I didn’t get to post this last night, but the Yankees were well represented in this week’s Prospect Hot Sheet. Jesus Montero and Slade Heathcott ranked as the eighth and ninth hottest prospects in the minors over the last week, while Ramon Flores got some love under the Helium Watch. Montero is certainly no stranger to the Hot Sheet, but this was the first time for Slade and Flores, who have been fantastic in the early going.
Apparently the Yankees signed some teenage Australian outfielder named Adam Silva over the winter. The article describes him as a “strapping lad and hard-working athlete who has made a tremendous impression on scouts and baseball officials over the past few years.” So there’s your scouting report, he’s strapping.
Triple-A Scranton was rained out, though I’m not sure when they’re going to make this one up. Mark Prior will be joining their bullpen tomorrow.
Double-A Trenton was rained out as well. They’re going to play a doubleheader tomorrow. Kevin Millwood gets the ball in game one, Craig Heyer in game two.
High-A Tampa (9-7 loss to Dunedin)
Abe Almonte, CF: 2 for 5, 1 R, 1 K – had been two for his previous 18 (.111)
Carmen Angelini, SS: 2 for 4, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 CS – got a nice little five-game hitting streak going
Kevin Mahoney, 3B & Zoilo Almonte, LF: both 0 for 4 – Mahoney walked, scored a run, committed a fielding error, and whiffed twice … Almonte struck out thrice
Luke Murton, 1B: 0 for 3, 1 R, 2 BB, 1 K
Taylor Grote, RF: 1 for 4, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 K
Kyle Higashioka, C: 1 for 4, 2 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI – he’s struck out just once in 24 trips to the plate this year
DeAngelo Mack, DH: 3 for 3, 1 R, 1 BB – very nice day
Emerson Landoni, 2B: 1 for 4, 1 2B, 2 RBI
Jairo Heredia, RHP: 1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 1-1 GB/FB – not sure if he left due to injury or what, but the Yankees have (or had in the recent past, anyway) some kind of weird rule where they take their pitchers out of the game if they throw 30+ pitches in an inning, so maybe that did him in
Preston Claiborne, RHP: 2.2 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 6-1 GB/FB
Ronny Marte, RHP: 2.1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 4-0 GB/FB
Ryan Flannery, RHP: 2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 2-1 GB/FB
Low-A Charleston (6-2 win over Rome)
Slade Heathcott, CF: 0 for 3, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K – it took nine games, but there’s his first walk of the season
Kelvin Castro, SS: 3 for 4, 3 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI – had three hits in his previous 18 at-bats combined (.167)
Ramon Flores, 1B: 0 for 1, 1 R, 3 BB – nine walks, five strikeouts on the year
J.R. Murphy, C: 2 for 4, 3 RBI, 1 PB – multiple hits in four of his last five games … ten for his last 21 (.476) with two walks and no strikeouts
Rob Segedin, 3B: 0 for 3, 1 BB
Kelvin DeLeon, RF & Jose Mojica, SS: both 0 for 4 – DeLeon whiffed twice and is up 14 strikeouts in nine games
Eduardo Sosa, LF: 0 for 3, 1 BB
Zach Nuding, RHP: 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 4-3 GB/FB – he should pile up the whiffs down here
Mike Gipson, RHP: 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 2-2 GB/FB
Tommy Kahnle, RHP: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, 1-0 GB/FB – ditto Nuding’s comment
