Game 67: Gettin’ Away

Yankees add Gordon to roster, demote Pendleton, release Sanit
Yankees will look into Kazmir

The Yankees have already won this series against the Rangers, so all that’s left is to finish off the sweep before getting away and heading to Chicago for the NL park leg of the interleague schedule. Brian Gordon is in fact getting the start, and he prepared for today by playing long toss with a staffer in the park across the street from Yankee Stadium yesterday. Oh, and Alex Rodriguez isn’t in today’s lineup. After DH’ing yesterday, I think it’s safe to say he’s banged up. Either that or they’re just resting him before six straight games in NL parks. Here’s the lineup…

Nick Swisher, RF
Curtis Granderson, CF
Mark Teixeira, 1B
Robinson Cano, 2B
Andruw Jones, LF – poor Brett Gardner
Jorge Posada, DH
Russell Martin, C – oh hey, welcome back Russ
Eduardo Nunez, SS
Ramiro Pena, 3B

Brian Gordon, SP

The game can be seen on YES locally or MLB Network nationally, but if you’re stuck in the office you can always listen on WCBS 880. First pitch is scheduled for a little after 1pm ET. Enjoy.

    There it is!

Flash, ahhhhhhh! Savior of the Universe!

    Go get ‘em, dude.

  • Rob

I just saw on twitter that arod is 1 for 13 off wilson. i hope that is why he’s not playing, and the fact that he will play 6 days straight at 3rd.

    • NC Saint

That would be a deeply stupid reason to sit him.

      • Cuso

He’s just due for a day off is all.

  • Pat D

    Ah, The Allentown Morning Call.

    Absolutely horrible newspaper.

    • Cuso

Well, we’re living here in Allentowwwwwnnnnnnn, for the Pennsylvania we never founddd…..

      • Pat D

I don’t live in Allentown, but that’s where I work.

I always thought Bethlehem was the city that got hurt worse, because that’s where the steel industry was centered.

This area (the Lehigh Valley) isn’t anything like that Bill Joel song anymore. The population in this area has been increasing a lot, mostly due to yuppies from New Jersey and New York moving into all these new housing developments.

        Frankly, it’s pretty disgusting.

  • Nigel Bangs

Oh man, love me some day games. Go get em Yanks!

  • Elnino’sboomstick

Lets hope this gordon guy is Gold.

  • Pat D

    http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/.....id=6668522

Of course this is on the ESPN front page.

  • Greg

    Anybody know Gordon’s repetoire?

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

Brian Gordon has an interesting story. Hopefully he’ll have at least somewhat of a quality start.

  • Cy Pettitte

hopefully this guy pitches well, he could be a weapon in interleague

  • the tenth inning stretch

Brian Gordon looks a lot like Jeremy Bonderman.

    That’s my expert analysis.

    • Mister Delaware

If I did nothing but watch the games on mute, I’d wonder why Gaudin was brought back. (Atleast until he struck out Hamilton.)

  • CBean

aw they don’t have a picture of Gordon in a Yankee hat for mlb.com

    • Klemy

Give them a day to photoshop it.

  • Cy Pettitte

it is soooooo nice to have Russell back

  • Greg

    IN TIME!

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

    I missed you Russell

  • Hester Prynne

A great throw from the C for a change.

  • Yank The Frank

    Marin’s back is ok.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    Martin>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Cervelli

    /statingtheobvious

  • Elnino’sboomstick

They thought cervelli was catching lol

  • Pat D

    Did Nunez miss the tag?

    • Guns of the Navarone

I thought it just brushed him on the cheek. Tough call though.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

What a throw by Martin. Also nice inning by Gordon.

  • Rob

martin doesn’t have nearly the arm cervelli’s got, cervelli can get it to granderson every time

    • the tenth inning stretch

      I laughed.

  • mike_h

    so far so good

  • the tenth inning stretch

Wow, that wasn’t even close, the throw beat him by a mile.

  • Pat D

Wide ass zone by this ump.

  • the tenth inning stretch

Wow, that looked like 4 straight balls…

  • Greg

Gave the outside pitch to Gordon so…

  • Elnino’sboomstick

Swisher says you aint moving me out of the lead off spot again

    • Klemy

Unless, of course, he were to do something terrible on the bases! lol

  • the tenth inning stretch

    Oh geez.

  • Pat D

    Motherfucker!

  • Cy Pettitte

    come on Nick….

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

    Crap.

  • Mister Delaware

    Oh Swish …

  • Elnino’sboomstick

They need to stop letting posada give base running tips to the guys

  • IRF

Way to kill the inning Swish

  • Pat D

Beltre looked surprised that Andrus didn’t catch the ball.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Why is Grandy still on first?

    • Greg

Andrus deked him into thinking that he caught the ball.

  • Karl Krawfid

    Ah Swish.

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

Everyone on this team needs to go to a base running clinic.

  • Yank The Frank

At least Curtis went to seco. Heads up.

  • Karl Krawfid

    Should be 1 zero noooo

  • http://twitter.com/urbainshockcor Urban

That would have been an RBI.

    Had to say it!

  • Elnino’sboomstick

Why is grandy still on first Teagarden

    • http://twitter.com/urbainshockcor Urban

…because if he runs he’ll get thrown out?

  • Cuso

Swisher can’t help himself. When he does something good (singles), he compelled to screw up as quickly as possible (overslides bag).

  • Cy Pettitte

way to run themselves out of an inning.

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

    Grandy was out

  • Pat D

    Jeez.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Two outs on the bases in the first inning. Bah.

  • Guns of the Navarone

    Lovely inning on the bases.

  • Karl Krawfid

    Good defense from both teams.

  • the tenth inning stretch

Wow nice call by the 2b ump. In live speed he looked pretty safe.

    • http://twitter.com/urbainshockcor Urban

I thought Swisher was safe until they showed the final replay.

BTW Notice how YES will show four different replays, none of which will show the clear answer on a play, but then they’ll show the slow-mo YES angle two minutes later that does show the answer? They have that play immediately, but they purposely drag it out, when all I want to see is the money shot. Annoying.

      • CP

More likely, they have to look at the replays in real time to find the right one.

  • CBean

Sterling just said about Mark’s flyout “that’s a sac fly for an RBI” and then paused and said “of course there’s no runner on 3rd.”

    • Guns of the Navarone

I rarely, if ever, listen to the game on the radio but over the last couple of weeks or so I’ve turned it on two separate times and BOTH times he called a HR that ended up being caught at the track. He must screw up all the time. If he’s not the worst play-by-play announcer, I want to know who is.

      • CBean

Yeah, I listen to At-Bat when i’m in the office. I occasionally will switch to the Away feed but then I get tired of the Yankee hating and have to come back to Sterling and his nonsense.

    • sjferrari

John Sterling after Mark Teixeria’s first-inning homerun yesterday: “His two-run blast ties the game at 1!” That’s impressive. Love me some Sterling.

      • Guns of the Navarone

        Are you serious??

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

Wait I thought Jorge and Gardner weren’t playing today

    • Nico

      WAT U ON ABOUT?!!!1

    • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

Oh, Jorge’s the DH. But when did he hit in the 1st inning?

  • Elnino’sboomstick

Since when is the guy allowed to block the bag?

    • Mister Delaware

You can block the bag if you like, but if you get a rep for it guys will start coming in spikes first.

  • Cuso

    faced the minimum. Ugh.

    • Greg

techinically not but I see what you say

  • Kostas

And that kids, is how to properly take your team out of an inning. Brought to you by the fine people at Roto Rooter. “Roto Rooter, let’s flush that clog away.”

    • Greg

Agressive paly will win you a lot of ball games.

    • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

Swish just overslid the base and Teagarden made a great throw.

  • the tenth inning stretch

Good curveball so far from Gordon.

  • Elnino’sboomstick

Did kim get a nose job ?

  • Nico

I thought his fastball was high 80s but Gameday says all his FBs have been 91.
Also, one of his pitches got 100 nasty factor haha

  • http://twitter.com/urbainshockcor Urban

Brian Gordon was born locally, West Point, NY, but went to school in Texas. I wonder if he was an army brat.

  • http://twitter.com/urbainshockcor Urban

Cano used to make those plays.

  • Elnino’sboomstick

    Wtf robbie?

    • jon

at least he got to the ball that was pretty impressive

  • Mister Delaware

    What a lazy bobble …

  • Karl Krawfid

    Thanks again Cano

    • mt

      Our “Gold Glove” second baseman

  • Yank The Frank

Lately it seems every game Robbie doesn’t make a play he should prolonging the inning.

  • Guns of the Navarone

    Aaron Small-ish.

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

That could have been ugly. Nice job by Gordon so far.

  • the tenth inning stretch

Gordon picks up Robbie. He looks good so far.

  • Cy Pettitte

will be interesting to see his second time through the line up, he’s getting away with pretty much just the fastball and curve right now

  • Jetrer

    From LoHud:
“Is Montero better than Cervelli? Yes he is,” Cashman said.

    http://yankees.lhblogs.com/201.....es+Blog%29

    • Guns of the Navarone

Yeah. It turns out the Yankees GM isn’t completely dense.

      • Jetrer

except that Montero is in AAA and Cervelli is on the Yankees

        • Guns of the Navarone

He’s stated on a number of occasions that he doesn’t want to bring him up if he won’t get the chance to get regular playing time. It makes perfect sense.

          • Jetrer

except he could easily play at least 4 days a week – 2 catcher, 2-3 DH. Posada was brought up as a part timer and that worked out fine. Oh, and both Cash and Girardi said in spring training that they would be willing to ease Montero in that way.

            • Guns of the Navarone

And do what with Posada? Release him? It looked like that was going to be the case but he’s starting hitting again. The Yankees really have no need to rush him up right now. Cash said this week that if Russell Martin goes on the DL that Montero would get the call up. That’s probably the way it should be, in my opinion.

Unless something happens to Posada or Martin, there’s really no place to put Montero.

              • Jetrer

Posada still plays like he has been. Platoon DH. Martin plays 4-5 days at catcher with Montero the other 2. Posada DH 4 days with Montero the other 2-3.

    • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

Of course he is. But that doesn’t mean we should call him up yet.

  • Nico

Does anyone feel excited for Gordon to have a good game? I don’t care about the prospect nonsense yet, they’ll have their time in September. If this guy gives the Yankees a couple of good starts it would be great.

    • Guns of the Navarone

I am officially on the bandwagon.

    • jon

its a nice story and who the hell doesnt like a nice story?

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

    Robbie crushed that.

  • Nico

One question, does anyone know what the Nasty Factor actually represents?

    • Karl Krawfid

      Nastiness

    • Pat D

      Nothing that means anything.

    • MannyGeee

the pitches attitude when you ask it to put out its ciggerette or turn its music down…

  • the tenth inning stretch

Wow, Yanks getting the luck now.

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

Wow. Jones definitely swung at that.

    • Nick

shh the umps will hear you

  • NHYankeesFan

Wow! I cant believe Andruw swung at that, even thought it wasnt called

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

There’s our obligatory double play for the day.

  • Karl Krawfid

    Woo Posada!

    • Nico

      Woo to his heir!

      • Karl Krawfid

Hell yeah. Cervelli sucks. Healthy Martin makes me :)

  • Jim S

I know ESPN Gamecast’s strike zone is terrible, but it had the first pitch to Posada smack in the middle of the zone and labeled as a ball.

I hope that’s ESPN’s poor technology and not the ump.

  • the tenth inning stretch

    Time for some muscle.

  • Elnino’sboomstick

Posada just made me remember jeter (snif snif)

  • Yank The Frank

    2 out bingo!!

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

    Missed you, Russ.

  • Cy Pettitte

nice to have good Russell back

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

Russell, It’s sooooo nice to have you back.

  • Klemy

    Hell yeah.

  • NHYankeesFan

    Russel has muscles

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

There you go Russell, there you go.

  • CBean

    Welcome back, Russ!

  • Greg

    Bobbled

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

    Lol Beltre

  • NHYankeesFan

Kay seems to be really confused with what the count is

  • the tenth inning stretch

    Lolz Beltre.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    Bobble-tre

    • Nick

      lol

  • mt

And wwe also have Rangers “Gold Glove” third basemen – LOL!

  • the tenth inning stretch

When SWB came to Rochester this spring, at one of the games I went to, Pena was the DH. I was so confused.

    • Stratman9652

Gus Molina DH’d a couple of the games I went to in Syracuse… and he was actually productive.

  • Nico

Well Ramiro already has his annual homerun.
    Wait til’ next year!

  • Karl Krawfid

    double swim move lol

  • Urban

Yeah, but, Al, that’s what always used to do! He was still a good pitcher, but funny to hear him talking about “throwing stikes.”

  • Yank The Frank

Gordon is a strike throwing machine.

  • ansky

    Sick Curve, Love it

  • Spectra

I have to say it 6 baserunners in 2 innings … only 1 run. Really? come on

  • Cy Pettitte

    I give that 0-2 curve a 95 nasty factor

  • Meat Loaf

For some reason, watching him throw hard strike after strike is really enjoyable to watch.

  • Nico (or Brian Gordon’s Fan Group)

    Check out my name ;)

  • ansky

Al Leiter just used Gordon in same sentence as Halladay, and Maddux.

  • Urban

Gordon to the rotation; Nova to the pen!

    /bandwagon’d

    • jon

      where is gordon right now?

      • Urban

He’s filling in for someone injured.

  • Yank The Frank

Nick made up for over sliding 3rd.

  • Joe

30 pitches. 24 strikes. Video game numbers right there.

  • ansky

    He looks pitcherish

  • mt

I know rangers haven’t seen him before so it helps Gordon but nice to see swings and misses on that curve (Ivan Nova, take notes.)

  • Jetrer

this damn leadoff hitter keeps getting on base. I’m not used to this.

    • Urban

You might not have noticed Jeter was leading MLB in getting on base leading off a game or an inning.

      • Jetrer

yeah I know. I was talking about his overall .324 OBP. Unfortunately for Jeter, games don’t end after the first inning.

      • JobaWockeeZ

Which is a really selective size…

  • Nico

Wilson has thrown more pitches than Gordon in one inning less haha

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

    Grandy just keeps on hitting

  • Yank The Frank

    Curtis is on fire!

  • Yank The Frank

    Productive out.

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

C’mon Cano. Get a sac fly at least.

  • Greg

    LOB

  • Guns of the Navarone

    AndrUw with the one-eye black?

  • Mister Delaware

YES is fun right now. O’Neill and Leiter talking and Kay sitting silently.

  • Urban

Many opportunities; too many left on base.

    • Greg

well we could have zero runs. Remember the run came on a 2 out hit.

      • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Though could also have five runs. Easy to imagine scenarios.

        • Greg

If we follow the minimalist rules we should have at least 2 runs.

  • Greg

    I hate Mike Maddux.

    • pat

I think I just hate his facial hair.

      • FIPster Doofus

I hate his constant mound visits.

  • Elnino’sboomstick

This cj wilson is going to make some money in FA

  • Kostas

    Andrew Jones… Killing me.

  • Guns of the Navarone

Yeah I don’t get how peaking behind you would be cheating. If I were playing I would try to sneak a peak every chance I got to see where the catcher was setting up.

    • CMP

That rule was made by the same guy who said you can’t walk across the pitchers mound.

      • MannyGeee

        get off my mound!!!

        /InDa209’d

  • Yank The Frank

    I’m likeing this Gordon guy.

    • Greg

I like him for bullpen work. Throws strikes and 2 good pitches.

    • Clay Bellinger

He reminds me of a right handed Jimmy Key. Same number, same build.

  • the tenth inning stretch

I love it when Leiter basically tells Kay, “No, you’re wrong.”

  • Karl Krawfid

This game just got boring :(

  • FIPster Doofus

I’m so effing sick of Moreland. Go away.

    • FIPster Doofus

On second thought, I just looked up his stats v. NYY and they aren’t very good. Confirmation bias, I guess.

      • Guns of the Navarone

I have the same thing with Murphy. For some reason I always think he kills the Yankees.

  • Karl Krawfid

    Good pitch, bad result

  • Greg

    He needs a changeup.

  • MannyGeee

just checked in at the top of the 4th. can I get a summary?

    (preferably in haiku form?)

    • CBean

      Gordon is not bad
Yanks leave many men on base
      Welcome back Russell!

      How’s that?

      • MannyGeee

        nailed it!!!

      • King George

        +100

        Well done

  • CBean

    Sterling on Tex’s play

“I don’t know if he’s the best fielding first baseman, but I know there’s no one better.”

    um, what?

    • MannyGeee

I heard that. there’s no way he really means anything he says. I think he’s trying to tap into that ‘Yogi-ism’ money

    • Urban

It’s just a twist of a phrase. It’s a Sterling-esque way of saying he believes Tex is the best.

  • Greg

He’s been calling that outside strike all day.

  • Urban

Lou Gehrig was sick before he was 39.

  • MannyGeee

LOL I picked the perfect game to finally sit Russell Martin and pick up a back up catcher huh?

    Fantasy Fail

  • bonestock94

Is it safe to think the Yankees will be in heavy on CJ Wilson? Solid lefty mid-rotation guy with experience in a hitters park, would love to see him in pinstripes.

    • Greg

      Control is an issue.

      • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Lack of track record, doesn’t get many swings and misses and doesn’t strike guys out. Not that young either, theoretically about to enter his decline.

You can make a case that after all those years as a reliever his arm is pretty fresh though.

        • Urban

He is a lefty and his home park may be the best offensive park in the game. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to look at him if he puts up another solid season as a starter, which he is doing.

        • bonestock94

Not a power guy though, maybe he’ll age gracefully. He’s been approaching 8 K/9 in 2010 and this year. Idk, somewhat risky but interesting.

      • Guns of the Navarone

He’s been better this season. Age is more of an issue for me.

        • Urban

          31 as a lefty? Doesn’t scare me.

      • MannyGeee

so we can pencil him in for 5/82.5, huh? AJ approves

      • bonestock94

A #3 isn’t gonna be perfect. He’s been better than average with BB/9 this season, though I wouldn’t expect that to last.

    • Elnino’sboomstick

If. CC opts out wilson would be a nice pick up

      • Greg

        Good point.

      • Jetrer

Wilson is nowhere near CC. Wilson maybe can complement CC, definitely can’t replace CC.

      • FIPster Doofus

CC’s going to opt out, but he’s also going to end up right back in a Yankees uniform. The Yankees are fucked if they let him go. CC knows it and they know it, so – with that kind of leverage – he’ll cash in big.

  • MannyGeee

nice DP by Noonie… are we officially out of love with him?

    • Greg

      Not yet.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    ugg…Don’t walk Taylor Teagarden

  • Urban

    Jeter would have had that.

    • Greg

With the hit and run no.

  • Greg

    Hit and run

  • the tenth inning stretch

Geez, now all the luck we were getting is going the other way.

  • Cy Pettitte

fuck BG would of had that.

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

    Gardner would have caught that

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

And this is where the Brian Gordon story takes a tragic turn.

    • MannyGeee

it was a feel good story for exactly 80 minutes

  • Urban

All those failed opportunities are going to come back now to haunt…

  • Greg

Gardner might have had that. And the roof might be about to cave in

  • Elnino’sboomstick

Third time. Through the line up
    Gardy would have got that

  • Karl Krawfid

One day they will stop sitting Gardner.

  • Mister Delaware

    Gardner!

  • MannyGeee

    uh oh

wheels falling off the Boom Flashy Flashy Gordon experiment

  • Jimmy McNulty

    CASHDUMMIE LOSS!!!!!!!1!!111!!111!!!one111

  • tut

Looks like the clock is about to strike 12

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

Maybe Joe will play Gardner against a lefty soon

  • tom

It’s not so much I’m sure Gardner would have had it. It’s that Jones didn’t seem to realize a play was even possible.

  • Mister Delaware

Here comes an IBB debate …

  • Elnino’sboomstick

This guy talking in the booth is sucking the life out of this game

    • Elnino’sboomstick

Serious get thisbguy to shut up already!

    • the tenth inning stretch

“We’re going to see the St. Louis Cardinals play the………Washington team.”

      • Elnino’sboomstick

Get this guy out of the booth

  • Jimmy McNulty

Oh speaking of Father’s Day, I got my old man a silk shirt…what’d you guys get him?

    • Mister Delaware

I didn’t get your dad anything. Hahahahahahaha!!!!!!!

  • Greg

    Nice K

  • the tenth inning stretch

Big K there. Hope Nova’s taking notes.

  • Karl Krawfid

    Why do this?

    Why do this!

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

On record as not liking this intentional walk.

    • Greg

      You said yourself Hamilton’s dangerous.

    • Mister Delaware

On record liking it. Lets roll!

    • Urban

On record being on the fence.

    • Mister Delaware

97% chance Hamilton would have tripled or homered. 3% chance something worse.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

Why IBB Hamilton with Yankee Killer Michael Young up next?

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Doesn’t make sense. Also no margin for error now, can’t pitch just off the plate to get him to fish. A walk or HBP scores a run.

      • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

        See?

        • Urban

Maybe Hamilton would have hit a HR. The kid (okay, he’s 32) doesn’t walk many. He has hit two baters, though. I remain on the fence. : -)

        • Mike c

Hamilton would have hit a 3 run homer

      • Klemy

        Mike Axisa – Prognosticator.

    • CBean

Sterling and Suzyn were just talking about Young being their best hitter right now.

  • tom

I know Michael Milken has done some redemptive things since, but, sorry, to me he’s still a frickin’ criminal who cost alot of people (including, OK, ME) much needed money.

But, you know…Anthony Weiner’ll be a pariah forever.

  • Jimmy McNulty

As far as benching Gardner goes, it seems that his biggest offensive strengths are speed and working the count…shouldn’t that work against LHP too?

    • Jetrer

.353 OBP v. Lefties this year

  • Karl Krawfid

Michael Young kills it at the new stadium. And against the Yankees.

    Don’t like this.

  • Yank The Frank

If this guy keeps talking I got to put it on mute.

    • Elnino’sboomstick

This guy is like slow death to the game

      • Urban

It’s for a good cause. Encourage the older men in your life to be tested.

That said, Milken showed up at the wrong time in the game!

  • Greg

    It worked for the moment

  • Cy Pettitte

Michael Young – not so scary anymore

  • MannyGeee

Sterling is one more out away from telling us the probability of being able to predict baseball.. He’s alredy given us the pre-curser “well, how do you like that….”

  • Jimmy McNulty

I have a feeling this guy is jinxing the team.

    • Jimmy McNulty

      See.

  • the tenth inning stretch

He’s in the 5th innging of his first MLB game and the fans are already chanting Brian Gordon’s name. Enjoy it, kid.

  • CBean

    Fuck!

  • Cy Pettitte

he’s turning into a pumpkin right before our eyes!

  • Hester Prynne

Boy, how do you like that? Yanks blow chance after chance and now Gordon hits a guy to drive on the go ahead run. You just can’t predict baseball.

  • Karl Krawfid

Man he stuck is elbow out.

  • Mister Delaware

On one hand, he elbowed the pitch. On the other, he’s not wearing a guard so I’m not going to complain.

  • Elnino’sboomstick

    Beltre acting like it hurt

  • Greg

    He stuck his elbow out

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

I was screaming at the TV for Gordon not to use that breaking ball.

  • MannyGeee

oooops. that was not in the plans

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Alright. All things considered, that’s not terrible. Good job limiting the damage.

  • tom

Now there’s a disheartening way to lose the lead. On an 0-2 pitch yet.

  • Yank The Frank

    All things considered…not bad

  • Jimmy McNulty

That old guy had a hot daughter.

  • Greg

Could have been much worse. Rangers wasting opportunities too.

  • mt

You can predict baseball – walking Taylor Teagarden to lead off an inning leads to certain doom.

  • V

That inning is on Andruw Jones (and Girardi, for benching Gardner for Jones).

    • Mister Delaware

You can’t blame a guy for not being a plus-plus fielder any more. That’s not how it works.

      • Urban

Right. He can still field. He’s just not one of the few greatest defensive CFers ever anymore.

Plus, the bench has to play. Gardner is not playing every game. People are not realistic.

        • Jetrer

it would have made a lot more sense to sit Posada and have Jones DH with Gardner in left. And Gardner just had yesterday off, he didn’t need the time off.

        • MannyGeee

but 2 games in a row? that is more than a rest day.

wonder if this has anything to do with the bases loaded bunt fail from tuesday night? sit down until you can think straight??

      • Jetrer

you can, however, blame Girardi for needlessly benching a plus-plus fielder

      • V

I can and will blame the guy.

    • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

No. It’s Gordon’s fault for getting himself in that jam and hitting Adrian Beltre.

      • Mister Delaware

Can’t we just chalk it up to “Texas has a really good offense so runs are probably inevitable”?

        • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

          NEVAH!!1!!!!1

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

So do we still love Pena for what he did yesterday?

    • Greg

      Yes

    • CMP

Yesterday? Who the heck can remember that far back.

    • Urban

      When’s Jeter coming back?

    • Karl Krawfid

      That was lefty Pena.

  • Jimmy McNulty

    Sigh…bad luck backwards K

  • mt

We score 12 runs two straight times – now let’s see if we can maneuver our way through and win a close ball game – I do not want to lose another one run game here.

    • MannyGeee

FWIW yesterdays game was pretty close in the 4th inning too.

      • mt

Yes, but I felt more confident about scoring off of Holland – I wonder whether we have left CJ Wilson off hook.

  • Kostas

If the Yankees lose I blame Swisher for his constant sucking but mainly I blame Andrew Jones just for being in the line up.

    • Jimmy McNulty

That Swisher asshole hit a double yesterday.

      • Kostas

Good for him – still hitting just .231 and doesn’t EVEN catch the grief Jeter does. Based on that response, you must be ready to annoint Nunez and Pena as Great Yankees since they both hit HR’s yesterday.

        • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Are you serious? He’s got 30 points of OBP on Jeter, 50 points of SLG, actually hits the ball in the air, and (until the last two games) doesn’t hit leadoff.

          • Kostas

About catching grief, Yes. The fact he doesn’t hit leadoff makes his numbers less than stellar, until you compare them directly to Jeter who is not there to produce runs as Swisher is, so really the comparison is apples to oranges.

Sorry, I like Swish but he is failing just as Jeter is this year.

            • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

…Jeter who is not there to produce runs…

You can’t be serious. What is he there for, his good looks?

              • CP

Clearly. Look at his contract. No one could seriously have thought Jeter would produce that many runs.

            • Jetrer

              Swisher last 30 days: 247/394/481, 380 wOBA, 140 wRC+
He got off to an awful start, but he is producing now. Jeter, on the other hand, got off to an awful start and has been mediocre since.

        • Jetrer

uhh, Swisher, despite an awful start to the season, has better numbers than Jeter now. Swisher 229/355/371, 326 wOBA, 103 wRC+ , Jeter 260/324/324, .298 wOBA, 83 wRC+

    • Mike c

He’s awful, Gardner is a way better hitter, even on lefties

  • Mister Delaware

Apparently yelling “FUCK!” isn’t outlawed in the straight edge rulebook.

    • Clay Bellinger

      haha, nice one.

  • Klemy

Waldman. You are truly an idiot.

    • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

      What did she say?

    • Kostas

THAT! Assume that is based on her stupid comment about Granderson getting hit and how people will think it was retaliation?

      • the tenth inning stretch

Yeah, cause Gordon was trying to hit Beltre with the bases loaded. Sheesh.

        • Kostas

Exactly. That is what Sterling said. She is a dumbass.

  • Jimmy McNulty

Did Granderson lose a HR or something?

  • Greg

Remember we’ve seen almost everybody in the Rangers bullpen and Wilson is at 76 pitches through 5 so we wont see him the whole game.

    • Mister Delaware

And, as luck / usage would have it, we got a free look at Feliz last night.

    • MannyGeee

this. i have alot of confidence with this team hitting against their bullpen.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

Why do we suck so much in 1 run games?

    • Karl Krawfid

      We gon win

  • Greg

    Get the pen up

  • Yank The Frank

I think Gordon may have run his course.

    • Clay Bellinger

      Take it back!

  • Cy Pettitte

    <3 you Russell

  • Jetrer

    I heart good catchers

  • Karl Krawfid

    Martin is a man

    • MannyGeee

actually he is in fact an animal. a manimal if I may

    • CBean

      he’s a tank!

      • MannyGeee

glad u went there… didnt want to be that guy.

  • Greg

    IN TIME AGAIN!

  • Urban

Good to see Rangers being thrown out after last year’s ALCS.

    • MannyGeee

      Jorge takes offense

  • Elnino’sboomstick

Granderson thinking man its nice not to have back up second on every steal

  • Nico

    Noesi time.. phew

    • MannyGeee

Noesi seems like a really confident pitcher. I like his composure up there

  • X-62

    Cashman on Cervelli,LOL

Cashman was brutally honest as usual when it came to the backup catcher situation. Russell Martin is back in the lineup after missing seven of the last eight games. Francisco Cervelli, who has struggled offensively and defensively, had subbed for him. Cashman wants top catching prospect Jesus Montero to play. That’s why he isn’t being brought up to back up Martin and get occasional DH at-bats.

“Is Montero better than Cervelli? Yes he is,” Cashman said.

    • MannyGeee

sooooooo do something for the good for your team and do the two headed monster approach. we have all covered it ad nausium here.

      • CP

While it’s conceivably possible to have a balance with Martin C, Posada DH and Montero C/DH, it would be difficult to actually pull off and there are benefits to letting him catch every day. Personally, I would have liked to see Martin go on the DL when he aggravated his back and call up Montero, but when Martin’s healthy there’s little benefit to having Montero in the majors.

As to Cashman’s original comment… Hello Captain Obvious.

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

That was about as good of a start as you could expect from Gordon. Now its up to this offense to get something going.

    • CBean

Yeah, Gordon did fine for a first start. The Yankees left a million men on base and CJ Wilson’s a pretty good pitcher so we weren’t going to have those opportunities forever. We really should have many more runs on the board.

  • first time lawng time

    This ump is baaaaad.

  • Kostas

I don’t know if this is one of those things or just the beginning but I like this Noesi>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>than Nova.

  • Urban

Rangers ran themselves out of run that inning, most likely. The downside of SBs, especially when guys like Murphy try to steal. Screw claws and antler.

  • mike_h

    Offense. Now. Please

  • ansky

    Ump is better now

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

This umpire just loves giving CJ that outer-half of the plate call.

  • ansky

Pena not hitting again today right?
    Arod will be hitting RIGHT?

Gardner will come next I bet

  • Urban

    Those chains look stupid.

    HIP HIP.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    Hip Hip tie game!!

  • MannyGeee

now that is how a DH should hit, sorta

    • Kostas

He is slowly coming back. That is nice to see.

  • FIPster Doofus

    He ain’t dead yet.

  • Stratman9652

Was I the only one scarred that Posada was going to stretch that into a triple?

  • Ted Nelson

Cano walked and Posada got an XBH from the right side in the same inning… it may be spring in NY, but it’s awfully cold in hell.

  • http://www.CarlsYankeeDugout.com Carl

Jorge’s hot hitting, man. It is incredible.

  • MannyGeee

sorry if anyone has asked this alreddy Mike, but what are you thinking for tomorrow? chat roll through the day game?

  • the tenth inning stretch

So glad Martin didn’t have to be DL’ed. He’s looking fresh out there, I really think they ran him into the ground and he just needed some time.

    • the tenth inning stretch

      Fat toad!

  • MannyGeee

    wow.

remember then Nunez used to be a good hitter? last night?

  • Urban

Jeter at least would have tapped a slow roller to third to make that last out interesting.

  • tut

    Does Gordon get another start?

    • CBean

      He should.

  • Elnino’sboomstick

Noesi squeezed on that at bat

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Are they seriously intentionally walking him with NO OUTS?!?!?

    • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

      That’s why

    • CBean

Yes? Apparently we are just walking Hamilton forever from now on. How could that possibly backfire?

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Great, that means more IBB’s are coming.

      • CBean

they’ll keep doing this until it fails. and it will fail. probably pretty spectacularly. Ala ALCS.

    • Cy Pettitte

Joe is play reversion to the mean, it didn’t work at all in the ALCS, now it will work today

    • Ted Nelson

Meh… I was pretty alright with taking the bat out of Hamilton’s hands there.

  • Greg

    DOUBLE PLAY!

  • Urban

That would have been a triple play if A-Rod was playing third.

    • MannyGeee

quadruple play if Jeter was in on it.

      • Urban

You know, I believe you’re right. The magic of Centaur and Jeter would have been too much.

        • MannyGeee

Centaur + High Top fade = great fantastic things

  • MannyGeee

    Nino!

or maybe thats what Sterling calls all young skinny Dominican boys…

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

Beautiful. Intentionally walking Hamilton has worked twice now.

    • Urban

      Once.

The first time did lead to a run after Hamilton was hit, although the damage was minimal. Hamilton might have hit a line drive somewhere, too, opening up a big inning. We’ll never know.

      • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

The first time only lead to a run because of the hit batsman. That inning could have been much worse. Either way, They shouldn’t be intentionally walking anybody this much.

  • tom

There’s questionable strategy — OK, ludicrous strategy — paying off big time

  • Elnino’sboomstick

Noesi moving up the food chain in the pen

    • MannyGeee

      considering whats left….

  • Rob

  • CBean

    Good job little Noesi!

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Probably Darren Oliver. He’s their Eighth Inning Guy.

      • MannyGeee

        thats good news for us

      • CBean

seems like it might be Wilson.

        • the tenth inning stretch

          Oh, you’re good.

  • MannyGeee

LOL that pinstriped Ford Explorer is fucking gaudy.

  • Jim S

    David Robertson is a beast.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

I forgot, Nolan Ryan wants his pitcher’s arms to fall off.

  • tom

Wilson would never be out there if not for Nolan Ryan’s Macho Man policy.

Girardi seems to be counting on the Yanks scoring quickly. Once he’s past DRo and Mo, it’s a thin bullpen.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Heh, Robbie’s got some ground ball luck today.

  • Yank The Frank

    Find the hole Robbie Cano!
    That’s what she said…

  • Kostas

So does this qualify as thinking outside the box for Girardi that he did not pinch hit Gardner for Jones so he could bunt.

    • the tenth inning stretch

      It’s progress.

  • ansky

Wouldn’t now be a good time for Alex?

  • V

That whole sitting-Gardner-for-Jones thing sure worked out today…

    • Kostas

      Well said.

  • Kostas

AJ Burnett would have been a better choice than Andrew Jones….

  • Urban

Ron Washington: You’re out of here, CJ.

CJ: Ron, let me stay in and I’ll score you some crack cocaine later.

    Washington: Ok.

  • King of Fruitless Hypotheticals

127 pitches??? do they not have a bullpen? if they’re that afraid…PLEASE let us get into NOW!!!

  • Hall and Nokes

Hope Dr. Andrews doesn’t have anything too pressing tomorrow.

  • Mister Delaware

Sooo … fair to say Jorgie is in full “guess hitter” mode, huh?

    • Urban

      Has been since 1995.

      • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

        Well, it used to work……

  • Urban

    130 pitches? 130 pitches?!!! This isn’t 1988. Pitchers can’t throw 130 pitches today. They’ll burst into dust.

Nice game by CJ, considering he should be losing.

  • Karl Krawfid

    God that looked horrible

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

I wouldn’t be totally surprised if Wilson goes out for the 9th too

  • Urban

Ummm, who do we have for the 10th if we don’t win it in the 9th?

    • the tenth inning stretch

      Wade?

    • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

      Girardi’s guy, Booney

      • Urban

Yikes. We better win it in the 9th.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    Bunting = FAIL.

    Take note Girardi

  • the tenth inning stretch

Chavez with the Derek Jeter bunt and then a nice tackle.

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

Teixeira looked pissed when Endy Chavez ran into him catching that pop up.

  • Mister Delaware

Endy Chavez is on that list of people I’ve decided are probably really nice guys despite absolutely no evidence to support.

    • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

      I concur

  • Karl Krawfid

Mo is on the side of the ball again.

  • the tenth inning stretch

Nice play by the Karate Kid at third.

  • Yank The Frank

    I WANT PIE!!

    • Rough Around the Edges

Good luck with those hitters coming up. I think they used up their dog shit yesterday.

  • CBean

Pie would be a fantastic way to end this homestand.

  • Urban

I like that AJ was walking toward the club house. He’s going in search of his pie gear. He assumes we’ll need pie. I hope he’s right.

  • Jetrer

AJ to the clubhouse in search of pie

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

Mo threw 10 pitches. If we don’t win it, does Mo go another inning? I can only remember him pitching once on this homestand in the first Cleveland game so he’s had time off.

    • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

  • the tenth inning stretch

    MUSCLE.

  • Hall and Nokes

What makes you guys think that Martin, Nunez & Pena will not produce a run?

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Oh jeez. Here comes the bunt.

    • Greg

      Even with Nunez, its wrong?

    • the tenth inning stretch

Off the top of my head, isn’t Pena a pretty good bunter? I think I would’ve let Nunez swing and given Pena the bunt assignment.

  • Cy Pettitte

    Russell looks so much better

  • Jetrer

I hope Nunez bunting means ARod is available to pinch hit

  • Esteban

I don’t know if this was discusses but:

“Is Montero better than Cervelli? Yeah, he is,” Cashman said. “But Montero is not on the roster right now. If Russell Martin is not going to be a DL [situation] and it’s going to be a day-to-day thing I’m not going to bring a guy for a day or two.”

    Read more: http://www.nypost.com/p/blogs/.....z1PTFzL9h7

  • Urban

Does Giradi even know if Nunez can bunt? Or is he just giving up an out for the hell of it?

    • Urban

Okay, he can bunt. Now Alex up to be walked, although that’s still better since it means Pena won’t hit.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

Why bunt with Pena up next? If you PH Arod they just walk him.

    • tom

I’d rather Swisher/Granderson take the shot than Pena/Swisher

    • Urban

True, but the choice if Pena hitting or Swisher hitting. I’ll take Swish.

  • Kevin

    ugh….

  • Greg

    Here cmes AROD

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

At least he got the bunt down. If he had bunt failed, there would be a hole in my wall right now.

  • Yank The Frank

    Swish will end it.

  • Stratman9652

Yay, the bunt worked now you have two baserunners!!!!one!!!111eleven!

  • Greg

They could bring in Gardner for Swisher

    • Cy Pettitte

Apparently, Ron Washington does not know about Swisher’s fondness for pie…

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

That … looked like a strike.

    • Mister Delaware

I’m pretty sure Curtis just wanted to remind us how he used to look against lefties.

    • Karl Krawfid

      Very far man.

Grandy missed a fastball down the middle.

Then swung at a ball down and in. In the right hand batters box.

  • Guns of the Navarone

    wow

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

    Wow. Typical Yankees.

  • Kostas

Well that sucked. RISP fear again.

    So freaking predictable.

  • Greg

    FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK

  • Tut

    F’n ckoke

  • Chey K

    ah man!

  • Dino Velvet

    uh, fuck

  • Ivan

    Ugh…

  • the tenth inning stretch

I am in complete shock. Wow, what a total failure.

  • tom

Our two best guys up, and no dice. Cue John Sterling.

Super-tight games really seem to bring out the un-clutch in this team.

  • Thomas Cassidy

Fuck Tex. Giambi with a better glove.

    • jay h

a little drastic don’t you think?

    • Jetrer

      so All-star, great player then

  • Greg

Grandy was thinking about hitting it out. Play small ball. All you need is a sac fly or walk

  • Mister Delaware

C’mon, Swish. You have to handle that.

  • first time lawng time

Ugh who’s in the pen after Mo?

  • first time lawng time

Ugh who’s in the pen after Mo? Assuming the Yanks don’t lose in the 10th.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

How about just quickly ending it with a HR?

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

Hopefully they can get something going this time. But that last inning was just disgusting. This team definitely has a RISP fail complex now.

    • jay h

so is that why they were 6-11 with risp on tuesday and 3-9 yesterday

      • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

Really? I didn’t start watching baseball until an hour ago so I didn’t know that.

        • first time lawng time

          Me neither.

  • http://deleted Total Dominication

    So what did I miss?

    • King of Fruitless Hypotheticals

      Nothing. Game is to one.

    • CBean

do you need it in haiku form?

      • King of Fruitless Hypotheticals

        nine innings wasted
home game must be won today
        are you not aware?

        • Mister Delaware

          Oh my f’ing god!!!
Can you believe he did that?!?!?!?
          Yanks are a disgrace!!!

(This applies to every game at some point so just bookmark)

        • CBean

          <3

        • CBean

          +1

      • http://deleted Total Dominication

        Preferably.

  • King George

Ugh, I can’t believe we are watching this still. Disappointed we couldn’t do much last inning. But we’ll get pie this inning!

  • Rob

man, i wish we had melky on the bench

    • Kostas

Um I wish they just had a bench.

  • http://deleted Total Dominication

Yes, obviously he’d bunt in front of Posada, Nunez, and Pena.

    • Greg

      ARod in for PEna

      • http://deleted Total Dominication

        still

  • NHYankeesFan

Cano, just because its 3-1 doesnt mean you have to swing

    • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

Of course it does. It obviously means the pitcher is going to throw you a meatball right down the middle.

  • first time lawng time

If they don’t win this inning, they’re done. Their BP is crap.

    • King of Fruitless Hypotheticals

      TX or NY?

      • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

Good point. Texas BP sucks too

  • the tenth inning stretch

How about an inside-the-park HR for the game-winner?

  • IRF

Its a good thing he sat the last two days!

  • Greg

Girardi now looks a bit foolish
But Gardner needs to steal this bag.

    • Hall and Nokes

      Girardi now looks
      A bit foolish but Gardner
      Needs to steal this bag

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

He has to steal this base.

    • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

Where’s Homer Bush when we need him?

  • Chey K

Come on Georgie!! Raise that .088 ave against lefties!

  • ansky

Do all the Rangers lefties have awful moves?

  • King of Fruitless Hypotheticals

That first pitch looked like it was close enough for Jorge to lean into…

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    Brett, listen to Paul O’Neill

  • Kostas

    Gardner needs to be running.

  • ansky

    We need Homer Bush back

  • Cy Pettitte

    what the fuck beltre

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Haha. Of course that’s when he finally runs.

    • Greg

Gardner needs to work on that to earn my respect.

  • first time lawng time

    WTF.

  • Jetrer

    fucking bad luck

  • IRF

    Holy crap Beltre

  • http://deleted Total Dominication

    Are you fucking kidding me?

  • Karl Krawfid

    Posada is just horrible.

    LET HIM STEAL

    • Ted Nelson

There are these crazy things called signs… that’s the sign-language looking stuff the 3rd base coach does when he looks like he’s scratching himself and stuff.

  • Guns of the Navarone

See, luck plays no part in baseball.

  • ansky

He goes on the 1st pitch that doesn’t happen. Beltre doesn’t guard the line, etc…

    • Jetrer

and he probably gets thrown out

  • Chey K

    Guess not…

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

    unbelievable. this game is over

  • the tenth inning stretch

    Of course.

  • King of Fruitless Hypotheticals

    SBBIP bad luck?

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    Fuck Beltre

  • Cy Pettitte

Cory Wade leap frogged Ayala and Logan

  • Urban

Jeez, with Gardner running and that bull pulled down the line, I don’t think it would have set up the winning run, I think Gardner would have scored.

It’s all Posada’s fault for hitting the ball hard.

  • tom

All those who say the Yanks’ RISP fail is strictly on them, take a look at that play again. Game almost certainly over.

And remember that White Sox game, with the two 9th inning circus catches? Two games the team had won, but the juju went bad on them.

  • Yank The Frank

    I like this Corey Wade

    • King of Fruitless Hypotheticals

no way. 20% of the pitches were balls. PLUS it took 10 pitches to end the inning. cut him now.

  • tom

Meantime, this Wade guy is certainly starting off well.

  • Karl Krawfid

That is the Robbie we all know and love

  • the tenth inning stretch

Nice quick inning, let’s get some runs, dudes.

    • Urban

      One right now will do.

  • JobaWockeeZ

Well anytime the offense wants to get a clutch hit (or walk) is fine by me.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

Is Wade someone who can go more than 1 inning?

  • Cy Pettitte

    nice play by Robbie

solid inning by Wade, hopefully Joe found his new 7th inning guy.

  • Rob

nice inning by wade, i do have faith in arod

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

Nice inning by Wade. CAN WE PLEASE HAVE SOME PIE NOW?

  • jay h

    calling an A-Rod walk off

    • Ted Nelson

Well… he did walk off the field I suppose…

  • Guns of the Navarone

    Due up: A-RAWD!! Game over.

  • Mike

Martin single, Nunez bunt AROD WALK OFF

    • Mike

      scratch that…

  • Elnino’sboomstick

Dont worry guys girardi secret weapon still on the bench just waiting to explode.

  • King of Fruitless Hypotheticals

You know Wade had some butterflies to start his career w/NY like this–and to smoke that inning like that AND be in line for the free baseball win? Nice.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

      He pitched yesterday.

      • King of Fruitless Hypotheticals

OR, i could be completely wrong. Either way.

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

Great way to start off the inning Martin.

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

Eduardo — Here comes the walk off.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Cory Wade has more 1-2-3 innings than Rafael Soriano.

    • Jetrer

      thats just sad

      • King of Fruitless Hypotheticals

        Nick Swisher’s SO/9 and SO/BB ratio’s are also better than Soriano’s.

    • Cy Pettitte

maybe Levine will keep his mouth shut now

      • JobaWockeeZ

        Good joke, bro.

  • Jetrer

    walk, steal, ARod walkoff

    • MannyGeee

you dont steal here… make him pitch to a rod.

      • Jetrer

yeah, I agree. I spoke before I thought

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

Good at-bat by Nunez. More of those please.

  • Stratman9652

Watch Nunez steal on the first pitch…

  • MannyGeee

    A-Rod…. what to do

  • Urban

Don’t be silly, Michael. Joe will have Alex bunt here.

  • V

Come on, steal 2nd here. I don’t care about the IBB – runners on 1st and 2nd is better than runner on 1st, even if you swap ARod for Nunez.

    • V

Ha, didn’t correct the comment in time.

  • V

Come on, steal 2nd here. I don’t care about the IBB – runners on 1st and 2nd is better than runner on 1st, even if you swap ARod for Swisher.

  • Urban

Man, the Yanks are have BABIP bad luck.

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

The Yankees are getting BABIP fucked

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    We’ve been BABIP fucked today…

  • Jetrer

ok, now he needs to steal

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

    Shiiiet.

  • http://deleted Total Dominication

    uuuuuuuu

  • MannyGeee

I think a swisher sweet is in order

  • Guns of the Navarone

Where are all these home runs I keep hearing about?

    • MannyGeee

used them up in those 2 blowout wins this week. we’re gonna win this one on grit.

  • Kostas

C’mon Swish. Set aside your failure and produce.

  • Elnino’sboomstick

How about this Cervelli hits the walkoff HR
And afterwards burnett pies him misses and pokes him in the forcing thebyankees to bring up Jesus

    • Stratman9652

So much of that statement will never happen.

  • JobaWockeeZ

Ah 2009 where I used to love these situations.

    • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

If only I had a dollar for every time a Yankee fan wished it was 2009 all over again…

      • Urban

        I wish it was 1998.

  • Karl Krawfid

    I blame Granderson.

  • Rob

that sucks, tough hitters coming up

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

Boone Logan is warming up. SHIIIIIT

  • Cy Pettitte

    filthy change ups

    • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

      He made Hamilton look silly

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    WHAT???? We didn’t IBB Hamilton????

  • the tenth inning stretch

    Cory Wade, Twelfth Inning Guy.

  • King of Fruitless Hypotheticals

    Cory Wade. Good at baseball?

  • Jetrer

Wade = impressive (so far anyways)

  • Dino Velvet

Jeter looks so young in that Ford commercial

  • Yank The Frank

    The GrandyMan Can.

  • the tenth inning stretch

Wade deserves a win after those 2 innings. Score, please.

  • CBean

I went to a meeting and came back and nothing changed. (also nearly called a coworker a Tank in a meeting)

    • jay h

      not megatron?

  • the tenth inning stretch

Granderspeed on base for Teix, A-Rod, and Cano. Hits this time, por favor.

    • Jetrer

you mean Tex, Cano, and Gardner

    • the tenth inning stretch

No A-Rod, forgot about today’s lineup. Fail.

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

Why couldn’t you do that in the 9th? Oh well, Let’s get some pie

  • King of Fruitless Hypotheticals

    nothing grander than stealing second?

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

    Double steal now?

  • Greg

    All right Gardner

  • the tenth inning stretch

Brett Gardner walkoff HR. It’s coming.

    • the tenth inning stretch

      Or not.

  • Cy Pettitte

    BREEEEEETTTTTTT!!!!!!!!

  • Jetrer

    Gritty pie time

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

    I LOVE YOU BRETT GARDNER!!!!!!

  • Greg

    I Bow down to Brett

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

    Woooo Brett.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    PIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Dino Velvet

    PIE!

  • Hester Prynne

    Gardner can’t hit lefties!!!!!!!

  • Elnino’sboomstick

Aj ready for his only use

    • Jetrer

      Fat Mike would be proud

  • jon

thank god jones was in there to strike out 4 times (only called for 3)

  • Urban

So brillian of Joe G. to have Gardner available to come off the bench to win the game!

Nice game, even though all the batters left on base were painful, although not all of the Yankees doing.

  • Chey K

    Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!! Nice job Yanks!!

  • King of Fruitless Hypotheticals

    I MISSED IT! what happend???

    • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

      Brett just got some pie

    • Thomas Cassidy

Walk-off inside the park grand slam by Gardner.

      • Jetrer

        lol … not possible though

        • Ross

Possible if they were down by 3 with the bases loaded in extra innings…

  • YankeesJunkie

    Brett Gardner=Leadoff hitter

  • http://deleted Total Dominication

Yes!!! Maybe you shouldn’t sit one of the three hottest hitters on the team for 2 days.

  • CBean

    Gritty Pie!

  • tom

I think Gardner has officially resumed “pretty good player” status.

    • YankeesJunkie

Considering that he has gone from abysmal to a 2.0 WAR I would agree.

      • David, Jr.

He has done very well. Remember when he came up, looking like a fourth outfielder / pinch runner type? He has just kept improving.

  • Pat D

My phone died during my boring 2 hour training. I get back to my desk, pull up the gamecast, and get to see Brett’s winning hit show up.

    Awesome!!!

  • the tenth inning stretch

    Bruce Gordon.

    /Kay’d

  • CBean

have we swept at home before this year?

    • CBean

wow that’s worded terribly. I meant to ask if this was the first series we’d swept at home this year?

      • Greg

        You might need some punctuation
HAve we swept at home before, this year?

  • Greg

Damn the Cubs have a cheesy win song.

    • Greg

      but very catchy.

  • the tenth inning stretch

    Phillies DFA Romero today.

    • Greg

      who?

      • the tenth inning stretch

        J.C. Romero, lefty reliever.

        • Pat D

Hmm. Still has good numbers against lefties this year.

  • Monteroisdinero

Outfielder with great arm switches to pitcher to make it to big leagues. I’ll give this some thought.

    /Golson’d
