It’s raining here in the city, though the forecast seems to indicate that there’s enough of a window to gets tonight’s game in at some point. The Yankees waited until the last possible minute to put Derek Jeter on the disabled list, but no such luck with Russell Martin. He’s still active and hobbled while the bench remains a man short. Anyway, here’s the starting lineup…

Would it be better to have Ramiro Pena play SS than Nunez?
Neither are good hitters, but at least Pena is a bit more sure handed.
Not just no, but hell no. I think Pena is below average as it is. At least Nunez has a bat. Pena = Cervelli in terms of hitting.
I can’t see Pena playing SS at all. He’s way too old and I don’t think he ever had the quickness–yeah, he had great footwork but man. This team is desperate.
Pena is 25 and has been pretty good defensively. Not sure what everyones talking about. Nunez is probably better with the bat but is a complete disaster defensively.
He’s not a tank.
Neither is the answer, but ‘lesser of two evils theory’ has me taking ‘no bat + great defense’ over ‘meh bat + meh defense… especially if we are dealing with 2 weeks.

I wouldn’t say Nunez isn’t a good hitter. Is he any worse than Jeter? No. Nunez will be a pretty good hitter when he is developed and isn’t a bad hitter now.
I’m sick of seeing Cervelli’s name in the lineup. If Russell Martin can’t play, then put him on the DL and call up Montero already. I think it’s time to see what the kid’s got.
Montero just missed 4 games with an eye infection and 2 games after that. Think putting him against ML pitching after 1-2 games back is a wise choice?
Even after missing those games, I still think Montero would do better than Cervelli. If Cervelli was better defensively then maybe it’d be a different story. But all around, I think Cerv is garbage.
Oh I hate Cervelli, but IMO it’s not about him. Don’t think it’s a wise decision to throw a 20 year old kid to ML pitchers after he sat out a week just because I hate Cervelli.
Montero cant catch and has not proven his bat can do work yet as advertised.

Please, look at his numbers as a 20 year old in AAA. I think they make a pretty strong argument that he is ready to do work in the majors.
And his numbers from this year, while down, do nothing to convince me that he has “lost the magic” from last year or whatever. All they do is tell me his power stroke is in a bit of a slump. I have full confidence that its still there.

There is no excuse for Cervelli starting yet again when a better option is sitting down in AAA. We can beat Ogando with CC on the mound but we’d be a lot better off with someone at C that can hit and can throw more than 2/20 runners out. Texas loves to run run run, good thing CC is on the mound tonight to negate that.
Cervelli throws out 10% of runners? Wow. It seemed a lot lower than that, like 0%. Every ball thrown into CF, it’s the Cervelli way.

They either need to call up Montero or trade him. I honestly think he’s fucking bored in AAA. He would be our 3rd best hitter, maybe our 2nd, depending on my mood with Tex (Jason Giambi with a better glove, I’m getting fucking sick of watching this goofy fuck pop up to an infielder). And I can’t stand Cervelli. He is one guy I would love to see shatter his ankle like Jason Kendall. But I liked Kendall.
So basically, when Tex pops up he’s a goofy fuck, but you like him when he’s #2 in AL in HRs or has the 3rd highest wOBA for AL 1B.
By the way, “Giambi with a better glove” is not an insult.

Best trio is Kay, Paulie, Leiter. However, I also enjoy Cone and Singleton.
Paulie is the best, though.
Big fan of Paul and Cone. Of course, two of the worst broadcasting voices known to man. And Singleton is also a favorite of mine with a good voice.
Kay annoys me, but I work hard to look past that and enjoy what he does do well, which is to get good information and reactions out of his color guys. He also does have a personality, which I guess is better than a drying paint type of guy.
Leiter bores me, and Flash really bores me.
Lorenz is a very solid, if unspectacular, play by play guy. I like him.
LOVE whenever Cone/Singleton does a game. They are the best “baseball” announcers in the YES booth
Flaherty/Lorenz is brutal. Lorenz is a bad play by play announcer and is brought down by Flaharty who is even worse.
Kay doesn’t bother me except when he gets really excited about a routine fly ball. He and Kenny and Paul in the booth are great.
I think the best booth YES can have is Kenny/Cone/Leiter. Unfortunately Kenny only does play by play on the west coast and there’s never a 3 man booth on the west coast.
I like Kay, Cone, and O’Neill a lot.

His BABIP this year was .210 coming into today. He still has good peripherals and a lucky BABIP doesn’t mean you’re “due” for a correction, but he’s not Roy Halladay and this isn’t completely unexpected.

The only states to be recognized as a country were Texas and Hawaii. California and Vermont spent time as Republics, but they weren’t recognized as countries.
