Game 26: No Robbie
ByRobinson Cano said after yesterday’s game that he expected to play in tonight’s game despite a bruised left hand, but that won’t be the case. The second baseman is not in the lineup for tonight’s series opener against the Tigers, but hopefully it’s just one of those “give him the extra day just to make sure he’s healthy since it’s only early-May” type deals. The good news is that precautionary x-rays turned up negative, so there’s no (obvious) break. Here’s the starting nine…
Derek Jeter, SS
Curtis Granderson, CF
Mark Teixeira, 1B
Alex Rodriguez, 3B
Nick Swisher, RF
Jorge Posada, DH
Russell Martin, C
Brett Gardner, LF
Eduardo Nunez, 2B
Bartolo Colon, SP
First pitch is scheduled for a little after 7pm ET, and the game can be seen on YES locally and ESPN nationally. Enjoy.
Phil Hughes Update: Hughes had tests performed by the specialist in St. Louis today, but there’s no word on the results just yet. Hopefully after the game or tomorrow.

Hopefully Nunez can keep up hi 400/500/600 line.
That said, I love seeing Colon dominate teams.
#RIP Robinson Cano.
Anyway, I’m hoping the Yanks can capitalize on Verlander’s tendencies to throw lots of fastballs. If they can’t score the early run, they better work the count and get to the soft bullpen.
Fortunately with Bartolo on the mound we shouldn’t need Robbie’s bat. It is a battle of aces but we can get enough production from 2-3-4 to give Bartolo all the run support he needs.
Bet you didn’t expect to say that this year
Miguel Cabrera should not see one good pitch in this series. This lineup is unimpressive. Especially after him.
somehow I doubt Colon pitches around him, he probably gets 3 straight 95 mph fastballs, lol
Dude, he went right after Bautista two starts ago. High fastball after high fastball. It was scary and awesome. Like a rollercoaster.
Open base.
2 outs.
Branedonegh Baughche on deck.
Fastball.
Fastball.
in play (runs).
Repeat.
Apparently the Yankees disagree. They would rather pump him fastballs. 2 for 2. Unreal. It’s like the Manny treatment all over again. We’re not afraid!!!!! We’re the Yankees!
NY morale way up since last night. Last night brought back some emotional memories that are gona be a driving/motivational force. Yankees = US’s team / NYs team. Yanks gona string together some wins. Be 5-2 at worst this week.
Expect .700 ball the rest if the way folks.
(can’t gurantee they’ll do well in the postseason though.)
That’s not how it works.
Pure gold. Because there’s total correlation between a historic event and a game of baseball. Gotta keep this stuff in perspective here.
sure there is.. am I the only guy who believes the 78 Yanks won because of the Son of Sam?
Ugh ESPN? We always lose onESPN.
http://www.baseball-reference......4170.shtml
The rule doesn’t apply when Arthur Rhodes pitches against the Yanks.
GODZILLA! walk off, awesome
Off a guy on my fantasy team. Sadface.
It was nice seeing Matsui hit that walk off BOO YA.
Nancy Newman looks more and more like a middle-aged Angelina Jolie. Kinda scary.
Isn’t that a good thing?
angelina jolie, too
Bob Lorenz in the booth!!!
Lorenz + Flaherty = nap time
Happy for the ESPN gift since I’m on the road.
Jeter: king of the infield hits
What’s up with Inge running in front of Peralta?
Jeterian hit!
The new kind
Well Jeter gave back a hit he wasn’t supposed to get. Meh.
Hit and run.
He’s still slow. But can’t complain since his hit is an our most of the them.
Wow I can’t type. His hit is an out most of the time.
god Jeter just sucks in so many ways
May as well have been a ground out after that.
Oh Jeter. You’re old and slow.
Ha Ha Jeter with another cheapie hit. Also the Detroit fans barely seemed to react to Granderson.
The cheers were from Yankee fans
So not even mild applause for Granderson on his return, or did I miss something, like my hearing.
Thats just good old BABIP luck
Jeter just isn’t good at ANYTHING anymore. I can’t even fathom 3 years from now.
Hopefully he will make the right decision and retire by then
Oh come on Alex you’ve gotta be kidding me.
ARods look so bad lately, slightly discouraging…
He looks so bad, yet…so, so good.
Four of the first five guys reached, but still two outs. Bah.
so this will either be a grand slam or a strikeout
Maybe Verlander will do one of those ridiculous balk moves.
Unfortunately im guessing strikeout
HIP HIP!
Verlander’s face kinda looks like Cliff Lee’s.
If Jorge could lay off the high heat he’d already have walked. Arod has to still be hurt doesn’t he?
YEAH-YUHHHH
Fuck, over the wall. That cost them a run.
Posada!
Hip hip motha fuckas
Yeah jorge will never get out again since I traded him.
Props for finding someone who’d take him.
SADO!
HIP FUCKING HIP! didn’t know you had it in ya Jorge
Well Jorge stays true to form…he hit it over the fence.
Is that gone in YS?
Damn, Tigers got lucky there. Should’ve been 3
One way to solve a below-average BABIP. Hit the ball over their heads.
Should I start feeling better about Jorge’s ABs the last couple of games.
1) LOL A-Jax.
2) That was a 100mph fastball that Posada hit!
Sorry, A-Jack.
If that doesn’t go over the fence and Jeter doesn’t steal, we’re up 4-0. cmon Russell!
If posada doesnt hit the ball the score is 0-0. Shit happens
He didn’t steal. Granderson missed the pitch on the hit and run.
immensely impressive ab by posada
hopefully Martin drives in 2 more. Verlander gets scary when he settles in
He has such a good curve, it’s weird seeing him throw so many 2-strike fastballs.
That’s a slam in any other park, Plus the ball HOPPED INTO THE FUCKING BUSHES costing us a run!!!! How can we live with that kind of shitty luck????
/Mocha Joe’d
Hahahaha
Deep burn
Verlander has some nasty stuff, but no control. Yankees need to make the most of this.
Not a 3 true outcome.
So 32 pitches in the first. Why do I have this feeling Verlander goes at least seven, if not eight, and throws under 110 pitches.
I predict 7 in, 118 pitches
32 pitches. Nice.
well we def could have gotten a few more there with a little better luck, but we got 2 runs in and worked the shit out of Verlander in that inning
The one thing this booth could improve on is excitement. That double by Posada sounded like a routine play when I was looking away from the television.
It was missing the Michael Kay “THAT BALL IIIIISSSSSSS…”
Both these guys are good balance for Kay, but not good paired together.
Im forced to listen to ESPN and everything that comes out of Rick Sutcliffes mouth makes me die a little inside
Boy do I regret that Granderson trade now.
da da da Bartolo!
lulz @ Ajax
Wow..that was a great AB AJax….Closest person to Detroit has an obligation to Yankee fans to kill Rick Sutcliffe.
Robinson Cano makes that play.
That pitch might be the farthest from being a ball that I’ve seen on Gameday that wasn’t called a strike.
lucky. Bad decision by Nunez
It wasn’t a bad decision (if you mean throwing to get the lead runner). He was just slow and almost lost the out.
Bartolo can’t bend that low
what ever happened to Robinson (dont call me Robbie) Cano?
If Colon can hold Miggy to GB singles through his legs, I’d be happy to let him have those.
Yay Brett.
I’m glad I don’t have to hate Brett anymore, that sucked.
LOL Nunez
NUNIE!!!! on an 0-2! god damn
Nice Nunez, I dont even mind that you went for the triple. That was a good play from Verlander
agreed if it goes to the catcher he gets to third base
Woooo Eduardo. Can’t blame him too much for being aggressive.
ANd this si the most boring booth ever.
Big hit by Nunez, hope he was sent to 3rd.
Smart play by Verlander.
verlander with the amazing cut off…nunez totally would of been safe…awful idea with 0 outs though
Nunez just hit a ball farther than any ball Jeter hit this year. Not even mad at him for getting thrown out, I like the aggressiveness.
It’s the Apocalypse.
getting thrown out at 3rd base with no outs is one of the dumbest plays in baseball
I thought Flash was a catcher… Or is he just trolling calling those pitches sliders?
Wouldn’t it make sense that Derek would even ocassionally hit a ball hard?
Okay, I’ll take that. An improvement.
Shouldn’t Verlander have been behind the plate backing up the throw to the catcher?
yes I live in Michigan and the Tigers announcers were talking about that. Verlander messed up but it was a lucky break because he happened to be there
Yes. But the 1b should bearound the pitchers mound for a cut off. I’m guessing the tiger 1b is either too lazy to be where he should be or too drunk to get to remember.
Every Yankee reached safely the first time around, yet they only have 3 runs.
That would be an interesting stat, but it’s not true. A-Rod flied out.
Jeeetttuuurrrrr
Ehh, at least this one was in the air and left the infield
What is going on?! No homeruns but 3-0. Jeter gets a hit?! Madness!
Hahaha, Except A-Rod and Martin. Self-imposed internet timeout for me.
Great at bat by Jeter.
Well look at that. Jeter got a hit on something other than a ground ball through the hole.
Geez, the crowd is as quiet and boring as the announcers, and that was even before the runs started scoring.
The crowd is about as lively as the rest of Detroit.
have you been to detroit?
Yes, 2 years ago. I was just joking around.
Other YES play by play announcers (except Ken Singleton) make me realize how much I miss Michael Kay when he’s not doing a game.
51 pitches. Not even 1 inning. Looking good.
O man, that two seemer just isn’t fair
Nasty shit there from Colon
Colon just keeps mowing down hitters.
the movement on that two-seamer still blows my mind
It is the best two seamer/sinker that I have seen this Chien Ming Wang.
You can say it was a Colon blow
Am I the only one heard some guy yell “Ay Ay Ay Kid” after Colon struck out the leadoff batter? Lol
Me too, it sounded like the ump.
Avila? seriously?
you havent watched Avila play. He’s been really good this year
he absolutely crushed that to the opposite field, didn’t think he could do that.
I thought he looked pretty bad in our first Tigers series of the season.
Just a slight bump on the road, just keep doin’ your thing thing Colon.
That was a shot. Opposite field in this park is no joke.
95 mph. Sick. Fucking sick.
High Colonic
ARod needs to get his shit together.
I hope this isn’t the part where he starts sending us down in order.
u knew it was coming
Nunez is such a disappointment. He took too many pitches to be Cano’s replacement. If he can’t go up there and hack at the first pitch… wasted effort.
Not his fault, Verlander didn’t throw him any face-level fastballs to swing at.
IETC
Alex is officially in a slump. But to be fair that was a great pitch to finish off A-Rod.
What’s wrong with Alex? Baltimore game aside, he hasn’t been the same hitter since he sat for a few games with that strained back.
2 + 2 = 4? Its probably the back still
Why did we trade AJax? WHY???????
Man, AJax has just flopped. Guess he wasn’t always a super hitter in AAA, though.
I was just wondering to myself how long it would take before the league starts sitting on that 2 seamer on the inside to lefties
“Phil Hughes’ tests came back negative for all circulatory and vascular issues. Back to the drawing board.”
good, I guess, still wanna know what’s wrong
its te Joba rules coming back to haunt us all… didn’t need a circulatory expert to figure that out
Bah, not sure why they pitched to Miggy with two outs and first base open.
Swisher throws like a girl.
Damonesque
Swisher’s throws brought to you by The Lollipop Guild.
can we just IBB Miggy everytime this series please?
no hitter is that good.
Didn’t the news break around 10pm central? Is it sad that I’m wondering why Jeter, Sabathia, and Posada were still at dinner at that point?
Probably flew to Detroit after the game and had a late dinner. Mega millionaire eat when they want.
Baseball players are on a different schedule. Game is usually from 7-10-ish, then they eat dinner.
Why would you pitch to him with first base open, two outs, and a guy on second?????
The brilliant Girardi delivers again… Should have IBB Cabrera.
Well thank goodness for Hughes, tests came back negative
wow, that was a loud ground out.
yo… u think dat Pedrioa should git a sanwich?
wha, yuu mean da Lazah Show?
I now hate the Nashua Garden…
Trivia answer = Mo, I believe.
Yep. I remember Santana should have won but HOW DARE A PITCHER WIN THE CY YOUNG WITH ONLY 16 WINS.
Same thing happened that year in the NL. Clemens couldn’t win because he only had 13 wins.
9 baserunners through 3+…wow
Gardner is now batting over .200. Success.
BUNT!!!! That’s how much faith I don’t have in Jeter right now
I’m too used to Gardner batting ninth obviously
Okay Eduardo, whatever you do, DON’T HIT INTO A DOUBLE PLAY!
78 pitches. he’s lucky it’s not 5 or 6 runs too. Here comes the bunt?
STOP BUNTING!!!
so much fail in this AB
Why can’t big leaguers bunt
because they know they usually shouldn’t
With Jeter coming up you need to bunt just to avoid DP.
The Yankees working over Verlander= great for me as a Yankee fan, bad for my fantasy team’s pitching. Though, the former unequivocally outweighs the latter.
holy shit…what’s on Nunez’s thumb?
thumb guard-he always uses it. Swish uses a smaller one and so does gardy.
Damn it Nunez, you need to advance there
You’re now forgiven Nunez
Nunez needs to take 2nd so that Jeter can’t GIDP
funny game. it’s essentially like he got the bunt down successfully.
Nunez fail… should be at second. Again, fundamentals.
Nunez is trying to be a worse baserunner than Robbie.
Alright good steal Eduardo. Shoulda been there on the WP, but that’ll do.
Well that fixed that problem.
Slowwww bat
Clutch Jeter. Clutch.
Color me not surprised, damn it Jeter
Jeter, Jeter, pumpkin eater.
suckitude = Jeter
I can NEVER figure out why this doesn’t happen more often. They almost never throw down in MLB with a runner at 3rd. Glad to see us take advantage. Derek Jeter isn’t a major league baseball player. What a fucking joke.
take away the GIDP from Jeter and he gives you a strike out
Juiced gun?
I think so. I vaguely remember someone last year (not sure if it was Joba or Valverde hitting the 100′s on the gun).
Ugh…sorry. *I vaguely remember someone last year (not sure if it was Joba or Valverde) hitting the 100′s on the gun.
Fuck. Excellent play.
damn
Wow, nice play by Verlander
Seriously? I can’t believe Verlander made that play. And the fact that we came away with no runs
What a frustrating inning….holy shit.
Fricking Jeter where his ground ball when you need it?
This is the new Bizzaro Jeter in which he does exactly the opposite of old Jeter would do
http://www.funnyordie.com/arti.....erek-jeter
O man, Granderson got absolutely robbed of two RBI there, nice play
Jeter got owned. flat out owned.
Grandy just was unlucky.
FUCK FUCK FUCK. Verlander has gotten really lucky today.
Jeter .158 ba with RISP this year … so much for Captain Clutch
I still find it funny that every regular, and several subs, has gotten a walk-off hit in the last 2+ years except him. I wonder if he can make it AJ’s entire 5 year contract without one.
Second and third with one out, really wanted runs there. At least we made Verlander work.
I feel guilty. It’s almost like i’ve completely forgotten about all of Jeter’s past greatness and now whenever i see him at the plate I don’t expect anything. It’s like i want him to get 3000 hits and then just go away
I feel the same way. It’s sad.
He can just be a statue in Monument Park.
I almost don’t even want him to get 3000 before leaving since it’ll just be remembered (at least by me) as an old washed-up player hanging on too long for personal milestones.
and what do you call that fucking albatross of a contract? replace ‘milestones’ with ‘greed’….
The “Drek 4-3ter Document”
Nice inning.
Johan Santana in 2005: 231.2 IP, 180 H, 45 BB, 238 Ks, 77 RA, 155 ERA+, 7.6 fWAR
He got robbed.
Man…Tex.
That’s an unconventional way to catch a flyball there by Boesch.
not if you’re coming out of the slot…
wow… thought that was gonna drop between aJax and Bosch out there.. that was tailing off quick
Good job swinging at ball four Swish.
97 mph fastballs up in the zone aren’t easy to lay off.
True. But usually Swish is a more patient hitter.
Clearly, Verlander’s settled down, and it showed. Now Colon has to keep Ramon and Miguel from getting on base.
Verlander is damn good…good thing we got to him early.
And good thing we’re about to see the bullpen.
I bet they send Verlander back out. They get their money’s worth out of him.
The Central is totally upside-down. Never would’ve seen that coming.
If you told me the Twins would be the worse team in baseball and the Indians would be the best, I’d call you crazy.
The AL East was upside down earlier in the year. Things will eventually end up the way they should be.
I have no idea what the “way it should be” in the AL Central is. The Twins and White Sox are so, so bad.
Not on paper. But that’s not what really matters is it?
Of course, he’s also gotta keep Inge and/or A-Jax from hitting one out.
hahah andrew just got caught daydreaming!
Lolz A-Jax.
ohhhhh my that two-seamer was god-like
I feel bad for Ajax. Yeah its funny seeing him strikeout against us, but i dont like seeing the kid down like that
Austin Jackson strikes out. #commentsfromforever.
Ramon Santiago is starting to be a problem
please get Ordonez, save Miggy for next inning
I just said don’t let Santiago back on base. Now it’s either get Magglio or deal with Miguel again.
AJax being fitted for the sombrero… can’t imagine why he was traded.
it took 5 years in professional sport and a major trade, but it looks like the BABIP Fairy finally caught up to him…
Colon FTW, so efficient too
wtf at Andruw? lmao
I love you Andruw.
Lorenz sounded surprised to see a runner going from first on a 3-2 count with two outs.
Santiago is now 11-20 in his career against Colon. What the hell is that about?
Numbers against Colon aren’t lying then, with those 3 hits tonight.
It looks like Bartolo is running out of gas.
Grunting and farting.
speaking of… is that Joba’s music I hear??
I have not seen a Colon move that fast since the last time I had a prune milkshake.
In all seriousness how “for real” is Colon becoming? Are injuries really the only concern at this point? It seems as if the stuff is legit… to legit to quit, even.
hey heyyyyyyyyyyy
I danced
and the more he goes out there, the more realistic getting down to 260 lbs becomes.
And Colon won’t have to deal with Miggy. Until the bottom of the 6th, that is.
Phew. Wasn’t really a jam but it felt like it with you know who on deck. Good job so far Bartolo. A few insurance runs would be nice.
hiphip jorge finally not hitting homeruns.
yay multi-hit game for Sado!
jorge with the goatee??? sticking it to the man
LOL, part time players/DHs are exempt from the ‘clean shave’ rules
I know its verlanders last inning, but I can’t help but be annoyed he has gone into the 6th
What was he going to throw 130 innings into the fifth? lol
Leyland: “I must break you”
Hey Gardner up to .211/.325/.408. That’s almost not terrible.
honestly, i am liking Gardner, everyone slumps so to see him breaking out of it and showing that his approach does work is refreshing really good for the Yanks going forward. I like him as an OF for his six years.
Heres hoping he gets his trade value up.
wow, 100mph and its like pitch 120
Verlander is a freak there is just that much too it. However, I do worry that Verlander may be getting pushed to hard by Leyland.
Nolan Ryan must love this guy.
Verlander’s arm is gonna fall off. 100mph at pitch 122. Jesus.
come on Jeter, shock me with a big hit
I will take a walk.
/facepalm
nasty pitches there, I dont think anyone could hit those..
I wonder if Leyland is having a Fernando Rodney flashback.
weak
JETER.
Getting pretty sick of Jeter never ever ever coming through. Clutch my ass.
TWSS.
I blame A-Rod.
it really is just fucking sad at this point. how much more can he take?
about 49 singles more. Hang in there everyone!
someone wake Leyland up and remind him that its still May… he might need his only good starter this season… 127 pitches. goddam!
would it kill Jeter to be clutch, just once this year?
Ugh, Jeter the old geezer bails out JV again
wow, gasssssss, i was almost routing for verlander right there, i know, worst yankee fan ever.
I’m so surprised. Not surprised.
Gardner has been drawing more walks and Jeter has been drawing more strikeouts. I think it’s about time Girardi inform the captain that he will be hitting 9th in the order from now on.
Fricking Jeter…..
“The last thing you want to do when you’re not swinging the bat well is to get the most at-bats on the team,” Long said. “It’s a smart move. He’s a smart kid, so he gets it. He doesn’t have to be happy about it, but at this point in time, it’s the best thing to do.”
That’s Kevin Long on Gardner. I wish one of the sort-of gutless beat writers would actually ask Girardi why that doesn’t apply to Jeter.
Tip of the hat to Verlander. He got lucky here and there, but straight-up battled for 6 innings. The bullpen is ours now.
props to Verlander on that at bat. That was boss
please Jeter, just please.
its a christmas miracle. he got out cabrera
So is Colon a “little” thinner, or have I simply gotten used to his girth? Perhaps the better he pitches, the thinner he appears. Win another Cy Young Award, I’ll see Ron Guidry/Tim Lincecum on the mound.
he probably loses 15 pounds from sweating throughout a start, that may be it
But gains weight later from being so hungry while on the mound.
It’s like a 2 step foward, 1 step back approach for him
Detroit bullpen looking a bit less homeless this time around.
Bartolo is partying like its 2005.
Like. A. Boss.
Damn that two-seamer is sick.
Colon for the ASG!
I thought there was no “I” in Derek Jeter.
I can’t believe how fucking awesome Bartolo is.
Bartolo= 2011 WS MVP
book it
Weaver giving it up to Pedroia. Lame.
WTF is up with the Angels bending over for the AL East teams, I thought for sure Weaver would handle them.
The Angels always bend over for the Red Sox. They’re the biggest frauds in the league, play well against everyone but the good teams.
And yet the Yankees haven’t won a season series against them since 2003.
Weaver couldn’t put Pedroia away, that is the difference in the game. It was a 13 pitch AB battle. It wasn’t bending over.
It was ace against ace tonight and Bartolo proved that he is better than Verlander. Hopefully the offense can give us a couple more against their awful pen. It would be a shame if the offense and bullpen combined to ruin another gem by our starter.
Well it’s not like the Tigers have 9 real men hitting. It’s like a giant and 8 other ants hitting
Lance Berkman. Wow.
Unsustainable doesn’t do his BABIP and HR/FB numbers justice, but still, what a start.
I picked him up around the time Zimmerman got hurt, and he singlehandedly saved my fantasy team.
And the Angels again shrivel up to the Sox. Fuck you guys.
That play however, was bending over for the Sox.
Darn that little leprechaun.
I still have hope in Papelbon blowing it.
Ok, Arod’s slump is officially becoming really annoying
why does YES insist on giving a view of the umpire’s ass
Well, Flaherty likes it…
Why do you think?
no homo
I never heard such silence on a 2 strike count with 2 outs.
Teix so slow..
runs please
When did A-rod’s average drop 100 points?
when his oblique took a vacation to the Dominican Republic and never came back.
the unwritten story… we traded A-Rods oblique to the Dominican Winter League for the rights to Colon…
Raburn sucks out loud in LF…
Cano better be back soon because I don’t see the Yankees going anywhere this year without him.
please dont swing and miss on the curve down and inside
I’d rather have waved Tex home, Thompson.
How do you take that?
/facepalm
We need to tell the Yankees every inning is the first inning.
Colon for the Comeback Player of the Year award!
I don’t think Raburn’s arm is that good. Thompson should’ve waved Tex home.
wow, Posada got froze up by an 89 mph 4 seamer down the pike. can girardi let him catch bp sessions in between innings? shit, let him wear the chest protector or something in the dugout…
phew….heart stopped for a sec
What???? Where’s the Seventh Inning Guy?? I know Colon only has 80+ pitches but what about the Binder???
Huh Joe????
Avila, are you kidding me?
Dammit.
what.the.fuck
Shit.
Fucking Aviles, what the fuck
well… there goes Colon’s win.
Damn, and here I was thinking that one run lead would hold up for seven innings.
Oh, come on.
There’s only two guys that can hit in this lineup and Bartolo has let both of them beat him.
I know Cabrera drove in a run, but I think holding him to a groundout and a couple singles is a win. Keeping him in the park is the big thing, especially with runners on.
How do you stop that though? I mean he threw like 6 straight fastballs and then Avila hits a change-up in the other batters box out the other way, you just tip your cap
Avila was drafted in the 34th round and was a .280 MLB hitter. Not sure he’s the guy I would expect to beat us.
.280 minor league hitter. I think he hit .210 last year. He’s not someone that should have had a game like this, but it happens.
unfortunate, he was pitching a heckuva game
Fuck. I knew Avila would hit another home run.
You knew? And you didn’t bother to share it with the rest of us? Dick.
+1
Well I’m definitely not sharing my fortune-telling powers now.
/weak comeback’d
O man, I don’t know how that got out
Me either. Looked like a routine out off the bat
Jackson should be his last batter no matter what
That was a changeup out of the zone, Avila is just hot this year
We better be able to squeeze across another run soon…
Maybe the Yankees should stop stranding runners in scoring position! we should have so many more runs than we do.
It’s teh home runs! They can’t win games without ‘em. Except that one time.
well, then, i would like some home runs please.
that’s on the offense.
Great game Bartolo… lets hope the offense can get you a W
Seven strong innings from Colon, most likely up to the pen and the offense to take this game from the Tigers.
damn, missed the sombrero.
Another stellar out from Colon. I salute thee.
*outing
Who is looking forward to the Soriano vs Cabrera matchup that is inevitably coming in the 8th?
I am gonna need some alcohol.
ask Cabrera for some of his
oh jeez, this place doesn’t even have a mini-bar. hotel fail.
At least this isn’t YS3.
damn you avila!!!
damn, Arod has a cannon of an arm
Obviously Al was available today.
They have the worst pen in baseball. There’s no reason we can’t put one across even with Jeter coming up if a man gets on base.
Sort of related to today’s YES text question they just showed on which former Tiger great you’d like to see play, I’m doing some research on a baseball that I’ve identified as being from the 1950s that has the signatures of every living Tiger HOFer from that time, and some non-HOFers who were significant players, and a few non-significant players.
Ty Cobb, Mickey Cochrane, Charlie Gehringer, Sam Crawford, Goose Goslin, Al Simmons etc., moving down to known, but less significant Tigers like Elden Auker, who until 2006 was the last person alive who signed the ball.
There is one signature, and only one signature, we can not figure out, although I’ve been trying to figure it out for a few years.
From what I can tell, the Tigers had a special day in the mid- to late-50s where they invited all these living legends and near-legends to a game. The ball has been shown to some very knowledgeable baseball people who are fascinated by it, but they also can’t figure out the one name.
The next step is an appraisal, although I don’t have any interest in selling it, but I do need to understand its value.
I wonder if there is a Tiger/MLB memorabilia expert out there who can help identify the unknown name and do an appraisal. Any suggestions?
We’re into the Tigers’ bullpen, I still feel pretty confident about our chances.
Here comes the fucking bunt.
I wish he’d at least try to bunt for a base hit.
Even if it goes wrong and Martin gets thrown out at second, Gardner can still steal 2nd.
Banking on a SB? He’s been thrown out like 5 times already this season?
SSS, I guess don’t let Gardner steal bases anymore.
The chance is still better than giving up the run.
That guy hasn’t even been close. Don’t bunt, Girardi.
Here comes the bunt
Stop. The. Bunting.
fuck!!!!!!!!!!
You know what, that was a damn good bunt
Al Albaquerque? fantastic name, sounds like he should be running the second ring at Wringling Bros…
kick ass jersey though, his name is almost in a circle around his #
that bunt was magical, can’t believe he got him out
what a great play…and bunting to set up Nunez/Jeter???????????? Robbie better pinch hit.
Girardi thinks he’s so cute with his bunts. It’s moronic
1. Lead off guy just walked.
2. Gardner has reached base in his last six plate appearances and in eight of his last nine.
1 + 2 =/= bunt
meh not too upset about it in the top of the 8th on the road.
What about that post didn’t you understand?
who said something was misunderstood?
…more annoying, has Gardner shown any ability to get on base with a bunt?
To add, I actually was viewing the bunt as an attempt to get a hit. I haven’t seen Gardner get on base with a bunt. I’m sure he’s done it at some point, but I don’t view it as a skill he’s shown.
agreed… made zero sense. good idea to bunt the hottest hitter on the team for the past week, stupid
it couldnt be more obvious that he was bunting for a hit. he figured if he didnt get the hit, it would be a sac anyway. its really not the crime youre making it seem.
Let me remind everyone he’s the best hitter right now!!!!
When your situational numbers on the night are 1-for-9 with RISP, and stranding 9 runners, you don’t deserve to win this game. I’ll be surprised if even another one gets through, because so many chances are being wasted tonight.
id be willing to bet gardner did that on his own… it was clearly a drag bunt for a hit.
lets not jump on girardi so easily. if that bunt was called, it certainly wasnt executed like it.
if they can’t get this run in….come on Nunie
Yes.
what a MONSTER break..Of course, we haven’t gotten a guy in from 3rd with less than 1 out yet.
Is Robbie able to PH?
FUCK
we should have a dozen fucking runs….jesus fucking christ.
Of course.
God this is so fucking annoying. The tiger’s have gotten so many lucky breaks
grrreat….
I can’t handle another stranded runner at the hands of Jeter. Seriously. DO SOMETHING Jeter.
Jeter, fucking do something
Jeter in another position to get an RBI? What will be the outcome?
Just one big hit please Derek
fuck you Jeter, retire
let’s bunt with Garnder to have 2 worse hitters coming after.
So happy our hottest hitter bunted for our 2 worst hitters.
Jeter’s clutch though.
predictable.. cant even make hard contatc anymore
Jeter has already retired. He just forgot to tell everybody
Is anyone else hearing the announcers talking about how range is overrated? “If he can get to it, he’ll field it and throw you out.” “he makes all the plays he’s supposed to make.”….HOLY SHIT
That is a good point though, I’d rather have Jeter’s range than Nunez’s piss poor accuracy
The amount of balls a normal SS gets and Jeter is a fuck ton per season.
The amount of errors Jeter makes less is very slim in comparison. Jeter is flat out not good at SS.
Super win!!!!!!
How predictable
automatic out now.
This bunting has officially jumped the shark. Girardi’s just trolling now.
its almost as if youve never seen a fast left handed hitter just decide to drag bunt for a hit before….
jeter = awesome
Jeter is the most annoying guy to watch even when he is going 2-5
Agreed. Who would think a little loss of bat speed would turn a guy who consistently hit line drives into an automatic ground-ball out machine. Sad.
its the reflex speed too. hes my all time fav player, but yeah… hes the easiest out on the team. i hate wathcing it.
In the words of my wife upon switching over the the Yankee game and watching Jeter ground out to end the inning with a man on 3rd: “Shocking”
We should just put Jeter down. I don’t know how many more weak groundouts to the pitcher or to the shortstop I can take.
They should have pinch hit Robbie for Jeter.
This game is just frustrating.
i guess consistency has two sides to it. There are two things in life you can count on. the sunrise and a Derek Jeter groundout. you can set your watch by both.
Brett, i love you man.
Gardner!
thats what range does for you
Love me some good ol’ range by my outfielders.
I thought that was gone.
Love that outfield defense duo of Gardy and Grandy. Gardner’s UZR has to be really good so far with all the plays he’s made
IBB
WALK HIM.
If your Joba Chamberlain, walking Cabrera isn’t a bad thing at all here.
Jaw-bah.
even though gardner may not be the best hitter at least he has range and covers alot of ground uzr was like 15 last year…he will be useful for the nxt 3 to 4 years cuz of his d alone unlike jeter
Robbie would have had that?
I love Gardy’s legs!
Not in a gay way, just sayin’…
I love Gardy’s legs. In the most gay way possible.
NoMass’d
Well at least Miggy didnt hit it out
Robbie would have had that #justsayin
Cabrera hit that a “little” harder than Jeter hit his.
Ya great job Joba. The guy swings at 2 pitches 3 feet off the plate so you throw him a strike on 1-2….fucking STUPID.
shhhh its okay lol they were going to walk him anyway
whatevs
wonder if DRob is the closer tonight
Mo will close
If this offense can actually score again
Nice inning from Joba.
2-3-4, les go.
Valverde looks like a mental patient.
Really amazing how such a potent offense can make getting a ball through the infield with RISP so problematic. Last week, it was with base hits.
Valverde is a very good pitcher
please get some runs off this douche
CAN. NOT. STAND. VALVERDE.
He reminds me of a chicken.
It doesn’t appear the Yankees have scored after a ‘successful’ sacrifice bunt since opening day.
And the definition of insanity is…
Valverde’s windup looks so soft, it shocks me everytime the ball gets there at 95-96.
Valverde has not missed a post game meal in some time.
Seriously, they must’ve sent the C team to Detroit. Worst announcers, some poor camera shots, bad producing/directing with their obsession with that behind home plate view.
Solid at bat.
Bunt Tex!!!!!
great AB by Granderson
Great at-bat, Curtis.
Teix will obviously bunt here
Awesome AB by the Grandy man. If I see one more bunt…
Best at bat of the season by a Yankee?
Are you fucking kidding me.
Fucking fuck shit.
Can’t slide past the bag like that.
Trying to avoid having his head go into the guy’s knee was hard.
are you fucking kidding me? It’s like they’re trying every way to lose this.
I would like nothing more than for Valverde to get hit by a baseball. I hate that idiot’s face.
Omg thats such fucking bullshit. Yet another break for the Tigers
Jose Valverde Caption contest!
http://media.mlive.com/grpress....._large.jpg
All I hear when I see that picture is explosive diarrhea
I knew I shouldn’t have ate tacos for lunch today
I…don’t even know what to say.
wow… just terrible
Grandy has to do better than that..
Jesus Christ.
Oh shit.
Great, great at-bat by the Grandyman. He’s going to score the winning run for his efforts. *hopes he hasn’t jinxed it*
Aaaaand gameday just updated to show that he’s caught stealing.
how lucky could one team possibly get in one game….
Yanks are playing some pretty weak ball
This game has just had aggravating loss written all over it since the very beginning. Sad…
Yuck. This game is painful.
The grandyman giveth and the grandyman taketh away
Oh come on…
I want to say that was a bad move, but Granderson easily had that base.
Move > slide
Win the game arod
Alright, A-Rod…You fucking twat.
IEC
I’ll never understand why Girardi insists on playing small ball and running into outs when he has the most powerful lineup in baseball. Valverde hasn’t even been close to the plate.
The stealing wasn’t the problem.
He had that base stolen easily… the problem was the slide..
dude that was a good steal, he had the base just made a bad slide you cant blame Girardi on that
He had that base easy. It was a great jump and a bad slide. Can’t blame them for going on Valverde.
It was a great jump and an unlucky slide. If you watch Granderson sliding, you see he has to turn his head to avoid slamming into Avila’s knee. When he takes his eye off the bag, he screws up the slide.
Er. Not Avila, the catcher. Heh. Whoever that was with the tag.
There have been like 5 outs on the basepaths. You cant do that.
Thank you, Inge.
Finally, a break goes our way.
Break… Counter break….
Take that everyday.
BTW Anyone else having issues with posting speed? My computer hangs, so trying to figure out if it’s my connection is slow tonight, or if RAB is slow tonight.
Mine is slow too.
Finally something goes our way…
FINALLY we get some kind of break
This inning is just really really ugly to look at for both teams.
If Kay were on, we’d be hearing about the fallacy of the predetermined outcome right now, because of the Granderson out.
SOMEBODY FUCKING GET A HIT WITH RISP
that’s what i’m talking about Nick!!! Suck on that shit Valverde you bitch.
“Suck on that shit Valverde you bitch.”
Whoa whoa a lot of anger here jk
You know the Yankees will find a way to waste this opportunity
They proved me wrong. Pessimism is a bitch.
lets go swish!
If the score remains tied, shouldn’t Joba come back out? Did he even throw ten pitches?
Okay, move on to Mo!
Fuck yes Swisher.
RISPFAIL NO MORE!
Swish!! oh thank god
YESSSS. God, I hate Valverde.
Here we go! Nice job Swish.
Swish!!!
Finally. Swish looks like he’s coming around.
Tex running in YES-MO
Wow. Thanks Swish!
Jesus Mary and Joseph, thank you Swish.
Wow, Tex looked like he was running in water there
Sure am glad they just signed Damon and put him in centerfield there.
It’s 9-2 Red Sox? Can you at least try and put up a fight tomorrow? That would be great.
please hit a fly ball Jorge…PLEASE. no gidp
The fact that this is happening with that douchehead Valverde on the mound makes it that much better
Finally.
I still have no fucking idea why home plate umpires call the check swing strike. What fucking arrogance to think that you know if he swung or not.
wooo!!
Well 1 run is all we need and will get.
Whatever, I can live with it now, it’s just a joke at this point
Sure would have loved that insurance run though. Martin could get it done
Fucking pathetic.
ugly hacks by Posada.. I guess a flyball was just too much to ask
YES. We’ll take it.
YESSSSSSS insurance runs FTW
yayyyyy
This isn’t even a MLB game at this point.
lol Valverde
Good play Jose/Avila!
Thank you. We need extra help here tonight to get our runners in.
Yankees are gonna knock Valverde out for the next few games.
Doubt we see Valverde again this series…
Al and Perry have also been overused lately and Villareal warmed up pretty much all game. Could be a fun series if we can put the hurt on them tomorrow
I’ll take it. Mo time.
He he he, how the tides have turned.
Time to put me ahead in all my pitching categories Mo.
Was that a win or a save guys?
Win for Joba, Save for Mo.
Thanks!
35 pitches and two runs, all off Valverde. Could that inning have gone any better other than the terrible slide?
So Valverde didn’t look right and Jimmy Leyland leaves him in for 35 pitches with 3 games left in the series? And he throws his starter 130 pitches in May? Makes me glad for once that we have Girardi.
We need to blow out tomorrow’s game so that Mo gets some rest.
GAME OVER
How many trees must Mo kill?
i’m pretty sure they were dead already.
(whisper) the horror….tHE HORROR
that dude has a HOSE….and Rick Sutcliffe is talking about how great our infield defense is…DIE Sutcliffe…die…
I’d like to see what Arod could do on the mound…
Guess we won’t see either closer tomorrow. Would be a nice game to blow-out Penny and have CC go the distance.
Which is quite likely.
Foolish mortals.
Swish is hyped up
Good game, ya’ll. Jose Valverde is fat.
10 pitch inning for Mo is very nice
Avila striking out to end the game? Perfect if you ask me. This could’ve been an ugly loss though. Thank Mo for Jose Valverde and his antics.
Here’s one guy here that got proved wrong, at least just for tonight, after stranding all those baserunners. Ugly win, but they’ll take it.
Here’s one guy here that just got proved wrong, at least for tonight, after stranding all those baserunners. Ugly win, but they’ll take it.
Really hoping that Angels somehow comeback.
Great win. We were missing our best hitter and we still pulled it out. I’ve been saying all along that we have the best 1-2 punch in baseball and Bartolo certainly proved he was the better ace tonight. Tomorrow is one of the most lopsided pitching matchups you’ll ever see. With their awful pen and 2 man lineup we should have no problem taking 3/4.
Oh, and sorry about the double post. I guess the one I tried to edit went through even though I clicked the Stop button on my browser.
