Yankees bring the tying run to the plate in the next 9th.
(For the nostalgia)
Jeter ground ball in bot of eighth & ground meat on the pop up in ninth. He needs to get his head out of his butt.
Good thing the Yankees are facing a team on the skids. Otherwise this game could be really depressing. #easywinsagainstlosingteams
o lets do it!
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
Oh let’s do it. Run scoring music.
We cant lose this game. Not with the Red Sox creeping up from behind
You’re going to drive yourself completely insane if you’re paying attention to the Red Sox on April 25th.
I dont care. I never want to be behind those F’ers
#nonzenbaseball
Why? I hate them. They’ve become smug
I love seeing the Sox in last place too, but Mike’s point (that I agree with) is that you can’t get too worked up about the Sox remaining in the race all year long. The season is long and the Sox have talented players. Don’t focus on the standings too much in April, just hope we’re still better than them in September.
I just dont want to hear about them constantly from ESPN
The only way for that to happen is for either ESPN or the city of Boston to be struck by a massive meteor and obliterated.
Therefore, I suggest you embrace the zen.
He has a point, you know.
Not really.
If he hates a team, he obviously wants to be ahead of that team as much as possible. How does he not have a point?
According to RAB, it’s April – where the games don’t count.
Don’t you know that only games in September count?
Greg is a bottom.
What the hell does that mean?
Glib comment buddy, nothing malicious meant by it…never want to be behind the sox, ergo they must be behind you.
Retracted. Onward.
Whatever it is you’re attempting to say here, please don’t.
Jeez. You of all people should know my tongue doesn’t leave my cheek.
It was simply a comment aimed at positioning.
Retracted on all counts.
Gotcha. That could have ended very badly, that’s all.
Can we cease with the inappropriate name-calling?
The other day, I took a shit on the neighbor’s dog, am I already past the point of no return?
I have a feeling Jeter is going to crack a double. Wishful thinking baby OH YEAAAAAA
back-to-back doubles by Gardner and Jeets!!
Humber or Hughes? how about humbled?
Well they got Humber out of the game at least. Won’t do anything next inning. Only chance is in the 9th with Grandy, Teix, A-Rod, Cano. It would be a damn shame to let AJ’s gem go to waste.
Lost in getting shat on by a replacement level starter, AJ’s having a great night, maybe the best start from a Yankee so far this season. It was really Granderson going for the dive rather than keeping the play infront of him that cost him the run.
Agree. It seemed to me that he didn’t have a chance to actually catch that ball.
Everyone except A-Rod has given up.
Yes. The entire offense has given up, and you can definitely tell by the results. I guess we should just pack it in now. Afterall it is only a 7 inning game.
/don’t ever say anything bad about this team ever!
Do you even know who you’re making fun of anymore?
Yes. There are commenters here who make a big deal about it if you ever say something about how a team has no effort/ has given up, etc.
Saying they’ve “given up” is stupid, you deserve to be called out on it.
Wow. Pretty sure Xstar just said, and I quote, “everyone except A-Rod has given up.”
why don’t you call her/him out on it?
Calm down man. I deserve to be called out too. It was a dumb comment.
TaIT’ss just annoying that there’s a double standard on this site.
/Rose’d
What does that mean? You’re not denying it?
No. I am denying there’s a double standard. There’s one standard: dumb shit gets criticized, no matter who says it.
If you think you’re constantly getting criticized, you should try saying less dumb shit. You’re not being singled out or persecuted; you’re always getting ragged on because you always say dumb shit.
Like Rose. Your persecution complex is false; you just get persecuted a lot because you keep committing persecutable offenses.
Yeah because your sarcasm is so intelligent. There’s a reason why people make fun of you. But you don’t care, so good for you.
@First time lawng time
You need to think about your comments before you make them. Baseball is a game, and this website is just for fun, so you need to start treating things that way and stop taking everything so seriously.
And saying that Swisher’s facial expressions in the midst of a potential no-hitter are unacceptable and that he’s worthy of your scorn is also stupid and you deserved to be called out on that as well, FTLT.
I wasn’t scorning him, I was just saying it looked stupid to look like he’s having fun when his team is losing and being no hit.
But I said something negative, so we have to make a big deal out of it.
The Yankees haven’t really given up, they just didn’t bring their A-game today. Such is the case when you almost get no-hit by Phil Humber.
You know it’s bad when he is the only one trying.
Looks like we’re gona have our first shut out against.
How cute!
Gardner will tie this game with a homerun.
Then Jeter will win it with one.
Since AJ has been with the team, Jeter hasn’t gotten a walk-off hit.
#JeterHatesAJ
#StartingANewRumor
Who do you think gave him the black eye?
(I take it back. It probably wasn’t Jeter. He can’t hit that hard)
/Yes this is sarcasm’d
maybe if it were batting practice. in live action, Gardner is about the whiff, not the hit.
It’s gonna be ARod.
first spillover of the year?
These flyballs are scary.
Joba warming up. The effects of a 3yr 45 million contract.
Don’t bring in Joba. Bring in DRob.
get 2 runs, get AJ the win
you don’t let AJ go for the CG…right?…
Cannot waste this pitching performance.
What a great outing, AJ. I’m really proud of you. Please replicate that to some degree in the remaining months of the season. Now let’s score some runs, offense.
AJ pitched his heart out tonight and unfortunately will have nothing to show for it unless Posada, Jeter, and Gardner can do something for once this season.
Six home runs is nothing?
Btw, can you do me a favor and return some jumper cables for me?
Didn’t AJ have an exact outing like this last year in KC. I think he gave up one run and some shit pitcher shut us out. Let’s hope the yanks can find a way to win.
posted it in the last thread, lol
http://espn.go.com/mlb/boxscore?gameId=300815107
Thanks. So it was another former #1 draft pick, yet Bullington was the #1 pick of the entire draft. Bullington finished the season with a 6.12 ERA and is now out of MLB, pitching in Japan. Welcome to your future, Humber.
And I think the shit pitcher was also a former #1 draft pick who really hadn’t amounted to much, just like Humber. Who was that?
Brian Bullington.
Yanks were being no hit. 8th inning guy is absent. 7th inning guy may be the 9th inning guy, 9th inning guy is not available….. and Posada is up to bat…. #worldupsidedown.
Jeter disease continues.
Wow, Sale has really skinny arms.
His uniform looks like it barely fits.
PH Chavez
Who plays the outfield then?
Nunie, lol
Was Jones officially announced?
God, Jorge just sucks. We’re what, 20 games into the season? Plenty of time to work your kinks out. He is pathetic. I have a considerable amount of faith in Gardner compared to Jorge.
Yeah let’s throw the guy with the long track record under the bus.
The guy with the “long track record” hasn’t shown much in the last two years and 95% of his hits this year are home runs. Also, notice his trends the past three years and tell me he isn’t on a steep decline.
Hopefully Jones can manage to get on base so Jeter can make his automatic out this inning. That will leave a clean slate for the only good hitters we have left in this lineup, Grandy, Teix, A-Rod, Cano.
Look, kids: Big Ben, Parliament.
How due is jeter for a hr??
Chavez, so clutch
Good. Now Jeter can make his out and not next inning when we actually have a chance to score.
Please don’t hit a weak grounder to 2nd…PLEASE….
I should’ve been more specific.
How much more ineffective does Posada have to become before he is benched? Chavez has a much quicker bat and can at least hit strikes instead of just mistakes.
Yikes, thought he was out.
thank god nunez..
Nice try running off the field with the ball, Ramirez.
maybe Gardner will take notes
Is Gardner suddenly a bad base-stealer? When did this happen?
He’s not a bad basestealer but he lacks elite instincts. He’ll be a solid 30 SB guy but I doubt he’ll be a 70 SB guy like Ellsbury or Crawford.
Gardner should learn form Nunez and learn to steal on the first pitch
Not even close.
fucking Jeter
This was an extremely odd situation, Nice steal from Nunez. Who the fuck is going to play LF next inning? And Jeter doing his thing. Two years ago he would have gotten the GW hit.
Four more years of this frickin’ guy.
Only three. They’ll come to an agreement on the 4th year. He’ll retire and last year will become a personal-services deal that will save the Yankees luxury tax. Unfortunately, there’s still the next three years.
CLUTCH
Hey Jeter, aren’t you glad you’re earning something ‘fair’?
That’s ok, guys. Jeter made hit out and now we have the real hitters coming up in the 9th with no outs.
Jesus has got to be called up before June.
If only he could play shortstop.
Yet you just bagged me for knocking Jorge. Hypocrite.
I don’t know what world has Jesus being called up = Jorge sucking but okay.
Jeter, your god damn terrible. Make some good contact please
There’s our boy.
Oh well, onto the 9th.
Guy is done.
PH Sabathia for Jeter
i Love Jeter, but good lord what the eff is up with all these weak as grounders!!!
He’s old, spiraling fast downwards, and it’s going to be especially painful to watch him exercise his player option in 2014.
But you already knew that.
Jeter is awful. Captain or not, he’s killing us.
Pie??? Yes, I would love some pie tonight.
WE’re like the early ninety Celtics with aged stars.
Fun fact:
The Yankees have 8 former first round picks on their team.
Derek 1-3ter
Good fans. “frickin guy”, “CLUTCH”, “fucking Jeter”
Yes, we should keep rooting for the Yankees to keep one of the worst hitting players on the team in the leadoff spot. That’s what good fans do.
So criticizing a player that’s consistently performed poorly for the past year is a bad fan?
At least this ensures A-Rod gets an AB, there is no one else I rather up with the game on the line
I can’t even defend Jeter anymore.
Kay, what is your definition of “fairly proficient”?
Ummm, hold on. Where did Andruw Jones go? Why is Nunez one of our OFers?
At least we don’t start the 9th with an automatic out.
I saw “Eduardo Nunez, first MLB appearance…” underneath video of Soriano on the mound and somehow my mind freaked out that Nunez was pitching. Took me a second.
fucking Jeter pt. 2
What. Just. Happened.
Derek Jeter is an awful baseball player. Wow. That happened quickyl.
2009 seems like a dream.
That one was on Soriano, it was two feet behind the mound. That’s the pitcher’s ball.
And? Jeter was running toward it then just… stopped. Why not keep going forward?
Solid offense AND defense. 20 million for 4 years.
Not really sure that was Jeter’s fault.
WHAT. THE. FUCK.
Is it okay to ask if they were trying or caring on that one?
Don’t have a melt-down, Soriano. Focus.
Fucking annoying…watch Soriano implode now…
3 groundouts for Jeter today. Jeez. Soon to be 75% GB%
enter huge inning here
I wish people would stop saying “It’s only one time through the order… It’s only 6 innings…” This is 20 games now of shit by Gardner, Jeter, Swisher, and Posada. And nothing happens to these guys. We have Chavez and Jones on the bench. We can move Jeter down in the lineup but Girardi has his guys and no changes can ever be made. Cashman has to do something.
It’s only 1 game.
Actually it’s 20 games. In reference to the ineptitude by the guys mentioned.
Well, I tend not to get too wrapped up in individual performances, especially when the team is winning.
So, it’s one game where the offense came up empty. THE WHOLE OFFENSE.
Look, kids: Big Ben, Parliament.
love it
Yeah, yeah, yeah. We’ve seen you paste this before.
You seriously need to relax.
Banuelos and Montero for Milton Bradley! Pull the trigger!ARRRGGGHHH!
Two feet off the mound. What the fuck Soriano?
So Jeter running hard off the bat and can’t make it since Soriano let it go makes him a bad fielder. So its Jeter’s fault and not Soriano???
To some around here, Derek Jeter is history’s greatest monster
That really wasn’t anyone’s fault. Soriano is falling off the mound away from the ball, and pitchers aren’t supposed to ever catch infield popups. Well placed, it happens.
he can’t be troubled to step back and make the play?
99% of the time you’ll never see a pitcher go behind the mound to catch a pop up. it was just perfectly placed
At what point in the season do you start pinch-hitting for Jeter in important game situations?
like I said, if Nunie was still on the bench, PH Sabathia for Jeter
That would never happen. Not even game 7 of the World Series with bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th.
June, maybe.
At the same time Girardi decides Posada is just as ineffective. #nevergoingtohappen
which team is 8-14 again?
The White Sox.
#beinghelpful
I can’t see the game. How does “Alexei Ramirez singles on a pop up to Derek Jeter?”
short pop up that landed behind the mound just on the grass. soriano thought it was a routine pop and walked forward, pointing up. the ball did pop up far enough, though, for any infielder to get there and catch it.
thanks. and ugh.
As much as you pull for the guy and love him as a legendary yankee, its becoming difficult to take. Once Derek gets 3k, he should fold his hand and leave on top. Jeter could wear us (fans) out quickly, its painful…
That play was Soriano. The entire infield was back and couldn’t get there in time. You don’t just wait around for someone else to make the play.
Ridiculous, and he points to it like its a mile high….It was barely 10 feet from his head and couldnt catch it. Add to the fact that every time he is out there its like he is thinking about the hot waitress he saw at the restaurant he ate at for lunch and not about baseball….
Robbie, your killing me man. Gotta make those plays. Along with the terrible plate discipline today you’ve been extremely frustrating to watch
Hold onto the ball, next time.
d’oh
ARRRRRRRGGHHHH
Game over
really, i didn’t realize that the home team automatically loses when they are down 2 runs with half and inning to go?
normally they don’t but tonight the Yankees are in that “we can make any team in a funk look like contenders mode”.
The fans are getting ugly.
Well there goes that. Thank you Soriano, you fucking asshole.
Lol yeah, that was his fault. Dropped pop up and a dropped CS.
Pop up was totally on him. That was his ball.
Yeah, no. As Mike said above, pitchers never ever catch their own pop ups. One of those stupid baseball things.
It shouldn’t matter. If there’s a popup and infielders aren’t there to catch it, he should catch it. Not a big deal.
One game, one game i keep telling myself.
Doesnt change the fact that i want to punch something right now
If I could change one contract it wouldn’t be Jeter. A reliever should never make half of what Soriano is making.
At what point do the Steinbrenners fire Randy Levine? Jeter and Soriano’s contracts are on that imbecile, not Cashman.
boo this man
booooooooooooooo
So … we still got the bottom of the ninth to turn a bad yankees newsday around a bit.
This is why you don’t sign relievers to multi-year deals.
Or pitch them four out of five days (unless they’re playing the role of relatively disposable parts as opposed to high end relievers signed to expensive long-term contracts).
Soriano, another case of being a Yankee Killer, but cant Kill as a Yankee
Offense failed to put the ballgame away yesterday and only won when Baltimore threw the ball away and now tonight. Gem by Freddy- nothing to show for it. Gem by AJ – Loss to show for it. I am very concerned right now.
Do you even like the yankees?????????
I am very concerned right now.
:: head explodes ::
Soriano should have had that infield pop up. Of course he gives up a run after something doesnt go his way. The guy folds faster then a fucking 5 dollar beach chair.
maybe that back that kept him out of the game yesterday could be the reason why it fell in. or that a majority of pitchers dont make attempts on pop ups behind the mound.
That missed, where, exactly?
boo this man again
ump = turrible
Nunez threw that like a girl
A girl in a wheelchair
Rios 3 run bomb right here….just to leave NO doubt
Compared to Soriano, ARod is becoming simply loveable.
That was a particularly sexy DP.
Figures we can’t muster up any run support on AJ’s best night.
As much as I feel that we have no chance of coming back 2 runs…we have Alex. The chosen one.
(Holy music in the background)
He’s all we’ve got at this point. Their pen isn’t good so there is hope.
It’s the ninth, time to pass the bayonets!
affixes bayonet to forehead, rhino-style
Grandy and ARod in this inning?
#lasthopes
All right, someone for A-Rod to drive in.
Nice Grandy, but I wish you had taken 2nd there
belly-to-belly FTW
Can we trade granderson’s contract with jeter’s?
PLEASE no GIDP
Wow………
People need to shut up about Soriano and his contract. I bet you weren’t complaining the during the past two games that Mo blew. This game is 100% on the offense.
The irony…
Not really, because I’ve been complaining only about the offense.
And Arod can’t do it all himself guys.
jesus fucking christ
Well…it was nice having hope for a few seconds.
Teix i will end you.
It’s still April. He’s well out-performing his usual.
oh I know. Teix has actually been very good. It’s just that was a un-timely GIDP to cap off an extremely frustrating game to watch
And splat!!!!!
Oh, well. Back tomorrrow to watch another game. Wait, I’ll be on plane tomorrow. Hopefully they’ll be leading when I land.
Trade Teixeira and Jeter and make Jorge Vasquez and Nunez the replacements. Damn scrubs
Sad thing is Nunez can probably match Jeter’s production.
For 14 million less.
Fuck that shit. Offense better come out guns blazing tomorrow…
Wow. From hopeful to crushed.
I’ve got a much easier time with a loss that’s due the the offense.
It’s a clear strength of this team, and the nature of the sport dictates that even your strongest aspects must falter from time to time. Just a little bit of ugly variance.
If the questionable pitching begins to blow games, I’m'a start to worry.
Till then, GG Humber/ChiSox.
Painful game to watch. Hope they do better tomorrow.
everyone on this team should be hit in the head with a bat for wasting 8IP 1ER from AJ
…..Aaaaaaand another great pitching performance by Burnett wasted…terrific
I hate Ozzie Guillen’s face.
There better be another 15-3 games tomorrow.
AJ and Freddie >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Mo, Soriano, CC, Hughes, Nova
Same old shtick eh? Originality is for suckers anyway.
unfortunately, the next three aren’t any easier. Should’ve taken this one. Friggin’ offense…
Well that sucked, and RIP Cano’s hitting streak.
He deserves it. His patience is back to pre-2010 levels. d00d hasn’t seen a single pitch he doesn’t want to hack at.
Glad I wasn’t watching this. Though from scanning over the comments, some of them were highly amusing.
I do believe this is a game PeteAbe would call “embarrassing.”
Did it look like A-Rod was going to get into a shoving match at the end?
These are the type of games where Joe just spews cliches….. Can’t wait for him to pontificate on this “splat”
Hey offense, let’s try to show up tomorrow alright? It’s usually not hard to win games when your SP gives up 1 run. But whatever, we all make blunders.
Good thing we have Nova tomorrow to help us get back on track.
Positives: AJ pitched about as good as you possibly could in a game you lost, and THEY DIDN’T GET NO HIT.
Yay, and that’s a pretty Pyhrric victory. Alas.
Philip Humber is the latest member of the Bryan Bullington All-Stars. Make sure you refer to your list of things that were bound to happen this year and check it off.
Tomorrow’s a new day. Maybe Ivan Nova will even get out of the fifth.
I will say this: The Rafael Soriano era is not going well thus far in all sorts of ways.
If only Randy Levine and Hal Steinbrenner had been warned about the perils of giving multi-year contracts to relievers.
No changes will ever be made to the lineup. It’s the job of Gardner and Jeter to get on base and they aren’t doing it. Swisher and Posada aren’t protecting A-Rod and Cano. Those 4 need to be shuffled. We can move Jeter down and starting playing Jones and Chavez more but Girardi won’t do a damn thing.
Just gonna keep beating that dead horse aren’t you?
http://tinyurl.com/292g5my (SFW)
Awesome.
To lessen the disappointment I will watch Game of Thrones, and see if it is any more unbearable than the game. So far it’s the most overly verbose fan boy bullshit I’ve ever seen. Watching the first twenty minutes I know know how the cliff jumpers in the third inning feel.
Now there’s a midget fucking a bitch, starting to get interesting. Nice ass on this bitch.
Thanks for the PBP.
Now there’s a midget fucking a bitch
———————————-
So Pedoria is in the movie
Is he playing both roles?
I’m happy I went against my instincts and drafted Bautista for 2 of my teams. SSS, but still, things are looking good.
