Soriano’s elbow still barking, going to see doctor tomorrow
ByVia Marc Carig, Rafael Soriano had his bullpen session cut short this afternoon and will go see the team doctor tomorrow after continuing to experience pain/soreness/stiffness/inflammation/whatever in his twice-surgically repaired elbow. Meanwhile, he also threw the offense under the bus after the game and said he may take a week or two off at the behest of senior vice president Felix Lopez.
A disabled list stint seems inevitable, but be honest, how many of you will miss him?

How often is does a pitcher’s elbow “bark” without the trip to the doctor ending in TJS?
There’s a lot of possibilities for what it could be, with a wide range of return times. Tommy John is only necessary for a small portion of elbow problems. It just gets a lot more attention because the recovery time is so much longer than anything else.
And if he does need Tommy John, his career is probably over. He’s had it once before, and very few pitchers recover from it a second time.
Looks like money well spent , the only thing worse than his elbow is his attitude ! Maybe he’s the one the Yankees should release after all he want’s to be “the Closer”
Why he wasn’t put on the DL to start with….Also, with Boston holding a two run lead, Posada comes up….with Tampa holding a one run lead, Jorge doesn’t come up….Gardner to strike out. I’m also surprised that he wasn’t told to pop up another bunt. Girardi should go, but, they still have two more years to pay.
maybe Randy Levine can call for a meeting with Soriano.
So your saying it was a bad move to let the team assume all of the risk? I’m not sure i’m following…
I swear to god, let Cashman make all of the moves from now on. Other particular people coughrandlylevincough, are FUCKING MORONS and don’t have the qualifications to have input in baseball ops
Cashman’s done plenty of fucking up on his own without any help from Levine.
They should both go and hire Andrew Friedman for GM after the season.
The first half of this is gratuitous, and the second half is just dumb.
I’d love to see what kind of job Andrew Friedman could do with all the Yankee resources at his disposal after the great job he’s done in Tampa.
Its really wonderful organic apples versus much cheaper, pesticide laced apples. Would a guy with Zobrist’s history ever get 600 PAs with the Yanks? Pena? Jaso? The benefits of money is never having to risk a position on guys like that. The downside is never realizing the results > expectations when a guy like that blows up.
I’d like to see him win five championships–hell, one championship. If you can’t do a “great job” after inheriting a club that finishes last and drafts first for twelve straight years, and snatches Kazmir for his non-sucky years, something’s wrong with you. First place on May 16th means diddly.
Drafting Price and Longo was a stoke of genius.
theyre 2 different gigs. the rays are allowed to rebuild. the yankees arent.
Wasn’t it Levine who signed AJ to his contract?
No, I believe that was Cashman.
If a guy with AJ’s peripherals were available this offseason, we’d all (very justifiably) be screaming the Yanks should sign him. Bad results does not equal bad process.
Like I said yesterday, quite beating around the bush and get him TJ. Hopefully he’ll be ready for 2013.
didnt he already have it?
Let’s destroy Randy Levine.
All I can say is: “LOL”
We need to trade for TJ Clippard.
/halfserious’d
Cashman gave up Michael Dunn and he is one of the best lefty relievers in the game now. Also the 20 year old kid righty they gave up in the Vazquez trade is going to be a number one starter.
He does not know how to value talent either.
Go sign Dave Dombrowski as GM and we need a new manager also.
6.1 bb/9 Lets see how long he lasts “being one of the best lefty relievers in the game”
Yeah, but the draft pick they got for Vazquez is going to be a higher #1 starter than “the 20 year old kid righty”.
So I take it you don’t believe the B’s will buck the trend.
Soriano basically destroyed all his goodwill with the fans. You don’t throw your offense under the bus. You haven’t been playing too well yourself buddy.

too wellyourself buddy.ftfy
Call Pendleton up.
What a dick.
This is the first sensible comment I’ve seen in this thread.
This isn’t the shit hitting the fan. This is a shit powered diarrhea Gatling gun.
Still laughing my ass off at this one.
That’s hysterical.
I miss Chopper too.
Awesome, This contract signing gets better and better. Fuck Randy Levine.
meanwhile, he also threw the offense under the bus after the game
Obviously the offense is struggling, but I laugh at the thought of Soriano opening his mouth to say this. Not sure a newcomer in the pen who has blown games, walked out on the media, and sat injured has any right to start pointing fingers. Regardless of whether or not he’s right.
More clubhouse drama is the last thing I want to read about.
P.S. I hope Mo canes him.
What a fucking jackass, this guy really has balls.
Someone needs to punch Soriano in the face. Not like it will affect him anyway since he’s gonna be on the DL. What a prick, I fucking hate this guy
Goodbye, Rafael. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out. Actually, I hope it slams into your elbow.
what do you mean goodbye? hes here thru ’13.
wow he really “threw the offense under the bus?”
I think it’s just your bias acting up again, mike. that’s not what I heard from him
Rafael Soriano, a man that has pretty much sucked it up in the bullpen and hasn’t even been with the team for two months, said that he doesn’t think the team’s problems are the fault of the bullpen – he said they are the fault of the hitters. That is definitely throwing the offense under a bus. A guy like Derek Jeter wouldn’t single out a group of players on the team. Jeter would have sais that “we need to play better” or “we looked bad out there”, showing that the team is supposed to be one unit (well, I guess with these Yankees, the 24 other guys besides Rafael Soriano are supposed to be one unit).
well he’s 100% right on the money. the truth can be cold and unpleasant, deal with it. most people here are only sensitive to this comment because they’ve been rooting against this guy ever since he was signed. deal with it
and the quote in question was referring to the team’s recent 6 game losing streak specifically
That’s actually dead on. It may not be effectively rooting against the guy because that would imply rooting against the Yankees, but there’s a lot of nastiness directed at him.
It’s not his fault somebody in the organization gave him that ridiculous deal.
During Today’s Conference call Derek Jeter spent 25 minutes saying “Rafael Soriano and then he and Posada burst into school girl like giggles.”
I think you missed your end quote by quite a bit.
that quote doesnt even make sense… who is the “he”… and who is he talking to?
so confused.
Sick of this tool bag already.
Yankees brass expect to get notification that reads “Rafael Soriano would like to exercise his player option”
Both of them!
If he has surgery, I wonder if he’ll exercise his player options.
/sarcasm’d
Shut him down for a month. Maybe with rest he can deliver some value over the second half.
Perhaps Hughes could take the setup role again with Sorryassano’s laziness/ineffectiveness/general dickheadedness?
we’re all frustrated with him, but “sorryassano”? really?
that gives “reach” a whole new meaning.
I tried lol
soriano should donate all his salary for a good cause, then kill himself.
Rafael Soriano is Spanish for Ed Whitson.
it’s funny, soriano is kind of the RAB bizarro javy vazquez, the guy who struggles, but everybody roots against. I still think he’ll turn it around
Speaking of relievers any Pedro Feliciano sightings?
I liked the pre-edit closing line better, Mike.
ditto.
What was it?
Well, um…
at least he isn’t Vin Mazzaro right?
somebody should tell soriano to start waving the pom-pom’s instead of giving an honest answer the next time he’s asked why the team’s been going through a 6-game losing streak
Red Sox with the walk-off, at least we are still better than the Orioles, amiright.
soriano a non cashman move. the jeter overpay ditto. arod insane overpay ditto.
why don’t the fat crew cut steiny and levine loser ever listen to cashman???
can they play any worse.. arod in the 240′s and lost. tex the next big hit after the hit against minny in the playoffs a few years ago will be his first.
jeter “what more do I need to say” on his stellar and clutch performance…..
hillbilly spit the bit tonight, shocker huh… listen to leiter and others think aj was pitcheing so good.. his era is 3.99.. how low is our bar for good pitching……..
both steinbrenners are just brats who would rather watch horse racing than baseball. please sell the team to someone who cares.
I hate you Randy levine. If you become GM somehow I’m turning into the Mets.
I’d rather have Omar instead of you. Thanks for nothing.
make some moves this story is getting old and tired already….
hey good news gardner did not get caought stealing tonight.
more good news jeter did not get out on 1 pitch again.
more good news nunez only committed 1 throwing error.
What did Kyle Farnesworth 2.0 say that he threw the team under the bus? I didn’t pick up on anything???
Paraphrasing, but he said it doesn’t bother him that he hasn’t played lately since the offense hasn’t been in a position to win anyway.
really though, in this case I think Levine should get what he’s always wanted more than anything. I think Randy Levine should get ALL THE CREDIT for the Soriano signing. In fact his full name should now be Rafael Signed by Randy Levine Soriano
soriano is just another steve karsay. a fine job by the FO.
Bravo Randy, bravo.
