Hey Mike, hopefully you’re around to settle a debate I had with a friend today.
I know I’m getting ahead of things, but assuming Joba won’t be back until July of next year at the earliest, do the Yanks tender him/offer arbitration this off season?
I said no, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s gone. Just that they have to work out a 2 year deal where one year is below market. My buddy thinks I’m nuts, they have to pay him in arb and not risk losing him. What do you think?
I say pay him in Arb. He probably would make about what he’s making now. Thats a small price for the Yankees to pay to avoid losing him. The already fucked up by non tendering Aceves, no need to do that with Joba just to save 1-2M.
I can’t fault them on Ace. They tried over and over again to get his back healthy, and time after time he had setbacks. Then he breaks a collarbone in the off season. Their position was perfectly reasonable, it just hasn’t worked out so far.
BTW-They may still be right on Ace, his back may go out again. Though considering how little Boston paid for him there’s no doubt he’s been a bargain already.

I wouldn’t say that about Whelan and Pendleton. I’ll let Whelan go because today was his first game in the bigs, and probably felt 1st-Game pressure. Pendleton, well, he just needs to bounce back in a big way, because he did good the first time he was called up from AAA this year. As for Sanit, not even SWB Beat writer Donnie Collins thinks this guy should be in the bigs.

Why did they send Noesi down? He’s twice as good as the trash that pitched in that 9th inning. We need quality arms in the pen and he’s one of them.
He’ll be back. He pitched five innings against the Red Sox, so they needed a fresher arm. Noesi wouldn’t be avialable for a few days. He’ll be back once he’s availble for return.
Because he won’t be able to pitch for like 4 more days.
He’s pretty much still on a five day rotation because technically he is a AAA starter. He threw about 6 inning a couple days ago so he wouldn’t be much use.
