Granderson scratched with right oblique strain

2011 Season Preview: Jesus Montero
ST Game Thread: A last look at Sergio?

Via Bryan Hoch, Curtis Granderson will sit out today with a right oblique strain. They’re already calling it a strain, which is never a good sign. We will hear more information after the game, but at this point I think it’s safe to assume a DL trip.

    1) fucking a.
    2) well maybe now we can start Nova and Colon and still keep Garcia and Mitre? Although I guess we’ll still need a 4th outfielder.
    3) fucking a.

  • Tom Zig

What the hell. How the hell do you people keep straining obliques?

    • Mike Axisa

Seriously, what the hell? Maybe the stretching routine is lacking.

      • rbizzler

Ha, you sound like this guy in LoHud a few years ago complaining about Marty Miller during the Great Hamstring Crisis.

    • The Honorable Congressman Mondesi

What do you mean, “you people?” (safe)

      • Tom Zig

haha I knew that was coming.

  • Gerald Williams

damn, terrible. Why are starters doing anything where they can get injured at this point in spring training.

    • rbizzler

Yeah, like taking batting practice. Wouldn’t want them doing that.

      • Gerald Williams

DO you even know that that’s how it happened?

        • rbizzler

Per Karl Ravech’s tweet and ESPN’s broadcast before the game.

It has not been confirmed by the Yankees yet.

  • Gerald Williams

And now two of my fantasy teams are all screwed up!!!!!!!!! GRRRRRRRRR!

  • Isaac

Didn’t this kind of thing happen a few years ago? I thought the Yankees already fired the bad conditioning coach.

    • Tom Zig

You mean the “director of performance enhancement”

What a poor decision to name the department that.

  • Monteroisdinero

C’mon-if Joba can bounce back so quickly-let’s be optimistic.

  • UWS

Are strained obliques this year’s strained hammies? WTF?

    • The Big City of Dreams

      Definitely seems like it

  • A.D.

Can we get an oblique watch?

  • Carl

If if is a DL trip, then so much for the full lineup in time for Opening Day.

    • Carl

      it*, not another if.

  • Fair Weather Freddy

Just great! With Opening Day and Justin Verlander looming in less than 10 days, we lose one our best lefty threats. So who fills in? Does this mean Justin Maxwell makes the team now?

    • Steve

He does by default, no? Him or Golson.

      • RubaDoob

why not put gardy in center and jones in left and carry another pitcher till grandy gets back?

        • yankeesdrummer

bingo, that sounds about right. i expect jones to start getting a lot of starts

    • Mister Delaware

Wonder if MLB will let us flip Detroit and Minnesota on the schedule.

  • Monteroisdinero

What would folks like to call it to make them feel better? An oblique tweek?

    • ROBTEN

I’m sick and tired of oblique tweets about oblique tweeks.

      • Pasqua

  • Urban

Did the Yankees hire the Mets 2009 physical trainers?

    • The Big City of Dreams

Could be similar to what happened yrs ago when everyone pulled a hamstring

  • mike_h

well if he lands on the DL Jones moves to LF and Gardner to CF and replacements are:

    Colin Curtis
    Greg Golson
    Justin Maxwell

    • mike_h

err scratch that Curtis is on the DL with that bum shoulder, so its either Golson or Maxwell

      • Smallz

Correct me if I am wrong but didnt Golson just come back from an oblique injury too?

        • Urban

It’s the curse of the oblique. Soon as Granderson comes back, another Yankee will go down.

  • bonestock94

This can put a hamper on the big year I was expecting.

At least its gonna be Andruw Jones starting, could be a hell of a lot worse.

  • Pasqua

I think a deep breath is in order here. With nine days until Opening Day, a DL trip could mean only about a week on the shelf for Granderson. Yes, this assumes a quick recovery time, but this is certainly not going be worse than his injury last year.

  • mbonzo

Soooo anyone think Mark Prior will make the team?
