Bernie Williams to make first Old Timers’ Day appearance

By

Via Peter Botte, Bernie Williams will make his first Old Timers’ Day appearance this year on June 26th. Bernie’s been back to the Stadium a few times since unofficially retiring, specifically the final game at the Old Stadium, but this will be his first as an Old Timer. It’s always fun whenever former great makes his first appearance at the event, so I’m excited. Bernie was probably my favorite player during the dynasty years.

  1. In a related story, all the pitchers scheduled to attend Old Timers’ Day have called the Yankees and told the club they won’t be attending anymore.

Nobody wants to cross Feared Williams.

  4. Xstar7 says:

Forget Carlos Beltran, let’s resign Bernie. He’ll get all those clutch hits we’ve been missing when Johnny and Hideki left.

  5. Brian says:

Williams was my favorite player for a while. Then it was Alfonso (back when I was a kid batting average was the shit). After that it was Matsui. I bet Matsui will be a future Old Timer but will Alfonso?

  6. Drew says:

I hope Andy is there. Mussina came back the year after he retired so I don’t see why Andy shouldn’t be there.

So Lou Piniella and now Bernie have been announced to make their first appearances. That’s cool. Did I also hear previously Torre will be there?

It would be nice for Andy Pettitte to be there.

Has Scott Brosius ever come back? He’ll always be appreciated by the Yankee faithful, but I can’t remember if he’s ever been there.

Oh, and it would be nice for Tony Kubek to come back, but I know that’s not happening.

  8. Ubu says:

joe torre will be there, right? Pinella, first time as well.

  9. bobtaco says:

Will Bernie be retiring before playing in the game?

  10. Gerald Williams says:

BERN BABY BERN! My all-time fave!

  11. Mel Hall says:

Give Mr. Zero my best. I’d like to be there, but I seem to be detained for the next 43 years or so.
