Brandon Laird, 3B: 0 for 2, 1 K - left the game after fouling a ball off his ankle, and it doesn’t sound too good … neither Laird or the trainer was around after the game, and he’s already backed out of the Eastern League All Star Game, which is obviously a bad sign

Dellin Betances: 2 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, 3-0 GB/FB – first time he’s gotten knocked around since coming off the DL … this is a good thing, you want him to face adversity to see how he rebounds

Noel Castillo: 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 1 WP, 2-1 GB/FB

Low-A Charleston (3-2 win over Rome)
Kelvin Castro, SS & Neil Medchill, LF: both 0 for 4 - Castro K’ed & committed a fielding error

So, um, should they promote Sanchez to SI?

    • http://www.retire21.org Mike R. – Retire 21

Stop drooling over 17 year olds in the GCL.

        MEME!

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime-Jesus & Maquinito FTW

So, uh, when do we start to worry about Slade? Does Charleston not have a beat guy covering it?

Also, “14 for his last 37 (.378), dropping his season AVG to .413″

There is something wrong with that sentence ;)

  • futureman

You know that cat Sanchez is a bad mother

  • Reggie C.

Give Sanchez another 40 at-bats and see where he’s at. After 100 At-bats, if Sanchez is still sporting an OPS north of 1.00, how challenging could GCL pitching really be for Sanchez?

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Let’s see what happens after squatting in the Tampa heat and humidity for another month before promoting him.

      • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime-Jesus & Maquinito FTW

Are you telling me the Dominican isn’t hot and humid in the summer?

[If this is the longest season Sanchez has ever played, it’s a legit concern, but if Sanchez has been catching for years, such as they are, at home, Tampa can’t be all that worse than the Caribbean in the middle of the summer]

        • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

He’s never played against this level of competition for an extended period of time. There’s no rush to move him.

          • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime-Jesus & Maquinito FTW

            Ah, très bien.

          • emac2

If they start pitching around him I would think he is better off being promoted.

There might not be any reason to rush him but there is no reason to leave a profession baseball player at a level where he is simply better then the other players.

There are a lot of steps before he gets to the majors and it isn’t important that he learn anything specific before he moves up to the next level.

    • http://twitter.com/dpatrickg Dirty Pena

      He’s 17, what’s the rush?

      • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime-Jesus & Maquinito FTW

It’s probably my fault for getting so excited about the kid and then forgetting he’s just 17.

        • http://twitter.com/dpatrickg Dirty Pena

I’m just glad you don’t have to change your name. Hopefully enjoying the first part of the name will tide us over til the second part gets here.

        • Reggie C.

I’m just hitching a ride on your Maquinito campaign. Being mindful that the kid is 17, and that the NYPL league is stocked with recent college signees, it’d actually be quite a change in scenery for Sanchez.

I’m not too sure how many more games are left in the GCL, but Sanchez has the inside track to being named BA’s Top GCL prospect. No way prospect hounds can ignore Sanchez at that point.

      • Cecala

Agreed, there really is no rush, if he continues on this absolute tear though through the halfway point of this season, why not upgrade him to SI so I could watch him play. What is the harm in that?

        • http://twitter.com/dpatrickg Dirty Pena

Well other than a desire to see him, I think a strong finish in the GCL or NYPL ends up with a start in Charleston. Personally, I don’t care where he ends if that’s the case.

          • Cecala

I know what you mean, I wouldn’t be surprised if he skipped a few levels and got the Slade treatment.

          • http://www.secondavenuesagas.com Benjamin Kabak

He’s most likely on the Montero Track. If he finishes GCL strong this year, he’ll play winter ball and head to Charleston next year.

  • phughesisgod

LOL. Heres when you know you have been playing for too long. SI has already used 2 hitters as pitchers and one of them has already pitched 2 innings.

    • phughesisgod

Damn’t. Mahoney blew it in his 2nd inning of pitching.

  • YankeeGrunt

    Five strikeouts for De Leon…ouch!

  • blah

The box score says Vech was 3 for 3.

  • Doug

remind me not to ask mike if someone’s a legit ML prospect ever again. brought up sosa the other day and he’s 0-11 since.

    • Brian in NH

You are cursed my friend. worse than the prospect watch and the madden cover combined

  • 28 in ’10

Like the Other Jose Ramirez at the bottom, look at what the Other MC did today, he said, hoping not to be banned.

Pitcher Change: Melvin Croussett replaces Victor Beriguete.
Nelson Aguida reaches on fielding error by shortstop Jamiel Orozco.
Dioni Dominguez walks. Nelson Aguida to 2nd.
Gabriel Lino walks. Nelson Aguida to 3rd. Dioni Dominguez to 2nd.
With Oswill Lartiguez batting, wild pitch by Melvin Croussett, Nelson Aguida scores. Dioni Dominguez scores. Gabriel Lino to 2nd. Missed catch error by pitcher Melvin Croussett.
    Oswill Lartiguez walks.
Pitcher Change: Jose M. Ramirez replaces Melvin Croussett.

I know, right? Did Jesus (the other Jesus) just hit a kid or something?

  • ChrisR

Slade has biceps tendinitis and will be out a few more days.

    • http://soxandpinstripes.net Angelo

      link?

    • Dave M

I get that when I play the outfield in Softball. It sucks.

  • Bobby’s World

Corban joseph didn’t play tonight for Tampa and earlier in the day Brandon laird went down hurt for Trenton.I don’t know i am just saying.I guess we will see,i don’t want to see a player get promoted because someone else got hurt.

  • Brian in NH

Kyle Higashioka, C: 1 for 4, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI – he doesn’t hit for average at all, but there’s definitely some pop in his bat

Seems like anytime this kid gets a hit its always a 1-4 night for him.

    • Ghost of Scott Brosius

My fondest hope is that he shows enough pop that we can use him as a trade chip, seems like he’s definitely an odd man out now with all the catching depth.

  • Dave M

Over the weekend they had Jesus fest in Vernon, CT. Not too far from my house. My kids asked what it was. I said it’s a celebration for Jesus Montero. Do you think I should tell them the truth?

  • Joe

Adam Warren to be promoted to Trenton via Josh Norria of the Trentonian.
