Game 121: Three out of four is always nice
ByIt’s a getaway day for the visiting team, which means we’ll play a matinee. I suppose this means lots of Gameday and radio followers. That’s always fun.
There’s not much to say before this one that we haven’t already said. Eduardo Nunez is with the team, replacing the injured Lance Berkman. A-Rod remains on the shelf, though the move to bring up Nunez, I would think, means he’ll be back and at DH in a day or so.
Lineup:
1. Brett Gardner, LF — seems he’s comfortable in this spot
2. Derek Jeter, SS
3. Mark Teixeira, 1B
4. Robinson Cano, 2B
5. Nick Swisher, RF
6. Jorge Posada, C
7. Curtis Granderson, CF
8. Austin Kearns, DH
9. Ramiro Pena, 3B
And on the mound, number sixty-five, Phil Hughes.

St. Phil overpowers the Tigers today. 6.1 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 8 K a nice little strikeout bounceback.
/gut feeling’d
I stand by my prediction.
/ballsy
Michael Kay really works hard to be unlikable, huh?
If we’re going back to the lefty leadoff hitter + Derek Jeter in the 2 hole scenario like the classic Damon/Jeter pairing that we eventually scrapped, I want Gardner stealing EVERYSINGLETIME he gets on first base.
I hate seeing GIDJs.
Seems like DJ is good for at least two groundballs right to the SS or 2B each game.
Rally killing double play
/Jeter’d
Hear hear
I like the fact that the Yankees are missing the greatest active home run hitter and their top two DH bats (Berkman and Johnson)…
and we still have a Tex-Cano-Swisher-Posada-Granderson power meatgrinder in the middle of the lineup.
The Yankees: We’re better than you.
DEEP AND THICK
This means Cervelli is gonna be catching a lot, doesn’t it? Someone please tell me it doesn’t.
…
…
Someone get me an adult beverage.
Burnett and Vazquez back-to-back means Jorge gets a little mini-vacation Fri & Sat, at least if Girardi sticks to assigning Cs to SPs. Also means the lineup could have Cervelli and either Nunez or Pena in it against King Felix tomorrow. I’m sure he’s excited about that proposition.
After this weekend (or whenever A-Rod is theoretically healthy enough to play the field), I suspect Jorge is going to DH practically every day til Berkman gets back.
I don’t know about that. Kearns and Thames would seem to gain the most ABs in Berkman’s absence, not Cervelli, especially since those 2 guys have actually hit lately.
I suspect we’re going to just keep doing what we’re doing.
Jorge catches 3 days, Cervelli catches 2. Maybe a day at DH for Jorge here or there, but nothing exorbitant.

OOOOH, SEGMENT 2! I love Segment 2. I really, really enjoy Segment 2.
Sincerely,
Minka Kelly
seems he’s comfortable in this spot
They really put way too much effort into analyzing the 31 AB he’s gotten as a leadoff hitter.
Over/Under: 4.5 changeups.
Under.
I’ll take the under, too.
I will go over
To further clarify the discussion in the last thread about playoff rosters:
The rules also say that if a player eligible for the postseason is hurt and can’t play, the team can request permission from the commissioner’s office to replace him with a player from the minor league system, with a few restrictions. The player must be on a minor league roster within the organization as of Aug. 31 and still with the organization at the end of the regular season. Also, an injured pitcher can only be replaced by another pitcher and a position player by another position player, although these positions don’t have to match.
So it is not specific position. Just position player or pitcher.
Thanks, gracias, danke.
To also further clarify the discussion in the last thread about the RedSox:
They’re dead.
http://cache.boston.com/images.....8_bgjt.jpg (safe)
hahahah. good one
WTF are the “RedSox”?
I believe that was a cop show from the late 1979-1983 featuring a large black man as a former detective who was kicked off the force after a mysterious drug ring tainted his urine sample. The show featured this ex-detective chasing this ring vigilante style to find the real truth. His sidekick was a white midget who after they won any big fight sequence who utter his catchphrase “laser show.”
It was removed from the air in 1983 and replaced with “Manimal” starring Simon MacCorkindale.

I’m really looking forward to watching Hughes today. I hope he puts a show on.
I will be Gamedaying.
For shame. Hughes is my second favorite pitcher on the staff to watch.
I miss watching my favorite pitcher
/obligatory bexy post’d
Pena dived into some pasta.
I missed a full week of baseball, as I was on a cruise, disconnected with the cyber world. This is going to take a little getting used to again!
I checked Hughes’ last outing and it didn’t look too good despite the win. I would love to see a nice bounceback on my return home. GO HUGHES!
use a boat, the only way to get around thats quicker than the traffic!

A lot of things happened while you were gone. Let me recap.
First, the world ended. Then, it stopped ending and came back to life.
“You can get fancy with ERA”
I’m shocked, SHOCKED that Rick Porcello has scuffled after being great. I assumed that “growing pains” was some bullshit myth, and that Porcello would dominate forever after dominating initially.
I can only now assume that Porcello will suck forever and never dominate again, since he’s not dominating now.
We should look at Porcello’s last four starts.
Is Kay already annoying or is it just me?
(Obligatory disclaimer that I would rather have him than FOX or ESPN)
I’ve got Sterling and Suzin
)))
fastball looks good today
I reeeeally hate the phrase “past a diving Pena”
On the plus side though, once he gets up we can see a dirty Pena often for hours at time.
You mean Pasta diving Pena.
Watching slowass mlb.tv at work, delayed by a few minutes
So tempting to read here or look at gameday to find out what happened!
get a slingbox, I’m using the solo, best $140 i’ve ever spent
Yeah, I’ve considered it, but I already pay for mlb.tv so I can’t really justify spending more just to watch a few Yankee games at work
You’d have to be able to watch them on cable in order for that to work. Unfortunately, YES isn’t broadcast in Arizona. Boooo Arizona!
effin A
EFFIN A, COTTON!
That’ll buy you one heck of a blumpkin.
Seriously…how the hell did he do that?
first inning 2 run HR curse?
That’s what happens when you don’t have a put-away pitch.
Bean him, he hasn’t been hit lately
maybe they should stop pitching to Miggy.. it’s definately not working.
Ugh.
——-
I’m glad Miguel Cabrera isn’t, and won’t be, a member of the Boston Red Sox.
/positivespin’d
QFT
It would be Manny Ramirez all over again.
Damn Hughes sucks!
Exclamation!
GTFO
I hate Miguel Cabrera and I hate people who think Hughes sucks just because he gave up a home run that just kept carrying out. If there was no wind, that would have been a pop up, but the wind is blowing out to CF.
Why does Phil even bother to throw a curveball? It’s such a horrible pitch for him.
Uhh, just because Miguel Cabrera hit a homer off of it that looked as if it just kept carrying, doesnt mean its a horrible pitch. Its actually a very good pitch for him.
No it’s not. It’s been a below average pitch for him all season.
http://www.fangraphs.com/stats.....itchvalues
Hughes’ curveball is pretty bad. Considering how his curveball was hyped it’s been a complete disappointment.
Obviously, it has to get better. But that curveball has so much break, which makes it pretty good. If he can get all the kinks straightened out, that pitch will be a great pitch.
If he threw it more often, maybe that ‘horrible’ pitch will get better!
0-2 count he gives up a single Will Rhymes.
0-2 count he gives up a 2 run home run after the count goes full to Miggy. So annoying.
It is annoying, but: sometimes young pitchers aren’t perfect. Heck, sometimes older pitchers aren’t perfect.
in his last few games he’s had way too many 0-2 to 3-2 counts, killing his pitch count
Sit down Damon!
SCORE
SCORE
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD
SCORE!
Yeah, I think it’s time to start making Johnny Damon beat you. The best hitter on the planet is insanely hot right now.
Haha, little do the Tigers know that getting a 2 run HR in the first inning actually decreases your chances of winning.
We need to get Miggy back on the bottle.
I prefer he goes back to the NL East
Porcello perfect game through one, this team sucks
/s
Imagine if Miggy had actually ended up with the Red Sox this year (assuming he would have a similar season).
There was never a good chance of that really happening. Detroit isn’t a small market team, they’d much rather build around Miggy than trade him for prospects, even in the wake of his DUI incident.
He’s way too good for the Tigers to ever move him.
Cabrera’s great, but you have to take Pujols.
3 years younger. Opp field hitter. Miggy in Yankee Stadium all day.
That.
I’d rather have the previous 10 years of Albert’s career, but I’ll take the next decade of Miggy’s.
Fun fact: Miguel Cabrera would have at least 11 extra home runs this year if he played in Yankee Stadium 82 games a year.
That’s not really a fact, that’s just speculation based on hit locations at Comerica.
Cabrera won a world series with the Marlins Paul
Walk Miggy already, jeez!!!!!!!
I’ll take Cabrera. Three years younger, fewer injury concerns.
But Cabrera has more off the field concerns, and is significantly worse in the field
Youth and health >>> Off-field stuff and first base defense
3 years isn’t a big enough gap to make age a deciding factor IMO
3 years is a long time. 3 years ago A-Rod hit 54 HRs and won the MVP. 3 years ago Derrek Lee OPSd over .900. I could do this all day.
Three years of age as a deciding factor is a shitload better than first base defense or off-field issues as a deciding factor.
How about the fact that Cabrera plays in the AL, while Pujols plays in AAAA?
Another 0-2 hit…man.
Yeah let’s forget what the strikezone is too ump. That’s lovely.
Carrying over from yesterday maybe.
Every hitter has been 0-2. Hughes needs to develop a put-away pitch. He was awesome his first time through the league because they didn’t have the scouting reports on him they do now. He needs to adjust to be successful.
He just needs to get more swings and misses on the pitches he does throw.
How does he do that?
If I knew, I would be on the mound right now. Or at least coaching
Maybe he doesn’t have swing and miss stuff with what he is throwing right now. Maybe if he worked on his change-up in the off season he could add another hurdle for the offense to jump over.
I’m with you. I hope he develops the curve as well. I was counting that as one of his pitches.
I meant the change up as well, not the curve.
But the curve too, ha.
His first time through the league was in 2007. I think the books been out on him.
Hughes already has multiple put away pitches. He just needs to learn how to use those pitches in a way to keep hitters off balance and get them out before the foul off ten pitches.
Right. That is what I was getting at in my above comment. He has the pitches. He just needs to learn how to make them more effective. Which will come with experience. Hopefully.
So, I go out to grab some lunch and when I come back the Yankees are down 2-0 with another Miguel Cabrera HR. Sumamabitch.
Wouldn’t it be nice if he threw his change up right here?
There is your change right there. Nice pitch calling, ha.
Good fielding, guys!
4-4-6-6 single play
LOL, gameday. An 84 mph pitch with 8″ break is not a fastball.
Ground ball on a change up?
Strike zone’s been awful so far.
Thats putting it lightly. Its a complete joke today. A pitch right down the middle and above the knees is a ball.
I mean, its a ball with this ump, but it should really be a strike.
We really need an editing feature here!
“D Jeter lined out to first.” What is this magic? I haven’t seen a line like that before.
This team could really use a power surge from Jorge right about now.
Walking is better for his health.
next year he’ll be running the bases on a rascal scooter and sitting on a stool behind the plate
Suddenly I’m picturing Jorge on a tricycle with chaps and a cowboy hat a la Happy Gilmore.
Not sure if serious.
I tried coming up with some sarcastic WAR-centered argument about how it’s better for his game too, but decided to just give it a pass…
hahah
Wait…the Yankees have SEEN Porcello before. This doesn’t make sense.
Young decent pitcher who’s had success in the past but struggled this year? Just face the Yankees and you can wedge a solid gem in your resume like nothing.
You do realize we’ve seen Porcello before, right? Like, this year, even? And that it’s the second inning?
I’d say “don’t say silly things, Rose,” but it’s far too late for that.
Heh.
No, Struggling players doing well against the Yankees is a separate meme from the pitchers never seen before.
What is a meme? I tried googling it but couldn’t find anything. I mean, I can figure out it’s purpose on here but i’m having trouble putting a strict definition on it. Do I pronounce it MEM or MEME? I’m obviously very intrigued by memes.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meme
Aaaaah wikipedia! I’m ashamed I forgot that site existed.
Pronounced “meem”. It’s basically a cultural idea. An internet meme has a slightly different meaning where it’s used to describe online terms that spread quickly.
http://knowyourmeme.com/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_meme
Pronounced meem (rhymes with cream)
Although I refuse to adapt and I still say mem-eh
You do realize we’ve seen Porcello before, right? Like, this year, even? And that it’s the second inning?
What does this have to do with anything that I said?
I’d say “don’t say silly things, Rose,” but it’s far too late for that.
Of what I said was silly…your response was hilarious. lol jk
I assumed you were bringing up the “can’t hit young pitchers/people they haven’t seen before” meme. My bad.
But really, Rose. If I just read your posts, I’d think we can’t hit any pitcher of any type, while having terrible pitching ourselves. Good thing I watch the games for the most part, then.
Me too.
/Doomsday’d
So, you’re saying that all Joba needs to do to get back on track is face the Yanks? Unorthodox, but I like it.

Did Michael Kay say the Tigers are in a pennant race? Wut?
(Oh look I see on Twitter all the Grandy haters came back out because of one at-bat. lols.)
granderson is a total bust. cashman should be flogged for signing him. long is a failure for his inability to fix his swing. the yankees are going nowhere all because of granderson, who sat too close to cervelli in the dugout and now does not try hard enough!
Breaking news: Rocket will be indicted for perjury in front of congress.
Breaking News: Nobody but Congress seems to care.
Agreed. Its really a wonder why they even try it. Obviously no one cares about this crap anymore.
They indicted Bonds, but look where that went.
If they don’t indict people who lie under oath, then why bother having people take an oath? It doesn’t matter if the public cares about it any more.
“It doesn’t matter if the public cares about it any more.”
And that is the problem. It should matter. But, alas, you are right. It does not seem to matter to them.
Nobody cares about lying under oathe anymore because nobody is nearly as religious as they used to be. Hell, politicians take an oathe that says they should defend and protect the Constitution and then once that’s over with they spit and shit all over it.
Nobody cares about lying under oathe anymore because nobody is nearly as religious as they used to be. Hell, politicians take an oathe that says they should defend and protect the Constitution and then once that’s over with they spit and shit all over it.Fixed.
According to you, anyway.
what is an “oathe”? Is that what “Barrack Obama” took?
Knowing him and his administration. Yes.
Wow, you know Barack? Can you get me an invite to the WH for some pick-up hoops?
Why are the people you support attempting to restrict the 1st and 14th amendments?
Indictments are only one step in the process. An indictment standing by itself doesn’t do a whole lot.
Those defensive plays got everyone back into the game. Fans and hitters.
/narrative’d, but also maybe true
/RAB glitch’d
Funny how Congress indicts somebody as useless as Roger Clemens for perjury…but when the President of the United States, an infinitely more important person (in theory), does it – it’s swept under the rug. No way the government does anything shady at all…no way.
Interesting…
Was Bill Clinton even a citizen?!??! I never saw his birth certificate, did you?!??!?!
William Howard Taft wasn’t a citizen…so when did we start caring about that anyway?!?!?
And he created one of the greatest catastophes in the history of mankind
FACT: every single US President has been a citizen of the United States, Rose. Even Taft and Obama.
You’ve had some dumb conspiracy theories, but this is your dumbest one yet.
Ohio was never actually formally admitted as a state. Therefore, he was not a citizen of the United States when he was born, elected, served his term, or even died.
They had to tamper with documents in order to “retroactively” go back to 1803.
As for Obama, his citizenship is the least of my concerns.
Ohio was never actually formally admitted as a state. Therefore, he was not a citizen of the United States when he was born, elected, served his term, or even died.
Ohio was a territory of the United States. People born in Ohio before it was a state were still citizens of the United States. People currently born in US territories (Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Northern Mariana Islands) are all citizens of the United States.
This is dumb bullshit, Rose.
In 1873, The United States Attorney General ruled the word “jurisdiction” under the 14th Amendment meant:
“The word ‘jurisdiction’ must be understood to mean absolute and complete jurisdiction, such as the United States had over its citizens before the adoption of this amendment. Aliens, among whom are persons born here and naturalized abroad, dwelling or being in this country, are subject to the jurisdiction of the United States only to a limited extent. Political and military rights and duties do not pertain to them.”
The Taft family weren’t “aliens”, Rose. Aliens would be people who emigrated here from another country. Taft didn’t emigrate to Ohio, he was born there. His parents were from Massachussets and were also not aliens. Being born in a U.S. Territory to two citizens who were similarly born in the United States makes Taft and his entire family citizens.
Seriously, Rose, this is literally the dumbest shit you’ve ever written, and you’ve written oodles and oodles of dumb shit.
Stop talking, you’re embarrassing yourself.
Also, what “dumb” conspiracy theories have I had?
I know a lot of you think everything is a coincidence around here…but sometimes there are just too many coincidences and the odds are improbable of them continuously happening conveniently during catostrophic events.
Also, what “dumb” conspiracy theories have I had?
All of them.
Typical rebuttle for people responding to conspiracy “theories”. Instead of providing the facts of WHY they’re wrong…they just use the old media driven “conspiracy kook” crutch as their response.
Everybody who has seen things, heard things, mysteriously died, etc. are all just crazy people who joined together to create nonsense. The government has always been truthful and cordial in everything they do…LOL
TSJC explained why you are wrong about Ohio and Taft. Everything else can be explained if you read this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A....._ignorance
Is “mainstream children” an accepted term?
No, but somehow it feels somewhat demeaning.
I don’t know what the context was, but it is in Rochester. Mainstream refers to integrating deaf and hearing students.
Walk him now!!!
Alright, no need to walk him
Tigers also will be joining in on the “Beautiful People” game afterwords and Verlander will be the starting pitcher with a full compliment of starters .
My Prediction:
Tigers:330
Beautiful People:0
Phil Hughes sucks, obviously.
I am so done with this team! Fuck Phil Hughes!
/thatotherjerseyguy
Theres a quick inning. There we go, Hughes. Wanna throw s few more of those quickies today?
7 pitch inning is very nice.
So…. I see the first time we faced Porcello this year, he went 7 and we lost 2-0…..
Michael Kay has no idea what the score is. He is now entering John Sterling’s airspace.
Miguel Cabrera just make an out?
.:Head Explodes:.
Is this ump kidding?
Attention:
We are now entering the pitch-around-Cabrera/IBB Cabrera for the remainder of the game zone.
Please keep your hands and feet inside the car at all times.
Thank you.
This ump is fucking up my universe. I’m like a mushroom cloud layin motherfucker motherfucker.
Cards trade for Pedro Feliz for some reason. For Carpenter!!!!
(Okay, it’s a minor league pitcher who they converted from catcher)
Pena should have knocked the shit of Porcello.
I will always love Porcello for showing eveyrone just what a sissy Kevin Youkilis is.

That. I love me some Rick Porcello and always will, for that alone.
Jersey! REPRESENT!!!
I mean, really. A cute Jersey boy who killed Youk. Be still, my heart.
For those of you lucky enough to watch the game…
How do the Yankee at bats look? Have they hit the ball hard at all?
Not really, but good infield defense has taken away a few singles.
Plus, the strike zone is comically bad which has been helping Porcello so far.
Jeter, Cano, and Tex have hit the ball hard but don’t have anything to show for it, obviously.
Nothing like watching the Yanks look pathetic against a pitcher with an ERA of 5.50
Get me his last 5 starts!
1-3 (1 ND), 30.2 IP, 18 ER, 5.36 ERA
It’s pretty frustrating. This series is eerily similar to that stretch before where we hit all the “good” pitchers and were baffled by the bad or inexperienced ones…
Hits are overrated, need to dig deeper to see how well they’re actually doing.
Per Gameday, this ump is ready to retire.
Normally when an ump is bad, it’s because he falls in love with a certain part of the plate (too many low strikes or something.)
This guy seems to be picking randomly.
It would be nice to the umpire union go on strike and clean house.
You Texy Thing
Just give him the Gold Glove!

Holy crap. That was wayyyyyyyyyyyy too close.
Kay is going to have a heart attack.
hahahaha. Kay was actually damn good with both of those calls.
Gotta give credit to Kay too when he steps it up.
Holy Shit!!! What an inning.
I thought that was going to be bad. Like watching a car accident as it happens.

Wow, two in a row!
That play just now confused the crap outta me. But yay, Gardy/Grandy!
Holy crap The Grandy Man can!
Nice play and all, but damn, Grandy and Gardner need to get together and talk some shit over. They can’t make a catch lately without having a conversation afterwards.
When you have two centerfielders out there, that tends to happen. Both of them can cover tons of ground.
I enjoy good defense. I’m glad we care about it.
Its too bad we don’t careabout it as much as the Red Sox.
We do???
/Neyer’d
eventful inning.
You always back off for the CF!
No way could Gardner could have expected Granderson to get to that. Both had to go all out for that ball. Luckily it ended well.
Saw my leftfielder (and coincidentally, my boss) get KTFO at my softball game Monday. Collided into the shortstop’s leg with the side of his head in the middle of a dive going after a blooper between the two. The sound was unbelievable. I thought he was dead. Completely unconscious for about 2 minutes and he is still having some post concussion symptoms. Bottom line, let’s just be thankful both are still playing.
Strike 4
And there’s 5.
After all the tension during last night’s game, I wouldn’t be surprised to see either Girardi or Leyland blow their top at this home plate ump.
I don’t think it’ll take much for Leyland to lose it. He’s been on edge.
I would have been tossed after Kearns got rung up on that garbage with the way Phil has been squeezed.
But then again I’m a total asshole.
Those 0-2 and 1-2 pitches would have been strikes against us…
Chad Fairchild – beer league umpire.
Chad Fairchild. what a name
He was hired as an UMP for his name alone.
This just in: I like Mark Teixeira.
I swear Jeter gets out of bed with an 0-2 count these days.
He does do a headcount when he wakes up.
And into bed with a knockout.

/narrative’d, but also maybe true
Here we go Swishhhh
After the 30-some-odd pitches he threw in the first, the box score indicates Phil seems to have collected himself. How does he look out there?
Definitely seems to have great fastball command. He was painting in the 4th.
Yea. He has been working fast and putting the ball over the plate.
Swishalicious.
Here we go, here we go
In play, run(s).
Some blue dots are just happier than others.
I wonder what Nick Swisher and Miggy Cabrera would talk about.

Pretty sure Nick would talk to anyone, even if they didn’t speak English.
Just no DP Jorge. No DP.
My man, 100 Grand.
Is anything more satisfying than watching Granderson get hot? Seeing what he can finally do at the plate has been a long awaited highlight to the season.
Is anything more satisfying than watching Granderson get hot?
Yes. Seeing the Yankees lose like 10 straight, just to shut all these stupid optimists the f#$% up.
Sincerely,
Jersey Johnny
It certainly is, since there was substance to the argument that the last couple years were a downward trend and not aberrations. He’s still in his prime though, and clearly capable of being one of the best CF in the game.
The Grandy Man Can.
Can someone please explain what happened? I thought the game was over already. Hughes apparently sucks and the Yankees can’t hit Porcello, so I’m confused about why they’re still playing and allowed the Yankees to score.
Nothing like watching the Yanks look pathetic against a pitcher with an ERA of 5.50
Cano makes that cross the body throw look too easy. its not that easy.
Phil Hughes sucks.
A tale of two Phils
Exactly. One that made one mediocre pitch to one of the best hitters in baseball, and one that has made mediocre or better pitches to everyone else.
Time for Phil to start mowing his way through this anemic lineup.
/Sans Cabrera
death, taxes, and AJax striking out.
Waaah no strikeout pitch
This is the Phil Hughes we all know and love. Painting the corners, getting swings and misses, breaking bats. Good stuff.
And he seems to have found his curveball. A lot more movement in it recently and he would’ve been able to throw more strikes with it if it had, you know, been called correctly as a strike.
I think that was the cutter on those close pitches, but his curveball does seem to have more bite.
But we were told that Hughes should stop throwing his curveball forever because it hasn’t been good for him so far.
Austin Jackson strikes out swinging. 129 Out.
He’s beating Hughes in the strikeout race!
hah i know this is meaningless but B-Ref has Austin Jackson as striking out on average 189 times per 162 games.
Anyone know the record for a rookie?
Pete Incaviglia. Something like 185.
Yeah…
http://bbref.com/pi/shareit/Ts2SY
AJax is already in 8th place. 128 in 110 games (not counting today). Mark Reynolds had 129 in 111 games.
Notice everybody in the top 10 has double digit HR numbers. Except Ajax with only 2.
Yup. Ajax is number 7 on the most strikeouts in a rookie season list already.
It really emphasizes how unworldly his BABIP is. How he can hope to sustain anything close to that is beyond me. But he’s done it really for 2 seasons if you include last year in AAA.
Surprised that Porcello has a sub 5 K/9.
they saw 8 pitches that inning.
Back to sucking against scrubs, apparently! They should just make up their minds, or something. Or we’re just overreacting to one inning.
Porcello is not a scrub
Not according to some people earlier!
Just realized…
Miguel Cabrera is the Gary Sanchez of the big leagues.
Miguel Cabrera is the Miguel Cabrera of the big leagues, hehe.
You see! He’s not a machi! HE’S A MAN!!!
MVP (3rd place)!
I put Cano 2nd place.
Big offensive production from a middle fielder>>>>>>>>>Big offensive production from a 1st baseman.
Yes, if they had the same production levels. But Miggy is OPSing a full 130 points higher than Cano, not counting today. Miggy beats Cano, Hamilton beats Miggy.
BWAR has Cano > Miggy, actually. Not sure what FWAR says because that site makes my computer spaz out of late.
He’s higher on fWAR too, because of the positional adjustment. I don’t think that matters if we’re talking about the MVP though. Miggy is straight up the better player right now by a decent margin.
Better hitter. Cano has a much more valuable glove.
Cabrera is no slouch at first anymore, but agreed.
Um, yes he is. WELL below average.
5.5 for Cano
5.3 for Miggy
But those all important counting stats will swing the vote in Miggy’s favor considerably. But it’s warrented in this case IMO.
I feel bad for Miggy that he plays in the cavernous Tiger Stadium.
Miggy Home: .438
Miggy Away: .452
Josh Home: .512
Josh Away: .371
This is wOBA by the way. No that .512 is not a misprint. He is that insane.

!!!!!!!.326/.376/.493!!!!!!!
Will live on FOREVAH!!!!!!
To be fair, that was a TERRIBLY weak year for MVP candidates. Hamilton or Sizemore were better candidates IMO, but Pedroia wasn’t embarrassing. I mean, it’s weird he has an MVP and not… like… others, but you know. He wouldn’t be in the talk for MVP this year with those numbers.
At the end of the season I’m going to enjoy (endlessly) pointing out how much of a better season Cano had compared to Pedroia’s 2008 campaign.
Hahahaha yes. And Jeter’s 4-5 seasons that topped Pedroia’s ’08 as well.
Without a racquetball court in LF for him to hit doubles off of.
Cabrera OPS: 1077
Cano OPS: 942
You are correct that production for a middle IF is a ton more valuable there is such a big difference.
iiiiiiiit is a ribbi doubble for Robbie Cano!!!!!
Cano may not win the MVP, but his stock as a hitter as sky rocketed this year and that long term deal is looking pretty awesome.
3-0 greenlights are very nice today
Man Posada is slow
HIP HIP
Release the floodgates.
RELEASE THE KRAKEN!!!!!
Ewwwwwwwwwww.
In a tight playoff game, this is where Thames pinch hits and Kearns takes over in LF.
Or is that more like bottom 7?
I had a nightmare last night that I was reading on RAB that we traded Swisher for Betemit and David Adams. Yeah, no idea.
If David Adams hadn’t broken his ankle, Cliff Lee could very well be a Yankee right now.
But Montero would be a Mariner.
You can’t get Curtis Granderson out. You just can’t.
I know he’s been on a hot streak but I was genuinely surprised he had an above-league-average OPS and OPS+. The way people have been talking about him, I thought he was at like 88 OPS+.
I just hope this resurgence sticks this time. He has “broken out” a few times this season, but always seems to fall back after a hot week.
This time looks and feels like he’s finally over the hump. He also seems to have gained a shit-ton of confidence since he began his mini-tear.
Just checking out Granderson’s stats and with this little hot streak of his numbers are virtually identical to 2009.
BUT WHERE ARE THE 40-50 HRS HE WAS SUPPOSED TO HIT IN YS3???
Don’t know, but man I was wrong thinking he was going to be an easy 35.
But he has no emotion. He’s a robot. He’s not genuine. He’s a scrub, he sucks…
No passion. None.
Just disingenuous!!!!
He’s disingenuous! I don’t really know what that means but everyone had NYYFans said he was.
http://dictionary.reference.co.....singenuous
Fake, basically.
I get disliking him as a player but if you think he’s fake, to me, that reeks of just trying to find something to dislike about the guy.
Hitting Coach Kevin Long >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Hitting Coach Lloyd McClendon
Yea, but has Kevin Long ever been thrown out of a game and stolen one of the bases in revenge?
I think not.
This is the year of the grandslam right?
No this is the age of the pitcher. The pitcher will never relinquish his hold on baseball and it just a matter of time where no-no’s and perfectos are ordinary rather than extra-ordinary.
/ESPN’d
I laughed really hard because this is exactly what they are like.
Well played.
Kearnzie!
That was like the same exact place Kearns hit it yesterday.
I reaaaaally like this Austin Kearns pickup.
Austin Kearns is better than Colin Curtis.
Kearns2010 = Hinske2009
That double by Kearns is nice and all, but a sac fly would have been better.
Kearns just drop shot Robbie Weinhardt in MW2
I would personally like to thank Peter Abraham, who said that Ryan Kalish was better than Berkman/Kearns because he had a better triple slash after 50 at-bats. I’m sure Austin read those comments and decided to put an end to that shit right away.
Awwww, now we don’t have bases loaded.
I like the cut of your jib.
So are they going to take out Hughes to try and keep his innings under control?
I would’ve guessed that, but it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen.
I’d hit someone if they do. Hes at 90 pitches and on a roll. Who the hell cares about innings limits. Let him go 7 and then go to the ‘pen.
Pitch around Gardenr to get to Jeter, who would have thunk it!!!
But it worked so well!
This is a situation where Gardner should be stealing.
But they have a 5 run lead, that violates the unwritten rules of baseball.
/Braden’d
Gardner doesn’t care about unwritten rules of baseball. According to Johnny Damon and the Tigers look at what he did 2 days ago.
Games with Paulie in the booth are much better than games without him.
Nothing would make my day any better than seeing Jeter with an extra base hit.
That’s amazing NOTE THE TIME!!!!
Based on the time stamps, you could have posted the first one after he hit the ball.
I demand seconds be included in the time stamps!
Seriously I pressed reply once the pitcher was in the windup. It was glooooorious.
Can I have the lottery numbers for tonight?
Kenny and Cone on the west coast trips were the best imo.
I miss Coney!
Holy shit Jeter
There we go.
Got a little Captain in you?
+2
One of Jeter’s best AB’s in a while
You know who gets that ball? Curtis Granderson.
(I kid, Austin Jackson is a VERY good CF from what I’ve seen. But I couldn’t resist.)
It’s true and it’s not because he’s bad, it’s because he went to the Little League School of Playing Way Too Shallow in Center presented by Justin Upton
I think it’s safe to say Hughes’ day is over.
See, the offensive malaise was all A-Rod’s fault.
/jk
The Yankees are a better team without A-Rod.
/PeteAbe’d
Great at bat by Jeter.
Only five more runs til this game becomes Gaudin proof.
Gotta love the RISP market correction
will the tigers start throwing at us now?
At this point they are just adding runs on to boost their Pythagorean W-L.
Run-padders.
/thatoneguy’d
ESPN needs some education about periods.
B Gardner walked. C Granderson scored, A Kearns to third on passed ball. Makes so much more sense than
B Gardner walked, C Granderson scored, A Kearns to third on passed ball.
agreed, was trying to make sense of that myself.
Nunez time?
On gameday it just said
“pitching change: Eddie Bonine replaces Robbie Weindhard. pitching change: Eddie Bonine replaces Eddie Bonine. pitching change Eddie Bonine replaces Eddie Bonine.” So unless the Tigers have alot of players named Eddie Bonine I can’t see how thats happening.
Hello? Cloning?
If it was Mo it would be possible. Because Mo is the only person worthy of replacing Mo, replacing Mo.
Wow, Leyland is micromanaging today haha.
1. Cashman is a ninja. Always has been, always will be. Kearns and Wood already paying dividends, Berkman will as well.
2. Am looking forward to reviewing all of the nails in the captain’s coffin at the end of the season when everything evens out and he puts up his usual solid numbers.
Don’t be so confident on # 2. He’s got a ways to go to get there. One shot to the wall doesn’t change it. Sorry to be a negative Nancy.
Definitely one shot won’t get him there…I do think, however, he will end the year with some of the better stats for AL shortstops.
Jeter’s full season numbers are going to be done this year because he’s struggled for so long this season. I expect him to bounce back next year, though.
Cano!
Dontchaknow!
Bombs away
DEEP.
AND.
THICK.
AND.
POWERFUL.
Chances that Hughes and/or Sabathia wins 20 games this year. Obviously, a lot is based on the offense, but if Sabathia keeps up his streak of quality starts there is no reason not to think he can’t pick up 4 more wins in the last 6.5 weeks. Hughes with the innings limit may lose a couple starts here and there and that may keep him at 18 or 19.
Unless he totally collapses CC will likely win 20. Hughes has a chance.
DAMMIT ANDY YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO WIN 21 (sobs)
Hughes has at least five more starts, then maybe then pen. He would need to win all his starts or get a couple bullpen wins too.
I’m still a little bitter that he went down right after they started talking about us having 3 pitchers with a shot at 20 wins. Somebody jinxed us and I demand satisfaction.
CC will, Phil won’t.
Too bad Pettitte got hurt. Would have liked to have seen him hit 20
21 would’ve gotten him to 250 in his career. I joked about him getting there before the season, but then he pitched so well.
But then HIS STUPID GROIN.
He’s at 140.2 right now. His innings limit is between 170-180(probably around 175). He could potentially have 6 more starts 35 more innings at 6 per start puts him at 172 for 6 starters. That puts him at 172.2. His turn comes up 7 or 8 more times. So he’ll miss 1 or 2 more starts depending on how he does in his starts. He’s at 15 wins right now(if Mitre holds on). He goes 5-1 in these 6 starts, hes at 20 wins. I’d say its very possible he can get 20 wins.
MVP (2nd place)!!!!
Leyland’s about to lose his shit
Wow.
Anything Jete can do, Cano can do longer.
Its the deepness and the thickness.
Cano helping out the fantasy team!
Save your hits for tomorrow.
This is bordering on cruelty to animals. I’m calling the ASPCA.
Call Siegfried and Roy.
I’m just hoping King of the Troglodytes is ok.
Cano heard the discussion about him and Miggy.
Floodgates released.
Should put Nunez in the game right? Right?
hopefully, good place to see what he can do
Hes in
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v.....verified=1 (NSFW)
You’re welcome.
Mitre to close it out? I don’t want to see anyone else besides maybe worthless Gaudin.
I’d love to get a look at Nunez at short here, wouldn’t be surprised to see it at some point
The Eduardo Nunez era has begun.
Somewhere Mike is shedding a tear.
Be careful Jeter! We may get a shortstop that doesn’t hit a groundball each time out.
/shotatJeter’d
jeets watches the heir….
Cito’s here?
Mike just read this and threw up.
A lot of range at Short and Third today
Everybody should go here (well the link inside this link) and sign up for the class action lawsuit being filed against Obama, Pelosi, and the rest of that administration constantly breaking the law.
http://riveraveblues.com/off-t.....nt-1047605
We the people!
Who’s this Obama guy? Did he take PED’s lately?
Him and John McCain probably inject each other on alternating Sundays. lol
Yea, he is being indicted soon. Pettitte will be testifying against Obama.
This gives me an amusing mental image
Maybe she means Osuna, the erstwhile Yankee reliever opposite of Chris Hammond?
I’d sign your petition, Rose, but I was born in Ohio, so I must not be a citizen.
You’re in luck! In 1953 they finally admitted Ohio to be a state!
Rose, Britain ceded Ohio to the Americans with the Treaty of Paris in 1783.
Follow me closely, now:
Every single person born in Ohio since the Treaty of Paris who was not an American Indian or a slave thus has been a citizen of the United States. Every single one of them.
You’re embarrassing yourself.
How is it embarrassing myself? It’s a legitimate argument. How many other people knew that Ohio wasn’t actually a state until 1953?
I’m willing to bet less than 5% of the people on here. Yourself included.
A.) Nobody new that because nobody cared, because it’s not important, because all those Ohioans born before 1953 were citizens anyway.
B.) You’re incorrect. In 1953, Congress retroactively granted Statehood to Ohio from 1803, so no, Ohio was a state before 1953. That’s what the word “retroactively” means.
Ohhh so all those people who didn’t make it until 1953 for when all that happened…knew via Doc and Marty and their DeLorean that their territory would soon become a “state”. I see. It all makes sense now.
They were treated as citizens of Ohio because the government didn’t start issuing formal proclamations of statehood until 1812 with Louisiana. Thus, they were de facto citizens of Ohio. Which is why the resolution proclaiming statehood that was passed in 1953 was declared retroactively to apply to 1803, because that’s when they were admitted to the union as a state in all ways except for the formal proclamation.
None of this matters to the issue at hand, though. While their status as citizens of a state of Ohio is murky, their status as citizens of the United States is not.
You literally have no clue whatsoever about Constitutional law. None.
But ask yourself: How is the Federal Reserve still around? They are an illegal entity that has no Constitutional basis. They will continue to suck the life out of America as it moves to Corporatism and destroys all human rights.
You what is in the Federal Reserve Bank? Nothing. No gold. Same with Fort Knox. The government will continue printing out money while illegally collecting income tax. Completely unconstitutional.
/Rose’d
I’d say that about 95% of the factual assertions that Rose has ever said here at RAB about the Constitution, citizenship, taxation, separation of powers, federalism, and any other facet of American government is wrong. His track record for thinking things that are true that are false is unparalleled.
It’s a legitimate argument.
No, it’s not.
What were you saying? I was too busy shitting on the Constitution.
Did you use the Declaration to wipe?
The answer is “Yes”
Calm down, that was a joke. I know they can be hard to recognize at times.
Congrats to Rose for winning an argument against an entire message board. ‘The left’ always takes their toys and go home when they can’t win. No different this time.
The Declaration is an illegal document. It is against British law. We are part of Britain.
Are you saying that a Revolution and cunningly tricking everybody into breaking the law of the Constitution are the same thing?
Are you saying Gorilla Warfare is better than helping sick people?
(See you can change the appearance of things by giving them a title)
What?
Helping “sick” people? Gorilla Warfare?!?
[scratches head and wonders if the world is really heading towards similarities in the movie Idocracy]
Idiocracy
Rose was serious about Ohio becoming a state in the 1950′s?
Yup. Because that’s when it actually became a state. Regardless of “retroactive” jibberish. While the people were living in Ohio during 1803 – 1952, it was not actually a state.
It was a state in 1803.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/O......93present
Please do not shit up the gameday threads with this fucking garbage. I come here to talk baseball, not listen to wingnut conservatives cry about the government.
Sorry Ross.
By the way, you should run for office. Your high demands for total control would fit in perfectly with what they have going on up there…
Wow. You really are a fucking imbecile.
Try to avoid personal attacks.
Correct. V shouldn’t personally attack Steve.
Rose also shouldn’t post political petitions at RAB. They both need to stop.
Let’s move on.
I thought Rose was joking about the petition. I didn’t even bother to click the link because of that.
Oh no. It’s very real. Very VERY real.
A very real waste of time.
I respect that you’re putting your time and energy into this, but I don’t think this is the right place.
Also, as someone said in the OT thread, none of these challenges have worked or will work. Changing the people in office is the only thing that will.
Explain. Is it because you don’t understand anything about politics?
Usually people who get as frustrated and angry as you, throw insults as a result of not being able to comprehend what’s going on.
So you’re attacking somebody about not understanding politics while throwing around a petition claiming that our president isn’t a citizen despite having a birth certificate? Wow……that’s something right there
No. That’s exactly what I’m NOT doing.
You, on the other hand, are chiming in as a part of the peanut gallery…throwing in your two cents without actually reading anything written at all apparently. Congratulations. Mission Accomplished. LOL
You accomplished your mission too.
You posted it in the off topic thread, nobody responded. You can’t handle that so you have to post it in a game thread to get a reaction from people.
I thought this was obvious to everyone. He has to get a response. So he posted it in two places after the first one didn’t work.
Yea, there was something from him in the OT thread yesterday and nobody responded to it. That didn’t help, I’m sure.
“I don’t like him so I’m going to jump to conclusions!” LOL
More people look at the game thread than the off-topic thread. It’s a fact. If I’m a salesman and I knock on the back door and nobody answers…you would probably then go to the front (if you already didn’t do so already)
Exactly, you need the attention and you didn’t get any in the OT, so you had to re-post it here to get the reaction you desired.
What salesman would go to the back door first?
Your analogy doesn’t make sense, because there’s clearly a topic here and clearly an off topic thread where this belongs.
I didn’t. The Yankees were up 9-2 (at the time) and I had just finished up a conversation about it during lunch so I threw it out there. No agenda. Don’t really care what you do to be honest. You obviously have no opinions of your own and rely on ganging up on people without any substance with your arguments though. That’s a neat technique.
Sorry, all of your conservative wingnut complaining seems to meld together. You’re attacking him on his calling you out for your crazy wingnut-ness. Seriously, I’m a conservative and I’m sick of people like you making the rest of us look like morons. Stop
Personally, I don’t care what you’re sick of to be honest. Seems like a personal problem to me.
Secondly, I’m not a Republican. They’re just as corrupt as the Democrats.
Thirdly, get me a coffee. I’m thirsty.
Rose, honestly, I think I can speak for everyone when I say we are all tired of your political stuff. Not political stuff in general. Just yours.
(Sorry if this is a personal attack, and the RAB guys can feel free to warn me if it is.)
Ohhh. I see. So any propaganda that is universally misunderstood is fair game…but anything with substance and concern we have to turn the other cheek or stick our head in the sand. I get it.
Sorry, but I don’t necessarily think that’s fair either.
Fight!! Fight!!!! Fight!!!
So not only do you have no clue what is and is not against the Constitution, you don’t understand the RAB commenting guidelines either.
Brilliant.
Do you know how many off topic conversations spiral out of control during game threads?
Just because you don’t understand ONE out of the many that occur…doesn’t mean that’s the only one that’s breaking the guidelines.
As for the Constitution. I know that you, and most people like you, don’t like it and want it destroyed. THAT, I do know.
Off topic? Yes
Inflammatory, baseless accusations about the man who has the most difficult job in the world? Not nearly as common….or tolerated
Guys…I just heard this shocking fact too…Robbie Cano also doesn’t have an American birth certificate!
Ok I just noticed the “destroy the constitution” part which is so awesome in its ridiculousness.
Rose KNOWS, Adam.
He KNOWS.
History books are all lies. The New World Order is in Phase 3 of Operation Amerika. At this point we begin to transform into drones to work for the Sociobots.
Impeach him.
Where do I say anything about Obama’s citizenship?
I’m confused.
Maybe if you guys actually could comprehend what you’re “reading” you would make more sense.
But if you don’t want to…have at it. Throw jokes around to one another about things that don’t mean anything. What do i care?
Do you know how many off topic conversations spiral out of control during game threads?
None? Unless you consider occasionally talking about the minor league Yankees as “off topic”
As for the Constitution. I know that you, and most people like you, don’t like it and want it destroyed. THAT, I do know.
And I know that most people like you are unintelligent bigots who use baseless arguments and empty one liners like “Taking back America” to hide their racism and hatred. Why don’t you go back to Fox News, where you can all talk about how America is turning to a Socialist state while you simultaneously collect unemployment and food stamps.
Oh you KNOW this huh? HAHA. Unbelievable.
You have nothing to back your argument up so you conjure up nonsense in your head and throw it out there hoping it sticks.
Sorry. I don’t see how the color of anybody’s skin has literally ANYTHING to do with…well…ANYTHING.
Sorry to disappoint you.
As for the Constitution. I know that you, and most people like you, don’t like it and want it destroyed. THAT, I do know.
What’s funny is, the party of Rose’s allegiance is currently launching hackneyed Constitutional challenges to overturn/subvert the 1st and 14th amendments.
To this thread: Please note the new addition, No. 12, in the commenting guidelines.
Thank you for your compliance. We’re obviously a fascist regime here at RAB, and we have to do everything we can to take away your rights.
That would explain all of your similar political allegiances anyway.
You have no idea what my political allegiances are. So please, can the act. This is a baseball site. This is a thread about a baseball game.
Burned.
That’s too bad. Use some sunblock.
Man, all this healthy debate has me really pumped up for Freedom Week™.
That I will respect.
Now I understand why some things are banned here. You put one simple thing up and people turn into barbarians doing everything in their power to insult you, put you down, jump to conclusions, etc. after doing so. And then you wind up with catastophe.
That’s definitely why
Yes, all of us are of the same feelings that your ramblings don’t belong here, this explains everything……
My “ramblings” were very real. Your rebuttles were the ramblings that lacked any substance and were basically made up of personal attacks.
Thank you Rose!
Mitre sucks
As much as I want to remain calm about this, I keep saying this to myself at the moment. lol
Mitre, c’mon, dude. >:(
Apparently Mitre got his hands into Gaudin’s cookie box before entering the game.
Ace Nova make it happen. Bye Bye Mitre/Gaudin
Bring in Rivera NOW!
11-3 and Wood has to get warm, what a joke
My Wood is always warm!
Now that is a joke!!!
Mitre is gave up a home run 2 someone who doesn’t know how 2 spell his name.
I missed the is when I started writing something different. Thought I should say this before somone says something about my gramatically incorrect statement.
You spell Peralta differently?
When his name was misspelt on the birth certificate his parents for some reason decided not to correct it. I think they were just being lazy.
Can’t wait to see what Cano accidentally calls his kid and then doesn’t correct it.
Son, because that’s about as lazy as you can get
There’s a Rose “Ohio wasn’t a real state and Taft was an illegal” joke in there somewhere.
Susan Waldmyn factoid of the day…She just realized when thinking about the Derek Lee trade that the Cubs will stop hearing questions about curses when they win the World Series. Truly insightful.
Ugh, finally, this inning is over.
GET NE PORCELLO’S STATS….(alams diet coke)
/Francessa’d
Cabrera is out of the game. Now I can relax.
My thoughts exactly.
So is someone going to give me Pena’s triple slash for his last 7 ABs and tell me he’s playing better again?
I got it for his last 4: .000/.000/.000
Gotta wait to see Nunie bat
Hey my name is Mitre. I suck.
Okay, I’ve had enough of Mitre for the day.
and now I’ve had more than enough.
MEATray
Pathetic Mitre.
Mitre has 6 outs and 6 runs to play with. I’m excited to see what comes first.
I can no longer relax.
We have 11 runs.
Eleven.
Eleven!!!11!1!1!!!
Just take him out already. I thing Nick Swisher could pitch better
I know Nick Swisher could pitch better.
Nunie!
Finalllly.
Not to be mean-spirited, but I wonder what CJ Henry feels seeing Eduardo Nunez come up (started in GCL at the same time) for his first at-bat, with Austin Jackson (also in GCL same time) playing in center.
Has to hurt.
Nunez!!!!!!!!!!!
/irrational excitement
Nunez is feared!
Valverde?? Is he in to hit sombody, then shit on the mound?
See the Tigers brought in the best bullpen pitcher they have to face Nunez because he’s so great.
Valverde is in? Are the Tigers fucking retarded or something? Do they think the score is reversed or do they think that they are in it?
Great just murder my only closer. Fuckers.
Jim Leyland is thinking: this worked for Joe Torre, why don’t I try it out.
They try to get him work at really weird times. Remember when he threw 60 pitches in an inning and almost blew a five-run lead? And Leyland was like “durf dee durf da durf I’m just gonna leave him in there.”
I’m pretty sure that was his exact quote, good memory.
I do know Valverde said something after that game that was like, “Well I’m ready to start tomorrow.”
THAT was funny. I kind of liked him for about .002 seconds after that.
When I think of Leyland, I picture Yosemite Sam. And in my head, he sounds like him too.
So it must be the tight pants that make his mind work crazy.
If I remembered the Family Guy quote, I would reply with it, but since I don’t, I think he was crazy since birth. The man is always angry.
I know what you’re going for so, good enough.
Well. That was anticlimactic.
Triple for the cycle!
Cano is lazy so he wouldn’t have gone for the triple anyway.
Everyone, thank Rose for the new guideline. No political talk, period.
Thanks, Joe.
It is a historical day here at RAB.
Like the day Ohio became a state in whatever year.
Sorry, sorry.
Can we still make fun of Sarah Palin?
If you can come up with a suitable liberal leader to make fun of, I would guess.
But you act like Palin is considered universally insane or something.
She’s not. She was a candidate for Vice President and is a popular conservative politician. Not a fringe lunatic.
In all seriousness then, because I sometimes do this, nothing referring to politics or politicians in any way, even as an obvious joke, is not allowed now?
Sorry, I don’t think we can allow that. I like ya, dude, but we have to enforce the rules universally.
No, that’s fine, I just want to make absolutely sure so I stop myself from doing it the next time it pops into mind.
Thanks for replying!
Like I said below, Rose’s batshit insanity has fucked it up for the rest of us.
Haha. I love how the fact that people can’t control their reactions to certain things is MY fault LOL
This is actually a good point. We should O:S comments like the above more often.
We shouldn’t have to O:S them, they should just be deleted altogether.
Yes, you’re the victim. You’re always the victim, Rose. It’s never your fault.
We’re infringing on your Constitutional right to say ignorant shit and not get called out for it. I’m sure that right is in the Constitution somewhere, I’ll be damned if some governmental propaganda machine is going to tell me otherwise.
I’ve taken responsibility for things in the past. Ironically, I can’t remember the last time anybody else has.
And by “ignorant shit” you mean “things that I don’t agree with and anything I don’t agree with I must overreact to and add curse words in front of”
No, I mean ignorant shit. Your petition is something I don’t agree with, but I didn’t give you grief for it. Your crazy idea that Taft isn’t a citizen, that’s ignorant shit, and I gave you hell for it, because it’s moronically stupid.
You’re literally the only one who commented on Taft. Everybody else overreacted and threw insults around about everything that WASN’T Taft. Most of which didn’t even read what was going on and thought the conversation was about Obama’s citizenship for whatever reason.
It must be fun to be you.
Deny it all you want, but you knew you’d illicit strong reactions and that’s what you wanted. So this is your fault. This isn’t your site. If Joe, Mike and Ben want to change the rules when it’s their site, well, gee, that’s their right, isn’t it?
Take responsibility much?
See, now how does this make sense?
Some of you are claiming that I had an agenda that because nobody responded to the same exact message in the off-topic forum – I HAD to post it on here to get a reaction.
Then the other half of you are saying that I knew this was going to get a reaction. Yet, the one I previously posted literally didn’t get any according to the other half.
Am I getting all this right?
Logic fail.
Not many people use the OT thread, particularly during a game. Rather than wait for the game to end and get replies in due time, you came over here and linked to the OT thread.
Why would you do that unless you WANTED a reaction of some kind? Either way you’re saying please reply to me one way or the other. Does that make sense?
That link was posted well before the game. Thus making your point moot and useless.
Fair enough. I didn’t look at the time stamp of your first post.
But you still refuse to answer the question of why you linked to that topic in this thread. My belief is that you did it because you wanted attention, you wanted a response no matter what it was, that you basically baited people. Mission accomplished.
Look, I don’t want to discuss this anymore. I don’t care for your opinions, you probably don’t care for mine. So I’m walking away.
Stop trying to cover up the fact that you’re not really a citizen, Pawlikowski. That’s not an American name and we all know it.
Rose, fucking it up for everyone else, as usual.
As long as Sarah Palin can still be mocked, this no politics rule isn’t that terrible.
That’s bullshit. Don’t mock conservative political leaders unless you’ll mock liberal ones too.
The rule is no politics. Not only make of fun of a conservative Alaskan former Governor, and otherwise no politics.
Is it political to say that Valvere should be water boarded?
No.
Umm Valverde.
You are wise RABbi, thank you for that.
I hereby christen Commenting Guideline 12 “The Rose Law”.
IETC.
Approved.
Aye.
I guess I’ll take the honor…but I don’t see how everybody not being able to control their reactions is MY fault?
Oh well. Long live the Rose Law!
There will be a coronation here tomorrow at noon. Chip will be placing the crown on my head.
but I don’t see how everybody not being able to control their reactions is MY fault?
Because you always say ignorant, inflammatory bullshit, Rose. That’s why you inflame the board, because your language is inflammatory.
How is my language “inflammatory”? Because YOU or somebody else doesn’t agree with it?
I’m not calling anybody out, swearing, being racist, or anything. Although, above, I was called a racist, an imbecile, etc. when THAT is actually against the guidelines and always has been.
It’s not inflammatory because we don’t agree with it, it’s inflammatory because you’re spouting falsehoods and claiming they’re factually accurate.
People called you an imbecile, Rose, because you genuinely think that Taft was an illegitimate president, a secret illegal, and that Congress passed a retroactive act of statehood to try to cover it up.
That’s an imbecilic position to take. Only a fool would genuinely believe in the conspiracy theories you do.
No, it isn’t. I was bringing up a valid point based on the Constitution. NOT the Treaty of Paris. No where in the original Constitution does it state that Taft would be eligible for Presidency. That’s pretty much it.
Your point is not valid at all. Nowhere in the Constitution does it say that Taft can’t be President. All of this is batshit insane, Rose. You’re wrong. Let it go.
Ohio was a state in 1803. Taft was a legal citizen of Ohio at birth. Even if Ohio somehow wasn’t a state, Taft would still be a legal citizen of the United States regardless, because Ohio the non-state territory is still part of the legal United States and all non-immigrant non-slaves and non-Indians born in US territories get U.S. citizenship at birth.
None of your assertions have any merit whatsoever. It’s ridiculous that you’d even think that it’s a serious topic of debate.
Taft was a citizen of Ohio and the United States and his presidency is legitimate. Your ability to read Constitutional law is horribly flawed, and you should never base any of your arguments about anything on the unconstitutionality of any topic, because you don’t understand the U.S. Constitution.
Stop. Don’t post it here or anywhere, it’s fucking ridiculous.
You conservative!
I kid, I kid!
Good. Politics is obnoxious. More baseball, less politics.
Hip-Hip Jorge!
reply fail
Good. Batshit insane conspiracy theories about Politics like the idea that William Howard Taft, a US President and CHEIF JUSTICE OF THE FUCKING SUPREME COURT OF AMERICA wasn’t a citizen of the United States despite being born inside the U.S. continental borders to two American citizen parents is obnoxious. More baseball, less politics.
Fixed.
But still kind of awesome to think of him getting stuck in the first bathtub installed in the White House.
Baseball IS politics.
Didn’t O’Neill get thrown out trying to go to third on a double in a couple of really close playoff games? 1997 and the 2001 Series, I wanna say?
Valverde doesn’t care what the score is. He does his squat dance.
I really want to punch him in the throat.
He is a hemorrhoid waiting to burst.
I was wondering if he did that. Good to know he’s an ass no matter what.
Leyland loves the guy I’m sure. Heh.
Why ask Flash if he has a cycle?
Valverde? Isn’t this guy dealing with an arm problem? Are they really out of pitchers?
I thought it was an abdomin strain?
Which is suprising, that body looks like it’s in excellent shape.
It is an abdominal strain, but it apparently doesn’t hurt enough to stop him from doing his asshat dance on the mound.
I bet that’s how he got it in the first place.
I wouldn’t put it past him.
Mitres gonna have a save. Proving yet again what a great stat the save is
For all his suckitude, nobody else had to pitch, so I’m gonna take it.
Guys please sign my online petition to say that Sergio Mitre is an affront to America and abuses his power to make us feel nervous about 6 run leads.
With your help we can all bring this national crisis to an end.
As nerve wracking as his performance was, I gotta hand it to Joe for leaving him in. It would have been easy to pull a Joe Torre and bring, say, Robertson in. But I think it is fair to say that the Tigers don’t have the firepower (especially when they took Cabrera out of the game) to score 11 runs. And at the end of the day, we only had to use one other pitcher after Hughes. I was at work, so I could only watch GameDay, but it seems like Hughes really rebounded after a shaky first couple of innings.
It was night and day after the 3rd inning. Hughes needed over 50 pitches to get thru the first 3, then pretty much zipped thru the 6th. I think it was better location.
I think it’s safe to say he would have been out there again in the 7th if it weren’t for that blasted innings limit…and the fact that that bottom of the 6th was so long.
I laughed.
Great offensive win streak!
Jersey Johnny throws a shitfit because we didn’t get swept.
I’m sure Jersey Johnny hung himself when the Yankees stopped their skid at 2 losses.
Mitre, now tied for third on team in saves!
(sigh) Back into the cave… I’ll be back though, plenty of games left, and it’s a game of failure!
Keep fighting the good fight, Troll. Don’t worry, I’m sure we’ll lose a game to the White Sox or Rangers soon, and you’ll be right back in there, plugging away.
I’m glad that the end of the game was uneventful. I got stuck in a traffic jam further up the thread.
Back to .500 in August!
Here’s to dethroning King Felix!
(Orders a round of Crown shots for all RAB game chatters)
Great game. Why does meat-tray get a save?
He pitched the final three innings.
Wow, totally forgot about that rule. Must be from the era before pitchers became pussies and Nolan Ryan used to pitch 19 inning complete games.
Like how he’s going to make all his pitchers do now?
Pitched three innings to close a win.
If you pitch the last 3 innings, you get the save no matter what. A few years ago, a guy got a save for finishing off a Texas 30-3 win over Baltimore.
oh man, I remember that game. That was classic.
Also, really liking the Austin Kearns pick up…he’s been great. That’s a couple of big hits in two days for him, and his at bat’s in general have been very strong.
Great game. Now, we root for the As tonight
And Angels. The Red Sox ain’t getting in, but the more space we put between us and them, the more comfortable Girardi will be resting guys who need it, skipping starts, playing kids, etc.
I’m so tired of hearing how “gritty” and “tough” the Red Sox are on MLB shows. I’m looking forward to them getting officially eliminated from post season contention.
DP himself said it on Twitter: TV analysts are incapable of saying anything bad about the Red Sox (other than OH POOR THEM THEY HAVE INJURIES NO TEAM HAS EVER HAD INJURIES)
DP?
Just did some research, I assume you were referring to Dan Patrick. I forgot he even existed. But it was good to hear somebody say that.
Late but noooo, I meant the above-mentioned Dirty Pena, haha.
Simply beautiful and it is even more amazing when I remind myself that this ISN’T the full “A” lineup.
