Game 11: Show me something, Phil

In addition to being fabulous, Martin's nails help the pitcher see the sign. (via Martin's Twitter acct)

Phil Hughes‘ first two starts this season haven’t been good. In fact, they’ve been awful. He has the highest ERA (16.50) in baseball at the moment (min. two starts), and frankly he’s looked more like a career minor leaguer than a Major League caliber pitcher. He’s done work between starts to help try to find the missing velocity, but blah blah blah, the bottom line is he has to give the Yankees a chance to win tonight. If he can’t, then the next step might be a trip to the (phantom?) disabled list or the minor leagues. Here’s the lineup that will back him up…

Brett Gardner, LF
Derek Jeter, SS
Mark Teixeira, 1B
Alex Rodriguez, 3B
Robinson Cano, 2B
Nick Swisher, RF
Jorge Posada, DH
Curtis Granderson, CF
Russell Martin, C

Phil Hughes, SP

The YES Network will carry this game starting at 7:05pm ET. Enjoy the game.

Phranchise you better come through today.

    • king of fruitless hypotheticals says:

He’s my #3 starter (…4/5 are two guys from the D-backs, 1/2 are Halladay and Felix). He’s KILLING ME. Well…him and the White Sox’ Thorton.

My stats are a giant bag of wtf.

  2. S says:

ManBan is going on the dl…apparently he also has a blister

  3. Jeter having to cover short AND third is gonna suuuuuck. At least we’re covered at 2B with Alex and Cano.

  4. mbonzo says:

    Here we go!

    Manny Banuelos to the bullpen.

Pros: He faces major league hitters, can deal with controlled failure, gets to work with the big guys, Yanks get a damn good arm in the bullpen.

    Cons: Joba 2.0

If some of what I hear is true, I think most of it is just hype, Manny has the stuff to pitch in the majors. I’m still gonna say no, he should be stretched out as a starter this season and if he’s successful they can move him to AAA and then the majors. The Mets had success with Mejia last season in a similar case, but they got lucky he didn’t fall apart being moved between 4 different leagues.

  5. squishy jello person says:

    C’mon Phil

  6. Jose the Satirist says:

Tulo is on quite the tear. 7 homers already.

    • bonestock94 says:

Him and Josh Hamilton were talking to me during the drafts, but I was scared off by injury potential. Unfortunately I was right about the latter.

  7. Teh Comp Pick says:

Better fantasy catcher standard 5×5: Martin or Sado?

  8. Pat D says:

No long lunch for me today. I’m sad about this.

  9. bonestock94 says:

Martin’s hands, aside from the fingernails, look really feminine to me.

  10. MikeD says:

Watching MLB Network a little earlier, I’m really tired of Bob Costas referring to “authentic” stats. Yeah, we know Bob, you’re a huge Mantle fan, we all are, but let it go.

  11. Mike Myers says:

Arrieta vs. Hughes. 9ERA vs 16! This is like Halladay vs. Filix

  12. MikeD says:

Gawd, we’re going to have to listen to Kay give us radar-gun readings on every Hughes’ pitch.

Dear Phil, please find your velocity to spare us.

  13. Kit says:

Martin is beyond awesome. Also, let’s go Phil. I haven’t been able to watch you pitch this year and I don’t want to be sad.

  14. BigBlueAL says:

Velocity still not much better but looks like fastball has a little more life on it.

  15. Xstar7 says:

a 92 mph fastball from Hughes? GASP

  16. Mike Axisa says:

    Changeup, strike three.

  17. Greg Golson's Rocket Arm says:

Was that Phil’s first 1-2-3 of the year?

  18. jdp says:

no negative comments about gardner from me tonight
i’m just gonna wait for him to start proving me wrong, which i’d love to see
but here’s a philosophical question: when do we stop saying [in general, not just about a particular player] that “it’s early?”

  19. Mike Axisa says:

Stupid Vlad. How the hell does he hit that.

  20. IRF says:

    Interesting. A 2 strike hit

  21. MikeD says:

What are those 85mph things? Cutter? Change-up? Don’t tell me fastball.

  22. jdp says:

To those who hate the other team in town [a NY tradition]:
    The Debts got swept.

  23. nedro says:

    nice save, russ….

  24. Cy Pettitte says:

Phoul Phil hasn’t made much of an appearance yet, looks like his pitch count is safe….for now

  25. Jerome S. says:

Hughes looking Hughes-ish, so for now I’m happy.

  26. JimAbbottFan says:

This is definitely a more encouraging start for Hughes

  27. IRF says:

Nice! But I think the pitcher gets half a K for striking out Reynolds

  28. Jerome S. says:

A-Rod getting on base like a friggin’ tank this year.

  29. Frigidevil says:

Hahaha who else heard someone yell god damnit after ball 4?

  30. nedro says:

    Just a little patience.

  31. Skip says:

At this rate ARod won’t see a pitch to hit from an Orioles pitcher the rest of the year. Hello .500 OBP

  32. IRF says:

Sterling: “A lot of writers have talked about batting Cano third. And the reason they don’t-Its so obvious! is because you want protection for Arod”

Obviously, if you bat Cano third, you bench Teix

  33. Jerome S. says:

Damn Izturis and him trading hitting for defense.

  34. Esteban says:

When did this injury occur? Hopefully he didn’t have it when he signed.

  35. nedro says:

  36. Cy Pettitte says:

  37. Esteban says:

There’s the ’11 Hughes we know.

  38. Dice-Klay says:

They’re no saying booooooo, they’re saying hugh

  39. Yankeefan34 says:

    Hughes and that freakin’ cutter.

  40. Jake Jarmel says:

Joe better have a quick hook on Hughes. Colon is ready and the better option to win the ballgame.

  41. BigBlueAL says:

Hughes FB velocity is the big story but his cutter is the pitch that is constantly getting tattooed.

    • Skip says:

Kim Jones: “Keys are…don’t get cutter happy”

On cue with a single off the cutter.

Starting to think – was the move to the bullpen and learning the cutter from Mo the single worst thing to happen to Hughes’s career. Hamstring injury in 2007 included?

  42. Greg Golson's Rocket Arm says:

Who’s worse right now, Hughes or Dice-K?

  43. Xstar7 says:

Yankees offense better wake up because Hughes isn’t looking sharp.

  44. Dice-Klay says:

Moral of the story, never sign an ex-Met.

  45. JobaWockeeZ says:

Curve looks nasty if we try to bring out the positives here.

  46. nedro says:

jeez, he is really hangin some balls up in there…

  47. Jerome S. says:

that ford commercial is two years old!

  48. Cy Pettitte says:

    no more cutters, ever

that pitch does way more bad than good for him

  49. YankeesJunkie says:

Hughes’s fastball looks better tonight and his curve has nice break, but he can’t locate the cutter. More curve and change and less cutter please.

  50. MikeD says:

Oh, for goodness sake. If Joe Torre is the voice of sanity in bullpen pitcher abuse…

    • Skip says:

Again, I cite LoHud, they have a nice tidbit on it. Torre used to ask his guys if they felt ok. The pitchers would say “yes.” Cashman used to talk to both the pitchers and Torre about not using them so much. Clearly it didn’t take hold.

      • MikeD says:

Girardi charts out bullpen usage, including how many times they warm up. He won’t use them more than a certain number of times, no matter what they say, and I do think that’s one of the reasons the Yankees pens under Girardi has thrived. He keeps them fresh. Of course, his continually warming up of D-Rob this year doesn’t help the narrative.

  51. Jerome S. says:

I can’t believe the Yankees are hitless through 3. It doesn’t feel like that.

  52. YankeesJunkie says:

It would be nice to see the Yanks get better contact when they get ahead on the count.

  53. Teh Comp Pick says:

How do folks see the division shaking out now that we’ve had a brief peak at each of the teams?

  54. BigBlueAL says:

Answer to trivia Im guessing an old-school manager. Ralph Houk maybe??

  55. JobaWockeeZ says:

What a tool. Pretending the Red Sox don’t exist eh?

  56. theyankeewarrior says:

Sorry if this is a repost. Phil’s command has been dreadful tonight. Nice to see him hitting 91. Not so nice to see him hitting the absolute epicenter of home plate. Or miss his spot by 3 feet.

    • BKLYN says:

For most of his career, this is all i’ve ever seen from Hughes.

Even when he strikes people out, its not cause he hits spots, but because he got away with a meatball cause his fastball had some life. Now that there is no life… he’s really getting spanked and you see his strikeout rate drop to through the floor.

This start is not what I wanted to see from hughes.

  57. jon says:

    hes throwing meatballs

and we were all worried about AJ

  58. Jerome S. says:

yeah, getting out. That’s baseball the right way.

Ugh. This seems like a recent narrative; I wanna kill it.

  59. Jake Jarmel says:

That’s the way you play baseball, folks. Great groundout by Jones.

  60. nedro says:

    beauty catch grandy

  61. IRF says:

    The Grandyman!!!

  62. Xstar7 says:

    Hughes is garbage so far.

  63. Jerome S. says:

Hmmm… well, Hughes is better. Let’s leave it at that.

  64. YankeesJunkie says:

Hughes has zero command of his fastball and considering it is 90 it will not fool many hitters.

  65. Jake Jarmel says:

This should be Phil’s last inning. We can’t afford to fall even further behind which we will because Hughes is getting very lucky. Colon can take us home.

  66. Mykey says:

Well, Phil needs some batting help tonight. Let’s hope we don’t make another nobody look like Cy Young.

  67. Cy Pettitte says:

bunting is a great part of Brett’s game? errr…

  68. Greg says:

    Perfect pitch. This kid’s good

  69. Mykey says:

Gardner is the ultimate window shopper. No thanks, I’m just looking.

  70. Jake Jarmel says:

I think we have the worst 1-2 hitters in baseball. Gardner always let strike 3 go by.

  71. BigBlueAL says:

Well, at least I was right that it the answer was an old-school manager. Just didnt think it was that old-school lol.

  72. Dice-Klay says:

    Holy Cow!

That ball almost made it outta the infield.

    Way to go Jetes.

  73. bonestock94 says:

Looked like a vintage jeter hit minus 30 feet

  74. BKLYN says:

I don’t remember seeing Jeter hit a fly ball or line drive in a while…

  75. Xstar7 says:

Gardner looking at another third strike. I know it was a changeup but it was right down the middle.

  76. YankeesJunkie says:

Jeter can’t hit out of the IF to save his life.

  77. MikeD says:

    Perfect game so far.

  78. BigBlueAL says:

Still only the 5th inning obviously but its sure looking like one of those games Yankees arent destined to win.

  79. Greg says:

    Lookie there Small ball

  80. BKLYN says:

    Nice… now he’s throwing 86

  81. oldmanalex says:

over the monster suggests that boston should give old buddy Pedro “Whos my Daddy?” Martinez a call as an alternative to Dice-K. thoughts?

    • Mike Axisa says:

That’s probably a bad idea. Pedro was done in the 2009 WS and he hasn’t pitched since. He could probably survive on smarts against bad teams, but that’s not a guy you want to run out there every five days in the AL East.

    • JobaWockeeZ says:

Definitely. It’s nearly impossible to be worse. I don’t think Hughes is at that point yet.

It’s the NL sure and in 7 starts but Pedro had like a 8 K/9 and a 2 BB/9. Ain’t entirely done yet.

Of course I want the Yanks to get more shit to stick on the wall so let’s hope the Sox don’t get him.

    • Kit says:

I suggest they do, just to see how hilariously that would end.

  82. BigBlueAL says:

Zimmerman perfect game/no-hitter/shutout all gone thanks to Carlos Ruiz.

  83. Mykey says:

Helping or hurting Russell? Helping or hurting?

  84. YankeesJunkie says:

This game is going downhill fast.

  85. Monteroisdinero says:

Martin is too short to make that throw over a lefty batter. Don’t do that again Russ. Wait for a righty batter.

  86. BigBlueAL says:

Hughes looking like Rick Vaughn in Major League 2.

  87. bonestock94 says:

    SWISHER!! Really!?!? Awesome

  88. Monteroisdinero says:

    Swish impresses!

  89. Jake Jarmel says:

One hell of a catch by Swish but Hughes needs to be taken out of this ballgame immediately or we’ll soon be down 6-0.

  90. BKLYN says:

Been a while since i’ve seen a groundball out.

  91. Jerome S. says:

    ok hughes. time to gtfo.

  92. BigBlueAL says:

Watching Hughes right now is depressing.

  93. nedro says:

    aaaand, there you go.

  94. bonestock94 says:

Back to BP. Show me the Colon.

  95. Mykey says:

    It’s shower time Phil.

  96. Cy Pettitte says:

Hughes is getting hit hard, Colon please so we have some chance

  97. Jake Jarmel says:

Hughes needs to be taken out right now or we’ll be down 6-0 soon. Send him down to AAA. We can’t keep trotting him out there every 5 days to get shelled.

    • JerseyDutch says:

I’m getting deja vu reading your posts.

    • BKLYN says:

As irrational as you may sound… I some agree. Even if there isn’t an injury, or it isn’t mechanical, this boys confidence is shot. Something needs to be done, he can’t be using in game time to “build” arm strength.

  98. Monteroisdinero says:

    Swish’s arm very average.

  99. IRF says:

Well, I guess this was better than Boston

    /Glass half full’d

  100. YankeesJunkie says:

It is perplexing to see how a healthy pitcher loses 3 mph on his FB. It is fucking ridiculous and Hughes should not be up in the majors until he has his stuff back.

  101. Jake Jarmel says:

Good move by Joe. Hughes just can’t get people out on the major league level anymore. He needs to be in AAA to get his act together. We have a capable major league pitcher in Colon who gives us a better chance to win.

  102. first time lawng time says:

Wow. The Yankees are sooo good. Losing 4-0 to Baltimore and being no-hit through 4. Great performance guys. Hughes? So happy to have him as a number 3. I mean I don’t mind losing every 5 starts. Whatever.

  103. Avi says:

The Yankees are unlikely to make the playoffs if Phil Hughes pitches to a 5.00 or worse ERA. Agree or disagree?

  104. CHING CHANG says:

Best start of the year for Hughes! Yeah!!!

  105. Greg says:

The Yankees really need to acquire more starting pitching prospects. If they do that the next dynasty can begin. I have to say with the ages of Jeter, Posada and Mo that 2009 was the last hurrah for this era

  106. Monteroisdinero says:

Roberts and Markakis easily turning around Phil’s fastball. Tough to watch. I feel bad for Phil who is a really nice guy. Don’t know what the answer is but I’m guessing we’ll find out in Scranton.

  107. Cy Pettitte says:

    What the rotation should be:

    • BKLYN says:

Can we get off the Joba to rotation rants. It aint happening… the yankees will never admit they were wrong by making that move

  108. theyankeewarrior says:

Love Girardi for this move. Phil, wake up or go back to the pen.

    • YankeesJunkie says:

      Part 1 Agree

Part 2: FUCK NO! Velocity drops does not mean you fix it by going to the pen with a 25 year old pitcher!

  109. Dice-Klay says:

Where are all the people who said: “keep Hughes in the rotation – it’s early, don’t panic”???

Time to replace Hughes in the rotation. He’s missing his spots and he’s lost his fastball.

  110. Xstar7 says:

    Bartolo Time!

  111. Kipper the Dog says:

Thank god they pulled Hughes. Terrible.

  112. jon says:

if colon has a good game hes starting next time around

  113. Cy Pettitte says:

    Cy Colon’s fastballs are filthy

  114. jon says:

no way would gardner have made that

  115. Cy Pettitte says:

    that was Manny-like ARod

  116. Yankeefan34 says:

    WTF Alex?

  117. bonestock94 says:

Man, this is a really distressing development with Phil. Deadarm, new mechanics, phantom DL stints, whatever…..nobody bargained for this shit.

  118. first time lawng time says:

What was A-Rod thinking? Looked like a lack of effort.

  119. Kipper the Dog says:

Hughes to DL and Noesi to rotation. Couldn’t be worse.

  120. Monteroisdinero says:

Jeets with the all out dive to keep the ball in the infield. Pathetic.

  121. David says:

I hope the Yankees come back, but if we’re still down in a couple innings I’d like to see Noesi pitch and see what he can do.

  122. Ben says:

I know the first two innings produced decent results, but I really don’t think there was much of an improvement tonight. Might just be time to send Hughes down and have him work through his issues in a place where he’s not hurting the big league team.

    • Kipper the Dog says:

Agreed. All the long pop-ups, Swish and Grandy saved XBHs plus he looks like a bad version of Chad Gaudin.

  123. Craig says:

“Are you saying boo or Huuugh-Errrns?” I was saying Hugh-errrrrns……..

  124. Dave says:

Hughes needs to get to AAA to figure this shit out, if only so he can do it out of the spotlight where every little move is “OMGZ His career is over!!11!!1!”

  125. IRF says:

Alright, here we go. Six solo homers in a row.

  126. jorge brosada says:

Once again Hughes did not show us anything tonight. He’s lucky he didnt get tagged for more runs. This is definitely a problem

  127. JerseyDutch says:

Did I wander onto a Mets board?

  128. Jake Jarmel says:

Girardi and Cashman need to do something. Hughes should be sent down to AAA and Colon in the rotation. Something needs to be done with the lineup, in particular the 1-2 hitters. What good are Teix, A-Rod, and Cano without runners on base? I’m sick of people saying, they’ll figure it out. No they won’t.

  129. Cy Pettitte says:

    holy shit, a hit!

  130. Sheepmeister says:

Do you know how many aces spent a year or two in the big leagues alternating between success and mediocrity until they were top 10-20 in baseball. Lester, Greinke, Sabathia, the list goes on.
Hughes had a breakout year last year, there is tape on him. Yea, his stuff isn’t all there, but keep in mind, he went way above his previous high in IP last year. Yea, he may not be a #2 or #3 this year, but if it takes one year of mediocrity or being below average to keep developing and then come back to be an ace, I would take it every day and twice on sundays. How about instead of being so impatient and talking about sending him to the minors where he would just dominate every start, we let him develop through some adversity. This way we can develop a homegrown ace, which everyone complains about not doing, instead of trading him.

    • IRF says:

I don’t know if you can call Hughes’ season a breakout. It was his first season as a competent major league starter, but he was far from an ace. Sabathia actually steadily improved every year until breaking out in 06. Its concerning because most of us have seen a lot of Hughes, but he only has half a season as an “ace” to his credit. You like to see your young pitchers make some sort of improvement, not turn into a pumpkin

  131. Kit says:

Alright, Robbie and Alex. Rally time, guys.

  132. Robbie loves him some Oriole pitching.

  133. YankeesJunkie says:

A-Rod continues on his monstrous tear. He is untouchable.

  134. JerseyDutch says:

    A-Rod and Robbie. Nice.

  135. JobaWockeeZ says:

So Robbie and Alex are essentially our only consistent offense.

  136. YankeesJunkie says:

Time to for the offense to engage.

  137. Xstar7 says:

People are bitching about A-Rod cutting off Gardners throw, but I doubt it would have really beat Markakis. Good job breaking up the No-No by the way A-Rod.

  138. Monteroisdinero says:

Terrible ab by Swish. No excuses.

  139. first time lawng time says:

Rotation until Hughes gets his head out of his ass:
    1. CC
    2. AJ
    4. Colon
    5. Garcia

p.s. Swisher is pretty shitty on offense lately lol

  140. William says:

do u think boston would have resigned jeter for as much money or even signed him back at all. All the stats show jeter is def regressing and what were seeing right now with jeter not being able to hit the ball out of the infield something needs to be done.

  141. Kit says:

Gross. Please don’t do that again, YES.

    • nedro says:

What, with the J. Palmer underwear ad? I think that’s hilarious. That hair! That chin!

      • Kit says:

It’s terrible. Do not want to see that. Also, I think Al Leiter is the more handsome of the two. Palmer looks like a bear mated with a human.

  142. Ben says:

Arrieta really has been quite fortunate tonight. Lots of hittable pitches that the Yankees have just missed squaring up. Unfortunately they’re running out of time for that good fortune to turn around.

  143. YankeesJunkie says:

Is there any way the Yankees take disguise so A-Rod and Cano continually have at bats.

  144. bonestock94 says:

O’s announcers wanted strike 3 loooooooooool

  145. first time lawng time says:

lol we should trade a package of Jeter, Gardner, and Hughes for Longoria, Price, Damon. Move A-Rod to short where he belongs and get Joba’s fat ass in the rotation.

  146. first time lawng time says:

Lol take away last night’s game, everyoe in our line up minus Cano and Alex are .000.

  147. first time lawng time says:

I’ll bet Colon likes cheese burgers.

  148. first time lawng time says:

TIme to skyrocket Rangers ERAs. Douchebags.

  149. Cy Pettitte says:

When Colon comes out from the bullpen, he should run through the outfield wall like the Kool-aid guy and the announcer should yell “ohhhhhhh YEAH”

it would be like his “enter sandman”

  150. JobaWockeeZ says:

The scout who suggested Colon needs to be paid more.

  151. nedro says:

Colon doing a good job being Hughes’ pooper-scooper

  152. Cy Pettitte says:

the movement on his fastball in unreal

  153. Colon’s two seamer = JIMP.

  154. toad says:

    Colon proves the theory:

    Fat guys are great pitchers.

  155. first time lawng time says:

We should do that thing where, like, the offense whose names aren’t Cano or A-Rod get hits. And they round home. And we tie the score. And then Gardner does that thing where he swings the bat and hits the ball. And Jeter does that thing he did yesterday where the ball left the infield and he got on base.

OMG it’s all like coming to me now!

  156. AndrewYF says:

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but Bartolo Colon needs to replace Hughes in the rotation. The Red Sox were kind enough to give the Yankees a head start on the season, let’s not squander it by throwing out a Carlos Silva clone without the control out there.

  157. Monteroisdinero says:

Folks-we are 6-4 and tied for first and the Sox are 2-9 not 9-2. Bartolo can replace Phil. The bats will come around. We’ll be fine

  158. nedro says:

    Russell has Muscle!
    Monsieur Martin… est la!

  159. Cy Pettitte says:

Now would be a nice time for Brett and Jeter to get their weekly hits

  160. first time lawng time says:

Gardner has a stupid mouth. And head. He looks better bald. (of course that’s like saying toaster electrecution is more pleasant than lightning).

I don’t like him. Let’s trade him for the Holliday character. He does outfield, right?

  161. nedro says:

sorry, got carried away. those are lame Sterling HR calls.

  162. jon says:

YankeesWFAN RT @JimmyTraina: Maybe the Mets abused Phil Hughes’ arm.

  163. first time lawng time says:

Lol. Jeter plays a sport for a living.

He doesn’t have a real job. What a loser. lol

  164. first time lawng time says:

BTW, those glasses Martin is (are?) wearing are totally feminine.

  165. JobaWockeeZ says:

Gardner needs to save the GIDP twice now. Please run. Or Jeter bunt.

  166. Mike Myers says:

    Thanks roberts. dummy

  167. john titor says:

    jeter grounded into a DP.

  168. first time lawng time says:

    Jeter’s 0 fer-ever. SCRUB

  169. bonestock94 says:

SPLAT SPLAT SPLAT on first time lawng time’s face!

  170. Gardner and Jeter BOTH just reached base?

  171. Total Dominication says:

    Thank you Jeter.

  172. nedro says:

    Wow!!!! Jeter singled…. AGAIN!!!

  173. first time lawng time says:

Great. THe dinosaur man is up. Mr. 3-21.

  174. YankeesJunkie says:

At this point I begging to see Jeter hit off the ground, even though he got a hit, but still! Nice job, Derek.

  175. JerseyDutch says:

Time to find that home run stroke again, Teix.

  176. first time lawng time says:

This team looks lifeless. We need to get some steroids up in here. BRING ON THE HOMERUNS!

  177. Mike Myers says:

Ill take it…..a hit is a hit right?

  178. Total Dominication says:

    Yesss! A-rod and Cano time!

  179. Kit says:

Good job, boys. Let’s get it going.

  180. Cy Pettitte says:

bloop double! the baseball gods are on our side tonight

  181. bonestock94 says:

  182. Teh Comp Pick says:

  183. We will not be trailing for long.

  184. YankeesJunkie says:

    Great job Tex!

    Go get ‘em A-Rod.

  185. first time lawng time says:

Hey, A-Roid is up. Mr. “I just kida botched a play that led to a run, but not really, because we have no way of knowing if that guy would scored if I threw home, so people should probably just get over it and move on and hey, guess what? I broke up the no-hitter and scored the first run.”

  186. jon says:

    Hughes max speed tonight? 90.9mph

  187. nedro says:

Two whole runs, and not a single homer. “Staccato production”???

  188. first time lawng time says:

    Sac-fly. What a little chump.

  189. Total Dominication says:

  190. BigBlueAL says:

Hoping for an A-bomb but not too bad a result.

  191. Mike Myers says:

Jeter looked really slow running home….he honestly looks hurt. bad back.

  192. bonestock94 says:

Two run game…nobody scary in this pen…yea

  193. YankeesJunkie says:

Even when A-Rod (aka 2011 AL MVP) gets outs he still gets the job done.

  194. Total Dominication says:

I’d walk him if I were them.

  195. BigBlueAL says:

Seriously Robbie?? Get ahead of the count 2-0 for that??

  196. first time lawng time says:

Wow Cano. That’s why you lost the MVP to some ugly/nobody/A-Rod wannabe. Yeah. He’s a no-name.

  197. Mike Myers says:

does anyone actually listen to IMUS?

  198. Dave says:

So, does Robertson get dry humped this game?

  199. Jake Jarmel says:

Colon just comes in and strikes guys out. He deserves a shot in the rotation.

  200. Mike Myers says:

Over under….How many more crappy Hughes starts before they switch Colon for him? 2?

    • nedro says:

Over. Look how long they held on to Meat-Tray. And they’re still trotting Logan out there even though he can’t get a lefty to hit a ball on the ground to save his job… wait, that is his job! Mgmt is stubborn…

  201. Jonathan says:

    I’m late…how did Hughes look?

  202. Mike Myers says:

Or does Colon at least get the start over Freddy?

  203. Dave says:

If Colon was starting, he could possibly be our #2.

  204. Tom says:

I was and am still a Hughes fan but something is 100% wrong. Colon is pitching decent so why not give him a shot to start??? Hell the guy was one of the top 5 pithchers in baseball

  205. Cy Pettitte says:

Colon appears to have lost 3-4mph…that’s not good

  206. Total Dominication says:

Let’s do this. Nice at bat Swish.

  207. Total Dominication says:

  208. Mike Myers says:

swisher should be player of the game for that awesome catch.

  209. Hall and Nokes says:

Kay made the same geographic joke as me!

  210. First time lawng time says:

    Posada sucks lol whatevs

  211. Mike Myers says:

  212. JerseyDutch says:

  213. Total Dominication says:

    How did Swish not score?

  214. Esteban says:

    Ahhhhhh just missed it.

  215. JobaWockeeZ says:

    Thank Mo Martin is up.

  216. First time lawng time says:

Tease…steroids on Grandy = upper deck

    • Stratman9652 says:

If you think this steroids thing is funny… Please stop. Its not. Nobody is laughing and I’m sick of seeing a lame steriods comment every time I refresh this page.

  217. Esteban says:

Did he come off the bag?

  218. JerseyDutch says:

Too bad we can’t play small ball.

  219. YankeesJunkie says:

Hot Damn it is the Grandy Man!

  220. And the bottom of the lineup comes through!

  221. AaronGuileWithASmile says:

AHHHHHH Sterling drives me crazy on those deep fly balls!

  222. Slappy White says:

IT IS HIGH, IT IS FAR, IT IS….long pause…off the wall
    Damn you Sterling

    • Hall and Nokes says:

It was actually worse on tv because of the way it bounced around the glass pane on the wall, looked like it was bouncing around the bullpen

  223. aRX says:

Brett, I swear I’ll forgive you for slaughtering my team avg/obp so far if you hit a game tying single here….

  224. Mike Myers says:

    Gardy walk….grand slam Jeter?

  225. BigBlueAL says:

Safe to say if Jeter was playing SS for the Orioles this game would be tied right now lol.

  226. Total Dominication says:

    Lol Weiters.

  227. Perfect throw to the ump by Wieters.

  228. aRX says:

Brett, I swear I will hate you forever if you K looking here…

  229. JobaWockeeZ says:

I’m going to call the backwards K.

  230. Mike Myers says:

Uhhhh, no need to run to first budski.

  231. JobaWockeeZ says:

Good news. Teix-ARod-Cano is due up.

  232. First time lawng time says:

Wow Gardner you’re an illegitimate majo leaguer…just like Jesus Montero

  233. jorge brosada says:

    Fucking-A Gardner…

  234. Monteroisdinero says:

Hey folks look at the bright side. We’re back in it and Gardy struck out SWINGING!

  235. BigBlueAL says:

Well, with a LHP starting next 2 games at the very least Gardner will be batting 9th again.

  236. Cy Pettitte says:

RAB refuses to load for me on Chrome a lot recently, works ok with Safari. Anyone else having similar problems?

  237. baby elephants says:

who wants to see more andruw jones??????????

  238. AaronGuileWithASmile says:

Gardner’s gotta do something about these strikeouts. Bro’s driving me up the wall.

  239. Total Dominication says:

  240. Stratman9652 says:

Still the prettiest throw in baseball.

  241. Greg Golson's Rocket Arm says:

Jeter going to his left!!! thats never happened before!

  242. Mickey Scheister says:

please bench Gardner now. Andruw Jones and Chavez, both better hitters, were ready on the bench. I’m losing patience with the Grit-less one.

  243. Monteroisdinero says:

Jeets finds a guy he can throw out with the pirouette move.

    Is Vlad faster than Jorge?

  244. Cy Pettitte says:

kind of odd, Colon was 92-94 out of the pen, 88-90 last inning, back to 93 this inning. wonky gun?

  245. JerseyDutch says:

I like Colon. He’s been pretty regular lately.

  246. Dave says:

4 seam vs 2 seam fastball?

  247. Cy Pettitte says:

uhhhh why is Joba throwing? Soriano is the 8th inning guy

  248. bonestock94 says:

    Wouldn’t mind seeing Soriano

  249. Stratman9652 says:

As long as I don’t see Logan up in the pen tonight I’ll be happy.

  250. Pastadivingarod says:

    Pastadiving arod :)

  251. Total Dominication says:

    Put in Joba.

  252. JobaWockeeZ says:

    You deserve this shit Colon.

  253. Pastadivingarod says:

Joba in either lights out or gives up 3 runs

  254. Total Dominication says:

Joba, just let Mark Reynolds do what Mark Reynolds does best.

  255. jon says:

    wow he was totally safe

  256. Mike Myers says:

    Ohhhhhhhhhhh SNAP! I love martin.

  257. Total Dominication says:

    All part of the plan!

  258. baravelli says:

  259. swishers fauxhawk says:

    No way was he out.

  260. Cy Pettitte says:

    holy sh*t!!!!!!!!!!

  261. Whoa. I need to see some replay of this, YES.

  262. bonestock94 says:

Safe as fuck lol, lets see the replay

  263. JerseyDutch says:

    He got him.

  264. Pastadivingarod says:

Joba is too fat to ……..ok

  265. Hummingbird S. says:

good thinking Joba… he never touched the plate

  266. jon says:

    wow I was wrong

joba being fat finally good for something

  267. aRX says:

    Joba, new backup catcher?

  268. Joba can work with Jesus on blocking the plate.

  269. Cy Pettitte says:

    Joba the goalie

  270. Mike Myers says:

    Joba Ankle stomped him…haha

  271. Stratman9652 says:

    Awesome Joba! Great call!

  272. YankeesJunkie says:

  273. JobaWockeeZ says:

Give this ump a raise. Someone that actually has eyes.

    • Hummingbird S. says:

I may be wrong but I think the ump just guessed right on that one.. impossible to see all that happening in live speed

  274. JerseyDutch says:

    Punch it!!!

  275. swishers fauxhawk says:

  276. Esteban says:

  277. Hummingbird S. says:

    Good job Joba!

  278. Pastadivingarod says:

Fat joba hard to get around (sarcasm off)

  279. YankeesJunkie says:

  280. Cy Pettitte says:

Joba fired up throwing 96, god damn

    epic outing

  281. Monteroisdinero says:

The grunt, the fart, the butt block.

    Joba rules!

  282. Tim says:

That was some serious grunting and farting.

  283. bonestock94 says:

    Jeter: Groundout to SS
    Tex: Double
    Arod: Homer

  284. mbonzo says:

    This is how comebacks work.

  285. YankeesJunkie says:

Time for the top of the lineup to do damage.

  286. baravelli says:

    Kick save and a beauty!

  287. Mickey Scheister says:

Nicely done Joba! Have two pitchers ever weighted as much as Joba and Colon come into a game back to back in the history of the game?

Nice call ump! I thought he was safe!

  288. Pastadivingarod says:

Hughes needs to grunt and fart more

  289. JerseyDutch says:

  290. William says:

jeters furthest ball hit all year?

  291. Monteroisdinero says:

    14M leads off.
    23M up second
    27M up 3rd.

    We got this.

  292. Pastadivingarod says:

Holy shit jeter murdered that pitch out of the infield

  293. YankeesJunkie says:

A fly ball out! What a novelty.

  294. JobaWockeeZ says:

    Time for the clutch Rod…

  295. JerseyDutch says:

Tie game. A-Rod homer. Calling it.

  296. Jerome S. says:

a-rod smashes the bat against the plate when he comes up… god.

  297. All right Robbie. Hit a moon shot here.

  298. Cy Pettitte says:

please let Cano hit again Johnson

  299. aRX says:

    2 run jack?

  300. jorge brosada says:

Girardi has to pinch Jones for Gardner if he gets the chance…

  301. aRX says:

    ok…3 run jack?

  302. JerseyDutch says:

    A-Rod and Robbie again.

  303. Cy Pettitte says:

If there was a time to get your first HR of the season Nick….

  304. JobaWockeeZ says:

Ugh I’ll calling the swinging K but please no.

  305. mbonzo says:

Swisher does not look good in this bat so far… I can’t watch.

  306. Hummingbird S. says:

too many struggling bats coming up in big spots.. hard to win a game that way.

  307. BigBlueAL says:

The 6th spot in the lineup is a big hole right now.

  308. aRX says:

No worries, just sets up the epic walkoff Gardner triple. Yes.

  309. JobaWockeeZ says:

We need ARod or Cano to be in every plate appearance.

  310. Mickey Scheister says:

DAMNIT!!! Missed opportunities, 3 offensive outs left to make some noise! I swear if it comes down to the game on the line with Gardner up and they don’t pinch hit for him, I will lose it. He sucks something awful, right now.

  311. Monteroisdinero says:

Joba-let that hair grow into a ponytail. He is in Mitre country now.

  312. Cy Pettitte says:

Twins lose to the Rays in 10
Nathan blows it, Capps takes the loss and Krazy Kyle gets the save…lol

  313. Who gets the big hit this inning, Granderson or Martin?

  314. bonestock94 says:

I always get excited when Cesar Izturis comes up to bat cause that’s what the sawks top prospect is gonna be

  315. Cy Pettitte says:

you sit your ass down Boone Logan

  316. Jake Jarmel says:

Under no circumstances should Brett Gardner be batting in the 9th inning. He should have been moved to 9th in the order long ago. Put Grandy at #1 and see what he does.

  317. mbonzo says:

    Joba at 98!?!?!

  318. jorge brosada says:

    Joba looks fantastic

  319. mbonzo says:

Hughes to the 7th! Joba to the rotation!

  320. Rey22 says:

Grandy HR ties the game. Called it.

  321. Rey22 says:

Wow, Kevin Gregg is 6’6. For some reason I had him like at 6’2 or something.

  322. JerseyDutch says:

  323. mbonzo says:

  324. aRX says:

o.0 HELL YEAH (I refuse to say hip hip…)

  325. jdp says:

I thought O’Hara was the closer

  326. bonestock94 says:

  327. Cy Pettitte says:

  328. Kit says:

  329. Kevin G. says:

  330. swishers fauxhawk says:

  331. Pastadivingarod says:

    Yup posada is done. Bahaha

  332. Rey22 says:

    HIP HIP!!!

  333. JerseyDutch says:

So Jorge’s philosophy this year is home runs or nothing, I guess.

  334. Esteban says:

If Posada’s only gonna hit homeruns, then by all means, hit them in the bottom of the 9th

  335. Teh Comp Pick says:

  336. Alex S says:

  337. Martin set up to be the hero…

  338. jiffy says:

And i almost said something about how he has been sucking it up as a DH

  339. Francis says:

Chris Sabo is pitching guys, we got this.

  340. Monteroisdinero says:

    gardner wins this game!

  341. Xstar7 says:

I wish someone not named A-Rod or Cano could come up with a hit in a big spot. But at least we have the bottom of our order up in the ninth….

  342. YankeesJunkie says:

  343. Reggie C. says:

    Get the pies ready!!

  344. Esteban says:

This lineup is never out of the game.

  345. TMiller says:

Posada says “alright guys, let’s quit dickin around!!”

  346. BigBlueAL says:

I take back all the bad stuff Ive said about the 6-7-8 spots in the lineup!! lol

  347. Avi says:

    I love baseball!!

  348. JobaWockeeZ says:

Don’t bunt for Martin. If anyone it should be Jeter or Gardner…

  349. aRX says:

Ok, that was not a good bunt.

  350. swishers fauxhawk says:

    Home run, double.

    Perfect time to bunt!

  351. Mike Axisa says:

  352. BigBlueAL says:

    DONT BUNT!!!

  353. YankeesJunkie says:

    Let’s go Yanks.

  354. William says:

    NO BUNTING!!!!!!!!!

  355. Fake the bunt, hit the walkoff.

  356. jorge brosada says:

HIP HIP BITCHES. Don’t fuck up this bunt martin…

  357. Total Dominication says:

Does he know who’s up after him?

  358. BigBlueAL says:

    Pinch-hit Chavez for Gardner??

  359. aRX says:

On a semi related note, I am soooooooooooooooooooooooo fucking glad I didn’t draft Gregg this year.

  360. Cy Pettitte says:

Russell…Y U NO SWING THE BAT?

  361. Esteban says:

    WHY BUNT?????????!!!!!!!!!!

  362. mbonzo says:

Walk off single from Gardner, I’m feeling his bad babip is over.

  363. TMiller says:

anyone else hate the sac bunt? especially with a guy who probably NEVER bunts?

  364. Pastadivingarod says:

    Martin ready to get pie

  365. Warren says:

    bunting WHY???

  366. aRX says:

Doh. Ok Brett, a walkoff will wash away a lot of your struggles this year…please…

  367. Monteroisdinero says:

Now we know martin can’t bunt. Can anyone?

  368. Cy Pettitte says:

  369. mbonzo says:

    Plant one Gardner!

  370. Mike Axisa says:

Ugh, you gotta pinch hit Chavez here.

  371. jorge brosada says:

Dammit Russell…why the fuck is Gardner still in this game?

  372. jon says:

    gardner and jeter?

o well extra innings it is

  373. baby elephants says:

good job russell. you piece of shit.

  374. Jonathan says:

I understand people being against bunting because the data shows you’re more likely to have a big inning without bunting…but when you need just 1 run to win the game is it really more likely that one of martin/gardner/jeter gets a hit or that gardner/jeter can hit a decent fly ball?

    • Esteban says:

You’re right, but the way Gardner and Jeter are hitting change the equation. I guess.

    • JobaWockeeZ says:

Looking at it now it’s better not to bunt with Gardner and Jeter right after you.

      • Jonathan says:

if it was moving him to 2nd then I agree. But them struggling only shows how unlikely it would be for them to get a hit and moving him to 3rd gives you a better chance of getting the run in. But in all honesty, the way Gardner is hitting who the fuck knows when he’ll do anything positive.

    • CapitalT says:

You mean Gardner to hit a fly ball because with 2 outs, Jeter hitting a fly would mean nothing

      • Jonathan says:

can’t assume gardner gets out. They might have walked gardner to set up the double play or he could have just walked anyway.

  375. CapitalT says:

Why bunt with a runner in scoring position not to mention Martin is one of 3 guys actually hitting the ball this year (Arod & Cano)

    • Jonathan says:

because then you don’t need a hit to score the winning run…wild pitch/error/flyball/dink groundball/squeeze play etc.

  376. Mister Delaware says:

“Guys, this comeback is going way too fast. We’re not even getting a chance to savor it. How can we slow things down?” – Joe G., Bronx, NY

    • Monteroisdinero says:

by playing free baseball and watching more of our bullpen. Enjoy everybody. We came back from 5-0 in another shitty Phil start. Epic April battle for first place.

  377. aRX says:

omfg….ok fuck it, I’m benching him the rest of the week.

  378. swishers fauxhawk says:

Oh my God was Gardner late on that swing.

  379. Monteroisdinero says:

OK Brett-now even I am getting impatient.

  380. jon says:

jeter is going to strike out just to avoid getting hit with a pie

  381. jorge brosada says:

    Gardner is fucking terrible

  382. JobaWockeeZ says:

Well when jeter gets out we Have Teix, ARod and Cano up.

  383. aRX says:

Did anyone not see that one coming?

  384. Mister Delaware says:

And pulls a pitch in the lefty box. Gorgeous.

  385. mbonzo says:

    “Soft groundball to short”

  386. swishers fauxhawk says:

Good thing we wasted an out attempting to bunt.

  387. JobaWockeeZ says:

Who could have forseen a groundout on one pitch?

  388. Cy Pettitte says:

glad we still have Chavez sitting on the bench

how the fuck do you not pinch hit there?

  389. baby elephants says:

  390. Jake Jarmel says:

We have the worst 1-2 hitters in the league. Those two clowns need to be moved down or benched immediately.

  391. BigBlueAL says:

Pathetic but unfortunately not surprising. Yanks win it in the 10th though.

  392. OldYanksFan says:

Rooting for Jeter to get a big hit is like rooting for a lottery ticket.

  393. jorge brosada says:

That was so poorly executed, stranded a fucking lead-off double. Gardner and Jeter are both so bad

  394. Alex S says:

Why didn’t we just pinch hit Andruw for Gardner?

  395. Esteban says:

I’m shocked! Strikeout and groundball from Gardner and Jeter.
    How about Swisher 1, Cano 2, Teix 3, ARod 4, POsada 5, Granderson 6, Martin 7, Gardner 8, Jeter 9

  396. Big Apple says:

Joe can shove that bunt in his cornhole

  397. Freddy's Mom says:

If Martin had gotten Grandy to third I’m sure Joe’d have PH for Gardy, but with one out it made sense I guess to let him hit with his speed. Whatre you gonna do? You got two key players who can’t get arrested.

  398. Mickey Scheister says:

Okay, I understand leaving Jeter in, he’s Derek F’IN Jeter. WHY LEAVE GARDNER IN WITH A RISP. Hey-Zeus! Bench him for a game or two, shit!

  399. Rob says:

no faith at all in jeter in that situation, sad. as long as mo can hold it i have a lot of faith in tex, arod, and cano

  400. BigBlueAL says:

Just read a tweet that said Martin has 4 sac bunts in over 2700 plate appearances. Must not be in Girardi’s binder.

  401. Simon says:

Girardi’s fault. It was a, “Where were you on that one, dipshit!?!?” moment…

  402. JerseyDutch says:

    GIDP. Nice.

  403. TMiller says:

How could anyone not love Mo. Gives up a single.. gets the perfect DP ball and just watches it happen like “alright.. Jeter, Canooooo and Tex.. Just how I planned it”

    Love watching him play

  404. Cy Pettitte says:

    Mo bein’ Mo

  405. JerseyDutch says:

    In Mo we trust.

  406. MikeD says:

This has got to be our inning here.

  407. YankeesJunkie says:

  408. Mike Myers says:

Time for some pie…..lets do this!

  409. Jake Jarmel says:

Good hitters coming up in the 10th with a walkoff HR looming. Not even Gardner can ruin this night.

  410. JerseyDutch says:

Teix, A-Rod, then Robbie. You have to like our chances.

  411. A-Rod vs. Gonzalez? Game over.

  412. Zooboy says:

“The great Yankees closer Marijuana Marijuana!”

  413. Simon says:

    “I pledge alliegance, under Mo….”

  414. aRX says:

Walkoff jack by ARod, followed by stories in the NYP/NYDN saying “OMG! too many hrs!”

  415. Mike Myers says:

Dustin Mosley has 1ER over 6inn right now….

  416. mbonzo says:

This home plate umpire has been very good so far. I didn’t agree with his strike zone but its been very consistent.

  417. Kevin says:

Arod should bunt here, dont you think girardi?

  418. Dave says:

Hmm….Big towering pop up to second followed by colossal drop by second baseman while tex was running it out and scores? This reminds me of that scenario.

  419. Esteban says:

    This guy A-Rod is something.

  420. Cuso says:

Gardner & Jeter are just God-awful at this point.

Tex is batting lead-off from the 4-hole

  421. JobaWockeeZ says:

I never want to see a lineup without this fucking guy again.

  422. Cy Pettitte says:

    pie for Cano please

  423. Dave says:

Thank god some of our line up works.

  424. mbonzo says:

Arod can hit anything right now. Sweet Jesus he’s incredible to watch.

  425. Adam says:

    Good hold by Thomson…

  426. YankeesJunkie says:

    A-Rod….wow…just wow!

  427. Rey22 says:

Tex – Arod – Cano picking up the slack. End it Robbie!

  428. Adam says:

haha what the Kay…not going to walk him to set up the double play…with no outs?

  429. Total Dominication says:

    Why aren’t they walking him?

  430. Cy Pettitte says:

lol they’re gonna pitch to Robbie? ok.

  431. Mike Axisa says:

Why the hell aren’t they walking Robbie?

    /not complaining

  432. Will says:

I like Kay’s call, TEIXEIRA ROUNDS THIRD, and the camera immediately cuts to him being halfway between second and third.

  433. Kevin says:

    Pinch run for tex?

  434. Guest says:

A-Rod = really, really good at baseball.

  435. Jonathan says:

why are they pitching to cano…

  436. Freddy's Mom says:

Why is Girardi leaving Tex in?!

  437. Avi says:

why are they not pinch running for Tex?

  438. swishers fauxhawk says:

    Ugh, damnit.

  439. Esteban says:

  440. 3Dale says:

Who else would love a Damon for Gardner trade right now?

  441. Guest says:

    Ohh, that’s unpleasant.

  442. they have to walk swisher, right?

  443. Monteroisdinero says:

Does any team have a decent Loogy anymore? Swish has got to deliver now!!!

  444. Get out the whipped cream, A.J.!

  445. YANKEES WIN!!!

  446. Cy Pettitte says:

  447. swishers fauxhawk says:

    I’ll take it.

  448. JerseyDutch says:

  449. Kit says:

HELL YEAH. Good job, boys. We were down but we weren’t out. Good fucking job.

  450. baby elephants says:

    goodnight. suck it showalter.

  451. Total Dominication says:

  452. AaronGuileWithASmile says:

    Ballgame over! Yankees win!

  453. Dave says:

For having such a “feared” arm, Markakis has sailed a couple throws today

  454. Monteroisdinero says:

    Tes puffin on home.

  455. CapitalT says:

Can you call it a walk off when they had to run?

  456. YankeesJunkie says:

    Game. Set. Match. Swisher returns!

  457. JobaWockeeZ says:

  458. Cy Pettitte says:

    Swisher is hilarious

  459. Dave says:

Hmm…stingy with the pie filling this time. In this economy…

  460. MikeD says:

Man, I thought for sure Markakis would throw our the runner. He’s thrown out faster Yankees from further back.

    Great comeback!

  461. AndrewYF says:

Damn, Showalter looks pretty stupid for not walking Swisher there. Even the great managers make boneheaded moves.

  462. Simon says:

    That pie was soooo…SWISHALICIOUS!

  463. pete says:

    lol. they won.

  464. jorge brosada says:

Thank god we have Tex, Arod and Cano to pick up the slack. First walk off baby!

  465. Teh Comp Pick says:

They’ve gone to a two man BBTN so Berthiume can dome up Schilling without interruption

  466. JerseyDutch says:

The cheese stands alone. Yankees at the top of the AL East.

  467. First time lawng time says:

I hope aJ didn’t cut his hand throwing that pie

  468. aRX says:

So…who had the walkoff sac fly? ;)

  469. Mickey Scheister says:

I need a drink after that game! Good win, nice work by the bullpen, dramatic game tying HR and a walk-off. I still think Gardner needs a couple games off to clear his head but it was a great game, if you remove the Hughes innings.

Effort is measured by results! – M. Addonizio

  470. Monteroisdinero says:

Just proves when your starter, leadoff hitter, and HOF SS are sucking it up-Yanks can still find a way.

Swish gets Pie for a flyout and a game with no hits. Now he goes home to his hottie. It is good to be Swish.

  471. First time lawng time says:

I have never in all my life seen the Yankees come back from down 5

  472. Monteroisdinero says:

So Nunez should have been running for tex and Swish should have been walked to pitch to Posada.

It all worked out for us. Bring on the Rangers.

  473. Guest says:

Jorge, doing his best Dave Kingman impression.

A-Rod, odd-number year…yeah. That one, so far, seems to be holding.

You know, did we all underestimate the impact of a hip injury on a hitter who relies so heavily on hip rotation to generate power? We pointed to no more roids, standard age decline, but could it all have been in the hip?

Because, it seems so far that it was all about the hip injury. It’s early. I could be completely wrong. But I am not just excited about A-Rod for the rest of the year. I’m much more excited for the rest of the contract. It’s still a terrible contract. But given how hard A-rod works, given how hard he works at staying in shape, and given how much of his “struggles” the last three years now appear to be due to the hip, I think there’s a fair shot that he performs WAY better over the next seven years than we all presumed.

Here’s hoping I’m right and not just wearing rose colored glasses.

    • Dice-Klay says:

the lanky 6 foot 7 inch Kong was something to see in person.

he had sooooooo much leverage, he would barely swing and yet crush the ball.

  474. Adam says:

Seriously, I can’t imagine how annoying many people would be if the Yanks weren’t, say, at 7-4 and in first place…

    • Dice-Klay says:

      you can’t?

It’s pretty easy, the stadium booed Torre off the field during a 7-game losing streak in 2007. The very same stadium chanted “bring torre back” in 2008 when Girardi went through a dry spell.

They don’t call it the “Bronx Zoo” for nothing. This is a town were a bad review closes a multi-million dollar Broadway production after a single bad performance.

  475. MikeD says:

Wooha, ManBan, Dellin and Gary Sanchez all on the DL today? That’s three of our top-four rated prospects. Jesus, take care.

I knew about the first two, but why was Sanchez DL’d?
