Yanks send Shive, Cusick to Indians to complete Kerry Wood trade

Via Marc Carig, the Yankees have sent minor leaguers Andy Shive and Matt Cusick to Cleveland as players to be named later in the Kerry Wood trade. Shive had some sleeper potential as a relief potential, but he hasn’t really pitched much since having Tommy John surgery and will be 25-years-old in a few weeks without ever getting out of A-ball. Cusick, a 24-year-old utility infielder was the guy the Yanks got from Houston for LaTroy Hawkins a few years ago, and his best asset is probably his versatility. The Indians might have some use for him, but the Yanks definitely didn’t. No big loss at all.

I really enjoyed Cusick’s work in Grosse Pointe Blank and High Fidelity.

Although he seemed to actively try to ruin Hot Tub Time Machine.

It’s amazing what you do when you have a nearly limitless supply of money and know how to spend it properly.

Although honestly, what contending team down the stretch who needed bullpen help couldn’t afford $1.5M?

Although if everyone knew he’d be this good, he’d have commanded more of a Gagne-esque return.

I wish I’d saved my Hot Tub Time Machine joke for here. Because I would have written “That’s what I was saying during Hot Tub Time Machine”. Would have killed.

You’re ambition exceeds your grasp, comedy-wise.

I’m a work in progress. Tons of upside.

I’ll need you to report to the AZ Fall League for more seasoning.

But for Kearns they get a AAA pitcher who sill flirts with prospect status? Probably splitting hairs, but still somewhat strange-sounding to me.

prob bc the Indian’s main reason to trade Wood was salary relief..and he was just injured so prob coulnt command much in a trade..while Kearns was producing a little, but more importantly was on a minor league deal (so basically league minimum I guess) so there was no “salary relief factor” if you will
