Why is everyone convinced that the season is over as soon as the Yankees are down?

GAMES ARE NOT OVER IN THE SIXTH FUCKING INNING
Hughes wasnt ready to come up big. The kid just wasnt ready.
He gave up 4 hits in the game, including one infield single. If the Yankees could score some, his outing would look very different.
Yeah, Girardi should have never pitched him after he won 18 games this year. A much better choice would have been going with AJ Burnett twice, or giving Mitre or Gaudin a start.
Now wins are a measure of pitching ability? Hughes second half was straight unimpressive and the young man was bailed out many a time.
I’m not damning Hughes for tonight’s performance. Tonight was simply a case of a young, inexperienced pitcher facing a talented lineup and getting beat. Was AJ a better option? Nah. But, that’s the state of the Yankees and thus you posited an entirely different question.
If someone is going to bitch about Girardi starting Hughes (as many have) then they are obligated to provide an alternative. The other options are all clearly worse, therefore it was the right move and these people are just vomiting out irrational nonsense.
Is there a statistic that measures how many times they bring the tying run to the plate when you say they will?

Yes. Robertson is the 3rd best reliever on the Yankees. There is a lot of baseball left to play. Who else do you bring in? It made perfect sense.

Why Yanks lost this series
25 2 strike hits for Rangers this series (and counting); too amny runs allowed with 2 outs- the inability to close out an inning has plagued this team all season;Yanks offense totally inept; poor execution of pitches(Hughes throwing a hanging curve to Vlad, who swings at anything, is a perfect example of why he has a long way to before he becomes an elite starter);if Yanks wind up losing this game, they would have lost twice to Colby Lewis and a game started by Tommy Hunter(at home).
Why they lost the series is because Girardi decided to flip Andy in Phil because he thought it was brilliant strategy. Andy wins game 2 and he’s still pitching effectively in this one. Hughes loses game 3 and we never have to hear from him again in the series. Andy was wasted in this series.
Um it was actually a good idea at the time, considering how well Phil had done at Arlington.

It’s easier when you can get baserunners, something the Yankees’ offense can’t do all that well.
Every time they hit a ground ball, it was a hit and run, so we never got the double plays. Every other time they hit the ball and found grass. Painful stuff.

From 1996 to 2009, this franchise has been in the World Series seven times. That’s a 50 percent clip. It’s remarkable. They’ve won five World Series Championships during that run.
They also made it to the ALCS after winning it all last year. If you haven’t noticed, it’s extremely difficult to repeat. Why, the last team who did it was us.
They’re getting beat. There were some decisions made that didn’t come back to haunt us last year, because we were so good we overcame them. There were some this year that were strategic blunders we couldn’t overcome.

I expect the Yanks to make the playoffs, and with their payroll you have to have higher expectations than you would for other teams. So to miss the postseason would be a disaster. After that, it goes like this:
-To lose in the ALDS is a major disappointment.
-To get to the ALCS is a good year.
-To get to the World Series is a VERY good year.
-To win the WS is a great year.

Yep. Getting to the ALCS after winning the whole thing a year earlier, and nearly winning your division before being beaten out in the last week of the season – in the best division in baseball – is admirable.
Especially when you have an older team. You pay the price when you go all the way. How well have these older players held up? Last season, I knew early we were going to win the whole thing. It gave me such satisfaction, because I was calm and could savor it as it unfolded. It was particularly dear because the old Core Four guys were going to spit in the face of the calendar and pull out one more.
I can’t even relate to the ugliness in here regarding these players. Really, it makes me kind of sick to my stomach.

It was a great season. Playoffs started out great and this series didn’t go our way. We did some things right, a lot of things wrong and the breaks didn’t go our way. Last year, Damon got a double steal that helped us put the nail in the coffin and A-Rod hit a camera. Without either of those things, maybe the series lasts a little longer or (God forbid) goes the other way. The HBP that wasn’t seemed good at first but may have hurt us more than it helped us. Oh well. Goodbye 2010, hello 2011.

Disappointed, but not NEARLY as much as I would have been last year. Last year I would have been borderline crushed since we were veryh clearly the best team.
This year it’s just kind of annoying. Ah well.
Yeah: going into the playoffs, I said it wouldn’t surprise me if they got knocked out in the first round. Unless you win the World Series, you end up the season bummed, but the later you face that feeling, the better things have gone.
Finally. Given they we were outplayed this entire series, losing doesn’t feel as bad.
This has been my first playoff loss and it doesn’t even hurt. I mean that strikeout was nice and anticlimatic. No baserunners = no getting my hopes up. Quick like a bandaid folks! You move on and pray to God it’s not a Texas Philly WS.

Not sure if this has already been brought up, but the Claw and Antlers…how is that not the most obvious form of taunting the game has ever seen? We are definitely biased at this point, but as a fan of the traditional game, am I wrong to think it isn’t?
