Game 16: A-Rod’s back
ByAfter two games and three days off, Alex Rodriguez returns to the lineup tonight after dealing with some minor back/oblique stiffness. I’m actually surprised, I figured they’d give him the extra day off with the scheduled off day coming tomorrow just to be completely sure he’s healthy, but hey, I’m not complaining. The Yankees could use the offensive help to back Bartolo Colon, who is making his first big league start in like, two years. Here’s your starting lineup…
Derek Jeter, SS
Nick Swisher, RF
Mark Teixeira, 1B
Alex Rodriguez, 3B
Robinson Cano, 2B
Andruw Jones, LF
Jorge Posada, DH
Russell Martin, C
Curtis Granderson, CF
Bartolo Colon, SP
After a brief visit to My9, the Yankees are back on YES tonight. David Cone and Ken Singleton will have the call when this one starts a little after 7pm ET. Enjoy.

Years from now, when my young son is in his teens and he has his first real stinging taste of adversity and defeat, perhaps when he is cut from his high school football team or has the girl (or boy) that he asks to the prom reject him or doesn’t get into the college of his choice, and he feels like nothing good in the world exists and he’s the unluckiest young man in the world, I’ll pull him aside and tell him that he is, in fact, a lucky man, and the proof is he was at least lucky that he was born in May 2010 and not in May 2011, because that means he was alive for at least one full year when Mike Lupica did not have a talk radio program on the NYC airwaves.
I used to like Lupica.
Then I got older.
I don’t know which idea sounds like more of a disastrophe: listening to what Mike Lupica thinks every day for an hour on the radio, or a sitcom based on the life of Colin Cowherd.
I’d watch Cowherd’s sitcom for at least a couple of episodes. Then I’d get turned off. I can only take him in small doses.
I can’t find any reason to listen to Lupica anymore.
Yeah, I guess the benefit there is you’re not actually subjected to Colin Cowherd, just to an actor miming what Colin Cowherd might think/say. So there’s a buffer zone of sorts.
The other option is just raw, unfiltered Lupica, which is of course the worst possible kind of Lupica.
Honestly, who thought this was a good idea? No one likes Lupica.
Not even Lupica likes Lupica
Whatcha talking about? I love the guy.
Cowherd not so much.
Maris still has no home-runs? What a bum. DFA his ass. What’s eh going to amount to?
Damn Jed Lowrie was a damn good pickup for my team. It’s sucks he’s from Boston.
You have violated one of my sacred principles of fantasy baseball.
He’s on my team too. It’s hard out here for a fantasy team owner, yo.
I didn’t do any leagues this year. Taking a year off to reflect on falling just short so many times over the last few years.
But I always avoid Red Sox players. I have the same rule for Cowboys and Eagles players in NFL fantasy.
I’ve actually given up fantasy cold turkey. I was in 5 football leagues and the RAB baseball league last year, and at some point I stopped and realized that it wasn’t giving me any enjoyment anymore, it was just rigamarole that became an annoying thing-to-do. (Whether my teams were good or bad.)
Not insulting anyone who still does it, of course; I’m just personally over it.
TSJCakaRUtE:
You have, obviously, made the wise and mature choice.
Unfortunately, many of us haven’t yet reached your level of maturity. Maybe next year. Then again, maybe not. Ok, probably not.
Co-sign. It was tough, but I did it. And he’s been a Mo send.
I also wanted to trade for Youkilis, but my wife (a newly converted and intense (like Saul of Tarsus) Yankee fan) forbade me. To her, Youkilis was on my fantasy team was an aggression that could not stand.
I, like all wise husbands, acquiesced.
Your wife sounds awesome.
She is. She most certainly is.
I know I felt awful doing it but it’s a money league and Furcal shot himself.
And at least Lowrie doesn’t rock the douchebag facial hair.
He looks like a wolf.
A gritty wolf
Nice. I made the exact same swap. Yeah, I gotta say that in the context of my fantasy team I am happy with Lowrie.
I dropped him last week because he wasn’t getting any playing time…
A 10-0 win today would be very satisfying.
You selfish bastard. You’ll take your nailbiting 4-3 win with sloppy defensive play, frustrating at bats, and poor pitch execution and like it, you ingrate.
And overworked bullpen too, right?
Naturally.
Yes, sir. I feel like a selfish tool.
Watchin the pregame, damn Curtis Granderson is the man!
The lineup out there tonight is our best and should be our everyday lineup. At some point Joe will have to face facts and limit Gardner to pinch running and defensive duties and switch Grandy and Jeter in the lineup. And the best part is no Hughes to put us into a 6-0 hole.
And the best part is no Hughes to put us into a 6-0 hole.
Colon is certainly capable of doing that.
At least it is not a guarantee.
Joe has to move Grandy to lead off and Jeter to 9th any day now. Grandy’s just too good and Jeter’s too bad to leave it as it is.
#smallpicture
They are easier to carry around and show to friends and family.
Wait a sec…
my second laugh-out-loud of the thread
gonna be a good night
Take my wife, please!
I read your comments backwards and they made more sense.
Turn me on, dead man.
So if Colon and Garcia continue to surprise everyone like they have, who goes to the pen when Hughes comes back?
Probably Colon. His endurance is still a question mark.
It’s probably a dead heat between Colon and Nova. Whomever shows more ability to handle the third turn through the lineup between now and then gets to remain in the rotation; the loser becomes the longman.
I agree, however, I can’t see Colon being on a higher than 75-80 pitch count tonight.
Didn’t even think about Nova, you are probably right.
He really needs to start finding a way to go deeper into ballgames or he’s going to lose his spot to one of the many in-house alternative pieces of spaghetti we have yet to throw against the wall.
He did get a couple of outs last night…
too soon?
loser gets DFA’d or traded…
I want new problems tomorrow, let’s keep it fresh.
Hughes to the 5th!
/jk’d
Is it me or does Jeter always check his swing on the worst pitches?
I will give credit for Jeter for actually getting elevation on the ball lately.
He’s trying to get high, it’s 4/20 today.
http://instantrimshot.com/classic/?sound=rimshot
Teix! good start to this game, with Cecil I was expecting them to get no hit or something
Good to see him going the opposite way more.
TWSS
Yikes.
This response cracked me.
Up.
Me likey the oppo power from Teix
I can haz abomb?
Nice oppo field hit for Tex.
WTF Ken. I haven’t heard him once say “Look Out!”
I’m disappointed with him.
When’s that postponed orioles game?
Ribbie for Robbie.
Since he doesn’t like to be called “Robbie”, you should say “a Ribinson for Robinson”.
nice
That was a huuuuuuuge cut.
Absolutely. Jeter appears to swing at everything up and bearing in on him. Facing Jason Frasor last night he got to 2-2 without ever being thrown a strike.
Lame.
Arods .543 wOBA is looking nice so far.
Is there any place that gives constant updates on wOBA, but yeah that is A-Rod being A-Rod.
You can do it yourself,
((0.72 x NIBB) + (0.75 x HBP) + (0.90 x 1B) + (0.92 x RBOE) + (1.24 x 2B) + (1.56 x 3B) + (1.95 x HR) / PA
Yeah, I know, but I am too lazy to do it my self (pun intended)
RISP fail.
Doomed!
We obviously should have pinch hit Gardner for Jones there. We could have broken the game open.
Gardner can steal home while at bat…
Let’s go Bartolo!
Damn Jones, Grit wouldn’t of went down swinging.
Watch out Snider might get pissed and try to snap Colon in half.
I wanna see that.
Trying to break Bartolo Colon over your knee would probably result in a broken knee.
Snapping Colon = automatic MVP.
Colon keys to the game: “scrap-head special” lol
heap*
This Colon has guts
& sh!t
McCroskey: And I can sum it all up in just one word: courage, dedication, daring, pride, pluck, spirit, grit, mettle, and G-U-T-S, *guts*. Why, Ted Striker’s got more guts in his little finger than most of us have in our large intestine, INCLUDING THE COLON!
Oh. And Mike. About your “Dear Yankees: How about ten first inning runs? I’d like to watch the (NY) Rangers at some point. Love Mike.” tweet, I wanted to retweet this to you, but, I don’t know how to use Twitter yet. So yea. Here’s what Bryan Hoch said:
“According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the #Yankees are the only MLB team that has not scored as many as four runs in an inning this season.”
We’re due for a breakout inning soon, right?
We’re due for a breakout inning soon, right?
Krusty’s Accountant: Let me get this straight. You took all the money you made franchising your name and bet it *against* the Harlem Globetrotters?
Krusty the Clown: [miserable] Oh, I thought the Generals were due!
[watches the game on TV]
Krusty the Clown: He’s spinning the ball on his finger! Just take it! Take it!
Bautista’s steroid-enhanced muscles bark at little children like wild dogs…
oh my god, Colon trying to cover…..lol
I thought that one was gone.
“His glove is still gold.”
Oh my goodness, Jones still “glides” on defense…but it’s like watching a glacier glide down a mountain. It’ll get there…eventually…
I feel like all of the UConn pictures are there just to bait me.
*Sees deep fly ball to left*
*Oh no Garnder’s not playing*
*Oh wait, Thames is not the 4th OFer anymore*
*Exhales*
See?
He has value.
oh Jorge
Dammit Jorge, stop striking out…
THE Coltrane
man thats some shit, Russ hit that so hard that it kept him at first
longest.single.ever
Yeah RussMart.
#Cured
Suck it, Cecil.
The Grandy Man!
da grandyman! gonna be a monster year for him
The Grandyman! Also lol @ Bautista
Lol’d at the “Raton” in Bautista’s scouting report.
Two Yankees on my fantasy team (and the only Yankees)doing the job!
The Yanks scored without a home run!
Incredible!
Joe has to move Grandy to lead off and Jeter to 9th any day now. Grandy’s just too good and Jeter’s too bad to leave it as it is.
Says you.
Mmmmmm… burned my tongue.
There is no Yankee who is more fun to watch when he is hot than Grandy.
He’s so exciting.
Too much small ball, more HRs please.
LOL. You beat me to it.
No more small ball! Hit home runs!
Lets bury the bluebirds!
http://instantrimshot.com/inde.....iceiswrong
Colon looks off tonight
Actually, I think we should consider ourselves lucky he’s even pitching.
Those relief outings were flukes, IMO.
Silly Bartolo…
“LOOOOK OUT!”
Ok, now I’m happy.
And… Arencibia’s on my bench tonight.
I have Posada and Arencibia, and I always seem to play the wrong one…
Gardner would have gotten that!
Snider REALLY hates his bats, huh?
They need hats.
hats for bats…jobu says fuck you, and I do too.
Nasty pitch by Colon.
Gorgeous pitch.
So the word is Arencibia can’t stick at C very long right?
nasty
Colon was not built for HD
How about 3D?
I dont want his gut flying onto my couch. Or his fat sweat raining on me.
Agreed. It’d be scary.
Just wait for smellovision. Joba’s grunting and farting will be a little too vivid.
Casino Rama? Terrible name for a casino.
The girls from Bananrama own a casino?
Not bad for a couple of middle aged ladies

A-Rod 2011: March to a .500 OBP.
A-Rod’s weighted OB is very heavy l0lz
Wow, A-Rod’s patience so far this season has been ridiculous.
Wow definitely safe.
k nevermind
Arod looked WAY safe to me.
He looked in, IMO.
One of the problems A-Rod had last year is he expanded the strike zone, so good to see he seems to have corrected.
And he looked safe.
I’m thinking the base stealing thing isn’t our bag.
why the hell would he run?
Nice walk by A-Rod. You can see that Cecil does not want to pitch to A-Rod.
he was safe as hell!
Oooh maybe just got him? Tough to tell. Kill the ump.
What is up with all of these perfect throws whenever we try to steal? Ridiculous…
He was safe.
INSTANT REPLAY!!!
It was a tie and tie goes to the runner. A-Rod just showed young Brett Gardner how to steal a bag.
A-Rod just showed young Brett Gardner how to steal a bag.
I’m going to go out on a limb and say you’re not fond of Brett Gardner.
I never agreed with this. If its a tie, the tie should go to the defense.
http://sports-law.blogspot.com.....myths.html
I’ve always wondered (on a play at first) when the firstbaseman is considered to have actually caught the ball. Is it when it is completely within the confines of the glove, when it touches the glove or when he controls it in the glove?
There is no such thing as a tie. Unfortunately, to the naked eye…
Gentlemen’s agreement: If the ball beats you to the base, you’re out.
Jim Joyce rule of baseball #45?
Haha, not watching, so I didn’t know it was Joyce who made the call.
He certainly violated this rule on one high profile occassion. Bet he wish he followed the ball beats you to the bag you’re out rule with Galarraga’s perfect game that wasn’t.
It seems that every throw to second base this year on a Yankee SB attempt has been pretty much perfect.
Good point. That’s not likely to continue. It’s just tough with so many great hitters in this lineup to give away outs.
He was safe but that looked like a tough angle for Joyce.
Joyce still hasnt figured out the whole ball before/after the runner thing
When they bring instant replay to baseball, I want them to change the name from instant replay to Jim Joyceing.
“Well the umps are gonna have to go to the Jim Joyce on this one.”
how is he allowed to keep his job? If i was a architect and built the biggest piece of shit building ever, no one would hire me again.
The perfect game thing was terrible, but other than that, apparently he’s been one of MLB’s better umps. I think last year the players rated him #1 among MLB umpires.
Because he’s actually one of the better ump’s out there. All umpires make mistakes, his was just high-profile.
Chasing DiMaggio.
My favorite Kevin Smith movie.
Hahahahahahahahahahahaha holy bartender, I get it, that’s a GREAT one!
Jones is never going to hit Cecil’s offspeed stuff
Kim Jones?
She prefers a fastball up the middle.
http://instantrimshot.com/
Kim Jones: bottom line, everyone was impressed with everyone
Cone and Singleton are about as comfortable playing the straight, play by play man talking to the sideline reporter, as Michael Kay is trying to eat soup.
Nasty changeup from Colon.
Colon’s k’s look nasty
Cervelli at DH is like milking a pregnant hamster.
Colon looks incredible. Send Nova down.
Good inning by Colon. Now if he can keep that pitch count down…
“Yank’s Colon Filthy After 2″
Dirty Headlines FTW
haha … good one
Is colon our second best pitcher?
No way. Kei Igawa is.
Nick Swisher still hasn’t allowed a run EVER
fun trivia game….He had the best ERA 2 years ago on the yankees….
Colon daaaaaaaaaaaamn that was filthy
After three Colon looks really good.
It’s nice not to be down 6-0 after 3 innings for a change. The best thing would be for Hughes to regain his arm strength and Nova to be sent down. Colon is going to work out just fine as a starter.
You’re entertaining.
The best thing would be for every Yankee pitcher to suddenly start pitching like Pedro in 2000.
Thanks for the update.
… not gonna touch that one.
LOOK OUT!!!!
Kenny made up for not saying it last night by saying it twice today
Trivia has to be Delgado, no?
Missed it. What was the Q?
Trivia Question:
What yankee pitchers in recent years have been named after a body part
Bartolo Colon?
Chien-Ming Wang?
Randy Johnson?
Steve Taint?
A-Rod.
At least, that’s what I call it.
Can’t think of anyone else?
Ugly AB there from grandy
WHERE ARE YOU FANBOYS NOW???
You must have come in last place at the Annual International Hater’s Ball. That’s some low-quality hate there. Step your game up, son.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v.....re=related
I thought it was pretty good. (Dave Chappelle use your own discretion)
Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go put some water in Buck Nasty’s mama’s dish.
Star Trek convention?
In a glass case of emotion?
I forgot who we are supposed to be fanboys for again?
You have moved from annoying to hilarious. Keep up the good work.
Great game so far from Bartolo
Who is this fat guy on the mound?
Joba?
/obligatory
/unnecessary
More runs, please.
i’m following on gamecast. is colon pitching as well as the game i’m picturing in my mind?
Let me look into your mind…AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
it’s like staring into the sun!
/CharlieSheen’d
wow, he looked a little shaky at first but not that he settled down Colon is rollin’, only 53 pitches through 4 is nice too.
Wow, Vlad.
Damn the O’s are hot
MLB TV on PS3 has been quite shaky which is unusual.
Not for me. I´m back watching the games on my PC, as much as I love the PS3 app, the stuttering was killing me.
It was the exact opposite for me last year.
And on my PS3 I always had like a 3-4 minute delay. Is it the same for you? The upside was not having to plug the PC to the TV…but the sloppyness only got worse
McDonald had way more time than he thought.
Blue Jays can’t touch Yankees’ Colon!
Dirty Headline #2
Is Colon still considered stretched out or is he going to be quite limited?
I would be surprised if he went past 75-80, 90 max.
“Is Colon still considered stretched out”
Im sure TSJC will be here momentarilly.
I’m afraid if I say anything, daddy will call me a Colon fanboy.
Teix got pissed.
Get these runs in anyway possible.
Would not be surprised to A-Rod get his third walk of the day.
Good job ARod. Any way possible
For his next trick, A-Rod will hit a ball clean through Jim Joyce.
Alex’s baseball instincts are awesome
The way that A-Rod is hitting this year, I find it doubtful that his BB% will be under 10% and his SLG under .550.
Meh, he’ll go through a shitty streak eventually. But even then, his rate stats are looking to be pretty good.
Whatevs, just a sac fly RBI that was scorched.
A-Rod has 3 PA’s, 0 AB’s and a RBI.
Damn.
2 outs, 2 runs with the lead already is not a bad thing.
Enough of this small ball.
/Andruw Jones
More home runs damnit!!!
No HRs yet tonight, I am disappointed.
As am I – I have Teix and Martin on my fantasy team.
The Fugitive warming up in the pen for the Jays
Andruw Jones has looked pretty terrible today, at least he’s working the count a little bit
ESPN NY headline tomorrow: Yankees score 5 without a HR, power woes foreshadowing a long losing streak and no playoffs this year?
WallyMatt’s already 400 words into that shit as we speak. It’s under control.
I think we have to remember that Wally makes his money of all the page views from angry Yankee fans.
Page views by any means necessary.
To quote the Simpsons, if we want Wally to go away, “Just don’t look. Just don’t look.”
New narrative: Yankees rely too much on the sac fly to score runs.
“Yanks only have warning track power, will struggle to score.”
MLB tv is the best. 20 dollars is completely worth it. Weaver v Harrison LFG
$20?
Per month.
What plan are you on? I want it.
Nah, they’ll hit a homer tonight.
Breaks down to 20 dollars a month.
Colon throwing 94.
Bartolo K-lon.
Wow, Bartolo is on a roll. I did not expect him to pitch this well at all
“Wow, Bartolo is
ona roll”.Fixed.
#fatjoke
oh man that was just unfair, that thing was flapping around like a butterfly in the wind
The very words Cameron Diaz said to A-Rod during their first night together.
Colon unleashes the gas.
Hes en fuego
For all the trash talked about his physique, Colon sure is killing it tonight.
The Fugitive is on the mound
he didn’t kill his wife!!!
So Cashman’s “terrible offseason” is looking pretty friggin good right now. More shit is sticking to the wall than anyone thought possible.
I’m already looking at ticket prices to attend Carlos Silva’s perfect game this July.
I’m still not convinced I didn’t somehow go back in time to 2003
Well, his name is Colon….
I’m so happy Colon is a Yankee. I had felt such a void in my life after Wang being non-tendered and Josh Dezse going back to school.
Skim job? Hmmmm.
Way to stick a toe out Jorge.
“My balls started to move, my pinkie was crooked.”
-David Cone
This is why we all wanted Cone back in the booth.
Wait, has Colon really retired 12 straight?
He’s been spotless since the Arencibia homer.
Yeah, apparently CY Colon hopped up out the DeLorean tonight. Who knew?
C-Grand putting good swings on it tonight.
Wow, Colon is blowing them out
Wow, they keep whiffing some Colon
Wow, Colon is shi…
too far.
It would be nice to see a little old-school Jeter right about now.
Wah wah
I know. Sad trombone time.
SHUT UP YOU FANBOY
/daddy’d
The whole fanboy thing confuses me.
It confuses all of us, friend.
Jim Joyce actually no longer has the authority to make any calls. Thats why it got reversed so quickly
reply fail
Jeter’d
JETER.
Well theres your regular Derek Jeter GIDP. I’m not complaining though with the way Colon is throwing
I mean is anybody really surprised by that result? It s become a given now
Is there anyone better at hitting into double plays than Jeter??? MLB best!!
Ivan Rodriguez is pretty top of the line, IMO.
Is there anyone better at hitting into double plays than Jeter???
Pudge?
http://www.baseball-reference......reer.shtml
Proof that polls don’t mean much.
Wow, Martin stole that strike.
Ok, this is getting pretty surreal. It’s almost like he is engaging in performance art. Reality just can’t be this predictable. But with Captain Jetes, it actually seems like reality is, in fact, this predictable.
Maybe John and Susan have been lying to us all along…
Darn you Jeter.
not saying he will continue to ops 500, but how bad would it have to get before jeter bats 8th or 9th?
Would this scenario save or lose the Yankees runs:
A-Rod at SS
Jeter at 3B
eh?
/Polishes turd
8 years ago? It would have saved runs. If we switched them today? Probably loses runs.
Two years ago? I would have agreed with you. If we switched them today? I’m not so sure anymore.
A-Rod has been moving much better at third this season. Jeter has turned into a statute at SS. A-Rod is still so much bigger than Jetes and nearly as old, so I imagine that Jetes still has the Edge (DYSWIDT?) at SS.
But its really close.
Quick go to the Jim Joyce.
good call
Robbie to the rescue.
it would really help if joyce was watching the game, he almost jim joyced us again
Great play, Robbie. Shut up, Escobar.
acting like he didnt get tagged. what douche
It’s the way the game is played. It was the right baseball move. Give him credit.
/Bobby V’d
“acting like he didnt get tagged. what a
douchea savvy competitor.”Fixed.
Trying to take advantage of an ump’s potential mistake is always a good move.
He could go all 9 at the rate he’s pitching
69 pitches in six innings. Colon looks untouchable
So apparently, colon has a BMI of 37. Thats using his listed weight. Is Bartolo Colon the first baseball player to be morbidly obese?
Is Bartolo Colon the first baseball player to be morbidly obese?
You’ve obviously never seen the Milwaukee Brewers play. Ever.
Or the later stages of Babe Ruth’s career
Ohhhh right. Now that would be a fun matchup.
This. I just watched them this week and thought to myself how out-of-shape most of them look.
Prince Fielder’s daddy wasn’t exactly a Men’s Health cover model when he was with the Yanks either.
Actually, I think one of the best things about baseball is that a fat SOB that can throw hard or swing a bat well can still compete at a high level.
hahahaha wow thats insane
I think BMI is supposedly flawed, but no…I don’t think he is the first. There have been some really heavy baseball players.
Mo Vaughn, Cecil Fielder?
Both Vaughn and Cecil would merely be “obese” using their listed weight
Ok, thanks. I was curious.
Smokey Burgess.
Mickey Lolich.
Wow 3rd double for Teix tonight, awesome
moar doubles
Tex with the triple double.
/IceCube’d
his mamma cooked a breakfast with no hog
Buster Olney tweeted that Colon has “unaged 5 or 6 years”
Olney may have misremembered.
Is that legal?
wat
The AL West this year is some exciting baseball. Predictions? I see the Angels taking it this year.
Depends on what happens to Brandon Webb.
If we lose this game, it’s Robbie’s fault.
I’ll blame Gardner.
It’s comfortable, like your favorite broken-in recliner sofa.
Tony looking smug, as he should be
Let’s give Levine’s job to Tony Pena.
Hmm, Bartolo’s stuff looks to be fading a little bit. Might want to take him out after this inning.
Last batter here
82nd pitch at 94mph? damn, impressive
Today’s D-Rob Dry Hump is brought to you by Yoo-Hoo.
Ump squeezed Colon a bit
I hate it when that happens.
Colon in slow-mo…yikes.
He’s 37, 60 pounds overweight, but he can still hit 94. Meanwhile, our 24-year-old righthanded pitcher is still searching for his fastball.
I have been told that baseball is a game that cannot be predicted.
…which is one of the many things I love about the game.
Was Girardi speaking to the infielders on that mound visit or was ARod translating?
Colon: “put my hot pocket in the microwave and get it started please”
lol dumb Blue Jays
FAIL!
Lolz Arencibia.
Hahahahahahaha, thanks for the free out Arencibia.
Big ovation for Colon.
Now pitching for the Yankees, Scott Proctor.
If that was Snider then what would he smash?
Love that Teixeira ran the ball to 3rd himself to make the tag and didn’t make an unnecessary throw
“But, but, but, in kickball in gym class we could have two men on a base!”
Dear Bullpen,
My doctor told me that I should avoid unnecessary stress. Please get seven outs quickly.
Thanks,
JD
The Hammer!
Mr. Robertson, you’ve just been Proctor’d.
2 strike, 2 out hit. So annoying
Has Jeter always been this terrible at SS, or do I just notice because he can’t hit .330 anymore?
I imagine this is what most of the Rawlings Gold Glove Award voters are thinking to themselves now.
The missing .330 part is contributing, but he’s also just about 37, so his range, never a strength, is declining.
Okay, I can get John McDonald out (not really), so let’s end this inning.
Finish him!
Great move by Girardi to take Colon out and equally great move not to put Joba in — whether they win the game or not. It’s a marathon, not a sprint. If he doesn’t protect Colon and his bullpen arms better, as Joe and Mike have said, he can win some battles and lose the war as Joe Torre was so fond of doing.
First of all Go Yanks.
Second, My bro and I got into an argument today about who was the better baseball player Mantle or Dimaggio? I said Mantle and we googled differant opinions where Mantle won by a landslide so you thoughts?
Third and final question, would you give up Gardner(based off last year, this year defiantly) Austin Romine, 3 MM and a lower level prospect for Colby Rasmus?
Make that trade in a heartbeat.
I would. I don’t know if the Cardinals would.
They’d laugh.
B.) Mantle. Convincingly.
C.) We’d all do that deal in a heartbeat, which is why St. Louis would never ever ever ever agree to it. Rasmus is a legit major league everyday starter; Gardner is a possible major league everyday starter and Romine is a possible possible possible major league everyday starter.
Gardner + Romine + cash isn’t remotely enough for Rasmus, who isn’t even arb eligible yet. The Cards wouldn’t just hang up, they’d be insulted and wouldn’t return your calls for a week.
just wondering… (b) based on what?
The Yankees would do the deal, but the Cardinals would hang up the phone.
Mantle. The only way DiMaggio could approach Mantle would be on the defensive side. Even when people like Bill James look at DiMaggio’s defensive numbers, they all agree he was a top-flight defender, very rangy, but there’s no way to really quantify how much range. I suppose if he was in the Andruw Jones area, coupled with his offense, then an argument could be made, but short of that, it’s Mantle.
If I had a time machine I’d go back watch…hell…just even listen to Mantle hit the ball.
KKKKK-ROB
That’s fine, I’ll take a 2 strike hit and a K from Robertson. Good work.
Problem now is that its another close game
The different between a three and four run lead in the eight inning is pretty small.
But knowing Girardi and his roles…
I blame JerseyDutch for having the audacity to ask for an easy 10-0 win. All this shit is his fault.
What a jerk.
I’m going to punish myself by only having three beers tonight.
I respect your humble penitence.
I almost knew Knix was going to hit his fastball after I saw DRob only throwing his CB. Nice last strike out but I dont get why he wasn’t mixing in his FB more. Looked like he didn’t have confidence in it.
D-Rob had some real nice stuff that last inning, it would be awesome to see him out there for the eight. However, I’d rather see the Yanks score a few runs and may get Noesi a couple innings.
Even with no tack-on runs, I’d love to see Noesi here in the 8th. A three run lead and starting a clean inning is a pretty decent low-leverage situation to break the kid’s cherry.
I think Jeter’s always been terrible at SS (except for 2009, I think it was), but not THIS terrible.
Let’s see if Girardi figures out that he has to spread the bullpen workload or not — no matter what the apparent implications may be for the outcome of this game.
Yeah, because one thing we know about Girardi is that he loves to overwork his bullpen.
where is the 8th inning guy?
Nice to see D-Rob for a second inning.
Meh, I wanted the fresh fish.
Whatevs, though.
Wait, don’t we have a guy for the 8th inning?
(or does he resort to “It’s the eighth inning in a non-blowout game. Time for Soriano.”?)
D-Rob is dealing.
K-Rob sittin these fools down
Is Robertson the new Proctor?
Wow that ball was smoked
at least DRob is ambidextrous, so when his right arm falls off he can go down to the minors and start working on throwing with his left arm
Bautista is approaching Pedroia-like levels of annoyance.
Oh noes!
Boone Logan?
http://instantrimshot.com/inde.....helmscream
I’m so excited to see Boone Logan
Weaver has the nastiest change up its scary.
Tim Lincecum has something to say about that.
so does Phil Hughes….oh…that’s right…its his fastball.
BADDA BING!
Yay! Got my HR fix.
lol Granderson > your CFer
A bullpen-saving home run.
amen to that…
the grandyman CAN!
Do people still want Austin Jackson in CF? I think he’s hitting .150.
but hes so cheap!!
And Phil Coke!
The Grandy Man can!
Curtis Granderson in just ballin’ this year.
#Cured x2
As Grandy continues to mash the ball and Jeter continues to hit into DPs I don’t know how Girardi can justify hitting Jeter lead off and Grandy 9th. That has to be changed soon.
Jeter is going to have to volunteer himself for it. That’s the only way I can see it happening
It needs to happen, but I don’t think it will unless Jeter goes to Girardi and requests it…which probably won’t happen.
Fuck you, Brian Cashman!
Compare it to Willie Mays with the Mets
Grandy’s career OBP is .340 (.324 last year). Jeter posted a .340 OBP in a terrible 2010 season. Grandy definitely has more power, but the number one thing you want from a leadoff guy is OBP, since he gets the most PAs. Jeter is not the best option to leadoff anymore, but Grandy isn’t the answer either.
the grandyman can!
a Jeterian 0-5
does jeter retire if hes hitting 200 by the all star break?
Not until he gets 3000 hits
Would you quit your $17m a year job because you sucked at it for the last 3 months?
Perhaps, if I already made over $200 million plus endorsements and my skills have diminished too much.
Also, it’s 3 months + last season.
Who knows how Jeter values money though.
only if Girardi catches him sleeping in the locker room.
/Junior Griffey’d
Time to press the panic button on Jeter…..looks like we’ve got a $45 million albatross on our hands
Alright, for real now. Wtf do they do about Jeter? They cannot keep batting him leadoff. And Gardner isn’t taking that job either.
You and Mocha Joe aren’t roommates by any chance, are you?
Girardi will keep writing his name on that scorecard until he gets #3,000. After that, it will get interesting. Staying in first place will help his cause….the moment the Yanks fade, the Jeter critics will get much louder.
Yeah, that 3000 hit milestone will change the dynamics.
Of all of our players’, Grandy’s homerun swing is my favorite. His seems so smooth and fluid. I look Canos too, especially when he does that little thing where he drops the bat, but Grandys swing seems like the perfect swing. IDK.
IMO, cano..its just so damn quick and fluid. but grandy is right there. lefties always look like they have the perfect swing.
A-Rod’s. It’s so massive.
Love the Yankees Suck chant by the Toronto fans
It’s just not the same without the drunken, racist hatred of Fenway.
Yeah, this chant was so lackluster-
Just like Canada
Garcia > CC, AJ, Hughes
Colon > CC, AJ, Hughes
Clean pants > Poopy Pants
I don’t know why CC is in the second group, but with the early results, you’re not wrong.
THIS ONE IS………foul.
Right on
/Sterling’d
If you guys were in Jeters position right now, would you ask to be lowered in the lineup? Be honest.
I’d ask for a paper bag to put over my head
Derek Jeter doesn’t believe Derek Jeter has a problem
Has Derek Jeter been hanging out with Karl Malone? Karl Malone don’t like it when people make fun of older athletes like Karl Malone.
/Kimmel’d
That would be a cop-out. No athlete as proud as Jeter with such a polished resume would or should ever do that. The move to lower him in the line-up or start benching him will come from Girardi. As I said in an earlier comment, you won’t hear a whisper of this from the Yankee brass until after he hits #3,000.
No.
No, because the Yanks are still in first place and I can ground out in the bottom of the order just the same as I can leading off. I’m old, it takes awhile to get into a groove, see Mark Texeira’s career numbers in April.
Girardi is doing his best to Proctorize Lance Pendleton.
/
tonight, everyone in the BP must warm up
It is chilly up in Toronto
For some reason I read that in an angry German accent.
TunIIte, evryvone in ze buwllPEN mUst varm op!
wouldn’t mind seeing Noesi here. The guy’s supposedly a legit MLB prospect – not a great prospect, but damn
80% of the time leadoff walks score everytime…
When has warming up in the bullpen become an injury hazard? Every team’s bullpen does it
I know espn gamecast isn’t the most accurate, but it looks like Pendleton is getting squeezed.
MLB Gameday showed that ball one pitch to be literally right down the middle.
Travis Snider’s MLB pic is pure Red Neck.
I want to see a snider double play and watch him rage throw his helmet.
or not…
Or rip it in half.
Ruh-roh.
Wow, I thought for sure they’d score at least one on that.
Thanks Ken, I’ll just assume Soriano is coming in.
Girardi tried to bring David Robertson in again, but was told that was a rule violation.
Dont say that Girardi did not try to avoid Soriano
Let’s not let the worse player on the team beat us two days in a row.
There is no worst player on this team. We’re the Yankees!
if Soriano can’t get Nix/McDonald I give up
Ugh can we please not get life into these losers please?
I hate Toronto. They killed us last year.
Wow. He is all over the place.
Who is this Jo-Kim Soria of which Kenny speaks?
I think Rafy did it on purpose. Oh and someone to tell tall dark and frustrating to keep his shirt tucked in, pretend you LIKE the uniform at least while you’re on the field or you can be shipped to the Astros toolbag.
Squeeze!
Well, this is just a fine how-you-do.
John McDonald with another suicide squeeze.
I can’t go through another bullpen meltdown. Just finish the goddam game Soriano.
Time for a DP.
Cant blame Girardi for this one if we lose
I’m sure someone will find a way.
Rafy, you piss me off.
Huge out.
Just one more out.
::heart starts beating again::
Lol remember when Cervelli dropped the pop up?
And when he was trying to catch a pop up but tripped on the bat?
Yeah. I really do not miss that (him).
Pendelton didn’t earn any brownie points by putting the first two runners on.
Nice job finishing the game for Soriano after a rough start.
Bartolo Colon has 1 more win than CC.
And that is how we start our negotiations with CC when he opts out.
Super. Girardi chooses winning the battle and losing the war. Remember games like this when Soriano is ineffective late in the season and in the postseason or winds up getting hurt.
And since this is the fourth day in five that he’s pitched, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he’s not effective anyway.
Meh. He gave Mo the day off, which is much more important.
How is one set of games in April affect October? That is a lot of extrapolating.
Granderson speaks well (although he does ramble sometimes). He seems like a nice guy though. Friendly, classy. Hard to find something bad to say about him
he’s not a pimple on Ellsbury’s ass though…that injun can flat out play!
I want a Bartolo jersey…an exact replica….I can use it as a car cover. and I drive a big SUV.
Bigger jersey? CC or Colon or Yankee infield?
who is pitching the first game against the orioles
CC
What happened in the 8th when Swish took 2nd was that a SB?
Just saw Colon’s interview in the post game show. The man is a tub of lard. But he’s our tub of lard. God bless Colon for his 6.2 inning effort. That’s a hell of a lot more than what Hughes and Nova has given.
