David Robertson, All-Star (UPDATE: Sabathia too)
ByMichael Kay just announced during this afternoon’s broadcast that David Robertson has been named to the All-Star Game as a replacement for David Price, who apparently withdrew. Awesome, congrats David.
Update: CC Sabathia was also named to the All-Star Team as a replacement for Jamie Shields, though he can’t pitch in the game because he’s starting today. Alexi Ogando has taken Sabathia’s spot. Good job of watering down the value of being an All-Star, MLB.

IIRC, if you pitch Saturday you’re also disqualified from the ASG.

Awesome. He’s only the most valuable reliever in the AL (granted, the most valuable reliever in baseball, by a lot, isn’t going). ‘Grats, D-Rob.
Now to await the outrage from David Price not going that came up from Jeter, Mo, and A-Rod not going…………

I still think Jeter and Mo should go. ARod has an excuse if he decides to get the surgery now.
I really don’t understand Venters getting the nod over Kimbrel. All star games are based mainly on popularity and/or conventional stats. You’d think Kimbrel and his 28 saves would get in before Venters. It’s even worse when you look at K/9 (13.7 vs 9.6) and FIP (1.43 vs 2.36).
Being a lefty helps.
Venters is ridiculous too, I totally understand him getting in. Plus he’s a lefty so managers might want that for the whole THIS TIME IT COUNTZ! thing (lol). I just don’t understand Kimbrel not getting in… I guess around the time original All-Stars were announced he kind of had a highish ERA IIRC, but he’s so nasty and yeah, he had a ton of saves too. Don’t get it it.

Yea, I think the ASG selection process is quite humorous right now, but I don’t mind them naming CC as an All-Star.
The asg is just a popularity contest I don’t have a problem with that its for the fans we put who we want on the field if a guy is hitting 200 and we wanna see him there then so be it
No, I basically mean how replacements are determined.
If a guy picked by the players withdraws, they take the next highest guy on the players’ ballot. If a guy picked by the manager withdraws, they take whoever the manager wants. If the guy picked by the final vote withdraws, they take the next guy on that vote. And if a guy voted by the fans withdraws, they take whoever the manager feels like taking.
It’s just convoluted.
That’s great. CC and DRob are deserving. Although I’m slightly disturbed that Alexi Ogando replaces CC…

But to be fair, Ogando’s only had 4 starts where he’s allowed more than 3 runs, and 2 of them were against the Yankees.

After today’s start they had to name CC, right? Also, Bartolo’s able to pitch the ASG and he’s been pretty damn good. Since like 80% of the AL’s best pitchers can’t go why not let him go?
