Open Thread: Aaron BOONE!

Game 51: Save us CC, you're our only hope
SWB backs Phelps with ninth inning rally

That one doesn’t need an introduction. It’s probably the best individual Yankees moment of my lifetime, and Boone will never have to buy himself dinner in New York again. Here is your open thread for the night. The ESPN Sunday Night Game features the Reds at the Braves (Cueto vs. Jurrjens), but talk about whatever your want. Have at it.

At least they had the good sense to use the raido broadcast rather than what might be Joe Buck’s worst call ever (and that’s saying a lot, of course).

    • Xstar7

No kidding. He was pulling hard for his Rehd Sawx.

    • swishers fauxhawk

Meh, I actually thought it was one of Buck’s better calls.

      • Pat D

What, him saying “That might send the Yankees to the World Series” with zero passion in his voice?

        • swishers fauxhawk

Please. Even Buck’s voice cracked a little, which is rare for him.

          He isn’t all that awful.

          • http://www.retire21.org Mike R. – Retire 21

When your best defense for a guy is “He isn’t all that awful.”. That’s pretty bad.

            • Xstar7

              lol

          • Pat D

No it did not, and yes he is.

For further proof of this, find a clip of The Helmet Catch.

    • JobaWockeeZ

The Tyree catch call as worse.

      • Pat D

        Yes, I cited this above.

And yet the best thing Aaron Boone ever did for the Yankees might not have been this home run but getting his ACL hurt in a pick up basketball game

      Aaron Boone: True Yankee™

  • http://riveraveblues.com/2010/02/2010-preseason-top-30-prospects-21281/#comment-779224 LET SBGL BACK ON BRACKMAN’S DEBUT

this moment occurred when I was seven years old. i woke up the following morning, turned on sportscenter right away, and saw that HR with Sterling’s call.

i became a true fan right there. thank you, aaron boone.

    • mbonzo

I was twice your age, but the homerun really sparked the beginning of my hardcore Yankee fandom.

    • Esteban

Wow 7 in 2003, means you were born in 1996. Makes me feel old at 23.

  • Mikey D

    Goosebumps still to this day…

  • mbonzo

The Yankees did decent this weekend considering their pitching matchups. Despite the 2 loses, I’m happy the Yankees were in each game and didn’t let Pineda and Felix shut them out. This week is gonna be very interesting, with some great pitching. I hope these late starts are worth staying in for.

    • Monteroisdinero

2 of the next 3 are day games.

      • mbonzo

Thats a relief but half the games in the next 6 will be at 10pm.

  • CP

I was at home watching this game and my dog started scratching at the door to go out about the 8th inning. I put it off as long as I could, and finally tried to sneak out in the middle of the 11th. Needless to say, I picked the wrong time to take her out – I was coming back and about 2 houses from home when I heard people cheering.

    • Xstar7

      That really sucks

    • JimAbbottFan

I sorta had the opposite of that situation. Basically, I was out the whole day and turned the game on at the exact moment Boone hit the HR. I had no idea what was going on, but it was awesome.

    • special kid

u have to do what u have to do

  • C. Roy

Is it just me or did the Yankee’s bring back Kanekoa Teixiera? I saw Mike Ashmore retweet something about it but haven’t seen it anywhere else.

  • http://www.twitter.com/deanezag Zack

So Dusty Baker wants length from Cueto tonight? Over/Under: 130 pitches

    • http://www.retire21.org Mike R. – Retire 21

Why would he throw less than 130 pitches? He’s a starter!

      Sincerely,

      D. Baker

  • JobaWockeeZ

Wow ZMac threw back to back no hitters in AAA? Yanks sold low…

      wait, what?

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

      He did no such thing.

      • JobaWockeeZ

Last time I rely on MLBTR comments to be right…

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

Axisa, why do you hate Jurrjens and why did you compare him to Edwin Jackson?

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

      Stuff > results

In fairness, Jurrjens has been awesome this year.

      • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

What was wrong with ’08 and ’09?

      • Brian

Do you think the Yankees will make a play for Jackson this offseason? And would he require a Burnett type deal? He’s a 4 WAR pitcher in his prime so I doubt he will come cheap.

    • special kid

      they are the same

      • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

        No, just, no.

  • Xstar7

Martin Prado just put the Braves in front.

  • Brian

    SSS fun
    Matt Joyce has a 25 LD% and a wRC+ over two hundred
Nick Swisher has a 23 LD% and a wRC+ in the low seventies

  • iloveyoubartolo

    Valverde is just pathetic.

  • Xstar7

    Yay, the Red Sox lost.

  • Gonzo

Things I thought I thought I would never see going into June.
Beckett has a lower WHIP and ERA than Mo.

    • China Joe

He also leads Mo in douchey facial hair

  • Craig

Where does CC land on best free agent signings by the Yankees?

  • CMP

Joe Buck is just horrible. I think the highlight of his career is when Artie Lange destroyed his HBO talk show on its opening night,

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pj8y2Oi1lFk

Total payback for doing the Yankees wrong all these years.

    • Xstar7

Artie Lange was definitely drunk. That being said, he completely destroyed Joe Buck and his show.
