: Sky is falling
Beat the contenders: Lets c if they do it tomorrow
Lose to the contenders: they suck
– Doesnt this suck the fun out of watching a game for entertainment?
PLAYOFF PREVIEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
/lastyear’d
We’re losing and the offense doesn’t look great. Hey, baby carlos, fancy seeing you here.
just checking to see how the game is going and see that they have 2 hits. Figured the blistering they had towards the end of last nights game would carry over…Oh wait, that is right they had 1 hit after the first….
But Matt Garza is a stud and did throw a no hitter so…”that is baseball”
Yeah, sure, you’re just “checking in”. You’re not constantly lurking during every game to see when the Yankees are struggling so that you can make a beeline to RAB and bitch and moan about how flawed we are. It’s a total coincidence that when the team is doing well, you’re never here “checking in” during those moments, huh?
(rolls eyes)
Pretty much. And seriously, baby carlos, how many times have people said this about you?
Dude, I could be positive all the time and would still catch shit. There are 5 people allowed free range to basically paraphrase all the negative comments and the ass kissing public says”yep, good point”. So like it really matters.
It is like people, inherently evil and self serving. If you think people are naturally nice and have good intentions, you become a fool for their fodder.
Or you’re just an asshole.
perspective, I guess yours is slanted to just the negative ones I make. Understood….
a) Matt Garza _is_ a very good pitcher, especially when he’s on.
b) hey, how’re the power-hitting yanks doing now? Maybe Tex should’ve sac bunted.
Matt Garza is a good pitcher, not a very good pitcher… and when you add “when he’s on” well I would hope at this level any player “when they are on” would be good.
So you understand then why the Yankees sometimes do, in fact, lose?
The sooner the Rays go into another ballpark, the better.
The Trop is so ugly it hurts my eyes.
Seriously, how did the MLB approve Tampa’s expansion bid knowing that they were gonna be playing in the Trop?
It’s probably the worst baseball venue I’ve seen.
On the NY broadcast does Garza have one wild hair sticking out from his goatee?
Yes, it’s disgusting.
Yippie we finally agree on something!!! LOL
I think we also agreed The French Connection was pretty awesome. Two things! Two!
I like your spunk though….
I like your spunk though…

That’s what she said?

What’s funny is that me and my best friend, a Mets fan, were watching Scrubs before the game.
Lol good show.
Too bad those three words describe the game so far
God, I used to have the biggest actress-crush on her. Then she got too skinny as she got older. Sad.
please some regression on crawford’s day. please.
while it’s great that statistical recognition is going mainstream, it maddens me how many people cannot grasp regression. just as there is no such thing as the “law of averages”, crawford does not experience regression in just a couple of at-bats. regression to the mean requires a substantial sample size.
/frustratedrant’d
cmon offense…
Yankees break out right here.
Yup…3 runs
Let’s see some hits first.
I believe before I see
So far, so good.
1 more
And there is the 3rd run.
nope…. not against the Rays.
Damn spoke to soon. Tex to give me a Karmic slap in the face..
Pwned.
Ya think?
ROFL the Yankees just told you to STFU hardcore, dude.
Good call, champ.
The Indians? Again the mass Yankee fans makes me shed a tear.
That made no sense.
None. There were 3 good options and one bad one, and the Yankee fans picked the bad one.
Well, they did provide the Yankees two players…
Yay Jetes.
Big hit Puma!
Aaaand he pops out.
Nice, Jeet. Now, let’s DO something!
yankees must capitalize, Jeter got on base!
Can anybody remember the last time Jeter pulled a ball over the head of an infielder ?
tee off on this fastball. He’s throwing it a lot. Attack early in the count, let’s go.
OOOH TEX!!!!!!
TEIX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
<3 Tex.
TEX!!!! And it was CRUSHED.
TEXY!
Tex murdered that baseball.
Tex!!!!
Waddya say, Alex? Now is as good a time as any.
By God, it’s Tex!!!!!!
You Texy Thing
LOL. I like that
OH SHIT GOOD THING RUN-PADDING MARK TEIXEIRA CRUSHED THAT ONE TO KEEP OUR RUNS SCORED NUMBER HIGH!!!!
/TheoreticalBabyCarlos’d
man… alex has been just missing on so many pitches since 599…
WOOOO TEIX!
An A-bomb?
A Cano bomb
Kevin Long is an incredibly good hitting coach.
The Yankees have had a clear plan this inning and have known what was coming.
The first pitch Garza threw to Jeter it was strange because it looked like Jeter was determined to swing at that pitch. It wasn’t like he reacted to the pitch and swung. The ball left Garza’s hand and immediately Jeter went to swing.
Then a very patient hitter in Berkman swings at the first pitch fastball and pops it up.
Finally, Teix swings at the first pitch fastball and crushes it.
They were waiting for the first pitch fastball. They knew it was coming and it paid off.
Yup…Yanks usually get to starting pitchers in the 6th
When they’re at their weakest.
Baseball is a game of patience.
They’ve actually scored more runs in the 3rd, 4th, and 7th innings than the 6th. But the basic point still stands, that they take time to adjust and see a pitcher a time before hitting.
Jokes aside do yall think 600 is messing with ARod?
I do.
Ehh not really. Maybe to some extent but not yet.
And I haven’t looked at his HR distribution this year so I have no idea if this is an abnormal homerless stretch this year.
No it’s not near his season high stretch without a home run. Quite far I think.
Somewhat.
He’s kinda been in a two month slump. This doesn’t seem like it’s out of the norm for him right now.
Once he gets 600, he’ll go on an absolute tear. TRUST IN A-ROD.
Off course he underperforms under pressure…
2009 postseason says hi.
Like the 2009 playoffs!
Oh wait
LOL, I think someone is impersonating Dalelama here, because this can’t be a real comment.
I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt and assuming he’s being tongue-in-cheek.
Not at all, just look at his post seasn vs. reg season stats with yanks, took him forever to hit 500, and i think 2 or 3 years ago he tied the April home run record with 5 or 6 games left and didn’t get it…admiitedly i am still bitter he left Miguel Cairo stranded on third with one out against the Sox in game 4 in the bottom of the eighth with Mariano warming up…believe it or not i knew we were in trouble then…one of those things in sports that when you let a team off the hook it comes back to bite you…my mental scars still haven’t healed from that Bosux series and I still blame Arod!!! LOL
It can, from him. Trust me.
Last year’s playoffs disagrees with that.
/sarcasm’d
/a 50-50 Guess’d
/PeterAbraham’d
He’s no David Ortiz, right Dalelama?
Sensational HR from Teixeira.
Cano expands the zone to get to 3-2 only to strike out looking.
You dont see Cano striking out looking much.
Ump’s been giving the outside corner liberally, but that was too close to take.
Even after that K, good lord, did anyone think Cano would be batting .333/.388/.572 at this point in the season? We all thought he was capable, but he’s just a monster now.
We all knew he could. It was just a matter of Cano putting it together. Now he’s the best player on the team.
anyone know Garza pitch count?
96
Daddy likes.
96, 66 strikes
He’s close to 100, but he’s got a rubber arm. We’ll definitely see him for the 7th.
Yankees will add a lot more runs in the 7th.
Garza has maybe one more inning in him. I’d rather we hit him then their pen.
Is Qualls in the Rays pen tonight? Just curious.
I heard he is, but I can’t imagine he comes into a close game.
DAMN.
That was crazy.
nice shut down inning Javy
hit the fucking C ring
Javy just couldn’t go one game without a homer…
I would like Javy so much more if he didn’t give up so many big flies.
Joyce again
Oh my God, Joyce hit that one a mile.
Mirandaesque.
Wasn’t Miranda’s more of a long line drive. That one was hit to the moon.
Yeah.
Fuckberries.
Darn it
Matt Joyce has now gained the reputation of Yankee killer and will never lose that title.
Also, Javy is pissed.
Damn, that was drilled.
It was a John Daly “grip it and rip it” job.
hmmmmmmm
MATT JOYCE AHHHHH.
sixdegressofedwinjackson
This is all my fault for going on about how hot Matt Joyce was before ;_;
OH SO IT’S YOUR FAULT!??!??!??!
Dammit, bex! You have betrayed us!
For the sake of the meme, she also betrayed Andy.
Andy knows I love him desperately.
He is pretty effin’ hot. I just really hope he dies right now.
Totally agreed >:(
Matt Joyce is a lean-sharp thorn.
Matt Joyce has lighttower power. Somebody on here yesterday was all amazed that he crushed one.
He was swinging out of his shoetops, too.
They must have not seen his CF grand slam in Minnesota.
Time to light up Garza. 3 runs should do it.
Seems like every series we have at least one scrub hitting us well.
But, he’s not a scrub.
Matt Joyce in the minors: .275/.362/.466
Matt Joyce: Not a scrub.
This game: we’re still gonna win it.
Fat Elvis comes through in the clutch.
Did Tampa or Detroit win the Edwin Jackson/ Matt Joyce trade then? I say it worked out all right for both teams.
I’d agree. Win-win.
Let’s go Yanks. This is the inning to put up a crooked number–we’ve got a better chance against a tired Garza than their bullpen.
Work that pitch count, Nick.
Swish!!!!
SWISH!!!!!
BOOOOOOOYAH!!!!
(opens bat-wings)
This cracked me up.
It’s so my new favorite YouTube clip.
Instant classic.
Nick Swisher just crushed a MEATBALL.
And Nick Swisher says “Joyce who?”
SWISHHHH!!!!
Nick!!
Hell. Yes.
Swisher Sweet.
I love Swisher
the Rays killer.
wooooooooo
Wait why is Carlos Pena out? I’m watching on Gameday
They haven’t said yet.
Nice Swish. Not gonna fool him a 3rd time
well look at that… the “very good pitcher when he is on” seems to be just a good pitcher that he is….
Think you guys call that regressing to the mean.
Your consistent failure to be pithy or relevant is humorous to me.
good thing I am not worried about your sense of humor.
But, I can’t wait to see the major props you’ll get for your comment…. Congrats.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jealousy
LOL!!!! Nicely played. Did you update the Wiki page before you posted the link so that it would favor your comment?
Swisher knew the curve was coming again for the 3rd straight AB. How he got up to that one I don’t know though. Impressive…
For a regular-season game, this is pretty fuckin’ epic.
1-0, 1-1, 2-1, 3-1, 3-3, 4-3, 4-4
yeah pretty good game.
I figure I will just copy and paste part of my comment from above
Kevin Long is an incredibly good hitting coach.
The changes Swish made in just one offseason are amazing.
All of that.
garza’s really bendy.
That got it Cerv…
Love Cervelli, but if he didn’t think that was a strike, that should worry the pitchers.
Don’t blame the ump for sucking balls.
Swish has been gravy all season. The fact that he’s improved from a low average, Three Outcomes player to a high average version is impressive. I’m confident K-Long can work his magic on Grandy like he did with Swish. Also, Gardner’s IsoD of .100 is lovely.
I bet Kenny Williams doesnt watch Yankee games and doesnt pick up Cash$$ calls anymore. What a trade.
Swishahouse
I’m anticipating the Lance Berkman/Chad Qualls matchup that we’re going to win.
Berkman hits a mammoth two-run homer and we go to sleep happy.
Note to Michael Kay: Nick Swisher adjusting to Garza’s curveball isn’t “the game within the game.”
It’s just the game.
It’s Beyond Baseballâ„¢.
These players need to move in with Long this offseason
Gardner
Cervelli
Granderson
Teix
Just all get a hotel in Tampa.
Did you leave out the leadoff guy?
Steinbrenner’d….(the third baseman)
Lol
But Gardner and Teixeira have been doing well…
Why Gardner?
Because he has lots to improve, so he can go to Another Level ™
What’s wrong with Gardner and Tex (after April)?
Well I assume they want Teix to be a beats hitter in April so he wants Long to work on his swing to get it back to form early. And I don’t know about Gardner.
I know the bullpen’s a man short tonight, but I’m nervous about another inning from Javy.
interesting
Yes Teix
I am tired of his slow starts.
+1
Has kerry wood joined the team or is he in transit?
In transit. We’re playing with a 6-man bullpen tonight.
Interesting, then why DFA Park before Wood arrives.
Because you have to. 40 man moves must be made immediately upon completion of the transaction.
The only other option was to DFA someone else to wait a day to DFA Park, and that would mean we lose two players instead of just one.
Oh wow. I didnt know that, I didnt know that he had to go into the 40 man immediately (but it kind of makes a lot of sense). Its not the same as callups to the 25 man. thanks for the info.
I’m almost certain he’s unavailable tonight.
We’ve gotta hope that Boone can get two outs, and then go to Robertson in the 8th.
I think Kim mentioned he was in transit during the BP show.
He won’t be there until at least tomorrow.
I like how it’s “at least”, implying that Cleveland is a third world country and shit and you can’t guarantee actual flight service or running water being available within 24 hours notice.
Lebron’s departure caused Cleveland to shutdown a couple of terminals at the Hopkins airport.
thats why Lebron left
WTF is “Cleveland”?
I love how ARod’s pursuit of #600 on the road has birthed this great new meme.
Shit, I remember you and I initiated this meme but I can’t remember which thread.
Me neither. The first reference I see is from the Josh Tomlin gamethread, here:
http://riveraveblues.com/2010/.....ent-993230
I used to live in Akron. I cant tell you how much Lebron meant to that area. You should watched the local newscasts when Cleveland landed the #1 pick. Until he arrived the cavaliers local tv ads used to invite fans to watch “Darius Miles”.
My Jake field experience: Once when i went to an A’s-Indians game there were so few seats occupied, that they moved folks from the top tier to the lower ones. I got moved from the $5 400 level seats to 1st base side 100 level seats. I think it was maybe 8-10K occupancy.
* should have
He was actually in Toronto, not Cleveland. I don’t know if that means he has to head back home before traveling to Florida, which is why he’s delayed, but Cleveland played in Toronto.
Touche. My retort: Toronto should be EASIER to get out of than Cleveland, since it’s a real actual city and shit.
I think Canadian cities are just as bad as Cleveland.
He was in Toronto, hence a different country.
This is less than ideal.
walks #9 hitter on 4 pitches.
/when you know a pitcher is ready to come out.
Jeter is jeter at this stage he will not change.
Gardner is still not fully developed as a hitter. His power this year is a sign that he can be a 280s guy with 10-12 hrs a year.
Please use the reply button. Thanks in advance.

Hip Hop Hooray!! Old-school at the Trop.
I know he’s been pretty good lately, but I just can’t avoid thinking about Logan’s prior suckiness everytime he comes in a game.
It’s post-traumatic stress disorder. Let it go, man.
Woooo-sah. Woooooo-sah.
Please be the good Logan not the scrub.
Good job by Logan
I really like this Boone Logan.
Logan. GJ.
Boooooooooooooooone.
Remember when Boone Logan sucked and everybody called for his head?
Fastball up. Change up down.
Whose gonna hit some Benoit balls?
\TSJC-nip
Man, Sensitive RAB Guy’s wife is gonna sleep like a baby tonight.
Logan’s fastball is extremely tough to hit as a LHB when he throws it for strikes and as long as he throws strikes with that fastball his ok slider will be effective as well.
If he has refined his control he is going to be a better pitcher than Coke.
A-Rod game winning HR this inning? PLEASE…
Fat elvis goes deep here.
Ehhhhh, not so much.
This series is awesome, minus the loss, and how about this Boone Logan motherfucker?
Anyone know how many runs we’re losing over the rest of the season by not having the optimal batting order out there?
Bah.
Uhg, not a sparkling debut, the tabloid media will go insaine.
*insane
OK Berkman will need some time to adjust.
Bust
Berkman is now a bust!!!
I love channeling negative comments through you.

When exactly did Joaquin Benoit become unhittable?
I’m being 100% serious, he’s on Another Level ™ /Flaherty

Berkman sucks, what a terrible trade
/troll’d (was gonna call out people but decided against it)
I know there’s a game on and fat elvis is a bust and yadda yadda but Tim Redding of all people may force the yanks hand into giving him a spot start. The guy’s been a beast.
Also everybody point and laugh at Casey Kelly!
What happened to Casey Kelly?
He’s been sucking this year.
He is letting them hit him. There is no other explanation
3 innings 7 runs today
To be fair he’s still a great prospect and has excellent stuff – and he’s pretty young and only recently converted to a full time pitcher. However, he’s approaching an era near 5.5 at this point and obviously isn’t the uberprospect that sox folks were hyping him to be (i’d even argue kalish or iglesias are their best prospects right now).
Nice to see DRob getting back in the flow.
Drob or Joba?
This is the most I’ve been excited about a game since the WS.
I go to Joba here because like the article in here Joba is better with no one on base
Where Drob is a fireman type
Me too.
Don’t want to mess around with Longoria and Joyce coming up in the inning. Going with your best non Mo reliever for the teams best hitters.
This would’ve been my thought process too.
Uch, I woulda put in Joba.
After 2 innings yesterday? I would stay away from Joba as long as I could.
Joba to teh 10th
its amazing how bad th yanks look against tampa….very frustrating
Were you saying this two weeks ago at the Stadium?
You do know the Rays are the second best team in the majors?
Funny because this is a tie game, so I could say the exact same thing about the Rays.
It is amazing how bad the rays look against the yanks.
Well done.
You mean the team the Yankees perform the worst against is the best team they face? Go figure!
One of the best players in baseball? MVP candidate? All better descriptions and more glowing than “all star”.
/OmarInfante’d
Well Joba did pitch 2 innings though he didnt waste many bullets.
I like Robertson here. Joba went 2 innings yesterday, this gives us the chance to get him a night off if we score in the 9th.
that C ring homer is in the 500ft range of a normal stadium.
Yeah, that Joyce homer was impressive. I’m not even mad, that was amazing.
C ring, Benoit balls, deep and thick….wtf?
We also added some Puma and some Wood today.
Let’s see the 2-2 curve.
Thank you.
Outstanding work from the Yankees pen so far.
GJ, D-Rob.
D-Rooooooooob
Good, he’s ready for the 9th if we don’t score.

What? I’m in the DC market, as well. Its airing on the MLB Network for us.
The gf and her roomies still haven’t gotten mlb network despite my 40 minute ppt presentation on the value it would add to their townhouse.
I admire your relentlessness.
(TWSS)
You appear to have a computer though. Why not try getting mlb.tv?
what is this mlb.tv that you speak of?
googling now
It’s basically MLB Extra Innings on your computer. I don’t have it, but I believe several people on here do.
Not bad, 40$ a yr.
Thanks man.
I do what I can.
Heh, with the homers and the clutch, Robbie is just fucking with A-Rod’s head now. ;P
The wind must be blowing out tonight. Homers are getting crushed.
That was a fucking BOMB.
damn. What would we do without Robbie.
Was Cano on the potg poll, because he has 2 doubles and a game winning (Mo-willing) HR.
He wasnt…silly to have it so early
Me thinks Arod wants to hit #600 @ YS.
MVP!!!!!!!
CANOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Why did “MVP” get eaten by the spam filter?
I don’t know. I’ve tried a billion times.
Hahaha IETC
TOTAL DOMINICATION
/self-reference’d
Nice
Hey, I took this name just for these situations.
Let’s wrap this baby up. Enter Sandman.
Gardner with a classic expression to Cano’s HR.
Didn’t Miranda hit the scoreboard with his first ML HR?
I think Miranda’s first ML HR was the longest HR in Trop Field history.
Damn that fine swing. On the team, only A-Rod’s is sweeter.
We need to find a way to hack into the Trops sound system and cue Enter Sandman…..we can do it , we are deep and thick
Nothing like blasting Enter Sandman on your computer when it can’t play for real.
lol
this is a good call (added to grooveshark)
Let’s go Mo!
This lineup proves it’s deepness and thickness.
If Cano doesn’t get some serious MVP talk, I’m gonna be as mad as I can get about MVP voting (not much, but still)
I’ll bring the pitchforks. The only guys ahead of him in WAR are 1st baseman.
If Cano loses out to Josh Hamilton, I wouldn’t complain. But he probably should beat out any other candidate thus far, even the twin titans of 1B of Miggy and Morneau.
unfortunately they’ll probably just look at ops and all three will finish ahead of him
Morneau’s been out for so long, unless he has a monster last however many weeks he’s able to play, I don’t think he’s much of a candidate now.
I put nothing past BBWAA voters.
Nothing.
I wonder where Edinson Volquez will finish in the ROY voting this year.
Cano was still .1 behind him in WAR going into tonight. Probably ahead by now, but still.
Personally, I couldn’t vote for a 1B this year. There are so many good ones that I find it impossible to say that one is more valuable than the 2nd or 8th best 1B. In fangraphs parlance, this means that the positional adjustment for 1B has become way too little (should be more negative).
For example Cabrera, Votto, Morneau, Youkilis, Huff, Pujols, Gonzalez, Fielder, and Teixeira are basically interchangeable this year. In contrast, for LF Hamilton really stands out and for 2B Cano stands out.
It’s okay, Lance. Kevin will fix you.
lol
S-Rod? Just stop Michael Kay. Please.
It’s sad how the crowd is louder cheering for the Yankees than the Rays.
Though I do appreciate that the Yankees fans in Florida didn’t bring cowbells.
I was actually having a difficult time making cupcakes and figuring out what was going on based on crowd reaction earlier. I’m not used to the Rays having more than 5 fans cheering for them at home.
/unnecessarily bitchy.
I want some of your cupcakes, Kit.
/doubleentendre’d
You both disturb and amuse me.
I’ll take that as a compliment, thank you.
I was hoping you would.
Get ‘em, Mo.
haha awesome. Robbie hit it right near the Dominican flag hanging in the crowd.
I noticed that too. He’s awesome.
A-Rod sitting between Cano and Tex asking for the extra distance from their homers to create one for him.
One more and we walk out of Tampa in first place regardless of tomorrows outcome.
Dammit
The only hit that Mo can give up.
Officer Palumbo: BULLETS!!! MY ONLY WEAKNESS!!!
HOW DID YOU KNOW!!!
I was reffering to broken bat bloopers.
I know, just riffing.
Damn broken bat bloopers. Oh well, comes with the territory.
I hate those broken bat hits against Mo.
It is amazing how bad the Rays look against the Yankees.
Mariano showing Soriano how it’s done.
It is amazing how bad the Rays look against the Yankees.
ZZ with the pwnage.
Ugh this makes my joke look so uncreative ;_;
YEs!!!!!!!!!!
yes
Good win. Good game. Good baseball.
1st place is safe
Great, great, great, great, great win
We look so terrible against the Rays.
Damn right we do. It’s so depressing.
Am I the only one thinking the Blue Jays and Nationals are going to regret not trading their trade chips at the deadline? Do the Blue Jays even take advantage of their draft picks?
This series might be the epicest? 3 game series in a long time.
I know it was a four-game series but that Yankees/Sox series in August last year was freaking incredible. Same with the Reds/Phils series right before the ASB this year.
Yeah, I was thinking of the Sox series, so that’s why I said 3 game.
yow, what a great game we got.
The mediocre team has beaten the better team. Its called Fluke.
/ baby Carlos’d
Great win Yanks!!!
That’s how you win right there.
… And look, no amateurish celebrations for a game in July. That’s class.
It always amazes me how Mo shows no emotion for anything other than a title clinching game. If I had his talent, I’d be fist-pumping like nobodies business.
Yea no kidding. Like I said, that’s class.
Did you have a Cano filter on your TV???
Boo Hoo Rays 7 game winning streak…toast.
Leaving Tampa still leading the division.
Soriano is having a decent year KIm, but it seems like a pretty random and some what exaggerated statement for the situation.
Wow, I was thinking she said Soriano (alfonso) instead of Cano, epic fail.
Order restored
Cano is the best post-game interview by far. lol
It has to piss pitchers off so bad to hear that voice coming out of the guy that just destroyed them.
That was the deepest, thickest win of the season.
That will get old never.
I want LL Cool J to come out of retirement to record the track “Deepest, Thickest” in honor of this Yankees lineup.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=geU8D8Oywos (Safe For Work, Not Safe For Life)
God, non-melodic rap is just so bad.
I don’t think you need to say safe for work at 10:30 on a Saturday.
/nit-pick’d
Hey, not everyone gets to work a ‘normal’ schedule.
OK, but if you’re a nightgaurd or something, chances are noones at work to see you, and if your at a fastfood joint, you don’t have a computer. If your at the hospital or a office job, and for some reason are there at this time, you probably are so busy you ain’t watching.
/debate champion’d
Ok, I guess I’ll give it to you since I’m kind of a combination of a couple of those reasons.
BOOOYAH!!!
(opens bat-wings)
/stolen’d
//sorry
You’re not stealing it, you’re growing it. I approve.
anyone got a total on Deep and Thick comments ?
20, including this. I must say, I’m dissapointed with you people.
I know at least 10 were mine. I cant say it enough. Im goin out now and spread the deep, thickness to the masses
The number has gone way up.
*It’s thickened and deepened.
I blame myself.
I went with
and
when both the Tex homer and the Cano homer should have been
DEEP AND THICK!!!!!!!
That’s two big missed opportunities for me. My D&T average with RISP average just went down.
new stat for RAB…D&T average
HOW MY ASS TASTE GARZA!!!!!
I do not think Garza is thinking about your ass.
Great win. The Yanks looked great tonight, showing why they’re the class of the league.
Amidoingthisright?
Not enough deep and not enough thick.
I think Mo’s WAR just thickened.
Did it deepen too?
oh, yes, judged by the lumps in their throats, bwa ha haa. They couldn’t swallow, just cry, poor things.
Deep and thick win tonight. Love it.
What a fantastic win. Definitely one of the more exciting game of the year.
VolCANO erupted on Rafael Soriano
Laying it on thick, nice.
With CC going tomorrow, it’d be so awesome to come back and win this series.
Yup. CC is thick, and he goes deep. He fits this team perfectly.
haha, walked right into that one…
Apparently the song “Hey Joe” played when Girardi replaced Javy.
Brad Lidge just blew the game by giving up a walk-off HR to Ryan Zimmerman.
We are heavy favorites tommorow, but you I’ve heard baseball can be quite unpredictable at times.
“You just cant predict baseball”…..Sterling’d
From Pinstripe Alley “Since May 8th, Houdini has pitched to a 2.22 ERA”
Remember when Mo was finally going to start regressing this year? Batters’ OPS against this year: a Kevin Cash’esque .394
The best in Mo’s career.
Dude, the guy is 40 and an absolute freak of nature. It’s fair to wonder, and you’re glad to be wrong.
Mo has the best era of his career by a whole .45, and his best WhIp buy .025, and his best era+ by 110.
its too bad this is the year of the no hitter of we’d hear cy rumblings again
All Yankee hits XBH
Life Begins at 40
Dear Mo
Please tweek Woods cutter to be just like yours.
Rays are 19-7 in July. Three of those seven losses were to the Yankees. Obviously, the Rays just can’t beat the playoff-caliber teams. And they look so bad against the Yankees.
(Sorry, couldn’t resist. DEEP AND THICK. That better?)
I think we were also. we didn’t lose two games in a row all month.
Does anyone have a link to video of Salty balls throwing 5 hoppers back to the mound?
LOL at arods post game interview
A-Rod having fun making fun of himself in the postgame interview. I love it.
http://nomaas.org/2010/07/cashmans-got-wood/
They’ve gone longer between blasts than Alex has, but this one is just dah bomb.
Is that Kerry Wood in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?
So who are the potential waiver candidates for utility infielder and possibly innings eater SP? Obviously pretty bottom of the barrel either way since we’ll be claiming last or next to last.
Huge win. D Rob’s outing was really impressive.
yeah, bo. He was.
