Game 53: Halfway-ish there

By

Still haven't changed the sign to Overstock.com, I see. (Photo Credit: Amanda Rykoff)

Tonight is game five of this nine game road trip down America’s west coast, and so far I think the net result is a positive one. The Yankees are 2-2 on the trip but had multiple run leads in the two losses against a pair of really good pitchers, which is all you could ask from them. Brett Anderson will be no fun tonight, but then again I said the same thing about Trevor Cahill yesterday. Here’s the lineup…

Derek Jeter, SS
Curtis Granderson, CF
Mark Teixeira, 1B
Alex Rodriguez, 3B
Robinson Cano, 2B
Russell Martin, C
Nick Swisher, RF
Andruw Jones, DH
Brett Gardner, LF

Freddy Garcia, RHP

First pitch is scheduled for a little after 10pm ET, and the game can be seen on YES locally and MLB Network nationally. Enjoy, assuming you stay awake for the whole game.

    coommmeee onnnn sweaty freddy!

  2. Xstar7 says:

    I. Hate. West coast trips.

    • Thomas Tu says:

      I disagree.

I can get seats about 15 rows behind the dugout in Oakland Coliseum for about 50 bucks….and that’s against the Yankees.

West Coast is full of win.

  3. ArchStanton says:

Brian Bruney is back in the bigs and trying to help Boston win their game tonight. He’s still got it!

  4. Pastadivingarod says:

    Lets go yanks
Watching bruney melt down and get the saux back in the game
Boy does that guy still suck

  5. Pastadivingarod says:

Redsox lose thank godbthey put Sale in.

  6. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

The Red Sox lost and Cliff Lee got hammered.

All is well in the world.

  7. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    Ellis pulled a Robbie there

  8. Hummingbird S. says:

    Grandy!!!

  9. David N says:

    BOOM.

    That was quick.

  10. Scout Finch says:

    See ya

  11. Mike Axisa says:

Fucking Curtis. This man is a monster.

  12. aRX says:

    Holy shit…that was fast :D

  13. Cy Pettitte says:

    lol Curtis is not human.

  14. Kit says:

I love you, Curtis. Don’t ever change.

  15. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    Overstock.com Colosseum’d

I know that didn’t make sense.

  16. Erica says:

Grandy is SO DOMINANT. I love it.

  17. Pat D says:

    The Grandyman can.

  18. Cy Pettitte says:

that was cool how the ball knocked his hat off

  19. Hummingbird S. says:

that didnt look foul at all

  20. Pat D says:

Oh, and since I saw people saying they were having technical problems in the Open Thread.

I’m using IE8 and every time I open a page, I get a script error. I just tell it to stop the script and the page works fine then.

  21. jon says:

is it me or is this site not loading right?

i keep having to press stop

  22. Cy Pettitte says:

damn they are mashing Anderson, love it.

  23. Pat D says:

Yea, definitely saw chalk fly up on Teix’s bloop.

  24. David N says:

The bats, they are a clicking…

  25. Xstar7 says:

Grandy follows up that rough day yesterday with a home run today. Auh-may-zing.

  26. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

Am I the only one that’s never scared of the A’s pitchers? I know they are good, but the Yankees always seem to hit them well.

  27. Avi says:

Poll question: Under/Over 35 homer for Granderson this year?

  28. smurfy says:

Did you hear the sound of Curtis’ bat? The pure wooden tone still rings for me. We should start a campaign to get YES to let such beautiful noise come thru our TV sets from Yankee Stadium. Every hit sounds like a rubber band on a cardboard box. Intentional?

  29. the tenth inning stretch says:

Brett Anderson: “Man, these Yankee hitters are tough. I couldn’t do anything against them.”

Trevor Cahill: “Tell me about. This Nova guy is lucky.”

Brett Anderson: “They scored him 2 runs in the first, our guys score us 2 runs in a week.”

  30. Pat D says:

And just to get some stuff out of the way.

    R.I.P. Andy Robustelli.

Hopefully all goes well for Gary Carter and his tumors can be treated.

Also, in case no one saw this, Boston has set their rotation for next week so they’ll throw their top 3 guys. So, c’mon, Joe, the writing is on the wall…

  31. Cy Pettitte says:

is there a site that would let me see a list of who Granderson’s home runs have been off of this year?

  32. David N says:

Quick runs, quick innings for Freddy = the cure for the west coast night game blues.

  33. bonestock94 says:

    Even Jones’ popups are cool.

  34. Cy Pettitte says:

Andruw will get one into orbit some time this season

  35. first time lawng time says:

I’m not going to stay up for the whole game, so I’m hoping for the Yanks to get a nice lead within the next few innings.

Or at least I hope to come on the site tomorrow for a happy recap.

  36. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    wtf was Swish doing?

  37. Hummingbird S. says:

Swisher is just awful on the bases

  38. first time lawng time says:

Arod was the man in the 2009 playoffs.

I remember he hit another game tying HR in extras in the ALCS and I thought to myself, oh no he didn’t.

    Guy was good.

  39. Cy Pettitte says:

    stupid overrated ARod

  40. Erica says:

    Ouch, A-Rod

  41. bonestock94 says:

    Sooooo many errors this season

  42. V says:

People are REALLY whining about Swisher’s baserunning after that? How many players DON’T get doubled up there?

  43. first time lawng time says:

What is that sound? Sounds like a bell and it’s giving me a migraine.

  44. Pat D says:

So it was Jim Joyce who blew that call on Teix’s bloop?!?

    I knew it!!

(just kidding, I think Jim Joyce is awesome)

  45. Cy Pettitte says:

lol Jeter has amazing luck, you could say he has an “edge”

  46. iloveyoubartolo says:

    lol

  47. Mike Axisa says:

They gave him a hit on that?

  48. V says:

Holy shit that was a bad call.

  49. Cy Pettitte says:

that called strike to Granderson was laughable.

  50. first time lawng time says:

Fun fact: I still have yet to watch a no hitter/perfect game.

Would be nice if a Yankee did one this year.

  51. Pat D says:

    Missed Jeter’s play.

Also, nice bullshit strike call on Grandy.

  52. jon says:

arod making up for the error

  53. Hummingbird S. says:

yay for a hit with RISP

  54. NHYankeesFan says:

I dont mean to go off-topic here, but there is a mock draft, with every MLB player in the draft, thats going to be happening tomorow at 12 on ESPN. I bet there are at least 12 Red Sox players selected in the first round

  55. Pat D says:

Anyone else think Crisp let up on that?

  56. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    ARod got lucky

  57. bonestock94 says:

    Sweet bloop

  58. first time lawng time says:

Colosseum doesn’t even sound like a stadium. There are so many individual people/sounds you can hear that it reminds me of a little league game or a spring training game.

  59. Esteban says:

Yankees can score all ways. Homers, infield singles and bloops. Yep, I’m changing the narrative.

  60. dela g says:

    yay kim jones!

  61. Nedro says:

A’s defense looks like Keystone cops…!

  62. Pat D says:

    Gardner’s best throw ever.

  63. Cy Pettitte says:

BG FTW, glad Andruw wasn’t out there.

  64. jon says:

    gardy with the nice throw

  65. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    Gardy with a canon there

  66. dela g says:

    kouzmanoff… what an idiot

  67. Kit says:

That was a great throw, Brett. More of those.

  68. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

    Nice throw, Gardy.

  69. Nedro says:

    That was comedy.

  70. Mike Axisa says:

    Nice effort Kouz.

  71. jon says:

    lol nice job swish

  72. first time lawng time says:

All that for a toe? Sheesh suck it up and be a man, Russell,

at least it was big toe, but still,

    • bonestock94 says:

Smashing my big toe was 90% as painful as breaking my leg in two places. Shockingly painful.

      • Pat D says:

I’ve had a bad history with ingrown toenails on both of my big toes. Obviously not nearly as bad as your experience, but those are plenty painful, I can assure you.

        • bonestock94 says:

I believe it. My toe didn’t break but I lost the nail and had some nasty bruising. Really sucked.

          • Pat D says:

Yea, the last time I had one cut out, the nail eventually fell out. I once had an operation that was supposed to kill the nail, but it didn’t totally work because I still had the problems.

            • Mike Axisa says:

One of my college roommates was a big time skier, but he used to wear his boots super tight, like two sizes too small. Needless to say, he had ingrown toe nail problems on his big toes, and that shit was naaaaasty.

      • first time lawng time says:

        Yeah. I didn’t know that.

But these baseball players whine about the littlest things (in general not Martin) and it’s so annoying.

        1. They’re men
        2. They play baseball. That’s not physically demanding. Unless they are pitchers (maybe catchers) I don’t want to hear it.

I guy on TB, in game 7 vs the Bruins, he shattered his nose, but he went back out there and played his heart out in a losing effort.

        • bonestock94 says:

Eh, disagree. They probably play with stuff that would shelve regular people for weeks.

        • Pat D says:

Well, he couldn’t shatter his nose again after it was already shattered. So he wasn’t really putting himself at further risk, other than the fact that hockey is brutally violent to begin with.

        • V says:

Do you know how hard it is to hit a baseball?

Watch the difference between ARod when his mechanics are on vs. when they are off. It’s -hard- to hit a baseball.

A hurt player can have his balance, his mechanics, his bat speed, etc., off. And being off a fraction of a second on your swing = crappy hitter. Much better to sit and get healthy than to ‘man up’ and hurt your team in the long run.

  73. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    Oh, Swish…

  74. Hummingbird S. says:

    good time for a K

  75. Pat D says:

Ken, if it takes him that long to get to 3000, he’ll be hitting about .225!!!!

  76. Hummingbird S. says:

damn, that wasn’t a bad pitch..

  77. first time lawng time says:

    No más, Freddy.

    Their offense isn’t even good.

  78. Cy Pettitte says:

what the hell is going on in the A’s stands? all kinds of bells and whistles and cow bells, lol.

  79. FIPster Doofus says:

    Trivia answer = Tom Hanks

  80. dela g says:

    the a’s fans suck

  81. Hummingbird S. says:

we’re blooping them to death.. I like it

  82. Cy Pettitte says:

too many bloops, this team’s offense can’t be built around the bloop.

  83. dela g says:

great to see the babip gods on our side

  84. NHYankeesFan says:

Does Brett Anderson only throw breaking balls?

  85. FIPster Doofus says:

    Bloody hell, Swish

  86. Pat D says:

When will Girardi realize Gardner can’t bunt?

  87. Mike Axisa says:

A squueze play? How incredibly stupid. That’s on Gardner, that pitch was right down the middle. He has to get the bunt down.

  88. Hummingbird S. says:

    really awesome play guys..

  89. jon says:

    fucking gardner

how does he not know how to bunt

  90. V says:

Way to go, guys. Dumb squeeze attempt, bat bunt.

  91. Griffey's Grotequely Swollen Jaw says:

the squeeze? are we the Padres now? do we not score runs that we need the squeeze.

  92. ArchStanton says:

Girardi is a moron. Gardner can’t bunt. Enough!

  93. BigTimeBartolo says:

Enough with the fucking bunting Girardi. Such a moron. Terrible execution by Gardner and Swish. Just stupid

  94. Cy Pettitte says:

lol Jeter’s hits are so entertaining.

  95. bonestock94 says:

    Girardi + Sluggers = ???

  96. Jeter manages to get another bum fuck hit

  97. Xstar7 says:

The BABIP gods are on Jeter’s side today.

  98. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

I missed the squeeze play. Can somebody please give me the run down on what happened?

    • FIPster Doofus says:

Gardner missed a very buntable pitch and Swisher got thrown out trying to get back to third.

      • dalelama says:

Maybe Swisher will pull his head out of his ass soon. It wasn’t a suicide squeeze so he shouldn’t have gotten picked off. He has given away two outs already.

  99. NHYankeesFan says:

Great luck by Jeter today. If only the Yankees werent so willing to give the A’s free outs

  100. David N says:

Better to find out that doesn’t work now than against the Red Sox, I guess….

Really trying to find the silver lining in a squeeze bunt early against the A’s.

  101. Erica says:

    Obsessed with Jeter’s hits tonight.

  102. Nedro says:

Lol that was fucking hilarious! Why was noone on 2nd?

  103. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

    Granderson makes me hard.

  104. Cy Pettitte says:

    Granderson is unstoppable

  105. David N says:

And Grandy makes them pay. The man is a beast.

  106. Mike Axisa says:

Curtis Granderson has had enough of this bunting bullshit.

  107. Xstar7 says:

The Grandyman Can! I love this guy!

  108. NHYankeesFan says:

Give Grandy the key to the city

  109. Erica says:

    GRANDERSON FOR PRESIDENT

  110. Jose Bautista isn’t letting me post MVP chants, damnit.

  111. FIPster Doofus says:

    Grandy = elite.

  112. Carl says:

    QUACK! QUACK QUACK QUACK!!

  113. Halladay/Lee/Hamels/Oswalt says:

GRANDY!! Love to see the really nice guys do well

  114. Nedro says:

    I am so loving this.

  115. Jetrer says:

See, 2 runs, bunting always works.

    \sarcasm

  116. BigTimeBartolo says:

I love Grandy so much it hurts sometimes. Thank you for making up for Girardi/Garner’s ineptitude

  117. V says:

Thank you Granderson. 2nd place in my roto league. Only ‘untouchable’ player on my team – not even for Bautista (because I’m a homer ;-) ).

  118. CBean says:

Granderson is the best thing to happen to my fantasy team.

  119. Esteban says:

granderson is so fucking god. Incredible what he does against lefties now

  120. Pat D says:

What was the trivia question? I see the answer as Tom Hanks, but I missed the question both times.

  121. Hummingbird S. says:

comon ump… that was clearly a strike. Kzone seems a lot smaller for Freddy

  122. Cy Pettitte says:

    Jeter #range

  123. Xstar7 says:

Jeter has so much range. He probably wouldn’t have thrown out Ellis anyway.

  124. Mike Axisa says:

They really need a real shortstop and soon.

    • Esteban says:

Stats said Jeter’s been just below average on defense. -.3 UZR and -1DRS

      • CP says:

Stop it with the facts, this is the Internet.

        • Esteban says:

Yeah, RAB is very Saber-friendly, except when it’s not, and you have to use your eyes. Maybe a ‘real’ SS gets that specific ball, but if you believe in defensive stats, then you can’t say Jeter’s been bad this year. And both UZR and DRS agree, so I would put at least a little credence into the numbers.

          • V says:

Except even proponents of UZR et. al. say the data takes forever to stabilize (it may take 3+ seasons).

            • Esteban says:

That’s probably true, but UZR has been used here (though less lately, I think) and not always with the 3 year caveat.

              But Jeter’s last 4 UZRs are (going backwards from 2011-2008) are -.3, -.4.7, 6.4, -.3)
              Last 4 DRS are -1, -13, 2, -9.

Based on that (and yes, it’s not unlikely that Jeter’s gotten worse as a fielder as he’s gotten older) Jeter doesn’t seem to grade as a terrible fielder in the last few seasons.

  125. Jetrer says:

    Jeter showing the range

  126. Pat D says:

Garcia’s throwing a few too many pitches now.

  127. BigTimeBartolo says:

The sculptor that made the statue of Jeter in the field is really good…

  128. Stratman9652 says:

Jim Joyce has a pretty awesome mustache.

  129. Xstar7 says:

C’mon Freddy. Just get one more out.

  130. Hummingbird S. says:

it hasnt been pretty, but the results are good so far

  131. Brazilian Fan says:

If Jeter’s contract looks this bad this year imagine at the end

  132. Mike Axisa says:

Robinson Cano just murdered a baseball.

  133. Xstar7 says:

    ROBBIE CANO! DONTCHA KNOW?

  134. dela g says:

    Cano! Don’t Cha Know!

  135. Cy Pettitte says:

    Robbie obliterated that, monster shot.

  136. Jetrer says:

That was an absolute bomb, don’t cha know

  137. Cuso says:

    Doncha know baby

  138. BigTimeBartolo says:

    Absolutely crushed.

  139. Esteban says:

    Ribbinson styled after that huh?

Oh and people say the Yankees can’t hit (evil) homeruns against good pitchers, right?

  140. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

The Yankees always seem to hit the A’s “good” young pitchers well.

  141. Xstar7 says:

Andruw is doing his best Reggie Jackson impressions.

  142. jon says:

    i love jones style

swing as hard as you can incase you make contact

  143. Foghorn Leghorn says:

    Robby showing the grit!

  144. Evan in NYC says:

Gotta love Jones, dude is just looking to destroy the ball with every swing. More often than not he comes up empty, but it’s not for a lack of effort.

  145. David N says:

It would appear that playing at The Big O has aroused the Yankees offense.

  146. Cy Pettitte says:

After Jones retires he can go on the road and do a Gallagher style show smashing things with his bat for our entertainment.

  147. Brazilian Fan says:

    Can we make a pool?

Do we prefer to score runs on homers or suicide squeezes?

    I prefer a good ol’bunt

    sarcasm on

  148. Xstar7 says:

DAMMIT FREDDY! NOBODY TOLD YOU THAT YOU COULD PITCH TO THE SCORE!

  149. Hummingbird S. says:

Comon Freddy, at least 2 more innings..

  150. Cy Pettitte says:

    Freddy….oh well

  151. V says:

Pitching to the score, bay-bee ;-)

  152. Brazilian Fan says:

    freddie is toast?

  153. Jetrer says:

need to take him out now

  154. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

Oh Freddy. don’t make us go to the bullpen early.

  155. Charles says:

Ok freddy has his 3 run quota, now for some shut down baseball…

  156. TheLastClown says:

Gosh I’m lovin’ the the Big Apple Bringin’ In Pain!

  157. Freddy's Mom says:

Anybody else about fed up with MLB Game Day? Yet another game I can’t even listen to.

  158. Carl says:

Gets the next three batters after that scare of a homer.

  159. Xstar7 says:

How is Elvus Andrus not up there with the league leaders in infield hits?

  160. FIPster Doofus says:

    He’s so locked in.

  161. dela g says:

    granderson is on fire

  162. Xstar7 says:

    Granderson just keeps hitting. Wow.

  163. Cy Pettitte says:

    Lefties should just IBB Curtis

  164. NHYankeesFan says:

Its truly amazing how great he’s been against lefties this year

  165. Stratman9652 says:

To say Granderson is good at baseball might be the understatement of the year.

  166. David N says:

    WHY ISN’T GRANDY BUNTING?!?!?!?!?!?!

  167. Cy Pettitte says:

    double steal, yay

  168. Xstar7 says:

    Double steals FTW

  169. Rob says:

It’s unbelieveable that just a year ago it was accepted that grandy could not hit lefties. I hope that never happens again, as long as he is a yankee, at least. yea for a double steal

  170. NHYankeesFan says:

Im liking these double steals lately

  171. Pat D says:

Who was that Cone said blew out his patella tendon?

  172. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

Love being aggressive on the bases.

  173. MikeD says:

Isn’t that sixteen or seventeen straight for Jeter? Maybe he should be helping Gardner, who in fairness has improved of late.

  174. Cy Pettitte says:

ARod will set this up for a Freddy -> Pendleton night.

  175. jon says:

lets hope the rules from 2009 about IBB to teix are still true

  176. Stratman9652 says:

I love it when they walk Tex to get to A-Rod.

  177. Cy Pettitte says:

    heart you ARod

  178. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    Booooooooooo. I wanted a slam.

    /inlovewithhomers

  179. David N says:

Alex making the IBB look a bit less smart.

  180. Xstar7 says:

When will they ever learn not to IBB Teixeira to load the bases for A-Rod? Hopefully never.

  181. Carl says:

Yeah, it’s not a salami. Don’t care. I’ll take it.

  182. Esteban says:

This is great but where’s A-Rod’s power?

    /Debbie downer whiner who’s never happy’d

  183. BigTimeBartolo says:

    Brett Anderson is blown, haha

  184. Freddy's Mom says:

Well, this West Coast business is looking a little better now.

  185. Greg says:

Looks like the offense is starting to wake up on a consistent basis

  186. Cy Pettitte says:

    oh man that was hilarious.

  187. Hummingbird S. says:

    clutch K by Robbie..

  188. Esteban says:

Uh oh that might get a Yankee hit.

  189. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    Most productive K ever

  190. Xstar7 says:

Weird way to score a run, but I’ll take it.

  191. FIPster Doofus says:

hahaha the A’s are so bad.

  192. Stratman9652 says:

There is no way to describe that play without the word “cluster” in it.

  193. bonestock94 says:

    Oh, brilliant play by tex

  194. Carl says:

    HOLY SHITBALLS!!!!

  195. CBean says:

Oh now i’m just embarassed for the A’s.

  196. MikeD says:

Girardi seems to be trying to channel the spirit of Billy Martin tonight with a suicide squeeze(attempt) and now this. Got lucky on that one.

  197. swishers fauxhawk says:

That hilarious sequence overshadowed Cano’s wonky plate discipline.

  198. David N says:

At first I was pissed, then I was happy.

  199. BigTimeBartolo says:

  203. Greg says:

    Hello!

  204. Pat D says:

    Damn!

  205. Cy Pettitte says:

    lmao at Bartolo

    that was sick by Freddy

  206. bonestock94 says:

    Epic

  207. Xstar7 says:

Freddy just earned his Pinstripes on that play.

  208. swishers fauxhawk says:

Freddy getting through 7 would be miraculous.

  209. MikeD says:

While waiting for the top of the next inning, quick question. Where is Cito Culver? Extended Spring Training? And if so, why?

  210. CMP says:

I think that ball hit Freddy in the chest and came out through his back. He gave up some ropes that inning.

  211. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

If Freddy didn’t catch that, it was around the head/neck area.

  212. Xstar7 says:

Did anyone else just see Bartolo try to eat the Camera? lmfao

  213. Greg says:

Michael “Its gone from bad to…” Wuertz is on the mound

The tiqiq.com script has some kind of infinite loop. Had to block it.

lol, ARod is the guy that pushes over women and children during a fire drill

  216. Pat D says:

Conor Jackson is having a rough night.

  217. MikeD says:

This is kinda comical with the A’s tonight. A’s, even the Yankees.

  218. Cy Pettitte says:

the A’s defense is hilariously inept

  219. V says:

    So…

    1) Pineda, 5 IP, 3 hits, 5 walks, 5 Ks, 3 ER.
    2) Felix, 7 IP, 6 hits, 5 walks, 4 Ks, 4 ER.
    3) Vargas, 3 IP, 5 hits, 4 walks, 1 K, 6 ER.
    4) Cahill, 6.2 IP, 4 hits, 5 walks, 2 Ks, 4 ER.
    5) Anderson, 5.1 IP, 11 hits, 3 walks, 3 Ks, 9 ER.

If it weren’t for the pitching in games 1 and 2, this would be shaping up to be an -awesome- road trip, despite the ‘zOMG awesome pitching’ they’re facing.

    • Xstar7 says:

They still have to face Gio Gonzalez, Jered Weaver, and Dan Haren. Let’s see how the Yankees do against them before we call this an awesome road trip. I’m not looking forward to that Weaver start.

  220. Mister Delaware says:

Anyone else stuck with the Oakland feed? Its like if Paul O’Neill were broadcasting with David Cone, but neither were funny or knowledgeable or entertaining.

    • MikeD says:

What are you on? MLBN TV or computer? Who are their announcers?

      • Mister Delaware says:

Extra Innings package. Internet says Duane Kuiper’s brother and the guy Pete Rose blasted in the ASG. They alternate between boring and not funny.

        • Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

Isn’t Duane Kuiper the Giants announcer?

        • MikeD says:

I used to have Extra Innings, but now have the MLB online package. You can switch between broadcast teams. I don’t live out of market, though, so Extra Innings might be better in that situation.

Ray Fosse. Haven’t heard him broadcast a game.

          • Mister Delaware says:

I’m not savvy enough to run my laptop through my television (nor energetic enough to move the laptop around when I go from couch to bed) so I just deal with Extra Innings. Usually its ok, but west coast trip plus not close game plus these guys equals me whining. (And, as someone who gets to deal with Jerry Remy for atleast 19 games times 9 innings minimum per year, I’m accustomed to suck. These guys suck and bore. I think that’s worse.)

    • Stratman9652 says:

I don’t know if you are listening to the radio or tv Oakland broadcasters but I found the radio guys to be quite enjoyable. Both were very knowledgeable, called the game adequately, and were rather unbiased.

      • Mister Delaware says:

Television. Basically, you can make three categories of announcers, good (Scully), actively bad (Harrelson) and “why am I still awake” boring like these guys. I’d be watching the non-HD YES feed if RCN gave me that option tonight.

  221. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

So, Mike is there going to be a full recap today? I can’t think of anything to say besides the offense and Freddy.

  222. MikeD says:

    Oblique injury.

All injuries this year are now oblique related.

  223. swishers fauxhawk says:

    Yay Freddy.

  224. Jetrer says:

Well, Freddy didn’t look very good but I’ll take 3ER in 7 every time. Too bad he can’t face this offense every game.

  225. MikeD says:

BTW Anyone else having problems today getting to the comments section here on RAB? I could get to the main page, but when I clicked on comments, the page would hang waiting for the ad to load.

Maybe it’s question/note for Mike A, just in case RAB made any server/code changes today. Generally speaking, if I’m having a problem getting to the comments other people probably are too. IT problems rarely impact one person.

  226. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    Willingham got Overstock.com Colosseum’d

  227. swishers fauxhawk says:

Put a nice bow tie on this one.

  228. Ben from Stanford says:

Hey guys, how did you block the tiqiq.com script in Chrome (or other browser)?

  229. M-Three says:

Well, looks like the mop-up guy Ayala is now in to pitch in the only situation he knows how: low pressure. I really wish that Feliciano never got hurt in spring training because then this guy wouldn’t have made the team. I really get the same sick feeling I had watching Chan Ho Park last year when Ayala pitches no matter what the score is.

    • Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

I’m guessing you are not a big fan of Ayala

      • M-Three says:

I am really not. To me, Ayala is just another one of these guys like hawkins, park or tomko were when I watch the guy he really doesn’t give me confidence as a fan unless we have a large lead like tonight. At some point I really believe that he is going to revert back to being the Luis Ayala of 2008/2009 and be one of the guys that get remove from the team as guy like Hughes, Soriano and maybe Feliciano return.

        • Mister Delaware says:

Its not really fair to give him that treatment until he earns it. To date, he’s done his job and anecdotally, or whatever you want to label me watching games as, he looks like he could be pretty effective in certain (right handed hitters standing at the plate) situations.

          • M-Three says:

I am not labeling you as anything. Just to me, Ayala looks pretty hittable and I have no faith in him in close, late game situations.

            • Mister Delaware says:

I didn’t mean you, I just meant the word “anecdotally” probably isn’t a perfect fit. It was side tangent. Usually I’m pretty good at making them parenthetical.

    • Mister Delaware says:

I think he’d make quite the nice ROOGY.

      • M-Three says:

What does roogy even mean? I get confused when some of you use thes kind of terms.

        • Mister Delaware says:

LOOGY is “Lefty One Out GuY” / lefty specialist. ROOGY is just the flip, although teams seem to avoid them under the logic of “everyone is righty so we’ll just pick one”.

          • M-Three says:

Ok, thanks for informing me. I really don’t pay attention to some of these online baseball terms that a lot of you use but its good to finally know what they mean.

            • Mister Delaware says:

Fangraphs is really good with the definitions and, if you’re a poop reader (male), Baseball Between the Numbers is a solid read even if you don’t agree with every chapter.

      • M-Three says:

If that means that he is a situational righty then I find that hard to believe considering righties hit .260 off him in his career and .368 this year

        • Mister Delaware says:

Right, but the flip. He’s a right who, because of his 2 seam, kills lefties. So a ROOGY in that he does the situational lefty kill, just from the right side. In the absence of an actual lefty, teams tend to pick their best righty rather than the righty who might be most effective.

  230. MikeD says:

I was almost rooting for a Nunez error there just of the humor of it all.

  231. MikeD says:

Nice game. Road trip turning better. Of course, there’s a part of me that keeps thinking we could be 5-0 on this trip, or no worse than 4-1, but that’s baseball.
