Youngest players by league
ByVia J.J. Cooper of Baseball America, he have a list of the youngest player in each professional baseball league. The two youngest big leaguers are Starlin Castro of the Cubs and Mike Stanton of the Marlins, two of just six players younger than 22. Jesus Montero is the sixth youngest player in Triple-A this year at 21 years and four months, trailing only Julio Teheran, Jose Iglesias, Jordan Lyles, Brett Lawrie, and Tyler Chatwood (who was called up the big leagues today).
Manny Banuelos is the fourth youngest player in Double-A, Scottie Allen is the sixth youngest in High-A, and Gary Sanchez is the second youngest in Low-A. The Yankees have a tendency to promote their top prospects aggressively, but in the cases of Montero and Banuelos, it’s certainly warranted.

As easy as it is to get inpatient, and as much as it seems like we’ve been discussing Montero forever, this really puts things into perspective.
Feel bad for Iglesias and Hechevarria if the Sawx go after Reyes. Hechevarria has Yunel in front of him. Both mentioned the teams’ need at SS after signing.
It’s funny because both of them thought they would have a better shot at starting sooner with those teams than with the Yanks.
Tyler Skaggs up there too with a nice blurb about him. Remember that folks when you bash the Haren trade/non-trade again. The D’Backs might have gotten exactly who they wanted.
Seriously. Skaggs is a 6’4″, 19 year old lefty starter with a career minor league 9.6 K/9 and a 4.03 K/BB so far. He’s a dynamite prospect. If he were in our system, he’d be in our top 5 easily. Patrick Corbin looks like a solid young lefty as well (but likely a reliever).
This idea that the DBacks took a pu-pu platter that we could have easily bested with Joba and a few non-prospects needs to be retired. Saunders is an extremely valuable piece of cannon fodder, Skaggs looks like a future stud, and Corbin/Rodriguez can both become good, useful relievers.
I’m pretty sure Rodriguez was designated for assignment already. But still, Skaggs plus Corbin is a good haul. Probably not as good as it could have been, but a good haul.
Spot-on! Except you are seriously undervaluing a good pu pu platter.
Meh, I never cared for crab rangoon. Seriously, cream cheese and seafood? Together? I’ll pass.
and fried as well to add to the healthy temptation.
uh… everything bagel with nova?
Anyone know where Montero ranked last year at AAA? Had to be close to if not the youngest right?
