Football Open Thread
ByThe Giants are taking on the Titans at home at 1pm ET, but the Jets don’t play until later tonight at 8:20pm. They’re in Miami to take on the Dolphins. Use this thread to talk about any and all of today’s football action, we’ll have regular old Yankee content up throughout the day as well.

Go Titans.
Now that was not a Eli’s fault.
WOW. Its just been one of those seasons for Eli.
And we’re only 13.1% of the way through that season.
I’m not trying to be dramatic but Eli’s my starter QB in the fantasy league i participate. I’m just frustrated as hell right now.
I love Nicks’s potential, but this is ridiculous. That’s like the third time the Eli-Nicks connection has ended in interception, and all those turnovers can be attributed to bad hands.
It’s just our stingy, blue collar defense. We don’t have players from big universities.
You’re absolutely right. The fact that Jason Babin and Jason Jones are from Western Michigan and Eastern Michigan (respectively) is what caused Hakeem Nicks to have that ball ricochet off his hands into the arms of SenDerrick Marks (who played at an AQ power conference school, btw.)
(rolls eyes)
I was obviously completely serious. It seems that’s all that announcers care about when they talk about us.
Ah, gotcha. There’s so many fans that blindly accept and parrot the silly things that the MSM says that it’s hard to tell a fan’s satire/sarcasm from genuine beliefs.
Stingy defense.
man i have better hands then the giants receivers.
How good is Mark Ingram going to be as a pro?
Beanie Wells?
Beanie Wells now or in the future?
(thinks)
Yes.
So not top 10 material.
Or, to answer the question more directly, Steve (since I know you’re a Pats fan):
Yes, I’ve seen all the mocks that have the Pats taking Ingram with one of their first rounders. No, I don’t think it would be a mistake; Ingram won’t be bad. I wouldn’t take him with a first rounder, though, I don’t think he’ll be THAT good that you should bypass other more explosive RB options like Shane Vereen from Cal.
I’d put Ingram clearly behind Vereen and probably in a dead heat with Kendall Hunter from Okie State and DeMarco Murray from Oklahoma. He’s a good back but I don’t know if he’s a true difference maker in the pros.
I wouldn’t mind taking an RB with our 2nd 1st rounder, but unless they are AP or Chris Johnson, I don’t want them to use the Raiders pick on a RB.
That. I wouldn’t take Ingram in Round 1; if you can move back into the top of Round 2 and take him, I’d do that.
I’d take Vereen with a first-rounder, though.
I’m a Bama fan, so obviously I love Mark Ingram, but I don’t even think he’s the best running back prospect on his own team. Trent Richardson is going to be really good in the NFL.
Agreed.
Also, Bama has one of the best offensive lines in recent college football history; that makes Ingram look a bit better than he truly is.
You know what we’ll see from at least one team in every game today?
Winners.
That was epic.
BIG BAD BOSS!
(shaking head)
Eli… how could a left-handed lob/toss into coverage have turned out any way but that.
Aaron Hernandez is an absolute animal.
I have Hernandez starting on my fantasy team this week, so i’m glad to see Brady’s getting the kid involved early and often. I benched Brent Celek, so hopefully this risk turns out well this week.
With Faulk out he’s due to be more involved, but Brady needs to target him more anyway. He only had 6 targets last week and caught them all. He’s a playmaker for sure.
Marshall Faulk is still playing? He’s got to be like 40, right?
Ooops, you mean Kevin Faulk. Nevermind. Carry on. Nothing to see here.
Faulk was strasburgian in college , the most impressive RB came out college IMO in my life time.
This.
G-MEN defense looks good. King KIWI playing for a big money contract next season.
WHO’S READY
Drew Brees so far: 2-3, 2 TD’s, 1 INT
What a terrible decision by Coughlin to kick the FG there. Tynes sucks, and you can’t risk giving up that much field position for a poor chance at just three points.
Ugh, Eli stinking up the joint! Trade him for Bo Jackson NOW!
Bills suck
Tell us something we don’t know.
The Yankees might win tonight.
But what if they don’t? WE JUST DON’T KNOW?!
Most of us just assumed that they were going to do the same thing they did the previous four games.
You know what they say: When you assume you make…lemonade out of lemons.
When God hands you lemons, you…
FIND A NEW GOD!!!!!
That’s why I dig polytheism. I can just ignore most of the ones I’m not keen on.
Atheism is good too.
You can just ignore everything.
Too convenient. I want to challenge myself with a whole slew of irrational beliefs. One is fairly limiting.
I like monotheism, but the God you decide is real is differnet depending on your mood that day.
This week’s model is Thor.
Scratch that, God or god you believe in.
No humanists in the house? I dated a girl that thought they were a sect of Christianity but also believed in the beliefs of David Hume.
That was funny stuff.
Man was that girl dumb.
Ugh, Nicks.
Seriously, is there a team in the NFL that has as many dropped passes as the Giants?
Uh oh, we’re sharing the same thought pattern.
If it makes you feel any better the Cowboys are well on pace to be the most penalized team in the NFL, Wade Phillips is an incompetent ass, the Eagles are starting Michael Vick, and the Redskins still aren’t very good.
Meh, I don’t care much either way. If the Giants go 1-15 I’d be somewhat bummed but don’t really care that much about football.
If it’s on and I’m catching up on work, I’ll watch and make ignorant observations but I don’t go out of my way to follow it.
Jesus Christ, Manningham.
Why can’t anyone catch the ball properly? Anyone know if the Giants lead in dropped passes so far this year?
Well hello down there. Was just wondering the same thing.
They’re going to review this, I’m sure.
Maybe not.
Pretty sure the Giants got away with holding on that play.
Yup. Fishmaster and his Castaway beard saw it. Refs missed one there.
I’m pretty confident that it wasn’t a holding call they were looking for. The Giants pretty clearly false started, and it was missed by the officials.
Really? What was Fisher pointing at then?
Gotta love this outburst of life from the GMEN offense!
Anyone have predictions on the Giants record this year?
I’m going to go with 9-7.
10-6.
I really don’t know. I could still see them going anywhere from 6-10 to 10-6.
So they’re going to go 9-7? Good, I’m glad we settled this.
/I really have no idea but have serious concerns about the o-line, linebackers, running backs and special teams.
11-5
(Giants fan here. I see no point in being stingy with the record.)
What is up with Nicks? I remember when we got him, the word was that he had great hands. No, seriously.
I’m not that concerned about it.
I remember that. Here’s my question: What happened to that 6’7 WR we got from some little-ass school in California last year?
Has he even seen a game?
His name was Ramsey or something, I think.
Ramses Barden.
Yes, he’s been active a few times. He was a project at WR, guess he hasn’t progressed enough or shown enough on Special Teams yet. He’s actually been dealing with a back problem, too, and I know he’s inactive today.
Ah, thanks for the update. I remember friends at the time saying “we just signed Plaxico II without the heat.”
Yeah he’s a huge guy.
Wow, Eli is 17 out of 20. 2 are interceptions, one of which bounced off Nicks’ hands, and the other incompletion was dropped by Manningham.
In other news, c’mon Texans and, wow, the Bills lead the Patriots.
Hey, wait, Jimmy Johnson is still in the Fox Studio? I thought he was on Survivor? Are you telling me Survivor isn’t live????? Jeez, next you’ll tell me that reality TV is really scripted and pre-planned!
Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas and Andre Reed … awesome squad !
No huddle offense rulez ! Wait a minute here….
Jimmie Johnson was on Survivor? I haven’t seen that show in at least a decade. It’s always been awful.
Survior is still on? Where it taken place , Republic of Congo?
I’m really holding out for Survivor: Guantanamo.
They really should up the ante and do 3rd world survivor. Take people to land mine countries, poverty places, genocide factories and just drop them off. Bring a few cameramen and see what happens.
I would watch that if morally it isn’t such a fuck up idea.
Would be fun to see those douchebag get kill though, sponsor by your local Gold Gym near you.
Morally fucked up idea? They get the chance to win $1 million! Nothing morally ambiguous about it.
I meant to use the so called ‘third world ‘ as a background.
The world doesn’t need any more reasons to hate Americans.
We’ll call it 1.5 world if that makes people feel any better.
The new politically correct euphemism for the third world is “The Global South”.
No, seriously.
The Global South ? WTF?
Hahahahahaha!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North-South_divide
Tommie,I was half way expecting some Wagnerian music playing in the background whilst reading that WIKI.
Whoever is the ST coach of the GMen needs to get fired like now.
Should have been fired after week 1.
They always have bad kick coverage. Like, even in the Parcells days.
Frank Beamer for next Giants coach!
Just shoot me now, thank you.
No one from Vicious Thug University for me.
Meh, I doubt guys from VT are any worse than most others. It’s the system that’s broken, not the school.
Ugly camera work.
Excellent field position. I’m waiting for Coughlin to call for a 7-step drop.
Followed up by the Coughlin Face when something bad but totally expected happens.
So, you guys aren’t Coughlin fans, huh?
No, I like Coughlin just fine, I just like to make fun of the face he always makes in those situations.
Not a big fan but I don’t know enough about football to say he’s a bad coach. I don’t see enough games for a point of comparison.
To respond to both of you: I love Coughlin but actually I think you’re right, I know exactly what face you’re talking about.
It is oddly like the Scoscia Face.
No, the Scioscia Face is “I can’t believe you just called that pitch against my team, it’s as if you just ran over my puppy!”
The Coughlin Face is “I can’t believe you guys are committing these penalties and being this stupid!”
Oh, there it just was!
Sure, different in some sense but still that sense of incredulousness.
Wouldn’t incredulity be the word to use there?
Either way, that’s a great point.
One’s a noun, one’s an adjective. Yup, in that context I should have used incredulity.
And I’m an editor. Yikes.
Come on Thor, do your thing. Let’s keep ‘em out of the end zone.
One of these days the Giants will learn how to get plays off without having to burn timeouts or take delay of game penalties.
No they won’t.
This analysis is fucking horrible.
That’s sweet except that there’s probably a holding call.
WTF, Bradshaw.
All right Thor, because of that penalty, I’m ditching you.
C’mon, Osiris.
Oof.
Yep, so there was the Coughlin Face!
Haha. It is funny to watch.
If DeAngelo Williams or Pierre Thomas would like to get me more than 2 fucking points each for my team that would be appreciated.
Brett Favre and Michael Turner have killed one of my teams so far.
And so I benched Turner today and I see he’s scored a touchdown.
Dammit.
I traded Eli for Matt Ryan. And forgot to start Ryan…
To top that off I traded Bradshaw too…
FML.
Maybe my TV is fucked up (it is) but does Coughlin look like he’s gotten this sunburn Hollywood oompa loompa Boehner tan going?
Been hanging out with Snooki too much?
No but I’d rail the cheese out of that thing.
Saw that coming a mile away.
I’m no longer full of surprises.
If you ever ran across the Jersey Shore kids in person, I’d predict an intercourse-related myocardial infarction.
I didn’t want to have to dust off the webMD on my off day but…that sounds like an awful thing to contract.
Is it like ebola on your penis?
I’d like to see her have an unfortunate tanning bed mishap.
I wouldn’t go near that thing. And I say this from only seeing pictures of her and a new story about her tweeting about whining about taxes on tanning beds. Deal with it, bitch. And have fun dealing with the inevitable skin cancer.
Meh, that’s not something she’ll have to worry about for 30 or so years in all likelihood.
I’d be more concerned about a poor diet, lack of exercise, promiscuity, smoking and the condition of that liver.
at the rate she goes tanning, I think 30 years is way too long.
5 years from now
Snooki will be the size of Sally Struthers
Ew, what is that thing? I better strike while the pasta’s hot.
Eli’s not going to buy anybody dinner tonight. What a fucking mental error by Brdshaw. Beautiful throw by Eli but … its not gonna count.
Vince Young still has a release point that’s lower than you want, but he’s made great strides in terms of accuracy and decision making over the past few years. He’s a legit NFL starting quarterback, probably a top-20 starting QB now.
Kudos to the Titans for their patience.
As evidenced by that great throw. Put it where only his man could go up and get it.
Games’s not over but…
The G-men aren’t very good, are they?
I mean, they’re all right…
They’ve been doing everything to prevent themselves from losing today.
Teams that do that consistently tend to have bad results.
Prevent themselves from winning, I meant.
*Cough*Yankees*Cough*
Oh boy.
I was strictly thinking of football teams.
? The only really bad thing is ST. the defense is decent, Chirs Johnson hasn’t done anything at all. Eli has been the victim of bad luck and a victim of losing common sense for one play.
You and I are watching two different games here.
Yeah Eli totally sucks and the defense has been flat out atrocious letting CJ with 30 touchdowns.
Huh? Eli is great, but the team has been making stupid fucking mistakes all game, the ST, as you said, has been atrocious, and let’s not forget last week at the Colts, what an abomination that game was.
Eli’s great, Bradshaw’s good, the OL is meh, the receivers are hit-or-miss, the DL is solid, the LB’s suck, the DB’s are a crapshoot…
I wouldn’t call the Giants “bad”, but they’re not “very good” either.
Their biggest need next year is clearly OT.
Yup. All 5 spots, for that matter. All of their OL starters are in need of an upgrade.
O’Hara is still fine. Snee is one of the best guards in the league. Diehl would do better if they move him back to left guard and replace Seubert. Beatty getting hurt screws up his development.
IMO, ALL the immediate starter-type, impact OTs are going to be gone before the Gmen get their 1st round pick called. JMO, as i think the Gmen are good enough to win 9 games which could put ‘em the 16 slot earliest.
FWIW, Bryan Bulaga dropped to Green Bay last year. There will be a solid OL prospect available wherever the Giants pick.
Hopefully.
I don’t think I’d call Eli great. Very good, yes. Great? Mmm…probably not. Bradshaw’s pretty good but they’ll need another dependable back, OL is meh, receivers have very good potential but seem to make all kinds of mental mistakes, DL definitely good, LB’s awful, DB are inconsistent.
Special teams are abominable.
Fuck the Giants, I’d rather root for the Jets. I’m a fairweather football fan.
Most football fans are fairweather.
Watching Eli in this game, if he had a good team around him, he’d have a 35-19 lead already. He’s been dynamite; nobody else is making plays.
I’ve been an Eli skeptic, but he’s a legit great QB now. He does everything right.
This.
Everything except that INT in the end zone.
SECOND INT in the end zone., Though was the first one not his fault? I don’t remember.
The first one was nowhere near the end zone.
Yeah, but he has three INTs. I remember one being in the end zone (though I’ve kind of been following this game in the background).
He has 2.
Well then I’m just wrong, aren’t I?
He’s rounding up.
When I see great, I see Brees, Payton, Brady and Charlie Batch. Eli, in my view, is just beneath that tier with Rivers and Rogers.
Perhaps you need a separate teir for “elite” to separate them from the other “great” QBs.
Classification difference. Agreed if we use those standards.
Eli is great. He’s been growing ever since and made it to the 4000 passing yard threshold last year.
Exactly my anslysis.
I agree with everything in this post.
They might still fall into the playoffs, mind.
Holy crap, anslysis?
Analysis. Yeah.
Do the Gmen draft Michael Floyd or some other really good WR next season as a LIKELY mid-first round pick?
Floyd is the last thing they need. If you give Eli time to throw and a running game that scares people again, he’ll produce points with this Smith-Nicks-Manningham crew.
No way. Draft OL and LB heavy.
I’m not going to repeat my 254 post, but I dont want to see Reese “reach” and grab the Best available OL /OT left on the board. Arent all the good ones gone early? The Gmen are gonna win just enough games to ensure they’d be picking after the elite guards/tackles are gone.
OLB? Yeah, i agree. Now that’s a priority over weapons for Eli.
Arent all the good ones gone early?
2010:
#23 Brian Bulaga
#33 Roger Saffold
2009:
#23 Michael Oher
#39 Eben Britton
#54 Phil Loadholt
#58 Sebastian Vollmer
2008:
#19 Jeff Otah
#21 Sam Baker
#26 Duane Brown
#164 Carl Nicks (moved to G, but he’s the best G in all of football)
2007:
#28 Joe Staley
#70 Ryan Harris
2006:
#50 Marcus McNeill
#66 Eric Winston
2005:
#41 Michael Roos
#52 Khalif Barnes
#113 David Stewart
And don’t forget, Vollmer was a huge reach. Wasn’t even invited to the combine.
Indeed.
It was Cito-Culveresque.
(Yes, I went there.)
Like tsjc said, they have a good, young top 3 at WR already. Really is the least of their needs.
Another WR? No way.
And I benched CJ Spiller too! Screw this.
Defending Brandon Jacobs = now completely impossible.
I could just see that coming…
Gmen just dont have it today. Eli’s rebounded nicely. Bradshaw’s great in flashes but then fumbles the ball.
ELI… dude.. throw it!
This team is sloppy, Gilbride still sucks, and the ancient O-line is irreparable.
You exude sunshine wherever you go, don’t ya?
The o-line was bad last year. I never got why no one seemed to care. Maybe we were too busy shitting on Brandon Jacobs for not being Barry Sanders.
Also,
http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q.....g&t=1
I agree that the o-line is a big concern.
Keeping it real? If it makes you happy.
Charlie Batch is lighting me up in fantasy. This sucks.
Definitely a sucker punch to the gonads.
Cleveland-Baltimore game a lot more interesting than expected, especially since Flacco’s not totally shitting the bed.
Manningham makes some of the damnedest catches.
And then drops some of the gimme’s. Still, I’m a fan.
Yea, it makes no sense.
As a Penn State fan, I still find it weird to root for Mario Manningham. Especially after the 2005 PSU-Michigan game.
Eli-Manningham gives me more confidence of big-play ability than Eli-Nicks.
Am i crazy?
A little. Nicks has big play ability.
Has power, can make catches in traffic. Better hands. Not as much in top-end speed, but dude’s still probably the biggest home run threat of the WR corps.
I remember the TD he scored on a screen pass against KC last year. It was pretty much all him.
I know it’s early, but if the NFL redrafted there’s not way Aaron Hernandez makes it past the 2nd round, probably not the 1st.
Hughes is now starting. Panic move?
I say yes. I have confidence that the Yanks can light up Dice-K. Not in favor of this.
Wait, what?
Most assuredly.
Kind of figured it would happen, and I hoped it wouldn’t, because it is a panic move.
Wait, who’s reporting this?
For real. I haven’t seen this.
Yea, I think this is not right.
Or at least no one has reported it yet.
#Yankees are going to start Phil Hughes today rather than Moseley
http://twitter.com/Joelsherman.....615978498#
Sherman is reporting it, I’m sure the RABbi’s will have something soon on it.
Good deal. Thanks Steve and Zack.
Sweet.
I’m going to tonight’s game. Hopefully Hughes can execute the change-up tonight and give the cutter a break.
Oh yes. Its a panic move.
That non-call could have gone either way.
Tynes is garbage.
You can’t get a field goal off on time? Shit, I’d be making the Coughlin Face too!
Just keep giving them field position, guys.
Man, I’m glad I cut Lawrence Tynes from my fantasy team.
I thought I could count on him finally. I’m not sure if I’ve been dumber about anything.
Meh, it’s a kicker. Dump him and get another one, no big whoop.
I’m not talking about my fantasty team.
Ah. Well… I got nothing for you, then.
Perhaps you should have signed Jay Feely when we cut him loose?
No, they should have never given Tynes the contract extension they gave him.
There are lots of good HS soccer players out there. A few of them must be better than Tynes.
Maybe you can find a cute female one.
/KathyIreland’d
Sinbad was the bomb in that movie.
Yup. Like Affleck in Phantoms, yo.
Who’s Kathy Ireland?
Really?
http://www.google.com
Wikipedia says her husband is Dr. Greg Olsen.
Weeeeird.
Now you have a TyneHole on your roster though.
I GouldPlugged it.
See, this is why I am not a big Coughlin fan. It’s not just the face (although it does crack me up). He shows how mad he is and how much of a disciplinarian he is but his teams always seem to lack on the fundamentals, and special teams are terrible.
That’s on him. Penalties, delay of games, having kickbacks go for 50-yard returns with regularity.
Agree with everything.
Is Steve Smith-CAR even playing today?
Heh.
The real question is, “Is Jimmy Clausen even playing today? Oh, he is? Well, there you go.”
Is Frank Gore going to say that the 9ers outplayed the Chiefs today?
Turn out the lights, the party’s over.
Big problem if Phillips is out for a while.
Those Hurricanes are always causing trouble.
/TSJCbait
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WzhlH-WowNU (safe)
I can’t even understand what the first guy is saying. Nevertheless, wasn’t there another rap song about a specific floor at a U dorm where they had all sorts of mischievous fun?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ujKxpAvLKg (probably not safe)
That song actually isn’t all that bad. Greg Olsen went to a rival HS of mine. Met him once. Total douche.
7th floor crew hahaha
…
The Giants…aren’t going to win, are they?
Oh, ye of little faith.
Of course they aren’t.
Phil Hughes is starting tonight
Source or GTFO (I mean that in the nicest way possible; you know that, Carl).
I see it. Nevermind, Carl. Wasn’t trying to sound like a dick. Just saw a few comments up there already but no source attached.
THIS MONEY’S NOT FOR SPENDING!!! IT’S FOR SAVING!!!! KENNY’S SWEET, VIRGIN ASS, MAN!!!
(puffs joint)
I’m sorry for yelling.
Still not seeing a source anywhere.
http://twitter.com/Joelsherman.....615978498#
Yea, finally found it.
I don’t use the Twitterer, so I’m always behind.
/2009′d
You should get one. I’d been a prolific tweep until a new job basically sapped me of any fun Twitter time but frankly I prefer tweeting over being here for game threads. Not as much of a snake pit.
Nah. People aren’t interested in what I have to say.
Shit, I’m not interested in what I have to say.
Also, as I’ve told people I work with, the reason I don’t have Twitter or Facebook or any of that “social network” crap is because I have been able to fully disassociate myself from anyone I attended high school with, and I want to keep it that way.
I only have a Facebook because I’m required to by work (I know, it’s strange). I don’t really have friends on it or use it for networking. Twitter, I think, is different. Just follow Yankee fans. Twitter is as good as the people you follow. It has doesn’t have to have anything to do with friends from high school.
Seriously, try it out.
I don’t want to be “found,” I guess.
See, now I have a real dilemma. I watch every movie that gets nominated for major Academy Awards. That movie The Social Network has a lot of Oscar buzz. But I give a rat’s ass about a movie about the guy who invented Facebook.
You don’t get found it you create a profile of “Pat D.” and follow some notable RABers and baseball folk and just comment on that.
Really, the FBI and your employer are not coming to oust you.
No, I don’t want to be “found” by people from high school!
I don’t care what my employer thinks and I’d be thrilled for the FBI to keep a tap on me, honestly.
Saying that Twitter is less of a snakepit than an RAB GameThread is a testament to how much RAB GameThreads have been overrun by trolls and morons.
So sad.
No doubt. I don’t want to sound nostalgic or make it seem that game threads here in the past were the most incredible thing ever but it was a period in which if there were some trolls or hysterics, they were soundly pushed out. Now, there’s just too many of them and I don’t have the time or patience to deal with it.
Real bummer.
Or people like us who like to belittle all the Negative Nancies.
I’m seriously starting to compile a mental list of people I don’t like in these threads. And I’ve only been posting here for a few months.
TSJC is super old guard. He’s been here since Joe, Ben and Mike were using dialup.
I’ve been here since Angel Berroa was young.
/PeteAbe’d
So that would be……2003?
Haha. He’s been here so long he’s met all four of SGBL.
You can’t make lemonade from lemons, my friend.
I think most people here use rational analysis to dissect this team. But , as far as Yankee fans goes , I expect a certain degree of irrationalities and bloviation as with all fans.I personally don’t mind.
I think it’s healthy to have a representative of the full spectrum.
On another DOWN note, i expected a big game from my #2 round pick Miles Austin. Hasn’t happened. Ugh. Its frigging Houston for mo-sake!
Romo picks today to become best friends with Roy Williams
Houston’s not bad, you know.
DFA McKenzie!!
Oh, Kareem… I remember when you were good.
Good times.
Why is Kareem McKenzie on this team?
Veteran with a big contract, duh.
It’s the no-cap year. His ass should have been cut.
/Faneca’d
(Oh, and BTW, all that kerfluffle this offseason about how the Jets were morons for cutting Faneca and swapping Jones for Tomlinson? Yeah… no.)
Jury still a tad out on that, no?
No, not at all.
Faneca looks utterly done in Arizona; Jones is still solid for KC but LaDanian is easily the better back (and more importantly, fits a bigger need on this team that Jones wouldn’t have).
Comparing Kareem McKenzie to Alan Faneca?
I just want to point out that cutting McKenzie wouldn’t have produced a peep from anyone. We all know he sucked and would continue to suck, but he just ay at RT all offseason and no one said anything. Trying to force Beatty into LT was admirable, but that wasn’t exactly a “solid plan”
Danny Woodhead is pretty good.
No, not really.
Used properly, I think he can be. Dude is shifty.
Meh.
Work with me.
Get back to me when he can beat Chauncey Washington in a training camp competition.
Get back to me when Chauncey Washington (who?) has 3 carries for 42 yards and a TD.
Troy Brown was once beat out in training camp by some scrub too. (not comparing them, just circumstance).
He has 3 carries for 42 yards and a TD… against the Bills.
And if Faulk wouldn’t have gotten injured, Woodhead would have signed with the Omaha Nighthawks in a few weeks. Your team is the only one in the league with an RB corps shitty enough to even consider giving an actual job with actual carries to Woodhead.
He might actually look ok because the Pats have a lot of weapons (if Brady doesn’t force the ball to Moss), but yeah, he likely sucks.
Perhaps I spoke to soon. This Giants team looks like it could indeed pick at the bottom of the top 10. That slot would net the team a great OT or LB.
All i can hope is that Wk 3 = rock bottom.
Their schedule does them no favors.
Had BRADSHAW not coughed up the ball in the red zone, this game might look different.
I’m not saying the Gmen wouldve won, but i dont think the score would be this bad. Bradshaw also had that mental error that led to a safety. Top it off with McKenzie’s drive killing personal foul, and it just amounts to a sad sad day.
alot of the blame is on Bradshaw and McKenzie.
the giants are playing such bad football. It’s so frustrating, dumb penalties and the defense cant make the stops when they need to. Im also sick of Coughlin just standing on the side line and looking frustrated, fucking do something about it dude.
Someone tell me the last time a team did anything with a shitty offensive line. This season was over before it started.
The line isn’t shitty, though.
And that’s certainly not been the only cause of their struggles.
The lie definitely is shitty. Diehl and McKenzie are useless against speed rushers, and they can’t run with a power game. They’re good at… tactical rushing with Bradshaw? Sometimes? The line is decrepit.
Most lies are shitty. They tend to cause misfortune for people.
Oh, wait, you meant “line.” Definitely right about the tackles, I still think the interior is fine.
Snee is good but no longer great.
Diehl and O’Hara get beat regularly.
No longer great? Made the Pro Bowl last year. Only in like his 5th year. Can’t call him washed up yet.
I don’t know much about Snee (besides banging Coughlin’s daughter) but never use Pro Bowls as justification. Brandon Meriweather made one last year, and he’s extremely flawed (and I’m a Pats fan).
Pretty much.
I know, just…saying.
If the Giants hadn’t won that Superbowl, Snee probably never makes the Pro Bowl. That overinflated the reputations of all those Giant linemen, who played good but not amazing.
So, I figure this is as good a time as any.
Who’s coaching the Giants in 2011?
I have fingers crossed for Bill Cowher, though I realize how unlikely it is.
If I’m Jerry Jones I’d back up the Brinks truck for Cowher right now (though I do think he’s overrated). The Boys winning this week saved Phillips’ job though.
You know what’s awesome? Having Calvin Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald and Steve Smith (CAR) on my fantasy team.
You know what sucks? Shaun Hill, Derek Anderson and Jimmy Clausen.
I took Smith because I figured that the Cats wouldn’t be so impatient as to go to Clausen in Week 3. Ugh.
Johnson, what can you do? You can’t predict a separated shoulder.
Fitzgerald, though, you have nobody to blame but yourself. I avoided Fitz in all 4 of my fantasy drafts like the plague.
You knew what you were getting into. Derek Anderson was who we thought he was.
I got Fitz in the 4th round so I couldn’t pass. At the very least I figure he’ll be a great garbage time target (ala Johnson).
Stafford >>>>>>> than anything Arizona had going at the time of fantasy drafting.
I was more thinking of Johnson in 2009 when 92% of his yards and TD’s came in the last 8 minutes of the game (not precise). I took Johnson earlier than Fitz this year for sure.
I’m sure there were several better options than Fitz in the 4th. I probably wouldn’t have taken him until the 6th or 7th.
Believe it or not, I also thought more of Leinart than Anderson. I still do.
I thought they’d both suck. I didn’t predict the Cards cutting Leinart altogether, but I figured that whomever was in would shit the bed epically every week.
Pick up MIKE WALLACE if possible. He was on my bench today. Shoulda started him over miles austin. But hey, nobody can predict these days.
I’m sure Fitzgerald is envious of the day Boldin has put up today.
I started Wallace myself. Great player.
That’s impressive.
I just didnt see Pittsburgh’s QB-of-the-week as being capable of having a big game, especially after last week.
BALLSY choice!
Betting against the Buccaneers defense is still a wise choice.
The irony is that I benched Wallace because he also has a horrible QB throwing to him right now.
Derek Anderson makes Charlie Batch look like Johnny Unitas.
But, Mike Wallace makes Larry Fitzgerald look like…….Larry Fitzgerald.
Just please throw the meaningless TD to Smith for my fantasy team.
Also, who had Kansas City as The Team No One Saw Coming this year?
Jeez, that’s just typical.
Eli didnt even meet a conservative predicted fantasy stat line. That sucks. But what kills me is that Miles Austin has 2 fucking catches on the day. Romo screwed me today.
Also, who had Kansas City as The Team No One Saw Coming this year?
Meh, their Chargers win was fluky, and the Browns and Niners are shitty. They’ve done a great job adding young playmakers on both sides of the ball, but don’t start buying Chiefs stock just yet.
So, about the Giants record? Yea, I’m leaning 6-10 right now.
The team is juuuuuust about ready to implode, but it’s hard to tell because they could wake up and start bombing it through the air like last year. They wouldn’t be good, but that could carry them into that 7-9/8-8 zone that will produce frustration, false hope, an inability to draft elite talent.
Yeah. I think i may be optimistic in thinking this team can squeeze out that 9th win. It’d definitely help their 2011 draft if they didnt get that extra win.
I’ll say 8-8 and that hurts.
Goddamnit, Mike Vick is in videogame mode. Looking forward to those matchups with the G-Men…
Where would Donovan McNabb be historically if he consistently had good/great WR options throughout his career?
I bet he’d have a ring. Not multiple rings, but one.
Yeah. The one year (maybe other than last year) he had a legit WR he made the Super Bowl. Now he’s in Washington throwing for 400 yards to absolute shit.
I don’t think McNabb is an all-time great that can win throwing to David Patten and Fred Coleman as his #2 and #3 guys, but I would love to see him have 5 years with a Harrison/Moss/Bruce/Holt/Wayne kind of guy. Just a ton of talent wasted and unnecessarily bashed his whole career, starting on draft day.
Hey as a Eagles fan, if anythang, I believe if he had a legit power running game, I think he could of been alot better. Their was way too many times where the Eagles where in chuck mode (part of that was Reid’s fault, and not protecting the QB and making McNabb job easier.
Actually, being in chuch mode? All of that is Reid’s fault. He made the personnel decisions and was calling all the plays.
Andy Reid is the most overrated coach in the NFL.
Oops, supposed to say chuck mode.
Wow Vick, has been terrfic for the last what 10 Quarter’s of football. I still think he’s kinda playing over his head with the accuaracy, but holy moly, I thought that dynamic stuff was gone from ATL days, the dude is still doing some ridiculous how the fuck you do that type of stuff…
He only completed 54 percent of his passes today.
Michael Vick is and always was an immense athletic talent. I think he’s matured mentally, which helps any quarterback.
As a Eagle’s fan, all I can say is…WOW…
Wow that they beat on Jacksonville, probably one of the worst teams in the league? If the Eagles are a good team, that is what is supposed to happen.
