Game 161 Spillover Thread

I think the Yankees broke that last thread, it wasn’t working properly. Here’s a fresh one.

Categories : Game Threads

  1. Stay tuned for Gaudin v Atchison in the second half of this game!

  2. first time long time says:

come one kearns…put the ball in play but no dp

    • first time long time says:

      kearns sucks as of late

      • JGS says:

He does, but he won’t be seeing too much action in the playoffs, and he is still a better hitter than Nunez, Pena, and Golson.

        • first time long time says:

thats true but its like hes an automatic K now. wont even put the ball in play!

        • William says:

Kerns is not a better hitter than the three you mentioned! He makes zero contact. Pena is much better with men on base when he bats lefty than KKK Kerns. Golson adds more to a playoff roster, with his speed and defense than the plodding Kerns.

      • Scooter says:

You can take “of late” out – he hasn’t been good since the Yankees first got him

With Granderson’s improvements at the plate – esp against lefties – I wonder if Golson wouldn’t add more to the roster

  3. Apollo22237 says:

Thread broke, huh? It must be AJ’s fault.

  4. Greg says:

    Kearns, that wasn’t even close

  5. Esteban says:

Why are you guys bringing back the spillover threads? i like them but u guys basically never used them this season

  6. swishers fauxhawk says:

  7. UWS says:

  8. Henry says:

I hope to hell this guy is not on the post season roster.

  9. Total Dominication says:

Just gonna repost my reply to some asshole saying we’re never gonna win the WS. I think people should read it.

Who else is gonna win it? The Twins who just yesterday reminded themselves how to win a game? The rays who have a 2 player offense, and their superstar is banged up? The Rangers, who have an all around inferior team to the other 2. Perhaps you think it’ll be the NL. The Padres or Giants with their utter lack of offense? The Braves with their lack of an ace or an overpowering offense? The Reds with their 1 player offense? Or their Phillies, who admittedly pose the best threat, but have a lineup that will be completely neutralized by the lefties in the postseason, and the bp in the latter third of the games. Did I mention they have an ok closer, a good su man, in a e=otherwise barren bp? So why, pray tell, should the Yankees not win the WS>

    • ThrillHouseMD says:

Maybe the team with the worst starter ERA in September?

    • Henry says:

I want the Yankees to win. Badly. But, the wonderful thing about baseball is the unpredictability. The Marlins in 97? Cardinals in 06?

    • Greg says:

      The Phillies
Most complete team out of all of the teams.

I didn’t say they were never gonna win the WS. In fact they have won the WS so that statement is stupid. I just don’t think its their year, but I could be wrong.

The reason: Repeating is very difficult to do. The Yanks were the last one to do it. and they did it in the previous CENTURY.

    • Jose the Satirist says:

Any team in the playoffs has a chance to the World Series. Just ask the 2006 Cardinals. I do however agree the Yankees are setup well to have a shot at the World Series. Your post sounds a little too arrogant though, especially by saying “So why, pray tell, should the Yankees not win the WS”.

    • Poopy Pants says:

Why would you care so much about what one person says? Jesus christ. Get a grip.

    • Dalelama says:

The Phillies have better starting pitching and are currently playing better…I would say they are by far the biggest threat to #28.

  10. Adam says:

I had forgotten how awesome Enrique Wilson’s slide was on that play.

  11. Cy Pettitte says:

put Thames in the outfield? lol

  12. first time long time says:

i am thoroughly disgusted with this offense right now.

  13. Total Dominication says:

Cervelli doesn’t hit ‘em much harder than that.

    • Stratman9652 says:

I’f hed just bring that front foot back in a bit and get balanced hed have a bit more pop. How can K Long watch him fall into the plate that often without going “Hey somethings wrong here”?

  14. Hughesus Christo says:

Can someone explain why Mike Lowell would get his own day? The Red Sox’s general shittiness as a franchise really is underrated. Never let them forget that Tim Wakefield holds all their pitching records. Lowell is there for five years and he gets to give a speech on the field like he’s Lou Gehrig?

    Boston is so provincial.

  15. Jerome S says:

    This team can’t score runs.

Except for the ten runs that they’ve scored so far today. Those don’t count!

  16. first time long time says:

ok aj. just breathe. focus. make your pitches. just forget about last inning. your better than that. had some bad luck. thats all dont unravel. throw strikes and keep your team in the game

  17. Avi says:

Back to Chad Moeller. Is there really ANYTHING cervelli does better than him??
    Drama doesn’t count..

  18. first time long time says:

was arod positioned weird on that? or was it just me?

  19. first time long time says:

base hit is not a big deal aj. just make your pitches. all you gotta do is focus. dont unravel

  20. Zack says:

Jerry and Don are talking about taking baths over on NESN…and i thought Fox was bad

  21. Graig not Craig says:

AJ is a “House of Horrors” pitcher.

  22. Avi says:

    Nunny showing off the arm

  23. Greg says:

    Saying of the year:

“There are different ways for carving a turkey”

  24. first time long time says:

nice dp aj. been working well for you all night. just 1 more out. just focus and make your pitches. 2009 WS Game 2: never forget

  25. first time long time says:

dont be wild aj. just. focus.

  26. Kit says:

I love you, AJ. I really do, but I wish you were better. This shit breaks my heart. And yes, I did just notice the three errors.

  27. first time long time says:

come one aj. its lars anderson. dont be afraid of him. its not albert pujols. doesnt have to be a so. groundoutss are fine too

  28. first time long time says:

nice bounceback inning aj. i am very pleased. now if only the offense could score some runs…

  29. Bryan G says:

I’m sure it’s been mentioned, but how does even AJ, as bad as he’s been lately, give up 3 runs to basically the Pawtucket Pawsox?!?!? Is that what he’s fallen to, a mediocre AA level?

  30. Dream of Electric Sheep says:

The owls of Ga’hoole? Somebody must be smoking when they greenlighted that title!

  31. Big Stein says:

Freaking Michael Kay has been unbearable tonight with his AJ bashing.

I finally gave up and turned on the Red Sox broadcast.

  32. Carlosologist says:

    Bring on the lolpen!

  33. swishers fauxhawk says:

Kay seems very passionate about this.

  34. JobaWockeeZ says:

I come home and see AJ gave up 2 ER over 5 IP. WTF. No way.

  35. Graig not Craig says:

way to comment first time. now focus. keep your head in the game. we need you to keep aj sharp.

  36. first time long time says:

maybe, just maybe, me calling our offense stupid assholes and stuff is sending them bad vibes. maybe if i send them good vibes they’ll hit?

    • Poopy Pants says:

This character is actually a great summation of most of the people on the site. Unfortunately.

    • Henry says:

Maybe. If this good vibe thing is working, then maybe you should meet AJ and put your hand on his head and heal the pitching shitoritis he has.

  37. Cy Pettitte says:

    BG steal machine tonight

  38. All Star Carl says:

Good job waiting on 2 strikes to steal BG.

  39. Jerome S says:

Gardy gonna get to 50 at this rate.

  40. JerseyDutch says:

Jeez, GGBG, you were out by a mile…

  41. JobaWockeeZ says:

Wow he would have been done.

  42. first time long time says:

ok boys,we got a runner on second, just bring him home some how. doesnt have to be anything big, just bring him home so we can give aj some breathing room.

  43. first time long time says:

    ugh, so close.

  44. Ivan says:

I know it has been only one full season but, I gotta say, I never thought Gardner would be this good…

  45. Stratman9652 says:

Just terribly bad defense today on both teams.

  46. first time long time says:

alright aj: kalish, nava, reddick. totally manageable. you can do this. if you screw up, just remember: you, your wife, your kids dont have cancer. life could be much, much worse. just remember our plan: breathe, focus, and make your pitches. 2009 WS Game 2: never forget.

  47. Dream of Electric Sheep says:

    It’s almost Chadwick time !

  48. Scooter says:

Stop thinking AJ… let things happen… be the ball

  49. JobaWockeeZ says:

Why should he be rewarded for that?

  50. first time long time says:

ok aj, that was a blooper. just bad luck. he was limited to a single. remember just step off the mound and breathe a little. just focus and dont unravel make your pitches

  51. JerseyDutch says:

For no particular reason I hate Kalish with a fiery passion…

  52. Hughesus Christo says:

The bloops, errors, and comical umpiring is making this look MUCH worse than it is.

  53. JobaWockeeZ says:

So which one is the AAA team?

  54. swishers fauxhawk says:

    Comedy of errors.

  55. I’ve seen better games played in little league.

  56. Hughesus Christo says:

AJ is cursed. Cursed with Cervelli’s poor defense.

  57. CBean says:

Nunez is not impressing me tonight.

  58. Ivan says:

I can’t watch this game at all..

  59. Mike Axisa says:

What the hell is this crap?

  60. Marianos Pimp Hand says:

Hmmmm, 2 more Gardner steals would help my fantasy team out greatly. Think he can get to 7 on the day?

  61. first time long time says:

just focus. dont get wild. make your pitches. this runner on third is not your fault. just aggressive baserunning. nothing you can do about it. dont unravel. just focus and make your pitches

  62. Dream of Electric Sheep says:

DArth Helmet says : resistance is futile !

  63. Kit says:

Did you guys butter up your gloves before playing? The D is awful today.

  64. LGY says:

    This is so much ass

  65. Scooter says:

Crappy throw by Cervelli – but Nunez just flat out missed it

  66. Ray the Anti-Handle says:

Oh lord, this game is unwatchable.

  67. JerseyDutch says:

Really? Really? A few more throwing errors, please.

  68. Graig not Craig says:

Awesome fielding. Where’s Walter Matthau and Tatum O’Neal?

  69. first time long time says:

come on aj. 2009ws game 2: never forget

  70. Henry says:

Wow, I wonder if last nights game with all that rain would have been this sloppy. I mean, it is a make up game of a rainy day.

  71. Ivan says:

  72. UWS says:

I’m sitting here watching this shitfest, laughing hysterically. I mean, what else can you do at this point?

  73. first time long time says:

aj, your unraveling. dont do this. your better than this. by hitting him though, you set up the double play, which has been your friend tonight. just breathe. focus. make your pitches. dont unravel

  74. Henry says:

    I like Nunez’s hustle.

  75. CBean says:

A double play right now would make me beyond happy.

  76. first time long time says:

alright aj 1 out. just breathe, focus, and make your pitches. dont get wild. its ok if they run on you cus theyre gona do it anyway nothing you vcan do about it. just focus on the batter. make your pitches

  77. Poopy Pants says:

Why does everyone want the Yanks to play the Rangers in a short series so badly?

  78. swishers fauxhawk says:

Michael Kay is going a mile a minute.

  79. Zack says:

Posada has the worst arm ever. Literally.

  80. first time long time says:

    that was a strike…

  81. Avi says:

The red sox are showing that they are well aware of cervelli’s poor throwing skills.
Do the yankees really think Boston is the ONLY team that realizes this??

  82. JerseyDutch says:

Gut check, boys. No matter how this inning ends, you have time to score more runs.

  83. first time long time says:

just focus aj. no meltdowns., no unraveling. make. youur. puitches.

  84. Graig not Craig says:

Mikey Kay repeating the obvious playoff scenarios in monotone droll. I’m getting sleepy.

  85. first time long time says:

alright aj. one more out. its just a sac fly. no big deal. game wouldnt be tied if your damn offense could score you some damn runs. dont unravel. just step off the mounsd and breathe a little. its kevin cash not yogi berra. that pitch was not outside btw. just focus and make your pitches

  86. UWS says:

Bold prediction: this game will not make it onto Yankees Classics.

  87. CBean says:

I’m assuming if we lose tonight, it’s the SWB Yankees playing tomorrow?

  88. I wish I could hear what Francessa is saying about this game.

  89. first time long time says:

aj limiting the damage wooooOOOOooo. nice job aj. you pitched way better than the score. late games and double headers bring out the loopiness in everyone. chances are on a normal game, youd have only given up like 2 runs. 2009 WS Game 2: never forget. thats who you are AJ. Not game 5. game 2.

  90. Ray the Anti-Handle says:

OK, either Pitch f/x is off or we have another blind ump behind the dish. It’s like they’re allergic to calling the bottom part of the plate.

  91. first time long time says:

    do it for cam arod

  92. first time long time says:

that was stupid arod. just stupid. utter disgrace today arod. not happy with you arod.

  93. Jon in CUO says:

  94. Jerome S says:

Remember when A-Rod stole 20+ bases in a season?

    • Jose the Satirist says:

Remember when he stole 40 bases and hit 40 homers in a season? Beast.

    • Mike Axisa says:

Meh, he’s stolen 20+ only six times in 15 full seasons, and three of those were in his first four seasons. This is only the second time he won’t have double digit steals, the first was eight years ago.

      • Jerome S says:

Still, his speed used to be one of his deadly weapons. It’s pretty much gone. A younger Alex could have beaten that throw. It’s not his fault, it’ just the inevitable.

  95. swishers fauxhawk says:

Leiter and Kay are going to break out the fisticuffs soon.

  96. first time long time says:

lets get aj the win boys, he deserves it. redeem yourself for your ugly defense ugh

  97. JerseyDutch says:

Cano is the Greek god of batting…

  98. Total Dominication says:

Cano really wants his 200 hits.

  99. first time long time says:

come on berky do it for aj…

  100. All Star Carl says:

Cano 1 mo hit for 200

  101. first time long time says:

this is getting stupid. i want the yankees to score

  102. JerseyDutch says:

Kay trotting out ‘penultimate’ again. Mr. Vocabulary.

  103. first time long time says:

oh goodness. kearns is up. pinch hit for thames

  104. Greg says:

    The K king is up

  105. All Star Carl says:

“I like the way Kearnzie was swinging the bat.”

  106. swishers fauxhawk says:

Austin Kearns setting a new record for suck.

  107. Hey, at least he didn’t strike out.

  108. tom says:

big situations really seem to find Kearns

  109. Henry says:

Shit, was is Kearns good for?

  110. Cy Pettitte says:

    fucking Kearns

    go away

  111. first time long time says:

kearns = not doing anything for aj right now

  112. Kit says:

C’mon, offense. We’re not asking for much here.

  113. first time long time says:

seriously cervelli if your not gona do anythign lean in and take one for the team (but nothing life threatending obviously)

  114. Jon in CUO says:

  115. Henry says:

  116. swishers fauxhawk says:

    Cervelli. Always liked him.

  117. Cy Pettitte says:

  118. Good job Cervelli, now you’re even on the day.

  119. first time long time says:

ok. good work boys good work. do it for aj. remembber: WS GAME 2: NEVER FORGET

  120. Scooter says:

    Frankie is CLUTCH! (heh)

  121. Dream of Electric Sheep says:

Darth Helmet answers his critics with a resounding poke!

  122. Total Dominication says:

What a season for the Cerve!!!!!! When he’s up he’s up! When he’s down he’s down!!! But when he’s really fucking up, he’s really fucking up!!!!!!!

  123. Evan says:

    Yay Cervelli.

Given how this game has gone, I’m surprised Cash didn’t throw that into CF.

  124. first time long time says:

alright noony. gardys on deck. if you think your gona make an out lean in

  125. Carlosologist says:

If Cervelli is the reason we win the division I will eat my shoe.

  126. Total Dominication says:

Cano and Gardy are charging for 200 hits and 50 steals respectively!!!!!

  127. first time long time says:

    bases loaded woooOOOOOoooo…
(checks to see how they’ve done with the bases loaded so far tonight)
    oh crap

  128. first time long time says:

ok, if we manage to hold on and win this (which we prob wont but whatever) then i want aj to get an honorable mention in the recap thread and i want to get honorable mention for the good vibes i sent aj, because thats clearly why he did well.
if its not too much trouble lol

  129. Ray the Anti-Handle says:

    Okie Dokie time!

  130. first time long time says:

lean in gardy, but dont get injured cus ur actually good

  131. All Star Carl says:

    Inside the park slam

  132. Bob Stone says:

Watching the game on NESN. The BoSox announcers call Cervelli “The Pest” and commented that he is batting .400 against the Sox this year.

  133. Poopy Pants says:

Why is Dice-K still in the game?

  134. All Star Carl says:

    Atta boy Berkman!

Way to tell him to go BG! Not.

  135. Look at Puma gettin down the line!

  136. JGS says:

Man, this is ugliest Major League game I have ever seen.

    • first time long time says:

      who boston or NY? lol

    • Kit says:

I still say the Royals game where they were playing D like it was human pinball was horrible. I think they also had three throwing errors and it wasn’t the D- line up either. AJ was also pitching that day. I choose to think that it was a coincidence.

    • Ivan says:

You must not remember the game game between the D-Backs in Arizona. That game was beyong brutal. At least this game can be somewhat justified because it’s game 161 and niether team has not much to play for…

  137. Cy Pettitte says:

  138. Total Dominication says:

    Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!! Texas, here we come.

    /Irresponsibly assuming

  139. swishers fauxhawk says:

Hideki Okajima is our best player.

  140. Ray the Anti-Handle says:

Such bad defense from both sides. At this point, I’m just laughing.

  141. Scooter says:

    Fat Elvis with the slide!

And more stellar receiving from Cash. So Cash

  142. Carlosologist says:

Puma has speed? Then again Posada has 4 SB so I shouldn’t be surprised.

  143. Total Dominication says:

Wow, Gardy just swung and missed.

    • Carlosologist says:

He wanted to the game out of reach with that swing. Then he remembered he’s Brett Gardner and doesn’t hit HRs.

(Note: This is in no way meant to be a knock against Gardner. He’s been dynamite all season for us.)

  144. Jon in CUO says:

I tried to say “SAFE!” after the wild pitch but got error messaged by the site:

“Duplicate comment detected; it looks as though you’ve already said that!”

Sorry, guys, for being redundant and unoriginal!

  145. first time long time says:

who comes out for the 7th?

  146. Dalelama says:

    Frankie comes thru!!!

  147. tom says:

Yankees continue to believe it’s more polite to score as few runs as possible at any given time. (Deeply grateful for that WP)

  148. Ray the Anti-Handle says:

This game would make one hell of a defensive miscue highlight reel.

  149. first time long time says:

o god mitre. idk if my vibes will work for him…

  150. JerseyDutch says:

    Mitre? Really?

  151. Total Dominication says:

Aside from the obvious lack of k’s, those numbers all look pretty good.

  152. James A says:

will anyone else be disappointed if we dont see brackman in the next 12 innings? whats the point of having him out there, he could keep gaudin fresh for the playoffs!

    • CBean says:

We need a blowout to see Brackman. I would prefer a blowout in our favor.

    • Jose the Satirist says:

I want to see Brackman pitch but won’t be that disappointed if he doesn’t pitch and we win the division.

      • JobaWockeeZ says:

Seriously Brackman isn’t going to exactly light it up. He had is first good year this year and he’s older than his compeition. He had a very successful year but even if he faces AAA or AAAA people he won’t be like 2007 Joba.

        • Jose the Satirist says:

He’d probably end up walking two guys and then hitting someone and everyone would flip out about why Joe put him in.

  153. Marianos Pimp Hand says:

    Ring warming in the pen.

  154. first time long time says:

well mitre, your not exactly aj, so i dont know how to approach this situation but you have a 2 run, your not the absolute worst pitcher in the world and just focus i guess. just dont cough up the lead. your not facing the 2009 red sox so, just relax. and remember: your not performing open heart surgery so its not like you have to worry about killing someone

  155. first time long time says:

nice job serg. just 2 more outs. dont fret. just keep your head in the game and relax.

  156. Carlosologist says:

  157. ThrillHouseMD says:

    Why Joe.

  158. Total Dominication says:

    Shouldn’t Logan be pitching?

  159. first time long time says:

alright royce. these guys were in the minors most of this year. your not facing real major leaguers. you can do this. just make your pitches and get the out so aj can get the win. because aj deserves the win. yeah. i said it. he DESERVES it!

  160. Scooter says:

Wow… thought Logan was coming in for sure.

    Audition time for Mr Ring

  161. Frigidevil says:

OK I’m sorry, but why is joe playing the matchup game when 7 arms have been used from the pen already tonight?

  162. Total Dominication says:

Joe should put in Albie next inning, he’s been dominating these guys all year.

  163. Mitre got two quick outs! That’s too fast! Get him out of there, the immortal JD Drew is coming up!

  164. first time long time says:

oh boy J.D. drew, well be happy that its not Joe Mauer. it could be worse. just relax and make your pitches

  165. Total Dominication says:

    aaaaand exhale.

  166. first time long time says:

nice job nice job. alright offense make this lead gaudin proof.

  167. Mike Axisa says:

    Wait … Nova’s warming up?!?

  168. Scooter says:

Weird… Nova was warming in the pen… so he’s a no-go tomorrow (pun intended)

Who the heck is pitching tomorrow? Javy? Moseley?

  169. CBean says:

Ok Mitre could actually go a couple of innings. We don’t really have arms left in our bullpen…this seems like a bad move.

  170. Jon in CUO says:

Someone fill me in. Is Kay’s “long day’s journey into night” line a recognized catchphrase of his? He said the same thing during the 15-inning A-Rod walk-off last year, and I know I’ve heard it a few other times. Maybe Kay doesn’t realize he keeps recycling the line?

  171. Hughesus Christo says:

The mics are picking up that group to the left of the batter’s box (our left) so perfectly… it’s kind of disturbing. And why are they so fricking loud.

  172. Dalelama says:

Who is the hot chick on the “Quick Pitch” pop up ad?

  173. CBean says:

Come on Tex. I know you’re tired. But just get a hit.

  174. bexarama says:

This conversation is… not the most racially enlightened

  175. CBean says:

So wait, Michael Kay, you’re telling me that not all Asians are friends? Really?

  176. Wil Nieves #1 Fan says:

    Cano looking for 200.

  177. Cy Pettitte says:

here comes #200 and #30 at the same time

  178. first time long time says:

    greenlight him?

  179. JobaWockeeZ says:

Cano making a stronger MVP case.

  180. Wil Nieves #1 Fan says:

That was bush league, Okajima. You’re gonna pay. Your whole family is gonna pay…

  181. ThrillHouseMD says:

    Thames Time.

  182. first time long time says:

alright thames, insurance runs. a single is fine dont let the bullpen be in position to blow it for aj. i want aj to get this win!

  183. swishers fauxhawk says:

    Ugh, shave that mongrel beard.

  184. ecks says:

Obviously, Cano still needs to learn stat-padding lessons from A-Rod.

  185. Avi says:

He better have a green light

  186. first time long time says:

ugghh i wish he broke his legs. stupid asshole

  187. swishers fauxhawk says:

    You’re not Derek Jeter, Navarro.

  188. Kit says:

    Red Sox Classic!

  189. Evan says:

What’s this? A GOOD defensive play.

  190. CBean says:

Ok that was a good play.

  191. Jesus the Saviour says:

    Jeter poser

  192. Total Dominication says:

No, that was not nearly as hardcore as Jete’s play,

  193. All Star Carl says:

Broken bat on a curve ball

  194. Carlosologist says:

Navarro is no Jeter. He doesn’t even have any scars!

  195. Cy Pettitte says:

please don’t compare Navarro to the Captain….

  196. Pfftt, that was nothing like Jeter’s play!

  197. Jerome S says:

Kinda seems fairer than a cheap BAbip single.

  198. Bob Stone says:

    Ugh. Great play by Navarro.

  199. Mike Axisa says:

    Navarro with the fauxJeter dive.

  200. JobaWockeeZ says:

Seriously, Jeter was full speed for a good 3-4 seconds, Navarro didn’t do shit.

  201. first time long time says:

alright royce just focus and get the outs. remeber we want aj to get the win

  202. CBean says:

I’m obviously very tired because for a second I glanced up and I saw the #61 and I had a fear of Chan Ho Park moment and then I remembered he was no longer with us.

  203. first time long time says:

alright that was a strike not aball. nbut a base runner is not a big deal. just make you pitches and focus. relax. you faced these guys before

  204. Carlosologist says:

Can we agree that this the theme to the postseason a la Empire State of Mind?: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGXzlRoNtHU

  205. Dream of Electric Sheep says:

A Cervellian Drive sounds so much grander than a Jeterian hit … just a random thought.

  206. first time long time says:

come on royce dont unravel. make your pitches. just brethe

  207. Total Dominication says:

Why did they keep him in??????

  208. CBean says:

    Gaudin time?

  209. JohnnyC says:

Royce Ring…not a major league pitcher. Sorry.

  210. Dalelama says:

    Old royce couldn’t get a call…

  211. All Star Carl says:

What the hell? If you’re gonna use Nova, why not give him a fresh inning?

  212. Wil Nieves #1 Fan says:

Royce Ring is a fat Brett Gardner.

  213. Mike Axisa says:

This would actually be a good time to use Gaudin. Nova struggles from the stretch.

  214. Interested to see how fast Nova throws when he knows he’s just in for an inning.

  215. RalphieD says:

theres really not a whole lot to do here if your committed to not using guys who pitched game 1…kinda have to hope to get lucky…it would be easier if the offense gave some cushion

  216. first time long time says:

alright nova. runner on 1 and 3 no outs. completely manageable. just remember all you have to do is make your pitches. just focus. breathe relax. dont get wild. dont focus on the runners. just concentrate on the batter and get him out. your not facing the 1927 yankees or anything. alright. just focus and make your pitches. dont unravel. remeber royce ring is your friend. gotta bail him out okay nova?

  217. JobaWockeeZ says:

I hope Nova doesn’t suck from the stretch.

  218. Total Dominication says:

  219. mustang says:

Who is going to start tomorrow?

  220. Wil Nieves #1 Fan says:

    That was horse shit, Nunez.

  221. Well that didn’t take long.

  222. Carlosologist says:

The defense in this game has sucked.

  223. CBean says:

Not a good night for Nunez.

  224. first time long time says:

wow nunez. dumbass. alright we still have a 1 run lead. that ball wasnt exactly smoked. come on nova just relax and make your pitches dont try to get too fancy

  225. Avi says:

Jeter doesn’t get to that ball

  226. swishers fauxhawk says:

    Little excited there, eh Kay?

  227. Total Dominication says:

    That was an interesting decision.

  228. first time long time says:

alright you got 1 out. just 2 more outs. just focus and make your pitches nova. ive seen you pitch before. all you need to do is focus. dont throw meatball but dont be wild

  229. Wil Nieves #1 Fan says:

“Let’s Go Red Sox” chants in meaningless games are always charming.

  230. UWS says:

LOL @some brave soul chanting “Let’s go Yankees!”

  231. Greg says:

    Ortiz pinch hit uh oh

  232. first time long time says:

    oh god

  233. bexarama says:

Why are they making such a big deal about this? Also it’s nice to not care about this game, at all.

  234. Ivan says:

    Nice test here for Nova…

  235. Kit says:

Ground ball DP, Nova. All you need, kiddo. Back him up, D.

  236. first time long time says:

come on nova dont unravel just relax and make your pitches dont be wild

  237. Cy Pettitte says:

this crowd is waaaaaaaaaaaay to excited

    • Ray the Anti-Handle says:

They’ve been watching the Pawtucket lineup. This is the most exciting thing they’ve seen all night.

  238. first time long time says:

thats being wild. dont be wild just focus and make your pitches

  239. Total Dominication says:

    Just IBB at this point.

  240. swishers fauxhawk says:

    Try hitting the zone.

  241. Wil Nieves #1 Fan says:

    Throwing strikes is overrated.

  242. first time long time says:

hes not that dumb nova hes not gona swing at pitches in the dirt. relax and focus

  243. JobaWockeeZ says:

Would you pick Ortiz’s option up? He’s good but 12 million? I don’t know. And John Henry reportedly doesn’t like being in Yankee territory in payroll…

  244. first time long time says:

if you have no command nova its oka if you walk him

  245. Hughesus Christo says:

Ivan Nova isn’t good? Well I’ll be darned…

  246. first time long time says:

just relax and focus nova make your pitches

  247. first time long time says:

    im gona barf

  248. Total Dominication says:

  249. first time long time says:

ok. its better than a hr just relax and make your pitches. and if i were girardi id putin a ddifferent pitcher nova doesnt look focues

  250. first time long time says:

alright gota throw strikes cant be wild nova just relax AND MAKE YOUR PITCHES!!!

  251. Total Dominication says:

Oh fuck, come on Nova, throw a fucking strike.

  252. Ray the Anti-Handle says:

    Strikes, Nova, strikes!

  253. Hey Ivan, it’s Kevin Cash.

  254. first time long time says:

wow nova yoyr better than this

  255. Carlosologist says:

  256. All Star Carl says:

Great time to experiment with Nova Joe :)

  257. first time long time says:

    dont unravel just breathe

  258. JobaWockeeZ says:

If you throw a 97 MPH fastball down the middle it will likely be a GIDP. C’mon.

  259. CBean says:

Alex explaining that Nova’s job is to get the out.

    • Jerome S says:

This is a simple game. You hit the ball, you throw the ball and you catch the ball, and sometimes you win, sometimes you lose and sometimes… It rains.

  260. Total Dominication says:

A-rod gearing up for the captain’s job in 2014

  261. Total Dominication says:

    You can do this Ivan.

  262. first time long time says:

no room for error just focus dont be scared

  263. first time long time says:

    uggh focus ivan FOCUS!

  264. Total Dominication says:

    You ok Cerve?

  265. Jerome S says:

Ring + Mitre + Nova + Albie… I’m aware that there aren’t any guys available but Joe, let’s not throw anything away here…

  266. Wil Nieves #1 Fan says:

I missed the majority of the game. On a scale of 1 to 2 (10 being the highest), how was Burnett’s performance?

  267. first time long time says:

    FINISH HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  268. Wil Nieves #1 Fan says:

“You gotta give Nova credit; he’s throwing strikes.

  269. JohnnyC says:

    Well, that experiment failed.

  270. JobaWockeeZ says:

Note to Red Sox fans, you’re fucking eliminated.

  271. first time long time says:

pathetic and embarassing. shouldve used someone other than nova

  272. Doesn’t get much worse than that.

  273. All Star Carl says:

Get your tickets ready for Minny.

    • Jon in CUO says:

Having been to both potential parks, that isn’t a bad thing at all. I’m sure Minneapolis is gorgeous this time of year.

  274. ThrillHouseMD says:

So we’re in the postseason now?

  275. Total Dominication says:

    Fuckity Fuck!!!

  276. Ray the Anti-Handle says:

Sigh, why can’t these games ever be easy?

  277. first time long time says:

ok just 2 outs. breathe and make your pitches just focusyour not facing mickey mantle or antyhignlike that just breathe itll be ok

  278. Total Dominication says:

Per Lohud, that was Kash’s first RBI of the season.

  279. first time long time says:

come on nova gotta make your pitches double play gets you out of the inning

  280. Total Dominication says:

    Good job.

  281. Bob Stone says:

    HUGE strike out.

  282. first time long time says:

nice job nova. one more out. dont unravel. step off the mound a little bit. breathe. think happy thoughts make your pitches focus

  283. Jerome S says:

  284. Adam says:

All things considered, a good job by the kid considering the circumstances.

  285. mustang says:

LMAO….These teams are just too much.

  286. first time long time says:

nice job nova. limiting the damage wooOOOooo!! alright lets just score some runs and hand the ball off to gaudin
eww i cant believe i just said those last 6 words

  287. RalphieD says:

    well…we can still win…maybe…right?

  288. Kit says:

All things considered, that wasn’t completely terrible.

  289. Dalelama says:

Isn’t kearns out of the game ?

  290. Cy Pettitte says:

    good job nova….?

  291. Adam says:

Dude, what are you people going to do in the playoffs when the games really matter?

  292. Total Dominication says:

Albie to close, like I said earlier, he dominated AAA, these guys are all from AAA.

  293. Scooter says:

    Not a completely failed experiment

I assume this is the first time Nova’s relieved – he had a chance to appear in a quasi-high-leverage situation, got rid of the butterflies. Yeah he screwed up with the walks – but the stuff is there.

Look – it’s just not THAT important to win this. It would be nice

  294. Jerome S says:

UNLEASH miranda, Cervelli and Nunez yayyy.

  295. Total Dominication says:

I think you mean Miranda, Posada, and Jeter.

  296. Jerome S says:

I just got blown away by the sound glitch.

  297. Cy Pettitte says:

    no PH for cervelli?

  298. Adam says:

So…do we see Swisher pitch an inning?

    • Jerome S says:

I think that it would be badass if A-Rod struck out the side.

    • Ray the Anti-Handle says:

Nah, his cranky knee won’t allow him to toss that mighty fastball of his. He’d have to pitch all arm, no legs.

Now Golson, on the other hand. Let’s see what he’s got =D

  299. Total Dominication says:

    Ummm, wow.

  300. Hughesus Christo says:

    Gazoo’d, bitches

  301. Dalelama says:

    Frankie on fire!!!

  302. Bob Stone says:

    CERVELLI – BoSox killer.

  303. Total Dominication says:

    Why Swish instead of Jete?

  304. Dream of Electric Sheep says:

    A mighty CERVELLIAN DRiVE !

  305. Total Dominication says:

    Come on Gardy!!!!!

  306. All Star Carl says:

    Sit down you scrub.

  307. Jerome S says:

’tis quite the bugaboo indeed, Kay.

  308. Kyrnan says:

did we bat out of order? what happened to golson?

  309. Henry says:

I’d pinch run for cervelli. Put moeller in and albie since they worked together plenty at AAA.

  310. Total Dominication says:

Why has Gardner decided to swing outside of the zone today?

  311. All Star Carl says:

    4-33? what a joke.

  312. Total Dominication says:

  313. Jerome S says:

    Swing Gardner!! You can hit!!

  314. Dream of Electric Sheep says:

    A Gardnerian tomfoolery !

  315. first time long time says:

eww. offense hasnt been the most pleasnt thing to watch tonight

  316. JohnnyC says:

Nice display of situational hitting by the Yankees in this doubleheader.

  317. Carlosologist says:

And the pitch was outside. Excellent call, Wendlestadt.

    (dismissive wanking motion)

  318. Graig not Craig says:

Tito will pinch hit Lowell who will jack a walk-off bomb over the monster.

  319. All Star Carl says:

Remember in 2007 against the Indians when Kenny Lofton kept getting those 2 out RBI?

  320. Jerome S says:

Could someone please tell me the Yankees PH stats this year?

  321. Dalelama says:

Brett is still the King of taking the called third strike down the middle.

  322. first time long time says:

alright guys im gona give in and stop my positive vibes and if we lose it’s because of that

  323. Ray the Anti-Handle says:

    Let’s get to extra innings!

(Really wish it didn’t have to come to that… again.)

  324. Jerome S says:

So… Girardi cared about this game until the sixth inning?

  325. Total Dominication says:

That’s ok, he’s the one guy you can give up a hit too.

  326. first time long time says:

that looked like a strike to me

  327. Total Dominication says:

    Ummmmm, great coordination guys.

  328. CBean says:

I really don’t like when Granderson and Gardner do that.

  329. tom says:

This has just been a brutal day. And I’ll stick with that even if the Yanks end up sweeping. Blowing 2-run leads late in each game (I know, the second time was dictated by circumstance, but it was also against a triple-A line-up) doesn’t make it feel like the team deserves to win the division.

It seems like, ever since the team realized it was so far ahead in the Wild Card race that a post-season berth was a near certainty, they haven’t played the same. I certainly believe they can recapture their top-level for the playoffs, but I’d like to see a trace of it now.

    • Graig not Craig says:

Get over it. This second game of a doubleheader with AAA players at one in the morning is not an indication of how the Yankees will play in the playoffs.

      • tom says:

There are a whole lot more Triple A players on the team that came back than the team that blew the lead.

And the failure to drive in key runs has been a weeks-long phenomenon that I’m starting to worry will bite them at a big moment.

  330. Brendan says:

Look. I know winning the division is a bonus and I’m sure you all will rip me but I think this game got Girard-died. WTF would you leave Ring(a situtational leftie who already did his job by getting Drew) in to start the 8th and bring Nova(a starter) in the middle of an inning. The guy is dangerous

  331. Jerome S says:

Yay let’s just leave Nova in all night.

  332. Total Dominication says:

  333. Scooter says:

First time Nova’s thrown the curve for a strike – it was a smart pitch call by Cervelli

  334. Jerome S says:

One more out. But if a good hitter (of which there are virtually none in sight tonight) hits one of those like that, it’s going over.

    Go A-Rod.

  335. Carlosologist says:

Jeez, these flyouts have been pushing the limitations of Fenway.

  336. Total Dominication says:

    1 more strike Ivan.

  337. Zooboy says:

I think this was a good try out for Nova and Ring. I don’t think either one makes the post season roster.

  338. All Star Carl says:

2 strikes on the batter and hes staring down the runner. Man come on.

  339. Jerome S says:

… Isn’t there a rule that no inning can start after 1:00??

  340. Total Dominication says:

Let’s go heart of the order!!!!!

  341. JGS says:

    Whoo!!! extra innings!!

  342. Cy Pettitte says:

2 extra innings games….I don’t know how much more I can watch with football all day tomorrow….lol

  343. Adam says:

Can any of you give the kid some credit? Or are you just going to bitch more?

  344. first time long time says:

ok nice job nova (im sorry guys i couldnt resist, really)

  345. Henry says:

I feel if the Yanks win this one, I am going to feel ridiculously relaxed.

  346. Dalelama says:

Here is hoping one of our big three hit a dinger.

  347. first time long time says:

you know whats annoying? (yes me i know its 1 in the morning get over it) is that if there werent for that stupid inning with the errors, we wouldve won this game by now

    • JGS says:

If things were different, they wouldn’t be the same

    • Henry says:

      Who knows.

    • Betty Lizard says:

if there werent for that stupid inning with the errors, we wouldve won this game by now

Unless, you know, the earth had split open and swallowed our team.

I’ve learned, finally, not to wish that things had been different as I’ve found out, sadly, that they usually could have been much worse . . .

Buck up, little buddy! “All is as it should be.”

      • first time long time says:

no. the defense for in that inning was miserable. inexcusable, unacceptable. pathetic and embarassing. just utterly ugly totally change the course of the game.

  348. Carlosologist says:

I wonder if they’ll be playing until 4 AM. Longest day of baseball ever.

  349. Henry says:

It would be funny if the last three games of the season were extra innings.

  350. Total Dominication says:

At least we have to starters on the bench to pinch hit.

  351. bonestock94 says:

I bet we see the F lineup tomorrow

  352. Ray the Anti-Handle says:

Phew. Please, please, please score in the 10th. Don’t need another 4+ hour game.

  353. Total Dominication says:

Kay just spiked my blood pressure

  354. Jon in CUO says:

Manuel has a funky delivery. Not very smooth at all.

  355. Scooter says:

“He didn’t even get a chance to flirt with the Pesky pole”

    Michael’s a funny guy

  356. Carlosologist says:

How cool would it be if Granderson homered? It would be just like the beginning of the season against Papelbon.

  357. Henry says:

    Steal second please.

  358. Ivan says:

    Tex hit a homer…NOW!!!!

  359. first time long time says:

the yanks havent hit a hr this game

  360. Ray the Anti-Handle says:

Err, kind of surprised Tex swung at that.

  361. Total Dominication says:

Now time for the go-ahead hit b A-rod. Preferably of the home run variety.

  362. bonestock94 says:

Jed Lowrie sounds like someone that should be selling alligator meat out of a shack in the everglades.

  363. Adam says:

Tex busting it always makes me laugh for some reason.

  364. Henry says:

Arod is locked in for a homerun dead center.

  365. Cy Pettitte says:

    fucking Kay got me AGAIN

  366. mustang says:

    Fuck me!

  367. Adam says:

    Damn, just missed it.

  368. first time long time says:

i hate michael kay so much i got my hopes up on that one

  369. Total Dominication says:

    FUCK YOU MICHAEL KAY!!!!!!!!! WHY???

  370. Carlosologist says:

Oh man, I thought that was out. A-Rod crushed it.

  371. Ray the Anti-Handle says:

DAMN SO CLOSE! Deepest part of the park.

  372. Ivan says:

    So fuckin close…

  373. Jerome S says:

It’s a deep wall, out there.

  374. first time long time says:

  375. Total Dominication says:

  376. Kit says:

Calm it down, Kay. You almost killed me there.

  377. Cy Pettitte says:

    lets go JoPo

  378. Adam says:

Remember when Red Sox fans had important games to cheer for, instead of getting really into a meaningless ballgame?

  379. Jerome S says:

    Kay JIHP’d

  380. Total Dominication says:

Did Cano get to 50 walks this season?

  381. mustang says:

Come on Jorge let the core bring it home baby

  382. Ray the Anti-Handle says:

Channel your inner TB blast, Jorge!

  383. Graig not Craig says:

    Wild pitch, please.

  384. Adam says:

    Double steal…double steal!

  385. first time long time says:

not expecting much right now not gona lie. (sorry jorgie)

  386. Carlosologist says:

My life: complete. I just heard a “Let’s go Jorge” chant.

  387. ThatGuyGreg says:

    *clap* *clap* *clapclapclap*

  388. Total Dominication says:

    Why isn’t Albie warming????

  389. Graig not Craig says:

    Hip hip – Jorge!!!!!

  390. Ray the Anti-Handle says:

Ahhh, a “HIP HIP JORGE!” chant at Fenway. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

  391. Frigidevil says:

I love the clearly audible Hip-Hip-Jorge!!!! The boos that followe were priceless

  392. Total Dominication says:

Miranda up next right, so that means Jete, right?

  393. bonestock94 says:

    BACK WAY BACK foul

  394. Total Dominication says:

    Soooooooooo close.

  395. Total Dominication says:

  396. ThatGuyGreg says:

    4 for 35.

  397. Jon in CUO says:

    Robert Manuel = Curt Schilling

  398. All Star Carl says:

    Posada oh Posada.

  399. ThrillHouseMD says:

Hall is going to end it.

  400. first time long time says:

you have got te be effing kidding me. berkman makes that play at first the game is over. we win

  401. Graig not Craig says:

    Jorgie juiced one

  402. King of the Troglodytes says:

  403. first time long time says:

this is where i disagree with girardi i would take out nova right here. idk who id put in, but i wouldnt leave nova in

  404. Ray the Anti-Handle says:

    Oh. My. Goodness. Juuuuust missed.

  405. Kit says:

    Creepy Alex Rodriguez stalker?

  406. Cy Pettitte says:

    FUCKING Bill Hall

  407. Total Dominication says:

Well, that was weird. Now take him out.

  408. Ivan says:

    Hahaha I kinda laughed their…

  409. All Star Carl says:

Ok what the hell just happened.

  410. Alex S says:

haha that girl ran up to Arod

  411. Total Dominication says:

    Pu tin ALbie!!!!!!

  412. Henry says:

Granderson should have gone allllll the way back.

  413. bexarama says:

LOL @ that person and A-Rod.

  414. Total Dominication says:

    Just don’t let him score.

  415. first time long time says:

well that was deflating. oh well at least we’re in the playoffs

  416. All Star Carl says:

Show the girl run on the field please.

  417. Ray the Anti-Handle says:

They are way too excited with this win.

  418. ThrillHouseMD says:

Chase em all the way to the golf course.

  419. Total Dominication says:

Well, that takes it out of our hands.

  420. Seriously how do you even celebrate a win like this

  421. JM says:

I still can’t get over how much they’re struggling against B-team Red Sox team tonight. It shouldn’t be this close. Double really? I guess Joe really doesn’t care about winning division. If we lose, we’re tied with Rays, right? and since they won season series..oh nevermind ergg!! Earn your money! Earn your division!

  422. bonestock94 says:

Walk off…onto the golf course you fucking losers.

  423. Jerome S says:

After leaving Nova in there for the third straight inning, what were we expecting?

  424. mustang says:

    GO KC !!!

  425. bexarama says:

(insert Homestar Runner “IT’S OVER!!!” noise here)

  426. first time long time says:

that was a hideous game. this is what happens when you leave the bases loaded and play poor defense. whatever they had better win tomorrow. stupid assholes

    • first time long time says:

and no i dont mean that last part im just frustrated

    • bexarama says:

      stupid assholes

You seriously need to just stop.

      • bonestock94 says:

        stop getting trolled

      • first time long time says:

whats the big deal? the way they played that game they deserve it (except cano)

        • Kit says:

Calling them assholes is: a) pointless because regardless of the result, they’re in the post season, b) childish, c) really stupid. Your words don’t affect them, but we unfortunately, read your garbage, and it’s annoying, so stop.

          • first time long time says:

so you can honestly say that you arent frustrated by the way they played? honestly they (other than cano) played like little leauguers today. they deserve to be called names, even if it does nothing. you get payed millions of dollars dont bobble the effing ball. you make millions of dollars put the ball in play when the bases are loaded instead of striking out like a moron. its your job. and honestly catch a fucking popup. you learn to do that in little league. its probably the only easy play in baseball. the point is this is its inexcusable, unacceptable, pathetic and embarassing, and utterly ugly.

my rant is over goodnight everyone. i apoligize for the obnoxiousness.

            • bexarama says:

              They’re not fucking video games.

              • first time long time says:

no but they are grown men. they shouldnt get tired for playing 2 leisurely ball games in one day. i mean seriously there are people in the army fighting in the war and getting shot at. they lose limbs. they lose lives. they get injured physically and emotionally. and these silly baseball players get tired out from playing baseball. these guys wouldnt last 1 day in the army.

                • first time long time says:

seriously though, why do you get so annoyed when people call the yankees names? i remember when you got annoyed when i said “greatest closer my ass” when rivera blew a save? people get frustrated it happens. honestly, what is the big deal?

                  • bexarama says:

Because it’s immature and they can’t hear you. And that Mariano thing was just silly, he’s far and away the greatest closer in the history of baseball even if he blew one dumb save.

Yes, people get frustrated. I get frustrated, so does pretty much everyone else. But somehow everyone else manages to restrain themselves and not call the team they friggin’ root for “stupid assholes.”

                    • first time long time says:

                      1. that was the 3rd blown save in a month hes better than that (and telling me to stfu was pretty silly)
                      2. im sorry but i personally feel that judging from the way they’ve played lately they deserve to be insulted. you want my respect, dont play stupid baseball. the team gets paid 200 million dollars. earn it

            • Kit says:

First of all, I wasn’t frustrated or annoyed by the way they played. They had scrubs filling in some spots and playing defense where our line up is usually solid. Those scrubs don’t get paid millions. The ones that do are our big producers who shouldn’t kill themselves to win a game that means nothing. They were obviously tired. Playing two games in one day is exhausting. It’s not “inexcusable, unacceptable, pathetic and embarrassing.” It’s a late September game that means all of zero.

              • first time long time says:

i would hardly classify getting a hit with the bases loaded as “killing themselves”

                • Kit says:

How about taking into account that hits aren’t automatic? You think they go out there thinking “Hey, I don’t want a hit. So I’ll just swing through whatever crap they throw at me. AND I’LL STRIKE OUT.” No. That’s not how the game is played.

                  • first time long time says:

obviously i dont think that and they dont do it on purpose but honestly every time they load the bases they draw a walk and then bail the pitcher out. honestly, considering its their job it should not be too difficult to get a hit. i mean the other team has no problems getting hits off our pitchers so why should it be a problem for our hitters to get hits off their pitchers?

                    • Kit says:

Because we only had our weakest pitchers available for the second game, of course it’s not difficult to get hits off them. Don’t compare the Boston pitchers to the Yankees relief pitchers. They’re in two completely different classes and they did get hits off Boston pitchers as well as walks. Not all things are made equal. You don’t get a hit just because the other team did. Again, not the way the game is played.

You know who insults the players in their team? Bandwagon fans who only love a team when it wins. If you’re a real fan, you learn to take the good with the bad and accept that your team can’t be phenomenal all the time. They’re human. They make mistakes. They’re not robots built for the sole purpose of making money and playing baseball. Be a mature adult about the situation instead of being a child about a meaningless loss. And I’ll bold that for you, just in case you require some comprehension help: Meaningless game.

Now in the future, please calm down with the posts.

                    • first time long time says:

                      “they’re human they make mistakes”
not getting a hit with the bases loaded is not making a mistake. its being bad at your job. if it happens once in a while fine it happens. but after a whole month of leaving runners on nonsense im sick of it.

                    • Kit says:

So if it bothers you so much, stop watching the games. Plain and simple.

    • Not Tank the Frank says:

  427. Greg says:

    Yankees beaten by the Pawsox.

    Congrats Tampa

  428. JGS says:

    about damn time

  429. Adam says:

Really…awards to give out? For what?

  430. Mike Axisa says:

    Thank goodness that’s over.

  431. Graig not Craig says:

Go Royals. Go Yankees. Go to bed.

  432. JM says:

oh well, in the time it takes to type it, it’s done, good night…see you in minnesota

  433. Avi says:

ALL of you would rather play Texas than Minnesota?

  434. King of the Troglodytes says:

How is a .240 hitter like Bill Hall 10 for his last 20 against the Yanks?

  435. Roy Munsons Rent says:

    “We’re number 3!”

  436. Adam says:

I am going to go cry myself to sleep…oh wait, it was a meaningless, second to last game of the season. I will sleep soundly and hope for Brackman tomorrow.

  437. Jon in CUO says:

    I can has Brackman tomorrow?

  438. Jerome S says:

So wait, no one wants to win the division?!?!
    Maddon: No, you.
    Girardi: No you!

  439. King of the Troglodytes says:

    Worst first place team ever!

  440. Roy Munsons Rent says:

You know it’s a shitty game when a pooch single with the infield drawn in was the “drive” of the game.

  441. first time long time says:

yet another game in which a blown call by the ump lost us the game. thats the 3rd one since august. i know its a meaningless game but COME ON!!its your job get the call right you stupid moron

  442. Carlosologist says:

At least I get to keep my shoe. If Cervelli hits his first and last HR of the season tomorrow then I’m fucked.

  443. Jon in CUO says:

    Worst meaningless game loss ever.

  444. Leo says:

It sucks being unemployed. Normally, I would’ve gone out to a bar or club like most Saturday nights and I would’ve missed this atrocious game.

  445. mustang says:

Wow! 4 for 37 with men in scoring position.

  446. Big Stein says:

Now I’m convinced, the Yanks don’t want the division.

I mean, Girardi went with Ring and Nova instead of his favorite Gaudin to end the game.

  447. Graig not Craig says:

If Tex is on first and Jeter at short – the Yanks win that game. They will be there for the playoffs.

    • first time long time says:

wouldnt necessarily go that far but berkman and nunez did make some costly plays. whatever im like already over it

  448. Dream of Electric Sheep says:

The biggest thing I got out this game , AJ pitched like the same AJ. I have zero confidences in the guy going into the playoffs.

    • first time long time says:

come on compared to how hes pitched of late i thought he was acceptable. he was just on the other side of bad luck, defense, and umpiring

    • Kit says:

That’s too bad, because he will probably be there, whether any of us like it or not.

      • Dream of Electric Sheep says:

he will. same AJ though, lack of command, basically operating on his FB alone for the entire game against a C lineup. It’s amazing to me at this point , team doesn’t score on him as oppose to the other way around.

  449. first time long time says:

4 errors??? FOUR??? im not even gona say it. you all know what im gona say. i dont need to say it.

    • JGS says:

And yet, by leaving this comment, you are saying it

      • first time long time says:

no what i wasnt saying was that 4 errors is unacceptable, inexcusaable, pathetic and embarassing, and utterly ugly

        • And you have to remember that the guys making the errors aren’t going to be playing the field during meaningful games later this week and that the Yanks weren’t going to risk injury in the second game of a double header that was game 161 of the regular season when a playoff spot is locked up. It’s all about perspective.

          • first time long time says:

thats true. but my problem is that cervelli will, in fact, play in the post season. i mean thats the 3rd time hes dropped a popup passed balls i understand, but popups? really?

            • The two teams were at the ballpark were well over 12 hours. It happens. If you really want to get that worked up, look at going 1 for 16 with runners in scoring position.

But honestly, they’re in the playoffs. None of this matters much.

              • first time long time says:

thats true. but honestly they really need to go back to their old selves with the bases loaded. i honestly cannot remember the last time they got a hit. just annoying

    • Ray the Anti-Handle says:

I think you’ve already said something along the lines of what you were going to say. I also think you need to relax and take a moment to breathe. It’s a baseball game that doesn’t have that much meaning to it. Reading your posts during this game freaked me out. I was imagining you sitting there hyperventilating.

So just take a deeeep breathe and remind yourself that it’s just a game.

    • Graig not Craig says:

Errors were by Berkman (2) Cervelli and Burnett with a makeable play at short missed by Nunez. How many of these players will be fielding in the playoffs? Zero. No worries.

    • You’re getting way too worked up over a game lost by the Yankee scrubs to the Red Sox scrubs. Big deal.

      • first time long time says:

the truth is though, at least half of the yankees lineup werent scrubs. the only scrubs on the yankees were nunez, kearns, and cervelli and yet they still lost to the sox. they really need to get it together.

  450. Big Stein says:

    Let Rays deal with CLee.

  451. JM says:

They really don’t deserve the division with play like tonight. Hard to watch so much talent wasted on less than a number one placement. Any haters out there who say yanks “buy” championships obviously never saw games like this. Now they got me all wound up, can’t sleep.

    • Kit says:

No team “deserves” anything. You earn it. Plain and simple. And if they earn it, it’s theirs, and rightfully so. If they don’t, it’s Tampa’s and they earned it. That “don’t deserve it” claim is old and it’s nonsense.

  452. Roy Munsons Rent says:

Burnett actually wasn’t awful tonight, he got out of a jam or two…I stilldon’t trust him in a playoff game and I know it was against the Paw Sox but at least he went 6 IP.

  453. first time long time says:

Positives from this game: cano, burnett got out of jams and didnt have any meltdowns, like ben said the guys that made the errors wont be here in the post season

    negatives: austin kearns, eveything else

oh well we play in like 11 hours. you win some you lose some. and thankfully the one we lost was meaningless cus were already in the playoffs
