Doubleheaders are always fun, at least in theory. The first game is never a problem, it’s the second game when we all start to get a little grumpy and ready to move on with our lives. Thankfully we don’t have to worry about that just yet, since the Yankees are Reds are about to kick off game one of today’s double dip. Here’s the lineup…

Brett Gardner, LF
Curtis Granderson, CF
Nick Swisher, RF
Robinson Cano, 2B
Jorge Posada, 1B
Eduardo Nunez, SS
Ramiro Pena, 3B
Frankie Cervelli, C
Freddy Garcia, SP

First pitch scheduled for 12:35pm ET and this game can be seen on YES and heard on WCBS 880. Enjoy.

    LOLineup.

  2. MannyGeee says:

    Fantasy question:

Play Russell Martin in game 2 or Joe Mauer (@ SF, Vogelsong) in fantasy today? Mauer had a great game last night, but not completely sold he is healthy and his timing is there yet.

    • boogie down says:

That’s tough, b/c Cueto and Vogelsong have both been pitching really well. Vogelsong has done especially well at home, though, which complicates matters even further.

I’d go with Mauer; although Martin is 5-17 over the last week, he’s not nearly the player that Mauer is and, in general, he’s been on a slide since the beginning of May. Obviously, Mauer’s output last night should instill some confidence. Hope that Vogelsong’s bubble bursts a bit tonight.

  3. duzzi23 says:

Girardis really trotting out the A lineup for this game huh? Swisher third really? Dunno why everyone needs to be rested when they didn’t play yesterday n won’t tomorrow

  4. Greg says:

According to info yeaterday, Girardi is going to play Martin and Arod in the night game.

  5. Jeremy says:

    What’s wrong with Tex & a-rod?

  6. nsalem says:

    Lets Play Two

    You can Banks on it.

  7. Monteroisdinero says:

Swish can bat anywhere in the lineup and plays everyday. He rocks.

  8. Thomas says:

I saw Mrs. and Mr. Redlegs in the closet making babies and I saw one of the babies and the baby looked at me.

  9. Monteroisdinero says:

Any reason why we can’t have the opposing lineup posted as well?

  10. Greg says:

Come to think of it, most of the good mascots are in the National League: The Phanatic, Mr. Met, Bernie Brewer, the Friar, Mr Redlegs, the Parrot, formerly the San Diego Chicken and Chief Nocahoma

  11. Kiersten says:

Last time I had this little faith in the lineup, the entire infield homered. So here’s to hoping.

  12. Rob says:

I wonder if pena and nunez can combine for a better defensive play (or non play) than they had on sunday in wrigley?

    • MannyGeee says:

with Jorge playing 1st & Penunez flinging balls around like Ridalin kids, there will be MANY opportunities for overthows and bouncebys.

glad I am listening to the game instead of watching. oh wait.

      #YouCan’tPredictBaseball

  13. the tenth inning stretch says:

Sign Phillips up to replace Flaherty.

  14. Joseph Cecala says:

I think this is the worst possible lineup Girardi could have ever made. Then again 7 runs

  15. Al H says:

How would you like to be a Reds fan that paid big bucks to see
Yankees and then be “treated” to this line-up???

  16. Xstar7 says:

I understand the reasoning for it, but this lineup doesn’t look too impressive. But as John Sterling always says……..

  17. MannyGeee says:

whos singing the Anthem? Ted Williams?

“You Knooooooow You Love Reds Baseball”…

  18. Pat D says:

I think we, as a people, need to rise up against everything that is Glee.

  19. Pat D says:

    Poor Mike Leake.

He could have been Dave Winfield. But, alas.

  20. MannyGeee says:

    Uh OH, Leake’s wild already.

  21. Rob says:

What does “It really is a ball park” mean?

  22. mike_h says:

Posada plays well at 1B, expect a good game from him today

  23. Greg says:

    Grandy’s in a slump again

  24. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

Why not play a game today and another game on the off day tomorrow? If it’s a day game, then travel won’t be an issue. Plus there would be less Francisco Cervelli.

  25. I had no idea until the other day that “The Great American Ballpark” isn’t the default name of Cincinnati’s stadium, it’s actually a naming rights deal with the Great American Insurance Company.

Seems like a waste to me. If I can’t tell that the stadium refers to your company name and get obvious, instant brand tie-in, you’re not getting much bang for your endorsement buck.

  26. Xstar7 says:

This umpire has a small strikezone. But at least it’s for both sides.

  27. Cy Pettitte says:

    damn BG almost had him

  28. IRF says:

So when did Brett Gardner develop a cannon?

  29. the tenth inning stretch says:

Called that second pitch a ball?

  30. Greg says:

Garcia’s leaving pitches up. That’s trouble

  31. Johnny O says:

I’m sure most have seen this already, but here’s a fangraphs article citing Brett ‘Grit’ner as the 12th most valuable position player since start of 2010. Above guys like Braun and Cano and CarGo who had a historical 2010. Not bad for the ML minimum.

    http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs.....te-player/

  32. first time lawng time says:

Ugh I HATE Garcia! Or at least when he pitches.

  33. Xstar7 says:

Those were some ugly hacks by Jay Bruce

  34. Yank The Frank says:

    The Chief

  35. Xstar7 says:

    First pitch swingin’

  36. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

Robbie needs to run those out…

  37. Pat D says:

Why the hell would you steal stuff from Macy’s anyway?

  38. the tenth inning stretch says:

That t-shirt story sounds so ridiculous.

  39. Cy Pettitte says:

come on Cervelli, be good for something and clear the pitcher.

  40. I want Ramiro to jack another longball, so that all three of our 2011 shortstops can have exactly two homers.

  41. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

So we clear Cervelli and if we clear the pitcher it’s a bonus

  42. Greg says:

So we’re playing this because Curtis needs his computer fixed?

  43. the tenth inning stretch says:

Let’s go Cervelli, set Freddy up the slam.

  44. JobaWockeeZ says:

I’m confused I thought Spring Training was over…

  45. Mister Delaware says:

    SWISH!!!

  46. the tenth inning stretch says:

    Swishalicious. It’s always an adventure.

  47. Pat D says:

    Damn, Swish!

  48. mike_h says:

    what a catch Swish!!!

  49. Xstar7 says:

    WHOA! Epic catch by Swisher.

  50. Yank The Frank says:

    Swish!!

  51. Girardi's Binder says:

Hey guys, don’t blame me for today’s lineup.

Even I don’t know what the fuck Girardi is thinking.

  52. boogie down says:

    Swishilicious

  53. JobaWockeeZ says:

    2 lucky outs for Garcia.

  54. Xstar7 says:

    Freddy Garcia, always smooth.

  55. Mike Axisa says:

Garcia seems to catch one line drive per start.

  56. Cy Pettitte says:

    speeeeeeed

  57. Pat D says:

    Wow, the headfirst slide worked.

  58. JobaWockeeZ says:

Well this proves it. Everyone should now slide to first.

    /sigh

  59. the tenth inning stretch says:

Finally, he’s actually safe on a dive at first.

  60. swishers fauxhawk says:

    Gritner

  61. Mike Axisa says:

I’m pretty sure that’s the only time I’ve seen a slide into first base work.

  62. King George says:

    Yeah, that’s some hustle.

  63. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

Gritty infield hit and a gritty slide

  64. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

Kay is so excited about Gardner’s speed that he isn’t even ranting about sprinters not diving past the finish line!

  65. nsalem says:

Wally Pipp shoudn’t have lost his job either

  66. pat says:

That’s right. Keep throwing over and keeping an eye on Brett. Lose focus on Grandy.

  67. Xstar7 says:

Michael Kay: You will never see someone steal 100 bases again.

    Jacoby Ellsbury disagrees

  68. Mike Axisa says:

    Great at-bat by Grandy.

  69. the tenth inning stretch says:

    Perfect hit-and-run.

  70. The Oberamtmann says:

This is why I like Michael Kay and the rest of the Yankee announcers. I’m watching the game with the Reds broadcast on – I’m watching on MLB.tv and the supposed game-sounds only option is nowhere to be seen – and they have spent the entire inning talking to some overly-giddy woman talking about a duck ride in some newly reestablished neighborhood. At least half the time the camera is on them and not on the field. When Granderson got the hit the announcer already said (after mentioning the hit) “enough of that” and returned to talking to her. The Yankees don’t do this that much, and when they do have guests for a charity or whatnot, it doesn’t take this long.

    • The Oberamtmann says:

Now they’re talking about butterfly populations.

    • JZ says:

Were you watching the Michael Miklen interview on Sunday? I wanted to kill the lot of them, the thing droned on so long. An entire half-inning of blather.

  71. Mister Delaware says:

I wish we have Paulie for all 162+.

  72. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

I’d love to see Girardi send Grandy here.

  73. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

Even Leake looks bored right now.

  74. Xstar7 says:

Swish should have been a man and taken that one for the team.

    FTLT’d

  75. Cy Pettitte says:

    BG FTW

  76. Marc says:

Someone please chop that video and put it on youtube haha

  77. mike_h says:

    1-0 bitches!!!!!

  78. Mister Delaware says:

You cannot praise that throw home.

  79. pat says:

    Wow, that was terrible.

  80. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

Looks like Votto could’ve turned two on Swish if he didn’t step on first. Whatever, I’ll take it.

    Let’s go Robbie!

  81. Mister Delaware says:

Herein lies the problem with earned runs.

  82. Cy Pettitte says:

rbi for Robbie! yay top 5 of the lineup production.

  83. gio says:

Anyone else play Beat The Streak on mlb.com?

  84. Yank The Frank says:

    A little 2 out bingo!

  85. the tenth inning stretch says:

    Leake got squeezed there.

  86. Xstar7 says:

Ya gotta swing the bat Jorge

  87. tom says:

So Votto cost Leake that second run. I think Gardner probably scores if Votto throws to second — I have faith in Granderson getting into a rundown. But then the runner is erased and the inning’s over. Votto went for the miracle, and it cost them.

  88. Mike Axisa says:

63 pitches after three, get him out early and wreck that bullpen for tonight.

  89. IRF says:

Why isn’t Jack Curry in the booth more often?

  90. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

Brandon Phillips has always been one of my favorite players. It’s too bad he’s been stuck on bad teams in Cincy for most of his career, because a guy with his personality would be a star in a big market.

  91. CMP says:

It would be great to win this game in spite of the “wave the white flag lineup” Girardi ran out there for game one.

  92. the tenth inning stretch says:

Brandon Phillips reminds me of Malcolm-Jamal Warner.

  93. Xstar7 says:

    Sweaty Freddy has settled down.

  94. pat says:

    Phillips laughing after a K?

    Punishable by death.

    -Old Timey Baseball Squad.

  95. Karl Krawfid says:

    Keep it up Freddy.

  96. Mike Axisa says:

Brandon Phillips laughed after striking out! Booo Andruw Jones!

  97. Kostas says:

In this day of overpaid hype, you just don’t see too many guys having that much fun playing baseball like Brandon Phillips. Good to see.

IMO, one of the things that hurt the Yankees during their WS spell, too serious instead of having fun.

  98. Johnny O says:

Cervelli’s at .185/.250/.278. I’m sure Montero could improve on that significantly. What’s taking so long?

    • Greg says:

Cashman has already said that he wants Montero to play every day

    • Pat D says:

Cashman: We want Montero to play every day.

      • Johnny O says:

I don’t buy it. So now they won’t call him up until 2013? I’d think he has to prove he can play every day at the ML level before given the starting job. Spring Training and AAA only count for so much.

      • Cashman: If the backup catcher sucks, the backup catcher sucks, man. If Cervelli blows, Cervelli blows. I mean … simple as that. It aint about that… I mean, it’s… It’s not about that… At all. You know what I’m saying? I mean…

But it’s…it’s easy … to, to talk about… It’s easy to sum it up when you’re just talking about the backup catcher. We’re sitting in here, and I’m supposed to be the GM, and we in here talking about the backup catcher. I mean, listen, we’re talking about the backup catcher, not the starter, not the starter, not the starter; we talking about the backup catcher. Not the starter. Not, not … Not the starting catcher that goes out there and dies for us and plays every game for us like it’s his last. Not the starter, but we’re talking about the backup catcher, man. I mean, how silly is that?

And we talking about the backup catcher. I know I’m supposed to work on the whole roster. I know Jesus needs to be promoted soon. I know that… And I’m not.. I’m not shoving it aside, you know, like it don’t mean anything. I know it’s important, I do. I honestly do…

But we’re talking about the backup catcher man. What are we talking about? The backup catcher? We’re talking about the backup catcher, man. (laughter from the media crowd) We’re talking about the backup catcher. We’re talking about the backup catcher. We aint talking about the starter. (more laughter) We’re talking about the backup catcher, man. When you come to the ballpark, and you see Martin play, you see Martin play, don’t you? You’ve seen Martin give everything he’s got, right? But we’re talking about the backup catcher right now. We taking about the backup catcher.

    • theyankeewarrior says:

Cashman: “Is Montero better than Cervelli? Yes.”

He just wants him to continue to develop.

  99. the tenth inning stretch says:

Please don’t let this be the inning where we have quick at-bats so the pitcher can miraculously get through 7 innings.

    • AaronGuielWithASmile says:

I know I’m whipping a dead horse here, but Francisco Cervelli is so bad that it is literally mindboggling.

If Cash doesn’t want to call up Montero, you can’t tell me that Gustavo Molina couldn’t do a better job than Cervelli does.

  100. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

Jack Curry needs to replace Flaharty in the booth

  101. theyankeewarrior says:

It sucks that I’m hoping just one of nunez/pena/cervelli gets on so that garcia can make the last out and we can lead off the following inning with the top of the order.

    /NL is garbage

  102. BigTimeBartolo says:

    Get em ‘Miro

    Dammit Cervelli

  103. Pat D says:

Did someone say there was a rumor about the blonde woman on NESN and one of the Red Sox players?

  104. Mister Delaware says:

Apparently they don’t have “Humidors 101″ at Fordham.

  105. first time lawng time says:

Morneau did not deserve that MVP.

  106. Hester Prynne says:

Why does John Sterling call Joey Votto, Voto?

  107. Xstar7 says:

Larry Walker was a very good player. But Colorado is the only place you can put up numbers like that. Just ask Carlos Gonzalez.

  108. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

Fearless Freddy is on a roll

  109. Mister Delaware says:

    And somewhere, Mike Scioscia ejaculates.

  110. the tenth inning stretch says:

    Jay Bruce bunting?

  111. Mike Axisa says:

Freddy Garcia with the high cheese.

  112. Yank The Frank says:

    The Chief is cruising

  113. first time lawng time says:

    Garcia still sucks, though.

I won’t be one of those people who claims someone sucks when thy do something bad but keeps quiet when they do something good.

Garcia sucks and I hate him.

  114. Johnny O says:

“Now batting, the pitcher, number 36, freddy garcia, number 36″. Not even bob sheppard could make that sound good.

  115. Mark says:

Cleanup hitter bunting in the 4th

    /NL crap’d

  116. the tenth inning stretch says:

    Almost.

  117. Pat D says:

They play an interesting array of sounds in this stadium.

  118. MannyGeee says:

wow. BABIP giveth, BABIP taketh away.

  119. dkidd says:

question: why has the nl been such a weaker league for so long? when i was growing up, the nl won the all-star game every year. shouldn’t the pendulum have swung back by now?

  120. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

    E-3

Not a perfect throw, but Jorge’s gotta stretch farther than that.

  121. jon says:

    LOL

tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside the Elder says:
    June 22, 2011 at 12:26 pm
Cervelli, Peña, and Nuñez bring the excitement, though. How many balls will be thrown into centerfield or the stands? Who will take a baseball to the face? I’m on the edge of my seat.

and the answer is Drew Stubbs

  122. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    Jorge’s not Tex out there…

  123. Greg says:

WHy was Brett shaded so far to the right?

  124. first time lawng time says:

I don’t get why people make such a big deal if you wear Yankees jerseys with the name on the back.

There’s nothing wrong with that. Seriously.

  125. Karl Krawfid says:

    Po’s fault.

    Can’t catch.

  126. jon says:

wow i had no idea freddy was throwing a no hitter

  127. Mike Axisa says:

Fuck, Ramiro. Take the sure out.

  128. Pat D says:

    Sigh.

  129. first time lawng time says:

    Cervelli sucks.

  130. Jetrer says:

    fucking awful defense this inning

  131. Cy Pettitte says:

fielding is leaving a lot to be desired….

  132. That’s on Ramiro as well. Two throws yanked this inning.

  133. Karl Krawfid says:

    Cervelli sucks man.

  134. Yank The Frank says:

Two bad throws by Pena this inning. Yikes

    • tom says:

Yeah, I thought he was the backup infielder who DID make the plays.

Not that either of his receivers helped any.

  135. Kostas says:

    Seriously, throwing – Baseball 101

  136. mike_h says:

ugh not sure who screwed up, Pena throw in the dirt and bad catch by Cervelli

  137. Greg says:

    That’s on Pena not Cervelli.

  138. dkidd says:

    ryan hanigan: not attractive

  139. Pat D says:

Gee, I thought we were all worried about Nunez’s throws.

Pena almost pulled Cano off the bag.

  140. And then Ramiro almost pulls Cano off the first base bag.

Get your head in the game, El Niño.

  141. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    Cervelli and Pena = BAD

  142. jon says:

and he almost threw it away AGAIN

  143. Rob says:

although pena can’t all that well, i really like him because he’s so defensively sound

  144. MannyGeee says:

I thought Nunez was the shaky reserve infielder and Pena was the sure gloved one. this inning is blowing my mind

  145. tom says:

Votto and Pena are the reasons this isn’t a 1-1 game right now.

  146. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

…and those runs courtesy of Ramiro Pena

  147. the tenth inning stretch says:

    WHAT IS HAPPENING?!

  148. Cy Pettitte says:

    this inning is just painful.

  149. Kostas says:

This is where as a pitcher you want to scream. Made the pitches necessary – that should have been the end of the inning – but sloppy play screws you out of an additional 10+ pitches and possibly giving up the lead.

  150. Yank The Frank says:

    This is one ugly inning.

  151. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

Off topic: I can’t be the only person who thinks that Russell Martin looks exactly like Dom from Entourage, right?

  152. wow says:

and it looks like the offense is taking the rest of the afternoon off.

  153. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

This inning=why we should have just given up the offday.

  154. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

Give me a pitcher’s duel over a slugfest any day.

  155. Bronx Byte says:

Can’t blame Freddy for lack of fielding or run support.

  156. Cy Pettitte says:

Robbie at .299 after that hit

  157. Cy Pettitte says:

    HIP HIP!

  158. Mike Axisa says:

But I was told the offense would take the rest of the afternoon off!

  159. Greg says:

    Hip Hip

  160. Karl Krawfid says:

Sado gives us the runs back nice

  161. Jetrer says:

    hip, hip

  162. Pat D says:

    Hip motherfucking hip!

  163. mike_h says:

    TOLD YOU

Jorge is a better hitter when he plays the field

    • MannyGeee says:

I said this in April and got shit on out here… so I see your small sample size and accept it if for no other reason to validate my earlier point.

      thank you and good day

  164. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

    Jorgie Juiced One!

No way I thought that was getting out. Jorge knew it off the bat though.

  165. Johnny O says:

Cano with two opposite field hits this game. And for his next trick, he’ll draw a 4 pitch walk.

  166. pat says:

OMFG. Such a short right porch what a joke Yankee Stadium is.

  167. MannyGeee says:

wow. who is this Jorge guy?

  168. Yank The Frank says:

    Jorge has taken a Leake.

  169. Rob says:

    he was mad due

  170. Kostas says:

Holy shit… Jorge with a HR …. finally.

  171. BigTimeBartolo says:

    HIP HIP

  172. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    Hip Hip

  173. dkidd says:

he’s giambi with a worse glove

  174. Xstar7 says:

Just got back from a snack break. Judging from the comments there’s been some massive ups and downs.

  175. jon says:

andrew jones is having too good of a time for how badly hes hitting

  176. Mister Delaware says:

What a joke Andruw Jones is. Why isn’t he in the dugout thinking about what kind of smile he’ll give after his next strikeout???

  177. Andruw Jones smiled while catching pitches from Freddy mid-inning, and then flipped the mitt to Cervelli?

DFA THIS BUM WHO HAS NO RESPECT FOR THE GAME

  178. Pat D says:

That’s why you don’t bunt, Jay.

  179. Greg says:

    DOUBLE PLAY

  180. Pat D says:

    Teh Gritster!!!!!!

  181. Mike Axisa says:

    Brett Gardner, everyday player.

  182. Jetrer says:

    gritty throw

  183. Cy Pettitte says:

BG is the man. Best 4th outfielder ever.

  184. mike_h says:

    Gardner FTW!!

  185. Karl Krawfid says:

Bad throw he didn’t hit him in the chest! That Gardner!

  186. the tenth inning stretch says:

    WOW. I’ll take it.

  187. Xstar7 says:

    Brett Gardner: Uber left fielder

  188. Yank The Frank says:

    Bruce is not The Boss.

  189. BklynJT says:

    Don’t sleep on Gardner’s big time D…

  190. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

What a GRITTY throw by BG

  191. Rob says:

andruw jones would have made that play if he didn’t roll his ankle the other day

  192. Brett Gardner uses momentum and accuracy to generate a premium arm without having dynamite raw arm strength. One of the “headiest” throwers in baseball.

    Well done, BG.

  193. jon says:

well at least he put the ball in play

  194. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

HOLY SHIT Cervelli put the ball in play

  195. Greg says:

    Run Freddy!

  196. Gardner plants one (serious theft of an underused nickname) says:

    I heart BG!!!

  197. Xstar7 says:

    Such a gritty pop-up

    Lackey beard = LOL

  199. Cy Pettitte says:

    Ramiro the zero

  200. Jetrer says:

    wtf pena

  201. Greg says:

    Pena does it again

    Brett Gardner, everyday player.

Just not worthy of continuing in the leadoff spot when Jeter returns…. Not a REAL Yankee.

  203. pat says:

    Through the wickets. OY

  204. Xstar7 says:

    Oh my god Ramiro……

  205. MannyGeee says:

holy shit, Pena is just a hot mess today.

  206. Karl Krawfid says:

Bye bye Pena, you scrub. Take Cervelli with you.

  207. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    Really Pena??

  208. Mike Axisa says:

    Alright, good rebound Ramiro.

  209. Greg says:

Makes up for it right there

  210. Xstar7 says:

Double plays are good at erasing mistakes

  211. mike_h says:

hoping Garcia can give us atleast 1.1 IP more

  212. Cy Pettitte says:

very nice, hopefully Freddy can go 8 and save the pen for tonight.

  213. tom says:

    Freddy’s opposition isn’t the Reds; it’s Pena.

OK, the DP eases the judgment a little. (Not that it was a tough play)

  214. MannyGeee says:

in 3 minutes Sterling has said ‘right through the rickets’ and Suzyn followed it up with ‘cool as a cucumber’…

what is this, the Great Depression?

  215. Cy Pettitte says:

why would you not let Freddy go 8? over managing 101

  216. Greg says:

If they score another run here, then Freddy comes back.

  217. Ivan says:

    Garcia for another inning right?

  218. mike_h says:

    Kay almost messed his pants

  219. the tenth inning stretch says:

Darn you Michael Key for making me think that ball was gone.

  220. Greg says:

Again for Joe it comes down to the lead. If we had a 3+ run lead then Freddy stays in.

  221. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

God damnit Kay got me excited

  222. Kostas says:

The beauty of Pena’s play today – 3 error – hat trick – and hbp. All in all, great game.

  223. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

Agreed with all the comments saying that Garcia should get the 8th.

Something tells me we’re gonna need Robertson tonight, with Gordon starting.

  224. Greg says:

Its the same with the Baltimore game. If we were ahead by 3 or 4 runs instead of just one, Joe keeps Colon in.

  225. Mike Axisa says:

What the hell, why is Robertson coming in?

  226. dave says:

So, if it’s the same score going into the 9th, does Mo pitch? Then who’s left for the night game? Garcia doesn’t even have 90 pitches

  227. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

Why don’t you let Freddy at least pitch until someone gets on? We’ll probably need DRob tonight.

  228. MannyGeee says:

listening to Sterling trying to make heads or tails of the double switch is like listening to Suzyn explain ‘networking’, and ‘wireless networks’ during a live read.

    wow those two are old

  229. Cy Pettitte says:

I’m gonna guess tonight would ideally be Gordon for 6, Noesi for 2, Wade to close.

  230. Karl Krawfid says:

Throw the curve and strike him out please.

  231. Cy Pettitte says:

    CANO

  232. Jetrer says:

    WOW, great play

  233. jon says:

posada is not making that catch

  234. Cano and Tex showing the young kids how it’s done.

  235. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

    Web gem!

  236. first time lawng time says:

Lol this game has been full of defensive extremes. We’ve seen shitty throws and great catches.

  237. Karl Krawfid says:

2 of the best, Cano and Phillips.

    What a treat.

  238. Xstar7 says:

Please don’t let this escalate Robertson.

  239. Karl Krawfid says:

    D-Rob! What!

  240. Cy Pettitte says:

    that was filthy.

  241. Yank The Frank says:

    DRob!!

  242. Greg says:

    Robertson is John Wetteland

  243. Xstar7 says:

    Robertson just overpowered Votto. Wow

  244. NHYankeesFan says:

When Kay said that Votto had 99 career homeruns I was sure he would hit his 100th. Thats how it always happens

  245. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    K-Rob

  246. Ivan says:

    Wow…D-Rob just abuse Votto there.

  247. MikeD says:

Joining late. Day games and work don’t mix for a good cocktail. I’m gathering Garcia pitched a solid game, or did he get lucky with a ton of hard-hit balls?

  248. Holy shit, Sam Elliott heard us talking about him and signed with the Reds in the past few hours!

  249. pat says:

    Drobb for 2?

  250. IRF says:

Wow. I’ve never seen a man whose facial hair so perfectly matched his name.

  251. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

You can’t predict baseball, except for one thing:

Every team without a facial hair policy is obligated by law to have at least one reliever with goofy facial hair.

  252. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

Eduardo Nunez? That guy’s got an edge.

    …wait, what?

  253. Greg says:

    Like it Nunez

  254. the tenth inning stretch says:

    Loving the aggressiveness from Nunez.

    • MikeD says:

He is agressive, but I think he’s now tied for the team lead in making outs on the bases, even though he doesn’t play that much.

Gotta get these outs on the bases under control.

      • the tenth inning stretch says:

        So frustrating.

      • Jetrer says:

that one doesn’t count in that stat because it was a pickoff/ CS
so Nunez is still behind Jeter and Swisher

        • MikeD says:

It counts. We know the truth. : -)

And, really, there were two outs if I remember correctly, all of four minutes ago. Where was he going?

I like Nunez and I want him to work out, but he makes it difficult at times!

          • Jetrer says:

there was one out, he was the second out, Pena the third
I was just saying it didn’t count in that particular stat, if you count CS and pickoffs, Gardner would lead in OOB by a mile

  255. IRF says:

Can someone please get Nunez a helmet that fits?

    • MannyGeee says:

he’s trying to drop the helmet in a way that the fielder will trip over it, like he’s playing a full size version of Mario Brothers?

  256. Nuney trying to fix our bad baserunning metrics. Well done, son.

  257. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

Is it just me or does Nunez’s helmet come off every time he runs at full speed?

    He’s like the anti-Peyton Manning

  258. Cy Pettitte says:

    Nunez you moron.

  259. Karl Krawfid says:

    I cry :(

  260. Greg says:

    And then he does that

  261. pat says:

    Lol Nunez. I love it.

  262. Ivan says:

    Ugh….

  263. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

Our obligatory baserunning mistake of the day…

  264. lily says:

of course he gets picked off

  265. Yank The Frank says:

    Gotta go to MO.

  266. Xstar7 says:

    Finish them Mariano

  267. tom says:

No Yankee game is complete without something bonehead on the bases.

  268. first time lawng time says:

Lol Nuñez channeling his inner Posada.

  269. jdp says:

Nunez and Pena are making Jeter look better every day.

  270. Kostas says:

Clearly Girardi does not know how to manage. A lefty batter and Boone Logan is not in. Failure.

  271. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

Anyone here ever been to Great American Ballpark?

It looks pretty freaking nice on TV

  272. Xstar7 says:

Mariano just made Jay Bruce look silly.

  273. swishers fauxhawk says:

    Jay Bruce is now #aware.

  274. the tenth inning stretch says:

    Pena!

  275. Greg says:

    There we go Pena

  276. jon says:

    that a boy

  277. MikeD says:

WTF Pena made three errors today? What’s going on out there.

  278. Karl Krawfid says:

Pena says, I make em when they count.

  279. Yank The Frank says:

Ramiro made up some on that one.

  280. Jetrer says:

    Pena just doesn’t like Freddy

  281. Xstar7 says:

Who are you and what have you done with Ramiro Pena?

  282. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

    Nice pick, better throw.

Slinging that bad boy across the diamond off your back foot is waayyy harder than it looks.

  283. tom says:

    All is forgiven, Ramiro.

    Signed, Ridiculously Fickle Fan

  284. King George says:

    Pena with redemption

  285. MannyGeee says:

Pena is the most confusing baseball player in the league. 3 errors and then follows it up with big time plays.

  286. Pat D says:

Pena’s defense has proven that You Can’t Predict Baseball.

And congrats to bex and the other gals at YCPB for joining ESPN’s SweetSpot Network!

  287. mike_h says:

    ball game, Yankees WIN!!!!!

  288. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

Uhhh I think Cervelli is pumped.

    BALLGAME OVER! YANKEES WIN!

  289. Kostas says:

So with Mo closing does that mean Robertson is the closer for the night game?

  290. Ivan says:

    Nice!!!!

  291. Hall and Nokes says:

Cervelli is still our best fist pumper, no matter what else you think of him (well, besides CC).

  292. Freddy Garcia's 86 mph Heat says:

    2-0 with the C lineup.

  293. Xstar7 says:

Nice win. Let’s do it again in a few hours.

  294. MikeD says:

I only saw the last two innings, but good win. Best news is I can still get my baseball fix for the day with the game tonight.

  295. David, Jr. says:

Don’t know how they managed to win again without their leadoff hitter, Jetes. None of his three-run homers. None of his spectacular fielding plays. Still, they prevailed!

  296. first time lawng time says:

Will Rivera be available for tonight’s game? What about Drob?

  297. Greg says:

    Intersting stat from Olney

Combined Garcia and Colon: 157.1 IP, 3.20 ERA

  298. Xstar7 says:

posted this just to change the comments total so it’s not 666
