Phelps dominant in Scranton win

By

Dellin Betances got some love in this week’s Prospect Hot Sheet, being named the sixth hottest prospect in the minors. The High-A Tampa Yankees have the fourth worst record in all of the minor leagues (coming into tonight), so yeah, they’ve been pretty bad. Sorry for the short recap, but it’s been a long day…

  • Triple-A won. David Phelps was the story of the night, he struck out seven and allowed just four baserunners (one hit, one walk, two hit batters) in six scoreless innings. Dan Brewer drew three walks after coming up for Kevin Russo, and Chris Dickerson picked up three hits. Jesus Montero singled in four at bats, and almost everyone else had at least one hit as well.
  • High-A Tampa lost again, their 15th in the last 17 games. DeAngelo Mack and Emerson Landoni each singled, but everyone else in the lineup took a big fat 0-fer. Jose Ramirez gave up five runs in four innings, his fourth straight disaster start.
  • Both Double-A Trenton and Low-A Charleston are still playing, and are only in the middle innings. Click the links to go to the box scores to see what’s happening.

Update: Both Slade Heathcott and Rob Segedin homered, so hooray for that.

    what happened to monteros power????

  2. NJ_Andy says:

He learned that HRs kill rallies, and so decided to follow in thesteps of Ichiro: curtailing his power to ensure a high average.

  3. Will F. says:

Heathcott homered. Yay! I’m not too worried about Montero’s power. At least he’s hitting for average and not selling out for power. It will come. I’m wondering how long they can keep Montero down in AAA though.

  4. Nick says:

I think Montero’s lack of power can be at least partially attributed to him not seeing alot of pitches to hit. I have to imagine most pitchers look at the SWB lineup and think “I’m not going to let a top-5 prospect beat me. I’ll take my chances with Kevin Russo and Eduardo Nunez.”

  5. parmesan says:

How’s Mikey O’Brien’s stuff? Is he legit? 41 k’s to 8 walks (5.13 SO/BB) in 31.2 IP is pretty nice.

  6. Andrew Brotherton says:

Seriously please promote Heathcott/Murphy/Segedin/Flores to Tampa. That team is awful, historically awful, and has no prospects.

    • “That team is awful, historically awful, and has no prospects.”

File under: Terrible reasons to promote prospects.

    • Tom Swift says:

Anyone want to speculate why the Tampa team is so bad? Did we just have a bad draft one year? Also, that Mesa kid has sure hit a wall in AA. Too bad.

      • katesogreat says:

They can’t hit. The balls they do hit go right to fielders. They dont hit balls in the gaps or up the middle or down the line. Just routine groundballs and easy flyouts or popups.

  7. pat says:

My main man Cojo 1-3 with a 3b 1 RBI and 2 BB. STUD

    • Samuel says:

Good stick, good eye, smooth swing with deceptive power, but no glove, no range and not smooth on double plays.

  8. T-Dubs says:

Jose Ramirez is strug-a-ling. Holy hell.

  9. katesogreat says:

The Tampa Yankees aren’t historically awful. They have won the FSL championships the past 2 years. They are seriously lacking though when it comes to prospects and I say promote them all up here. I am sick of witnessing losses.

  10. Any concern that Heathcott’s hot start is due to the fact that he is repeating the level?
