With no DH on tap, Yanks push Garcia back a week
ByAs both teams hit the road after their afternoon contest Thursday, the Yankees and the Twins aren’t going to be making up their rained-out game with a double-header tomorrow. Instead, tonight’s game will remain in limbo until the MLB schedulers can figure out how to get the Twins back into New York for a one-game set likely in September. Meanwhile, the Yanks are using the rainout to skip Freddy Garcia. Instead, A.J. Burnett will start tomorrow, and Garcia will not make his Bronx debut until next Friday’s affair against the Texas Rangers.
Joe will have more analysis on this development for the overnight. I have to think the Yanks will try to get Garcia some work out of the pen. By the time April 15 rolls around, it will have been 17 days since Garcia’s last Spring Training start. But on the flip side, as Cliff Corcoran noted, the Yanks will have played 13 games before needing Garcia’s services.

How do these types of decisions get made? If it means making a September west coast trip more grueling with a playoff spot hanging in the balance, you’d think they would play two tomorrow if they had that choice.
I don’t know the finer points but there are negotiated rules about when teams can and cannot play. It’s too bad they couldn’t get this game in tonight basically.
Benjamin, have you ever thought of making a riveraveblues app?
That would be awesome
We have, but two things:
1. Would people pay for it? Development costs are substantial.
2. What would it do that our touch-device enabled site doesn’t already do?
What would the app even do?
Piss NoMaas off?
it must be developed now?
I’m pretty happy with having RAB as simply touch phone friendly. Before I start effort posting, basically what Ben already said.
2 answers. You have MANY viewers on this blog. People would definately pay for it. Also, I’m talking about putting one on the App Store for Itouches and Iphones. Not everyone is home all the time.
I use the mobile version of the site from my phone all the time. It’s very good. I’m using it right now
The only thing an app could do that this can’t is push notifications, and frankly…I wouldnt pay for just that
. I’d rather just donate the money right to the RABbis.
We’re just not sure there’s enough breaking news to warrant push notifications. Outside of the trade deadline and Winter Meetings, breaking news isn’t that frequent.
What Yankee fan doesn’t want to know if someone is injured, when the game starts, what the score is at the end, breaking news, trades, and there must be something I’m not thinking of. Frankly, this would be a great app for RAB fans.
“there must be something I’m not thinking of”
Yep. The internet.
So basically, you want the ESPN Scorecenter app and the MLBTR app.
Your name: AWESOME.
And… What do you think?
first of all, apps are more convenient and fast. Second, you would pay 15 Bucks to buy MLB at bat 2011. Second thing, River Ave Blues as an app would be noticed and DEFINATELY bought by viewers. There could be so much on this app. Ben?
Same question: Our offerings are going to pale in comparison to MLB At Bat. What would you as a reader and app user want to see from a River Ave. Blues app?
Up above is the answer. Plus, comments, live chat, and of course seeing threads.
That’s an awfully ambitious app. These things aren’t free to develop, and Joe, Mike and I don’t have the expertise to do so. If the interest is truly there, we can consider it.
i have an idea. On a live chat or thread, take a poll. Who would buy a RAB app. That can answer your question
if u make alot of money, it’d be worth it. No? PLUS, if you dont think you’ll make enough, put in some ads too. As you say, “blog advertising is good for you.”
Like your handle.
I would probably buy it for a buck or two. But the only upgrades I can see are push notifications and automatic updates for comments. It could notify you when a new post is made maybe.
Ben, out of curiosity, do you know the breakdown of how much traffic you get on your mobile site?
Mobile users — including iPad — made up about 16 percent of total site visits over the last month.
So…
And RAB app users will make more definately.
Ben, will you bring this up to Mike or Joe? I would love this app and I’m sure others would too. A thread, chat, or poll would be great!
Jeez, I like your enthusiasm, but please use the Reply button.
ok
Remember, that 13% also includes Android users, like me, Blackberry users, etc. I’m a programmer, and I’ve looked into it; each platform means completely re-writing the app, in a different programming language. Programmers tend to really be expert in only 1 or 2 languages, so you’d likely need several developers, meaning each one would want a little more money than if you got 1 to do all the apps.
Once you take all the other phones/tablets out, that 13% shrinks even more. You’d have to
Dammit.
…you’d have to charge an awful lot for the iPhone/iPad app; the other phones wouldn’t support their own apps because there’s not enough RAB users on them. Then, the owners of those phones would be pissed…
At this point, there’s still not enough of a base of users, and the best bet is what we have, a mobile version of the blog, that works fairly well for all our phones.
Finally- remember that many of those 13% also visit from their computers, and might not be willing to pay a lot for an app they’d use only part of the time. Perhaps a poll would be in order, or maybe even a kickstart-type deal, where nothing gets done unless enough money is raised in advance.
Pavano still pitching tomorrow?
Pavano is pushed to Friday. Liriano is pitching tomorrow.
Wouldn’t be stunned to see Garcia tomorrow, one way or the other, I suppose.
