Game 67: Gettin’ Away

By

The Yankees have already won this series against the Rangers, so all that’s left is to finish off the sweep before getting away and heading to Chicago for the NL park leg of the interleague schedule. Brian Gordon is in fact getting the start, and he prepared for today by playing long toss with a staffer in the park across the street from Yankee Stadium yesterday. Oh, and Alex Rodriguez isn’t in today’s lineup. After DH’ing yesterday, I think it’s safe to say he’s banged up. Either that or they’re just resting him before six straight games in NL parks. Here’s the lineup…

Nick Swisher, RF
Curtis Granderson, CF
Mark Teixeira, 1B
Robinson Cano, 2B
Andruw Jones, LF – poor Brett Gardner
Jorge Posada, DH
Russell Martin, C – oh hey, welcome back Russ
Eduardo Nunez, SS
Ramiro Pena, 3B

Brian Gordon, SP

The game can be seen on YES locally or MLB Network nationally, but if you’re stuck in the office you can always listen on WCBS 880. First pitch is scheduled for a little after 1pm ET. Enjoy.

  1. Cuso says:

    There it is!

Flash, ahhhhhhh! Savior of the Universe!

    Go get ‘em, dude.

  2. Rob says:

I just saw on twitter that arod is 1 for 13 off wilson. i hope that is why he’s not playing, and the fact that he will play 6 days straight at 3rd.

  3. Pat D says:

    Ah, The Allentown Morning Call.

    Absolutely horrible newspaper.

    • Cuso says:

Well, we’re living here in Allentowwwwwnnnnnnn, for the Pennsylvania we never founddd…..

      • Pat D says:

I don’t live in Allentown, but that’s where I work.

I always thought Bethlehem was the city that got hurt worse, because that’s where the steel industry was centered.

This area (the Lehigh Valley) isn’t anything like that Bill Joel song anymore. The population in this area has been increasing a lot, mostly due to yuppies from New Jersey and New York moving into all these new housing developments.

        Frankly, it’s pretty disgusting.

  4. Nigel Bangs says:

Oh man, love me some day games. Go get em Yanks!

  5. Elnino'sboomstick says:

Lets hope this gordon guy is Gold.

  6. Pat D says:

    http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/.....id=6668522

Of course this is on the ESPN front page.

  7. Greg says:

    Anybody know Gordon’s repetoire?

  8. Xstar7 says:

Brian Gordon has an interesting story. Hopefully he’ll have at least somewhat of a quality start.

  9. Cy Pettitte says:

hopefully this guy pitches well, he could be a weapon in interleague

  10. the tenth inning stretch says:

Brian Gordon looks a lot like Jeremy Bonderman.

    That’s my expert analysis.

    • Mister Delaware says:

If I did nothing but watch the games on mute, I’d wonder why Gaudin was brought back. (Atleast until he struck out Hamilton.)

  11. CBean says:

aw they don’t have a picture of Gordon in a Yankee hat for mlb.com

  12. Cy Pettitte says:

it is soooooo nice to have Russell back

  13. Greg says:

    IN TIME!

  14. Xstar7 says:

    I missed you Russell

  15. Hester Prynne says:

A great throw from the C for a change.

  16. Yank The Frank says:

    Marin’s back is ok.

  17. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    Martin>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Cervelli

    /statingtheobvious

  18. Elnino'sboomstick says:

They thought cervelli was catching lol

  19. Pat D says:

    Did Nunez miss the tag?

  20. Mike Axisa says:

What a throw by Martin. Also nice inning by Gordon.

  21. Rob says:

martin doesn’t have nearly the arm cervelli’s got, cervelli can get it to granderson every time

  22. mike_h says:

    so far so good

  23. the tenth inning stretch says:

Wow, that wasn’t even close, the throw beat him by a mile.

  24. Pat D says:

Wide ass zone by this ump.

  25. the tenth inning stretch says:

Wow, that looked like 4 straight balls…

  26. Greg says:

Gave the outside pitch to Gordon so…

  27. Elnino'sboomstick says:

Swisher says you aint moving me out of the lead off spot again

  28. the tenth inning stretch says:

    Oh geez.

  29. Pat D says:

    Motherfucker!

  30. Cy Pettitte says:

    come on Nick….

  31. Mister Delaware says:

    Oh Swish …

  32. Elnino'sboomstick says:

They need to stop letting posada give base running tips to the guys

  33. IRF says:

Way to kill the inning Swish

  34. Pat D says:

Beltre looked surprised that Andrus didn’t catch the ball.

  35. Mike Axisa says:

Why is Grandy still on first?

  36. Karl Krawfid says:

    Ah Swish.

  37. Xstar7 says:

Everyone on this team needs to go to a base running clinic.

  38. Yank The Frank says:

At least Curtis went to seco. Heads up.

  39. Karl Krawfid says:

    Should be 1 zero noooo

  40. Urban says:

That would have been an RBI.

    Had to say it!

  41. Elnino'sboomstick says:

Why is grandy still on first Teagarden

  42. Cuso says:

Swisher can’t help himself. When he does something good (singles), he compelled to screw up as quickly as possible (overslides bag).

  43. Cy Pettitte says:

way to run themselves out of an inning.

  44. Xstar7 says:

    Grandy was out

  45. Pat D says:

    Jeez.

  46. Mike Axisa says:

Two outs on the bases in the first inning. Bah.

  47. Guns of the Navarone says:

    Lovely inning on the bases.

  48. Karl Krawfid says:

    Good defense from both teams.

  49. the tenth inning stretch says:

Wow nice call by the 2b ump. In live speed he looked pretty safe.

    • Urban says:

I thought Swisher was safe until they showed the final replay.

BTW Notice how YES will show four different replays, none of which will show the clear answer on a play, but then they’ll show the slow-mo YES angle two minutes later that does show the answer? They have that play immediately, but they purposely drag it out, when all I want to see is the money shot. Annoying.

  50. CBean says:

Sterling just said about Mark’s flyout “that’s a sac fly for an RBI” and then paused and said “of course there’s no runner on 3rd.”

    • Guns of the Navarone says:

I rarely, if ever, listen to the game on the radio but over the last couple of weeks or so I’ve turned it on two separate times and BOTH times he called a HR that ended up being caught at the track. He must screw up all the time. If he’s not the worst play-by-play announcer, I want to know who is.

      • CBean says:

Yeah, I listen to At-Bat when i’m in the office. I occasionally will switch to the Away feed but then I get tired of the Yankee hating and have to come back to Sterling and his nonsense.

    • sjferrari says:

John Sterling after Mark Teixeria’s first-inning homerun yesterday: “His two-run blast ties the game at 1!” That’s impressive. Love me some Sterling.

  51. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

Wait I thought Jorge and Gardner weren’t playing today

  52. Elnino'sboomstick says:

Since when is the guy allowed to block the bag?

    • Mister Delaware says:

You can block the bag if you like, but if you get a rep for it guys will start coming in spikes first.

  53. Cuso says:

    faced the minimum. Ugh.

  54. Kostas says:

And that kids, is how to properly take your team out of an inning. Brought to you by the fine people at Roto Rooter. “Roto Rooter, let’s flush that clog away.”

  55. the tenth inning stretch says:

Good curveball so far from Gordon.

  56. Elnino'sboomstick says:

Did kim get a nose job ?

  57. Nico says:

I thought his fastball was high 80s but Gameday says all his FBs have been 91.
Also, one of his pitches got 100 nasty factor haha

  58. Urban says:

Brian Gordon was born locally, West Point, NY, but went to school in Texas. I wonder if he was an army brat.

  59. Urban says:

Cano used to make those plays.

  60. Elnino'sboomstick says:

    Wtf robbie?

  61. Mister Delaware says:

    What a lazy bobble …

  62. Karl Krawfid says:

    Thanks again Cano

  63. Yank The Frank says:

Lately it seems every game Robbie doesn’t make a play he should prolonging the inning.

  64. Guns of the Navarone says:

    Aaron Small-ish.

  65. Xstar7 says:

That could have been ugly. Nice job by Gordon so far.

  66. the tenth inning stretch says:

Gordon picks up Robbie. He looks good so far.

  67. Cy Pettitte says:

will be interesting to see his second time through the line up, he’s getting away with pretty much just the fastball and curve right now

  68. Jetrer says:

    From LoHud:
“Is Montero better than Cervelli? Yes he is,” Cashman said.

    http://yankees.lhblogs.com/201.....es+Blog%29

    • Guns of the Navarone says:

Yeah. It turns out the Yankees GM isn’t completely dense.

      • Jetrer says:

except that Montero is in AAA and Cervelli is on the Yankees

        • Guns of the Navarone says:

He’s stated on a number of occasions that he doesn’t want to bring him up if he won’t get the chance to get regular playing time. It makes perfect sense.

          • Jetrer says:

except he could easily play at least 4 days a week – 2 catcher, 2-3 DH. Posada was brought up as a part timer and that worked out fine. Oh, and both Cash and Girardi said in spring training that they would be willing to ease Montero in that way.

            • Guns of the Navarone says:

And do what with Posada? Release him? It looked like that was going to be the case but he’s starting hitting again. The Yankees really have no need to rush him up right now. Cash said this week that if Russell Martin goes on the DL that Montero would get the call up. That’s probably the way it should be, in my opinion.

Unless something happens to Posada or Martin, there’s really no place to put Montero.

              • Jetrer says:

Posada still plays like he has been. Platoon DH. Martin plays 4-5 days at catcher with Montero the other 2. Posada DH 4 days with Montero the other 2-3.

    • Xstar7 says:

Of course he is. But that doesn’t mean we should call him up yet.

  69. Nico says:

Does anyone feel excited for Gordon to have a good game? I don’t care about the prospect nonsense yet, they’ll have their time in September. If this guy gives the Yankees a couple of good starts it would be great.

  70. Mike Axisa says:

    Robbie crushed that.

  71. Nico says:

One question, does anyone know what the Nasty Factor actually represents?

  72. the tenth inning stretch says:

Wow, Yanks getting the luck now.

  73. Xstar7 says:

Wow. Jones definitely swung at that.

  74. NHYankeesFan says:

Wow! I cant believe Andruw swung at that, even thought it wasnt called

  75. Xstar7 says:

There’s our obligatory double play for the day.

  76. Karl Krawfid says:

    Woo Posada!

  77. Jim S says:

I know ESPN Gamecast’s strike zone is terrible, but it had the first pitch to Posada smack in the middle of the zone and labeled as a ball.

I hope that’s ESPN’s poor technology and not the ump.

  78. the tenth inning stretch says:

    Time for some muscle.

  79. Elnino'sboomstick says:

Posada just made me remember jeter (snif snif)

  80. Yank The Frank says:

    2 out bingo!!

  81. Mike Axisa says:

    Missed you, Russ.

  82. Cy Pettitte says:

nice to have good Russell back

  83. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

Russell, It’s sooooo nice to have you back.

  84. Klemy says:

    Hell yeah.

  85. NHYankeesFan says:

    Russel has muscles

  86. Xstar7 says:

There you go Russell, there you go.

  87. CBean says:

    Welcome back, Russ!

  88. Greg says:

    Bobbled

  89. NHYankeesFan says:

Kay seems to be really confused with what the count is

  90. the tenth inning stretch says:

    Lolz Beltre.

  91. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    Bobble-tre

  92. mt says:

And wwe also have Rangers “Gold Glove” third basemen – LOL!

  93. the tenth inning stretch says:

When SWB came to Rochester this spring, at one of the games I went to, Pena was the DH. I was so confused.

  94. Nico says:

Well Ramiro already has his annual homerun.
    Wait til’ next year!

  95. Karl Krawfid says:

    double swim move lol

  96. Urban says:

Yeah, but, Al, that’s what always used to do! He was still a good pitcher, but funny to hear him talking about “throwing stikes.”

  97. Yank The Frank says:

Gordon is a strike throwing machine.

  98. ansky says:

    Sick Curve, Love it

  99. Spectra says:

I have to say it 6 baserunners in 2 innings … only 1 run. Really? come on

  100. Cy Pettitte says:

    I give that 0-2 curve a 95 nasty factor

  101. Meat Loaf says:

For some reason, watching him throw hard strike after strike is really enjoyable to watch.

  102. Nico (or Brian Gordon's Fan Group) says:

    Check out my name ;)

  103. ansky says:

Al Leiter just used Gordon in same sentence as Halladay, and Maddux.

  104. Urban says:

Gordon to the rotation; Nova to the pen!

    /bandwagon’d

  105. Yank The Frank says:

Nick made up for over sliding 3rd.

  106. Joe says:

30 pitches. 24 strikes. Video game numbers right there.

  107. ansky says:

    He looks pitcherish

  108. mt says:

I know rangers haven’t seen him before so it helps Gordon but nice to see swings and misses on that curve (Ivan Nova, take notes.)

  109. Jetrer says:

this damn leadoff hitter keeps getting on base. I’m not used to this.

  110. Nico says:

Wilson has thrown more pitches than Gordon in one inning less haha

  111. Xstar7 says:

    Grandy just keeps on hitting

  112. Yank The Frank says:

    Curtis is on fire!

  113. Yank The Frank says:

    Productive out.

  114. Xstar7 says:

C’mon Cano. Get a sac fly at least.

  115. Guns of the Navarone says:

    AndrUw with the one-eye black?

  116. Mister Delaware says:

YES is fun right now. O’Neill and Leiter talking and Kay sitting silently.

  117. Urban says:

Many opportunities; too many left on base.

  118. Greg says:

    I hate Mike Maddux.

  119. Elnino'sboomstick says:

This cj wilson is going to make some money in FA

  120. Kostas says:

    Andrew Jones… Killing me.

  121. Guns of the Navarone says:

Yeah I don’t get how peaking behind you would be cheating. If I were playing I would try to sneak a peak every chance I got to see where the catcher was setting up.

  122. Yank The Frank says:

    I’m likeing this Gordon guy.

  123. the tenth inning stretch says:

I love it when Leiter basically tells Kay, “No, you’re wrong.”

  124. Karl Krawfid says:

This game just got boring :(

  125. FIPster Doofus says:

I’m so effing sick of Moreland. Go away.

    • FIPster Doofus says:

On second thought, I just looked up his stats v. NYY and they aren’t very good. Confirmation bias, I guess.

  126. Karl Krawfid says:

    Good pitch, bad result

  127. Greg says:

    He needs a changeup.

  128. MannyGeee says:

just checked in at the top of the 4th. can I get a summary?

    (preferably in haiku form?)

  129. CBean says:

    Sterling on Tex’s play

“I don’t know if he’s the best fielding first baseman, but I know there’s no one better.”

    um, what?

    • MannyGeee says:

I heard that. there’s no way he really means anything he says. I think he’s trying to tap into that ‘Yogi-ism’ money

    • Urban says:

It’s just a twist of a phrase. It’s a Sterling-esque way of saying he believes Tex is the best.

  130. Greg says:

He’s been calling that outside strike all day.

  131. Urban says:

Lou Gehrig was sick before he was 39.

  132. MannyGeee says:

LOL I picked the perfect game to finally sit Russell Martin and pick up a back up catcher huh?

    Fantasy Fail

  133. bonestock94 says:

Is it safe to think the Yankees will be in heavy on CJ Wilson? Solid lefty mid-rotation guy with experience in a hitters park, would love to see him in pinstripes.

  134. MannyGeee says:

nice DP by Noonie… are we officially out of love with him?

  135. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    ugg…Don’t walk Taylor Teagarden

  136. Urban says:

    Jeter would have had that.

  137. Greg says:

    Hit and run

  138. the tenth inning stretch says:

Geez, now all the luck we were getting is going the other way.

  139. Cy Pettitte says:

fuck BG would of had that.

  140. Xstar7 says:

    Gardner would have caught that

  141. Mike Axisa says:

And this is where the Brian Gordon story takes a tragic turn.

  142. Urban says:

All those failed opportunities are going to come back now to haunt…

  143. Greg says:

Gardner might have had that. And the roof might be about to cave in

  144. Elnino'sboomstick says:

Third time. Through the line up
    Gardy would have got that

  145. Karl Krawfid says:

One day they will stop sitting Gardner.

  146. Mister Delaware says:

    Gardner!

  147. MannyGeee says:

    uh oh

wheels falling off the Boom Flashy Flashy Gordon experiment

  148. Jimmy McNulty says:

    CASHDUMMIE LOSS!!!!!!!1!!111!!111!!!one111

  149. tut says:

Looks like the clock is about to strike 12

  150. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

Maybe Joe will play Gardner against a lefty soon

  151. tom says:

It’s not so much I’m sure Gardner would have had it. It’s that Jones didn’t seem to realize a play was even possible.

  152. Mister Delaware says:

Here comes an IBB debate …

  153. Elnino'sboomstick says:

This guy talking in the booth is sucking the life out of this game

  154. Jimmy McNulty says:

Oh speaking of Father’s Day, I got my old man a silk shirt…what’d you guys get him?

  155. Greg says:

    Nice K

  156. the tenth inning stretch says:

Big K there. Hope Nova’s taking notes.

  157. Karl Krawfid says:

    Why do this?

    Why do this!

  158. Mike Axisa says:

On record as not liking this intentional walk.

  159. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

Why IBB Hamilton with Yankee Killer Michael Young up next?

  160. tom says:

I know Michael Milken has done some redemptive things since, but, sorry, to me he’s still a frickin’ criminal who cost alot of people (including, OK, ME) much needed money.

But, you know…Anthony Weiner’ll be a pariah forever.

  161. Jimmy McNulty says:

As far as benching Gardner goes, it seems that his biggest offensive strengths are speed and working the count…shouldn’t that work against LHP too?

  162. Karl Krawfid says:

Michael Young kills it at the new stadium. And against the Yankees.

    Don’t like this.

  163. Yank The Frank says:

If this guy keeps talking I got to put it on mute.

  164. Greg says:

    It worked for the moment

  165. Cy Pettitte says:

Michael Young – not so scary anymore

  166. MannyGeee says:

Sterling is one more out away from telling us the probability of being able to predict baseball.. He’s alredy given us the pre-curser “well, how do you like that….”

  167. Jimmy McNulty says:

I have a feeling this guy is jinxing the team.

  168. the tenth inning stretch says:

He’s in the 5th innging of his first MLB game and the fans are already chanting Brian Gordon’s name. Enjoy it, kid.

  169. CBean says:

    Fuck!

  170. Cy Pettitte says:

he’s turning into a pumpkin right before our eyes!

  171. Hester Prynne says:

Boy, how do you like that? Yanks blow chance after chance and now Gordon hits a guy to drive on the go ahead run. You just can’t predict baseball.

  172. Karl Krawfid says:

Man he stuck is elbow out.

  173. Mister Delaware says:

On one hand, he elbowed the pitch. On the other, he’s not wearing a guard so I’m not going to complain.

  174. Elnino'sboomstick says:

    Beltre acting like it hurt

  175. Greg says:

    He stuck his elbow out

  176. Xstar7 says:

I was screaming at the TV for Gordon not to use that breaking ball.

  177. MannyGeee says:

oooops. that was not in the plans

  178. Mike Axisa says:

Alright. All things considered, that’s not terrible. Good job limiting the damage.

  179. tom says:

Now there’s a disheartening way to lose the lead. On an 0-2 pitch yet.

  180. Yank The Frank says:

    All things considered…not bad

  181. Jimmy McNulty says:

That old guy had a hot daughter.

  182. Greg says:

Could have been much worse. Rangers wasting opportunities too.

  183. mt says:

You can predict baseball – walking Taylor Teagarden to lead off an inning leads to certain doom.

  184. V says:

That inning is on Andruw Jones (and Girardi, for benching Gardner for Jones).

  185. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

So do we still love Pena for what he did yesterday?

  186. Jimmy McNulty says:

    Sigh…bad luck backwards K

  187. mt says:

We score 12 runs two straight times – now let’s see if we can maneuver our way through and win a close ball game – I do not want to lose another one run game here.

  188. Kostas says:

If the Yankees lose I blame Swisher for his constant sucking but mainly I blame Andrew Jones just for being in the line up.

    • Jimmy McNulty says:

That Swisher asshole hit a double yesterday.

      • Kostas says:

Good for him – still hitting just .231 and doesn’t EVEN catch the grief Jeter does. Based on that response, you must be ready to annoint Nunez and Pena as Great Yankees since they both hit HR’s yesterday.

        • Mike Axisa says:

Are you serious? He’s got 30 points of OBP on Jeter, 50 points of SLG, actually hits the ball in the air, and (until the last two games) doesn’t hit leadoff.

          • Kostas says:

About catching grief, Yes. The fact he doesn’t hit leadoff makes his numbers less than stellar, until you compare them directly to Jeter who is not there to produce runs as Swisher is, so really the comparison is apples to oranges.

Sorry, I like Swish but he is failing just as Jeter is this year.

            • Mike Axisa says:

…Jeter who is not there to produce runs…

You can’t be serious. What is he there for, his good looks?

            • Jetrer says:

              Swisher last 30 days: 247/394/481, 380 wOBA, 140 wRC+
He got off to an awful start, but he is producing now. Jeter, on the other hand, got off to an awful start and has been mediocre since.

        • Jetrer says:

uhh, Swisher, despite an awful start to the season, has better numbers than Jeter now. Swisher 229/355/371, 326 wOBA, 103 wRC+ , Jeter 260/324/324, .298 wOBA, 83 wRC+

    • Mike c says:

He’s awful, Gardner is a way better hitter, even on lefties

  189. Mister Delaware says:

Apparently yelling “FUCK!” isn’t outlawed in the straight edge rulebook.

  190. Klemy says:

Waldman. You are truly an idiot.

  191. Jimmy McNulty says:

Did Granderson lose a HR or something?

  192. Greg says:

Remember we’ve seen almost everybody in the Rangers bullpen and Wilson is at 76 pitches through 5 so we wont see him the whole game.

  193. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

Why do we suck so much in 1 run games?

  194. Greg says:

    Get the pen up

  195. Yank The Frank says:

I think Gordon may have run his course.

  196. Cy Pettitte says:

    <3 you Russell

  197. Jetrer says:

    I heart good catchers

  198. Karl Krawfid says:

    Martin is a man

  199. Greg says:

    IN TIME AGAIN!

  200. Urban says:

Good to see Rangers being thrown out after last year’s ALCS.

  201. Elnino'sboomstick says:

Granderson thinking man its nice not to have back up second on every steal

  202. Nico says:

    Noesi time.. phew

  203. X-62 says:

    Cashman on Cervelli,LOL

Cashman was brutally honest as usual when it came to the backup catcher situation. Russell Martin is back in the lineup after missing seven of the last eight games. Francisco Cervelli, who has struggled offensively and defensively, had subbed for him. Cashman wants top catching prospect Jesus Montero to play. That’s why he isn’t being brought up to back up Martin and get occasional DH at-bats.

“Is Montero better than Cervelli? Yes he is,” Cashman said.

    • MannyGeee says:

sooooooo do something for the good for your team and do the two headed monster approach. we have all covered it ad nausium here.

      • CP says:

While it’s conceivably possible to have a balance with Martin C, Posada DH and Montero C/DH, it would be difficult to actually pull off and there are benefits to letting him catch every day. Personally, I would have liked to see Martin go on the DL when he aggravated his back and call up Montero, but when Martin’s healthy there’s little benefit to having Montero in the majors.

As to Cashman’s original comment… Hello Captain Obvious.

  204. Xstar7 says:

That was about as good of a start as you could expect from Gordon. Now its up to this offense to get something going.

    • CBean says:

Yeah, Gordon did fine for a first start. The Yankees left a million men on base and CJ Wilson’s a pretty good pitcher so we weren’t going to have those opportunities forever. We really should have many more runs on the board.

  205. first time lawng time says:

    This ump is baaaaad.

  206. Kostas says:

I don’t know if this is one of those things or just the beginning but I like this Noesi>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>than Nova.

  207. Urban says:

Rangers ran themselves out of run that inning, most likely. The downside of SBs, especially when guys like Murphy try to steal. Screw claws and antler.

  208. mike_h says:

    Offense. Now. Please

  209. ansky says:

    Ump is better now

  210. Xstar7 says:

This umpire just loves giving CJ that outer-half of the plate call.

  211. ansky says:

Pena not hitting again today right?
    Arod will be hitting RIGHT?

  212. Greg says:

Gardner will come next I bet

  213. Urban says:

    Those chains look stupid.

  214. Cy Pettitte says:

    hip hip!

  215. Xstar7 says:

    I LOVE YOU JORGE

  216. Greg says:

    HIP HIP

  217. Urban says:

Thank heavens Girardi had the good sense to play Posada.

  218. ansky says:

    Hip Hip

  219. the tenth inning stretch says:

    HIP HIP.

  220. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    Hip Hip tie game!!

  221. MannyGeee says:

now that is how a DH should hit, sorta

  222. FIPster Doofus says:

    He ain’t dead yet.

  223. Stratman9652 says:

Was I the only one scarred that Posada was going to stretch that into a triple?

  224. Ted Nelson says:

Cano walked and Posada got an XBH from the right side in the same inning… it may be spring in NY, but it’s awfully cold in hell.

  225. Carl says:

Jorge’s hot hitting, man. It is incredible.

  226. MannyGeee says:

sorry if anyone has asked this alreddy Mike, but what are you thinking for tomorrow? chat roll through the day game?

  227. the tenth inning stretch says:

So glad Martin didn’t have to be DL’ed. He’s looking fresh out there, I really think they ran him into the ground and he just needed some time.

  228. Cy Pettitte says:

Irabu, shirtless, covered in magnets held on by band-aids must have been a sight to see.

  229. MannyGeee says:

    wow.

remember then Nunez used to be a good hitter? last night?

  230. Urban says:

Jeter at least would have tapped a slow roller to third to make that last out interesting.

  231. tut says:

    Does Gordon get another start?

  232. Elnino'sboomstick says:

Noesi squeezed on that at bat

  233. Mike Axisa says:

Are they seriously intentionally walking him with NO OUTS?!?!?

  234. Greg says:

    DOUBLE PLAY!

  235. Urban says:

That would have been a triple play if A-Rod was playing third.

  236. MannyGeee says:

    Nino!

or maybe thats what Sterling calls all young skinny Dominican boys…

  237. Xstar7 says:

Beautiful. Intentionally walking Hamilton has worked twice now.

    • Urban says:

      Once.

The first time did lead to a run after Hamilton was hit, although the damage was minimal. Hamilton might have hit a line drive somewhere, too, opening up a big inning. We’ll never know.

      • Xstar7 says:

The first time only lead to a run because of the hit batsman. That inning could have been much worse. Either way, They shouldn’t be intentionally walking anybody this much.

  238. tom says:

There’s questionable strategy — OK, ludicrous strategy — paying off big time

  239. Elnino'sboomstick says:

Noesi moving up the food chain in the pen

  240. Rob says:

Joe G’s binder called, it wanted to tell everyone they can suck it

  241. CBean says:

    Good job little Noesi!

  242. Mister Delaware says:

You’re forgetting about the 1st inning, but I still love you, Paulie.

  243. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

Ortiz in CF would be fun

  244. the tenth inning stretch says:

So with Wilson over 100 pitches, who comes out for the 8th, him or Lowe?

  245. MannyGeee says:

LOL that pinstriped Ford Explorer is fucking gaudy.

  246. Cy Pettitte says:

nice clean inning on 11 pitches

  247. MannyGeee says:

D Robbb!!! the high socks have spoken.

  248. Jim S says:

    David Robertson is a beast.

  249. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

I forgot, Nolan Ryan wants his pitcher’s arms to fall off.

  250. tom says:

Wilson would never be out there if not for Nolan Ryan’s Macho Man policy.

Girardi seems to be counting on the Yanks scoring quickly. Once he’s past DRo and Mo, it’s a thin bullpen.

  251. Mike Axisa says:

Heh, Robbie’s got some ground ball luck today.

  252. Yank The Frank says:

    Find the hole Robbie Cano!
    That’s what she said…

  253. Kostas says:

So does this qualify as thinking outside the box for Girardi that he did not pinch hit Gardner for Jones so he could bunt.

  254. ansky says:

Wouldn’t now be a good time for Alex?

  255. V says:

That whole sitting-Gardner-for-Jones thing sure worked out today…

  256. Kostas says:

AJ Burnett would have been a better choice than Andrew Jones….

  257. Urban says:

Ron Washington: You’re out of here, CJ.

CJ: Ron, let me stay in and I’ll score you some crack cocaine later.

    Washington: Ok.

  258. King of Fruitless Hypotheticals says:

127 pitches??? do they not have a bullpen? if they’re that afraid…PLEASE let us get into NOW!!!

  259. Hall and Nokes says:

Hope Dr. Andrews doesn’t have anything too pressing tomorrow.

  260. Mister Delaware says:

Sooo … fair to say Jorgie is in full “guess hitter” mode, huh?

  261. Urban says:

    130 pitches? 130 pitches?!!! This isn’t 1988. Pitchers can’t throw 130 pitches today. They’ll burst into dust.

Nice game by CJ, considering he should be losing.

  262. Karl Krawfid says:

    God that looked horrible

  263. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

I wouldn’t be totally surprised if Wilson goes out for the 9th too

  264. Urban says:

Ummm, who do we have for the 10th if we don’t win it in the 9th?

  265. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    Bunting = FAIL.

    Take note Girardi

  266. the tenth inning stretch says:

Chavez with the Derek Jeter bunt and then a nice tackle.

  267. Xstar7 says:

Teixeira looked pissed when Endy Chavez ran into him catching that pop up.

  268. Mister Delaware says:

Endy Chavez is on that list of people I’ve decided are probably really nice guys despite absolutely no evidence to support.

  269. Karl Krawfid says:

Mo is on the side of the ball again.

  270. the tenth inning stretch says:

Nice play by the Karate Kid at third.

  271. Yank The Frank says:

    I WANT PIE!!

  272. CBean says:

Pie would be a fantastic way to end this homestand.

  273. Urban says:

I like that AJ was walking toward the club house. He’s going in search of his pie gear. He assumes we’ll need pie. I hope he’s right.

  274. Jetrer says:

AJ to the clubhouse in search of pie

  275. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

Mo threw 10 pitches. If we don’t win it, does Mo go another inning? I can only remember him pitching once on this homestand in the first Cleveland game so he’s had time off.

  276. the tenth inning stretch says:

    MUSCLE.

  277. Hall and Nokes says:

What makes you guys think that Martin, Nunez & Pena will not produce a run?

  278. Mike Axisa says:

Oh jeez. Here comes the bunt.

  279. Cy Pettitte says:

    Russell looks so much better

  280. Jetrer says:

I hope Nunez bunting means ARod is available to pinch hit

  281. Esteban says:

I don’t know if this was discusses but:

“Is Montero better than Cervelli? Yeah, he is,” Cashman said. “But Montero is not on the roster right now. If Russell Martin is not going to be a DL [situation] and it’s going to be a day-to-day thing I’m not going to bring a guy for a day or two.”

    Read more: http://www.nypost.com/p/blogs/.....z1PTFzL9h7

  282. Urban says:

Does Giradi even know if Nunez can bunt? Or is he just giving up an out for the hell of it?

    • Urban says:

Okay, he can bunt. Now Alex up to be walked, although that’s still better since it means Pena won’t hit.

  283. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

Why bunt with Pena up next? If you PH Arod they just walk him.

  284. Kevin says:

    ugh….

  285. Greg says:

    Here cmes AROD

  286. Xstar7 says:

At least he got the bunt down. If he had bunt failed, there would be a hole in my wall right now.

  287. Yank The Frank says:

    Swish will end it.

  288. Stratman9652 says:

Yay, the bunt worked now you have two baserunners!!!!one!!!111eleven!

  289. Greg says:

They could bring in Gardner for Swisher

  290. AndrewYF says:

Michael Kay explains why bunting was dumb:

    this situation.

  291. CBean says:

Swisher, please don’t hit into a double play.

  292. Guns of the Navarone says:

Fucking unclutch IBB by A-Rod just padding is OBP.

  293. Mike Axisa says:

No righty vs. Swish? This is a gift.

  294. Stratman9652 says:

Apparently, Ron Washington does not know about Swisher’s fondness for pie…

  295. Mike Axisa says:

That … looked like a strike.

  296. Karl Krawfid says:

    Swish looks horrible against Oliver.

  297. the tenth inning stretch says:

Washington and Girardi are trying to out-head-scratch each other.

  298. Guns of the Navarone says:

Wow… Ron Washington makes Girardi look like a scholar.

  299. Yank The Frank says:

Ron is getting the urge for some blow.

  300. CBean says:

    COME ON GRANDERSLAM!

  301. the tenth inning stretch says:

    Granderslam, please?

  302. Greg says:

All Grandy needs is a sac fly

  303. Karl Krawfid says:

Walk off Slam and I’ll go insane.

I’ll take a base hit also though.

  304. Greg says:

    NO GRANDY!

  305. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

    Curtis that was garbage

  306. Xstar7 says:

    The Grandyman can’t.

  307. Karl Krawfid says:

    Jesus Grandy why

  308. Kostas says:

Well that sucked. RISP fear again.

  309. Mister Delaware says:

CUT GRANDERSON OR YOU SUCK CASHMAN!!!

  310. Esteban says:

    GRANDERSON SUCKS!!!!

say the people that just started watching baseball 5 minutes ago.

  311. swishers fauxhawk says:

    Fail with a capital F.

  312. Urban says:

    Up to you Tex.

  313. Chey K says:

    Noooooo…..

  314. the tenth inning stretch says:

    Good rip by Teix.

  315. Hall and Nokes says:

Yikes, was that as far off the plate as the gamecast showed it?

    [really far]

    • Mister Delaware says:

I’m pretty sure Curtis just wanted to remind us how he used to look against lefties.

    • Karl Krawfid says:

      Very far man.

Grandy missed a fastball down the middle.

Then swung at a ball down and in. In the right hand batters box.

  316. Guns of the Navarone says:

    wow

  317. Xstar7 says:

    Wow. Typical Yankees.

  318. Kostas says:

Well that sucked. RISP fear again.

    So freaking predictable.

  319. Greg says:

    FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK

  320. Tut says:

    F’n ckoke

  321. Chey K says:

    ah man!

  322. Dino Velvet says:

    uh, fuck

  323. Ivan says:

    Ugh…

  324. the tenth inning stretch says:

I am in complete shock. Wow, what a total failure.

  325. tom says:

Our two best guys up, and no dice. Cue John Sterling.

Super-tight games really seem to bring out the un-clutch in this team.

  326. Thomas Cassidy says:

Fuck Tex. Giambi with a better glove.

  327. Greg says:

Grandy was thinking about hitting it out. Play small ball. All you need is a sac fly or walk

  328. Mister Delaware says:

C’mon, Swish. You have to handle that.

  329. first time lawng time says:

Ugh who’s in the pen after Mo?

  330. first time lawng time says:

Ugh who’s in the pen after Mo? Assuming the Yanks don’t lose in the 10th.

  331. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

How about just quickly ending it with a HR?

  332. Xstar7 says:

Hopefully they can get something going this time. But that last inning was just disgusting. This team definitely has a RISP fail complex now.

  333. King George says:

Ugh, I can’t believe we are watching this still. Disappointed we couldn’t do much last inning. But we’ll get pie this inning!

  334. Rob says:

man, i wish we had melky on the bench

  335. Yes, obviously he’d bunt in front of Posada, Nunez, and Pena.

  336. NHYankeesFan says:

Cano, just because its 3-1 doesnt mean you have to swing

  337. first time lawng time says:

If they don’t win this inning, they’re done. Their BP is crap.

  338. the tenth inning stretch says:

How about an inside-the-park HR for the game-winner?

  339. IRF says:

Its a good thing he sat the last two days!

  340. Greg says:

Girardi now looks a bit foolish
But Gardner needs to steal this bag.

  341. Mike Axisa says:

He has to steal this base.

  342. Chey K says:

Come on Georgie!! Raise that .088 ave against lefties!

  343. ansky says:

Do all the Rangers lefties have awful moves?

  344. King of Fruitless Hypotheticals says:

That first pitch looked like it was close enough for Jorge to lean into…

  345. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    Brett, listen to Paul O’Neill

  346. Kostas says:

    Gardner needs to be running.

  347. ansky says:

    We need Homer Bush back

  348. Cy Pettitte says:

    what the fuck beltre

  349. Mike Axisa says:

Haha. Of course that’s when he finally runs.

  350. first time lawng time says:

    WTF.

  351. Jetrer says:

    fucking bad luck

  352. IRF says:

    Holy crap Beltre

  353. Are you fucking kidding me?

  354. Karl Krawfid says:

    Posada is just horrible.

    LET HIM STEAL

    • Ted Nelson says:

There are these crazy things called signs… that’s the sign-language looking stuff the 3rd base coach does when he looks like he’s scratching himself and stuff.

  355. Guns of the Navarone says:

See, luck plays no part in baseball.

  356. ansky says:

He goes on the 1st pitch that doesn’t happen. Beltre doesn’t guard the line, etc…

  357. Chey K says:

    Guess not…

  358. Xstar7 says:

    unbelievable. this game is over

  359. the tenth inning stretch says:

    Of course.

  360. King of Fruitless Hypotheticals says:

    SBBIP bad luck?

  361. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    Fuck Beltre

  362. Cy Pettitte says:

Cory Wade leap frogged Ayala and Logan

  363. Urban says:

Jeez, with Gardner running and that bull pulled down the line, I don’t think it would have set up the winning run, I think Gardner would have scored.

It’s all Posada’s fault for hitting the ball hard.

  364. tom says:

All those who say the Yanks’ RISP fail is strictly on them, take a look at that play again. Game almost certainly over.

And remember that White Sox game, with the two 9th inning circus catches? Two games the team had won, but the juju went bad on them.

  365. Yank The Frank says:

    I like this Corey Wade

    • King of Fruitless Hypotheticals says:

no way. 20% of the pitches were balls. PLUS it took 10 pitches to end the inning. cut him now.

  366. tom says:

Meantime, this Wade guy is certainly starting off well.

  367. Karl Krawfid says:

That is the Robbie we all know and love

  368. the tenth inning stretch says:

Nice quick inning, let’s get some runs, dudes.

  369. JobaWockeeZ says:

Well anytime the offense wants to get a clutch hit (or walk) is fine by me.

  370. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

Is Wade someone who can go more than 1 inning?

  371. Cy Pettitte says:

    nice play by Robbie

solid inning by Wade, hopefully Joe found his new 7th inning guy.

  372. Rob says:

nice inning by wade, i do have faith in arod

  373. Xstar7 says:

Nice inning by Wade. CAN WE PLEASE HAVE SOME PIE NOW?

  374. jay h says:

    calling an A-Rod walk off

  375. Guns of the Navarone says:

    Due up: A-RAWD!! Game over.

  376. Mike says:

Martin single, Nunez bunt AROD WALK OFF

  377. Elnino'sboomstick says:

Dont worry guys girardi secret weapon still on the bench just waiting to explode.

  378. King of Fruitless Hypotheticals says:

You know Wade had some butterflies to start his career w/NY like this–and to smoke that inning like that AND be in line for the free baseball win? Nice.

  379. Xstar7 says:

Great way to start off the inning Martin.

  380. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

Eduardo — Here comes the walk off.

  381. Mike Axisa says:

Cory Wade has more 1-2-3 innings than Rafael Soriano.

  382. Jetrer says:

    walk, steal, ARod walkoff

  383. Xstar7 says:

Good at-bat by Nunez. More of those please.

  384. Stratman9652 says:

Watch Nunez steal on the first pitch…

  385. MannyGeee says:

    A-Rod…. what to do

  386. Urban says:

Don’t be silly, Michael. Joe will have Alex bunt here.

  387. V says:

Come on, steal 2nd here. I don’t care about the IBB – runners on 1st and 2nd is better than runner on 1st, even if you swap ARod for Nunez.

  388. V says:

Come on, steal 2nd here. I don’t care about the IBB – runners on 1st and 2nd is better than runner on 1st, even if you swap ARod for Swisher.

  389. Urban says:

Man, the Yanks are have BABIP bad luck.

  390. Xstar7 says:

The Yankees are getting BABIP fucked

  391. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    We’ve been BABIP fucked today…

  392. Jetrer says:

ok, now he needs to steal

  393. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

    Shiiiet.

  394. MannyGeee says:

I think a swisher sweet is in order

  395. Guns of the Navarone says:

Where are all these home runs I keep hearing about?

  396. Kostas says:

C’mon Swish. Set aside your failure and produce.

  397. Elnino'sboomstick says:

How about this Cervelli hits the walkoff HR
And afterwards burnett pies him misses and pokes him in the forcing thebyankees to bring up Jesus

  398. JobaWockeeZ says:

Ah 2009 where I used to love these situations.

  399. Karl Krawfid says:

    I blame Granderson.

  400. Rob says:

that sucks, tough hitters coming up

  401. Xstar7 says:

Boone Logan is warming up. SHIIIIIT

  402. Cy Pettitte says:

    filthy change ups

  403. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    WHAT???? We didn’t IBB Hamilton????

  404. the tenth inning stretch says:

    Cory Wade, Twelfth Inning Guy.

  405. King of Fruitless Hypotheticals says:

    Cory Wade. Good at baseball?

  406. Jetrer says:

Wade = impressive (so far anyways)

  407. Dino Velvet says:

Jeter looks so young in that Ford commercial

  408. Yank The Frank says:

    The GrandyMan Can.

  409. the tenth inning stretch says:

Wade deserves a win after those 2 innings. Score, please.

  410. CBean says:

I went to a meeting and came back and nothing changed. (also nearly called a coworker a Tank in a meeting)

  411. the tenth inning stretch says:

Granderspeed on base for Teix, A-Rod, and Cano. Hits this time, por favor.

  412. Xstar7 says:

Why couldn’t you do that in the 9th? Oh well, Let’s get some pie

  413. King of Fruitless Hypotheticals says:

    nothing grander than stealing second?

  414. Xstar7 says:

    Double steal now?
