Pettitte’s stiff back a ‘low-level red flag’
ByWhen news of Andy Pettitte’s sore back broke late last night, we held our collective breaths. Pettitte will be key to the Yanks’ run through October, and another injury to him this late in the year would be devastating. All we know was that Pettitte felt his back stiffen up during his start against the Red Sox last Friday, but the Yanks were not too concerned. Tonight, we learn that the Yankees are guardedly optimistic that Pettitte’s soreness is a one-time event.
ESPN New York’s Wallace Matthews spoke with the Yankee brass today, and they downplayed Pettitte’s injury. GM Brian Cashman said that Pettitte would have started on Wednesday had the Yanks not clinched but admitted that the team is going to reevaluate him after his start tomorrow. “Right now, we consider it a low-level red flag,” he said. “If it happens again it will be a higher-level red flag. We’ll find out Friday.”

lets face it. this is an omen. a bad omen. yanks are going far in the post season. just pack it now and save the embarassment. there is absolutely no possible way that this team can/will win the world series. none. zero. nada. no chance. at. all. not trying to be rude here or anything, but im sorry i just dont see it. hopefully im wrong and you all can make fun of me in like a month but i have an ugly gut feeling that im right. then again maybe that feeling of being right is just a matter of being pompous and arrogant. oh well. just please people, do not get your hopes up, thats all im saying.
AREN’T not are. wow that completely changes the post
You need some optimism! Take heart; it’ll be OK. Root for the Yanks to win. Don’t look for omens in everything. And sit back and enjoy the playoffs.
That’s zen baseball for you.
ahhh i know i know. i want them to win, i just dont see it happening. like last year at this time i knew 100% for a fact they would win it all. now i feel the opposite. i know the its not 2009 and everything but still. ugghh i just hope they destroy absolutely everyone in the playoffs and win it all. just to make this awful,, awful 2nd half much much better.
I don’t understand this attitude at all. You’re rooting for the Yanks. Why go into it expecting them to lose? I fully expect them to win.
Its not that he’s expecting to lose, he knows. Hard to enjoy the process when the outcome has been decided.
It’s been a like .500 second half. Hasn’t been fun at times, at all. But seriously, you could be a fan of a team that’s genuinely awful, awful.
they have looked bad, but think of all the one run games that easily could have gone the Yankee’s way. there is nothing wrong with a bit of optimism. you will actually enjoy the games more. trust me, like Bexy says..i’m old and junk.. i know
just pack it now and save the embarassment
LET’S GIVE UP!!!!!
This is such a typical, “I’m going to be pessimistic so in case the Yankees lose I’ll seem smart” comment.
no. its not so “ill seem smart” its so that ill be able to handle the loss and not be disappointed. im not the type to rub it someones face if i predict something bad will happen and im right.
There are three points at which the Yankees can lose. There is only one way they can win it all. Betting that they’re going to lose in the playoffs is meaningless.
Well if you have no expectations, then you can never be disappointed. Amiright?
Hey first time long time, lemme walk you down memory lane.
You came on here recently and were mad pessimistic. People told you to step back from the ledge. Shit happened that indicated they were right and you should step back from the ledge. You apologized for being on the ledge and thanked the people who told you to step back from the ledge.
You’re back on the ledge now, less than a week later.
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?
…when did that ever happen? lol
He’s been really beat up this season. Probably because he’s old and junk. Obviously hoping it’s just a one-time thing and he’s fine for the playoffs.
…and yes, I volunteer myself for any and all massages he may or may not need.
come on playoffs are coming DO YOUR PART AND TAKE ONE FOR THE TEAM DAMMIT! gotta step it up bex
Old and junk? Geez Bex. Man has dominated when healthy.
no, junk == stuff. “because he’s old and .”
cursed HTML!
“because he’s old and [content-free filler word].”
Yeah, by “beat up” I didn’t mean like, by batters, I meant physically. Obviously he’s been very very good.
Bexy: How is that rub down treating you Andy?
Andy: Pretty good I guess, but why are we still working the groin?
This is EXTREMELY worrying. If Pettitte is out our chances significantly diminish to repeat to say the least.
Good thing the entire jist of this article is “Pettitte’s probably not out”.
So Andy has a stiffy?
Keep the faith! Yanks can prevail in the playoffs with some luck. Obviously the guys need to step up another notch….Pitching and timely hitting needs to persistent…Go Yanks! Yankees versus Phillies rematch….I say Yankees in 7
What I am about to say will seem extremely controversial but you need to think about this.
For rehabbing purposes (like Petite’s back) this is where perscription steroids should be allowed in the game. Examined by a doctor from MLB of the Commissioners office This will accelerate the healing process for players. Especially thise so important as Pettite is to the Yankees in preparation for the post season and also a player of his age.
I don’t think any AL team is particularly scary right now. The Twins are in a funk, and who knows how Morneau will play after the layoff. Hamilton probably won’t play, and Lee has been subpar….Texas isn’t so hot on the road. Now, I don’t put the Yankees above any of these….we have one ace, one old guy who is a question mark at the moment, a young pitcher who has been pretty average and a homer machine for several months, and an iffy bullpen.
I hate the Phillies….HATE them. But they are the favorites.
hello fellas. I’m all for using WAR, UZR and other sabermetrics juxtaposed to standard stats when evaluating my team/players but all I know is Texas swept NY easily without Hamilton in the line up. NY could have folded like a expensive beach chair when Rodriguez when down except Cano stepped in and the battle was won, with out Cano NY isn’t even close to winning the WAR.
