Yankees claim Steve Garrison, remove DeLaRosa from 40-man roster

…for his apartment. As Derek Jeter‘s contract nears an end, so too is his time up as owner of Apartment 88-B of the East Side’s Trump World Tower. According to a brief bit in The Times, Jeter is looking to offload this apartment for $20 million. He originally paid just $12.6 million for the four-bedroom/5.5-bath condo in 2001. Curbed has some photos of the 88th-floor and its views of the East River, Queens and Long Island. Now, cue the rampant speculation of what this real estate deal means for his Yankee future in 3…2…1…

I was actually surprised the NY media wasn’t going crazy saying he is doing this in case he leaves the Yanks, but…

…all the stories I read mention the huge house in St. Jetersburgh being his primary residence.

  • Jamal G.

I remember reading in one of the tabloids back in the winter of 2004-05 that Pedro Martinez was coming to the Yankees because he cut his hair. I still have yet to read something more *ridiculous.

*Speaking of which, my all-time favorite RAB comment was the bit about CC Sabathia being tied to the Mets because he was caught choking on a Philly cheesestake sandwich (this was after the Mets’ second straight September collapse).

  • MikeD

He got nailed a few years ago on NY State taxes because he claimied his primary residence was in Florida, not NY. My guess is this is related to that as he can now prove he’s really a Florida resident. He’ll save a ton in taxes. He can rent a home somewhere in the NY region during the baseball season.

Another possibility. He’s getting married and the couple are looking for their own place together. Step one: Sell the old place!

    • Tom Swift

Yeah, my guess is the tax angle. Rush Limbaugh recently sold or listed his NY apt, apparently for tax reasons.

  • MikeD

Judging by the photos, looks like he might have already moved out. No shots of the bedroom. Would have been funny if he had his own Centaur-painting hanging in the room.

    • Pasqua

I’d bet those shots are pre-purchase. Actually, a couple of them look like they might even be mock-ups / computer generated.

    • Benjamin Kabak

As Pasqua noted, the shots appear to be pre-purchase from 2001.

    • Shaun

it wouldn’t have been a centaur, Jeter would have a painting of himself riding a pegasus with Minka Kelly, over a waterfall during a full moon

  • Pasqua

Maybe Cashman is his realtor and encouraging him to downsize.

“Derek, based on your 2010 slash line, can I recommend three bedrooms and two baths? Something just a little more…modest.”

    • larryf

      and that Ferrari and Mercedes?

      You’ll need an Edge…

      • Jaremy

Hahahahahahahahahaha :) Man, that guy’s got an Edge.

        • seimiya

Maybe we’ll skip the cool panoramic vista roof, based on his incredible GIDP prowess.

  • dc1874

    paid JUST 12.6 mill…..such a deal!!!!

    • Jaremy

When you earn 8 million dollars by doing nothing but living in your house, that’s not too shabby.

  • Roy

Probably wants to be able to walk to the #4 Train.

  • steve (different one)

    Well played, Benjamin, well played.
