Game 77: Could of had

By

There was a point in time this winter when the Yankees could have of had Zack Greinke, or at least it appeared that way. The righty met with Brian Cashman during the winter meetings to try to convince him he wanted to be a Yankee, but the GM voted against it and off to Milwaukee he went. Now they’ve got Freddy Garcia instead, who will face Greinke tonight. Sweaty Freddy has gotten the job done at a low cost, but he certainly doesn’t strike fear in opponents. It’ll be a while before we know if passing on the 2009 AL Cy Young Award winner was a smart move, but what’s done is done. Here’s the starting nine…

Brett Gardner, LF
Curtis Granderson, CF
Mark Teixeira, 1B
Alex Rodriguez, 3B
Robinson Cano, 2B
Nick Swisher, RF
Jorge Posada, DH
Russell Martin, C
Eduardo Nunez, SS

Freddy Garcia, SP

Tonight’s game is scheduled to start a little after 7pm ET and can be seen on YES locally or MLB Network nationally. Enjoy.

You had it right the first time, Mike. “Could have had” Yes, I had to be that guy…

      It’s an inside joke.

        joke

Weird, I thought this word implied there was some sort of humor involved……. *shrugs*

        • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside the Elder

Eh, you might not have found me funny, but others did.

          • radnom

You? I was under the impression this was referencing a post by one of the weekend writers (forget who exactly).

            • Esteban

Yes, and I still think it’s funny.

            • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside the Elder

Sorry, that was a typo (I’m multitasking).

Meant to say “you might not have found me IT funny, but others did.”

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

[insert comment about how Grenkie can't handle NY here]

    • King George

      He would crumble under pressure.

      #satisfies request

  • Pat D

OMG, Mike. You didn’t make the couldn’t handle New York joke.

And you had to say “could of had.”

As Blue Laser Commander would say, “I just hate you so much!!”

  • Jimmy McNulty

Is it too pessimistic to say that Fielder will go deep at least once in this series? Dude’s got some serious stroke.

    • Pat D

Is it too pessimistic to say he’ll go deep multiple times?

    • http://www.twitter.com/matt__harris Matt :: Sec110

I Just hope the visiting clubhouse manager got extra post game spread, Fielder can mow at the dinner table…no way is he still a vegetarian.

    • http://www.youcantpredictbaseball.com bexarama

Nah, Fielder is like… really good. It’s not like you said Yuniesky would hit a HR. (He probably will.)

      • Jimmy McNulty

Friendly park to LHH and Freddy Garcia and AJ Burnett pitching. Hell, he’ll probably hit more than one actually.

        • Yanks27rings

Exactly what I said. I’m predicting at least twice in the series, but possibly more. Hopefully they’ll be solo shots and the offense will be able to fight over ‘em.

And lol’d at “could of had.”

      • Pat D

If Yuny hits one, you realize I’m holding you personally responsible.

  • Zack D

i read that post, and i really didn’t find it funny. i really try to be fair with the weekend writers and some of their posts are genuinely good, but i’m getting sick of being insulted constantly with sarcastic posts about how terrible we are as fans.

        • Jimmy McNulty

My favorite blog post ever was written by a weekend writer, I think it was Steve H when he was still writing for the blog? It was about the bias that writers have towards moves made by certain GMs. In fact, I am pretty sure it was Steve H because it was about a move that his Celtics made in dealing Kendrick Perkins to the Thunder.

          • Official Member of the Bartolo Colon Fan Club

oh, i loved steve h. i’m not biased towards weekend writers in general, or anyone at all.

i just don’t like reading articles that insult people for caring about their team and being fans.

            • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside the Elder

That article didn’t insult people for caring about the team and being fans.

It insulted people for being insanely irrational and not judging the actions of their team against a fair and reasonable standard.

It didn’t insult fans for being fans, it insulted dumb fans for being dumb fans. If you felt insulted by that, it is what it is.

          • Official Member of the Bartolo Colon Fan Club

no, i meant that i just read it. as in like five minutes ago

        • http://twitter.com/stephen_mr Stephen R.

Well, just so we’re clear – I’ve written one “sarcastic” post (i like to call it satire), and it wasn’t to insult fans. Whether it achieved its intended comedic purpose is debatable, but i haven’t dabbled in satire again since. I’m all dry analysis babbbby, nothing but analysis.

  • Ted Nelson

*Could of/have had Greinke and not had Jesus, Manny/Dellin, etc.

The Brewers got a recent #12 BA prospect at a premium position, the BA #69 prospect in starting P Jacob Odorizzi, a strong relief prospect in Jeffress, and a solid young corner OF in Cain from the Brewers.

    • Jimmy McNulty

They also got one of the few short stops that can’t out hit Eduardo Nuñez. C’mon Ted, last night you were bashing all of BA’s analysis on draft prospects and now you cite one their rankings (that was clearly overly optimistic) in favor your argument? You’re better than that.

  • Zack D

Man I wish Girardi would talk about Arod/Tex moving to the OF for a game, just to see the backlash.

  • Jimmy McNulty

I was talking to my idiot friend Matt about the ASG, and I’m convinced that Mark Teixeira is a better player than Adrian Gonzalez. Mark Teixeira has a .247/358/.538 line good for a .388 wOBA, yet a .228 BABIP. Adrian Gonzalez has a line of .361/.415/.611 good for a .438 wOBA yet a wopping .397 BABIP. I know Teixeira is a heavy pull hitter that gets an enormous shift played against him, but that doesn’t explain the staggering difference in BABIP. Career they’re .298 and .318 respectively, the main difference is that Gonzalez is just murdering RHP. I’d suspect by the end of the year that they’ll have awfully similar lines.

    • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

      Marco Scutaro, Red Sox: 1,099,744

That should tell you everything you need to know about most of the All star fan voters.

      • Pat D

And Mitch Moreland is ahead of Paul Konerko.

      • Jimmy McNulty

Meh. It’s an exhibition game, let the fans vote in the players they want to see play. I think they should do a Sophomore game or something to help showcase the younger players in the league on a national stage.

        • Pat D

          Like the NBA?

You can have something like that or you can have the Futures Game.

          • Jimmy McNulty

Why not both? Or like a prospects v. rookies/sophomores game.

            • Pat D

Why not both? Because they also bother with the Celebrity Game and the Home Run Waste of Time, so where are they fitting this in?

They also probably don’t want to use ML pitchers in another exhibition game on Monday. It’ll be the same thing as when they don’t let guys who pitch Sunday then pitch in the ASG.

              • Jimmy McNulty

There’s the pitching thing…but as far as the time thing goes, make it a whole week? Give the players some time off and teams with injuries a chance to heal.

                • Pat D

Don’t see it happening anytime soon.

  • http://bigleaguewiffleball.com/ Jon

Greinke is a solid pitcher and the Yanks should have gone after him.

    • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

I think the Yankees should of gone after him too.

      • Pat D

I’ll be insane by the end of the night, I can tell.

  • Greg

I heard Matt Garza as a possible trade target. Any thoughts?

    • Pat D

I’ve said before that his power comes from his chin pubes, and he wouldn’t be able to have them with the Yankees, so pass.

He’s also already been proven to be a lousy teammate.

    • Yanks27rings

Should of traded for Garza. Who needs Montero when you can get a guy who threw a no-hitter?!

      /kidding, of course

  • IRF

John Flaherty is the only human being on earth who could take the funny out of Bob Uecker.

    Well, him and Principal Skinner.

    • Ivan

He fucked up the joke where Uecker says “Juuuuuust a little bit outside”?

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

I wonder if Flaharty would still be in the YES booth if he didn’t hit that walkoff vs Boston in 2004.

    • Pat D

The newspapers like him and they “stole” him away from the Mets.

I think the latter point has more to do with it.

  • Cy Pettitte

I hope to see some craziness from Nyjer Morgan this series. He’s always good for a dose of crazy righteous indignation.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

I don’t think Yankee fans are too excited about seeing Ryan Braun hit against the Yankees, Michael

  • Dave

Doesn’t Greinke have a 4.77 ERA in the NL?

    • Guest

Yeah, but his peripherals are ridiculously good. He’s been laughably unlucky with his opponent’s BABIP and his strand rate. That number should come way down as his luck evens out.

    • Pat D

Yea but with a 2.30 FIP and 1.84 xFIP.

I guess the Brewers’ defense is just that shitty.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why Greinke’s ERA is so pathetic.

  • IRF

  • #24!!!!

So the Brewer’s defense is really crappy!

  • Esteban

    Womp Womp. FAIL

  • Stratman9652

C’mon Morgan! Throw your glove away and have a hissy fit next time would ya!

  • Esteban

So Greinke couldn’t handle NY after all.

    /The inevitable narrative.

  • James A

Guess Greinke’s luck isn’t turning around today
Btw it will be a beautiful day when an announcer talks about FIP when analyzing someone’s ERA (I know cone did it, I guess when it’s the norm is what I mean)

    • #24!!!!

I totally agree. They’re basically saying “Greinke sucks b/c his ERA is high,” meanwhile that’s NOT the case at all

  • jon

    look at greinke implode

    already gave up 2 runs

  • Esteban

Hey, who saw that awful ‘sabremetrics’ ruin sports article on Grantland today?

    • http://twitter.com/Bismarck1872 Jerome S.

      I did.

      Simply atrocious.

    • Pat D

      Link?

    • James A

I read it, it wasn’t very good, although the stats mentioned were mostly basketball stats, where admittedly its harder to break down the game statistically the way it is in baseball. I think the NBA is moving in a good direction with the stats, and some teams are going to (and already have) gain(ed) a huge edge, but I will never fully embrace the basketball’s sabermetrics like I do baseball’s

      • James A

And yes I know the Aaron Rowand part was in there, so it wasn’t all hoops

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Where the fuck was Weeks playing?

  • James A

    Shift fail

  • http://twitter.com/Bismarck1872 Jerome S.

    Wow. Just… wow.

I honestly feel bad for Greinke. We should have gone after him, we’d be in the second inning by now.

    Greinke is cursed.

  • Stratman9652

And I was tempted to use Greinke for pick six. Dodged that bullet.

  • jon

UPDATE, 7:21 p.m.: I’ll say this much for Nyjer Morgan: That ball off Ramiro Pena’s chest followed by the throw into the dirt by Eduardo Nunez is still the worst play I’ve ever seen in professional baseball. Morgan’s stumble might be second, but that Pena/Nunez play was kind of hilarious. Anyway, it’s 2-0 Yankees in the first.

    • jon

no hit the red sox, not a perfect game, only because he hit 4 of them in the face

That would actually make them look better.

    • http://twitter.com/Bismarck1872 Jerome S.

Can someone explain to me why Francona keeps batting McDonald 5th? He has a -25 wRC+. I know it is partly because they don’t have Ortiz in the NL park, but wouldn’t you bat Varitek, Scutaro, or pretty much any living baseball player before batting McDonald 5th?

I would much rather see Becket batting fifth than McDonald.

  • Jonathan Harker

Just unforced error after unforced error by Greinke. So glad we didn’t try to get this nutcase.

    • Esteban

Um, what? Joke? Below comment makes me think no.

  • Ivan

If Greinke was so intimitated by NY, then why did he go to Cashman to actually pitch here uh?

Two bad innings. Yup. That’s all the information we need.

If you think one bad night against us tonight means that “he can’t handle New York”…well…*sighs in exasperation*

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside the Elder

Oh, I wasn’t trying to imply that the Yanks haven’t been hitting good pitchers hard. They have.

          Absolutely, baby.

  • Cy Pettitte

too bad Mitre was DFA’d, would have been funny to see him for 4 or 5 innings

  • first time lawng time

If there are news articles saying Greinke can’t handle NY, that’s why he pitched poorly, then, I’m sorry, but that lacks serious critical thinking.

He’s not pitching poorly because he can’t handle NY; he’s pitching poorly because he facing the best offense in the MLB in a hitter friendly stadium. In no way is this indicative of how he would perform if he were a Yankee. Why? Because if he were a Yankee, HE WOULDN’T BE PITCHING AGAINST GRANDERSON, AROD, CANO, ETC. HELLO!!??

Now, one could make the argument that his anxiety would hinder his performance as a Yankee because of the media and attention. That’s legit. But using tonight’s game as a basis for that lacks logic an reasoning.

    • It’sATarp

No we should judge pitcher based on one Game of data…(ignoring off course his shitty defense behind him)

    • sangreal

There was certainly a contingent here looking forward to declaring him fit-for-NY based on this one game earlier.

      • Guest

But that wouldn’t have been based on one game.

Zack greinke has a track record of being an elite pitcher. That’s why people would think he’s fit for NY.

You know what, after getting his @ss handed to him, guess what? He’s not only fit for NY, he’s fit to be NY’s ace “1B”

        How ’bout THEM apples?

      • It’sATarp

off course it can’t be that people like the fact he’s a cy young winner and he’s striking out about 12 per 9 and walking about 1 per 9…which is closer to his true talent than this one game represents…just sayin

I think that says more about the other team, frankly.

see: Braden, Dallas (aka Grandma’s boy)

          • first time lawng time

Braden is a creep. He acts like he is this big shot, even though he obviously isn’t.

Oooooh Arod just ran across my mound so I’m gonna throw a temper tantrum to get attention ooooh. I’m sooooo tough. And since the media loves to hate Arod I’m going to win. And then I’m gonna go cry to my Grandma because I have no real friends cus I’m kinda ugly and I don’t have that great of a body and my teammates hate me cus I’m a shit pitcher (except for that on time I threw a perfect game on Mother’s Day which was actually legit and I should get credit or that). And then afte I throw my perfct game in going to have my grandma tell Arod to stick it because having old women stick up for me is cool and all and makes me look tough. Oh yeah, I’m also going to be a flake and let my grandma step on the mound, even though I will explicitly say I will never allow such a catastrophe to occur. And then in July I’m going to send Arod a fruit basket because I think I’m funny. And then no one will ever hear of me again because I’m washed up has been (not that I was anything in th first place but still).

And that was Braden’s thought process when Cano hit that fateful foul ball).

It’s funny though, because of Cano didn’t swing the bat, this never would have happened. And that is why he should take balls.

THe fact that we stole bases should be taken as a sign of respect for the Breweres offense. “We believe that you can come back from a seven run deficet so we are trying to score more runs”

Another thing. I hate “pitching to the score” Its like playing the prevent defense.

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside the Elder

Seriously, I never got that. What’s more disrespectful, running up the score, or intentionally trying NOT to score out of pity for the haplessness of your opponent?

Shouldn’t I be more offended that you think so little of me that you’re giving up on playing hard before the game is over, because you doubt my ability to possibly make a comeback?

    • Monteroisdinero

Agree. The prevent defense “prevents” you from winning.

    • first time lawng time

Pitching to the score is weak.

On my team, my players would score 10+ runs a game, and we wouldn’t have mopup guys come in. My pitchers would deal and go for the no hitter. No mercy. I wouldn’t lift my superstar players for pinch running scrubs. They’d stay in and swing for the fences every time. And then my skinny guys would continue to steal. And then Mo would come in for the 9th every single time. And it would not affect him physically.

      Why? Because he’s a man. That’s why.

I don’t think it’s entirely a foregone conclusion that he leaves. The Mets may keep him, see how close they can go with him, and ultimately bite the bullet and overspend to keep him.

I agree. Paradoxically, I also think they don’t have enough money to NOT pay him, if you get what I’m saying.

The Mets need Reyes. They need to invest in their product (and have that investment pay dividends for a change).

I laughed, but that’s not exactly the same scenario.

Of course, if the Mets could pull a Wall Street and hack into the league office databases and make Johan Santana’s 23M salary look like a 2.3M salary, so he’s given an AAA rating, and then trade him for Carlos Santana straight up, more power to them.

You’re right that this is all possible. But that they would have to jettison a very good young player in order to do so is still pretty amazing.

This is NYC. What you are proposing sounds like machinations the Twins/Rays/A’s would think about going through to keep great young players. Not something you would expect the Mets to have to deal with.

  • Mojo

For anyone with the slightest inkling of insight into the upcoming offseason: Because he’s been a personal favorite for the past few years, is there any chance whatsoever that the Yankees pursue Prince? His daddy played in pinstripes, so does that influence his decision in any way? I would love NOTHING more than to see the Prince as our everyday DH. I don’t know if he’d okay the off-the-field switch, but I’m already drooling over the mere idea of seeing him don the New York uniform every game of the season. Give him A-Rod money. I honestly wouldn’t care. He’d quickly become a fan favorite and I’ve got a sneaking suspicion that he would really shine in the Bronx. Here’s hoping . . .

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside the Elder

      No room for him.

      • Mojo

With Posada gone? Screw the swinging door DH. This is Prince Fielder.

        • http://twitter.com/#!/DiscGolfHero the tenth inning stretch

With Posada gone? Montero will be up, and assuming Martin stays healthy, he’ll still be catching.

        • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside the Elder

          Hey-Zeus.

        • Mojo

Initially I was sold on Martin, but . . . I’m having my doubts. Would it honestly be THAT bad if they slotted Montero into the everyday lineup as the catcher?

          • Greg

His defense makes up for his offnesive shortcomings.

            • Mojo

Perhaps I’ve been spoiled by an offensive force at catcher for over a decade, but I expect the Yankees backstop to be able to hit . . . I don’t, on the other hand, expect them to throw out baserunners and block 50 footers. I rather see Prince DH and Jesus Catch than Martin stick around for another year. Nothing against Martin, nothing at all. I REALLY do like the guy, he’s a genuine class act, but I want me a double dose of Second Coming in the lineup next year.

              • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside the Elder

You have to think of future flexibility as well, though.

Tex is a 1B/DH. Prince is a 1B/DH. ARod is a 3B, but he might end up being a 1B/DH as he approaches 40. All three of those players on long-term contracts is probably a bad idea, we might easily end up with three players for two positions and have to live with shit like Hideki Matsui and Johnny Damon in the outfield.

Even if you want to play Montero at catcher only and not at DH, I’d be in favor of signing some other DH not named Prince who won’t command a 6-8 year contract. I want the flexibility to dump my incumbent DH (or move him to a defensive position) in case ARod’s hip blows out again.

                • Mojo

I know it’s not exactly the BEST strategy, but whatever happened to winning NOW, you know? It’s not like Prince is some aging slouch (I’m not concerned about his weight). Imagine a lineup where Prince bats 5th (Cano 3rd and Teixera 6th) and Montero 8th . . . Even with Jeter batting 9th (Still yuck) that would be SOME kind of Murderer’s Row. Let ARod age, move Tex to third if necessary and slot Prince back at first base. I just wouldn’t let speculation or fraught interrupt what could (and hopefully) WILL be the league’s best lineup, hands down.

                  • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside the Elder

It might feel like the Yanks have unlimited resources, but they don’t. The Yankees already have a ton of power hitters who don’t play premium defensive positions. And if Montero can’t stick at catcher, they have another on the way.

Plus, a bunch of premium free agent starting pitchers are likely to hit the market in 2013. The Yankees have a bigger need there. Save the money for one of them.

      • Mojo

Argh, reasonable enough. I just want nothing more than Prince to be a Yankee. I guess I have this expectation that the Yankees might ACTUALLY develop a starting pitcher within the next couple of years. Fingers crossed.

    GO NUNEZ!

    • Esteban

Good to see you showed up.

  • TheLastClown

T-minus .2 IP until CLee CGSO.

    • sangreal

3 consecutive shutouts. First for a Philies starter since 1950

      • Pat D

        Robin Roberts?

“Three Finger” Mordecai Brown told Robin Roberts that Walter Johnson feared Babe Ruth…

        • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

The great Babe Ruth….was riding on a train……little boy sees the Babe…he goes up to his mother and says “Mommy…..that man….Is tall.”

  • Pat D

Swisher has been playing aggressive defense tonight.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

So Lee just 2hit SHO’d the Sox. Almost as good.

  • Greg

Cliff Lee just went game 1 09 series on the Red Sox. Not only in the result but the manner in which it was done.

  • Guest

Lee and Halladay back to back CGSO.

They are scary good. If Hamels is hot in the playoffs (which barring something completely unforeseen, they will make)…um…this whole season thing might be a bit moot.

    • Pat D

      Stranger things have happened.

    • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

Just like the Phillies dominated the playoffs last year?

      YCPB

    • Foghorn Leghorn

Lee Harvey Oswalt may be gone for the season….

    • Sheepmeister

of course, another injury to one of those 3, and another who is human (6-7IP and 3-4 ER), they could be completely beatable.

    • Guest

OK, I just looked up their numbers. Sweet mother of all that is holy:

IP H ER HR BB SO K/9 WHIP ERA
      Halladay 127.1 115 34 7 16 123 8.69 1.03 2.40
      Hamels 112.0 86 31 6 21 108 8.68 0.96 2.49
      Lee 122.0 103 36 8 27 119 8.78 1.07 2.66

And that’s BEFORE Lee’s ridiculous performance tonight.

      Amazing.

  • Foghorn Leghorn

boy…Cliff Lee just bitched slapped the Sox…

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

Noesi just can’t put these hitters away.

    • Greg

      Thanks for the encouragement.

    • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

And as I post this comment Ricky Weeks strikes out.

  • Pat D

    Rays walked off.

    • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

Evan Longoria is good at baseball

      • Foghorn Leghorn

        i have his cap.

        • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

He’s going to hunt you down.

          • Pat D

I’d just ask him questions about his sister.

  • Cy Pettitte

    dammit Longoria

  • Esteban

Do you think there are Red Sox fans saying “Damnit the Red Sx should have buried the Yankees when they had the chance?”

O god, why are the Boston sucks chants at Yankees Stadium?

    • Pat D

      Cuz it’s fun?

      • Esteban

I heard the chants during this game. Being obsessed with teams you’re not currently playing is for the weak.

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside the Elder

Do you think there are Red Sox fans saying “Damnit the Red Sx should have buried the Yankees when they had the chance?”

Yes. Frankly, I’m sure of it.

      • Pat D

Isn’t there a term for that on this site? I think it might be a proper name?

      • Esteban

Yeah, it was more a rhetorical question showing the fallacy of that mindset.

  • David, Jr.

Again, almost impossible to survive without the Cap’n. Gardner, Granderson and Nunez only have five runs scored, four walks and four stolen bases. The opposing teams should give the Yankees therapy ideas so Jetes gets back at the top of the lineup faster.

    • TheLastClown

Draw him up a stem cell bath.

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

I really think that Cliff Lee is the best pitcher in baseball. Having that much movement combined with pinpoint control is just plain unfair.

    • Greg

I still think its the Doc.

      • AaronGuielWithASmile

You can make a very strong case for Halladay, no doubt.

But I’m still going with Lee.

        • Foghorn Leghorn

a strong case for halladay? whatever…roy is the best and Lee is right behind him.

        • Guest

Don’t sleep on Hamels either. If I had to choose only one of them going forward, I’d choose Hamels. Almost as good (which is incredible in and of itself) and he’s considerably younger than both of them.

    • Guest

Until tonight, he was their third best pitcher. *Shakes head in awe*

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

Wow I can’t believe the Brewers have no errors.

    • Pat D

Proof that errors don’t tell you the whole story.

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

Holy crap, Latroy Hawkins has an 0.46 ERA?

    4 walks in 20 innings??

    Really???

    • Pat D

      National League sucks.

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

Kay and Flaherty should not be allowed to spend more than 3 hours together.

    This is too uncomfortable.

    • TheLastClown

Al Leiter accompaniment should be mandatory.

  • Pat D

Uh oh. Brett is 3 for his last 23.

Now where’s whoever it was that thinks this means I’m saying Brett is a fourth outfielder??

    • Esteban

Greg, where are you? Gardner’s batting under .290

      • Pat D

        No, it wasn’t Greg.

    • Greg

He has to go to .250-.260 to get me on his case again.

      • Esteban

        But he’s not being consistent!

        • Greg

I do allow for mini slumps. I’m not Mussolini.

          • Esteban

That’s too bad. I wanted the trains to run on time.

          • Mojo

Is Cano in a mini-slump? Seems like he hasn’t hit in a while, or maybe I’m just piling his entire year into a single week

      • TheLastClown

C’mon dude. You know it begins @ .279

  • Dino Velvet

the offensive looks so much better without jeter.

  • Mister Delaware

How’s it going, guys? I just went to a food festival, but I had diarrhea. Really kills the concept, huh?

(Love that Swish homered. Looking forward to that .200 isoP.)

    • TheLastClown

Nothing compared to your .325 IsoP(oop)

      sorry

      • Mister Delaware

I will very absolutely be adding “isoPoop” to my lexicon.

        • TheLastClown

          Glad to be ‘ve service.

    • Pat D

      /CHoP’ed

  • Monteroisdinero

Greg Smith with a poor outing for Scranton tonight. Too bad.

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

Seriously, Kay and Flash together is the most awkward thing since Kay and Justice.

    • Mister Delaware

Which was the most awkward since Justice and Berry.

    • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

It really is. Where the fuck is Al Leiter?

  • Rob

I think mo can grow a full beard over the course of a game

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

Note to Milwaukee: that’s why you don’t walk Ramiro Pena when you’re down 9 runs in the 8th.

    • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

Note to Milwaukee: that’s why you don’t walk Ramiro Pena when you’re down 9 runs in the 8th.

      Fixed

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

    Heh, Craig Counsell.

    • Esteban

      Still hate him.

      • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

I hate every member of that 2001 Diamondbacks team.

        • Zack

          Me too.

  • Mister Delaware

Put it on the left side, m-fuckers.

  • Esteban

    Solid win.

  • TheLastClown

Have all the games this year, this is one’ve my favorites.

    • Guest

      ICWUDT.

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

    Well, it was a battle.

    • TheLastClown

      I feel terrible for Grienke.

      • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

The guy had 0 luck today. I expect to see a myriad of articles about how “he couldn’t handle pitching in New York” and all that horseshit.

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

Cory Wade is clutch. Playing fireman in the bottom of the 9th. Close game.

    • Mister Delaware

Can we start calling him Co-Wa? I feel like a fanbase needs to embrace and nickname its middle men.
