  1. Zooboy says:

    Fist pump. Followed by tears.

  2. Mike Myers says:

The red sox fans were really subdued at the game last night. I guess all this winning is making them slightly less bitter asses.

  3. Win it for Joba.

“I don’t know where I’ll be then, Doc,” he said… “but I won’t smell too good, that’s for sure.”

  4. swishers fauxhawk says:

O/U: Swinging strikes for Nova tonight: 3.5

  5. Esteban says:

We’ve lost a lot of good men out there.

  6. Mike Myers says:

I was just thinking…whos team is hurt more sox (dice k) or Yanks (Joba)?

5th starter has to be worth more than a 7th inning guy right?

    • TheLastClown says:

Maybe in a vacuum. Given the SP environment on the Sox & the relief environment on the Yanks, there’s a lot more negative space created by Joba going down than ‘Zaka.

      IMO

    • CP says:

How are the Soc hurt by losing Dice-K? Any replacement is going to be better than him.

    • S says:

but that starter was dice k, they could put a cardboard cutout, and it do a better job than dice k

      • Mike Myers says:

I see what you guys mean…but its a long season. Lacky sucks and Wake is 150 years old. It might end up being a bigger deal for them in the dog days with nagging injuries.

      • CMP says:

I agree. It’s like if AJ got hurt.

The old Addition by subtraction theory.

  7. JobaWockeeZ says:

How about win it and don’t die down after the first inning homer?

  8. Mickey Scheister says:

I’m taking the weekend off from Yankee baseball. I’m enjoying haunted Savannah, but go bombers! One comment, why the F was the Dick sent down, and why is Cervelli still in the Bronx, doesn’t he belong in Trenton or the GCL?!!? Call up teh Jesus!!! That is all, go NYY!!!

  9. Brian says:

I could barely sleep after that seventh inning last night. Come on Nova, we need a win today.

  10. Cy Pettitte says:

can the media stop talking about Banuelos/Betances coming up? that would be a disaster.

    • Pat D says:

Of course they can’t. And why should they? After all, it’s been done before.

That is the lasting impact of Joba ’07.

  11. Xstar7 says:

HE’S OUR JESUS AND WE WANT HIM NOW! Seriously, when is Montero going to get called up? I can hardly wait.

    • CBean says:

honestly i realise that is defense is sub-par but cervelli’s is as well. I’d rather have the one that can hit.

  12. MikeD says:

I’m sorry, but my back is to the TV and I just heard from Michael Kay that it’s Jorge Posada bobble head night, “and it’s a dirty one.”

    No additional comment.

  13. Esteban says:

    Calling it, Nova perfect game.

  14. MikeD says:

Who was that man on the mound?

  15. Pat D says:

At least no rain delay today. The rain delay threads seem to develop unpleasantness since we talk about other stuff.

  16. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

Probably the best inning Nova will ever pitch.

  17. Xstar7 says:

Did Ivan Nova just miss a bat? I thought he couldn’t do that.

  18. TheLastClown says:

    And swinging strike counter….1!

  19. AnthonyNH says:

Why can’t Nova always look this good?

  20. Cy Pettitte says:

This is why I don’t understand Noesi not being in the line up. Everyone admits Nova is essentially a 2 pitch pitcher. Nova should be in the pen or in AAA developing his change. He seems like he’s in this no man’s land right now where he isn’t developing anymore and isn’t getting (great) results.

  21. TheLastClown says:

    Effin’ Fausto.

I can’t look at him and not remember Andy outdueling him in ’07, only to have the swarm snatch the game away.

    • Pat D says:

      Blame John Kruk.

      • TheLastClown says:

Sometimes I’d love to be inside Paulie’s head.

I imagine he occasionally has Homer Simpson-esque visions of funny cartoons and delicious foodstuffs dancing around to silent-film-era music.

  22. AnthonyNH says:

Jeter against the sinker. How can this not be a ground ball to short?

  23. thaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

ok, lets see Carmona hasnt won since may….1 and 3 on the road…over 5 era…indians are 4 and 11 in their last 15…all that adds up to a 17 to 0 2 hit shut out for Carmona and the indians

  24. BigBlueAL says:

Did Michael Kay just say that the Yankees have drawn the fewest walks in the league?? That cant be right.

  25. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    Santana puled a Cervelli there

  26. Cy Pettitte says:

did they trade Cervelli to the Indians before the game?

  27. Xstar7 says:

    Maybe it’s not just Cervelli?

  28. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

Carlos Santana wasn’t very “Smooth” on that one.

    Rimshot, plesae.

  29. Esteban says:

See! See! Cervelli’s not the only one that does it. Indians fans are saying “DFA Carlos Santana NOW!”

  30. Mike Axisa says:

Kay: “The Yankees have the fewest walks in the AL.”

Axisa: “The have the highest walk rate in baseball. They have fewer walks because they’ve been rained out more than anyone else.”

    I win.

  31. Operation Slade says:

So did anyone else hear that Papi blamed the media for him being hit by a pitch last night? I mean yeah the media made it known but come on Papi your pitcher had already hit two yankees which made it five hit in the series, add in your bat flip and its quite clear why you were hit. Blame Beckett.

  32. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

Bases juiced. I bet Robbie pops up to Youkilis.

  33. BigBlueAL says:

Tim Belcher, best known for giving up a grand slam to Canseco in the 1988 WS that almost broke a TV camera and for giving up Leyritz’ walk-off in Game 2 of the 1995 ALDS and being mad about it after the game.

  34. Cy Pettitte says:

Watch Robbie swing at the 1st pitch

  35. Mike Axisa says:

I fucking swear, if Cano swings at the first pitch…

  36. CMP says:

Watch Cano swing at the first pitch against a totally wild pitcher.

  37. Xstar7 says:

Whatever you do Cano, DONT SWING AT THE FIRST PITCH!

  38. IRF says:

Here we go. First pitch swinging

  39. BigBlueAL says:

Odds that Cano swings at the 1st pitch despite Carmona walking 3 of first 4 batters??

  40. CMP says:

Must be a full moon. Cano didn’t swing.

  41. thaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

Bottom line is The Yanks got swept back to back series at home since the 1920′s…hitting Ortiz was not enough…they looked like bitches the entire series

    • MikeD says:

The Yankees got swept back to back series at home against all teams, or against the Red Sox?

Either way, the 1920s were a pretty good decade for the Yankees, so it may not mean much.

      • Pat D says:

They were .500 in World Series play.

And they let the Senators (the Senators!) take their rightful place in the World Series twice!

        Clearly they didn’t do enough.

  42. CBean says:

okay if we can’t score lots of runs after 3 walks in an inning I will…probably not be surprised at this point.

    /dejected

  43. TheLastClown says:

    Robbie taking painful swings.

  44. thaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

there you go Robbie, swing at all of the balls out of the zone so you can ground into a dp and bail out yet another pitcher

  45. Kevin says:

    double play im calling it

  46. Esteban says:

    RISPwin

  47. Cy Pettitte says:

    Teix is slow as shit

  48. Pat D says:

Oh, jeez, now I remember that Kenny can’t say Choo’s name.

  49. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

    “Sin So Cho” LOL Kenny

  50. TheLastClown says:

    Woot

  51. first time lawng time says:

Does Cleveland’s BP still suck? I especially enjoyed watching Sipp vs Robbie last year. I think it was 2 GS? =)

  52. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

I hope Kay doesnt pimp Choo’s arm like he pimped Bautista’s.

  53. CMP says:

I’m not used to seeing a right fielder who can throw. Choo has a gun.

  54. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

Should have held Tex at third. Now they’re not set up for the grand slam :(

  55. Esteban says:

Woohoo. 1-1 2 RBIs with bases loaded so far. M

  56. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

2 runs without an evil homerun

  57. CBean says:

    woo two runs!

  58. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

    Winning, duh.

  59. TheLastClown says:

    Hip fucking hip.

  60. Xstar7 says:

    HE’S NOT DEAD YET

  61. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

Hip Hip closer to the Mendoza line!

  62. Esteban says:

Lots of people (Indians fans) were calling KLaw an idiot and much worse things because he didn’t think the Indians were that good. I wonder what those people are saying now.

  63. first time lawng time says:

So. I have already decided like 10 hours ago that I’m already over that game last night and the entire series!

Now, I went to bed during the second inning last night, so I’m happy I didn’t stay up late to see that fiasco, but I read the recap and it still stung.

Buuuut, I did post an interesting fact: the Yankees only suck vs Boston.

Yeah that’s frustrating, but it’s only one team.

Like I said, I am already over it!

  64. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

    40 pitches, yeesh.

  65. Mike Axisa says:

    40 pitches already.

  66. TheLastClown says:

Kenny quoting *sort of* Oscar Wilde…

  67. swishers fauxhawk says:

    40 pitches after 1?

    #Pat likes this.

  68. Sheepmeister says:

the 40 pitches in the first inning is a sign that the yankees will now allow carmona to go 7 innings and no more runs.

  69. Esteban says:

Would people be upset if Posada started hitting well again because that would likely delay Jesus’ arrival?

    • first time lawng time says:

      I wouldn’t.

I love Jorge and always want him to succeed.

And even if he continued to suck, there’s no guarantee Jesus would come up.

  70. first time lawng time says:

    40 pitch 1st inning. Nice.

I swear, though, if that guy goes into the 7th….

    I’ll be a bit pissed. I’ll be honest. That’s how I’d feel.

  71. Xstar7 says:

    Happy Birthday Ken

  72. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

Wow Cervelli’s practice throw went into CF too.

  73. CMP says:

Fucking Cervelli even throws it into CF on his practice throw.

  74. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

Jorge’s figurine is batting lefty, yet his right hand is on top of his left hand in his follow through. How did nobody notice this?

  75. BigBlueAL says:

How long has Ken Singelton been announcing Yankee games?? mid-90′s??

  76. Mike Axisa says:

Apparently threw the warm-up throw into center field between innings.

  77. Pat D says:

How do they talk about Choo’s slow start and not mention that the player himself said he feels distracted by his DUI arrest?

  78. Dear Ken Singleton:

You are awesome at everything. We love you. Don’t change.

… except for “Soo”. It’s pronounced like “Sue”, not like “So”. There’s two “o”s in there.

    Thanks,
    Everyone

  79. CMP says:

    Mike did you email Kay?

  80. Pat D says:

I’m never comfortable with the phrase “retired (X) Indians.”

  81. IRF says:

Its kind of crazy how Ken Singleton was an OBP machine back in the day, yet he doesn’t seem to understand the importance of it at all.

  82. TheLastClown says:

    Academecian.

  83. CMP says:

Didn’t Hanahan get the memo that Jeters supposed to get 3000 at home?

  84. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

HE GONE. YOU CAN PUT IN ON THE BOOOAAAAARDDDD. MERCY!

  85. TheLastClown says:

    NINETEEEEEEEEEN.

  86. thaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

    grandy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  87. Mike Axisa says:

    Love you, Curtis.

  88. MikeD says:

    I want IPK back!

    /wrong’d thread

  89. Pat D says:

    HERE IT GOES!!!!!!

  90. thaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

yeah come on!!! stand up yankeees!!!!!

  91. DCBX says:

    Yet another Grander-slam!

  92. aRX says:

I don’t advocate violence or want the suspensions, but y’all can go ahead and fuck this punk bitch up if you want….what the FUCK.

  93. The Fallen Phoenix says:

    Holy Crap.

  94. Esteban says:

FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT! I feel like a 6th grader.

  95. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

I love when bullpens empty. Somebody needs to make a YouTube compilation of just bullpens emptying.

  96. TheLastClown says:

And we all thought it would happen v. Boston.

  97. Operation Slade says:

    Shits gonna happen

  98. thaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

    we needed this against Boston

  99. CMP says:

They shoulda did this against Boston.

  100. Bitch ass. Bush league. What a fucking douchetard.

  101. Xstar7 says:

That was definitely intentional. Fuck you Carmona.

  102. Esteban says:

Was Girardi fiery enough there for the haters?

  103. IRF says:

    I heart non-violent brawls

  104. James A says:

Loving the fire from Girardi there. This is a 4 game series, buckle up everybody

  105. Cy Pettitte says:

that is some serious fucking bullshit

  106. BigBlueAL says:

    Fucking Armando Benitez Jr.

  107. CMP says:

Does Nova get tossed or warned if he drills someone next inning?

  108. Frank says:

This could be exactly what this team needs to get them out of their funk.

  109. thaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

I love the fact that Giradi got in his face! lets wake the effff UP

  110. DCBX says:

Damn watching on Gamecast. A bunch of milling about and cussing, I gather? No Nyjer Morgan stompings?

  111. aRX says:

The benches have been warned? WARNED?!?! How the FUCK is Carmona still in the game????

    • Delaware - Ralph says:

Carmona being tossed might be addition by subtraction for the Indians right now, but I see your point

  112. BigBlueAL says:

    Arod is no Tim Raines.

  113. Stratman9652 says:

So the Yankees are probably not so interested in Carmona now eh?

  114. IRF says:

Nova isn’t afraid to throw at anybody

  115. Cy Pettitte says:

how do you NOT eject Carmona? he clearly went head hunting after giving up a HR

  116. aRX says:

In lieu of a physical beatdown, I now humbly request 3 matching 15-1 ass-whippings. You can win Monday’s game by just 6 if you want.

  117. Guy Montag says:

Carmona should have been immediately tossed from the ballgame. That was clearly intentional and right at the head. Now if we retaliate we’re gone. That ain’t fair.

  118. Slappy White says:

God , I wanted to see Girardi smack Acta

  119. James A says:

I hope nova doesn’t hit anyone, it would break up his perfect game

  120. special kid says:

fking outrageous! nova please bean santana in the head! teach them a FKING lesson

  121. Pat D says:

I’ve got nothing against Manny Acta and he has to defend his player, but, jeez, he should have known what had happened in his opponent’s last series and realize that they wouldn’t take kindly to getting hit.

    • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

I have no beef with Acta either. In fact I kind of respect him in some ways, but I agree, just talk to Carmona and get off the field.

    • Cy Pettitte says:

he’s a douche for getting in Girardi’s face. The Yankees had every right to be mad considering how it went down, regardless of what happened with the Sox.

  122. Xstar7 says:

That looked like the A-Rod of old.

  123. Monteroisdinero says:

After a 72 hour coma, the patient has awakened!

  124. craig says:

And that is why you drill a few hitters in the RS series. You get a reputation for being a bunch of wusses who won’t retaliate and he can be pushed around and then you get Tex hit again.

  125. TheLastClown says:

    Dammit. Sorry Esteban.

  126. Xstar7 says:

    There goes the perfect game

  127. MikeD says:

Dust one on his last batter.

  128. Monteroisdinero says:

    Nova-el hombre!

  129. JimAbbottFan says:

Teixera is a powder keg at this point. One more HBP and I can see Teix ripping the arms off the pitcher and using them to bludgeon him to death.

  130. special kid says:

teix is a strong guy but hes not ripping carmona’s arms off, get real.

  131. James A says:

You know how in the NBA you can get a flagrant 2 and immediately ejected if you just take someone out and the refs think it was intentional, regardless of what had happened beforehand
Why wasn’t that a flagrant 2 on Carmona, everyone in the Stadium knew that was on purpose

  132. BigBlueAL says:

    Joba the philosopher.

  133. IRF says:

Oh good, Joba’s dad thinks he can recover quickly

  134. MikeD says:

Maybe Joba tore the ligament in 2008, and they only just discovered it now. After surgery, he’ll be tossing 110.

    Okay, probably not.

  135. Xstar7 says:

    Jorge is on FIYAH

  136. You know who’s gonna get retribution for Tex?

Bartolo Colon, tomorrow. It makes sense on so many levels.

  137. MikeD says:

Posada’s OBP since May 1 is now right about .400. Power still not there.

  138. mike c says:

    posada’s back

  139. Stratman9652 says:

Kinda glad they didn’t toss Carmona.

  140. special kid says:

no sorry, dont be too much fanboy. do you see carmona is built like a tank? teix has the body of a soldier? tell me whats stronger a tank or a soldier

  141. Esteban says:

Is this Posada’s dead cat bounce?

  142. Xstar7 says:

Off the bat I thought that was gone. Oh well.

  143. Cy Pettitte says:

    yay Brett

  144. IRF says:

Everything this inning has been crushed

  145. mike c says:

so is posada a hall of famer or what? every catcher with a career OPS of .850 has made the HOF, with the exceptions of mauer and piazza

  146. Cy Pettitte says:

    Chad Durbin lol

  147. James A says:

I just looked on baseball reference, I didn’t realize that Orlando Cabrera has 1,999 hits in his career. Obviously nowhere near as significant as Jeter, but 2,000 is a lot of hits

  148. Cy Pettitte says:

now would be a good time for 2991 Jeter

  149. special kid says:

just to let you bandwagon ppl know – old people are stronger where the weather is hot. notice were entering summer and jeter+posada+arod are getting better.

  150. Esteban says:

    Choo is some defender.

  151. Ryan says:

Wallace Matthews just blocked me on Twitter because I said, “Are you always this dopey or do you play it up on twitter?”

    I thought he was a New Yorker…

  152. Esteban says:

Are they still doing Celebriducks? I want a Posada celebriduck.

  153. special kid says:

whos the 8th inning guy now?

  154. Steve S. says:

Hey Mike, hopefully you’re around to settle a debate I had with a friend today.

I know I’m getting ahead of things, but assuming Joba won’t be back until July of next year at the earliest, do the Yanks tender him/offer arbitration this off season?

I said no, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s gone. Just that they have to work out a 2 year deal where one year is below market. My buddy thinks I’m nuts, they have to pay him in arb and not risk losing him. What do you think?

    • Jetrer says:

I say pay him in Arb. He probably would make about what he’s making now. Thats a small price for the Yankees to pay to avoid losing him. The already fucked up by non tendering Aceves, no need to do that with Joba just to save 1-2M.

      • Steve S. says:

I can’t fault them on Ace. They tried over and over again to get his back healthy, and time after time he had setbacks. Then he breaks a collarbone in the off season. Their position was perfectly reasonable, it just hasn’t worked out so far.

BTW-They may still be right on Ace, his back may go out again. Though considering how little Boston paid for him there’s no doubt he’s been a bargain already.

        • Jetrer says:

not saying Ace didn’t carry risk, but all he would have cost was about 450K and a roster spot. He was certainly worth that risk.

          • Steve S. says:

I agree. Considering how little he went for, it seemed odd. I’m just saying I know why they felt he was a bad risk. I guess they didn’t even want to waste a spot on the 40 man.

    • Mike Axisa says:

I think they’ll just work out a one year deal before arbitration. The Yankees don’t do extensions, and I can’t imagine they’d guarantee him a second year while he’s injured.

  155. CMP says:

I got ass dribble once on a vacation in Mexico.

  156. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

    Ground balls EVERYWHERE!!!

  157. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

Holy shit I left for a little while and the benches cleared? What happened?

  158. craig says:

I guess Fausto sort of ruined his chances of the Yankees making a move for him, right? Just saying…

    • Esteban says:

After seeing this game, I don’t know if the Yankees would really be too interested in Carmona.

      • Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

After seeing this game season, I don’t know if the Yankees would really be too interested in Carmona.

  159. special kid says:

there will be a brawl soon. i can sense it.

  160. Yan says:

    Win it for Joba?

How about win it for the Fans?
kinda sucked waking up and going to work today, Yankee haters were out full force.

  161. CMP says:

Tex should homer and then just walk around the bases.

  162. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

Holy fuck shit balls that was FAR.

  163. Cy Pettitte says:

    suck it douche

ARod should blow Carmona a kiss

  164. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    that was cruuuuuuuuuuushed

  165. James A says:

Does Cano get hit now? Because if so, its on like Donkey Kong

  166. Xstar7 says:

    A-Rod absolutely destroyed that one!

  167. thaaaaaaayankeeswin says:

    hollllly shit

  168. Esteban says:

    Holy shit, what a shot.

Hey Carmons, how ’bout dem apples?

  169. mike c says:

I don’t remember ever seeing one go to the LF bleachers

  170. swishers fauxhawk says:

    Centaurian.

  171. Monteroisdinero says:

Cano swinging at the first pitch is fine when the score is 6-0 us.

Good work Robbie-just don’t do it when we are down 6-0.

    /that will never happen again

  172. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

Wasn’t Branyan’s into the 3rd deck longer than that?

  173. James A says:

Russell Branyan and Raul Ibanez have both hit longer I think, but that was in the 440-455 range

  174. Xstar7 says:

Michael Kay is telling the bat day story, AGAIN.

    • Stratman9652 says:

To be fair, there probably are people out there who don’t obsessively follow the Yankees like some of us do, who wouldn’t remember him telling that story.

But yeah Micheal, get new material.

  175. first time lawng time says:

So I scrolled up and saw something about BP clearing…recap please?

  176. TheLastClown says:

I had to duck out for a while…how’d the 5th run come across?

And has anyone been keeping track of swinging strikes?

  177. Jay h says:

    And we complain about rispfail…

  178. Orlando Cabrera has a unibrow, despite not actually having hair between his eyebrows.

    It’s mind-bottling.

  179. James A says:

Kay should realize he’s sitting next to two guys who both have over 2,000 hits themselves

  180. DCBX says:

Man those fenceposts look good, put up a couple more! :)

  181. Esteban says:

Wow, that video of Bernie from 2004 looks like it’s 20 years old.

  182. dkidd says:

posada now has a higher ops than jeter

    laugh or cry?

  183. The Fallen Phoenix says:

Let me fix that for you, Paul: “if you look at one thing Ivan Nova has not done well so far this year, it’s pitch.”

  184. Pat D says:

Acta just crushed my hopes and dreams.

  185. Steve S. says:

Hughes makes his first rehab start Tuesday, which begs a question. Hughes is ready, looks healthy, velocity is back and is pitching well again.

Whose spot in the rotation does he take, Garcia or Nova?

  186. Cy Pettitte says:

    Jorge STOP GOING FOR TWO/THREE

  187. Monteroisdinero says:

Nova gets out of it. Muy bien. The kid continues his long ascent.

  188. Pat D says:

Jorge is the worst base-runner since Fred Merkle.

  189. MikeD says:

Jorge’s been doing great, but he has to remember he’s Jorge Posada, not Brett Gardner.

  190. Esteban says:

    PoLOLSada

  191. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

If it wasnt 6-1 I’d be pissed at Jorge

  192. Xstar7 says:

Jorge with more terrible base-running. He bets a free pass this time though.

  193. dalelama should be here any minute to complain about Jorge Posada, Worst Baserunner Ever.

  194. first time lawng time says:

Naturally I’d say, “bench his ass!”. But he been good this game, so whatevs.

  195. Stratman9652 says:

Dear Jorge, your figurine is faster.

    That is all.

  196. Monteroisdinero says:

Jorge finds quicksand on the basepaths but 3 hits in one game! Nice.

  197. James A says:

YSIII homers over 450 feet so far according to hit tracker
    A-Rod (5/19/10): http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play......id=8151477
    Robbie Cano (6/16/10): http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play......id=9056573
    Russ Branyan (7/2/09): http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play......id=5373771
    Raul Ibanez (5/22/09): http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play......id=4680345

I think A-Rod joined the list again today

  198. MikeD says:

Gardner breaks wrist of young teenager, who would have been a future Yankee HOF pitcher. A shame.

  199. Xstar7 says:

Brett Gardner finally using his speed.

  200. Monteroisdinero says:

gardy gets there without a head first slide at first. Abandon that please.

  201. Crime Dog says:

So we’re still at the point in the season where one 3 for 3 day can raise an average 20 points along with the OBP and SLG. So, one or two hot weeks from Posada can pick up that BA/OBP/SLG to a respectable rate.

    • CP says:

I don’t think you can expect Posada to get his stat line back to his career norm for the season because he started so poorly. I’ll be very happy if he can just match his career line from here on out.

  202. Cy Pettitte says:

yay Brett. don’t think just run.

  203. Esteban says:

Sure, now you run Gardner. Unclutch baserunner.

  204. Xstar7 says:

Two stolen bases in one inning by Gardner? Mind-bottling.

  205. Watching that Centerstage ad… Michael Kay doesn’t just have a big head, he’s a big dude in general. Very stocky.

I don’t know if he’s built more like a tank or like a soldier, but he’s a large man one way or the other.

  206. CP says:

Who is this pitcher, and what has he done with Ivan Nova?

    • Monteroisdinero says:

It is possible that a 24 year old pitcher in his first year as a starter in NY can improve over the course of a few months. He has alot of mentors on the roster.

  207. The Fallen Phoenix says:

Pretty sure Michael Kay is an aircraft carrier.

  208. Eh, Santana’s pretty awesome, I’m not too mad at that.

  209. Cy Pettitte says:

Glad Curtis is coming out of the mini-slump

  210. Xstar7 says:

Granderson says FU to his slump.

  211. CP says:

Did the statue of Jorge crap his pants?

  212. Esteban says:

    Oops Posada crapped himself.

  213. Monteroisdinero says:

Let’s get some more here so Austin Kearns can’t tie it with a pinch hit grand slam.

  214. Crime Dog says:

Posada’s bobblehead has a little mustard on the pants

  215. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    WHAT AROD???? You didn’t homer?????

  216. MikeD says:

We don’t talk about these things, Paul.

BTW The best team didn’t win.

  217. Pat D says:

So if they were going to make a realistic Tim Raines figurine like Posada’s, would there be a white stain on the back pocket?

The answer is, of course not, because he slid head first.

  218. Cy Pettitte says:

    eww Robbie

  219. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    2 Cervellis for Santana today.

  220. the tenth inning stretch says:

About time that happened in our favor.

  221. jerrynyg says:

Glad to see some other team’s catcher throwing the ball into the outfield for a change.

  222. Xstar7 says:

Glad the run came home but that was an awful swing by Cano. When will he ever learn to take a walk?

  223. CMP says:

I hope they get a huge lead so they can bring in a scrub from the bullpen to drill someone. I vote for Logan. He’s useless anyway.

  224. Xstar7 says:

    So what if it’s raining

  225. jerrynyg says:

When Boston is in town they can bean our hitters with impunity and rain can delay a game 3.5 hours. When Cleveland comes the benches clear and they say “What tarp?”

  226. Johnny Bench is making a comeback!

Must be because the weather is heating up.

    • Pat D says:

He wants to show Buster Posey how to block the plate.

    • Xstar7 says:

Chris Chambliss too! We can relive the 1976 World Series!

      • Pat D says:

Why the hell would you want to?

        • Xstar7 says:

Yeah, I probably should have thought about that one.

        • MikeD says:

Yeah, really. Reliving the 1976 World Series is worse than reliving the 2003 World Series. Both had fantastic entries, but bad endings. At least the 1976 team lost to a better team in the Big Red Machine. The 2003 Marlins? Ugh.

          • Pat D says:

I think I’m the only person who finds The Big Red Machine to be overrated.

            • Xstar7 says:

Joe Morgan begs to differ. The guy said that the 1998 Yankees would only take ONE game from The Big Red Machine is a seven game series.

              • MikeD says:

Ha. He also said only two 1998 Yankees (Bernie and Jeter) would start on the his team. From a positional stand point he’s not entirely wrong (although I’d take O’Neill over Griffey Sr. and Tino during his peak years was as good as Perez at first, although not for his career). But the starting pitching, bench and bullpen are all better.

He more likely had it backwards. The Big Red Machine would probably only take one game from 1998 Yankees.

            • MikeD says:

Overrated is a term that’s difficult to quantify. It’s personal. On one level I agree. They were a great team, but their press clippings exceed the reality.

The Yankees 1996-2001 were better, and no Big Red Machine edition was better than the 1998 Yankees.

              • Pat D says:

                Yep.

The Reds just didn’t have good enough pitching.

And the 1998 Yankees certainly had good enough pitching to shut down their lineup.

  227. Jetrer says:

Cervelli looked very dainty with that tag

  228. Cy Pettitte says:

    Whelan in the 9th please

  229. JobaWockeeZ says:

I shed a tear for some reason.

Justin Maxwell grabbed a bat from his locker in his left hand, walked over to Jesus Montero’s locker, and dropped it in.

The Yankees’ young phenom always liked this particular bat, Maxwell reasoned, and this was the last chance he would have to give it to him.

    http://thetimes-tribune.com/sp.....z1OvVQDJcn

  230. JobaWockeeZ says:

Wait why do people want retaliation? Who got hit?

  231. CMP says:

I don’t think it’s a good idea bringing in Logan to face all those lefties.

  232. Pat D says:

OK, trailer for X-Men: First Class where they said “certified fresh?” Are that many people even aware of what that means?

    • CP says:

In general probably not, but it may be a bigger deal to the demographic they’re targeting.

      • Pat D says:

Considering it’s still technically a franchise movie, if their demographic didn’t go see it yet, they probably won’t.

  233. JobaWockeeZ says:

Wait please tell me the Yankees stood up for Teix who didn’t just got plunked once this WEEK but twice?

Like come on do you have to rely on CC to make sure our fucking players don’t die at a faster pace?

  234. Cuso says:

So Posada’s batting average is currently higher than Swisher’s. Wow, just wow.

  235. Esteban says:

Is tonight turn back the clock night?

  236. MikeD says:

That’s a nice hit. I like to see pre-2010 Jeterian hits. Bottle that and bring it back for #3000.

  237. Esteban says:

Ha, awesome line from Mantle about Pete Rose.

  238. Crime Dog says:

I bet tex wants to crack a grand slam about 600 feet right now.

  239. JobaWockeeZ says:

If Teix hits a grand slam I want him to personally stick up his middle finger to the Mythical City Indians.

  240. Cy Pettitte says:

    yay Teix, suck it Cleveland

  241. Xstar7 says:

    RISP fail my ass.

  242. JobaWockeeZ says:

If there’s a close play at the plate Santana is gonna get wrecked…again.

  243. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    Boooooooooo I wanted a slam.

  244. CMP says:

    Take that Carmona.

  245. Esteban says:

Pretty stupid dive. Pour it on. Do it for Joba.

  246. Karl Krawfid says:

They want more O from Santana. So he hits a home run.

Tex hasn’t hit a double. So he hits a double.

    Crazy.

  247. Crime Dog says:

    Alright, lets see Whelan tonight

  248. CP says:

Why did he dive? He was nowhere near that ball.

  249. Esteban says:

These game threads are so much better when the Yankees are winning.

    • MikeD says:

Not only are people in a better move, but it drives the haters out.

    • first time lawng time says:

The Yankees are so much more fun to watch when they’re winning.

      • Esteban says:

Obviously, but the thing is the people that complain about what a terrible team it is and changes need to be made just disappear when the Yankees are winning.

        • first time lawng time says:

Haha yeah. But I think, or at least wouldn’t be surprised, if a lot of those people just come here to vent their frustration. It’s possible they don’t actually think they suck, it’s just heat of the moment comments.

  250. Stratman9652 says:

Let Jorge catch an inning or two. It is his figurine night after all.

  251. jerrynyg says:

I just can’t believe Cano worked a walk!

  252. Monteroisdinero says:

Can Cano walk and Swish get a hit against a righty in the same inning?

  253. first time lawng time says:

I might be wrong, but I think the Yankees have scored more runs this game than thir entire series vs Boston, or at least almost.

It’s amazing how this team can have a nice west coast road trip, beat up good SP, come homes, play like shit against one team, and then look like pros gainst another.

It really is just the RS I think.

    • JobaWockeeZ says:

I might be wrong, but I think the Yankees have scored more runs this game than thir entire series vs Boston, or at least almost.
      Get out of here troll!

    • CP says:

They scored 13 runs against the Red Sox.

The announcers the other night (can’t remember if it was the radio or TV) mentioned that it may just be a matchup thing – the Red Sox lefty hitters match up well with the Yankee righty pitchers. It doesn’t necessarily mean they’re better or worse, just a bad matchup.

      • JobaWockeeZ says:

        13 runs? A success!

      • CMP says:

Let’s get real and call a spade a spade.

The red sox are the better team right now. It’s not the end of the world and it could still swing back in the Yankees favor with some luck and a few good moves but at this point it’s pretty much undeniable.

  254. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    How about a Jorgeslam?

  255. Stratman9652 says:

Haha are they seriously chanting Dickerson’s name?

  256. Cy Pettitte says:

    lmao at Obama

  257. Karl Krawfid says:

    Obama lookalike fail

  258. Pasqua says:

Just watched a replay of the benches clearing. Let it be noted that the Indians bullpen beat Grady Sizemore to the infield. Just sayin’.

  259. Guy Montag says:

In 2009 the Yankees turned their season around when Joe Girardi got his team fired up by getting tossed from a game under the hot sun in Atlanta. In 2011 I think we’ll look back at today’s altercation between Girardi and Manny Acta as a turning point in the season. Girardi showed a lot of heart and pride tonight and that is bound to rub off on his ballclub.

  260. jeffreygomez says:

2009 WS series year was not a good regular season against the Sux…shake it off…

  261. Stratman9652 says:

This is gonna be a pretty long game. Outs please. Or lots and lots of runs. Whichever.

  262. Xstar7 says:

Kevin Whelan is our new 8th inning guy.

  263. Monteroisdinero says:

Nice splitter by Whelan (I think). 84 mph and 92mph fb

  264. CMP says:

It feels like Christmas when they bring up a new player from the farm.

  265. Crime Dog says:

Looks like Whelans got a decent changeup. Didn’t expect that

  266. Cy Pettitte says:

    Cano is so silky smooth

  267. James A says:

That throw is just stupid good from Robbie

  268. ColoYank says:

That Whelan has a funky delivery, I’d say.

  269. jv says:

I thought whelan was a power pitcher…guess not

  270. Jetrer says:

    an inauspicious debut by Whelan

  271. Stratman9652 says:

I’m kinda glad they didn’t test him out in a close game.

  272. Cy Pettitte says:

    woops.

he’s really getting under that fastball, everything is up in the zone or over their head.

  273. jerrynyg says:

Haha they’re going to send him back down tomorrow and never call up another kid again. Nothing but aging veterans for this team!

  274. Karl Krawfid says:

    Cord Phelps?

  275. MikeD says:

Cord. What kind of name is Cord? Is that short for something? Of is he named after a cord of wood?

  276. swishers fauxhawk says:

Now try putting it over the plate

  277. Esteban says:

Cord has to be one of the worst names or nicknames I’ve heard. What’s next, Rope? Twine? String? Hawser? Line?

  278. icebird753 says:

    Well at least he’s unhittable…

  279. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

Sanit? We might need to use Mo and Drob

  280. Cy Pettitte says:

Joe: “smile, give me the ball, and get the fuck out. never come back.”

  281. Kevin Whelan says:

Still haven’t given up a hit in the bigs
    #silverlining

  282. CMP says:

I think Whelan. was a catcher who was converted to pitcher. He could still take Cervelli’s job.

  283. JobaWockeeZ says:

    Still the strongest bullpen ever.

  284. CMP says:

Sanit looks like a dwarf on the mound.

  285. Cy Pettitte says:

Whelan will learn from DRob, it’s ok if you walk 3 guys in a row, just strike out the 4th and all is forgiven.

  286. Monteroisdinero says:

Lose a whale, gain a Whelan.

What a few days its been.

  287. Xstar7 says:

    Cervelli just got BABIP fucked

  288. Greg says:

Looks like we decided to take out all of our frustration on the Cleveland Indians

  289. first time lawng time says:

    http://riveraveblues.com/2011/.....nt-2206313

okay. Special kid is my new favorite commenter.

Just read this and I am still laughing.

  290. first time lawng time says:

    Lol Drob please.

    JK.

    Maybe.

I still haven’t forgotten that game vs Cle last year with Joba

  291. the tenth inning stretch says:

    Singled to death.

  292. Karl Krawfid says:

They are finding out what most already know.

    Sanit sucks.

  293. Cy Pettitte says:

seriously? 3 pitchers to get 6 outs with a 9 run lead?

  294. Xstar7 says:

4 is the magic number for the Indians tonight. 4 straight walks last inning, 4 straight singles this inning, 4 runs scored in the game. This is a SHUTDOWN bullpen by the way

  295. Cuso says:

The soft underbelly of the Yankee Organization exposed.

  296. JohnnyC says:

    This is sad.

  297. MikeD says:

Using too many arms for a blow-out game. Step up, please.

  298. Cy Pettitte says:

why the fuck is Mo up?

  299. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

We better not see a repeat of that Joba game last year

  300. Cy Pettitte says:

seriously? 4 pitchers to get 6 outs with a 9 run lead?

  301. Karl Krawfid says:

    Man this is just embarrassing.

  302. Charles says:

Mo in with a 6 run lead? Uh oh…

  303. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

Fucking wait to use Mo until it’s a save situation!!

    • MikeD says:

Normally, although he really hasn’t pitched much of late. Just end it.

And, yeah, what O’Neill is saying and what I wrote below. He’s sending a message to all these guys that caused this. Step up or you are gone.

  304. Zooboy says:

    Wow. Just wow.

  305. CMP says:

Jeez, this bullpen is gonna be an adventure moving forward.

  306. MikeD says:

Kay has no understanding of the save situation.

Girardi wants to win the game, but he’s also telling this collection of “relievers” you suck.

  307. FreddyGomez says:

I can’t believe they boo’d the kid. Idiots.

  308. Cuso says:

That Mo actually has to come in is ridiculous

  309. JobaWockeeZ says:

    What the fuck.

  310. Crime Dog says:

Why did Ayala get ignore tonight?

    • Cuso says:

because he’s 2nd in the pecking order to D-Rob (believe it or not). Ayala & D-Rob were held back for tomorrow in case it’s a tight game.

  311. JohnnyC says:

You would think that the 4th rated organization in baseball would have a couple of bullpen arms that could get some outs in a 9-run game.

  312. Frank says:

What’s the odds there are more moves made before tomorrow’s game? I say pretty good

  313. Cy Pettitte says:

    this is so embarrassing

  314. the tenth inning stretch says:

Dear sweet Mary, can this game please end already?

  315. Stratman9652 says:

    Outs please.

  316. first time lawng time says:

Okay. Joke’s over, Yanks. It was fiunny, but now it’s not. Time to win.

  317. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    Fuck our bullpen sucks

  318. Foghorn Leghorn says:

what the hell is going on here? is this amatuer hour?

  319. Carl says:

    And it’s finally over.

  320. MikeD says:

Can’t quite say “nice” win after the melt down by the third-tier relievers, but it’s a good win.

  321. Foghorn Leghorn says:

its mo, Drob and a bunch of clowns out there…

  322. CMP says:

Is it too late to ask for Clippard, Dunn and Melancon back?

  323. JobaWockeeZ says:

Curtis hit it to Harlem. LOL.

  324. Zooboy says:

I’d rather have Dickerson than one of either Sanit or Whelan. Would probably prevent more runs as a replacement for Swish in RF in late innings.

  325. MikeD says:

Over/under on an Indian getting hit tomorrow?

    • Guy Montag says:

Bartolo will definitely hit Cabrera tomorrow. And it needs to be done. A 95 MPH fastball right in his back.

    • the tenth inning stretch says:

I’m willing to bet that they don’t. That was a douche move by Carmona but the Yanks had the last laugh, and they’ll let that be their retaliation. I think they’ll let it die unless the Indians hit someone tomorrow.

  326. Stratman9652 says:

I like it when Tex actually speaks his mind instead of rolling out the cliches.

  327. first time lawng time says:

Ummm it was at your back, not your neck, Tex.

At least this guy is honest, though. Jete would probably be like, “IDK why He would throw at me. I guess the itch got away.”

    See? Tex is legit.

I bet thr media is going to hitch and be like omg the Yankees overreacted! Classless bastards?!

  328. Xstar7 says:

Well, whoever said we should trade for K-Rod and Beltran is looking more and more right.

  329. Carl says:

I’m a bit late, but you know the current bullpen is a mess when Mariano has to come in because of something like of what happened with Whelan, Sanit and Pendleton.

    • Foghorn Leghorn says:

Whelan, Sanit and Pendelton sounds like a personal injury law firm..these fucktards have no business wearing pinstripes.

      • Carl says:

I wouldn’t say that about Whelan and Pendleton. I’ll let Whelan go because today was his first game in the bigs, and probably felt 1st-Game pressure. Pendleton, well, he just needs to bounce back in a big way, because he did good the first time he was called up from AAA this year. As for Sanit, not even SWB Beat writer Donnie Collins thinks this guy should be in the bigs.

  330. the tenth inning stretch says:

Now that Whelan’s first-game jitters are outta the way, I’m looking forward to seeing him pitch again.

  331. Guy Montag says:

Why did they send Noesi down? He’s twice as good as the trash that pitched in that 9th inning. We need quality arms in the pen and he’s one of them.

    • MikeD says:

He’ll be back. He pitched five innings against the Red Sox, so they needed a fresher arm. Noesi wouldn’t be avialable for a few days. He’ll be back once he’s availble for return.

    • pat says:

Because he won’t be able to pitch for like 4 more days.

    • Stratman9652 says:

He’s pretty much still on a five day rotation because technically he is a AAA starter. He threw about 6 inning a couple days ago so he wouldn’t be much use.

  332. Foghorn Leghorn says:

I see that Moosecockus debuted tonight for the royals…that’s a great last name.

  333. Foghorn Leghorn says:

i’m just watching the highlights now…missed the entire game..way to go, Girardi..i would like to see him get in Francona’s face…

  334. Onkel Fester says:

I loathe Girardi and I don’t understand why some praise him. Where the hell was he the last 3 days? Red socks treat them like whipping boys, and oh, he gets upset against the Indians? Puhleeze.
