ALCS Game Six Spillover Thread

The Yankees will bring the tying run to the plate in this game.

Categories : Game Threads, Playoffs

  1. Gotta work for it now… sheesh. Seems like the Yankees just haven’t been able to get that last out.

  2. Big Bertha says:

And this season is now over. Can’t really fault Hughes, he shouldn’t have been in that spot. Girardi left him in too long and it should have been Andy pitching games 2 and 6. And then he brings in Robertson who has been ineffective all series? What happened to all hands on deck?

    • CP says:

Why is everyone convinced that the season is over as soon as the Yankees are down?

It’s not like this team led the majors in come from behind wins. Oh wait, they did.

    • Carlosologist says:

      (clears throat)

    • Reggie C. says:

Hughes wasnt ready to come up big. The kid just wasnt ready.

      • CP says:

He gave up 4 hits in the game, including one infield single. If the Yankees could score some, his outing would look very different.

      • Yeah, Girardi should have never pitched him after he won 18 games this year. A much better choice would have been going with AJ Burnett twice, or giving Mitre or Gaudin a start.

        • Reggie C. says:

Now wins are a measure of pitching ability? Hughes second half was straight unimpressive and the young man was bailed out many a time.

I’m not damning Hughes for tonight’s performance. Tonight was simply a case of a young, inexperienced pitcher facing a talented lineup and getting beat. Was AJ a better option? Nah. But, that’s the state of the Yankees and thus you posited an entirely different question.

          • If someone is going to bitch about Girardi starting Hughes (as many have) then they are obligated to provide an alternative. The other options are all clearly worse, therefore it was the right move and these people are just vomiting out irrational nonsense.

  3. IOI says:

Is there a statistic that measures how many times they bring the tying run to the plate when you say they will?

  4. Slappy White says:

    Man that really escalated fast

  5. Avi404 says:

We will win this game. Book it.

  6. iYankee(next generation from Apple) says:

    Another interesting stat.

Rangers have scored multiple runs in inning 12 times in ALCS. Highest-scoring team in MLB has done it just 3 times Yankees

  7. Hummingbird S. says:

They will bring the tying run to the plate and fail to get a hit with RISP, as usual.

  8. Hughesus Christo says:

And people will still say Girardi is a great manager.

    • iYankee(next generation from Apple) says:

Dave Robertson was the right move. He has pitched very well in the ALCS

      • CP says:

I’m not really sure what the complaint would be.

      • Hughesus Christo says:

How many times has he IBBed Texas into huge innings?

        • bonestock94 says:

You really hate those walks? I mean hindsight is 20/20, I’d rather pitch to the worse player when I have the option.

          • Hughesus Christo says:

IBBing go-ahead runs over and over again? That’s stupid. it’s also Vlad Guerrero, not some scrub.

            • bonestock94 says:

Meh, agree to disagree. They’re not go ahead runs if your pitching does the job and gets the guys out. Vlad is no scrub, but Hamilton > Vlad. I’m indifferent on Girardi, if it’s over tonight it’s 100% on the players.

            • CP says:

So you’d rather pitch to the (likely) 2010 MVP than the over-the-hill 2004 MVP?

Just because his name is still Vlad Guererro doesn’t mean he bears any resemblance to the man that won the MVP award 6 years ago.

              • Hughesus Christo says:

Umm…. Vlad Guerrero had a really good season. I don’t care how old he is, he isn’t “auto-walk the guy in front of him”

IBBing guys into terrible pitching situations early in the game and getting burned repeatedly is not “great managing.” I’m also wondering why he was a-ok gong to Wood 1 out later. If that’s the case, bring him in in the 4th. That also assumes it was the right move to pull Hughes there, which is wrong.

            • Adam says:

The go ahead run was already on base. And Vlad chases. He would have been a total dunce to pitch to Hamilton.

    • Big Bertha says:

Exactly. He cost us the series.

  9. Carlosologist says:

…We’re not dead yet. Considering that Lewis has been sitting for a while, he may not be sharp.

  10. Big Bertha says:

I just don’t know how we can leave so many meatballs right over the plate with 2 strikes. It’s baffling.

  11. rek4gehrig says:

I thought all hands were on deck tonight. Why DRob? Where was Mosely? or CC?

  12. All Star Carl says:

No CC? No Moesley? Wood in that situation?

    Posada calling a terrible game.

  13. Andy says:

What happened to CC in the pen?

  14. Yankee Doodle says:

Girardi gets my vote for worst manager in baseball

  15. JerseyDutch says:

Has Gardner been on base in the ALCS?

  16. bonestock94 says:

    No slide, booooooooooooo

  17. poster on another computer who happens to be a deuce bag says:

The Yanks are playing like shit. But Mike’s threads are fucking magical. They always end up bringing up the tying run.

That said, the way they’re playing, 4 runs is a tall order.

  18. quinn the eskimo stole me face says:

sell the house sell the car sell the kids find someone else forget it i’m never coming back forget it

  19. Andy says:

  20. Kevin says:

wtf is jeter swinging at? …. this team is driving me nuts

  21. Hummingbird S. says:

Love the fight by our offense.

  22. Frigidevil says:

    Seriously Jeter? wtf

  23. Big Bertha says:

LOL, but we can still come back! Look at these guys trot up there and hit weak grounders. Just a pathetic performance all around in an elimination game. Girardi should be fired right after the game.

  24. jbkx says:

Colby Lewis having his dream year. This twat will be in triple A then out of baseball in 4 years. Dammit

    • iYankee(next generation from Apple) says:

Maybe but right now when it counts he is 2 hit pitching the best offense team in baseball who scored the most runs and won the second most games.

  25. Andy says:

Why aren’t we trying to work up this guy’s pitch count?

  26. adeel says:

    My optimism is strong…
Had to throw common sense out the window.

  27. iYankee(next generation from Apple) says:

I love Jeter but his AB’s in the playoffs, save for a few, have not only been questionable (first pitch swining down 4 runs) but when he does swing they have not been very good.

  28. jbkx says:

Christ that ball girl is a lard ass.

  29. Andy says:

You have got to be kidding me.

  30. poster on another computer who happens to be a deuce bag says:

Seriously though, even the announcers saw that Lewis was pitching like shit earlier, and the Yankees could do NOTHING. That’s just bad play.

  31. 3Earnhardt says:

Do you guys still want Gardner back?? Gardner= pinch runner in the 8th inning. Bring in Carl Crawford please!

  32. Al says:

Sorry Mike, but you’re like The Boy Who Cried Wolf at this point. I would have said the Yanks would bring the trying run to the plate before the Robertson debacle. Unfortunately Girardi managed this game as though it were the middle of July. Does any body have any idea what he was thinking bringing Robertson in there?

    • Kevin in Delectable Princeton says:

Yes. Robertson is the 3rd best reliever on the Yankees. There is a lot of baseball left to play. Who else do you bring in? It made perfect sense.

  33. Reggie C. says:

    Colby Lewis.

Remember that name. This man shut down the Yankees.

  34. Big Bertha says:

We’re making Colby Lewis look like Pedro. What an uninspired performance by every single player on the roster this series. And that blame falls squarely on Girardi. Braceface needs to go.

    • Stratman9652 says:

Read what you just said you idiot. Every player has not performed at that falls on Girardi how?

      • Big DaveyNJ says:

This person must be a Red Sox fan and is hear just to annoy and incite. He (or she?) has brought nothing to the table whatsoever.

I mean, sure, I comment here maybe once every two weeks and I might even say some snarky but get shot down all the time, but DAMMIT at least I…

        Actually, I don’t know what i do.

  35. Pete M. says:

Ernie Johnson barely containing his enthusiasm.

  36. Andy says:

Why does Jeter always swing at the first pitch? I get it’s his thing but it really comes across as arrogance when it’s so careless.

  37. Nuke LaDoosh says:

i picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue…

  38. ZZ says:

Girardi is absolutely clueless. It’s unbelievable. This is a fucking elimination game and for the 2nd time this series he manages it like a regular season game.

Hughes was struggling all night, but working out of trouble. It was only a matter of time before it came back to bite him.

1st and 3rd tie game, you get Hughes the fuck out of there, bring in Wood, shut it down, and go from there in a tie game. No, let’s milk a few more outs out of my starter in a goddamn elimination game.

Then you bring in Robertson who has been throwing batting practice fastball all series? Are you kidding me. Just to warm up Wood 5 minutes later. He’s lucky it’s only 4 runs right now. Robertson was getting absolutely smoked.

No feel for the game for 2 months now from the manager. No urgency at all. Now fuckin Wood is probably coming into the game down 4 runs.

Washington has positively just owned Girardi this series.

    • Pete M. says:

Is it *really* about managing? Did Girardi tell the last three guys to go up and hit weak grounders?

    • Big Bertha says:

I agree. He had CC and Wood he could have went to before Robertson. It was all hands in deck supposedly but he brought his worst option in once again. He didn’t pitch Andy in game 2 and 6, if he had we wouldn’t be in this situation!

      • Adam says:

Really? Our second best reliever all season was the worst option? If you bring Wood in there then you have to have Drob pitch near the end of the game. It’s inevitable. Right move, just didn’t execute. It happens, Girardi doesn’t throw the pitches. You truly are annoying.

        • Hummingbird S. says:

Robertson has been putrid lately, especially in this series. It was a mistake to bring him in in that situation and shit happened.

    • CP says:

      You’re completely wrong.

Just because the moves didn’t work doesn’t mean they were the wrong move.

  39. It'sATarp says:

This team has nothing right now…Jesus i hope girardi throws a shit fit in the dug out to wake them up

  40. Yankee Doodle says:

Gardner sucked Tex sucked, Swisher, not to mention pitching

  41. Mike R says:

Yah.. This is going to be really hard to come back from.. Robertson should NOT of been in in such a situation.. It’s going to be hard to battle back and we only have 9 outs to do it.. Need to get our offense back out on the field and some big hits..

  42. mbonzo says:

“The Yankees will bring the tying run to the plate in this game.”
    Thank you mike.

  43. King of the Troglodytes says:

Karma’s a bitch – the Yanks pussed out the division to avoid Texas in the first round.

  44. Mark says:

Here is Wood down 4, hilarious.

  45. Andy says:

I must admit, I’m shocked. I wasn’t sure we were going to win this game, but I thought it would be a good game.

  46. Tank Foster says:

Derek has gotten old, very fast. He’s playing like Omar Vizquel.

  47. nathan says:

I refuse you to believe we will not have a crooked number inning in this game. Its the Yankee fiber

  48. jbkx says:

Perfect spot to put one in Molina’s pie hole. Oh well.

  49. mattt says:

I just feel miserable right now. Can someone make me feel better?

  50. Mike Sacks says:

Anyone else chanting Joh-nny Da-mon in their heads?

    • nathan says:

Hmm why? The ERA will go down to 2 or Texas’ BABIP will be @ .300

Wait, he would hv thrown two more noodles and we would have let up 4 more runs

    • Kevin in Delectable Princeton says:

No. He had a worse season than Gardner and Granderson. A MUCH worse season.

  51. ZZ says:

    Now you bring in Wood!?

Down 4 runs, against the bottom of the fucking lineup, with no men on base.

    It’s comical.

    • quinn the eskimo stole me face says:

Sell the house. Sell the car. Sell the kids. Find someone else. Forget it. I’m never coming back. Forget it.

  52. Andy says:

Why is Wood in now? I don’t get it. If weren’t going to save Wood for the 7th or 8th, then why not put him in the 5th? I’m so confused.

  53. Big Bertha says:

Kerry Wood’s in the game DOWN 4 runs. Brilliant, Girardi. Maybe he could have been brought in when we were only down by 2 with a runner on 2nd but that would be too logical.

  54. DOOM & GLOOM says:

    We need baserunners. Clock ticking.

  55. Kevin says:

so 9 outs…. can we maybe see kearns pinch hit for thames in a big spot… im tired of seeing him hit vs rightys and swinging at junk

  56. SF Yanks says:

Can someone give me some coping mechanisms? I can’t let this shit get to me and I’d do anything to be able to zen-baseball this shit right now.

    • Adam says:

You are a Yankee fan…we win the World Series far more frequently than everyone else. If we don’t win this year, then we got beat by a better team. It happens.

Also, this game ain’t over yet. Not by a muther effin long shot.

      • SF Yanks says:

“If we don’t win this year, then we got beat by a better team. It happens. Also, this game ain’t over yet. Not by a muther effin long shot.”

Oh, believe me, I understand. Unfortunately it doesn’t turn my frown upside down. Thanks for trying to help though.

It’s almost like I need something profound. Eh, screw it. I’ll be a sourpuss and get it out of my system.

    • Betty Lizard says:

Can someone give me some coping mechanisms?

Well, besides alcohol, if you have a cat that can help. Or, if you’re sick, as I am, then coughing is a welcome distraction. As is the lecture I have to write before Tuesday. And online Gin Rummy. And recaps of Project Runway. And the half-finished laundry. And . . .

      • SF Yanks says:

I have a little dog and that truly does help. It’s just too bad it only last 5 minutes.

I might hit up some NyQuil and sleep for 3 days. Or better yet, if I can somehow fall into a self-induced coma until next April. But I’ll wait until the end of the game before doing anything drastic.

  57. FrankFernandez says:

    We retired Mitch Moreland!

  58. Frank says:

    Why Yanks lost this series

25 2 strike hits for Rangers this series (and counting); too amny runs allowed with 2 outs- the inability to close out an inning has plagued this team all season;Yanks offense totally inept; poor execution of pitches(Hughes throwing a hanging curve to Vlad, who swings at anything, is a perfect example of why he has a long way to before he becomes an elite starter);if Yanks wind up losing this game, they would have lost twice to Colby Lewis and a game started by Tommy Hunter(at home).

    • Big Bertha says:

Why they lost the series is because Girardi decided to flip Andy in Phil because he thought it was brilliant strategy. Andy wins game 2 and he’s still pitching effectively in this one. Hughes loses game 3 and we never have to hear from him again in the series. Andy was wasted in this series.

  59. ChrisR says:

Is it to extreme to say I only want to see Wood and MO on the mound for the rest of this game?

  60. adeel says:

there is a really big chance that the yankees will lose and MO will not make an appearance…. =)

There has to be an organized campaign from baseball fans to do away with the save…. It’s ruining the game…

  61. Reggie C. says:

Axisa’s lucky star of a statement: “yankees will bring the tying run to the plate…” just seems comical.

  62. Stratman9652 says:

So where the hell was CC? Even AJ? Where the hell did all hands on deck go?

    • mbonzo says:

Who knew the Rangers would explode there? Wood and Mo for 6-9 now.

      • Stratman9652 says:

He should have went to CC the minute he pulled Hughes. Having a starter back up a starter is a hell of a way to go. And I rarely question any of Girardi’s moves not involving Mitre or Gaudin.

  63. King of the Troglodytes says:

Good to see the mighty Moreland can actually be retired.

  64. Yankee Doodle says:

Thought they`d come up big.. crap shoot in the 7th game. 4 runs in 3 innings is possible but….

  65. Jerome S says:

good inning let’s get the boys back out there.

  66. bonestock94 says:

    I’m gonna miss Kerry Wood

  67. It’s kinda funny that a health nut like Girardi is doing a Taco Bell commercial.

  68. Nuke LaDoosh says:

“you’re done kid, i gotta pull ya”

Where were those words 45 minutes ago?

kid did not chew a heckuva chalupa today.

  69. jbkx says:

Paul O’Neill would be going medieval in the tunnel by now. Miss that, a lot.

  70. Andrew says:

How come Joe Girardi can pull the kid eating the chalupa but he can’t pull his pitchers before they blow the game?

  71. cnicnyrnyy says:

best call Girardi makes….pulling that dipwad for mo at taco bell…no way was that guy gonna finish that thing!

  72. Big Bertha says:

Anyone still think Girardi is a great manager? Where was Wood when it was still a ballgame? Why was Hughes left in to face Vlad? Why was AJ left in to face Molina? Why was Andy only allowed to pitch 1 game?

  73. Carlosologist says:

To all the people clamoring for Girardi to be fired, who the hell takes over? Maybe you should put a little thought into your comments before you post.

  74. JFH says:

i will hold out hope till the bitter end, but this game is like eating a big sh*t sandwich.

  75. ZZ says:

I honestly can’t believe what just transpired the past 2 innings.

David Robertson who has been absolutely awful this series faces Nelson Cruz with a man on 2nd in a 2 run game.

Kerry Wood faces Molina, Moreland, and Andrus down 4 runs with the bases empty.

    How is that even defensible?

    • first time lawng time says:

Girardi won a championship last year so he gets a free pass for everything.

      • poster on another computer who happens to be a deuce bag says:

Nt at all. Blame him for what you want to; I think these criticisms are fair. But winning a chmapionship and going to the ALCS the next year does generally get you a pass, yes.

You act like rehiring a guy after a WS year and a year where he went to the ALCS is somehow irrational.

  76. nathan says:

Come on offense, 2 runs each inning

  77. Big Daddy says:

This is what happens when you let go of 2 big run producers (Matsui and Damon) and use a TERRIBLE pitching coach. Proof? see Aj Burnett, Javier Vazquez, and Joba.

  78. Anderson says:

dude im pretty sure tony pena can do a better Job then girardi at this point.

  79. Ivan says:

Wow it just seems people are bitchin about everything, just to well bitch for no fucking reason. Like seriously, you guys are bitching for everything and being irrational.

  80. Andy says:

I don’t give Girardi shit that much, but I just really really don’t understand what “all hands on deck” means if we’re not going to put our best non-closer in the game in the 5th.

  81. Jerome S says:

Hindisght is twenty-twenty. If we knew what was gonna happen in this game before we played, would the Yankees have done something different?
But remember this phrase when looking back on this season (If they lose this game):

  82. mbonzo says:

    Girardi should get thrown out.

  83. StandingRoomOnly says:

    Even Robbie has nothing left.

  84. DOOM & GLOOM says:

Not a good vibe in here

  85. first time lawng time says:

Yanks down four. Only one run against Colby freaking Lewis. I think it’s safe to say that this series has been quite the embarassment for the New York Yankees. Bad luck, poor offense, poor pitching, meltdowns.

Well the season was fun until September. Although they won 95 games and made it to game 6 of the ALCS this season was a failure.

Better luck next year. If I’m gona lose, I’d rather lose to Tampa than Texas but whatever.

  86. Hummingbird S. says:

I feel sad for Cano. He can’t do it all by himself.

  87. Adam says:

Eff all of you. I am going to just go enjoy the rest of the game. Go Yanks, no matter what happens here.

  88. Mike R says:

Yah.. this does not look good..

  89. mbonzo says:

  90. FrankFernandez says:

You can pick Girardi apart for the way he has handled the pitching, but this hitting “performance” is what’s killing us.

  91. A-Rod's Hip says:

of course A-Rod hits it hard but right at him

guess we need to start gettin mad at our hitters for not just hitting the ball into the seats i guess

  92. MPQ says:

Other than Granderson, the outfield has not produced much this playoff series. I miss Paul O’neil and Bernie Williams :(

  93. PaulF says:

Hey guys, I know everyone is upset. The Yankees are probably going to lose this game. Lets not spend the last three innings of the season complaining. Let’s sit back and hope for a comeback, but if it doesn’t come, try to enjoy the last few innings from the team we love. Watch Wood pitch one last inning. See Berkman’s last AB as a Yankee. Even the guys that are coming back, we won’t see until April. Let’s enjoy the game.

  94. Carlosologist says:

    Berkman with a triple!

  95. Teatime says:

    Big Puma!

  96. Jon in CUO says:

I’m really going to miss Berkman next year.

  97. Big DaveyNJ says:

The Puma will save us with his BLISTERING SPEED!

    • Big DaveyNJ says:

      We need your snarky humor….

Now more than ever. Should I say something long-winded and ridiculous so you can pick it apart paragraph by paragraph?

        • Big DaveyNJ says:

I agree. Matsui and Damon were huge losses. They wouldn’t be trotting up to the plate and hitting weak grounders. Matsui would be hitting 3 HRs in one game and Damon would be stealing 2 bases on one play. Girardi and his whole staff need to go.

Anyone still think Girardi is a great manager? Where was Wood when it was still a ballgame? Why was Hughes left in to face Vlad? Why was AJ left in to face Molina? Why was Andy only allowed to pitch 1 game?

And this season is now over. Can’t really fault Hughes, he shouldn’t have been in that spot. Girardi left him in too long and it should have been Andy pitching games 2 and 6. And then he brings in Robertson who has been ineffective all series? What happened to all hands on deck?

Girardi is absolutely clueless. It’s unbelievable. This is a fucking elimination game and for the 2nd time this series he manages it like a regular season game.

Washington has positively just owned Girardi this series.

i picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue…

  98. Mister Delaware says:

I’m a good person. I thought he blew out his knee at first and I honestly hoped he didn’t.

  99. mbonzo says:

Too bad Hamilton didn’t step on a landmine.

  100. Reggie C. says:

Who knew Berkman and “motor” could be used in such proximity.

  101. swisher's fauxhawk says:

    Nice hustle, Puma.

  102. bonestock94 says:

Fuck yea berkman, I love this guy. Give him 4 mil for 2011, I don’t care if we have a DH surplus.

  103. Doug says:

anyone take pitches on this team

  104. Mike R says:

Come on Swisher.. You gotta be fucking kidding.. That’s probably the game right there

  105. Stratman9652 says:

I take back any bad things I may have ever said about you Lance. God has this guy turned out to be a great pickup.

  106. Hummingbird S. says:

What? Swisher failed with a RISP? That can’t be true.

  107. Big Bertha says:

Someone tell me why Ron Washington was able to pull Tommy Hunter in Game 4 when he started to get in trouble but Girardi can’t pull AJ or Phil when they got in trouble? Washington has managed circles around Girardi and that’s just sad. Someone needs to take the fall for this loss and Joe has to go.

  108. Esteban says:

Oh whoa Hamilton is hurt? Better off. I want the Rangers to get destroyed if the Yankees don’t come back

  109. poster on another computer who happens to be a deuce bag says:

    This game sucks. So. Much.

  110. jbkx says:

Time to switch to whiskey, been drinking beer all night.

  111. wow says:

aight y’all. it’s been fun, but i’m not giving this joke of a team (Texas) the time of day.

  112. Mister Delaware says:

    Jeter’s going to plow her.

  113. King of the Troglodytes says:

    Has anyone seen Nick Swisher?

  114. Andy says:

You know what? This isn’t Girardi’s fault or the pitchers’ fault. Our offense is just pathetic. Three hits off of Colby Lewis? Jesus. What an awful way to lose.

  115. Reggie C. says:

Honestly, I’d love to have Berkman back. Berkman’s a vet hitter who could probably put up DH league average numbers with ease. Can we not offer him arbitration and just bring him back as a full-time DH?

  116. iYankee(next generation from Apple) says:

6 outs left. Wow! Didn’t think at the start of the day that phrase would be used to describe the Yankees season but rather and a precursor to game 7.

  117. quinn the eskimo stole me face says:

Maybe Wood should have been in, but anyone who says CC should have come into the 4th is a moron. CC has probably never come into a baseball game with a man on 2nd in the middle of an inning. It also takes too long for him to warm up to get in the game by the time Hughes was toast.

  118. mbonzo says:

Uhm she sounds flat to me.

  119. Frank says:

Swisher- 2 absolutely dreadful post season performances.

  120. Carlosologist says:

Slick job by the cameraman getting a look from behind.

  121. first time lawng time says:

Look on the bright side people..if we lose this game it won’t be from a Mariano Rivera blown save or an extra innings heartbreaker like back in September.

  122. Daniel says:

We never should have let Melky go.

  123. candyforstalin says:

we simply don’t deserve it. that’s all there is to it.

  124. bonestock94 says:

Time to drink 3 sam adams octoberfests

  125. Sunil says:

What a terrible way to go out. i would rather get no hit by cliff lee than say we couldnt hit colby lewis for 6 innings

  126. ZZ says:

I don’t think Nick Swisher has a single hit with RISP in his entire postseason career.

    Not one.

  127. nathan says:

    We are getting close

  128. Ed says:

Making Lewis look like Cliff Lee. Two doubles and a triple, lots of fly balls and pop-ups. Guys trying too hard to crush the ball when what we need is to string some singles together.

  129. Ace says:

We gave up. I can’t believe it. This is how we go down?

  130. Doug says:

who’s clamoring for mo. mo should be in, right?

  131. DallasGreen says:

While many of Girardi’s moves will be discussed, he cannot take the fall for this one. The Rangers outplayed the Yankees – and more than I’ve seen them outplayed in a postseason series since KC in 1980. Gonna be tough to watch the Rangers celebrate. Gonna go pray for a miracle..

  132. JerseyDutch says:

I blame this whole year on not making Chad Gaudin the fifth starter…

  133. bonestock94 says:

If we do in fact lose tonight, it might cause Hank to get irrational and sign Crawford AND Lee. Silver lining?

  134. Hughesus Christo says:

    lol, another IBB

How many times have the Rangers IBBed Cano/ARod?

  135. Ivan says:

While I don’t think any hitter deserves this type of respect unless your name is Bonds, I can’t really blame Girardi for doing this. Vlad is just a mistake hitter at this point of his career anyway.

  136. jbkx says:

    Cliff Lee in ’11 please.

  137. Yankee Doodle says:

I`ve been watching this blog for a while and I`d just like to say that the vast majority of you are so full of shit, I can smell it coming through my computer

  138. Stratman9652 says:

Anyone else think Arod needs a bigger glove? Almost every ball hit his way has been an inch out of his reach.

  139. JerseyDutch says:

Come on, enough with the IBBs for Hamilton.

  140. Renny Baseball says:

It does seem that the Yankees’ poor luck in batting balls hard/right at people can keep lasting. Jeez I stand corrected!

  141. Aura and Mystique are not in texas says:

    Girardi really blew this game,

    • mbonzo says:

You’re not gonna win a game with 1 run. Do you want Girardi to go up there and hit a bomb for you?

      • Aura and Mystique are not in texas says:

Girardi has Ibb too many guys this series. and the Pitching rotation was fucked too it should have been

        • Rob says:

This is silly..Easy to say this bc it didnt work out..Hughes looks bad now, but was coming off a great start..Also you may be just exchanging W/L in Games 4 and 5, maybe you win game 4 (even though Burnett wasnt all that bad)..but I’m not sure AJ beats CJ, who knows, the results may not have been the same..and AJ may still have been pitching an elimination game, not so sure that’s too comforting.

      • Big DaveyNJ says:

  142. Sunil says:

This is really disheartening, phil wasn’t good twice in a row. the offense hasn’t clicked at all. good luck getting a decent contract jeet

  143. thames sucks says:

their lineup is relentless. our lineup has automatic outs like thames.

  144. Stratman9652 says:

Oh great lets get the bases loaded and bring in Joba.

  145. JFH says:

well RAB has turned into Sons of Sam Horn 2 tonight

  146. Rafael says:

    This is so depressing…

  147. Andy says:

How can we blame this on Girardi if we can’t score runs?

  148. thames sucks says:

why isnt mo in the game? moron girardi.

  149. Aura and Mystique are not in texas says:

Left in Hughes too long and Robertson? I guy who Well is over now.

  150. Carlosologist says:

This is the time when you tip your cap. The Rangers outplayed us in every way possible. It only seems fitting that our season ends with a microcosm of September.

I’d wish the Rangers luck, but they can go burn in a hole for all I care. San Francisco is bringing home their first trophy since the move to the Bay. Book it.

  151. Rafael says:

When things like this happen it makes me want them to get rid of people in the offseason. It feels like such a waste of a year watching all those games for this!!!

  152. Big Daddy says:

Johnny Damon and Hideki Matsui are sitting at home laughing at us. He knows that if we just gave them the money he wanted (and deserved) they would have some offense going.

  153. mbonzo says:

Mo will be up in the 8th everyone calm down.

  154. Shit, even Wood isn’t getting it done now.

    This is painful.

  155. Ivan says:

To be fair guys, this series just seem destine not to go the yankees way guys.

  156. Klemy says:

This game is so painful. I’ve lost every bit of hope I had. Acceptance is setting in and it hurts.

  157. jbkx says:

No spark in these Yanks. Sure they’re all pros, but someone needs to fire them up. Girardi manages like he’s scared of making the wrong move and in return makes wrong moves.

  158. Big Bertha says:

Game 1- CC , Game 2- Andy , Game 3- Phil, Game 4- CC, Game 5- AJ, Game 6- Andy, Game 7- CC. What was so hard about doing this? Giradi wasted Andy in this series, wasted him.

  159. King of the Troglodytes says:

A sac fly. Amazing how those small things like moving baserunners over and actually getting the run in with less than 2 outs add up.

    • Hummingbird S. says:

It’s easier when you can get baserunners, something the Yankees’ offense can’t do all that well.

    • Klemy says:

Every time they hit a ground ball, it was a hit and run, so we never got the double plays. Every other time they hit the ball and found grass. Painful stuff.

  160. It'sATarp says:

i swear the Rangers have to have some guy tipping the hitters off…no way all our pitchers become this futile so fast

  161. first time lawng time says:

SO Yanks gona lost this series. But look at it the way they lost. I mean it;s not like they were ahead 3-0 and blew like some other team did. And they weren’t exactly the greatest team this year. I mean they were really good but it’s not like it’s surprising that they lost or an upset.

  162. poster on another computer who happens to be a deuce bag says:

The Yankees won a WS last year and made it within two games of a WS this year, after winning a combined 198 games.

Good job, Yankees, and good job overall Girardi.

Disappointing ending to this season, but overall a fine two years.

  163. Ivan says:

Look on bright side guys, next season we will all celebrate a walk off homer by Jesus Montero…

    • Reggie C. says:

I’m sure Jesus Montero will scratch off a couple personal achievements next season , such as:

      1. first major league hit
      2. first major league hr
      3. first major league menage on the road courtesy of DJ
      4. first major league walk-off
      5. first major league menage on the road courtesy of AROD
      6. etc…

  164. China Joe says:

I believe Yogi Berra said it best: “Teams that can’t beat Colby Lewis don’t get to the World Series.”

    Perhaps I’m paraphrasing…

    • Klemy says:

hahahaha nice. I;ve been sitting here all nigth saying to my brother-in-law…”Shut down by Colby fucking Lewis. Really?!?”

  165. batman says:

    I miss Joe Torre…

  166. Ed says:

I would have bet a large sum of money that the Yankees would have been able to get at least an RBI off of Lewis. Pathetic.

  167. Jerome S says:

    Hey gemius’s,
Matsui and Damon sucked balls this year. You seriously think that they would have done better as a Yankee?
You’re a fucking idiot, that’s all I have to say.

  168. nathan says:

I just hope up all you pessimistic haters wake up as Pirates fans for 3 days.

You are making this very hard for rational fans

  169. yungsta says:

The best thing about losing would be not reading Big Bertha’s bullshit anymore.

  170. DOOM & GLOOM says:

Girardi didn’t blow the game. We’ve been severely outplayed through 7. Period.

  171. jbkx says:

    Bottom of the lineup, yeehaw!

  172. Hshehhj says:

They’ve sucked since the All Star game.

  173. ZZ says:

Many of you do realize that the players AND Girardi can be at fault.

This is baseball. It is not an either/or. It never is.

The comments about Girardi not being able to perform for the players, or sarcastically it’s Girardi’s fault when a player doesn’t perform are incredibly stupid.

The Yankees are not performing this game AND Girardi managed the situation horribly.

    • Hughesus Christo says:

No, it’s 100% Girardi or 100% ARod. Strawmen are the balls.

    • All Star Carl says:

You’re not gonna win hitting as bad as the Yankees are with RISP. The Rangers are hitting 200 points better.

    • DOOM & GLOOM says:

What did he do that was so horrible? Really?

    • CP says:

Girardi hasn’t made any stupid moves. Just because the players haven’t performed doesn’t mean he made the wrong move.

      • ZZ says:

Are you not watching the game?

This is an elimination game and for the 2nd time this series he managed it like a regular season game.

Leaving Hughes in was incredibly stupid, just like leaving AJ in was.

Bringing in Robertson who has been throwing batting practice into the biggest spot in the game was incredibly stupid.

Joe knows how much he fucked up with Robertson. That’s why he got Wood up right away after Robertson predictable got hammered.

He had zero feel for the game, unlike Washington.

    • Name me one area of this team that has performed well this series.

      Rotation, Bullpen, and Lineup.

      • ZZ says:

One of the major confounding reasons the starting pitching numbers look so bad is that Girardi left Hughes twice now and AJ once too long.

All 3 of those games were winnable, especially AJ’s start which was unbelievably pathetic managing to go down in flames with one of the worst starters in baseball.

You also never know how the offense plays different if they weren’t down 4 or 5 runs every fucking game, because the starters were left in to implode.

  174. poster on another computer who happens to be a deuce bag says:

If the Yankees tie this game, I will shit my pants.

Sorry to be so…disgusting. But it’s the truth.

  175. jhn says:

can we trade hughes for colby lewis?

  176. Jay says:

Who is on the bench to hit? Anybody for Gardner if Posada and Thames get on? Or will Girardi call for a bunt? :)

  177. Aura and Mystique are not in texas says:

Swisher should be gone soon he can not produce in the postseason.
Give me Lee and Werth and trade Swisher.

  178. MPQ says:

Im going out later and buying a Bernie Williams jersey, to remind myself of a player that actually produced during the playoffs.

  179. Aura and Mystique are not in texas says:

Roberston and Joba can go too.

  180. Rafael says:

Jeter swinging at that first pitch for a groundball earlier pissed me off so much. Whatever happen to working pitchers???

  181. Andy says:

I’ve never seen a team hit like Rangers before. Are they really this good? Aren’t we statistically the stronger offense? I just don’t understand. Losing is one thing, but this whole series has been really really tough to swallow.

  182. Yankee Doodle says:

How can any of you idiots defend Girardi? he hasn`t done a thing for the Yankees since they got him. First manager not to take them to postseason in a dog`s age, wins last year with a team my grandmother could have won with, and probably lost them 10 games in the regular season alone this year. He has topped it off with an absolute mediocre performance in October and some of you bozos come to his side? This team will never win as long as that arrogant ass hole is managing.

  183. Aura and Mystique are not in texas says:

Bring up Montero and tell posada his catching days are done and if he wants to play its as DH only.

    • Murakami says:

They’re going to split the catching/DH chores next season.

If you think Montero is some kind of upgrade defensively over Posada, you’re in for a rude awakening.

Defensive catchers don’t win championships. But guys who hit and contribute to turning over your lineup, do. It’s been proven, actually. By the New York Yankees, in fact.

  184. quinn the eskimo stole me face says:

Just wondering, where the fire Cashman hate is? I mean he signed Nick Johnson, CHoP, Winn, and traded for Javy. I don’t want to fire Cashman in the slightest, but I was wondering where the “Cashman should have better equipped Girardi” rant is?

  185. Cy Pettitte says:

Bring back Matsui, Damon, Melky, Hariston, Hinkse, Bernie Williams, David Cone, Mike Mussina, Paul O’Neill, Tino Martinez, Chuck Knoblauch, Ramiro Mendoza, AND Hideki Irabu

    and El Duque too

  186. Dave G says:

Here we go Yankees. BE PROUD!!!!!

  187. Aura and Mystique are not in texas says:

Lowball Jeter and tell him he needs to think about another position than SS real soon.

  188. EB says:

colby fucking lewis… if he doesnt dominate in the WS i’ll be pissed

  189. Ed says:

Bet you anything Colby Lewis gets hammered in the WS

  190. I still haven’t given up. The 9th inning isn’t over yet.

    Let’s go, boys.

  191. Reggie C. says:

Colby Lewis has the same initials as Cliff Lee.

I guess the magic is in the letters.

  192. jhn says:

  193. batman says:

i got circumcised yesterday for good luck, turns out i just wasted some perfectly good forskin

  194. Mister Delaware says:

“How many games have you attended in the last 5 years before these playoffs?”

    [fan holds up 4 fingers]

  195. iYankee(next generation from Apple) says:

Well at least they are rolling over and trying to get those 6 outs quickly.

  196. A-Rod's Hip says:

Brett Gardner.. sometimes they throw you strikes, and when they do u have to swing

  197. MPQ says:

Time to bring Bernie and Pauly out of retirement.

  198. first time lawng time says:

Everybody stop blaming Girardi. Yeah I hate him and he makes dumb decisions, but these are all star players should be able to execute. Kinda hard to win a series when you have a cast of only 4 players: Cano, Pettitte, Mo, Granderson.

I don’t have the stats this series in front of me but these are who I feel are the culprits:
    1. BABIP bad luck
    2. Phil Hughes
    3. Using Mitre
    4. Mark 0-ALCS Teixeira
    5. A-Rod and his 4 (?) hits
    6. Jeter had a few big hits but could’ve done better
    7. CC was not “ace-like” (or to his potential at least)
    8. The bullpen wasn’t stellar
    9. Gardner and his automatic 2 strikes
    10. Thames
    11. Using Cervelli
    12. Everyone else not names Eiland, Pena, Berkman, Girardi, AJ or the 4 guys that did well

  199. Andy says:

    Colby Lewis? Really?

  200. bonestock94 says:

I don’t hate the Rangers, not sure who I’d root for in the WS if this goes the way it’s going.

    • Alex S says:

I just hate that antler bullcrap and Andrus’ lucky hits

      • bonestock94 says:

Yea, Andrus is annoying and I don’t acknowledge the other shit. If the Phillies come back definitely going for Texas. If the Giants win, I don’t know, I like them.

    • JFH says:

depends on who wins the NLCS. anybody but the phillies. insufferable fan base.

    • JerseyDutch says:

Giants. Who will proceed to crush the Rangers. Book it.

    • BigBlueAL says:

I dont root for any team other than the Yankees and I dont root against any team either.

Just watch the WS and enjoy it as a baseball fan, although to be honest by that time the NBA season will have started and with the Yankees out my attention will be fully devoted to the Knicks and the NBA. Although I will definitely be following a watching a bit of every game of the WS for sure.

  201. Stratman9652 says:

I’d go apeshit if Gardner started another rally.

  202. Dave G says:

Before I forget, thank you Mike, Ben and everyone at RAB for another wonderful resource this season. Thanks.

  203. Aura and Mystique are not in texas says:

Joba Robertson Swisher and Montero for Hanley Ramirez Jeter to RF

  204. Carlosologist says:

An assessment of the playoffs at RAB: The worst in everybody comes out. There are horrible things said. Only when we lead is the situation palatable.

  205. Doug says:

who wants to bet jeter swings at the 1st pitch

  206. Cy Pettitte says:

seriously guys, we NEED to bring back El Duque, he’s not doing anything with the Nats

  207. It'sATarp says:

Honestly this is not a bad season seeing we were so close to the WS with a depleted rotation again. We just ran into a hotter tea this year. Get cliff Lee or another quality arm and try again next year.

  208. jbkx says:

    Send Gardner.

  209. iYankee(next generation from Apple) says:

Funny Twitter post… Rob Neyer is such a Yankee hater.

The quality of the Yankee ABs the last three innings has been extremely low. Royals-on-a-getaway-day low.

  210. J-Livin' says:

    How ’bout Jeter taking one!

  211. Marc says:

Cliff Lee is on my xmas wish list

  212. James A says:

Drowning my sorrows in a Newcastle Brown Ale, pumped for the Cliff Lee introductory press conference in a few months
Biggest differences between this year and last: Kate Hudson, Johnny Damon’s hair, Hideki Matsui’s porn collection, the play of the Captain, Kate Hudson, AJ Burnett going from average to bad, and of course, Kate Hudson
Football, basketball, and hockey, could be worse. Lets go Giants! San Fran and New York!

  213. Rafael says:

If Jeter doesnt get on now he should be gone man

  214. J-Livin' says:

    weak hack coming!

  215. Ed says:

How did they ever win two?

  216. mbonzo says:

    WTF did Jeter just do?

  217. Doug says:

can we designate jeter for assignment

  218. swisher's fauxhawk says:

Let’s get working on those contract talks, Derek.

  219. J-Livin' says:

As I was typing it he did it.

  220. alexh says:

  221. S says:

I don’t know whats more frustrating getting our asses beat 5 times (yes I’m including game one because we were being owned the entire time except for one inning) Or the fact everyone except granderson, cano, andy, wood, and Mo played like they didn’t want to win. This team needs to wake up next year, this makes no sense to be manhandled like this.

I wouldn’t be so mad if they actually put up a fight and made this a tough series but let’s face it, everyone except those mentioned above went out like bitches.

  222. IvanS says:

Oh my god…has Jeter ever had a worse swing in his career?

  223. bonestock94 says:

Colby Lewis is pitching on fear of going back to Japan. What a fucking motivator.

  224. It'sATarp says:

on a side note i would love to take jeter’s money and give it to Cliff Lee

  225. Yankee Doodle says:

Jeeter`s time has come. Hate to see him slowly fade away slowly making a fool of himself.

  226. Jerome S says:

Jeter sure summed up his season in this game.

  227. frosty says:

this team has never seen a slider before? wtf is this shit?

WOW, DO NOT RE-SIGN JETER. Look at that swing he has no bad speed and his pitch recognition is just about gone. Anyone want 4 more years of that? GTFO JETER.

  228. Dorian says:

We were outplayed in this playoff series at the shortstop position.

  229. Cy Pettitte says:

Rangers attendance numbers for the last 5 years:

ok, seriously, where are all these people coming from?

  230. Sunil says:

why didnt girardi bat swish 2nd? swisher has excelled in that position all season long. while grandy hasnt done anything. he just messed up the flow

  231. jbkx says:

That damn twat Lewis walking off the mound with not a care in the world. Hope he gets poison ivy on his eyelids. Goofy Prick.

  232. NYY + ALCS = Death by BABIP

Cliff Lee goes to the WS with Texas and wins? Would the Yankees have any shot to put him in pinstripes after that? I doubt it.

  233. Doug says:

2/20 contract for jeter. if he says no, tell him to find something better on the open market. when he can’t and comes crawling back, you sign him.

  234. Tank Foster says:

I’d just like to point out to the ARod haters/Jeter lovers that the Captain hasn’t hit the ball out of his shadow and has been totally fooled by a journeyman pitcher, while ARod has hit the ball hard every time up, and scored their only run. Not that it matters, but can we do away with the clutch crap?

    • Hughesus Christo says:

Interesting that he had a .500+ SLG 2 hours ago “without hitting the ball out of the IF”

Oh wait, that was bullshit? K, cool.

  235. Rafael says:

Man Jeter is cooked. Seriously, he is going on rep alone…

  236. nathan says:

I hope Cashman communicates to Jeter that the lead off spot is not set in stone next year. And dont go more than a 2 year deal

  237. King of the Troglodytes says:

Mystique and Aura has left this team – they must have had a bad case of genital warts.

  238. first time lawng time says:

So you put Mo in in a 5 deficit game but not a 2 deficit game? Interesting.

  239. Rafael says:

I/m just gonna keep watching to see the master Rivera pitch. What a player…

  240. Mike says:

yeah bring in mo now, that makes a lot of sense

  241. alexh says:

I was kidding with the Jeter line, u guys are crazy for bashing a yankee legend. Even if he is past his prime!

  242. Alex S says:

    The curse of Cameron Diaz

  243. Zooboy says:

Thanks Kerry Wood. If that’s it, nice job in pinstripes.

  244. b0dylanguage says:

thanks, everyone, for an entertaining season.

    • Matt M. says:

thanks for having a level head too. it hurts to have the team go down like this, but theyve given us a lot to look forward to every day for 7 months of the year.

  245. dan says:

take a good look the players.they r not playing like they want it….they r sitting on their fat wallets.lack of passion….oh well we lose but i still am a zillionare

  246. Aura and Mystique are not in texas says:

O-dog said today on the fan Colby Lewis has something nasty for the yankees tonight. I believe him now.

  247. MPQ says:

I blame Andy for not pitching today.

  248. iYankee(next generation from Apple) says:

  251. Slappy White says:

  252. Dorian says:

Derek Jeter has a Rookie of the Year, 5 World Series Championships, A World Series MVP, An All Star Game MVP, 10+ All Star Game Trips, Silver Slugger Awards, and respectfully represented the New York Yankees and the city of New York with dignity.

This is the thanks he gets from the fans. I am ashamed to be a Yankee fan in association with you clowns.

    • Doug says:

      • Murakami says:

Jeter is the face of the franchise. He makes money for the Yankee Brand, and he will continue to do so, even as he declines as a player.

Jeter is special – he’s Joe DiMaggio. He will retire a Yankee. The team will make sure of that.

      Welcome to New York

    • ChrisR says:

You are not the only one that feels this way, people are can so irrational

    • bonestock94 says:

Plus he had a good ALCS.

    • tom says:

Second this. Too many people posting here sound like they started watching baseball this past July

As Roger Angell once said, all but one of baseball’s teams end the season with the taste of Indian pudding in their mouths. It’s what makes the game hard, and also what makes it so beautiful

    • Teatime says:

I’m quite disappointed as well. I know it’s been a bad year for him, but it’s as if the years before never existed. Just one year before this he was having one of the best seasons of his career. Astounding how quick the tides turn on someone.

    • Klemy says:

To be fair, it’s not everyone. You could be a little less self righteous. Level headed people aren’t losing their shit.

      • Dorian says:

Self Righteous? That man has given me and my family COUNTLESS memories and great times. One of the last days I spent with my father was watching Derek Jeter fall into the stands in ’01. It’s ridiculous the things I am seeing here.

        • Murakami says:

Man, this post made me tear up.

My dad is also transitioned (in 2008 – somehow, it was appropriate that we didn’t make the postseason that year, at least, for me).

He always would grin and say “That’s our Jeter…”

My Dad saw Ruth and Gehrig play when he was five years old. He and my aunt would flash their sweet smiles and the construction guys working on the place would always help them sneak in.

The Yanks are my Dad’s team. Always will be.

    • Murakami says:

It’s mostly the newbie fan. They’re the same people who booed Alex through every AB, booed Rivera, etc.

Their premature ejaculating, attention-deficit, post-expansion football mentality, hollow people who can’t stand losing, regardless of how much their teams have won. They have no appreciation for the magic of baseball. They focus on loss because they’re made of loss.

      Pity them.

  253. vin says:

Unfortunately I stand by my statement from a week and a half ago that the Yanks matched up better with the Rays. How nice would it have been to face that relatively anemic offense?

I did not expect Colby Lewis to pitch his balls off though.

  254. Ed says:

I think he’s right when he says the Texsas team plays baseball. Executing. Hitting, running, fielding, bunting – contact, ground balls, productive outs, stealing bases, making big pitches, making it happen. Impressive series from them. Yankees just sitting back and waiting for big hits, not getting them, and not pitching well.

  255. Carlosologist says:

If Mo got hit hard in this inning, I may have cried.

  256. jbkx says:

Jeter deserves to go out a Yankee. He has earned everything coming his way.

  257. JerseyDutch says:

    If I never again hear Ernie Johnson’s Kermit-like voice, I’ll be a happy man…

  258. texas blows says:

I wonder how this team of druggies and rapists will celebrate tonight?

  259. jbkx says:

At least MO is still MO.

  260. candyforstalin says:

rivera is, in any circumstance, a pleasure to watch.

  261. JerseyDutch says:

Nut up or shut up time, boys.

  262. Will says:

You “fans” complaining are what gives this team a bad name. Yeah it looks pretty grim right now, and outside of the Twins series this team hasnt looked good in a while, but shut the hell up.

We made it this far and I know getting knocked out stings, but gift it a rest. Those of you making this asinine comments right now are going to look back on this season and realize it’s been a good run.

Trashing the coaches when it’s not their responsibility, and turning on the players now is pretty pathetic.

Show a little class and give the team the credit they still deserve.

    • Will says:

People always say “Yankee fans are the worst” well I’ve been one my whole life and I’ve always diagreed but with everyone bitching like spoiled little kids, we definitely come across like a bunch of d-bags.

The commenters here that won’t stop looking to blame people really need a reality check.

      • Klemy says:

A lot of it is overreaction, just like people losing their mind criticizing the people losing their minds. People are upset and not thinking clearly. Let them get it out and get over it. Most people will be more level headed tomorrow.

        • Murakami says:

And there’s wisdom in this, too.

It’s just unfortunate when pain can’t just be felt and acknowledged, but has to become the worst kind of ridicule. It’s one thing to bemoan strategic decisions that arguably could have cost games. Going over and over and over what might have been.

When people start hating on the older Yankees – I’m not going to have any compassion, sorry. Really – we just lost. STFU about Derek Jeter.

    • King of the Troglodytes says:

For what? Rolling over like a bitch?

    • Carlosologist says:

Agreed on all points. All Yankee fans nowadays are whiny little bitches. You guys belong in Queens and Boston, seriously.

      • Mister Delaware says:

(That’s not fair. I’m level headed but in Boston.)

        • Carlosologist says:

Well you know what I mean. I’m talking about all these “fans” that come here thinking the Yanks are entitled to a title every year. Get some perspective, please.

      • Slappy White says:

Easy there buddy, Im not whinin

      • Murakami says:

These are the same jerks who wear those “Do the Math” shirts and wear those gaudy jackets.

I have always steered clear of that stuff. The Yankees are the Yankees – no need for embellishments. The interlocking NY says it all.

These overstatement types are wannabes – they wannabe associated with success, with winning. They’re not people who lived through Horace Clarke and Omar Moreno.

They don’t remember Paul O’Neill’s hand clinging to second base before we went down against Cleveland. They disassociate themselves immediately when defeat finally proves to be inevitable. They don’t remember Rivera saying we had to lose in 2001, because if we had won, Enrique Wilson would have stayed for the celebration party and would have been on the plane to the Dominican that crashed over Queens.

They don’t embrace ANYTHING Yankee that does not end in a World Series. They are fans of winning, not fans of the Yankees.

    • Teatime says:

I couldn’t agree any more. I love reading rational comments, but it’s a shame that they’re the minority here tonight.

  263. Cy Pettitte says:

Cashman’s gonna be like a fat girl who just got rejected tonight, except instead of the ice cream he’s gonna be going for that checkbook tonight

  264. alexh says:

Why didn’t Andy pitch game 6 and Sabathia pitch 7 each on 3 days rest?

  265. Our season comes down to Grandy, Cano and Alex.

  266. Ehren says:

Fellow fans, lose with some dignity: we had a great season. We’re not entitled to win every year, and a season without a ring is NOT a failure. Even though he lost, we have to feel good about Hughes for next year, Gardner was a beast, Swisher continued to be a great pick-up.

I know we’re all frustrated, but enough of saying that 6 games cancels out an entire season. Rangers were the better team this time around. Congrats to them. Yankees fans, prove the haters wrong and lose with some class.

    • Will says:

      Ahmen to the OP.

    • Mister Delaware says:

    • I expect the Yanks to make the playoffs, and with their payroll you have to have higher expectations than you would for other teams. So to miss the postseason would be a disaster. After that, it goes like this:

-To lose in the ALDS is a major disappointment.

-To get to the ALCS is a good year.

-To get to the World Series is a VERY good year.

-To win the WS is a great year.

      • poster on another computer who happens to be a deuce bag says:

Agreed. We had a good year.

      • Murakami says:

Yep. Getting to the ALCS after winning the whole thing a year earlier, and nearly winning your division before being beaten out in the last week of the season – in the best division in baseball – is admirable.

Especially when you have an older team. You pay the price when you go all the way. How well have these older players held up? Last season, I knew early we were going to win the whole thing. It gave me such satisfaction, because I was calm and could savor it as it unfolded. It was particularly dear because the old Core Four guys were going to spit in the face of the calendar and pull out one more.

I can’t even relate to the ugliness in here regarding these players. Really, it makes me kind of sick to my stomach.

  267. Andy says:

The stadium is going to go extra nuts if Alex makes the last out.

  268. jbkx says:

    I feel a rally!

Hope it’s not just acid reflux.

  269. Nuke LaDoosh says:

    we play the 9th inning
we score 6 runs in the 9th inning
    Das it.

  270. Patrick says:

It was a great season. Playoffs started out great and this series didn’t go our way. We did some things right, a lot of things wrong and the breaks didn’t go our way. Last year, Damon got a double steal that helped us put the nail in the coffin and A-Rod hit a camera. Without either of those things, maybe the series lasts a little longer or (God forbid) goes the other way. The HBP that wasn’t seemed good at first but may have hurt us more than it helped us. Oh well. Goodbye 2010, hello 2011.

    • handtius says:

we all point to them, but they made it work and the yankees didn’t. it happens and will happen again. it’s tough to win every year. but they’ll be right back at it next year and i’ll be looking forward to uit, starting in about 56 hrs. need to morn a wee bit.

      Heyman is an ass gasket.

  295. jhn says:

choke-rod to end the game. perfect.

Rangers aren;t gonna get this much BABIP in the WS bank on it…who every their facing will bring them back to earth.

  298. handtius says:

now i can go have a life for the winter. good going guys. it’s hard to get here every year and you do if more often then any other team out there. I’ll be looking forward to a hard fought season next year.

  299. Reggie C. says:

Man i hope the Gmen put the beating on the Cowboys on Monday…

  300. Dave G says:

Congratulations to the Texas Rangers. Now off to writhe in pain.

  301. Cy Pettitte says:

seriously guys, I don’t mind losing the ALCS, but did it have to be to Texas? they’re all so punchable and their fans are annoying as hell. Would have rather lost to the rays, dead serious.

  302. Carlosologist says:

    Thems the breaks folks.

Offseason should be fun. Cliff Lee will finally make his pinstriped debut.

  303. first time lawng time says:

  316. J-Livin' says:

Would love to see who stays next year.

  317. Big DaveyNJ says:

    It’s okay guys.

The ’97 Yankees didn’t make it to the World Series either.

  318. nathan says:

Maybe after 2002 this is the first time we were simply outplayed.

  319. vin says:

The Yanks just got outplayed. What can you do? They have more talent, but it didn’t show up at the right time.

  320. candyforstalin says:

the first order of business: resign girardi.

  321. tom says:

Just wasn’t our year. Lots of things went wrong; the team still got within two games of the World Series.

Anyone who can’t appreciate that isn’t worth conversing with

  322. Marc says:

Wtf? Mini cooper advertising that the yanks are going to the world series.

  323. Ed says:

Just wish we could have put up a decent fight. Texas hasn’t even faced a challenge yet. Agree I think the WS will be a sobering reality for them.

  324. poster on another computer who happens to be a deuce bag says:

Disappointed, but not NEARLY as much as I would have been last year. Last year I would have been borderline crushed since we were veryh clearly the best team.

This year it’s just kind of annoying. Ah well.

    • tom says:

Yeah: going into the playoffs, I said it wouldn’t surprise me if they got knocked out in the first round. Unless you win the World Series, you end up the season bummed, but the later you face that feeling, the better things have gone.

  325. first time lawng time says:

Finally. Given they we were outplayed this entire series, losing doesn’t feel as bad.

This has been my first playoff loss and it doesn’t even hurt. I mean that strikeout was nice and anticlimatic. No baserunners = no getting my hopes up. Quick like a bandaid folks! You move on and pray to God it’s not a Texas Philly WS.

Good season (until September, cause that sucks bawls lol).

    Go giants!

    Here’s to 2011!

  333. Carlosologist says:

History will repeat itself next year. I hope it does.

1996 and 2009: First World Series title after a long layoff
    1997 and 2010: “Hangover” year
1998 and 2011 : Best team in baseball by far and beginning of a new dynasty.

  334. Congrats to the Texas Rangers. The better team won.

  335. Teatime says:

Game over. Thanks for the interesting year, Yankees. Definitely helped keep my sanity during that hell of a junior year. I wish you guys had played a little better during the ALCS, but I can’t really ask for much more.

Go whichever NL team makes it to the World Series. (Preferably the Giants!) Congratulations go out to the Texas Rangers, but you’re going down at the next level.

  336. Joe D. says:

Congrats to the Texas Rangers. A very well-deserved trip to the World Series awaits the team that was smart enough to snap up Colby Lewis, trade for Cliff Lee and Josh Hamilton, and convert C.J. Wilson to starting.

Great season, Yankees, and running deep into the postseason makes for a worthy follow-up to the 2009 World Championship season. Thanks, Yanks.

  337. bigbu says:

the best thing that can happen will be the rangers losing in the WS and the yanks signing cliff lee soon after. a big fuck you to texas. go fuck your cousins and your cows, fkin texans.

  338. JFH says:

go SF Giants. thank you to the regulars on this board for keeping me entertained all season. thank you to Axisa, Kabak and Pawlikowski for the great site. i’ll look forward to hearing your views in the off season and next year.

  339. jbkx says:

Now I’ll have to see a shitload of Texas bandwagon riders here in Kansas. Nowhere to hide.

  340. Andy says:

How was that game so fast? Did that really just happen? I don’t understand why we hit so poorly this series and I will not stop saying it.

  341. Stratman9652 says:

Totally stoked about a matchup between Cliff Lee and the Freak, just throwing that out there.

  342. Reggie C. says:

You know what would be worse … getting beat by the Rays. At least the Yanks showed that they’re only the second best team in the AL this year.

  343. JerseyDutch says:

It wasn’t all that we hoped for, but it was a fun season, Yanks. Let’s hope for a better 2011 on our way to 28!

  344. It'sATarp says:

Difference between the yanks and rangers? We’ll be here next year, Rangers won’t

  345. Hshehhj says:

    Horrible year by Girardi

  346. tom says:

And, before I forget, a big thanks to this site for providing a home…and to the (actually fairly decent) percentage of commenters who understand it’s a hard game and don’t start crying or lashing out when the team doesn’t win

  347. Not sure if this has already been brought up, but the Claw and Antlers…how is that not the most obvious form of taunting the game has ever seen? We are definitely biased at this point, but as a fan of the traditional game, am I wrong to think it isn’t?

  348. jeter's legacy says:

if you support the texas rangers, you support the drug cartels in mexico.

  349. dkla says:

    we should have been swept

    just an old-fashioned ass kicking

thanks rab for another great season!

  350. texas blows says:

hamilton’s going to get smashed tonight. hopefully he falls off a balcony or something.

  351. Big Bertha says:

And come Monday we better get official word that Joe Girardi has been fired as manager of the New York Yankees. I don’t care who else they bring in here, they could manage twice as good as Joe did this series. We also need to sign Cliff Lee in the offseason and find some way to get Matsui and Damon back in the Bronx.

    • BigDavey88 says:

      This settles it.

You are a troll. Your opinions are not valid.

Not that any of that needed any confirmation anyway.

  352. Xstar7 says:

This Series left a bad taste in my mouth
