Game 65: Rain

(Photo Credit: Flickr user notladj via Creative Commons license)

It’s raining here in the city, though the forecast seems to indicate that there’s enough of a window to gets tonight’s game in at some point. The Yankees waited until the last possible minute to put Derek Jeter on the disabled list, but no such luck with Russell Martin. He’s still active and hobbled while the bench remains a man short. Anyway, here’s the starting lineup…

Brett Gardner, LF
Curtis Granderson, CF
Mark Teixeira, DH
Alex Rodriguez, 3B
Robinson Cano, 2B
Jorge Posada, 1B
Nick Swisher, RF
Eduardo Nunez, SS
Frankie Cervelli, C

CC Sabathia, SP

Whenever the game starts, you’ll be able to watch it on My9. Enjoy.

Start Time Update: The game will begin at 7:40pm ET. Not bad at all.

  1. Tom Zig says:

Would it be better to have Ramiro Pena play SS than Nunez?

Neither are good hitters, but at least Pena is a bit more sure handed.

    • King George says:

Not just no, but hell no. I think Pena is below average as it is. At least Nunez has a bat. Pena = Cervelli in terms of hitting.

      • King of Fruitless Hypotheticals says:

I can’t see Pena playing SS at all. He’s way too old and I don’t think he ever had the quickness–yeah, he had great footwork but man. This team is desperate.

    • Thomas Cassidy says:

I wouldn’t say Nunez isn’t a good hitter. Is he any worse than Jeter? No. Nunez will be a pretty good hitter when he is developed and isn’t a bad hitter now.

  2. Josh S. says:

I’m sick of seeing Cervelli’s name in the lineup. If Russell Martin can’t play, then put him on the DL and call up Montero already. I think it’s time to see what the kid’s got.

    • Zack D says:

Montero just missed 4 games with an eye infection and 2 games after that. Think putting him against ML pitching after 1-2 games back is a wise choice?

      • Josh S. says:

Even after missing those games, I still think Montero would do better than Cervelli. If Cervelli was better defensively then maybe it’d be a different story. But all around, I think Cerv is garbage.

        • Zack D says:

Oh I hate Cervelli, but IMO it’s not about him. Don’t think it’s a wise decision to throw a 20 year old kid to ML pitchers after he sat out a week just because I hate Cervelli.

    • Epy0n says:

Montero cant catch and has not proven his bat can do work yet as advertised.

      • FIPster Doofus says:

Cervelli can’t catch or hit, so there’s that.

      • Guest says:

Please, look at his numbers as a 20 year old in AAA. I think they make a pretty strong argument that he is ready to do work in the majors.

And his numbers from this year, while down, do nothing to convince me that he has “lost the magic” from last year or whatever. All they do is tell me his power stroke is in a bit of a slump. I have full confidence that its still there.

  3. Pat D says:

Song of the Day: Rolling Stones’ “Memo from Turner.”

Probably a fun karaoke song, since a lot of the lyrics are very insulting and not P.C.

    • FIPster Doofus says:

Memo to Justin Turner: Ryan Zimmerman finally makes his glorious return, so get back on my fantasy team’s bench.

  4. Guy Montag says:

There is no excuse for Cervelli starting yet again when a better option is sitting down in AAA. We can beat Ogando with CC on the mound but we’d be a lot better off with someone at C that can hit and can throw more than 2/20 runners out. Texas loves to run run run, good thing CC is on the mound tonight to negate that.

    • Thomas Cassidy says:

Cervelli throws out 10% of runners? Wow. It seemed a lot lower than that, like 0%. Every ball thrown into CF, it’s the Cervelli way.

      • YankeesJunkie says:

This. Cervelli’s defense is fairly terrible and his offense is non existent. Give Montero a shot Cashman!

        • Thomas Cassidy says:

They either need to call up Montero or trade him. I honestly think he’s fucking bored in AAA. He would be our 3rd best hitter, maybe our 2nd, depending on my mood with Tex (Jason Giambi with a better glove, I’m getting fucking sick of watching this goofy fuck pop up to an infielder). And I can’t stand Cervelli. He is one guy I would love to see shatter his ankle like Jason Kendall. But I liked Kendall.

  5. Brooklyn Ed says:

Cashman on Francesa earlier: a few of the pitchers in the pen shouldn’t be there and that they were suited for “garbage time”. Ouch.

  6. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

I will try not to complain about the 7 8 9 hitters.

    • MannyGeee says:

not in this blog… we’ll be too busy bitching about the 1,3,4,5 & 6 hitter to hear anything about 7-9

  7. tom says:

Is it just me, or does anyone else, when they hear the game is on “My9″, prepare themselves for at least an hour of King of Queens first?

  8. Robert says:

So Posada is playing first in case Cervelli goes down, right? That way they don’t lose the DH. Then Swisher comes in and plays first.

  9. Oh boy says:

Since its raining, what do you guys think of Paulie in the booth? Did anyone catch Kay talking about O’Neil’s phone last night? He said “Most people shave with the razor, not Paul, he calls people”. I though it was funny as hell since O’Neil is the guy who “doesn’t know how to turn a computer on”
Since i got on this subject, how would you guys rate this year’s booth?
I personally like Kenny more and more and Cone is pretty cool in there too. Al is also good I think, all business most of the time.
    Who is your favorite tandem?
    Kay/Kenny is classic
    Flash is boring
Al Liter and Cone any time
    Paulie is ok
Bob was pretty awful on the west coast trip, i think it was Flash and Lorenz for a series, jeez that killed…

    • first time lawng time says:

      Better than last year.

      I like Kay.

      Kenny’s cool.

      Love Paulie

      Love Leiter

      Love Cone

      Hate HATE HATE HATE Flash

Best trio is Kay, Paulie, Leiter. However, I also enjoy Cone and Singleton.

      Paulie is the best, though.

    • Mike HC says:

Big fan of Paul and Cone. Of course, two of the worst broadcasting voices known to man. And Singleton is also a favorite of mine with a good voice.

Kay annoys me, but I work hard to look past that and enjoy what he does do well, which is to get good information and reactions out of his color guys. He also does have a personality, which I guess is better than a drying paint type of guy.

Leiter bores me, and Flash really bores me.

Lorenz is a very solid, if unspectacular, play by play guy. I like him.

    • Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

LOVE whenever Cone/Singleton does a game. They are the best “baseball” announcers in the YES booth

Flaherty/Lorenz is brutal. Lorenz is a bad play by play announcer and is brought down by Flaharty who is even worse.

Kay doesn’t bother me except when he gets really excited about a routine fly ball. He and Kenny and Paul in the booth are great.

I think the best booth YES can have is Kenny/Cone/Leiter. Unfortunately Kenny only does play by play on the west coast and there’s never a 3 man booth on the west coast.

    • bonestock94 says:

I like Kay, Cone, and O’Neill a lot.

  10. first time lawng time says:

Any word on when the game should begin?

  11. Jose the Satirist says:

Mike, should readers be concerned that you have Ben and Joe locked up in your basement? You have to get to page 3 before you get to a post not made by you. Let them out!

  12. Jerome S. says:

I live up in New Fairfield, CT. Usually the weather here is the same as the city. It’s almost sunny! Either this bodes well for the Bronx, or poorly for myself.

  13. first time lawng time says:

Montero should get called up now. Really. I don’t see what everyone is waiting for.

  14. Guest says:

    Is Betances pitching tonight?

  15. Mark Teixeira says:

Do not forget to vote for Mark Teixeira on the All-Star Ballot, he fell behind Adrian Gonzalez today. You can vote up to 25 times per email!!

  16. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

So Crawford got a standing ovation in Tampa. At least Rays fans have more class than Red Sox fans.

    • CP says:

Maybe the ovation was for convincing the Red Sox to give him a contract that could drag down the team in a few years – thus making it easier for the Rays to win.

Or it could be that there are more Red Sox fans than Rays fans at the game.

      • CC's third leg says:

Its just downright disgusting seeing such a solid franchise have such a small fanbase. We should destroy every college football stadium in florida

    • Oh boy says:

maybe they were all RS fans standing

      • Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

No. The cameras showed the crowd and many of the Rays fans were standing up and clapping. Most of the Sox fans shown didn’t even move.

        • MannyGeee says:

they dont know any different. thety never go to Rays games, they mighta thought Crawford still played in Tampa

  17. I saw Blazing Saddles a few nights ago. Life changing, one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen.

  18. Jerome S. says:

I’m making a twitter account for Otto Von Bismarck. Suggestions for first few tweets?

  19. Cy Pettitte says:

how have Texas’ pitchers allowed the most HRs of all AL pitching staffs playing most of their games in the al west? that’s amazing.

  20. cashman failed says:

where is montero? why is cervelli catching everyday? i know why… cuz cashman failed.

  21. Erica says:

  22. CC's third leg says:

Warning: Retaphin does not reduce penis hole pain

  23. Cy Pettitte says:

Yankees apparently signed Brian Gordon from the Phillies minor league system. Cashman making moves

  24. Ivan says:

I see CC Sabathia is wearing the Air Jordan 11′s…nice CC, nice!!!

  25. Cy Pettitte says:

big man is movin’ tonight. lol

  26. 28 this year says:

posada is better than Tex. I saw it with my EYES. Fire Tex!

  27. Erica says:

    Teixada. Poxeira.

  28. first time lawng time says:

Jorge looks so cute at 1B…he has my all star vote.

    JK I don’t actually vote.

  29. Guy Montag says:

Strike 3 right over the plate and he calls it a ball. That was strange.

  30. Pastadivingnunez says:

So the Rangers are not rich enough to getnthat boil drained off organo’s face?

  31. NHYankeesFan says:

CC seems kind of erratic, and this ump seems to have a small zone. but everytime cc has bad control he seems to work through it and do well

  32. Pastadivingnunez says:

Nice CC has the change up working tonight

  33. nsalem says:

I would love to know the velocity of A-Rod’s ground ball hits in relationship to the rest of the human race.

  34. Sheepmeister says:

So brief conspiracy theory, do you think Cash is leaving Montero in AAA so his arb clock doesn’t start so that trading him to a small market team is more palatable without super 2 status.

  35. Pastadivingnunez says:

Can’t wait to see Joes interleague line ups this trip.

  36. MannyGeee says:

    Ugando throwing some heat…

  37. Jerome S. says:

Am liking Alex lately. He seems hot. Too hot…

  38. Xstar7 says:

    Cano = swinging at everything

  39. MannyGeee says:

Ugando’s 98 mph cheddar + Posada’s super slow 40 YO bat = no buenos dias

  40. NHYankeesFan says:

    Jorge = Permanent 1st basemen

  41. Jerome S. says:

Swinging the fuckin’ bat, alright. ninth hitter…

  42. Guy Montag says:

Damn, if the ball doesn’t ricochet A-Rod scores.

  43. Xstar7 says:

Posada isn’t feeling the Montero fever

  44. V says:

I think Jorge now has a .500 batting average in June.

  45. Mike Axisa says:

Nunez and Cervelli are due up next … why even screw around with Swisher here if you’re Texas?

  46. Guy Montag says:

C’mon Nunez. Make Jeter the next Wally Pipp.

  47. NHYankeesFan says:

Call me crazy, but i think Nunez will get a hit here

  48. Pastadivingnunez says:

HD TV is not the waybto look at ogando

  49. Mike Axisa says:

    Too early to pinch hit?

  50. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

Nunez and Cervelli up next, why did they even talk on the mound?

  51. Xstar7 says:

    This Nunez’s moment of truth

  52. The greatest value we ever got from Eduardo Nuñez, is saving Jesus Montero.

  53. Greg says:

    There you go.

  54. Jerome S. says:

  55. Sheepmeister says:

lets see if Cervelli can hit his second grand slam off the rangers this year.

  56. Pastadivingnunez says:

    Nuney !!!!! As joey says

  57. Jetrer says:

    Jeter would have GIDP

  58. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

Yay Nunez. He knew Cervelli was next

  59. King George says:

    Yeah, Pena would GIDP there.

  60. King George says:

I am so stoked that Nunez is doing better this year overall. Defense is a little suspect, but he’s not a bad replacement. Now, Cervelli, on the other hand…

  61. Carl says:

Nice picee of hitting, Nunez. Will need more of that from you for the next several days.

  62. Nefarious says:

I think Cervelli should bunt in this situation

  63. Pastadivingnunez says:

Cervelli worst yankee in 20 years

  64. Mike Axisa says:

    Montero could have done that.

  65. Xstar7 says:

    Cervelli is garbage

  66. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    Hurry back, Russell.

  67. NHYankeesFan says:

That could have been Montero right there

  68. Greg says:

Given the circumstances, we would take one run here.

This is a place where Gardner needs to step up.

  69. King George says:

    Hahahahaha, Cervelli.

  70. Jetrer says:

Is Montero really that terrible defensively, or is Cashman just a complete moron?

  71. Pastadivingnunez says:

This ass needs to stop throwing at us

  72. Mike Axisa says:

    Gardner planned that.

  73. King George says:

Anybody have the stats on Cervelli’s last 7-10 games??

  74. NHYankeesFan says:

    Gardner crushed that

  75. Xstar7 says:

    Jeterian hit by Gardy

  76. Greg says:

Do that some more Brett and I will lay off

  77. MannyGeee says:

    whoooops! Ribbie

  78. King George says:

Brett planned this all along. Duh.

  79. NHYankeesFan says:

    why is it not 3-0?

  80. BadaBling says:

Wouldn’t that have been great, seeing Hey-Zeus in the 9th spot?

  81. Mariano's Pimp Hand says:

  82. Wil Nieves #1 Fan says:

    Can I Has a Granderslam?

  83. Cy Pettitte says:

still don’t understand how Ogando absolutely dominates other lineups

  84. Cy Pettitte says:

    Grandy FTW

  85. Xstar7 says:

    The Grandyman can!

  86. 28 this year says:

why didnt the ump call fielder interference?

  87. Greg says:

  88. Pastadivingnunez says:

    Nooner scores too speed kills

  89. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    No Granderslam????? WHY?!?!?!?

  90. King George says:

    FUCK YEAH, CURTIS!!!!!!!

  91. David N says:

    Grandy for MVP.

  92. TheLastClown says:

Big bad Vlad Curtis in effect.

  93. nsalem says:

    domo arigato mr Ogando

  94. Pastadivingnunez says:

I can see through the pits in this guys face

  95. MannyGeee says:

    CC looks bored

  96. Cy Pettitte says:

    Teix is good at baseball

    loving this game.

  97. Greg says:

    Put them in the bank

  98. TheLastClown says:

    Calling that Teix hater…

  99. David N says:

    Yay Tex.

  100. Xstar7 says:

    Beautiful. I love it Tex.

  101. King George says:

  102. MannyGeee says:

wats up Tex!!!! wasnt some asshold calling him a better fielding Giambi in this thread?

  103. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    don’t know how Ogando’s 7-0 2.11ERA

  104. CBean says:

Grandy, literally the only one on my fantasy team hitting tonight.

  105. David N says:

Alexi Ogando, we hardly knew ye…

  106. Guy Montag says:

What an inning. And tomorrow we get Holland, another guy we crush. I feel even better now about winning the first two.

  107. Karl Krawfid says:

Life with out Jeter is pretty good on the offense side of things.

    Speed baby!

  108. MannyGeee says:

    wow…. 1.2 IP, 6ER. No Buenos Dias.

I kinda hope we get a shot at the Rangers in the ALCS again. that would be a different game.

  109. Foghorn Leghorn says:

Sterling just said that baseball can’t be predicted…twice within the same half inning.

    There you have it.

  110. Pastadivignunez says:

We will sweep texas we have our good luck charm Pena back. He just needs his catwoman costume.

  111. swishers fauxhawk says:

    You can’t predict baseball?

  112. Karl Krawfid says:

    Great swing by Alex.

    Just missed it.

  113. Pastadivignunez says:

Dammed thought it was an Abomb

  114. Kevin says:

    The towel has been thrown.

  115. MannyGeee says:

damn. even A Rod thought he had that one

  116. Xstar7 says:

    A-Rod JUSSSSST missed an A-Bomb.

  117. Foghorn Leghorn says:

I’m starting a new business trying to predict baseball and lookin’ for investors.

    Any takers?

  118. first time lawng time says:

TB is SO muh more likeable than Boston,

  119. Cy Pettitte says:

holy crap Verlander is destroying the Indians

    regression is certainly a bitch

  120. Pastadivignunez says:

Does anyone else think Cashman threw Posada under the bus this afternoon on Francessa show saying they needed posada to get ready to catch for them in ST but he refused and concentrated on hitting only?

    • Pastadivignunez says:

Imagine this week if Posada could catch a few games on the road our line up would be stronger

    • MannyGeee says:

this is like… the exact opposite of what they told Posada from the onset of the offseason. Cashman told Posada he will be a DH in 2011.

      • Pastadivignunez says:

Threw him under the bus and backedbup over him. But should posada have prepared his body to catch if nreeded? Should girardi have said something?

  121. Mike Myers says:

Is it just me or do others think to themselves “that would be out 3 years ago” every time A Rod hits it to the track?

  122. first time lawng time says:

LMAO Chan Ho Park sucks. I feel embarassed that he was ever in pinstripes.

  123. Dela G says:

Lol at that stupid Michael Kay sign

  124. Mike Myers says:

verlander just blew the perfect game….still poss no hitter

  125. MannyGeee says:

that is like the 6th pitch inside tonight…

  126. Cy Pettitte says:

    Swish! he needed that one.

  127. MannyGeee says:

    SWISSSSSH! welcome back

  128. Mike Axisa says:

It would have been much better if Greg Golson threw out a runner on that pitch.

  129. Mike Myers says:

    butter fingers!

  130. Kevin says:

    More of that Swisher.

  131. David N says:

    Swishalicious FTW.

  132. Wait, are non-Yankee fans really gonna be announcing on the radio next year?

  133. MannyGeee says:

OK this game is kind of a bust, but what is the over/under on claws and or antler moments tomorrow and Thursday?

    setting the O/O at……… 15

  134. Greg says:

    Mike jinxed it.

  135. MannyGeee says:

shit, there goes the no no

  136. Cy Pettitte says:

and that’s how the no-no ends, ugh

  137. mbonzo says:

    Way to go Kay,

“CC’s been perfect through 3.” Kinsler proceeds to single to center.

  138. V says:

Kay is so fucking smug about the PG/NH jinx thing. Ass.

  139. Mike Myers says:

How soon before someone calls him Flash Gordon? Over/under Thursday 3rd inning.

  140. Cy Pettitte says:

wow Brian Gordon will “likely” start for Colon

amazing how little faith they seem to have in Noesi (and the other AAA arms)

  141. V says:

Umpire caused that hit instead of a double play. Fuck.

  142. first time lawng time says:

In case you guys(seriously, am I the only girl that comes here now?) were wondering, the reason the Yankees didn’t hit well last night was that it was cold, so all the old guys couldn’t perform well.

  143. Greg says:

DOnt give Hamilton another chance. Good play

  144. Cy Pettitte says:

ugh it makes me mad when these garbage runs get put on CC’s era

  145. Pastadivignunez says:

    Here they come

  146. Greg says:

CC cant do that. You have to bear down and throttle them

  147. first time lawng time says:

Wow Cervelli is such a tarantula. I hate him.

  148. Mike HC says:

haha, I love the batter pointing to the ump. I think it psychologically makes the ump think the batter didn’t swing.

  149. mbonzo says:

There goes the no hitter from Verlander. Kay just ruined 2 no hitters by calling them out.

  150. Greg says:

Orlando Cabrera singles off Verlander in the 8th

  151. Cy Pettitte says:

and there goes the Verlander no no

    I blame Kay

  152. Sayid J. says:

In relation to that decision for Cervelli to pick up the ball there rather than letting it roll foul, does anyone have a link to a run expectancy matrix which shows the probability of scoring a run, two runs, or three runs (etc.) rather than just giving you the average number of runs scored in that situation.

  153. Pastadivignunez says:

Cervelli = giant pile of suck who was the guy who started at third for Arod in 2009
    Worse than him

  154. Cy Pettitte says:

stop hitting Teix you mother fuckers

  155. Erica says:

    Tex: “AH SHIT!”

  156. Mariano's Pimp Hand says:

Tex said a bad word, LOL

  157. Greg says:

    clipped him on the toe

  158. Rob says:

No one yells expletives like tex

  159. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

Wow he fucking roped that shit.

  160. MannyGeee says:

    great act by teix?

  161. Esteban says:

    Slay (them all) Rod

  162. first time lawng time says:

    Cano will go big.

  163. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    ARod is HOT right now!!

  164. Karl Krawfid says:

A-Rod looks like how he did at the start of the year.

  165. Jetrer says:

damn, the ball just jumps off his bat when he is going good

  166. AaronGuileWithASmile says:

A-Rod’s got his swing back. Look out, MLB.

  167. Pastadivignunez says:

Cody ransome randy winn thats some bad yankees cervelli burries those guys in suck

  168. Kevin says:

    Centaur makes his presence known.

  169. MannyGeee says:

wow…. A rod makes this shit looks stupid easy.

  170. Dela G says:

I love how they rag on leiter

  171. Pat D says:

So someone else got hit, eh?

  172. MannyGeee says:

CC kicks a lot of balls. surprised that he hasn’t got plugged hard yet…

  173. Greg says:

    Throttle them…

  174. Guy Montag says:

    CC falling apart again.

  175. Cy Pettitte says:

    come on CC….

  176. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

    Stop being a bitch, CC.

  177. MannyGeee says:

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh boy. good thing CCs got a lead to play with.

  178. Foghorn Leghorn says:

I like how MLB has been listing Arod’s name as Al Rodriguez

  179. Karl Krawfid says:

CC needs to chill throwing all these fastballs man.

  180. King George says:

CC, pull your motherfucking head out.

    Your fans

  181. MannyGeee says:

while this thing has slowed to a crawl, fantasy help time:

with Harang on the DL, got a choice of Marquis or Maholm as FA pitchers in my league. thoughts? leaning towards Maholm.

  182. CBean says:

It’s even more upsetting when CC pulls an AJ (especially when AJ didn’t)

  183. Foghorn Leghorn says:

Big game Hamie shuts out the Sox…damn!

  184. Pat D says:

CC not pitching like a tank today…

  185. Monteroisdinero says:

If this was Nova in the 5th……but it’s CC.

  186. Esteban says:

I’m late, did the guy that said the Yankees have the worst corner OFers in baseball show up in the thread tonight?

  187. MannyGeee says:

Swisher is looking like 2010 Swisher all of the sudden

  188. Cy Pettitte says:

kinda wanna see this Tateyama guy pitch

  189. Foghorn Leghorn says:

I think I found what Dice K was working on all these years…

  190. Pastadivingarod says:

Swisher should just scrap the switch hitting thing and just hit RH bet he could hit righties that way too.

  191. MannyGeee says:

nice nice nice catch by Nelson Cruz

  192. King George says:

Not gonna lie, CC’s last two starts have been shaky at best. This has to stop!

  193. Mickey Scheister says:

I blame Cervelli. Montero would call a better game.

  194. Pastadivinggirardi says:

At this point i think it would be better to flip cervelli and gus molina
Cc looks like cervy messing him up

  195. Foghorn Leghorn says:

that pick above looks like they use Colon’s t shirt to cover the infield.

  196. Pastadivinggirardi says:

Didnt Cano and cervelli work out together this offseason in DR

  197. Greg says:

looked a bit like a screwball

  198. Cy Pettitte says:

how does he even grip the ball like that let alone throw it accurately? damn

  199. Pastadivinggirardi says:

    Speed kills

  200. Greg says:

I think Gardner must be reading my comments.

    (joking of course.)

  201. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

Need some help. Is there a site that can provide me with league average statistics of fourth and fifth starters this year?

  202. MannyGeee says:

wow, I am at home giving gardner some ‘Antlers’ after that hustle down the line!

  203. swishers fauxhawk says:

    Gritty, blue-collar AB.

  204. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

  205. FIPster Doofus says:

    This guy is unbelievable.

  206. Esteban says:

This guy is a fucking animal.

  207. Greg says:

    The Grandyman!

  208. Jetrer says:

    the Grandyman is fucking awesome

  209. Erica says:

  210. MannyGeee says:

is Sterling singing The Grandyman can??? disgrace

  211. Pat D says:

Hope they save some runs for the next few days against better pitching.

  212. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    Grandyman is a beast

  213. Foghorn Leghorn says:

somethin’ sort of Grandish..OH! The Grandyman Can..the Grandyman!

  214. tom says:

Memo to Texas: The Yankees prefer a 7-run lead. If you’re going to keep scoring, they’re going to keep scoring.

  215. Esteban says:

Forget about SSS and correlation issues, and the erroneousness of it

LOOK: Jeter misses the game and the Yankees score 11 runs. FACT, Jeter is preventing the Yankees from scoring 11 runs every game.

  216. billy's bartender says:

YES just called it his 2nd of the game.

  217. Ivan says:

The Grandyman is just killin these mothafuckers rite now.

  218. Cy Pettitte says:

hopefully they keep this lead big so Whelan can get an inning

  219. MannyGeee says:

dont think that one has the distance A Rod… might need to run

  220. MannyGeee says:

watching the Rangers feed… did you know Mark Cuban is fotting the bill for the Mavs parade?

Yeah David Stern, this guy is gonna bring down the game of baseball if you allow him to buy a team…

  221. Cy Pettitte says:

    fucking laser

  222. MannyGeee says:

golfed it! a ribbie for robbie

  223. King George says:

    Just a thought…

If you’re Girardi, do you leave CC in the game and let him go 7 or 8 and try to iron out his kinks knowing the game is over or do you save CC’s arm for his next start? I definitely could see both ways, and personally, I’d leave CC in. The guy can surely do more inning eating and it could help hi for his next start.

  224. Esteban says:

BAH. Laser beam. Yankees pwning these n00bs

  225. swishers fauxhawk says:

  226. Foghorn Leghorn says:

    Dontcha Know!

  227. jon says:

wow looks like paul knows what hes talking about

  228. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

For the love of Mo, make the evil homeruns stop!!!

  229. Greg says:

The Prudential scoreboard brought to you by Prudential…

    No shit

  230. Esteban says:

That HR got Cano back over .500 Slg. Yankees have 4 guys SLG over .500. Not bad. Not bad at all.

  231. King George says:

This team blows! I can’t believe they rely on the home run this much. Ugh.

  232. Dino Velvet says:

If Gardy continues to do well at leadoff and if the offense continues to rawk, it’s gonna put a lot of pressure to move Jeter to the bottom of the line-up.

    • Xstar7 says:

Not until at least a little while after he gets 3,000.

    • Esteban says:

I agree, and I think Gardner’s a better hitter at this point, but it’s one game, and I don’t think the Yankees will move Jeter down before he gets 3,000. Next two weeks should be interesting.

  233. swishers fauxhawk says:

    Montero could have done that

  234. Rob says:

I heard that cervelli asked cashman why the hell didn’t he bring montero up yet?

  235. Where…the fuck…is Jesus Montero? Is there gonna be a post about this.

  236. first time lawng time says:

Still don’t get how Peña is 25. He looks 15.

  237. Esteban says:

I see that Ramiro’s rocking one of those gross faux-mullet things that are popular with latinos.

  238. Xstar7 says:

Unrelated, but Gonzalez passed Tex in the All-Star ballots. It was fun while it lasted.

  239. Greg says:

I think that they want to use him as a trade chip and that if he gets called up and fails then he wont be as attractive to other GMs. Kind of like Fernando Martinez with the Mets.

    • Jetrer says:

not necessarily though, Mariners wanted Smoak over Montero last year even though Smoak failed when Texas called him up before the trade.

      • JohnnyC says:

If Cashman is trying to hide something (and it’s even money whether he’s trading Montero anyway), it’s Montero’s defensive deficiencies not his bat (which everyone believes is bonafide).

        • Jetrer says:

yeah, but I don’t think that is a secret. The Yankees seem to be the only one’s who think Montero can stay at catcher. Leaving him down to play Cervelli just makes it seem like even the Yankees don’t think he can catch.

  240. first time lawng time says:

Ayala’s ERA in garbage time: 1.05
Ayala’s ERA when it counts: 7.09

  241. Greg says:

Gardner’s definitely impressed me tonight. Keep it going and I’ll lay off

  242. nsalem says:

Eat the feces Gardner attack dogs

  243. Mike Axisa says:

I was told Andruw Jones only struck out look and popped out.

  244. FIPster Doofus says:

Gardner is inching closer to last season’s .358 wOBA. Not bad for a “fourth outfielder.”

    • Greg says:

      Consistency is the key.

      • nsalem says:

He has been consistent for the last two years just as you look consistently foolish moaning and roaning about him every time he has a couple of bad games. Very shallow of you.

    • Cy Pettitte says:

Gardner gets so much irrational hate, especially on Francesa. I don’t understand it. His game isn’t perfect but he’s still valuable to this team.

      • nsalem says:

He gets plenty of hate here after he has a couple of bad offensive performances. Yes, he should be a better baserunner and he should have better bunting skills. His positives though far outweigh his negatives. Those who call him a fourth outfielder every time his average dips under .250 are just plain ignorant and have no clue what they are talking about. They don’t understand the importance of having a centerfield talent in left (especially in Yankee stadium)
and they are just plain silly calling his ability to be patient a lack of aggressiveness. Hitters who can consistently have 5 and 6 pitch ABs are going to get caught looking. It goes with the territory. The bottom line is OBP not his K’s

  245. Cy Pettitte says:

    Y U NO Kevin Whelan? that’s why I kept watching….

  246. CMP says:

Cervelli is the only one not invited to the party. At least he didn’t throw one to Granderson tonight.

  247. first time lawng time says:

Those Texas flags on the uniforms are so dumb. Seriously, no other state parades its flag around like that.

    • Greg says:

Added to that they are not the onLY Texas MLB team.

    • mbonzo says:

Texas pride, what other state used to be its own country?

      • Greg says:

        Hawaii, I think

      • All of the 13 colonies essentially. They were all independent of eachother.

        • mbonzo says:

No one recognized them except for France, who just did it to be dicks.

          • The point was how they viewed themselves though.

            • mbonzo says:

              What do you mean?

              • Talking about Texas pride is because texans thought of themselves as Texans in their own right. The original 13 clearly thought of themselves as distinct countries.

                • Matt says:

I think you are misusing the idea of states’ rights here.

There is a difference between being an independent country and wishing to preserve one’s autonomy within a union of states or territories.

The reason the Articles of Confederation failed were that the states did eventually need to request the help of the central government, which was essentially powerless to provide assistance since the states had too much of the authority.

Even though they had different currencies and governing bodies, these states were not hoping to be independent countries, but rather to stay affiliated in the event of a potential future need to repel a foreign power.

                  • I still think that during the articles they were pretty much closely allied nation-states, a la the EU.

                    • mbonzo says:

They were a confederation, but just slightly before the revolutionary war there was a period where they claimed to be independent but not a confederacy. From what I remember, no one recognized them as independent states during this time except for France which is not enough to be considered countries. The only states to be recognized as a country were Texas and Hawaii. California and Vermont spent time as Republics, but they weren’t recognized as countries.

        • Matt says:

They were never independent countries. Before the Revolutionary War, they were British Colonies, and the Articles of Confederation were adopted before the war ended, which unified them under a central government (albeit a weak one).

  248. Cy Pettitte says:

Lance has no place on this team if he’s gonna walk 2 in an inning with an 8 run lead.

  249. So we have noone on the team batting under 280 and above 250. Just a weird fact.

  250. Esteban says:

Pants Lendleton is double plus ungood.

  251. mbonzo says:

Put this one on the left side.

  252. nsalem says:

Need that win tomorrow so we can get 10 over .500 it’s about time.

  253. Alfredo says:

i am watching A.j. Burnett throw a no hitter in 2001 with the marlins against the padres, this young kid is the same old kid that we have now very inconsistence control but great stuff. i will say he is a better pitcher today then with the marlins, way better control.
